We had an awesome dinner. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. The staff was super attentive and the sommelier was super knowledgeable. For was great. Loved all the flavors.

some were great other interesting, a few questionable but everything enjoyable and way above montana average. i m used to new york speed where you get your order before you finish ordering.......here it was slow, painfully slow. over an hour for the rack of lamb....and of course when the lamb arrives, it is so gorgeous that you forget, forgive and smile. service polite even gregarious some time it felt they were babysitting the clients. over all a great dinner. 5 stars for the food

Horrible service, even worse atmosphere (seriously - this place is a dump), amazing food. Why would this chef put up with his management's lack of investment in their part of the deal? Won't go back. Hope the chef comes downtown where his food can be the star of the show in an environment fit for it!

It was good but not great and did not live up to the hype. We had a better meal at the Boat Club in Whitefish. On the mountain, there are not many choices. Try this place but don't expect to be "wowed". I have had better meals mountain dining at Vail and Aspen and in Utah. And don't waste your money on the Chef's Menu. Stick with ala carte.

Having visited many Michelin rated restaurants in France, this would rate at least a 2*. Excellent preparation and service.

Fabulous dinner! Service was attentive (perhaps because we were the only table for most of the meal?). Food was top notch. Started with fiddlehead fern appetizer, mopped up all the yummy sauce. Next up, perfectly dressed salad of bib lettuce. Main courses of short ribs and will paired perfectly with a decanted bottle of Line Calodo's Outer Limits. Yummo!

Amazing food, terrible service describes this place in a nutshell. We were told by the locals that this was THE place to go in Whitefish, so naturally we had to try it out. The service up until the coat check area was great. We got our coats hung and were guided to our table. We rec'd our drinks, which were slightly watered down and our white wine was almost room temperature. We got over that and decided to order. One member of our group had a dietary restriction and needed to switch out the starchy side dish for some veggies. The server looked at him as if he had 3 heads and stated that "the Chef would not like for us to change the dish because he combines everything 'just so.'" However, after some haggling our dinner friend got his veggies. The most delicious warm bread was brought out with little ramekins of infused olive oil. It was delicious, however some people wanted the option of vinegar as well as oil. When we asked for it, we were once again chastised by our server, "The olive oil is infused and is good without. The Chef likes everyone to try it as is." Oooookaaayyy...... As if this wasn't bad enough, we rec'd the most delicious Sadddlefish soup which was great but missing a little something. Another member of our group DARED to ask for some crushed pepper, in which the server replied,"Well....we usually don't offer it, for the Chef feels that everything is perfect the way it is." At this point we wanted to tell the chef what he could do with his food, however, we suffered on..... But we all made a deal: If the waiter mentioned "the Chef," one more time, we were out of there. The vanilla creme brulee was perfectly delicious. The custard was great at room temperature, and the sugary crust was burned to perfection. Overall the food was lovely, but the pretentiousness of the Chef and his staff leaved much to be desired. I live in NYC where I've dined with the best of the best and I've never experienced such service. I'm not sure if I'll be back but I know next time, I will eat looking straight-forward and not ask any questions!

We enjoyed the chef's tasting menu with wine parings, and appreciated the great service and their willingness to accommodate the menu for a pesco-vegetarian diet. Unfortunately they misunderstood our request to have only my menu be altered, so my husband missed out on some of their meat dishes. However, when we explained the mix up they still gave him the Kobe beef as an entrée course which we really appreciated. It was quality food and cozy but elegant ambiance, but still slightly overpriced; if we return we will likely order ala carte. I recommend the halibut and the mushrooms.

Impressive wine list, excellent service, and incredible food. The dining room is very small and doesn't have quite the ambiance you would expect in a world-class restaurant, but the food more than makes up for that. Since there are so few tables, definitely make a reservation in advance. I only had shared a first course (forest mushrooms) and a full entree (elk roulade), but look forward to eventually coming back for the 5-course dinner.

One of the best meals I've EVER had. We were skiing at Whitefish near the end of the season last winter (2011), and made a reservation for 2 at this outstanding restaurant conveniently located in the Whitefish Resort. We both opted for the Chef's 5-course tasting menu with wine pairings for each course. Everything was absolutely outstanding - service, food, and wine. We will definitely be making reservations here next time we are in Whitefish.

