I just joined Yelp and was checking out the reviews in or new my home town. I was absolutely shocked that the Lolo Creek Steakhouse did not appear even though Subway and Burger King did. Being a university town and all, Missoula has quite a few fine restaurants for a small city, but none can even come close to the atmosphere at the Steakhouse. I dare to say that if you are traveling through and are not a vegetarian, then you absolutely should check it out. The Steakhouse It is in cedar log building decorated with elaborate taxidermy mounts including an amazing tableau of wolves taking down a caribou. Steaks are cooked "cowboy style" over an open flame and are among the best in the state (remember, you come to a steakhouse for the steak). The staff is attentive and friendly. You can even get a huckleberry daiquiri. Top it all off with a coconut macaroon brownie sundae, 1000 calories of sinful decadence.

This steak house is amazing. We came here on a road trip to ohio. The steaks were amazing and the service was even better. Here you can get 3 to 4 great steaks for under $100. This deserves more than 5 stars

Very good tenderloin. As far as Bitterroot restaurants go, it's high priced - as far as nice steakhouses go, it not high priced at all. With Bitterroot restaurants leaning more towards heavy comfort food, Lolo Steakhouse is a refreshing change of quality. They've cleaned up and polished the place in the last 3 years. It's quite nice! Still a taxidermy haven, so if critters watching you devour their meaty cousins makes you nervous...perhaps this place (or Montana) isn't the place for you. We always love this place!

Quick question for you: How far did your beef travel the last time you had a great grilled steak? How big was its carbon hoofprint? (... awkward silence). Well, if you are in Lolo, Montana, the answer can be "just down the road." I saw the cows in the meadow not but 15 minutes ago. They looked ... tasty. Most of the steaks here are Midwestern corn fed USDA certified, but they also serve local grass-fed Angus beef from the OZ Lolo Trail Ranch ( lolotrailranch.com ), which makes these steaks really local. You could walk to the beef, if you wanted to. And the grill at the steakhouse is on the Montana list of natural wonders, almost: a huge expanse of fire and iron and smoke. Plus, there is local whiskey at the bar, which goes great with a black coffee at the end of your meat, potatoes, and vegetable meal. Can't get much fresher than that. (Unless you butchered the cow yourself, that is).

We were looking for a place for dinner- leaning toward a steakhouse- in Missoula. We went through 253 restaurants on Yelp before we found the Lolo Creek Steakhouse (restaurant #254). So we made the short drive to Lolo. SO glad we did! Good drink menu. Complimentary vege tray for appetizer. All meals come with salad, a huge piece of garlic bread and a perfectly cooked baked potato. (For only $1 more, you can get your baked potato loaded with cheese, bacon and onions.) Our server, Elaine, was fantastic. She attended to our every request and provided us with a complimentary piece of mud pie in celebration of our anniversary. (The mud pies was really good!) As to the steaks...we both ordered the rib eye. Both were perfectly cooked medium rare- exactly as we ordered them. The guy preparing the steaks tonight, Anson, has been there for 20 years. He really knows how to cook a steak!

Passing through town asked a local where he went for a great steak and he immediately said Lolo Steakhouse. A short drive out of Missoula, we arrived at a beautiful log building. It's even more interesting inside, logs, mounts, and great grilling take center stage. We had no reservations, parking lot was full but we were greeted with a friendly smile and seated immediately Steaks were done perfectly and the sides wonderful. Very swift and friendly wait people. Even a great free dessert if we liked them on FB. Mud pie was very yummy. We will be back when in town.

This is exactly what you expect a steakhouse in Montana to be like! When we pulled into the parking lot, there were deer surrounding the restaurant! When you walk in the restaurant has a true Montana feel, with a big grill right in the middle of the room to taxidermy animals all around you! We started with mushrooms in butter, they were yummy! The salads we simple and straightforward with good croutons. Everyone at the table ordered different steaks, The Montana, Lolo, New York with blue cheese and the Ribeye. Everyone was stuffed and satisfied when we left! The portions are generous.

