We had lunch here after our tour of the estate. The location is the original stable at the Biltmore and it's beautiful and well preserved. We actually sat in a booth inside an old horse stall. Although it caters to the thousands of tourists that visit every day the food was quite solid. I had a bacon bison burger and the wife had a fried bean fritter wrap. Both were very good. For desert we split the Key lime pie with a meringue topping. Also had a couple of their local beers on tap which is always enjoyable.

There's some thing kind of cool about having a meal in the place where horses and carriages belonging to the Vanderbilts once trod. My wife and I were seated up in the loft (yes, there's two floors to this place.) The service here was very good. Our waiter was punctual with keeping our drinks filled. I ordered the rotisserie chicken, which is supposed a 100 year tradition at the Biltmore Estate. It came with potato wedges and a seasonal vegetable medley consisting of zucchini, squash, green beans, and onions. I don't know about a 100 year tradition, but the chicken tasted like it had been frozen, acquired some freezer burn, and then was tossed onto the rotisserie. That frozen taste was the only flavor that it had. The portion that I ordered was the "leg" portion, and it was definitely the leg of a cornish game hen as opposed to a chicken. Given the fact that it wasn't very good quality, the small portion size was more of a blessing than anything. The potato wedges were great, and the vegetables were fine also. My wife ordered the Carolina BBQ plate. She had no complaints about her meal of pulled pork and spicy fries. She cleaned her plate. The prices are a bit high. My plate was $12. It was actually less money than the cheeseburger that was on the menu, which is odd. Usually, the burger is the cheap go to. Overall, our experience was satisfactory. If I go back to the estate, I might stop here, but I would not get the chicken again. I doubt that Mr. Vanderbilt would have been pleased with the quality of that dish if it was put before him.

We are Biltmore Passholders and have eaten at every restaurant on the estate many times over. We have always enjoyed the Stable Cafe because it's convenient to the house and the food and service has been good. That all changed yesterday. Our "waiter", Peter, was terrible. He walked around like he was in a trance. I was drinking unsweetened iced tea, he refilled my glass with sweet tea. He stumbled around, aimlessly. He seemed overwhelmed with the three tables he was taking care of. It was the first time ever that we didn't leave our customary 25+% tip. Our food was ok, but Peter didn't serve it, someone else brought our meals to our table - only after they tried to deliver it to another table!! We later had ice cream and the two employees in the ice cream shop hadn't a clue!! People were actually walking out in disgust. It's time that Biltmore pay attention to how their staff is performing. Also, many of the staff inside the home didn't even make eye contact with the guests! Hello? Any body there? It cost a small fortune to visit Biltmore - so why not provide good value for money??!

Decent food for when you need a quick break from the amazing estate. There were 5 of us so we were seated in a booth tucked in a former horse stall which was nice and cozy. I tried the smoked turkey sandwich (basically a club) which was perfectly crispy with thick bacon and nice slices of turkey and fresh tomatoes. Three in our group enjoyed the chicken salad which was a big healthy scoop of moist flavorful chicken salad over friend greens. The service was friendly and we were happy with the meal. It was a nice spot for lunch.

Yummy stuff! This restaurant is literally located in the old stables - remodeled to look rustic and charming - on the Biltmore Estate grounds. You can choose from the fast food cart outside serving hotdogs (no thanks) or opt for this place. I was slightly concerned since this was literally the only major restaurant here and it was on the grounds. For a "tourist" spot on the estate grounds, the restaurant surprised me with it's impeccably detailed and friendly waiters, delicious local/seasonal menu options and fantastic service! Out of 8 of us, nobody had a mediocre meal, and everything was way above par! Man, was I happy I insisted on eating here. My brother in law however, enjoyed the hot dog cart outside. ;)

Got a package that included a free lunch for me and the wife, so after our early tour we came to have lunch. Wait wasn't too long, 25 mins tops, Waiter was great, very attentive and always checking on us. We ordered the Rotisserie Chicken, and Bison Estate Burger, which were phenomenal. I'm a fan, burger that a Sriracha Ketchup mix which brought it over the top. I think we will try all other restaurants next time we go back!

Great food, service, and generous amount of food. People works here goes beyond expectations.
(5)Harold J.
Go to lunch spot while on the Biltmore grounds. We did not feel taken for granted as tourist in the service and food we received. Will defiantly be back.
(5)Shawn J.
Great food, and a charming atmosphere. Service was good, and the place was nice and clean. The Shrimp and Grits are made with Goat Cheese and they are superb! I think they have ruined it for me now though, as no other Shrimp and Grits will ever taste this good. Why can't everybody cook more with Goat Cheese? My family had a wonderful lunch here and we will return.
(5)David M.
Good food for the price. Had a quinoa salad with kale. A little too much dressing but good enough. Service was good but they do the tandem thing. Not a fan. Air conditioning was too good. Most people would love that, I guess. Had a bean burger with aioli. Tasty. Dessert sampler and coffee was fantastic. The lavender tart was imaginative.
(3)Alan D.
Surprisingly affordable. I tried the country food (?) sampler and the chicken feta quiche. Both were quite good, except the rotisserie chicken was incredibly dry. The grits were great and the quiche was my favorite item. The Biltmore-raised Carolina bison is very good and the fries are excellent. We also had the dessert sampler which was okay. I guess I'm not really a huge dessert fan. Service was great.
(4)Kate W.
Went here mainly for convenience, because of the reviews and for the opportunity to eat on property. The stable booth tables r not for anyone larger or in my case pregnant as it is too tight to sit. We sat at a table. The service was good and waitress was nice. 2 of us ordered the quiche and 2 ordered the bison burger. Both were good. The salad that came with the quiche was pretty dry but extra dressing fixed that. It was interesting too...mustard Dijon vinaigrette. We asked for pickles which they didn't charge us for. They have delicious dill spears and bread and butter pickles. Highly recommended. The bison burger was huge and delicious. I liked their lemonade too. The reason they are receiving 4 stars is because when we went to the Biltmore bakery outside the restaurant, they sold the same quiche for half the price. Very disappointing that they would do that.

