Let me start off by saying champps is more of a 3.5 for me. Their food is fairly tasty (but nothing spectacular) and service can be a miss but has usually been good. I've tried their nachos, chicken Alfredo, tuna tacos, chicken wings, and spinach-chicken flatbread (and probably some more I'm forgetting about) over the past couple of years. My favorite would be their chicken-spinach flatbread. It had such good flavor! Their wings are pretty yummy but rather greasy. The tuna tacos aren't bad- a decent "healthy" alternative. I'd say their chicken Alfredo is really heavy-warning, you might not feel so hot after your meal. Oh my go-to side choice is their sweet potato waffle fries! They have a wide-selection of drinks and plenty of tvs if you want to have a laid-back night watching a game with your friends. A solid sports bar with plenty of seats-perfect for casual get togethers with groups!

A friend and I decided to go to Champps after seeing Cheesecake Factory was a madhouse at 5:15 on a Saturday. Champps was pretty empty which just made me chuckle--it shows just how dominant Cheesecake Factory is. We were promptly seated and showed the specials, some of which looked good, others did not. I ordered the bourbon salmon and my friend a club sandwich with a side salad. Our waiter forgot who wanted lemon in the water, so he brought lemons on a side plate (I mention this because the service was just downright awful). The food came out pretty quickly and my salmon and mashed potatoes were both excellent. The asparagus wasn't bad, either. They had to bring my friend an alternate dressing which our waiter eventually got confused about. After we finished, our waiter slowly came and we asked for checks. A bit of time passed and the checks finally came--except the waiter forgot if we wanted separate checks (yes, as we had said). Thankfully he had them (guessed right) and the ordeal was finally done. The food wasn't bad, but the service was just awful. Slow and forgetful. No reason to come back--there are better options nearby (looking at you, Cheesecake Factory).

Food was good but service was slow. Great TVs and atmosphere. Cost high for what you get.

I can't say I've had an issue here. Every time I order my food is great. The music is really nice as well, and the place has a decent vibe. My food always comes out relatively fast and the prices aren't bad.

Well, you could do worse than Champps when choosing a sports bar...but you could also do much better (especially in the Triangle area). On the plus side, the space is very large and thus can accommodate sizable parties and busy days. Also, there are approximately 527 televisions (the appropriate number for a sports bar) of varying sizes, and the hostess usually tries to comply with your team allegiance when seating you should numerous games be going on at once. The service is passable. You definitely won't get tired of seeing your server, but may get tired of waiting when you decide it's time to get your check. The menu fare is mostly typical for a sports bar with burgers, sandwiches, big salads and numerous appetizers. However, they also offer up such exotic items as steaks, tacos, pasta, and fish and chips. I love me a hot pretzel and they have a "mega pretzel" here which is indeed huge and will set you back a mega $10. That price tends to seem more reasonable the more beers I've consumed... As for the beers, there is a decent (though far from great) draft selection. Be sure to ask for an actual draft list, however, rather than go by your waiter's or waitress's recollection of what brews they may have. The last time I was here, our waitress was able to recite a total of three of the beers (though wasn't completely sure on one of them) and also thought an Oktoberfest was a cider. I guess that's an honest mistake. They do tend to have good beer specials, and solid drink specials overall. As for those other drinks, they do have a full bar and seem to specialize in the margarita arena. All in all, Champps is probably best suited as a spot to grab a bite and/or a drink while catching part of a game either pre- or post-Southpoint Mall adventures.

I had a rough day at work. My husband and I were heading to Southpoint and I wanted a really good dinner. We headed in to Champp's. We were seated immediately and our waitress was prompt, on spot, and courteous. I had a Rum Punch for starters and it was delicious. My cheeseburger and fries were delicious. I gave it 4 out of 5 because my husband asked for extra crispy bacon on his grilled cheese and sent the sandwich back when it was not. The waitress handled it well. We had an amazing cookie and ice cream dessert to finish off the meal. I was pleased.

Offensively overpriced for terrible food. A vegetarian in our party had a piece of chicken included in her vegetarian dish. When brought to the server's attention, his nonchalant response: "oh, it's not supposed to have chicken...must've fallen on it accidentally..." Needless to say, we will not be returning. The only appeal was the late hours, but the calling their fare "food" would be highly generous. A late night fast food option would be preferable to this establishment.

I met two friends for a late lunch. I was surprised to see that their menu had changed since the last time I was there. When I think of champps I think of burgers and was pretty sure that's what I'd end up with. I made a very last minute decision and I ordered the seaside shrimp and pasta-lunch portion as it's what my friend ordered too. I ordered a blue moon and upon it's arrival, our server asked if I wanted an orange to which I replied, yes. The orange never arrived. Once our food order was placed, not once but twice someone else's food was brought to our table. The confusion among the servers was surprising and not in a good way. Once our food arrived, I must say that it was nice portion of pasta with garlic bread. The flavor of the pasta was amazing! I'm glad that I gave pasta a chance at what I had deemed a burger bar! Props on the food!

Terrible food. We went to southpoint on a sunday and the restaurant was empty. I should have seen that as a warning sign. But it was too late to change my mind and leave as we were already inside. Anyway, ended up ordering mac n cheese from the kids menu. We were not given a free sundae or side as mentioned in the menu but there was a bigger issue. The mac n cheese had a weird stale smell. The other dishes we ordered were the chicken wrap and alfredo pasta which were pretty average. Will avoid this place in future!

