Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Just terrible. Food was bland and took way too long considering hardly anyone was there. Our Mongolian beef was almost completely onions with maybe 3 actual pieces of beef and the egg foo young was unrecognizable from anything you may have ordered before at a Chinese restaurant, not to mention disgusting. Drive the extra miles to eat somewhere else.

I called to place a delivery order. I was immediately "placed on hold" aka they set the phone down and then I listened to them shouting around in the background. Finally I was hung up on 5 minutes later. Needless to say I didn't call back.

I've eaten a lot of Chinese food, lots of good Chinese food, some bad Chinese food and some truly incredible Chinese food. And that is all over the US from coast to coast, from the north to the south. China Bowl is not at the top of the short list but they are way up there on the recommend if in the area list. I've passed through Missoula quite a bit lately and I have never been disappointed with the food at China Bowl. The hot and sour is not entirely traditional but does have slight sour and slightly hot notes but is also loaded with tons of tofu, egg, and loads of veggies. The fried rice is among the best I have ever had, even when traveling in Asia. Not soaked in soy sauce or fully grease laden the rice is fluffy, flavorful from being seasoned by oil flavored with garlic and ginger. The service is good. Wait staff are good about answering questions and most importantly if they don't know the answer they don't BS their way through the question and rather run back to the kitchen to get a proper response to your question. If you want your food smothered in nasty brown sauce with no flavor you should head elsewhere. I, on the other hand will be sure to return to China Bowl the next time I am back in Missoula for yet another tasty meal. PS. Be sure to check out their koi pond inside the restaurant. Beautiful fish!

Ordered for delivery curt/rude phone operator, slow to arrive (estimated 1 hour, arrived 1.5), forgot half of my order, portion delivered was cold and dried out, presumably due to an overloaded delivery driver. Did not bother to call and complain because I paid cash and didn't want to take a trip over there or spend another hour and a half waiting, instead will take business to other local takeout Chinese restaurants. Absolutely would not recommend risking the embarrassment of incomplete/slow/low quality food with visitors.

Would NEVER recommend this place. Service was terrible....even to the point of rudeness. The food was BEYOND subpar....and tasted greasy. None of the ingredients were fresh. Shouldn't have wasted our $22 on the nasty excuse for a meal.

PROS: convenient location, plenty parking, plenty seats/tables, large space CONS: food was so so at best, greasy food, rice was dry, rice bowl was half broken (water won't be able to stay in the bowl broken), pricy for the quality, only two waitresses for the whole restaurant and take out orders (both waitresses are efficient, but the wait is still long due to poor waitress customer ratio) This restaurant may not be too bad for Montana standard but it's by no means good.

Yuck!! Please go somewhere else. I only had to eat here once to realize how bad this was. One and done, is all I can say.

I've ordered here twice for delivery and was highly satisfied both occasions. They deliver for free all the way to the South Hills and take orders for delivery until 9:30, which is awesome! The Kung Pao Chicken and Krab Rangoons are my favorite so far, along with the fried rice. The lady who took my orders was very easy to understand and nice to talk to, and the delivery driver (an older Asian man) is so polite and hilarious! He really liked our cat, which I thought was cool. He also gave us a free soup because we tipped him generously. I'll definitely be ordering from here again, and hope to dine in when we are on that end of town.