I'm in love with this place. Not sure if it was the environment, service, or the excellent food, but I can't wait to revisit this restaurant. I ordered the herb roasted rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. My fiance ordered the Stable Cafe sampler, which came with an assortment of meats and sides. Needless to say, he was in heaven with his dish. I love rustic food, and this sure hit the spot. The chicken and veggies had great flavor, and the potatoes were creamy and tasty. They also serve the meal with bread and butter. My favorite part of the meal was dessert. They had so many fantastic choices, but we decided on the sweet potato pie. Oh..my..goodness. I've never tasted such an amazing dessert. Never thought I would say that about sweet potato pie, but they do something magical with it. They serve it with a cinnamon sauce and a huge piece of pumpkin seed brittle. One piece was enough for the two of us, but I almost ordered a second piece! This place is great for a filling meal after you've completed your tour of the house. We saw that there were other places to eat that sold sandwiches and snacks, among other things. We wanted a hot meal with coffee instead, and that's exactly what we got.

What a pleasant surprise to have a meal at a major tourist attraction that wasn't just mass produced junk. Service was excellent, atmosphere was great and all our food was delicious. We had the bbq platter for two which comes with their house-smoked ribs made from local pork, roasted chicken which was locally sourced & free-range, collard greens, blackeye peas, coleslaw, house-smoked pulled pork & housemade sweet pickles. Everything on the platter was excellent! We shared a dessert of molten chocolate cake which was topped with housemade coconut icecream and a passionfruit caramel sauce, this also was delish. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Biltmore estate and we enjoyed this meal far more than the bbq we had at a highly rated, well-known bbq place in Asheville. Kudos to the kitchen & waitstaff here for the quality of food & service.
(4)Trevor L.
Local cuisine featured, great casual food, and free refills. Prices for the food were not cheap, but the quality of the food was exceptional. We mentioned that my wife was from North Carolina and had not visited for 30 years. The waitress was efficient and gave discrete service. To finish off the meal we received a dessert sampler platter to welcome my wife back to the Biltmore. Great atmosphere and friendly staff, Thank you for making our visit so amazing.
(5)Lia L.
Count your change. Four in my party got the exact meal and paid separately. Each of us was shorted the same amount on our change back - no small amount either. We inquired at the host desk and were treated with indifference and a bit of indignation. Bad ending to a nice meal. $14.45 for a tomato sandwich with a small side of pasta salad. Prices are high, especially when staff is pocketing the change.
(1)Ashley S.
I have eaten here several times and never had less than 5 star experience. The food is so delicious and unique. Today, we ordered the sampler, feast for two. The sides change with the season. It came with half a smoked chicken, a huge helping of pulled bbq, half a rack of bbq ribs, Cole slaw, pamento cheese grits and collard greens. All of the meats were delicious bur I want to rave on the sides. Typically, I am not a fan of collard greens. Being from the south, I've had them cooked in almost every delicious way imaginable l, yet they never made an impression on me. The collards at the stable were so amazing. They were crisp, not a juicy, slimy mush. The taste was put of this world. The pamento cheese grits were think, like stone grist grits. We look forward to eating here every time we come.
(5)Stephanie K.
This place was pretty good, but the menu is a little limited and the prices are a little high. I suppose that's to be expected when you're dining at the Biltmore Estate. The Cafe itself is nice and relaxing after a walking tour through the mansion. It was cool and refreshing in the restaurant, and the layout in the old mansion stables was really interesting. It was very crowded, it seemed like almost every table was full, but we were seated quickly. By the time we were leaving I saw people with buzzers waiting for tables. My husband ordered the Bison burger, and I ordered the Shrimp & Grits. Both plates had adequate, but not generous, portions. We both cleaned our plates. They were both good, but we agreed that the shrimp & grits was the better of the two. it was nice and spicy, but maybe a little heavy for a July afternoon.
(3)Laura B.
So very delicious and charming and rustic. Party of 3 ... 2 ordered the French dip sandwich with fries (one asked to substitute the mashed potatoes, no problem!). One ordered the rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, and veggies. Perfect seasoning, tastes like Sunday lunch in the South :) Waitress (Maggie) was adorable and oh so friendly and efficient. Not cheap, which was fine, but we didn't mind paying at all for such a lovely experience.
(5)Alfredo H.
We had a group of 7 for dinner and we were all disappointed with the food, all of the dishes came out cold. The steaks were poor in quality and all I can say is that there was not a good dish at all there.
(2)Sandy S.
Lunch was fine although nothing special. I thought the black bean and tomato soup was delicious, the side salad just OK. Others in our group enjoyed the NC pork BBQ, the brisket, and the bison burger. All a bit overpriced, but what you'd expect. Service was prompt, helpful, and friendly.
(3)Bill B.
This restaurant simply added on to an already amazing day spent at the biltmore estate. The setting was nifty, as the restaurant was in a refurbished barn, still with stalls, original brick floor, and big wooden doors. Our server was very friendly and the service itself was excellent on what looked like a busy day. The food was beyond words. Our party, respectively, had the quiche of the day with a salad, the tomato black bean soup and a barbecue sandwich, and the quinoa and kale salad with grilled salmon. The overall experience was fantastic, and we would recommend it to anyone and everyone who finds themselves hungry on a long day at the biltmore.
(5)Chris H.
This is the 4th time I've eaten here over the years and this place never disappoints. I had the bbq sampler and everything on the plate never had a chance. I tore through that tender smokey meat like a chainsaw through butter. It was so tasty that I almost chewed the finger off my waitress that tried to remove my plate before I licked it...Ok, that last part was a slight exaggeration. Even the damn pickles were bootylicioius! The salad was fresh and delightful. The ambiance was pretty cool too. I think this place is really resonable priced so bypass the standard pizza etc in the square and saddle on up to the stable cafe y'all.
(4)JC G.
Fully packed when we went there on a Saturday but surprisingly service was swift. The bison burger wasn't gamey as I thought and actually tasted like beef. The chicken salad, served in a croissant, lacked something...some sweetness perhaps (i.e., needs some sweet pickle relish)? If you're not too hungry & on a budget, wait & eat somewhere outside the estate.
(3)Parson H.
I enjoyed the experience mostly. My dinner mates loved everything they had. I got the lamb chops and as someone who cooks lamb I wasn't impressed. Then again I asked for it well done, but I cook this meat all the time well done with no problems of juicy, tender (sear first then low heat people). I just didn't feel like there was enough meat there. Everything else on my plate was good. The mushroom potato soup was okay. I think the consistency through me off. My chocolate tart was pretty good. As I said before the experience of eating there made the place and I always appreciate when food is seasoned well. For the price which was kind of up there, it was just okay.

