Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. Our favorite place for food and drinks when visiting Missoula! The menus offers variety of choices: anything from nachos to Asian fusion salads! We've tried quite a few dishes but our favorites are the buffalo chicken salad - I usually order half but it is big enough to satisfy most appetites...wonder how big the regular size is! Their Rubin sandwich is to die for and the elk burger will satisfy your burger crave with Montana twist :) Also, the menu changes so don't assume you'll find the same item next season! The venue itself is large and offers couple stories of inside and outside searing areas - heaters included!

This is a nice place to sit and relax over a drink or a meal. The place looks great and has good atmosphere. I wish the food was as good as the decor. I had the short ribs, which were disappointing. The meat was tender enough, but it didn't look great (looked like it was cut with the grain), and had mediocre flavor. Which is a shame, because short ribs are one of my favorite cuts of beef. I still think this is a great place to relax and get a drink. The food, however, is unremarkable.

I'm a little sad to have to give Iron Horse only 3 stars. I'd say they're closer to a 3.5 but not close enough to be a 4. And that makes me sad. A few years ago I would definitely have given them a 4 or maybe even 5 star review but the reason I can't is because the kitchen is incredibly inconsistent as of late. The place is beautiful, but I get tired of hearing the same 80's rock blasting every time you go in. The bartenders like what they like, but it keeps me outside or upstairs for the most part. I want to leave high school back in high school.. I've also had the experience lately of sitting at the bar to order a drink and have more than one bartender not even acknowlege my presence for 4 or 5 mins even when it's not that busy. Just walking past me back and forth making the drinks in front of my order.. (as to be expected of course).. but one of the basic tenants of customer service, customer service 101, you make eye contact, smile and say, "I'll be right with you." I've not gotten that service from them at the bar in a long time. Completely ignored until they have nothing else to do but ask me what I want. Now upstairs in 501, I do not have that problem. So back to the food. Massively inconsistent. They've upgraded the menu several times over and it *looks* amazing. Great variety of higher-end dishes.. well past "bar food". But as mentioned.. it will come out amazing one time, and really sub-par on another day. I don't know how many chef's they have working, but they are not all on the same page at all. I'm going to keep going in.. because I love their hibiscus martini.. and I really hope I can update this review after having some consistent good food.

Good drink menu, decent food. It's a good place to hang out if you are college aged.
(3)Jennifer B.
Great food and good atmosphere. My only complaints are it was kind of expensive ($100) for lunch for four (2 kids and 2 adults) and none of the wait staff seemed very happy to be there.
(3)Veronica M.
First time here in Missoula, this place seemed to have decent reviews so we went. It is a seat yourself deal, so we opted for the upper deck area which was nice. Our waitress came quickly and our drinks soon after. We ordered the Bulgogi skewers and I got the burger with the brie and apple compote on it. Everything was very good, ambiance was eh though.

Food: They had a decent selection of beers. On my first visit I started with a Big Sky IPA. I then had their Iron Horse Burger with a Big Sky Moose Drool to go with it. The beers were good, but that burger was somewhat disappointing. The patty was just too plain. I would not recommend this burger. On my second visit, my friend and I shared a pitcher of Dump Truck. My friend really loved this beer! It was not bad, but I prefer a darker heavier beer or a hoppier beer. This time around I order The Griz. This was a much better burger. It was a burger with ham, Jack cheese, fried onions, and a hard fried egg. It was a more substantial burger with a lot more flavor going on here! Make sure you have a nice healthy appetite if you decide to order it. Service: Great service! I like their bartenders. They're exceptionally friendly and fun to talk to while having a beer or two. Their wait staff were also friendly, attentive, and easy to flag down. Location: It's a spacious restaurant with some outdoor seating and easy to go to on foot. I found this place to be one of the best places to go to during my weekend trip to Missoula for the Missoula Marathon. It was a bit crowded both times that I ate here. The first time I was by myself and I was able to to find a seat a the bar. The second time I came with my friend and we were able to find a small table after a short wait.

