The Old Post is an excellent choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu is extremely large so regardless of what you're craving, there's a good chance they'll be able to provide you with plenty of options. I've never had a bad meal here. The service is usually top notch and the employees seem very happy which is always a sign of good management. I recommend trying the buffalo chicken sandwich...

Quick tip: the chili and cornbread is AMAZING and makes for a speedy lunch. You can't beat the price of it either.

Ended up here after dinner and First Friday, as they had a concert going in the parking lot. It was good fun, with reasonably priced drinks and no one was fenced in, which was a huge plus. The patio isn't fantastic, but at least they have one, and it is nice and sheltered.

Weekend brunch was great. Bring a dog and enter from the alley. B tacos and a sammy were delish
(4)Amy S.
The meatloaf was Horrible and NOBODY cared Long wait Hyper-sensitive busgirl/hostess Frozen process potatoes in the veggie plate Good times with my friends though!!

Nice staff, decent prices and the best vegetarian bruschetta I have ever had! Goat cheese, Artichoke, balsamic, garlic and more! To die for. ....I would kill for it. Left a lasting impression.

Have eaten here recently and the food has been consistently good...I'll definitely be returning for more! Their soups are always good and they have different items on their menu you can't find other places in town. As always, the brunch is delicious! I wish they served breakfast on the weekdays!

I used to love the Old Post, but the past three times I have gone (over the course of a year and a half) the servers were not friendly and it took our group of three over an hour to receive our food! I've worked in food service for years and understand when it gets busy it's difficult to get food out, but it wasn't even packed! Absolutely ridiculous for moderate food. I won't be returning any time soon

I love the Old Post! The Pig In The Garden is my favorite, but pretty much everything is excellent. Good caesars, too!
(5)Jess O.
I am just such a sucker for their fish tacos it is hard for me to ever try anything else here. The tacos are lovely and huge. They are two meals for me, especially when I get the blackened fish tacos which are a bit too spicy for me to eat in one fell swoop. Of course the beer selection is great and I enjoy the patio. Be careful where you sit on the patio though. During certain times of the summer, you'll end up with a beer full of detritus from the vines.

I love the Old Post. They have the best veggie burgers in town. They have great specials. It's really good food at a reasonable price. Also, if you ever attend an event at their "grotto" or whatever downstairs it's awesome.

I was terrified by the variety of the menu. Greek, Mexican, American, Asian, who knows what else? But we stuck it out. The drink selection was great, chill atmosphere (a little loud), and the waitress' cute and friendly. We got the nachos for an appetizer. Mistake. They were huge!!! Multiple people could have split them as a meal. I got the spinach feta pie for dinner, and it was very good. Only complaint was that the pita bread that came with it sucked. Dry and stale. My partner got the fish tacos and loved them. *Bottom line: I was very satisfied. I would go back.

A-maz-ing veggie burger. From scratch. On a homemade bun. Get it with the tabuli. You will not be sorry! Even better if you sit out on the back patio on a pretty summer day. Seriously the highlight of my trip to Missoula.
(5)Skylure S.
By far the best buffalo wings in town . I also highly recommend the weekend brunch, the benny's are all good and I also crave the stuffed French toast .
(4)Erin Z.
The quesadilla of the day was really good. Good prices, nice atmosphere - kids welcome.

I've always been a big fan of the Old Post. On a nice summer evening, it is great to sit on the outside patio and enjoy some food and drinks with friends. On a hangover plagued morning, it is great to come here and eat some great brunch. The service has always been good and the prices very reasonable. There are many places like this in town but this one always keeps me coming back.

I had the Cajun Catfish sandwich with the soup of the day, Andouille and Red Bean Soup - $9.95. (Picture also posted). Being from Louisiana I am usually disappointed in anything that claims to be "cajun" on most menus. But I am in the mood for a fish sandwich and I say why not, lets try it. Delicious!!! The food is made with care and attention to detail. Wonderful white flakey catfish fried crispy with a cornmeal batter that was not too thick (often the problem) A crunchy crisp catfish filet nestled in fresh toasted bread with lettuce tomato and pickles just how it should be. The homemade chipotle mayo and green tabasco (on the table) made me feel like I was back home in Louisiana enjoying a catfish po-boy. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their lunch as well which was a Turkey and Brie Panini with Spinach and garlic mayo and a South West Turkey sandwich. The server was very nice although super busy as she was slammed on Christmas eve with only one server. Great job! I will be back, no doubt about it.