This is a great place to eat when you are at the Biltmore Estate. We were seated near the open kitchen and the place was slammed. The cooks were all working very hard and quite good at what they were doing. We were so surprised to get great food fully prepared on site, instead of the usual theme park frozen fare. I got the Carolina sampler, the greens were really really good, the BBQ was quite nice, and the Chicken was very home made tasting, much more like home baked chicken than typical rotisserie style. The desserts are really not something to skip, I had the carrot cake, and my companion had the strawberry shortcake, neither of which are what you would have expected. The carrot cake was served in a jar, layered with mascarpone cheese with a type of mango reduction, very yummy. The shortcake was not shortcake but thin pastries, with creme and strawberries and a basil gelee. The second surprise after the food, was the check. Quite reasonable.
(5)Jeff H.
Good food. Aforementioned difficulties with handicap access due to cobblestone paving.
(4)Hilda S.
Food quality a zero. Hot sandwiches cold and bacon is like rubber. Chicken leg dinner was awful and greasy for not being fried. Coffee was good though. Would I eat there again. No. Would I recommend it to family and friends. No.
(1)Jim E.
It hurts to only give 3-stars....the place really deserves more. But I have to be honest, our server had a DOH moment at the end of our meal and forgot to bring our receipt for probably close to 20-30 minutes. We couldn't flag him down to ask for it either, because he wasn't anywhere around while we were waiting...and the few times he did come by he was completely oblivious to us. When we finally were able to flag him down he apologized profusely, he honestly thought he had brought the receipt and we were just there enjoying the end of the meal. Except for that closing....everything else was fantastic. We were there for a quick lunch on Thanksgiving day (so now you can understand why waiting forever knocked some stars off) and very thankful to find a place where we could eat! Because of the holiday they were offering a Thanksgiving turkey meal....and we can't get enough of that! Waiter was perfect until the end, food was exceptional, wine was delightful. Just so you know, we didn't knock anything off the tip....it really was that good.
(3)Craig M.
Went there prior to taking a tour of the Biltmore and it wasn't bad but for the money you're spending it should be better. Very Nice wait staff.
(3)Andrew H.
This is a pretty great place. It's also a pretty expensive place. If you're OK with spending $17+tip on a burger and fries, I guarantee that you will enjoy your time here. We came here for lunch and were seated almost immediately. In general, service is both nice and prompt. The menu is small and focused and everything here looks and tastes great. My family ordered the 2 Bison Burgers (one medium rare, one medium well), the beef stew, and a chicken salad. All were beautiful, delicious, and portioned appropriately for lunch. If you've ever been to a theme park, you probably know about tourist traps, but unlike those places, this one has more history to it (you're eating in the real stables) and the quality of the food is higher!
(4)Carlo B.
Had lunch with my family at the Stable Cafe. It was by far the best experience I had while staying in the Asheville / Lake Lure area. Service was beyond expectations and befitted the Biltmore Estate. Started with the tomato soup with red pepper which was delicious. Also had the homemade chicken salad on a freshly baked croissant. If your visiting the Biltmore Estate the Stable Cafe should be a lunch stop. Thank you to the staff for a great experience!
(5)Kenny V.
Great spot for lunch if you're visiting the Biltmore. The historically retrofitted horse stable that is the seating area tickles my fancy. The food is normally very good, but I visited recently during the holidays and found the quality to have declined. I'd bet it had something to do with the huge volume of people visiting, but that's no excuse for dry chicken. Minus one star for that.
(4)Madeline A.
The Chickpea Fritter Wrap can be made vegan. I also ordered the hummus appetizer. All was super delicious! Service was friendly, but a tad slow.
(4)Jim L.
The J/J Burger Tour was back in action on March 30 at Biltmore(Pretty cool house. Needs some pressure washing.). Stopped over at the Stables Cafe'. Real impressive place. This place was created from the actual stables at Biltmore. They even have the iron gates used at the stables in front of the booths. Great menu, too. So I got the Heritage Bison Burger. 10oz. burger, cooked medium. It was great. They really know how to do a burger at this place. Juicy, yummy, and covered in white cheddar, with all the fixins. Sweet potato fries, too, which were good. Someone else ordered the bbq plate which had great pulled pork and fantastic fries. Very much recommend this place when you visit Biltmore. Enjoy the pics.
(4)L M.
Yes its menu is limited (we were there for lunch) but it was fine for that - One of the plus factors is that is right next door to the mansion, so if you have a tour scheduled at a certain time it is easy to get to. All the other eateries next to the mansion are only fast food (coffee/bakery/hamburgers/etc.) It's also in the same building as several tourist souviner shops, if you are into that. You should make reservations - which apparently don't guarantee a table for lunch but is more like "Call ahead" Our service was decent - no long waits for table or food or check - but I imagine at peak vacation time it would be difficult, since it's the only real eatery next to the mansion. Of course the history made it interesting, as it is a renovated large stable that was used for the horses belonging to the Biltmore houseguests - they even have tables in what were the individual horse stalls (no, no horsie smells left) The expanse of the large room with incredible structural detail makes it easy to imagine stablehands scurrying around preparing the horses for the guests' morning ride...