My friend and I watched the movie Chef by Jon Favreau and wondered where in the world (other than Cuba) could we get one of those Cuban sandwiches? As fate would have it, two weeks later, we stumbled into The Iron Horse and accidentally found one. It's called the MEDIA NOCHE, made with slow roasted pork, ham, and Swiss cheese on a hoagie sourdough bun, and black pepper aioli. Fully prepared to be taking Tums for the rest of the day, or grabbing the ketchup and mustard bottles and igniting them with full force Dumb & Dumber style, we were expecting the Cuban to be uncontrollably spicy. To our surprise, it wasn't at all, which I was glad for since I don't typically enjoy spicy foods. Would've been nice to have had a nice Robusto cigar from Cuba for dessert, but apparently the embargo that was established in 1960 on Cuban goods is still in effect. Thanks a lot JFK.
(4)Tracy W.
A typical brew pub. It did have a little western feel to it. But more importantly it had good beer, good service, and good food. It is nothing special, but if you are just looking for a good meal with a good beer, this place is worth checking out.
(3)Randy P.
The Iron Horse has decent bar food. The portion are good size and the price is very reasonable. Some items are better than others but over all a good experience.
(3)Sarah R.
My husband and I read a few reviews prior to stopping by and I would say they are pretty spot on. The inside of the place is really nice and their drink menu is extensive, but their food misses the mark. We ordered their pot stickers and you got the sense they were pulled out of the freezer section from the local grocery store. We felt like we were in a time warp with all of the '90s grunge rock playing consistently. Nice place for a cocktail but that's about it.
(3)Trevor S.
Sat at the bar for 10 minutes literally staring bullets at every staff member there without a single acknowledgement of any kind. Food looked cheap (but wasn't) and patrons appeared to be tourists who didn't know any better. Avoid.
(1)Alexander P.
Below average bar food and an obnoxious atmosphere. Couldn't stand it at 21 and it's not any better now.
(1)Shane D.
While this place is definitely a bar atmosphere, the menu is much more ambitious. I think, perhaps, they should tighten up the menu with a few less items and make them better. I had the Media Noche, which is a really good Cuban style sandwich. My wife had the fajitas, which unfortunately focused on heat rather than flavor, kind of a disappointment. The other member of our group had the quesadilla with southwest chicken added. She enjoyed it, but it was HUGE and she ended up boxing 3/4 of it for later. I want to mention something here. I hate it when your salad is brought the same time as your entree, because then you are rushing through your salad so your food doesn't get cold. I get salad because I actually like it and want to enjoy it, not rush through it. So that was a downer. Service was good otherwise, helpful and attentive. As a final comment, I think the food is a bit pricy, especially charging so much extra for a rather small side salad. Not a bad place to drink but they need to address the menu.
(3)Betsy L.
Big portions of great food. Lovely outdoor seating. Great drink selection of local beers & mixed drinks. Split a burger & added a house salad. Washed it down with a Bayern Pilsner. Perfect mix.
(5)Debi C.
Total mess when we walked in and won't allow families with kids to eat - even in patio. Say they're no smoking but people were smoking on patio.
(1)Beth S.
I stopped by here for a late lunch one day. It was just perfect. Not too crowded, the menu had a great selection and a great selection of beer. The service was friendly and prompt. I great place to go for 'American' fare.
(5)Lauren P.
I came to the Iron Horse for the first time tonight. We drove into Missoula from Seattle to go to a show. I am so impressed with this place. Everyone working here was so friendly. I ordered the healthy bowl with salmon. It was delicious. When my bill came, the bartender noticed that I was confused. I didn't know salmon was extra. It would have been totally fine with me to pay but they just took it off the bill without question. I couldn't believe it! What a great place! If ever driving through Missoula again, I will be sure to stop at the Iron Horse!! :)
(5)Laurie D.
I always visit ironhorse and.love the food. Some.of the old steak plates shud return. Like ribeye with gorgon zola n coffee rubbed flank. I do.enjoy the new braised short ribs. And the flatiron steak love the fried cookie dough desert. But on the down side I dont.like to look up from my plate.and notice.that a waitress hind end is showing cuz her skirt is too short .
(4)Meg G.
Love the food, it's upscale and delicious. The service is very fast even when it is busy. It has a good atmosphere and is very clean as well. I bring out of towners here. So far everyone from Denver lives it. I recommend going here.
(5)Peter C.
We were passing through on our way home to Washington and we stopped by for lunch. The drink menu was extensive and all the drinks we tried were excellent! The food we ordered were awesome as well. Definitely a place to try if you're looking for a good place to relax and enjoy some food and drinks.
(5)Paul L.
Jared was awesome and his suggestions were perfect for the afternoon. The locally brewed beers were perfect along with the Buffalo chicken salad, make sure you get dressing on the side.
(5)Jeff V.
Who doesn't love the Iron Horse? Great beer on tap, great food, great bartenders, great vibe. If you're looking for a place to hangout in Missoula, this is a top pick.
(4)Savvy S.
Spotted this place while exploring downtown, thought we'd check it out. They have a pool table (in good shape .75 a game) and some slot machines, pretty large bar. The nachos are advertised as HUGE and come in as a large portion. The burger was great and the steak sandwich looked delicious but a friend ordered it, not myself, and this isn't "Lady and the Tramp." Plenty of beers to choose from and if you're there during happy hour the local choices are discounted. Our server came by a few times and checked on us, seemed like she had other things to do which might be why our order came out incorrectly. Nothing too bad though, I'd say this is a great spot to be to watch the game, shoot some pool, and have some beers.
(3)Deborah J.
Spacious interior with tons of seating. No problem getting a seat on a random weekday for lunch. Service was on point, prices were average and portions were large. Fish and Chips was really good. My friend got one of their turkey sandwiches - I was fat and finished hers for her, all I remember was the bacon and cheese MMMM. We weren't in MT for too long, but this was the best place we ate at.
(4)Rebecca R.
The Iron Horse has good "Montana" food...meaning beer and American comfort food. Portions are large and in charge and everything is delicious. I especially like the "recession special" grilled cheese/chili combo. Oh, and just a warning, if you are not too hungry "just getting an appetizer" is not the way to go. I tried that last time and ended up with a place of nachos that could have served 6. The food is for sharing! For some reason our UM faculty members love it here, every time we have a department outing this is the place! But I get it. The food is great, it's not too loud so you can have a good conversation, and there is always football playing on the tvs. They have good happy hour prices, and I love the $9 Burger-and-Beer deal on Sunday/Monday night!
(4)Jennifer T.
They have a huge menu. Quantity does not mean quality. It's just so-so food. The best part of this establishment is the womens bathroom. They have everything you need to primp before returning to your tabel. They have, body spray, body deodorants, feminine products, lotion and mints.
(3)Brandon L.
Spicy tandoori chicken salad was not spicy at all. Lots of dressing on the salad. Huge portion for the whole size. Tasty over all, probably have it again.
(4)L L.
The location was cute. Inside was spacious, there was a covered outdoor section, then a separate patio bordered with flowers and obscured from the road by a wall with umbrellas. Wanting a quieter scene, we went all the way outside. Our server was very friendly, even staying at our table to chat a time or two. Sure beats the Seattle freeze! My mate got the cheese fondue app, which was adorable with a little bunsen burner to warm the tomato soup and tiny triangles of cheese sandwhich. My food was outstanding! The blacked salmon could have been a stand-alone item and been delicious, but it came on a huge BLT with bacon cooked crispy (no drippy, spongy fat, the way it ought to be) and a substantial side of potato salad spiced up with some sort of hot herb. We also ordered a local IPA, which our waitress was nice enough to pour in a little 10 oz to share, instead of the pint offered on the menu (we had to drive home that day). I ate til I foundered (I'm from 3.5 hours away and knew the leftovers wouldn't keep on the drive, and didn't want to waste food). The portions were humongous. The price however, was small--$24!!! As a beer, food, and patio lover--I was impressed.
(4)Tyler T.
Tasty albeit overpriced restaurant by day, horrifying frat orgy by night. Inexplicably amazing queso dip. Kinda like "From Dusk Til Dawn," except instead of morphing into demonic vampires, everyone turns into flat-bill adorned flip-flop wearing broheims and overly-made-up yammering sorority rejects. Make sure you get out of there before the sun sets.
(3)Giovanni M.
I love Missoula to begin with, so call me biased on that account, but this place was a great time! I was there in summer when the college crowd was gone---so it could be a messier Friday night than I saw---but I'm not a fun-hater so I'm sure I could deal with the "YOLO crowd". Anyway, my dinner was great, fast, tasted awesome. Brian was my bartender, he had a large packed bar under his thumb like a pro.
(4)Caleb H.
Food was decent, not the best. Ok atmosphere and service, although our waiter almost knocked you over with the smell of stale cigarettes. The drinks were good (and cheap) on Happy Hour. *Bottom line: Pretty average. I might go back if it's convenient.
(3)Boddhi K.
Used to be quite good. Seems to have gone downhill lately. My last elk burger with garlic cheese fries was cold, cheese unmelted, and the burger had a soggy bun. I won't be going back. Bad pool table. Only plus side is the service. Our waitress was a gem.
(3)Kara A.
I was visiting from Las Vegas and thought this was an A+ venue until it was closing time. The way they yell at their customers when it's 2 am is absolutely horrendous unacceptable.
(2)Anne K.
Came here for a drink in the evening. The patio is lovely, though it's a shame half of the view is of the parking lot. The draught menu is extensive, seasonal and moderately priced.
(3)Robert W.
good food (we had the salmon and black bean soup); both were tasty and well cooked. the environment is lively and youthful, but good for all walks of life. The service was attentive and friendly
(4)Justine J.
we stopped here on our way from Washington State to Colorado and it was a pretty good lunch. we tried sitting outside bit it was just too hot and the waiters were really nice about us moving tables. the sweet potato fries and the spicy sauce they come with are awesome. the sandwiches and also really good. the black bean soups is a little too thick, but it tastes great! the server was really fun and energetic, but seemed a little spazzy - he didn't give each of us time to answer his questions before he moved on to the next question - so the poor girl that brought us our meal was all sorts of confused because the man had put our orders in incorrectly - he worked it out, but if he had just slowed down enough to really listen to us, there wouldn't have been a problem. overall the food is good, service okay, and daytime atmosphere is laid back. but next time we pass through I think we'll try somewhere else.
(3)Mike M.
Pretty fun place that draws in everyone around town. Grabbed a spot at the bar and had immediate service, downing a few of their famous Big Sky brews. They have a good selection of All-American foods. Had the Griz, which is filled with cheese, fried onions, ham and eggs, and didn't disappoint. This place is huge and makes you feel the presence of everyone in town. Everyone from marathon runners to bachelorette parties were celebrating while I was there, which made me feel at ease. The comedy of the sign upon leaving the parking lot that warns of drunk people crossing = classic. Stop by!