Missed a Yelp movie screening when the theater was filled just a few people ahead of us so my friend and I decided to stroll over to Champps. It was Trivia night and my love-hate relationship with useless information was tested once again. I ordered a cookie and 30 or so trivia questions later became the owner of a super-sized gray tee shirt with the words "Wing Man" emblazoned on the front. I'm sure my hubby will be thrilled to see me wearing that as a nightshirt. Ha. Back to the cookie. It was a humongous chocolate chip cookie covered with two heaping scoops of vanilla ice cream, a generous serving of whipped cream, chocolate syrup, caramel drizzle, and a cherry on top. Overall, the service was fine, the cookie was fattening (and yes, delicious), trivia was bearable (hopefully, someday, somebody in a thrift store will be happy to find a super-sized gray "Wing Man" tee shirt), and it was a pleasant experience.

I tried their Carolina Burger, and it was pretty good. They have a large selection of different types of foods to choose from. I think this is an okay sports bar/dinner place to chill at. Also, the waffle fries are pretty good! I also really liked our waitress, who was very friendly and patient with our huge group of like 16 people. The location is right smack in the middle of a sizable mall in Durham. I think I would check out this place again sometime if I were craving a good burger. David's VPP (Value per price): 5/10

Ok so I have given myself an hour cooling off period prior to posting this.. Went here after going to the movies with my daughter and her friend. Sat down and waited about 5-7 minutes before getting drinks 2 waters and a Shirley temple.. Ok so we ordered. Girls weren't particularly hungry so I ordered one kids pizza with side of oranges and a buffalo chicken wrap for myself. 40 minutes later (it wasn't busy at all) our food arrives and they brought me incorrect menu item some other kid of chicken wrap. At this point I was just ready to go so asked for bill and box for kids food.. They had plenty of time to eat it though while we waited for bill to be sorted out. Bill comes they took wrap off however charged me $11.27 for the 1 kids meal. The side and drink were both charged separately even though it is all suppose to be included in the kids meal. So I asked waitress to get a manager and fix it. Not sure if they did actually get it fixed BC it was taking them so long I finally just got up and got my card and left should have stayed and made sure it was all taken care of but didn't want to be rude in front of the kids. I will NEVER go back and if my credit card doesn't reflect the correct charge for a children's meal I will be calling corporate. I will also post a photo of the kids menu perhaps I misread it but it seems to quite clearly include a side and drink.

Came here all the time but yesterday was the worse service ever. Let me start at the beginning came here with a friend and we walked in and the guy didn't really greeted us plus we waited for like 10mins before he ever seated us. Our waiting was the only highlight of the night. He got our order down right but after 40 mins of waiting for it he got mad for us because our food wasn't out yet so he asked would we like anything for free since we waited a long time which was nice of him. I left him a $10 tip because he was a great guy but this place gets only one star for the wait..... Sad part was it was a Wednesday the slowest night of the week because there was hardly anyone in there. Would have been better if the manager came over a gave my $40 dinner a discount

The menu was fairly large with everything you'd expect from a sports bar. I ordered the Carolina Burger: bourbon bbq sauce, cheddar, cole slaw, and fried onion strings. The burger was cooked well, but being from western PA, my standards are a little high when it comes to coleslaw on sandwiches (DAT PRIMANTI'S). The waffle fries were just ok. The cocktail selection was very large, the middle-aged women at my table were more than pleased. The beer selection was a bit of a disappointment. They have every macro you can imagine, but are really lacking on the craft beer options. The craft they did have were solid options, I went with Belgian Style Strong Golden Ale from Triangle Brewing, there just weren't a lot of them. I think they had New Belgium and maybe 2 other craft beers on tap. As far as a place to watch the game, this place is great. There were many large TVs around the bar. I think you would have a great view of multiple TVs regardless of where you are sitting. I can imagine this place gets crowded, but on this Friday evening it was maybe half-full. Kinda dead. Then again, there weren't any local sports on. A typical sports bar that would be great for watching the game or for large groups.

Our server was great, no complaints about him at all. The one thing that makes me second guess going to Champps again is the unsanitary practices. With a glass wall, you would think they would be extra cautious about what they do with the customers food. While at this establishment, I saw people taking fries from one plate and to add it to another, with their bare hands and texting on their phone then touching food to put on a plate (again with out gloves). The people on backline and the people that were getting the orders together were both touching the food. That is the only complaint I have about this place and I'm not sure if I will be back.

I have eaten in at Champps several times over the last few years, and have noticed a steady decline, especially in the last year. This restaurant has taken a serious dive, in cleanliness, food quality and service. I was recently in the restaurant (craving hot wings), I crossed my legs to feel a big wad on gum on my pants, after looking under several other tables, I finally found one without any gum stuck underneath. I made our server aware, who did nothing, not even an apology. My daughters pizza was under-cooked, and mine was OK. Sadly, I will not return to this restaurant after this last meal. Paid a little over 30.00 for everything, and felt really dissatisfied. Not good, and will not recommend!

Got chicken tenders for app. Tasty but not many for $11. Wedge salad was good value and very nice. Chili was good but not off the charts. The big disappointment was the signature hamburger. Lots of veggies ,lettuce cheese etc laid atop a burger that looked like it came from Mickey D's. Not exactly like the picture on the menu The real accomplishment for the kitchen was it cooked a burger that had absolutely NO flavor. Texture yes. Flavor? No. I don't know how they managed it. So this was my first visit and probably my last. When you pay $48, you expect something more than bland. As for service , slow and low energy.