This is a nice spot for a nice lunch break while visiting the Estate. We toured the house, stopped here for lunch, then continued to the gardens. We came in around 2:30 PM and there was no wait. Our server was very nice and attentive. The venue is very interesting. We were sitting in a booth that used to be a horse stall. Everything came out quickly and we were there for less than an hour. It was a nice air conditioned break . I enjoyed a Heritage burger which was surprisingly good and my husband had the BBQ sampler which he enjoyed as well. The warm pimento cheese spread to start was very good too. I really liked the lemonade that they serve here, it may not be fresh squeezed but it's definitely not fountain lemonade. The dessert sampler was nicely presented and very tasty. Expect to pay tourist prices.
(4)Kenny R.
My wife and I ate here after our tour. Quite a unique place, and the food was delicious! We had the Bison burger and chicken salad sandwich, and enjoyed both! The service was good in spite of it being extremely busy. The wait to get in was about 15-20 minutes.
(4)Patricia R.
I love good food and do not mind paying for it. Unfortunately tonight we paid for food that was not worth it. This was one of the most visually unappealing mealsI have ever had. I had the pork and it looked like a plate of brown leftovers. My husband had their sausage with risotto that was just as visually unappealing. He said the sausage was like nothing he.had ever treated before. We should have gone to Topelo Honey in Asheville instead.
(1)Joe M.
Really great place! Had a BBQ Special and got to try three different things at once... what a treat. And you can't beat the location :-)
(5)Kyle B.
I finally got the chance to visit and tour the Biltmore estate, and it was a wonderful experience. This great little restaurant is located in a small food/shop area right outside of the exit of the house tour. I am pretty sure the restaurant is in the original horse stables for the estate. The food was surprisingly good. I usually don't put a lot of high expectations into tourist attraction dining, but this place pretty far exceeded my expectations. They had a rather small but interesting menu. I felt the prices were fair for the setting and quality delivered. I had the Sausage Ruben which was spicy but had a wonderful flavor and a side of fries. All and all this is nice restaurant with a great ambiance after the tour of this amazing estate. Do yourself a favor and visit this wonderful place!
(4)Ben M.
Loved this place. Such a great experience. 4/5 Here's why: Ambiance: How can you beat eating in the former stables of George Vanderbilt? For horse stables, they were quite nice with brick flooring. Service: We came in the middle of lunch rush, but even so our waiter gave us a great experience by answering our questions about the history, checking on us frequently, and keeping our drinks full. Food: My wife had a "side" salad and the potato soup. They were huge portions. The salad was very fresh and the potato soup was by far the best potato soup I've ever had. I had a classic burger and fries. The ingredients were nice and fresh on a good bun. I was slightly disappointed that they don't cook burgers to order. The burger was well done and I prefer medium-rare to rare. Even so, the meat was good and flavorful. Nicely done guys
(4)Beth C.
Deeeeeeeelicious!! It was a Saturday afternoon in May and we STILL got in in under 10minutes (it was exactly lunch time as well, like 12:30). We expected to wander all the shops! Nope, we buzzed right away and went upstairs-- very cool loft vibe as you're in the stables. love the wood ceiling. And it's still bright! Soup of the day was red pepper tomato...it was amazing! However, we also got the standard vegetable lentil and I personally preferred it!! Both worth getting again though. I got the bean veggie burger- one of the best. I ended up getting regular fries instead of sweet potato after I saw someone else's and didn't regret that decision! Turkey sandwich was great (or so I was told). Oh, I also ordered the wine flight... 3 wines (generous pours) for 13.95. Just do it! You're on vacation, right? :) Funny thing is that Biltmore's wine is from Alexander Valley, CA (basically south Sonoma County) and I had just been there in March.... I would 100% recommend and return if my life brought me back to the Biltmore :)
(5)Michelle Kei T.
Thank you for having dine in style for our anniversary. The staff and food were excellent and amazing! Ever moment and bite was done with great care. Thank you for making our evening/anniversary extra special.
(5)Eileen W.
I've eaten here several times and the food is generally pretty good. But, the service was not that good. I do love the location and the atmosphere of the restaurant though.
(4)Sanjay P.
Great service. Historic charm - it's located in the Biltmore estate , used to be a stable. Food was mostly southern , was very good. Not too expensive. From a food standpoint not one of the trip highlights but the historic charm made up for it. Probably may not repeat.
(4)Jennah R.