(4)Peter B.
Fantastic experience! Our waiter JC was great and his energy made it a fun experience! The food was fresh and delicious. The fish tacos and beef brisket were a great choice.
(5)Zackary R.
The food is good, I have many of the burgers and appetizers, and the beer and alcohol selection is good as well. The service is okay, only once in over 20 visits was service bad. I would prefer the men's bathroom would have a goodie basket like the women's bathroom during the lunch hours. For example mints, lotion, cologne, etc would work.
(4)Bree I.
Love this bar! Friends and I go all the time for an awesome assortment of shots, as well as the great food. The salmon BLT is the best! And of course their sweet potatoe fries are delicious. The crowd is generally college aged but there are a good range of ages on a busy saturday night. Great for celebrating!
(5)Lisa H.
Highly recommend! Hummus to die for! Local brew yummy! Black bean burger wonderful (a bit overbooked for my taste). Salmon BLT was great! The garlic fries are second to none! Black bean soup was worth the visit alone! My son had the kids chicken strips and they came with veggies and ranch. Not your normal chicken -- better!! Our waiter was very good - polite, quick and cheerful!
(4)Mandy G.
Food is great as well as service. It's usually pretty busy but you can get in quickly. The sandwiches are all good & the salads fresh & are HUGE! Upstairs there's a nice little lounge area with a fireplace & couches. In the summer they have their front & upstairs patio opened. Great place to enjoy food & a brew with.
(4)Jessica B.
Overrated and unprofessional customer service. I just tried to reserve space for for a private party later in the evening, and was told no reservations are taken in the summer because they lose money reserving space for the entire evening. One would assume you'd want a guaranteed revenue stream than guessing the number of walk-ins you have during unpredictable Montana weather in May... Sounds like mismanagement of staff and space, and I guarantee they've lost my business and the 19 other people who will be dining with me. Can't get over the rudeness and inflexibility - much more polite ways to say no...
(1)Hana Z.
After listening to the way the person that owns this place frequently screams at their employees in the alley behind the business, can't say I feel too inclined to visit anymore (even though I live very closeby). People shouldn't treat other people like that. Screaming obscenities and personal attacks at someone, ESPECIALLY IN A PROFESSIONAL SETTING, AS A PERSON OF AUTHORITY, is never ok and it just makes me feel so bad for the employees that must have to tip toe around this abusive and cruel boss on a daily basis. Sorry but this restaurant will see no more of my business and may I recommend an anger management course for the woman in charge...
(1)Kathleen S.
I was so surprised by this place! When we first walked in, I was sure it would be "just food" but months later I am still dreaming about my salad! I also had a slider, which wasn't anything to write home about, but their salads are so good! I highly recommend the harvest salad!!
(4)D R.
This is "our spot" when it comes to places to have a good meal and a beer. While the name is a misnomer (they don't brew anything) it's still a wonderful place to grab a pint after a long day. The food is NOT bar food. This place has one of the best chefs in Missoula and EVERYTHING on the menu that I have tried over the years does not disappoint. The ambiance is varied depending on what night of the week you go and what sporting event might be happening. It attracts a ton of Griz fans on game day and college kids on the weekend night. Best time for a relaxing meal is mid-week, but we've never been disappointed any time we've stopped in.
(5)Henry R.
Its OK. Food is ok, not great. Its a huge bar with food. Lots of college kids. Loud. Beer. Not dying to go there again any time soon.
(3)Jim D.
Tons of seats, good view, and great location. Parking was a bit hairy for our little car, gravel lot had some massive potholes. The burgers were awesome (I had a bison burger), just the fuel we needed for our first day in Yellowstone! Totally worth a stop!
(4)Priscilla L.
Food was delicious & the service was great. Our server was very attentive. Ordered the mushroom appetizer, to die for! And had the Cuban pork sandwich with jalapeños, cheese and lettuce, really good! Topped it off with the fried cookie dough dessert served with vanilla bean ice cream; holy cow! AmaZAzing!!!! To drink I had the local milk stout which was lovely, it had a crisp coffee flave to it. Also had the local honey summer pale (can't remember the exact name) which was probably one of the best beers I've ever had. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Missoula.
(4)Mollie W.
I love the Iron Horse! Every time I come home, stopping at the Iron Horse is a must. Try their Nachos and a couple of their martinis off the menu and you will not be disappointed.
(5)Lincoln M.
Location and atmosphere is nice. Food is def of average and service is TERRIBLE. Took literally 17 min to get a beer and was not friendly at all. Used to come here all the time. Will be removing from places to return to when in town
(1)Corinna S.
Great food and really good service. Best California Club I've ever had. Worth checking out for sure!
(5)Maria V.
First time here. I heard the beer on tap is the best, and it was! Was kind of disappointed with the service and my food. The artichoke dip was amazing, my salmon blt was almost inedible. A very small piece of overcooked salmon in between two very large burnt pieces of toast resulted in a very dry meal, and I only was able to choke down part of the salmon and couldn't eat the bread at all, it was black! The salad was great and the other meals were very good also (burgers). Our waitress wasn't friendly but wasn't rude. Service wasn't horrible, but wasn't great. She never refilled our water or checked on us after we got our food but was prompt when we asked for things.
(3)Leah L.
I would consider this place to serve typical pub fare. Not terrible, but it doesn't blow me away either. Service was great and I really liked the garlic fries. I would certainly order the garlic fries again. I had the house special Tender 501 and my husband had the Catfish Po Boy. The sandwiches were good, but I wouldn't order the 501 again. I just wasn't that fond of the sauce. I would likely return if I lived in Missoula for a burger and fries.
(3)Crystal Q.
This is one of the places we always visit while in Missoula. They have a great beer selection, a fun cocktail list and the 501 sandwich. Get it you wont regret it! Amazing! I have fat piggy dreams about it when I am eating healthy. Makes my mouth water writing a review about it. Fun place, cool laid back atmosphere.
(5)Amanda N.
As a tourist from Alberta I gotta say this place was great! the back patio is beautiful and relaxing. the service was quick and attentive. we had the daily soup (cream of sausage) a salad and sandwich and the servings were quite large. I'd highly recommend for anyone looking for a casual family friendly dinner.
(5)Tristan N.
Very rowdy place at night and we had to leave earlier than we thought. It does have pretty decent food in the day though.
(2)Chiep P.
Plenty of outdoor seating upstairs and main floor
(3)Joe B.
Black and blue new York was fantastic and our bartender, Izzo, was great. One of the best steaks I've had in town
(4)Ann S.
The Grizz was the best! Kids chicken strips were perfect with the seasoned fries. Easy street or restaurant parking. Street parking is metered, takes coins only.
(4)Alan Y.
They have two of my plates in Missoula... #1- Baja Taco- cannot go wrong here. Absolutely amazing, made to perfection each time #2- Tender 501- this is their famous sanwhich and it's as good as everyone says! ..They also have a great atmosphere/seating area during the summer..With that being said- the servers aren't always the nicest/most attentive..Several times I have had really bad experiences with service, but because I love their food so much- I keep going. ALSO, I ordered the tuna sandwich ONCE and I will never get it again. It was terrible, soggy, and the sprouts tasted like dishwater..even though I complained and tried to send it back- nothing was done about it..Meh, back to the baja taco.
(4)Andrew F.
Me and my GF being concert goers from out of town were visiting brew pubs and were surprised at how modern yet not Cosmo The Iron Horse was...if ya catch my drift. Service was quick friendly and helpful...enuf said
(4)Stephen s.
always great..we have been eating here when we come up from Hamilton for as long as I can remember. Love the atmosphere and interesting variety of food..plus of course their good beer.
(5)Brad B.
Great beer selection with a lot of locals on tap. Came here with apps in mind so we had the wings and gravy fries. Very tasty buffalo wings (all drums actually) but they were cooked perfect, not soggy or too crunchy, and had really good sauce that didn't taste like it was just doctored up Frank's like most places get away with. The gravy fries were a little indulgent but wow were they good. Nice thick fries covered in a house brown gravy with jack cheese and green onion. Got halfway through these and thought I couldn't eat anymore... but finished the plate. Didnt get to try any entrees but everything sounded good. Very nice server also. The only downside for us was that it was a Broncos football night and it was getting pretty loud there.
(3)Andy W.
On our grand road trip from Chicago to Seattle, my wife and I found ourselves in Missoula, Montana to stay overnight. In search of a good local place to get some food on the company dime, we were referred to the Iron Horse Brew Pub by a local barista downtown Missoula. We walked in, and immediately felt like it was more of a college-pub. There were TVs everywhere, and sports on all of them. We sat down at one of the few tables, and sat awkwardly waiting for menus - mainly because everyone else was there mid-week to drink... and heavily. So, we were hungry and couldn't decide what to eat - so we ended up ordering a full size Asian Chicken Salad, a Spicy Pork Sandwich Platter (which came with soup & fries), and then an appetizer of what they called 'The Gravy Train' - which is more commonly known as poutine. The Asian Chicken Salad was gigantic, and delicious. The spicy pork sandwich was pretty good, had good flavor, but wasn't really what I was looking for that day. But the gravy train. Oh my goodness, the gravy train. The best thing to come out of Canada since Molson. Crispy fries, melted mozzarella and thick, delicious gravy piled on top - with some green onions to boot. All in all, it was around $30 including tax and tip. I have only two complaints: 1. When we asked our waiter if that sounded like too much food, he said "No, it'll be a good amount, but not too much" - Liar. We ate only 40% of our food, and left the restaurant with 4 containers of food. 2. I asked the waiter why no one else in the restaurant was eating the Gravy Train (because it was so good), and the guy didn't even realize it was still on the menu, because no one orders it. I'm a good Midwestern boy, and I love potatoes, gravy and cheese. Period - end of story. The health-conscious ways of Missoula's youth makes me skeptical, and I don't trust them.... At the end of the day - I'd come back again if only for that Gravy Train.
(4)Maddie C.
Great Caesar salad with salmon and of course the sweet potato fries are awesome! The iron horse is always a consistent choice. Also, our server Beau was awesome, very attentive and efficient!
(5)Jill H.
I rely heavily on yelpers to find great places to eat in any city I travel to but I must say my experience differs greatly from what has been posted about the food The location and atmosphere were great. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive but we waited 33 minutes for our dinner on a Thursday. My husband had the trapper burger and the meat patty was as dry and definitely not the size as advertised. I had the french onion soup and salad. The dressing was yummy but my salad was so wilted. The french onion soup was only OK. My son had the french dip which was also dry and not tender. My daughter's kids pasta shells was drenched in so much cheese sauce. I tried the 4th of July summer sangria and it lwas beautifully presented but lacked any flavor to a sangria.