This place is terrible. Wednesday night walked in at 5:20 pm.ordered the appetizer sampler.got to table at 6:10.the place had 19 people in it.Entrees arrived at 6:20 pm upon which the clueless waiter asked if the appetizer was good.l couldn't really answer because it was only 1/3 done and my dinner was now also on the table .ordered fish and chips the most soggy bland tasteless fish and chips ever.ended up walking out and left the wife and daughter to pay.this place is a joke 20 people in it and they can't properly space out the food. Useless waiter was an idiot.

Terrible experience even with low expectations considering it is a sports bar. Took forever to be seated even though there were only 3 other tables in the entire restaurant. We had a party of 8 and they put together a square table and a circle one? There were plenty of available square tables available. Lost an appetizer order. We had to ask 4 different people to get silverware after salads and appetizers had been brought out. Messed up drink orders. Sides were very tiny. I had 9 fries in my order of waffle fries. I had the South of the Border burger which was very Meh. I have had much better orders for half the price. Then, to top everything off, it took FOREVER to get the checks (which of course had been split up incorrectly). I highly recommend dining elsewhere.

So it is what it is (a sports bar), but it does it well. It's closest competition in my orbit is Carolina Ale House on 15-501, and Champps rates a star better for me. The TV set-up allows you to be able to keep up with multiple games a little better because there are more big-screens. Plus, it's at Southpoint so the surrounding entertainment/shopping options are way better. This is a good place to pop in for a beer (or four) and some lunch before a movie, while you're having auto maintenance done, after blowing some coin at Nordstrom, whatever. They have plenty of choices on tap and more in bottles. Based on my experience, I would skip the mixed drinks here and stick to the suds. The service here is consistently friendly, efficient, and attentive. The bar area is big enough that there are always good seats, except when there's a huge game or a pay-per-view type thing going on. They have good continuity of employees as well, since I tend to recognize the bar servers and they recognize me. The menu is probably a little too big, because when you don't know what you want it can give you some analysis paralysis because of the overload of options. (It's not quite as unwieldy as the Cheesecake Factory menu, but close.) I tend to like their seafood pastas, and the chili is very good as well. But I've never had anything that was less than good for this type of comfort fare.

The pecan crusted chicken is A-MA-ZING!! Great place for a night out with friends and prices are decent

This is your typical sports bar. Normal menu with good food. Nothing super special about this place.
(3)Alexandra W.
Very yummy. Bartender Uriel did an amazing job. Blue burger and firehouse burger surprising very satisfying. .. do wish they gave more fries (even though that is probably all I needed) Cucumber smash martini.....refreshing and delicious.

We have eaten at this restaurant in Arlington, VA with not complaints. The restaurant in durham was dirty with napkins and food all over the floor. The service was horrible. We ordered drinks and we had to grab a random waiter to get them for us after about twenty minutes. Then we had to ask the manager to grab our food after we watched it sit for over twenty minutes. This location definitely needs to get it together. ( and they had more than enough wait staff- half of them were sitting talking at a table)
(2)Mistery M.
Not bad. 3 stars isn't the end of the world. This place plays it reallllllll safe. I bet all the food comes from Sysco out of microwave plastic baggies. That said the steamed broccoli was nice, the sweet potato fries were eh, the veggie burger was... pretty good! Cheap beer etc but I managed to order myself up a $17 cocktail with disaranno and a shot of ketel. Who says you can't buy self worth? ha
(3)Karman K.
The food is a solid "meh" but I have to say, this birthday club is LEGIT! If you (and your friends, you will need at least one other person or plan on a to-go container) haven't tried the Mile High Pie... you need to, seriously, now. This is a 6 layers ice cream cake (vanilla, chocolate, coffee) with oreo crust, whipped cream, hot fudge, caramel, toffee bits - yeah, this review is pretty much all about the dessert. Do yourself a favor - sign up for the birthday club to try one for free! Nom, nom!

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had! I entered the restaurant in a group of three. We initially had a 45 minute wait. Once we were seated, It took 20 mins before a worker took our drink orders (there was no lemonade) and informed us that she would get a server. There was no kind of apology for the wait. Before she even approached our table the first time, several servers walked by and none of them ever asked if we had been helped (even the guy that seated us passed our table twice). Once we got our drinks another 10 minutes passed and we still didn't have a server. After another couple of minutes we just left without ordering and nobody attempted to stop us! The customer services and quality of this place is gone and I seriously used to eat here all the time. Zinburger to the rescue.

Drove down to Durham, the birthplace of my dear old dad, to visit with his side of the family while I was on the east coast for the holidays. Ironically, we drove down on a day when there were tornadoes touching down in VA and NC. Ah...fickle east coast weather. How I've miss thee! Where else is it going to be 68 one day, 32 the next, and then 65 with pouring rain and tornado warnings?! Anyway, we get to Champps, and I'm thinking, "Ok...typical sports bar/restaurant." And I was RIGHT! It's typical. Every television was turned to an ACC basketball game, and the menu is typical of a southern sports bar/restaurant. And by NO MEANS am I complaining about that! I grew up in VA, went to college at NC State, and now live in California. For once it was great to be surrounded by ACC athletics. For once I was at a sports bar and NOT surrounded by obnoxious USC fans (I actually like UCLA fans). LA is totally overrun by USC fans (75% of which have NO affiliation with the school other than they share the same air space). I digress... I ordered the pull pork sandwich, and it was pretty good. (Side note: I was home for an entire month for the holidays and I ordered pulled pork at least 75% of the time I went out to eat. LA does NOT have easily accessible pulled pork!) The waitress had to deal with my entire family (a party of about 12), and she took it all in stride. All of our orders were on point. She did the damn thing. Anyway...overall it was a pretty good experience. I have NO clue as to when I'd be back in Durham, but if I am, I wouldn't be adverse to eating here again.