do not be fooled by these five-star givin' fools! i don't know what y'all are thinkin. have you ever been out of montana? have you ever had ~*authentic*~ chinese food?!? i'm so worried about you. y'alls tongues okay? brain workin' and all that? 5 stars? really???? -- as we pulled into the empty parking lot we both said, "this probably won't be very good." there was just something about it... but i was craving asian cuisine and all of the better places in town (sa wad dee, vietnam grill, sushi nara) were closed. the restaurant was even more deserted than the parking lot. to be fair, it was just past 9pm. but it's friday! we didn't wait long to be seated. the waitress was nice and courteous. we looked over the menu for a while, i asked for steamed potstickers to start with. they came quickly. too quickly. liiiiiiiike. way too quickly to be fresh. the texture of the meat inside reminded me of microwaved vienna sausage, the flavor was alright though. for dipping she brought us a bowl of what tasted like just literally the saltiest soy sauce i've ever had. for dinner i ordered curry chicken with a bowl of hot & sour soup. my girlfriend got the lunch special (now serving lunch all day!) - general's chicken and fried rice, and wonton soup. the soup came quickly. i actually enjoyed mine, it was spicy enough and the flavor was pretty good. hers tasted mostly like a bowl of broccoli water, but i didn't taste the wontons myself. when the entrees came, i knew it was all wrong. the colors seemed off to me somehow. i tried to start with a bite of cauliflower but it was hard as a rock. i went in for the chicken and at first it tasted pretty bland, not at all spicy (as advertised on the menu) and the aftertaste was similar to that of vomit. (sorry, that's soooo gross) (at least it didn't happen to you) (i MEAN this happened to me! i was just trynna eat some damn chinese food!) from across the table, my girlfriend shot me a pained look and said "this is the worst general's chicken i've ever had." that is a SERIOUS accusation. she was right though. it was like mcdonald's tried to do chinese food. honestly, i'm not the type of person to send food back or refuse to pay for something. even if i'm not into the food i respect the effort that went into making it, but i could not abide this. this shit was wack. i went up to the waitress and apologized but damn, this food is TERRIBLE. she only charged us for the soup & pot stickers which was fine with me, those things were aight & we ate most of them. we took the fortune cookies she left too - which were hard as rocks and tasted like dust. also am i the only one who thinks it's weird they serve saltine crackers with their soup? i mean i love saltines and everything but

We tried China Bowl once on an anniversary trip. I'm pretty sure the green pepper in my dish had some kind of mold on it. (I could taste it). I mentioned it to the waiter and he just shrugged his shoulders at it. I considered contacting the health department. They didn't offer a replacement dish and still made us pay full price. Never again.

Price is good, food was delicious, only minor complaint is that the guy working seemed a bit grumpy. I won't judge the restaurant because who hasn't had a bad day and as long as the food comes out good then I'm happy.

Very good. Great service. Nice and quite with the sound of the fish pond. Very nice will be back.

From the moment we walked in, we had a sense of foreboding. I'm surprised at the current reviews of this place for many reasons, a minor one being people saying it has a "calming atmosphere". It was grimy, the decor looks tacky and outdated, the pond looks dirty and overcrowded with fish. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is that the waitress was JUST polite enough that I feel like she's probably a nice honest person. We started with steamed potstickers. They were bland, slimy, and certainly tasted frozen (as did all of the veggies that came with our meals). The sauce was just soy sauce, way too much salt for my taste. I ordered General's Chicken and wonton soup. The wonton soup came out first and there was literally a bug crawling around on our table that flew into it. I'm not too squeamish, so I fished the little guy out and dug into the soup anyway. Suddenly I was overwhelmed with the taste of salty boiled broccoli. In short, the wonton soup isn't bad if you super love boiled broccoli. Then the General's Chicken came out. Wow, where do I start? I am a big fan of general tsao's chicken and probably have ordered it at every Chinese place I've ever been to. This was the blandest, palest, most unappetizing dish I've ever tasted. The only positive thing I have to say is that the batter on the chicken was crispy enough. The fried rice was extremely dry. I took one bite and couldn't eat more than that. Honestly, the only thing worse that I've ever tasted at a Chinese restaurant is the curry chicken that my girlfriend got. I won't even get into describing that, since we both came home and were so disgusted that we had to sit down and write separate Yelp reviews even though neither of us ever use Yelp. For those of you who do, please spare yourselves and check out one of the other Chinese places in town. Triple Dragon is good, New Hong Kong Chef is pretty good. How about you just go for Thai food or sushi instead tonight? We sent our entrees back to the kitchen and only paid for our appetizers. This is the first time in my life that I've ever sent food back. The waitress and kitchen seemed shocked and annoyed, as if this had never happened before...Which if true, is pretty shocking to me. The waitress was polite to our faces though and didn't make us pay for the entrees that we didn't eat.

terrible service and bad tasting food. sad excuse for a chinese restaurant

Wait time was long. I think there were only 3 people working however we needed the charge phones so waiting was not too bad. Food was good.