There was surprisingly NO Southern Hospitality or Christmas spirit at the Stable Cafe. We were "greeted" by the hostess who didn't even bother to look up as we walked in, she was a woman probably in her 50s, who just mumbled "go upstairs" and didn't even point us in the direction to go. So we went up stairs. The man who sat us dropped our menus on the table and walked away before we even got to the table. We were seated upstairs, in the middle of the restaurant, which was surprising because I made the reservations more than a month before and asked for a stall. After I asked to move and told the manager about my reservation and reminded him it was also my husbands birthday he brought us downstairs to a better table. Our waitress, Christine, was super nice and helpful. Apparently no one told her I called in advance and asked for a birthday cake or decorated dessert because it was never brought to the table. When I told Christine about it, it would have been nice if a manager would have at least stopped by our table to apologize. Obviously the Christmas spirit was lacking, as we watched countless servers yawning as they walked by, stop and lay their head in their hands at the hostess stand, and role their eyes as they walked away from tables. On the brighter side our waitress and food was great and the atmosphere and decor were beautiful. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking for a "special" evening. They need to get their stuff together, seriously. When visiting the Biltmore and paying those prices the service should be top notch and it didn't come close.
(1)Shino O.
I didn't expect much from this tourist destination, so I was pleasantly surprised when my chicken pot pie was full of nice oregano flavor, and the camomile tea was a quality kind, and my husby's pulled-pork burger had flavorful smokey aroma to it. Service was professional and attentive too, excellent I would say, considering the crazy busy lunch time. Only disappointment was the wait-list system. They had us hold on to the beeping device, and after we were called back, we still had to wait another 10 more minutes until our table was made. This restaurant is the last destination of Biltmore Estate tour, so, if you have a plan to visit here, it is best to avoid regular lunch time. We began our tour at 10am, and it ended like 2 pm, on Friday, and the restaurant was still absolutely packed.
(3)Elizabeth F.
Service was good and the food was fine. You're paying for the convenience of being near the Biltmore house and the atmospheres- which is really cool. There are better places to eat in Asheville, but this is good if you want to stay on the estate.
(3)Eileen S.
Excellent service. Nice environment. Great sandwiches.
(4)Lynn S.
This is a great little place to have lunch if you want to sit down to a meal. The atmosphere is casual, the service is fast and the food is good. I ordered the Sampler plate. Although I knew it would be too much food I wanted to taste the collard greens and pimento cheese grits. These are things you just can't get in Los Angeles. The plate also came with pulled pork, ribs and chicken. All were great and perfectly cooked!
(4)Kevin B.
Service was quite good despite our waitress having too many tables. I had the rotisserie chicken which was very good, remarkable? No but very satisfying and most importantly not dry. Also the baked potato soup was pretty damn yummy. I'd say the prices are a tad high but certainly not unreasonable. My friend had a chicken salad sandwich that I have to say I was quite jealous of! It was quite delicious and if I ever go back I'm definitely getting that.
(4)Jonathan Y.
Arrived at 6 p.m. on a Thursday night without a reservation. The hostess first asked us if we had a reservation. When we said no, she replied "No problem. We can get you in. Have you eaten here before?" When I told her that we had not, she led us to a posted menu & explained to us that sometimes, people don't like the kind of food that they serve (a true 3-course meal) or the prices, so she wanted to make sure that we knew what we were getting. She then answered a few of my wife's questions. The hostess was very knowledgable about the options, so we figured we'd give it a try. Getting seated was a small problem. The person seating customers was a bit overwhelmed with a full house, but fortunately, another waitress was able to step in & seat us. The first course was ok, but I am a picky eater. I had the potato bisque, and my wife had the creamed brussel sprouts. For the main course, I ordered the ribeye ($44) and my wife ordered the half chicken ($36). While my steak was very tasty, it was not a $44 steak. On the other hand, my wife's chicken was worth every penny. It was quite possibly the best roasted chicken I have ever had! For dessert, I had a chocolate tart (I can't remember what it was called) and my wife had a bread pudding. Dessert was tasty, but nothing spectacular. As we were leaving the restaurant after dinner, the hostess made sure that we enjoyed our dinner. It wasn't the usual cliche "Was everything ok?" that is a staple at restaurants. She genuinely wanted to make sure we enjoyed our dinner. This is a restaurant where you are offered a choice of 3 first courses, choice of 5-7 main courses, and a choice of 3 desserts. I would have been a little aggravated about not receiving my money's worth from the steak, but I knew that a portion of the proceeds of my dinner were being used to keep the Biltmore house open, so it wasn't a big deal. Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
(5)Matthew W.
Atmosphere seemed nice. Unfortunately, seated by the kitchen even though the restaurant was fairly empty at 7:30pm. Menu was uninspired. Chicken was dry. Our waitress was obviously doing something else, because she certainly was not taking care of us. Disappointed. Especially since the candlelight tour was so nice.