Don't worry Champps, others might think you are just typical, slow, and downright unpleasant, but you are a solid champ in my book! Maybe I lucked out every time I go there. I have a good friend that lives in Greensboro, whenever we meet up half-way, it's always at Southpoint; dinner time around this part, you can only have so much high class Italian or pizzas from California, or cheesecakes, before you get sick and tired of them. Oh who am I kidding? I can never have too many cheesecakes! But I digress. The menu definitely has some variety. I would never thought to come to a sports bar to get a traditional gyros, but it was mighty good, down to that cucumber sauce. That Mongolian egg rolls? Those ain't egg rolls! Egg rolls are the size of a quarter roll, not heavy and thumping like a fried burrito! That was the first time I thought possibly I could have been full just getting the appetizer. Nah. Not gonna happen! I also got a serving of that loaded chips, and boy let me tell you, it was truly loaded, with cheeses, cheddar and Pepperjack and mozarella and asiago! Even when you don't want anything else, you still have room for that huge club sandwich. I've been here to watch the Playoff, the World Series, and one Superbowl (when my QB Eli Manning won his first ring) and the experience had always been quite pleasant. You won't run into anyone that want to rip your head off if you cheer for "the wrong team." The only downside is the rather unimpressive display of draft beer; but as long as they keep Guinness and Sam Adams on tap I won't complain too much.
(4)Brian H.
Waited 10 minutes before anyone showed up for drinks. The comment we got Was they had bunch of groups come in for lunch. We waited over one hour before getting our food delivered I don't recommend this for lunch unless you have all afternoon. Couldn't get anyone to get refills on water. The food finally did come and was hot and cooked perfectly. Have better and quicker options in and around the Southpoint mall area that would better serve your lunch needs. Lunch eaters beware!
(1)Bruce G.
My Experience with Champps may not be as bad as a lot of the other reviews here (ouch!), but I don't consider Champps a great sports bar or restaurant either. I have been a few times here to watch sporting events (why else would you go?). The service can be a bit slow. I think the beers are over-priced and the food is average at best. They do have plenty of tv's large and small, so you if watching the big game is your priority and you happen to be in the Southpoint area then this is a viable option. On a side note, Champps is located in a busy mall, can get very crowded and there are often crying babies competing with the noise level of the fans. Parking at Southpoint can be a pain too!
(3)Jon K.
What a great place to catch a game! The food is better than you'd expect from a sports bar, and consistently outshines the competition. I actually found myself eaton outside and getting takeout from the place, so you know I like it! Everything I've had has been good, from sandwiches to burgers to salads. And, of course, they've got all the games! Probably not the greatest TV set-up, but as long as you know what game you want, you'll be able to get a seat near a tv with it on. Don't hesitate to spend a Sunday afternoon at Champps!
(4)Bryan F.
I have been to 2 Campps in NJ but none outside of the state. This one in NC I have been to many years ago, when in town for work, and decided to try it again. Love the TVs and sports selections - there was a UNC football game on tonight, so the energy was up. Ate some wings and side salad and was not disappointed! I think they re-invented their wings and made some changes to the sauce/sides. Good idea! Would come here again.
(4)Rhianna C.
We were looking for a place to grab a few drinks after a movie since it was already late and the go-to Mexican place was closed. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great. Our margaritas tasted like they were mostly filler and not alcohol. The salads were OK, one had a bit of brown lettuce, but not enough to complain about. There are a lot of TVs, but none were playing any games I wanted to watch and I didn't care enough to see if they'd put on something else. Our server was great, it wasn't super expensive, and it was close to the movies. I'll probably stick to beer the next time I'm in.
(3)Larry G.
Bartender (black beard) ignored me for 15 minutes, serving other customers who arrived after I did.
(1)James R.
Bad, slow service. Cold food. I could microwave roast beef and toast some bread and it would taste the same as the "French dip" for $10 cheaper. Wasn't even a busy day so no excuses.
(1)Israel H.
So I figured I would try this place out after going to the neighboring restaurants so many times. They dont seem to have sufficient front desk staff to speak to.. since whomever is at the front desk, walks you to your table and leaves everyone else behind. I just wanted to sit at the bar to eat and couldnt see the bar from that vantage point. I finally just walked on in and found the bar. The bar staff were nice, but difficult to comprehend. I am not sure if it was his accent, the noise level or both. I ordered the fish and chips and was not impressed. It wasn't bad, but by far not best.
(3)John H.
Champps is a nice play to go with family. There is typical bar food and what not, but the sandwiches and meals are better than most. Even though it is outside the mall in Southpoint, it really is a good restaurant. Most people I know enjoy the fajitas, tuna melt, and spicy buffalo chicken sandwich. There is not a lot of vegetarian food available. Very limited unless they changed the menu recently. Admittedly, the waffle fries are pretty good. Also, meat eaters will love the wings and potato skins. Service is really hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get someone very nice, and on others, completely incompetent. I've gone here for years because my family and relatives enjoy meeting here for a get together. They will always have some of the big games on, and if it is Carolina related, be guaranteed that several screens will have Duke, Tarheels, NC State, Hurricanes, Panthers, and yes, even the Bobcats (maybe).
(4)Nancy N.
I didn't have any expectations for this place. From the name, I figured that it is just another American franchise, whose menu is condensed with bar food. Nope, Champps did not prove me wrong on this one. Just because they spell champs with 2 p's does not make them any more special lol The interior is meant to please any sport fans of the schools in the triangle area or nearby, featuring flags from Duke, UNC, NC State, Clemson, Virginia Tech and a few others.. pretty relaxed/casual environment. It's a huge bar so I believe the owner wanted to create a good space/atmosphere to accommodate large crowds for big games. The place was pretty deserted for lunch hour, which is never a good sign. I ordered a pulled-pork BBQ sandwich that came with house-made chips and coleslaw. The pulled-pork was very dry and not very flavorful. The chips were burnt. I didn't have coleslaw on my plate so I asked our waitress, "Doesn't this dish come with coleslaw?" She replies "It does. Did you want it?" lol yes, I would definitely LOVE what is suppose to come with my meal. Thank you? As stated previously, I didn't have much expectation for this place and for good reason.