My dining experience at China Bowl was disappointing. The food was bland and the service was slow. I had high hopes for the two Chinese food standards that we were going to share - Sweet and Sour Pork and General Chicken - but they were both really bland (might as well have tasted the same, frankly) and chewy. The restaurant was 75% empty, and yet it still took about a half an hour to get our food. The only redeeming quality? The inside is very well decorated. There are tons of other places to get Chinese/Asian food in town, you would probably be better off eating at one of those.

In my attempts to eat pho every night while driving across country from providence to Portland I fell short on the last evening in Missoula, Montana. I had selected a few pho restaurants but seeing as it was a Sunday night and past 8pm when I got in to town both restaurants were closed; so I thought I should at least stick with the Asian cuisine and opted for Chinese. With my handy garmin nuvi I found China Bowl near to the motel I was staying at. With the luck I was having that night I was so excited to see the restaurant was still open. I ordered the vegetable broccoli dish and egg drop soup. The staff was very friendly and prompt with my food order. They even made sure to sauté my broccoli in less oil per my request. I had gotten the food to go and it really did hit the spot as I relaxed in my hotel room watching some movie I can't even remember at this time.

I love the food here! They have great authentic Chinese food. If looking for delicious food and great portion sizes this place is great, they even have the more Americanized dishes like sweet and sour and generals chicken. My favorite are the tofu dishes, fried rice and kung pao tofu.

Went to China Bowl this evening, it was busy, so i'll give a pass on this, but the service was kind of slow. The hot tea was served luke warm at best with massive amounts of particulate in it, after a complaint about the temp of the "hot" tea it came back slightly warmer... my lemon chicken came came out tasting like it was fried in a deep fryer that had had had something burnt in it and they hadn't changed the oil since; some of it was too tough to even chew (this from a guy who eats a lot of beef jerky), and there was nothing mixed in with the lemon chicken, literally just rice and, poorly prepared meat with a little bit of sauce. the decorating was actually kind of nice, but there was a goldfish pond at the entrance, the water was so murky that i questioned how the giant goldfish were still alive...they're hardy creatures i'm sure. i'm no fashion guru, but one of the waitresses was dressed in what had to have been at least a 3 year old ratty lime green sweatshirt; and what can only be described as a 1982 purple/light purple striped "clit-hugger" ultra short skirt, i'm kind of tall and she wasn't my waitress, but i'm sure all the little kids she waited on got a glimpse of underwear. (it would have been funny if there was some comedic intent behind it). not sure how this place is still in business but i'll never be back that's for sure.

Ordered shrimp chow mein and veggie spring roll it was nice and crispy. Tea was good. Calming atmosphere. Got the check a little too early but it was mid day and not busy. I will come again and try the fancy seafood dishes !

Another restaurant in town told me they were too busy to deliver as far out as I was and boy, was I glad in the end. I called China Bowl, and they told me when I called it would take an hour to get here. At first I thought it might get here lukewarm, but it was excellent. The lady who answered the phone was spot-on in her recommendation. I told her I wanted something spicy with shrimp and lots of veggies. She suggested the Hunan Shrimp and they delivered it hot and perfectly cooked! The shrimp were plump, juicy, and so flavorful, and that can be hard to do when you're cooking them at home and eating them right out of the pan. I think the driver cooked my dinner in his car.... really. :)

We spent way too much money for very poor food. The Mandarin Chicken was unlike any other we have ever had. Mostly sliced onions and very little chicken with even less flavor. Sweet 'n Sour Chicken had very thin sauce with a vinegar taste. Egg Rolls are not even worth writing about. Save your hard earned money.

We never could figure why this place is not liked by the blogs. We have been eating there for twenty years. I like many of their Chinese regional dishes HOT. When I order, my dishes always come just the way I want them. I can see that many people order the bland Cantonese dishes that they know. We order Hunan, or Mongol dishes and they are all excellent. They use plenty of Chinese peppers, if you want them. Canton Chinese uses no hot peppers. The food always comes out about ten to fifteen minutes after our order. Plates are always full. Service is good. This week we sat there watching the take home orders that came in and out every three to five minutes at dinner time. Always very fresh food. Tell them your special wishes, they will comply.