very , very tasty! i was here at biltmore on my quest for 50 states tour and stopped by here for some lunch. i got a roasted vegetable dip with tortilla chips and the sampler. both were delicious. service was excellente. waitstaff and hostess were very attentive and friendly the ambiance was very interesting. so basically this is an old horse stable which they turned into the current eatery. we sat upstairs and it was very nice :)

I adore the Stable Cafe on Biltmore Estate. Every time I'm in Asheville, I try to swing by here for a fantastic lunch (I'm a Biltmore Estate Passholder). The Stable Cafe is an extremely unique dining experience. The cafe is located in George Vanderbilt's stable that he had built for his prized horses in 1895. The historic feel of this restaurant is overwhelming. Ask for a booth located in one for the former horse stalls. Their veggie burger is absolutely the best burger I have ever had. The meat eaters in my group were even fans on this delicious and hearty meatless burger. Try their fantastic red wine sangria! It is perfection! The service was excellent. The hostess and waitresses were very friendly and attentive. It was quite loud, but keep in mind the restaurant is located in a stable from the 19th century.

Good food, fun stable booths to sit in! Pretty pricey though.

For a restaurant attached to a tourist attraction this was an amazing lunch. The setting is the magnificent "Stables" of the house so the ambiance is amazing. We had to wait about 30 minutes but there was alot to stroll around and see while we waited; a gift shop and a book store. We got the sampler platter for 2 and it fed 3 with food leftover. Service was prompt and enthusiastic. We were sorry we couldn't try the dessert sampler platter; what a cool idea. After lunch we toured the house and then treated ourselves to a GIANT ice cream cone at The Creamery (another 5). Be sure to eat here when visiting the Biltmore.

We stopped in for an early lunch. Lucky for us, we managed to beat the crowd, because there was a lot of people lined up waiting on our way out. The cafe is located at the end of the stable area beside Biltmore House. It's an amazing transformation of the 19th-century stable into a fascinating café where you actually dine in renovated horse stalls. We were in a "stall" with 2 other small tables. We didn't have high expectations for the cafe, but we were very surprised. Our server Charlotte was amazing. I wanted to get soup and half salad entree. When I hesitated between the summer squash bisque and the white Bean and kale soup, she was kind enough to bring a sample of both for me to try. The squash bisque was the hands down winner. Also, I got the chicken salad was was very good. BJ had Herb Roasted Rotisserie Chicken with mashed potatoes & seasonal veggies. I sampled it, it was very good. We also loved the delicious corn bread. Charlotte recommend the pumpkin cheese cake for dessert and we couldn't pass it up. It was so good, the crust was made from ginger snaps and the cheese cake was very light. We loved it. Our meal was great!

By far the best overall southern meal I've ever had (and I'm from Texas) The environment is unique as it is in the renovated original stables and the service is fast and friendly. I ordered the sampler and was very pleased. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful and the rotissery chicken was juicy and spiced perfectly. The dry-rub ribs were good as well, although I've ,,,,had better back home. What set my meal apart was the grits or polenta that was made perfectly (creamy even texture with subtle flavors) as well as the collard greens that surpass any I've ever had. The cole slaw wasn't rememberable but the home made pickles were sweet and spicy with the perfect crunch. Idk when I'll be back in Asheville, but if ever I find myself here the Stable Cafe will definitely be a stop for me.