This corporate restaurant based in the Midwest has the usual bar food such as burgers, salads, wings, sandwiches, pasta, ribs, some seafood. This location is located on The Streets of Southpoint mall with many TVs. There should be something on the menu that everyone should enjoy. It is a large and extensive menu. On this visit I ordered the wings and they were the smallest wings I have ever seen. The sauce is good, but the wings were way too small. Two bites and your done small. All of the waiters and waitresses wear NFL jerseys on Sundays. Food C Staff B Decor B Location A Health Inspection Grade 96.0
(3)Valencia W.
Love the quality and quanity of tv with different games and programs on each one.
(5)Jay F.
Nice bartender was friendly and drinks weren't too pricey. Place was dead though and so was the mall.
(4)Jaimey H.
Chammps is your typical bar food style resturaunt, nothing special about the food and the layout is standard big screens everywhere. But what pushes this place from a 3-star review to a 4-star rating are the daily drink specials. Now before you get all intervention on me, hear me out! Chammps got me through my first year of law school final exams so much so that once I was done with exams, I immediately took a large group there and we had a blast. From martini day to LIT day to my absolute favorite Margarita night, Champs has great daily drink specials. I am not a beer person, so I have been trying to find a place that has a decent drink special to have a nice happy hour drink with some friends. Chammps has fit that bill, and since the bar area is so big it really makes you feel like you are at happy hour. To me this is great because since I have moved to NC I have missed the great happy hour specials I used to get in DC and MD, but now Chammps is making me feel a little bit better about my love of a good drink after a hard day of work.

I've been enjoying coming to Champps since it opened some 10 years ago. It's nice to come here to catch a game with the TV's just about everywhere you look and know we can count a good meal too. It's quite a large menu and it seems to be taking me a while to work my way through it all. Portions are always large so plan on leftovers. The nacho's are huge and every time I see a plate go by to another table I say I must try them, but still haven't had a chance! Their homemade chips really hit the spot while waiting for an entree too, along with lots of other appetizers. I can always count on the burgers being cooked perfectly and being huge! There's also a nice choice of salads to choose from that are more than enough to fill anyone up. The pasta choices are very good too and one of my favorites is the chicken artichoke with sun dried tomatoes in a creamy pasta sauce. The ribs are very good too. Really, no matter what I've tried here it always hits the spot. On my last visit I had the BBQ chicken salad and everything was fresh and had excellent flavor. The tiny black beans and corn salsa in it was a nice touch. I substituted ranch dressing for the chipotle ranch and glad I did as there was enough of a kick in it already. My dining partner, who is very choosy, had the chicken ceasar salad and gave it two thumbs up. We shared the dessert trio, which we've had before and liked, but this time it was just so-so. It seemed like they overdid it with the whipped cream which covered up the taste of the brownie, ice cream with cookie, and cheesecake. We also forgot the little bowls they come in. They look like little urinals and are quite a turnoff!! I don't visit as often as I'd like as it can be a little pricey. Since joining their email list they send discounts quite regularly, which does help.

It would tell you something if you walk-in this restaurant and have a table for you in 5 mins while all the surrounding restaurants are on 45 mins waiting time...... you shouldn't waste your money to try this at all...... just for the heads-up ......

Had dinner with my girls here last Saturday night. I am not a fan of sports bars and considering how big this place is I was not sure if I would enjoy it. I ate here a few times when the mall first opened 10 years ago. We enjoyed our experience. The staff was friendly. The wait for a table was short. The food and drinks were good. Plenty of tvs to watch the games.

My teenager was taking a cooking class at Sur La Table 11-1pm M-F and as we live in Raleigh, thought it best just to hangout in Southpoint Mall. I had never been there before or Champps. So I spent 5 days, all of them vissiting Champps during lunch hour. This is a review that covers five visits. Surprisingly, having never been to one before and not relishing the "Sports Bar" vibe, this place was great. Servers were terrific/attentive; food good (try the four pepper tuna or spinach/artichoke dip apps - or both); and definitely, have a drink or two. Unlike most pubs that rape you on pricing, a double Bloody Mary (hey, it's a morning drink) is only 7 bucks and they have a good selection of beers on-tap. Champps is not gourmet but good food, good drinks, good people at a good price.

Will not be coming back. Got to the restaurant and the hostess was nowhere to be found for the first ten minutes. We should've taken that as a sign of how the rest of the meal would go. After the two of us sat down at the patio, our server never showed up until ten minutes later. We placed an order of chicken tacos and pasta. I set a timer to see how long it would take the food to come out. 45 minutes went by and our server was no where to be seen and never gave us a status on our order. The patio had cleared out and we were the only table left. The manager came to our table and apologized but did not give us a reason for the delay. A full hour passed and we finally got our food. The reason I gave two stars instead of one was because the manager came out and told us the meal was on the house. At least he tried to make it better but it was too late. We barely made it to our movie. It was weird that they never told us what the issue was since the restaurant was empty and the server never made a comment about our order being late.