Had our dog with us. This is the only restaurant we have found in Missoula that let us have our dog on the patio with us. Very good lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Service was excellent. We will go back.
(4)Chris W.
Great atmosphere, big menu selection, great sandwiches, salads and drinks. The staff here is always friendly and on point. Summer cocktails on the deck upstairs and outside is always fun.
(4)Shawnalee B.
We checked out iron horse late one evening on our road trip. Great prices (compared to home), good variety on the menu and our server was friendly and accommodating. With allergy restrictions she was helpful in finding something delicious on the menu that I could still enjoy.
(4)Fred G.
The service is great. The food is even better. This last visit I had the Tender 501 - a tenderloin medallion sandwich with caramelized onions with Sriracha aioli along with spicy french fries. It was absolutely excellent! The steak was tender, and with the onions and aioli was just a perfect combo. The fries were crisp and incredibly tasty. There's a reason I eat at the Iron Horse every time I come through Missoula.

A great, upscale bar and restaurant in Missoula. Foods constantly good with a great variety. Something for everyone. Good place to watch college or pro football games or any sporting event for that matter. Awesome draft beer selection. Great bartenders and service. In the summer a great place to eat outside. Overall, a good place to grab a bite and a beer or two!
(4)A W.
I love the variety on the menu and Ive never had a bad meal! I also am a fan of the healthy options on the kids menu. They have great cocktails and pretty good service to boot!
(4)Michelle C.
Iron Horse is a good option if you are not looking to be wowed by the quality of food. I had the Market Salad and the lettuce was not crisp and some areas of brown lettuce were noted. The atmosphere is open and fun, definitely a good choice for a night out with the ladies. I sat at the bar and the service was impeccable.