My uncle insisted that we dine here while I was visiting from Washington and my Aunt was visiting from Alaska. We walked in without a reservation and we were greeted with a smile and did not have to wait for a table. The taxidermy is amazing and the log building is very warm and comfortable. The wood fired grill is next to the bar center stage complete with a couple of steak cooks looking very satisfied with their job as they intently watch the steaks cook. The wait staff is spectacular. They have one person for drink service and another that takes care of all the other waitress stuff's. Instead of bread they brought fresh vegtables with ranch to munch on while we reviewed the menu and waited for our bar order. I had a Coldsmoke which is on tap along with a few other really good local brews, which made it a difficult choice and my aunt ordered a Vodka Collins. Both were very good. We all three ordered the Porterhouse Steak special. The salad was very fast and very good. I had the Ceasar salad. The only thing that was missing was the crushed pepper on top. Steaks all came cooked they way they were supposed to be, if not a little undercooked. I'd rather have an undercooked steak than an overcooked steak. Its a quick fix to put an undercooked steak on for a few more minutes rather than starting over. The mashed red garlic potatoes were very good and the garlic toast was perfect. My only complaint was that the steak was a little fatty with some chewy spots. Next time I will get the Ribeye.

So delicious!! We eat here often and are never disappointed. Steaks are always fabulous and one of my favorites sides is their sweet potatoes. Great staff and great food.

I was in Missoula on business and looking for a good steak. I mean Montana right? Has to be good steak someplace. Saw Lolo Creek Steakhouse on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Reviews were generally really good. Loved the feel of the place. Walked in the door and the owner was greeting every single group. Locals by name and with some personal detail. Super friendly wait staff got us seated right away and had a yummy beer on the table just a couple minutes after ordering it. Food: Fortunately it was Prime Rib night. Really good cut brought out a true medium rare. Tender, tasty, blissful. Garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. Service was amazing, time to food on the table was short. LOVED the huge wood fired grill right up front. I would recommend them to any carnivore looking for a great meal and will be going back next time I'm in town.
(4)Jim G.
I like the vegetable plate instead of bread, even if it is weird. The steak was good but could use a little seasoning, the loaded baked potato was good. What wouldn't be with cheese and bacon on it? I think the decor is awesome, my kind of place. I don't recommend the lobster though.
(4)Jeff F.
Great food! Great steak! Great desserts! This is a great place to east and for a celebration. Nice atmosphere in a log building. The steaks are grilled over an open fire.
(5)Stefan I.