So the reviews are average, but the place is always packed. Best food ever? Nope. Cheap drink prices? Nope. But they have a lot of TVs, pretty good service, and its an easy place to meet at southpoint.

No hot water in the women's bathroom. How does the wait staff effectively wash their hands?

Champps is a sports bar. A really big sports bar. The food is as you would expect in such a place. However they do have a nice kids menu and our servers have always been really nice about our requests to have the kids meals rushed out to the table before my little darlings start a riot. They also don't seem phased about requests for extra plates or napkins. And when I asked for a table near the restrooms (we were still potty training.) they acted that sort of thing was perfectly normal. It's pretty noisy, but we just used that as cover for our squealing banshees. Toddlers are loud. If you're looking for a causal place to take the kids without worry about offending anyone with the normal kid hijinks, then this is a great place to start teaching them about how to go about having dinner in public. PS: The beer is cold, which I appreciated very much!

I wasn't expecting much when I came here... I was at south point mall with a friend and decided to get something to eat. Champps was the first place we saw so we went there. The restaurant was empty, only about two or three people eating there. We were quickly seated and a server arrived instantly. I think this server was new, she was really quiet, didn't talk much, she seemed kinda nervous, but non the less she took our orders with no problem and checked in on us every once in a while. I ordered the bruschetta burger (well done), it was served on a sour dough bun, topped with roma tomatoes, basil, provolone cheese, and marinated in a balsamic dressing. It came with a side of some sort of pasta salad, but I substituted it for fries. The burger was big, and savory, the overall taste was pretty good, nothing I disliked about it really, but it wasn't amazing. They could have added a little more fries...Price was okay too, around $12 It was just an average sports bar/restaurant..Nothing special about it.

Came to Champps for dinner an hour before a movie. Our wait staff accommodated us nicely knowing that we didn't have much time. We were seated quickly and orders taken right away. I had the bleu cheeseburger with onion rings and my DH had the french dip with fries. The food was typical for a sports bar. As sports fans, we did appreciate the large tv screens everywhere to catch the latest and greatest.

$2 Tuesdays. This place is nice enough for a sports bar. The mall it is in is a bit upscale so the sports bar is a bit upscale, prices included. The food was what I expected, hearty American food a bit overpriced, but to be expected of a sports bar inside of a mall. The atmosphere is nice and so are the waitresses. All in all I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a good bite to eat that is willing to pay for the atmosphere it comes with.

I went to Champp's twice this week, because it was convenient to the shopping my family wanted to do, and because they could show the baseball games we wanted to watch. In that aspect, they were great - they accommodated us in playing the games on some of the large screens so we wouldn't have to strain to see the action. Both times we went, the waitstaff seemed to be somewhat in disarray, despite the fact that it wasn't busy either time we went. Luckily, both times an enterprising server took the initiative to come take care of us, even though we weren't in their section. That was much appreciated, and I really regret not writing down their names as they should be commended for taking responsibility for us. Ultimately for me, the downfall was the food. Over the course of the two meals, I had: the chicken nachos, the bourbon salmon, buffalo wings, and chicken and steak fajitas. The chicken nachos were good. The bourbon salmon was delicious, but the vegetables that came with it were so coated in rosemary that I couldn't eat them. The buffalo wings were gross - they tasted like butter, with a hint of buffalo sauce. The chicken and steak fajitas were pretty bad too - the steak tasted funny, the green bell peppers were tasteless mush, and the guacamole and rice were pretty tasteless as well. I think if I go back, I'll just stick with drinks and fries or something - the drinks we had were fine, the bartender was relatively attentive, and then I can watch the game without being distracted by bad food.

Champs is alright. It's a typical bar-chain, a bit overpriced, pretty cold inside... Service at this location is great so I'll give it that. Just nothing special for the amount you pay, in my opinion... Bdubs (buffalo wild wings) across the street is far better, in my opinion.

As far as chain sports bars go, this place works for me. They have a good layout, plenty of TVs and a good sports bar menu. I've had quite a few of their burgers and have never been let down. Mondays they have $5.99 burgers for lunch which makes convincing co-workers to head out to lunch that much easier. They also have daily drink specials if you need to forget those co-workers later on. Beer selection is mainly the big-box breweries, but I've gotten over it since the rest of the positives make up for it. Only bit negative is parking at Southpoint is always a chore. I tried putting Lexus logos on my Mazda for free valet parking, but it didn't fool them.

Champps is a great goto if you're at south-point mall and can't afford Firebirds, or don't want to read through Cheesecake factory's bible of a menu. I've always had solid service here, and generally only get the pulled pork sandwich or the appetizer platter with some beer. They have a huge array of TV's and do a great job of keeping the audio on the game until theirs a commercial in which some cases they've jammed out music (a great touch in my opinion). Seems to have a lot of haters, but I've probably been here 50 times and can't remember a bad experience. The only con is trying to finish the huge double decker bacon cheeseburger, a bunch of friends and I tried in high school and almost passed out there was so much food inside of us.
(4)Britney W.
The chicken club sandwich is the best!! Ive also had the chicken parm sandwich and that was amazing too! Great to go when there is a sporting event on tv. There are plenty of tvs and a nice bar!
(4)Paul W.
Staff didn't even know the miniscule beer list. Food is questionable at best I would avoid this unless like us, you just got back to your hotel at midnight and this was the only choice, although going hungry might have been better. Also, front desk was empty upon entering, but after waiting 10 minutes with a bartender who could see us, we had to go back to secure a waiter. Should have figured not being able to spell Champs was a bad omen

My first and last visit. Hubby and I went here for 'date night' and even though it was busy, I have to say we were seated right away. We placed our order and when the food came, my order was completely wrong. I ordered a pasta dish and they came out with burgers and fries. I did receive an apology in the form of a laugh and an offer to have the fries from the wrong order. I declined and by the time my food actually came, I was full from eating from my husbands plate. The manager came by but stood there nonchalantly until the correct order came out and walked away. We paid a lot of money to not be able to enjoy the rest of our night out because I was so frustrated with the service. I will not go back.