We sat outside on a sunny Friday afternoon. Service was friendly too bad these obnoxious A holes were chain smoking at the table nearby, wish the server would have asked them to quiet down. Anyhow, the food was real good. We both got patty melts and their french onion soup, yum. There's always some craft beers on tap from various Montana breweries, we had several. Good spot for a low key lunch or dinner and some drinks. Open face turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes was not good, got that a few weeks later. Burgers are the safest bet. Nothing fancy just a chill spot.

A classic of long standing in Missoula. They appear not to have raised their prices over the course of several presidential administrations. Combine this with the absence of sales tax in Montana and you can eat very reasonably here. It doesn't hit you over the head with the fact that it's an old place, but the sign appears to have been designed before the world wars, and the pressed tin ceiling might be on its third century. There's shiplap under that, high on the wall, that doesn't look a heck of a lot newer. The barback is certainly antique. The beer signs are new--they appear to have been hand-colored with Crayolas by the staff during slow moments in service. Trust me, they're a lot cooler-looking than that description might lead you to believe. The booths are hammered together from rough-hewn cedar. There's a big newer deck outside, made private by arbors and trellises. The whole thing obviously has grown through decades of affectionate patronage by locals and tourists alike. The staff is all right on point, very friendly and at ease, completely in command of everything the place has on the menu and in the bar. The chicken wing specials are delicious, and a steal at $0.25 a wing. The spicy andouille sausage sandwich was toasty with great flavor from the horseradish spread as well as a nicely spiced link. The posole was startlingly good, and the pretzel was a really good effort with decent beer cheese dip. On my way out of town, I grabbed breakfast. OK coffee, great service again, and a tasty scramble. The bread was clearly out of a supermarket-type bag, but had great flavor, and the scramble itself was delicious. The jalapenos added nice counterpoint. I'd definitely hit this place again.

Amazing hot wings and chili! Great selection of draft beer from local breweries. A local favorite! Live music most weekends and good atmosphere. The burgers are good too!
(4)Kate D.
Breakfast was amazing. Had the stuffed french toast and along with 5 other people who ordered, our food arrived surprisingly fast and the place was packed. Will definitely be coming back ;)
(5)Ryan C.
They took the burrito off the menu. WHAT?! What the hell is wrong with you?! The burrito made The Old Post a destination. Now I'm just going to have to settle for the drunken goat salad. A good second but doesn't hold a candle to the burrito. Bring back the burrito and maybe... MAYBE I'll become a faithful customer again.