Husband and I had a craving for Nachos and someone recommended this place. Nachos were ok but I also ordered a sirloin salad. The sirloin was raw, looked like it had just been braised for a short period of time. Told the waitress I could not eat it because it was not cooked. She says that she will see what she can do. Comes back to the table and offers me a free drink, NOT how about I fix your food or not charge you for the salad but a free drink. Wont return !!

This place just doesn't give me enough bang for my buck. The food is ok. But the ambiance isn't my style--usually it's full of rich UM alumni and money-wielding college kids. Don't think about going there on game day unless you mean business! Not to mention it's kind of on the expensive side. They get the third star solely for their fabulous patio! Tangent alert: I've had some not-so-nice interactions with their owner from my time working food service. She doesn't tip! Sorry, but it does color my opinion of your establishment.

Great server. Delicious food and great spirits selection.

The IHBP is a popular Missoula hangout with an interesting and lively history, so it was somehow appropriate that my first visit here was with a group of locals who were every bit as lively and interesting as the location itself. I came on the invitation of Missoula Yelper, Judy W. ( yelp.com/user_details?us… ), a well-regarded author, educator, motivational speaker, and life coach (and mother of 6). It was her way of welcoming me, a recent Yelp transplant, into the community. I enjoyed the afternoon out immensely, not just because of the quality of the company but also because of the niceness of the setting. In fact, now that I think about it, Judy W. and I may well have hosted the first UYE in Missoula history. If this is indeed the case (and I have not idea how I could ever confirm this), then the Iron Horse was the perfect spot for it. It has all the telltale signs of a local landmark that surely can get rockin' wild from time to time, but what impressed me on the day we visited was how relaxing and downright comfortable it was. That kind of atmosphere is hard to fake, so when you find it, you know. We came for lunch midweek and snagged a corner table for 4 +1 by a cast iron fireplace at the far end of a glassed-in winter patio. It was a great location, one that allowed us to get acquainted and swap stories without shouting at each other, which made the whole meal pleasant from start to finish. While the "Horse" transforms itself at night and during Grizzly football games into a rowdy sports bar filled with UM alumni and students, the atmosphere when we visited was more like an Oxford pub than an American Western watering hole. Instead of cask-conditioned English ales there were fresh beers on tap from Missoula's own Big Sky Brewing, including their excellent Scapegoat pale ale and the creatively-named Moose Drool brown ale. Instead of fish and chips and mushy peas, we feasted on savory sweet potato fries, an extravagantly baconed BLT (more like a BBBLT, I would say), a creamy Dungeness crab and artichoke dip, a pulled pork BBQ sandwich, and a really nice cup of Spanish tortilla soup. While the food and drink were very good, the conversation was probably even better. I found myself feeling like a local right away. That is a priceless experience for anyone who has recently relocated from one place to another. As I have occasionally remarked in the past, food and drink are only two parts of a complex equation when it comes to eating out. The intangibles are harder to rank on a scale of 1 to 5. How can a restaurant owner possibly prepare for every contingency and make each minute of the day as satisfying as the next? It's an impossible task, and it shouldn't be expected, either. It takes a lot of teamwork to make a place like this click, and there are bound to be some days that are better than others. But I got lucky, I guess. On the day that I came, the Horse was having a good day. Things were definitely clicking, and that deserves Yelping about. Judy W. and her friends had something to do with this, of course, but so did those sweet potato fries.
(5)Lauren G.
I came here for lunch while in Missoula on business. I had a cup of black bean soup and a salad. I was very impressed with the quality of service. The food was fine, but really it was the service that stood out. Thanks Iron Horse!
(4)Clarke H.
This is our second visit....the last time was in May of 2012. Still the same excellent beer selection, and food! Great service
(4)Christopher G.
I visited Missoula for the first time this year on a business trip. I arrived at the Iron Horse with a group of 7 and we were only able to find one table next to the entrance. However, it was a Saturday afternoon; I can understand a place getting busy on the weekends. I ordered the media noche sandwich and had two Stella's. The sandwich was alright. Definitely no where near the best media noche sandwich I've had, but it hit the spot. Rating is for average service, decent food, lack of seating, and the waitress' semi-rude personality.
(3)Julia N.
+4: I love the sweet potato fries - om nom! I had a 1/2 gyro salad on my last visit. The meat was a bit on the dry side but everything else was spot on. I really appreciated the sauce coming on the side so I could take home leftover salad without the sogg
(4)Morgan B.
This is a great place to go if you are looking for great food at a reasonable price and a great beer selections. The service is usually fast and friendly. I have only had one bad experience with the service here, and the server Jennifer just didn't seem all that interested in good customer service. Other than that I would definitely recommend going here!
(4)Brent C.
Had a pretty good dinner here when passing through town last May. Great beer selection with good pub comfort food. A place with sweet potato fries is always a plus in my book too. We both had burgers I am pretty sure. I had the Grizzly burger and she had a bacon burger. The burger were pretty good but the bun kind of feel apart. It definitely wasn't a memorable visit and I probably would not seek this place out is all. But if I just wanted a beer and a burger while watching sports, then is place fits the bill.
(3)Liz L.
The food is really good or really underseasoned by turns, and the service occasionally sucks, but most of the experiences I've had here were pleasant. Great brunch on the weekends- love the Bloody Mary with house-infused vodka!
(3)Joe B.
Came in on a Friday...Mardi Gras Friday to be exact. Not a long line and was seat yourself. The waitress was very attentative for all that was going on. Drink orders and food were done fast. Had the 501 and that sandwich was so good I wasn't sure if I was orgasming or eating it. Yes, it was that good.
(5)Nico A.
The Iron Horse is a Missoula institution. On football weekends, this place is packed with Fans. Overall, I'm very happy with their food and I highly recommend their Nachos plate with chicken! Their sweet potato fries are also pretty good. Their drinks are on par with what is available in town and so are their prices. If you are ever in Missoula, you have to come check this place out. In the summer, they open up the Patio upstairs which is a great experience!
(4)Big S.
Always enjoy the Ironhorse! The service is stellar and the beer is cold. I ordered for my wife and I think it startled the server. Is that a lost art? He took it in stride and our date night evening was enjoyable. Yep, we'll be back. The martinis are excellent! I usually balk at martini prices but not on date night.
(4)Amy H.
The Iron Horse Brew Pub is one of my favorite places in town. Great drinks, great food and good times! My favorite thing about the Iron Horse is the wonderful outdoor patio on the top floor. There's nothing like having a meal or a few drinks out there in the summer time. As for my reasons for not giving a 5 star review: -The food and drinks are a tad expensive. If I didn't love the Strawberry Sex drink so much, I may not return as much as I do. -The service is hit or miss. Most of the time, the wait staff lacks on the personality side. I'm usually a decent tipper but if the waiter/waitress acts like they hate their job and is rude, I start docking the tip. -I'm not a fan of the average I-ho night crowd. Most of the people there are wealthy alumni-types or fall into the "frat-boy/sorority girl" subtype. That being said, I prefer to go there for lunch or perch myself on the aforementioned upper patio.
(4)Keith L.
I have mixed feelings on the ol Iron Horse. The food is really good and I would recommend this place for lunch and dinner. I would vacate as the bar crowd comes in. It is full of A&F wearing athletic department groupies. There are better bars to hang out at in Missoula. As a restaurant, this place is great....bar...meh.
(3)Alex C.
Always reliable pub food and beer downtown. I get the nachos a lot; usually split them with one or two people. Fair prices, good food, you won't be sorry.
(4)Amy N.
What a find! I happened upon this place while passing through. Killer outdoor seating, great food (try the tandoor chicken salad), great beer, and phenomenal service (Justin, who selected my beers, gave me awesome food advice, and never let a glass go empty.) can't recommend it enough.
(5)Rachel P.
Chilaxin patio. Brew: big sky ipa, yes please. Phood: seared salmon was delish, moist and lightly crunchy on the outside, very well prepared. Wild rice was a bit cool for my liking but good taste. Fresh broccoli was crunchy and flavorful. Go.
(4)Kaylee M.
The food was good a little expensive but would recommend for lunch. Our server was good and even brought our child crayons when she got restless which was nice. However the music was annoyingly loud, the sun was very bright (the front of the restaurant is picture windows with no shades) we had to leave before we finished our food because the combination of the music and glare from the sun was giving us all a headache.
(3)Kc S.
Halibut fish tacos and queso dip were great! Good beer too!
(4)Billy B.
This used to be good. Has gone down hill. Food is nasty drinks are weak. Service stinks. James bar is just around the block, go there.
(1)John S.
On a trip through montana and i i thought i would get a feel for their college life by stopping at iron horse. We had the chicken waffle, tender 501 samdwich, burbon street pulled pork, and shrimp andouie pasta shells. The slider appatizer is fantastic. The chicken waffle had a lot of herbs but tasted great nontheless. My tender 501 was amazing with perfect grilled onions tenderloin, and siracha sauce that was to die for. The burbon street pulled pork was so spicy and delicious. Great beer selection and wine as well. Fun atmospher and packed to the brim. Severely underated.