I don't think this place is as bad some of the reviews here made it out to be. It's a pretty decent sports bar/restaurant if you can't get your game at home. On a Saturday they had specials of $3 Miller Lites, which isn't terrible. For food we got the loaded chips, which are basically potato chips with cheese, bacon and some other goodies piled on top. It's good gameday finger food, but I'm sure one of the most unhealthiest things ever (cost about $10). I split that with another person and we were almost full after that. But figuring we needed protein, we also got a burger and fries which was another $10. We got the firehouse burger which has peppers and jalapenos and it was decent. I thought the portions were good and if you split an appetizer and sandwich with someone, it comes out pretty reasonably priced. They're also pretty accommodating with putting on whatever game you want on the television that's near you if no one else is really watching the television by you.

I try to give a place the benefit of the doubt, but I was really disappointed on July 4 when my daughter, son-in-law, their 2 children and I stopped in for an early dinner around 5 PM. The restaurant was only about half full, but we still had to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. Then another 15 minutes before a server showed up who explained that we weren't at one of her tables but since no one had picked us up she would take us. The food and drinks at Champs are just okay, not super, and certainly don't warrant the kind of delays we experienced in being seated, then having our orderers taken. This isn't the first time I've had this experience at Champs, but it's likely to be the last.

Meh. Overpriced chain restaurants never satisfy me. Inattentive wait service outside. Our table had drinks and 3 appetizers, which were large, but all shining with grease.
(3)Brenda C.
Crappy food, big TVs. Good place to just go watch a game. I've met friends here many times, I try to avoid eating here because it's not that great, not that cheap, and huge fattening portions. But it's okay if you just want a couple of drinks and maybe some appetizers. I would avoid the potato skins at all costs!

We went there last night (Coworkers and I) and then again today for the world cup finals. Waitresses were really nice both days. The place had tons of TVS and good atmosphere to watch sporting events. large large large thus great and easy seating. Outdoors you can watch people walk around at southpoint or inside there is nice bar area and also seating. I liked how the places was A/Ced since NC is so frickin hot. Now for the food and drinks: Had blue moon, tons of random beers, didn't try any of the slushy or other drinks. Steak salad looked great my friend got it and it was huge portion, steak looked good, etc. ahi tuna salad was not. It was crusted on the raw tuna which made it taste weird. The raw was just inside and not a premium piece of tuna on the salad. The leaves were nothing insteresting and there wasn't that much actual salad prob 1/4 of the size of a normal salad there on this. The cobb salad had huge portions and the chef salad is def recommended. The burgers were standard, steak fries were great, nachos were enormous. The chick sliders were in huge portions like reg size burgers anywhere else with the toppings on but 3 of them. Desserts were enough to share and split. It seemed normally priced for the atmosphere and area.

I like Champps. I like the food. I like the atmosphere. But the service here ... it's either on or it's off. Sometimes you get a server that's excited about life and is attentive but other times, you wonder if anybody is actually at work. There are screens E V E R Y W H E R E. It's great for watching games. I came with my mom today and our food was delicious and I had also received a coupon for $10 off $25 or more. WIN! They have something for every pallette. Burgers, fish, salads, chicken ... you name it, they've got it. I don't drink but there are PLENTY of specials ALWAYS! Come here and GET YOUR LIFE!

The worst bar service in the triangle. The bartenders have absolutely no sense of urgency. Last night, I went in after work for $2.00 drafts. It took over 30 minutes to get beers, despite the fact we're regulars from one of the local restaurants, they will walk past us with out acknowledging us. I will never go back, and that's way sad, since I work across the walkway. I think they take it for granted that the service staff from local restaurants will come after work. I will say I have never eaten or had a lunch or dinner experience there. I am only basing this on drinks after work.

Bad, bad, bad. I've been to Champps on several occasions and only once did I receive the level of service and food I expected (and trust me, expectations were not exceedingly high considering it's a sports bar). Most recently a friend and I stopped in around lunch time for lunch and drinks. We sat at the bar where we were greeted by John, given menus and drinks, and then promptly deserted. We, along with a handful of other customers, waited for roughly 15 minutes until John (the only bartender) returned from his voyage. Upon his return, he sought out new customers who had sat down since his absence and continued to ignore those of us wanting to order food or new drinks. I had a total "nobody puts Baby in a corner" moment, threw down enough cash to cover my drink and walked out. In a moment of delusion just two days later, I decided to try Champps again. This time we didn't even make it past the hostess stand, as we were informed there was a private party beginning at 10pm and food service had ceased. When we explained we just wanted a drink at the bar, she said we could do so until 9:30pm (it was 9:25pm). No thanks, I'll spend my cash in a place that wants it. Won't be back.

Typical chain restaurant food. The plus was that it is huge and had a five minute wait on a Saturday night. Another plus was the kids menu, dining with kids can be a chore and my kid tends to like the typical fair (pizza, fries, chicken fingers). While I found the food pretty bland with nothing exciting, on the flip side my 16 yr old loved the pasta. I tend to favor robust flavoring, however it was good overall. I would say pretty average.

