As my mother says of this place, it is a "hole in the wall". Yeah pretty much. This is a locals favorite diner just north of town. We came early for breakfast and they were not very crowded. The restaurant itself is pretty old, yet with a lot of local artwork and such. Service was very friendly. This visit I ordered pancakes and sausage and was pretty disappointed. The pancakes were a bit stiff and chewy, almost like they were pre-made and reheated. Just yuck. The sausage patties were pretty good though. But overall I think the Breakfast Nook is a better bet for morning grub in Albemarle. But unlike the Nook, Hal's is open for lunch. I can't offer a lunch review at this time. But probably the best part... when you walk out you'll discover that the floors are a bit uneven. It really feels like you've had too much to drink on your way out. Whooah, what did they put in those pancakes, yikes!