Last day in Missoula, I tried the Old Post for brunch. A bit bummed we didn't get to sit in the patio area. It was a nice day and I really felt like it would have been perfect. We ordered the Hummus appetizer and I ordered the Surf & Turf Benny. I can honestly say this was a good breakfast for a pub. The Hummus was served on a huge plate edged with Pita bread the size of the plate. It was delicious. On my S&T Benny, the sauce and crab cake were savorous. The potatoes were a bit stale though.
(3)Zelda S.
Bad food and pretty waitresses. I got a burrito and it was disgusto. They call canned crushed tomatoes salsa here. Also the pickles were rancid. Fried banana peppers were good
(2)Chris F.
To be honest, I feel like the Old Post has been slipping of late. When I lived in Missoula up until about a year ago, it was always a great option for a low-key satisfying meal or happy hour. Usually less crowded than other places in town, good food and good service. However went back on a recent visit to town and had a couple of very underwhelming experiences. The service was slower, beer selection/pricing was nothing special, and the food was bland and disappointing. Going to give them another try for brunch soon, which is where I always felt they actually excelled, and hopefully update this review with good news!
(3)Keith L.
Great food (brunch is a Missoula must), live music, great seating, great décor. This is what you go for in a Missoula bar. The patio in the back is fantastic for having a brew on a warm Montana evening.
(5)Rick J.
Food is always excellent, can never decide what to order.
(5)Madeline M.
The food is good old-fashioned greasy bar food, no complaints there - but the service is easily the worst in Missoula. Be prepared for poor/no professionalism and a long wait.
(2)Amanda A.
I wouldn't consider The Old Post to be amazing nor horrible, rather it is the sort of place should enter without expectations. The atmosphere is extremely casual and makes for a great place to meet up with people and enjoy some excellent local brews. They have excellent wings and when its happy hour those wings are what bring in the patrons. I've heard their weekend brunch is fabulous but have yet to experience it myself. This is definitely a hangout for the older undergrad and graduate students. As such you'll often run into someone you know - for better or worse. The tables fill up quickly and if you have a large a group it may take some work and quick maneuvers to snag enough seating for everyone. Nonetheless it can be done. Most people are willing to donate one of their unused chairs to your cause. Sadly I have never experienced good service here. Never, ever be in a rush at The Old Post. I have been there when the place is packed and when it is practically empty and the service quality doesn't change. It can be an effort to flag down a server, even when you're with a group of 8+ people sitting almost next to the bar. Not so great service but the food and brews are good. So having no expectations means you won't be overly disappointed if its not the best bar experience.
(3)Lisa L.
The service was okay, although I did have to flag down the waitress a couple of times. The food was awful. I don't know what sick fascination the cook has with fennel, but it was in EVERYTHING--except for the fried banana peppers, which were so salty that I would have passed had I not been so hungry. I can't stand fennel, which definitely has no place in a hamburger (which was otherwise way under-seasoned) and is especially not appropriate in a Caesar salad dressing. It all tasted better when it came back up.
(1)Alex C.
Been here a couple times for lunch. The food has been a cut above other area pub food, and the beer flows through clean lines.
(3)Sundi P.
Food was good. "Cheers" type bar atmosphere.
(3)Felipe L.
pretty good fish tacos but the rest of the food is questionable, service is ok, prices are average.
(2)Mike M.
Great pub food and awesome tots. Service was friendly. Wish they had Trout Slayer ale onin tap .
(4)Mo S.
Spacious Mountain-man-ski-lodge-pub feel. Waitress that says "Y'all" before and after every other word. Great burger+beer deal (like $7, Sunday nights). Yummy chicken wrap- huge, plenty for leftovers. Somehow this all balanced out to three and 1/3 stars for me.
(3)Amy B.
Two stars for serving tater tots! Awesome! Other than that... hmm... I hate to say it, but the waitresses here are a little spacey and sometimes apathetic. Not good for business. Typical "pub" food and atmosphere. A gathering place for many middle-aged people, but whatever. All in all, I wasn't impressed, just blah.
(2)Joe J.
two stars for live music and tater tots the SERVICE SUCKS.
(2)Jess D.
The food's not that good, and the service can be astonishingly bad, but I keep going back. It's the deck! Nothing beats a summer day out there with a cold beer. Try the open face turkey sandwich if you're craving comfort food. Or go for the mediterranean platter for something lighter. Keep your fingers crossed for one of the friendly servers!
(3)Beth R.
I had a Bayern Dump Truck--good brew--and the hummus wrap minus the feta. Tasty beer. Ok meal. Good atmosphere.
(3)Rachel V.
We found this place based on the recommendation of a local. This place had a good selection of local draft beer. The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual. They also had a band playing in the parking lot that was awesome. I believe they were called the "Lil' Smokies" and they played some great bluegrass music. They appeared to have a good following as they were lots of college students there for the concert.
(4)Steven A.
Cheap beer and wings during the M-F happy hour, and the place gets packed too.
(4)Robert L.
The girl at the front desk admitted that she was a bit biased when she recommended that I come here to eat. She has a few friends that work here. That's alright, though. I figured if I was gonna be eating at a pub, then I best get a big juicy hamburger hot off the grill. It was good. I got a local amber ale to go with the burger. The burger was well seasoned with a big thick patty. Very good. But as far as getting something you can't get anywhere else... this was just good bar & grill food. And you can get bar & grill food anywhere.

Blackened tuna fish tacos were great with the moose drool beer. Very affordable, great ambience with a lot of character and friendly service and friendly locals.
(4)Dana C.
On a summer day, lunch on the patio out back with one of The Old Post's beers on tap and fresh sandwiches can't be beat. I'm impressed with the hand made pita bread and hummus on the Mediterranean chicken sandwich and the hot, delicious french fries--which were definitely potatoes this morning. The inside is nice too--friendly atmosphere and lots of wood. I would go here in a heartbeat over other establishments nearby. This place is friendly, local, and has freshly made food.
(4)Bobby B.
I agree with Robert L on his review, decent pub food but nothing special, the nachos are pretty good however just down the street at the iron horse they have better nachos. A couple cool thing about the Old post is the rustic feel, the friendly service and the beer selection where they represent many local beers on tap and the staff has pretty decent knowledge of the beers. I would probably say that this isn't high on the list of places you should visit if you are in town for a short time since there are many better places in Missoula to check out.
(3)Vincent M.
We've been there 3 times. - trying to give local businesses a good shot. The first two times we got food poisoning. Yeah. Wicked. The third time, we had the worst service ever. Rude server, took forever, wine was like vinegar. Never again.