We arrived and I went to use the restroom and it was a mess so I told out waitress then she tells the bartender so he goes and looks and tells the waitress its not messy. The waitress then tells me its not messy. Strike 1! Don't challenge the customer as my business partner tells me at the pub. The food was disgusting, runny avocado and slow service. Strike 2! The waitress is off but we don't know it and she sits at the bar and starts drinking with the locals (it was obvious they all knew each other) and we are left with no real service and our waitress drinking with her buddies at the bar. Strike 3! These people have no clue of customer service, its all about them and the locals. I understand its a college area place but most of the customers were not college kids. The bartender had a rude smirk on his face after looking at the messy bathroom, the waitress had no business challenging my comment about the messy bathroom and the overall service was pathetic. Some young man said he took over after we sat with our almost full plates of food and empty drinks. He was nice and had a good attitude but too late to salvage the disaster of this place. My business partner totally agrees with this post and might make one himself. NEVER AGAIN!

Better ravioli has never passed my lips. If it wasn't for the disappointing service I'd be giving 5 stars. My taste buds were blown away! Fresh asparagus ravioli - hand made for The Iron Horse & imported from Seattle. Red pepper ravioli filled with fresh asparagus & imported Italian cheeses, topped with mushrooms & asparagus tips in house pesto cream sauce. Served with garlic toast. They have a wide selection of salad dressings. Our waitress didn't bother pointing them out so I knew what my choices were. She hastily asked, "Is blah blah dressing ok?" I felt a little rushed & very uninformed. Locals know The Iron Horse is where the Cali girls go to hang out. I got the impression it's where the pop the collar type of guys go. We were there early enough to see all types of people, including children. There's 1 pool table that I saw. By the restrooms is a pretty cool fish tank. I'm usually annoyed by places that play their music loud but the music here was super quiet. That actually bugged me because it was good music! I wanted to hear it for once, but that's just me lol

Better than nothing if the strip clubs won't hire you if you are unemployed barstaff. The outdoor patio is nice during summer. The bathrooms are clean, and its centrally located. Go here for a cheap lunch or eye opener before walking around old town. give the post 8pm crowd a miss unless you dig "Jersey Shore: Montana cowpunching contest"
(2)Michaud N.
If you are a college 'bro' or 'sorostitute' this is apparently the place to be based on the crowd gathered on a Friday night. Came in here because it has brew pub in the name, which implies they brew their own beer, my mistake. We were informed by the waitress that they used to brew their own beer until the old owners split thus dissolving the brewing operation and it was just easier to keep the name. Well then. They did have some local beers on the menu that were ok and their salads with house made dressings were good. The crowd was like amateur hour and unappealing.
(2)Dave P.
Went there twice during recent Missoula visit. Had chicken Caesar salad first time, stella? Second time had meatball sandwich (would give it 6 stars if possible) and several types of beer. Waitresses were excellent, service quick. Again, would give 6 stars if possible. Go there !
(5)Stephanie H.
Was here last night to meet a friend on my week long return to Missoula. Loved going back- the only downfall is that it was still cold so no seating on the outdoor deck which is huge. Staff is friendly, and attentive. Good prices on food and drinks. We got apitcher for $5 can't beat that! Love the missoula beer prices. They totally beat MA! Great huge portions that are filling. I had the buffalo chicken salad which was huge and filling and I couldn't finish. GREAT Salad! Lots of variety of food options. A must do when in Missoula!