Typical chain. Food ok. Sure it is a great place for sports. Service was the worst. Wrong food sent to three out of five of us. Couldnt find our waitress, my guess, smoke breaks. Well I am finishing this review up today, late July. We went for mother's day, only because so many other places at Southpoint were packed. We now know why. The reason I am just finishing this is because I forgot you have to come back to complete review and my wife just brought up how bad her mother's day was because of this meal.

Great veggie burgers and awesome waffle fries. It's full of sports fans screaming at the TVs. If you love good food whilst watching a game get here!!
(4)Sarah T.
I will say the food here is hit or miss. I love the wings and chicken entrees. We ordered salmon one time and it was disgusting. My mistake on that one. Service is okay, we try to go at off times to avoid waiting too long for food. Normally we will swing in if we are already in the area and it's not too crowded. I will say I've seen the waitresses hanging out in the bathroom gossiping or talking on their cell phones on a couple of the times we made the mistake of going when it was jam packed. I get everyone needs a break when you're at work, but isn't there someplace out of the public eye where I won't start to think that's why it's taken 45 minutes for an appetizer to show up?

To watch the game, Chammps can't be beat...when they have the right games on. The restaurant is spacious and allows you to catch several games at once, but the downfall of Chammps is that they can't guarantee what games will come on and where (b/w TVs and projectors) and that when they have special events (big fight), they'll actually kick you out if you're not willing to pay extra to see the event. The food is mixed, the kobe beef sliders were $11 for 3 tiny burgers. Regular entree burgers and fries are good, if you're willing to wait 20 minutes for your food. Service is mixed as well, servers are attentive but seem stretched thin. On recent occasion it took several requests to get simple things like silverware, glasses of water, etc. Overall though, it's a great location to meet up with a group to watch the game.

Lets start with we stopped going here a few years ago because the service was awful multiple times. The only reason we've been back is to use the $10 off $25 coupon that is sent to our house three times a year. Ok, my food from Wednesday night - Side Caesar Salad very small, very average and one crouton! really? Why bother. Entree - Double Pepper Jack Burger with Queso Fries. Pretty good a little greasy but it is a double cheese burger. Here comes the problem waitress asks what kind of fries do you want? This place is actually known for good Waffle Fries so I say Waffle Fries. When the dinner arrives I get steak fries, well steak fry crumbs. So I ask waitress I ordered Waffle Fries. Her response we are out. 1. How about asking me if that is ok? 2. Look @ the plate and see that I just paid $13 dollars for a Burger and Potato Crumbs. My response why are you out? Her answer it is Wednesday. Then my head exploded. just a typical meal @ Chammps in Durham.
(2)Chase A.
Holy cow, I hate this place. Overpriced beer, overpriced food, bland all around, and somehow always packed.

Good food, very noisy for not being busy

After a disappointing experience for dinner at Cheesecake Factory, I was happily impressed with post-movie dessert at Champs. My friend was excited to see the Celtics on the big screen and the rest of us girls were excited about our array of desserts to share - mile high ice cream pie (it was SO high...seriously), chocolate cake, and turtle cheesecake. The cheesecake was the highlight for me, but the the ice cream cake was super fun due to the sheer size and also tasty. The chocolate cake was just ok - would've been disappointed if there hadn't been plenty of the other two around!

I was a bit leery walking into the place. Champps is part of a mall's trendy restaurant area along with other standard Mall restaurants. I usually avoid these because they are expensive and only have OK food. Chammps looked like what I expected. It was a cookie cutter sports bar. However, my meal was very good. I had a Turkey Burger (I don't eat red meat.) and it wasn't dry! I had a large lunch so I had veggies instead of fries. They were also very good, but no, they are not diet food. They had a good bit of oil from the cooking process. I was impressed with the beer selection. They have some local micro brews and on Tuesdays, drafts are only $2.50. Great. I got out of there for under $20 before the tip. Not bad. The service was pretty good. I had a little trouble getting the wireless to work. (For you tech's out there...I couldn't get an IP address. I got one eventually, but it took a while. I won't get into what I think is the problem.) If I can find a more local place tonight, I will likely go there, but Champps was OK.
(3)Lenka B.
Never again! I'm actually embarrassed that I ate here. I would have been more satisfied and spent less money had I stayed at home with a six pack of beer and a TV dinner. The service was not terrible or anything, but the food was worth maybe 1/8 of what it cost. This place could be a fun place to watch a sports game except for the fact that it is situated within a large shopping mall. The local is not exactly my idea of a good time or an ideal place for running into the blessed drunken sports fanatic.
(1)Luke C.
A large sports bar with TV and projection screens all the way round. They draw a large crowd and a lot of people come here to watch football and basketball. The food portions are moderate (which I think is great). Service is a little on the slow side with a full house. Has been voted best place in the triangle to watch live sports in the Independent a couple of times I think. Generally not bad, great with a group of friends.
(3)Jeremy P.
I've eaten here countless times since they've opened because I'm at Southpoint a lot for shopping and this is a solid place for a lunch burger or salad. I can't recall ever getting bad service whether I was in the bar or in the dining room. As far as their burgers go I'm partial to their patty melt. For lunch I'm a big fan of their chicken salad sandwich which you'd think could come off being a typically bland sandwich but they make it homemade style with big chunks of chicken and a flavorful mix of other ingredients that make it my favorite non-burger option on the menu. They also show UFC fights here. I've been there twice to view the fights and just kept the beers and appetizers coming for the duration and had a great time. If I could improve one thing it would probably be the beers on tap as their selection of good dark stuff or our plethora of local brews is pretty sparse. This place is huge so I see no reason why they shouldn't have double the taps and satisfy the real beer drinkers.