The best meals I have EVER had. Chef Andy Blanton's food is second to none! I have had the "Grand Degustation" tasting menu 5 times over the last couple years and it is absolutely awesome each and every time. The wine pairing is great as well. I don't eat like this very often and save up, so it is a big treat for me when I get the chance to get to Whitefish. I love the fact that the dining room is cozy and comfortable, not pretentious. You can be yourself, whether it be after a day on the hill in the winter, or a day at the lake in the summer. The wait staff were very personable. If you are looking for an absolutely fantastic meal, make sure to dine here!

I live in Whitefish and have eaten at Kandahar 3 times and have held a rehearsal dinner there. The experience has been the same every time. Food is fantastic though overpriced for the area. Every time we visit, including for the after rehearsal dinner, the staff presents a wine list (pricey) and delays dinner so as to take advantage of the cost of happy hour. I have never been made to feel appreciated or even welcomed there. Instead the staff makes you feel as if they are doing you a favor by serving you. The last time I visited I walked out because the service was so poor. I will not return.

Was staying in a condo within walking distance of Cafe Kandahar at Whitefish Mountain Resort. After checking in last night (Saturday) late, we asked where to go for dinner as we didn't want to drive to Whitefish after driving all afternoon. The gentleman where we checked in said to eat at Cafe Kandahar and that they had a good menu at the bar. Drinks and dinner at the bar were amazing and the service by Jeffery at the bar was Second to none. And he recommended eating at the restaurant while we were staying there. Had Dinner tonight at Cafe Kandahar and it was amazing. Was celebrating a anniversary and was treated like royalty. Service was very personal without being over bearing. 5 Stars! I saw 3 main wait staff, 3 support staff and 12 tables. Food, Hmmmm....AMAZING. Everything consumed was, wait.....AMAZING. 5 Star all the way. They have a very extensive wine list with wines from all over the world. If ever in Whitefish, MT and want a great meal and don't mind spending a little extra coin, please do yourself a favor and have dinner at Cafe Kandahar. You will not be sorry. Make sure to call in advance for reservations as there is limited seating. I travel for a living and have eaten at a lot of places all over the country and I have to say that this was the most memorable meal consumed in my life. Sean

I have to start by saying the food was superior. Everything was truly delicious. The flavors and textures were interesting with some real subtle complexities and yet not over the top. We were a group of 8 and each of us took a taste of each others with the same fascination and enjoyment of how nicely the food was prepared and presented. Now the reason for the only 3 stars....the wait staff was so ridiculously pretentious it put a damper on our dining experience. When we first sat down we were given a drink menu. When no one opted for a pre-dinner drink the waiter swiftly grabbed the menus back and handed out the dinner menus. We clearly annoyed him by wasting his time reading the menu without ordering. We were then presented with the dinner menus. We asked if there was a wine list which was met with surprise and distain from the waiter. I guess he didn't think we should be served wine if we didn't have a pre-dinner drink. Once we ordered our wine we reviewed the menu which as mentioned early, had some interesting items and flavors some of which we were not familiar with so we asked. WRONG! Do NOT ask the wait staff about what a menu item is or how it is prepared. He spoke down to us with a air of complete superiority and disgust. When the food arrived the waiter placed the plate down and recited in detail what we ordered as if maybe we didn't remember or wouldn't recognize it. When the bill was presented the waiter announced that it is restaurant policy that parties of 6 or more have a 20% gratuity added. It wasn't until we all returned to our condo later that evening that we all recalled the menu clearly states 18% gratuity. We all agreed the food was wonderful but we would not come back and we would not recommend it to anyone we know.

Absolutely FANTASTIC. My husband and I were in the Whitefish/Glacier National Park area for several days and this was - without comparison- the standout meal of the trip. Elk Roulade with local Flathead Valley cherries, and Escargot in an addictingly tangy/zesty preparation, were divine. The wine steward pointed us to a heavenly red that complemented everything we ate. Give your server a 20-minute heads up for the ultra-gooey delicious chocolate desert - it's well worth the extra prep time. We're from Seattle where we have no shortage of outstanding cuisine, yet this dinner at Cafe Kandahar in western Montana was my most excellent meal in recent memory. Go, go, go! - support an awesome young chef, venture into local Montana flavors and let your palate be amazed.

It doesn't get any better than this. The food is creative, local, and delicious. Service is professional and friendly at the same time. Courses are perfectly timed. You are not just a number. Dinner is an experience here. I'm plotting my return.