Another Missoula hot spot for me and my cohorts. This place is always hopping. Quality sports bar with 2 levels of seating and in the summers they close off the parking lot and have live bands and dancing. Now usually, pub food is standard fare for many of these establishments. But I have had some great dishes here, cooked to order (and the one time it wasn't they made it right, with no fear of kitchen retribution). The seared Ahi was prepared spot on med rare on the side of rare as ordered and on another occasion the beef tenderloin medallions seared med rare and were like butter. They carry a full line of many local brews on tap...Big Sky's Scapegoat IPA and Moose Drool being 2 favorites. I also had a huckleberry martini on the recommendation of one of the bartenders...not bad...
(4)Sean M.
Stopped in to grab a couple brews and some lunch while visiting family. They have a really good selection of beers and the bar is stocked with just about anything you would want. The establishment was bright, clean and had a great atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive without being annoying. I had the Media Noche sandwich which was fantastic and my gf's fish taco's were great as well. Our lunch with 2 pints and a "girly" drink came to about $24 which is very reasonable, especially compared to the prices we pay at the brew pubs in Colorado. Great experience and I will absolutely go back when I visit Missoula again.
(4)Karl H.
This was the best place I've found to go out in Missoula, coming from a traveler passing through town. The drinks seemed a bit more expensive than they needed to be. There as a mix of different people: some older looking ladies, some drunk girls, and some fratty looking guys. One of these fratty guys wanted to beat up my friend for wearing a pink polo. The bouncers escorted him out. But don't worry, that didn't negatively effect my experience. I enjoyed sitting on the outside patio as the weather was beautiful last time I was here. My favorite part was the caution drunk crossing sign out front.
(3)Nicole R.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. We wanted to eat on the patio and it was seat yourself. We picked a table and waited 10 minutes and were never greeted. The we went and sat at the bar rail. We ordered our food and proceeded to wait 45+ minutes and the bartender checked on us once after half am hour. When our food arrived every meal was wrong. I would not recommend this restaurant at all!
(1)Amy B.
Not a fan of the crowd that gathers here after, say, 8pm. This place is also notorious for serving underage (it's not that hard and I now countless people who go there for dinner and stay a couple hours to avoid the bouncer and the inevitable ID check). Their fries are good and they have a raw veggie appetizer, which is a nice alternative. Never had to wait for a table or stand around waiting for a spot to open up at the bar, which is a plus. If you go before the bar crowd arrives, try the Athena Greek wrap. Very yummy. Service is a little below average. The past couple times we've gotten a waitress that makes it obvious that she hates you and her job. Planning on avoiding this place from now on...
(2)Amy R.
Plenty of local microbrews on tap, including Cold Smoke! Good pub-style food and friendly service. If you get a burger or sandwich, make sure you get the sweet potato fries.
(4)Monica P.
5 stars for the drinks, 3 stars for the food (although the sweet potato fries are off the chain). Lots of seating and chill scene.
(4)Josh H.
Lots of beers, with a very busy atmosphere in the evenings. Food is safe, but just okay.
(3)Aaron S.
Very pleasant place, at least in the early summer when some of the students are gone. Tons of seating. The "rice cakes" appetizer is way better than its grocery-store namesake--"risotto fritters" would be a more accurate and appetizing description. The 9 month old I was with seemed to really enjoy the sweet potato fries that went with my blackened steak sandwich as well, though I can't give an accurate review of it as I was hungry enough to eat the table at the time. Great selection of local breweries on tap (cheap as hell by Chicago standards), though I didn't see a house brew so are they really a brew pub? Shrug. Very friendly service as well, just like everywhere else in Missoula.
(4)Andrew D.
Very large portions. A beautiful day on the patio. Buffalo chicken salad was hot as advertised. Great value!
(4)Lisa T.
My husband and I had lunch/early dinner here during an extended bicycle tour. It seemed like "the place to go" if you had to choose only one in Missoula. We had a suspicion that the food wouldn't be that great, but went anyway. We should have listened to our instincts and found something better. (Alas! we have no mobile internet device and could not Yelp during this trip!). Being that we biked 5 hours per day for 7 weeks, food almost always tasted amazing. I got a BLT, thinking to myself "this is a safe bet. You can't screw up a BLT!" ..I ended up not wanting to finish it. It came on rye bread, which to me is a bit strange for a BLT. It was a generic grocery store sliced bread, not a fresh-baked artisan bread (here's where my food snobbery starts to come out!). The bacon was bland/tough and the tomatoes were flavorless and unripe. My husband fared a little better with some chicken thing that was palatable. To be fair, the service was quick and it was a nice seating area outside. We ordered some fries and they have us a TON (almost too many). But as for the food, it was far from memorable and we wished we'd found a great hole-in-the wall place with delicious food instead. Bottom line: nice scene, good beer, but the food is lacking. Swap out the Franz bread for some bakery bread. Offer some novel, house-made sauces instead of Heinz ketchup. For what they charge, they could really enhance the details of the food and make this a truly great destination for visitors and locals alike.
(2)Josh W.
I was staying nearby for the nite, and was looking for a place i could find some good food, and some of the local brews on tap, and this place had both.. Staff is friendly too
(5)Sophie H.
Good sweet potato fries and other appetizers. But I've heard it's not the best place for young women late at night. If you go, go with a friend and come home with your friend.
(3)Rick C.
Missoula, MT: Fun Pub .... good place to watch people .... food was above average ... beer was good. This town is a college town (University of Montana -Grizzlies) ... therefore, the place was packed and it "ROCKED"!
(4)Chris B.
When I return for a Griz game or the occasional trip to see family, the I-Ho is tops on my list of place to go for that college nostalgia experience. The 501, a tasty prime rib sandwich with an amazing sauce, is by far the best thing on the menu, especially when you combine it with the garlic fries, not a fan of the sweet potato version. They have a great selection of local brews on tap, and, though not a true sports bar set up, there is enough TV coverage to keep up to date with what's going on in the wide world of sports. Head upstairs for some nice balcony seating or spend some time talking the bartender up there to let you drink from the boot. It won't be easy, but if you get the chance, remember to turn the boot so the foot is on the side to keep dry.
(4)Michael S.
Came here with a big group for dinner and drinks. My salad was very good, but others' meals weren't so well-received. Burgers and sandwiches looked good enough, but the coleslaw was more highly praised. Seems like a better place to just get hammered (saw a lot of girls drinking "Irish Trash Cans") than to get a meal.
(3)Margaux A.
I've been to the Iron Horse numerous times and I've had a good time. They have a full bar with some really good beers. I've only eating here a couple times and the service and food was good, when it starts to get really busy you have to make sure the server sees you or you may be waiting a long time. It is busy mostly on the weekends and when there are things going on during the week (such as Wasted Wednesdays). It is a great place to meet with friends and hang out. They have a couple TV's behind the bar, so if it's slow, you can watch whatever is on. They have a pool table but it tends to be occupied so you may have to wait for it. It's a great place to go with a fun and relaxed environment and I would recommend it as a place to check out when in Missoula.
(4)Linda J.
I ordered an asian glazed salmon dish, which was fairly tasty salmon on a bed of rice that was completely drenched in some kind of funny-tasting teriyaki sauce. The vegetables were well-cooked, though. We sat on the patio, which felt fun and happening, but the loud music bleeding from the bar inside was distorted and distracting. Definitely a place I'd go again if nothing else were open (they roll up the sidewalks pretty early as far as Missoula restaurants go) but it was nothing to write home about.
(2)Laura Jo A.
Good draft local beer!
(5)Nick H.
The Iron Horse is a good local brew pub in Missoula. You'll find a decent selection on bourbon and plenty of beers on tap. Also, the menu is varied enough to please almost anyone. On a recent visit, I had their buffalo wings. Having grown up in New York, I consider myself somewhat of a wing connoisseur and I have to admit that the Iron Horse's wings are excellent. Quality meaty wings with great sauce and importantly, they are cooked properly, with just a little bit of crispiness and no sogginess. You also get Bleu Cheese and celery without having to ask and at no extra cost. Props to the Iron Horse for their wings. On this night we also had the Tender 501 sandwich. Excellent and tender indeed. So good, in fact, that it would stand by itself as a great steak instead of a sandwich. Though our waitress didn't ask what temperature we'd like our meat cooked to, it came out as medium and it was just right. I'd order this again. The atmosphere in the Iron Horse is great and the building is clean and well cared for. The restaurant is often very busy and the service can be hit or miss. I've had good service there, though it missed the mark recently as we had to track down our waitress for a few items and she did not appear to be happy to be there at all. Overall, though the Iron Horse is a great place to dine and I would definitely recommend that people give it a try.
(4)Scott C.
Went here twice on a recent fishing and came away satisfied. They don't brew their own beer, but really didn't care. Sandwiches were great and beer was good. Awesome set up to the restaurant with a nice patio. Service was good.
(4)Harold C.
Love it! Every time I visit Missoula, which is quite often, The Iron Horse is a must! The menu has a wide variety of vegetarian options. Whether you're looking for appetizers or a full meal, you will be satisfied with this restaurant. I recommend the outside patio by the fire for best seat in the place.
(5)Tana Sue R.
Good vegetarian choice! It's always hard to have a huge veggie selection at a pub but they do here. I can think of almost a dozen options off the top of my head. The appetizers are awesome, salads are huge and even dessert is good. I love the nachos, tomato-basil quesadilla, stuffed asparagus ravioli (appetizer) and huge selection of mixed drinks. Down side: It can be a loud bar, the wait staff can get busy.
(4)Nathan C.
Awesome food, awesome beer, and super-fast, friendly service. We were so happy we stumbled into this place during our visit to Missoula. The college kids were a bit loud and obnoxious. The bathrooms were a little icky on the Saturday night we visited. But it was easy to overlook those cons considering the wonderful food and nice servers. I would love to go back!
(4)Jeff H.
The Iron Horse is one of the premiere hot spots in town. Any time I'm entertaining people from out of town, either work, family or friends, we always make it down to the Horse. The menu evolves every year, but old reliable is always there...the Nachos. If you or anyone you know can eat a full (or even a half) by themselves, then you should definitely take up competitive eating. They're ginormous. Great place to hit in stride around 11:00pm on the weekend (or Tues or Thurs, or...). Always a good time and the outdoor seating is probably the best in town. Not to mention the 501 Lounge addition is a great atmosphere to chill with a few friends and several cocktails.
(5)Mo S.
This place definitely has a "crowd" - college frat, but tame ones... or something like that. It was busy but not chaotic when a friend and I stopped in for a drink, on Sunday evening. The bartender made great drinks despite his grumpiness. I slurped- nay, I sipped, in proper ladylike fashion.... my Ultimate Russian. It was heavenly. Their list of shots was great too- it was nice to have a place list all the fun ones, like a Dirty Girl Scout and Cowboy Cocksucker ( those seemed very, um, Montanan....). Overall a good sports-pub vibe, a great prelude to the backyard campfire that followed that night.
(3)Toby V.
Great sports bar atmosphere average food.
(3)Thenameless C.
Empty during the day last Thursday. I order a Moose Drool. 1/4 of the way into the glass I realize I'm getting lip gloss on my lips...from the dirty glass. Bartender hands me a napkin. Previous shift sits next to me at the bar and starts counting tips. Then complaining how they didn't make enough and what lousy tippers the customers were. I think to myself, you serve them in unwashed glasses, what do you expect. Left $.50 for my beer and went to the next brewery.
(1)Terri B.
Traveling through Montana, we take a detour through downtown Missoula and stumble across the Iron Horse Brew Pub right about lunch time, so we stop in for a quick bite. The service was friendly and efficient. The place was full of locals who all know each other and enjoy having a drink together. The food was quite good, a bit typical of a bar. Ordering the soup and 1/2 sandwich, I chose the black bean soup and it was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and the sandwich was a step above bar food. Give it a try when in the area, I don't think you will be disappointed.
(4)J D.
this place sucks. behind the bar was a surly bartender that acted pissed off that i didn't like his first recommendation, but that was just the start. the menu is a short list of greasy offerings, which i'm down with if it's done well. i ordered a half order of nachos with chicken which was half the size of my body and it looked good (when it finally came after 25 min), but the bits of chicken were small and tasteless and soft (like it was boiled) and everything but the outer layer was cold. atmosphere: the exterior is nice looking and they do have some outside seating. crowd: really drunk under-agers, or maybe that's just on weeknights?
(1)Alicia O.
My boyfriend just moved to Missoula, so I need to be looking for some good eatins and drinkins because this could eventually be my new home! I loved it. I love that there is outside service! And the great thing is, there is ALOT of outside seating. Not just a couple of picnic tables... but alot of normal resteraunt tables. I oredered a cocktail called "strawberry sex". It was rasberry vodka, something else... you know what? I dont remember...But what I do remember is that it was delicious and I was totally buzzed after I drank it. The food was great! But my boy's fries sucked. That was the only bad thing. Lots of drunks, .good food. cool atmosphere, I like it.