Ordered fried green tomatoes as our appetizer. Three small slices on a platter with an aioli sauce -- it was good but could have been warmer. I ordered the half rotisserie chicken plate. The chicken was moist and flavorful, and the seasoning was lovely. The red-skinned mashed potatoes were a little on the moist side but very good. I had a glass of house Pinot Grigio, which was very good. My husband ordered the sampler platter -- a bit of chicken, pulled pork, ribs, collard greens. Roasted sweet potatoes an "a few other things that I don't remember." he said it was just okay and not very memorable. We got in before the crowd, so we were able to sit in one of the stalls (booths).

Had the three course dinner. Delicious and loved atmosphere

Amazing BBQ, friendly waitress, very cool scene - our table was a stable. Kids loved it!

I love this place. It's right next to the house, so you can have a nice lunch. The food is always exquisite. It is only open for lunch. Priced medium I would say, but you feel you get what you pay for.

My mother and I had finally finished our four-hour tour of the House (which I'd highly recommend with audio) so we were just about famished. We just made it before they shut down for the hour turnaround for dinner, and I'm so glad that we did. What a beautiful setting for a meal! I don't think it's at all weird to eat in a stable. I think it's an unusual but brilliant experience. Even if we visitors are simply dining where the horses did, it was a rare occasion to to be able to do so. Some stables are still intact (I assume they're original) and nicely maintained. The open floorplan with high ceilings and natural light add to the ambiance of your dining experience. The meal was the first real meal for us in NC. And it didn't disappoint. The peppercorn (?) cornbread was nice (though I did have better in Asheville--12 Bones!) and the cocktails even better. To get the full 'cue experience, we ordered the Sampler for Two. Chicken, ribs, pulled pork, spoon bread, collard greens, and slaw. Nice. I'd have ordered the pork on its own with the greens and slaw. The sour pickles were a nice bonus. We were filled to the brim with leftovers to spare. Yes, the portions were more than generous. Service was prompt and courteous. The setting ideal. A perfect cap to a very nice day at Biltmore. And don't forget to check out the shops down the hallway. Some fun souvenirs and beautiful jewelry! Oh, and don't get me started on the orange sherbet and butter pecan ice cream at the store in the courtyard. Cue drool.

I've eaten lunch here during the last two trips to the Biltmore Estate. I'm an early eater so have never had to wait for a table, being right in line when they've opened at 11am. The stables provide an interesting location for a restaurant, and certainly fits right in with the whole Biltmore experience. On this most recent visit, I had the Bison burger (first time eating Bison), and polished that whole thing off in what seemed like two minutes. It was incredible. The service was friendly and prompt overall, though again it wasn't packed so I don't know how they do in that type of situation. If I had one "complaint" (and others have mentioned it), the price is - as you would expect - a little bit elevated for what you get. However, being on-site at the Biltmore, I'm almost surprised they don't try to gouge people a little bit more! All in all, I remain pretty impressed with the Stable Cafe.

I don't really have much to say about this place. I went for lunch today. I had the Sweet Tea Chicken Salad. The greens were so fresh tasting. I really liked the pecans on it. My only complaint about the salad was the dressing. I was hoping it would be a little stronger tasting. I was going to give 3 stars, but the drink I ordered gave the extra star. They had a white peach sangria on special. It was soooooo yummy!

The Stable Cafe is okay. Not great. The menu is pretty diverse...and no matter how hungry you are there will be something that you will want to experience. The hamburger is pretty great...as is whatever soup they are serving. The fact that you are eating in the Biltmore House is pretty cool...even if it is in the stable. It is kind of an attraction dining location rather than good food. I would honestly recommend that you save your money and go to the buffet at Deerpark. Get a snack at the Stable and save your appetite for the delicious food on the other side of the Estate. It's worth the wait.

The food at the Stable Cafe is good, although I prefer The Deerpark Restaurant and think its buffet is a much better value if I'm going to eat at The Biltmore. The care and effort they put into using ingredients from the Estate is admirable. It is a little weird to think you're eating where the horses were kept, but I guess it adds to The Biltmore experience. I would like to let Yelpers know there are TWO parts to the Stable Cafe with two separate hostess stands, one upstairs and one downstairs. We first checked in at the downstairs hostess stand and was told there was an hour wait - while it was snowing outside! After someone kindly tipped us off to the upstairs location (another visitor, NOT a Biltmore employeee), we were seated immediately upstairs. I have no idea why The Biltmore doesn't share that information! It was COLD, too, at the upstairs Cafe when we ate there last November, but considering that it was snowing outside, we were thrilled to get into the Cafe to help pass the time as we waited for our entry time.

We decided to eat here because of the unusual setting, not for the food, so we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The chicken salad was suggested to us by the waiter, a friendly gentleman who did not rush us despite the crowded room and the people waiting for tables. He was right, it was the perfect blend of ingredients - very crisp and fresh. We also ordered the sampler with pulled pork that was SO good. The room itself is really bright and airy. Very clean as well. I was expecting it to be a bit more rustic, but loved what I saw. They really did a great job turning a stable into a restaurant. My only complaints - it was a bit pricey (but I do understand it's a tourist attraction) and the wait was fairly long. I don't expect to go back as it was just a quick stop on a long road trip, but if you're in the area, it's worth a visit.

quick service - and pretty good food. very touristy! I even had a sangria for only $7 - it was the best drink on my entire trip to asheville!
(3)Dan B.
Good food, good friendly service. The floors could use a good mopping as they were sticky-feeling under the shoes, the same feeling you get at a dive-bar or fraternity house. Worth eating there though.