Terribly, terribly mediocre. Far overrated in my opinion. If this is the best Montana has to offer, America is in trouble. Three of us had dinner on a Thursday night. Drinks were decent. One of my companions ordered a shrimp cocktail. Not served as a traditional cocktail. Just thawed shrimp, on a bed of ice, with dipping sauce. Our major objections were this: (1) mediocre meat for the two sirloins, tough and lacking any visible seasoning or taste, (2) presentation quite poor. One pays a lot for this food ($160+ for three people) and we were served up steaks on metal platters, with undercooked baked potatoes and the dressings for the baked potatoes served in a side dish. Finally, the place was fairly noisy, in spite of being only half full and my chair vibrated about every ten minutes when a compressor in the basement ran. When I mentioned this to the server, I was met with a look of incredulity and no offer to move us elsewhere (in spite of the abundance of spare tables). In general, a very disappointing experience. Certainly a notch down from a common Outback Steakhouse and in no way memorable other than to say "don't go there". IMO, the Montana Club offers better steaks for a fair bit less. I've eaten at steakhouses all over America and I'm not simply objecting to the presentation - serve me on a metal plate if you're offering an excellently cooked and seasoned steak and I'll accept it if the price matches. But to charge sky-high prices and not present the food well and to not season it well, is just unacceptable.
(2)Don S.
Great place to enjoy a steak! The restaurant is what western steakhouses should look like. The steaks are not the best I have ever had but they are good! Loved the fresh veggies to snack on before your meal arrived. My Baked potato was excellent. Salad was just fine. We shared an ahi appetizer and it was very tasty. Make sure to emphasis you want your steak medium rare , if thats your desire, as it seemed the cook was a bit long on cooking times based on peoples complaints around us. Our table enjoyed chops, salmon, ribeye, and sirloin. All good and all cooked correctly. They have plenty of beers and wines available. This place is not cheap and a bit overpriced for a cowboy type steakhouse so its why I kept this at 4 stars.
(4)David G.
Well worth the beautiful short drive to the "country". The atmosphere is is homey with the grill out front and the hides hanging on the walls. I had the Lolo Creek Sirloin, it was cooked a bit too long for medium-rare, however, it had a great flavor which encouraged me to leave the steak sauce in the bottle. The spring salad was very fresh and the add-on of shimp was perfect. I'll be back when I'm in town again!
(5)Nicholas F.
Wow! Probably one of the top meals iv had, steak was amazing and crab legs on point! My wife made the comment that this was the best baked potato she had ever had. I mean a baked potato.... Bring your wallet in and spoil yourself this place is damn good!
(5)Mikey X.
Meh. That about sums up this place. The service is the high point, by far. The waitresses were all quick and friendly and seemed to enjoy working here. But the food...so you go to a steakhouse for expertly-prepared steaks, right? Thought so. But here, the steaks seem haphazardly and unevenly cooked, and the sides seemed colder than they ought to be. I mean, it's not terrible, by for the steep prices and upscale allure this place has, your money could definitely be better spent elsewhere.
(2)Morgan B.
I always enjoy the drive from Missoula to Lolo for their steaks. They have a great atmosphere, friendly service, and their steaks are always prepared perfectly. You can't find a better place in the area!
(5)Toly M.
Fantastic steak. Grilled on a open grill with western larch as the wood used. I like my steak rare. Came out a tad done but nonetheless it was great. The sweet potato was fantastic, it wasn't your average orange looking yam. Fresh veggies to munch on while the steak was getting prepped.