The only reason I'm giving this restaurant even one star is because the bathroom was in good shape. Let me start off by saying that we went there after the Marathon, and they didn't schedule extra people to accommodate large crowds. We waited an hour for a table (what kind of place that has a 300 person capacity does open seating?). When we finally ordered the waiter didn't even ask us for drinks and skipped me at the table (I had to call him back before he walked away). We had two finishers sitting at the table, two other adults and a toddler and all of us were starving. It took another hour to get our food after we ordered, and there were no chips or bread or anything to snack on. When our food came, four out of five of our meals (all of them were burgers) were burned to a crisp and were inedible. When we finally flagged down the waiter, we let him know and he went back to the kitchen to tell the cooks. He apologized, but they didn't offer to redo our order, and we had to ask him to get the meals comped. We only ended up getting three of the four meals comped. If the waiter and the bussers hadn't been working so hard, we wouldn't have tipped them, it was so bad. The manager didn't even come out to apologize. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through Missoula. I'm totally shocked at the lack of integrity in the kitchen.

Had a lunch steak sandwich which was really good. Big fat medallions not that shaved stuff or the skinny slices. Also swt potato fries make you feel virtuous. My GF had the buffalo chx salad, which I thought was too hot w/o much flavor. We are not partyers & the great thing about this place is it accomodates everyone. The outside seating is great!