One often does not have high expectations for food options at a tourist place like the Biltmore estate, but the food and service here was quite good.

Like most every other reviewer we stopped in to relax and eat after our estate tour. This place looked like the best of the multiple food venues in the courtyard. It is actually in the old stables complete with very fancy horse stalls. They probably thought we might try to escape so after a twenty minute wait they put us into one of these stalls. There are 3-4 tables in each of the stalls that line either side of the great hall sized room. There are also tables outside the individual stalls. The lunch menu is full of interesting sandwiches and salads. We opted for a starter and shared a sandwich. The starter was a plate of four Shrimp and Andouille Hush Puppies with Wild Onion Rémoulade. They were served hot and fast. The taste combination provided an enjoyable diversion from the typical soup and sandwich lunches we have been enjoying. The shared sandwich was a Ham & Pimiento Cheese Grilled Panini served with an ample portion of Southern Potato Salad. This taste treat was more of a grilled ham and cheese than a true panini. It came piled high with thinly sliced honey cured ham and a melted, gooey pimiento cheese. Add a glass of some sweet tea that was never empty, a generous dose of good old southern hospitality and you have the kind of lunch you deserve after a long walk through and old house. We were not expecting a whole lot when we ventured into the Stable Cafe. This is a tourist destination after all. The restaurant interior was definitely interesting and when they sat us in an old stall once used for horses, we were amused, but we were most surprised at the wonderful service and food we enjoyed. I ordered the Apricot Chicken Salad Croissant, which came with Southern Potato Salad. My wife had their special of the day--an artichoke quiche with a green salad with honey mustard vinaigrette dressing. Both dishes were not just OK, they were wonderful. I tasted my wife's quiche and it was as light tasting filling and as flaky crust as I've ever had. My apricot chicken salad had a perfect blend of flavors. Our very nice server even got me a bag of ice to keep my leftovers cool. The price was a tad high, tho not for a tourist area, but the attention to detail and high quality and freshness of the food was truly noteworthy.

Don't waste the money if you want anything other than a unique atmosphere. The food was sub par at best. Service was very rushed due to the crowd. We had a couple of special requests. Both of these were incorrect. The fritters had no flavor. They were supposed to have meat in them, but we have yet to find it.

While it sounds odd to have a restaurant in converted horse stables, I have to say that I have never seen horse stables this nice. Expectations were very low given that this was a restaurant run by and at a tourist trap. However, the hamburger and lamb burger that we had were both excellent. The greens on both were very fresh and not just your typical iceberg lettuce.
(5)Bill B.
You don't come here for the food, this is a high volume tourist trap like all the other Biltmore restaurants. That said, the food was not bad and the service was very good. The place is worth eating in just for the experience of it. Do expect to wait, they hand you a pager so you can shop while you wait.

The Biltmore house is one of the most incredible attractions in Asheville. Thanksgiving weekend is NOT the weekend to visit, however that is Biltmore's house most crowded time. They had to close the entry to general public that day, but luckily we were able to get back in next day. We had lunch at the Estable Cafe. Besides the multiple attractions of Biltmore Mansion which has been attempted to continue in its original condition the restaurants are really nice! Estable cafe, as it's name says it, is located where the stables where. Funny thing is that you are eating your meal where actually the horses were kept and you get to love it. You can see when you enter the Restaurant the metals from box to box. The Floors are also the real Stable thing, very, very attractive. Make sure you leave your name before taking the tour to see the house which takes about two hours and about an hour in the waiting list. Note this was on Thanksgiving weekend one of their busiest time. In your way out make sure you stop at the separate stables since each one is a souvenir shop.

We ate at the Stable Cafe 4-5 times when we had annual passes to the Estate. I have never eaten upstairs bit one family member has. We had the luxury of timing our visits and meals to avoid the busiest times and were always seated promptly. The service was fine and the food was okay. Not spectacular, but we kept going back and would return. The setting is rather unusual.

We were a little worried because usually when you're held captive at an attraction and charged $12.95 for half a chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies, it ends up being a disaster. This place was great! Extremely tasty and the chef obviously took some real time to make sure these dishes made a very positive impression. And our waiter wasn't bothered by my 600 iced tea refills I requested and my psychotic amount of Nutrasweet I wanted for the tea. It was all smiles. But the food was very good, indeed. Staff at the front were very smiley and friendly. Next time we come to Biltmore, we will surely eat here again. Worth a couple extra bucks to have a sit down meal in here rather than eat junk at a cafe table outside. Excellent chicken as I mentioned above.

After the Biltmore mansion and walking around the gardens and down to the bass pond, were famished. Got into the downstairs portion with no wait. Waitress very friendly and efficient. Excellent cornbread, kale and white bean soup and BBQ pulled pork.