You can't go wrong coming here. Sets the bar for Western steakhouses. Great, well-prepared meats and cuts, fantastic, immediate service in a comfortable friendly environment that is much easier on the wallet than 'upscale' steakhouse joints without compromising quality. Plenty of beers (including local) on draft along with wines. Actually, their ahi tuna is one of my dad's favorite dishes on the menu and he knows the whole thing quite well. I had the surf and turf and was really impressed by how delicious their lobster was. Too, their horseradish is the REAL DEAL. I might have become a sadistic addict to the stuff.
(5)Justin P.
This is our favorite anywhere around Missoula for birthdays and holidays, and to bring out of towners. Great steaks and I love the seafood combos. They also make great Caesars and bloody Mary's. Service is always great and all the mounts are really cool. No reservations; can be a wait some days.
(5)Chris G.
I always take out of town guest here as it is a classic "Montana" steakhouse. I have had great steaks here but the past few times I have been disappointed. The steaks are under seasoned. I would go back as it is friendly and great atmosphere but season the food.
(3)Orphanthal J.
Great steak, great halibut. Service was excellent.
(5)Michael S.
This place came highly recommended by the locals. Classic Monatana steakhouse - log cabin, big cuts of meat, and lots of big game on the walls. Steak is the name of the game, obviously, and they don't disappoint with delicious slabs of locally raised beef. Sides were typical but good for a steakhouse - baked potato, sweet potato, etc.
(4)Jed L.
I don't like posting a two-star review, especially for a local small business, but after talking to a friend who had a similar experience on a different night, I feel compelled to post. Long story short, the Lolo Creek Steakhouse is on the high end of the price scale for the area and at the very bottom end of the quality scale for what you get. Lolo is in Montana. Montana is a state that runs on beef. Cows outnumber people in Montana four to one. Vegetarianism is a misdemeanor, veganism is a felony. Montanans care about steak, and there's no excuse for not cooking a steak right - especially if you're a steakhouse. The Lolo Creek Steakhouse should be amazing. It's got all the pieces. It's a log-cabin themed establishment located at the mouth of Lolo Canyon. This is not only a gateway to incredible outdoor adventures, but also Lolo Hot Springs (made famous by the book/movie A River Runs Through It) and the historic Lewis & Clark Trail. Inside, the ambiance is perfect. You've got some incredible taxidermy on the walls and a fully stocked western bar. The menu is what you'd expect. So the actual food was a tremendous disappointment when it failed so miserably to live up to the expectations. Four of us in the party ordered a salmon and sirloin special. We all ordered the steaks medium; they all came out much closer to well done. The meat was dry and chewy and surprisingly bland. They served the meal on a metal plate that had a rather deep lip which made it difficult to saw into the meat (which took some effort because of how it was prepared). But the worst part of the meal was the salmon. I've never had a salmon filet that was this bad. It was overcooked, dry and very tough. You could literally stab it with a fork and pick up the whole thing like it was a popsicle. Not only was it poorly prepared, but like the steak, it was quite bland. No one at the table was happy with their order, and the final tab was pretty rough considering. Like I said, I hope the chef was off that night or something and that this isn't the normal fare. All I can say is it's very unlikely that I'll be ponying up the money to try again.
(2)Adam S.
Super cool spot. Cozy interior with crazy taxidermy all over the walls. Steaks are cooked over a big fire pit in the middle of the restaurant, by a laser-focused grill-master, who knows what he is doing. I had a well-made Manhattan, caesar salad, and porterhouse. Everything came out perfect.
(4)Tim D.
A nice restaurant with attentive staff. The food was good, but nothing really floored me. My steak was tasty, and cooked properly, but I'll agree with other reviewers that it was spendy for what it was. I'd just expected something more for a well-reviewed steakhouse in Montana. Being Texan, I'm picky about steak, and always feel chagrined paying too much for it. All that said, the decor was really nice. The people were really nice. It just doesn't live up to the hype the locals I asked were giving it, for the price I paid.
(3)Sherry V.
While visiting my daughter in Missoula, she recommended we go to lolo's. What a great decision! The service was amazing, the food was wonderful. The restaurant is beautiful. A terrific menu. A must go to while in the area.
(5)S H.
Overpriced Sizzler! Terrible service, okay steaks, terrible salads and sides. Dinner for 2 with one drink each $100.
(1)Nicholas C.
Delicious steak I heard this was the "must go to" steakhouse if you pass thru missoula. So after reading the reviews i decided what the hell, whats a few more dollars for a good steak. The decor was definitely awesome. Log style cabin, moose heads, bears, elk, deer, wolves fighting big antler looking animals. All sort of cool country stuff. The service was average, and the drinks were good (blackberry mojito yummy). I had the ribeye medium-well. The steak came out juicy and delicious. I wont say it was my best steak because it didnt melt in my mouth, BUT it was definitely up there. To make this place better i'd have to say please lower your prices, although an above average steak the price seems like it deters costumers away.
(4)David D.
Great atmosphere, great service, excellent food. Had smoked salmon and brie appetizer, 6oz steak perfectly cooked and topped with sautéed mushrooms, scallops, baked potato, and salad. Bloody Mary was good. The place was full as we finished our early meal. No room for dessert, but saw one go by that looked yummy. Short drive from Missoula and well worth the experience. Concur $$$.
(4)Sam L.
I will be back!!! Yum this place is the bomb!!! Amazing drinks and awesome food, pricey but well worth it..
(5)Matt S.
I ordered a burger with everything on it and a baked potato with everything on it. Most of the toppings were served on the side. What a terrible idea! Obviously I want them on there if I ordered them. Why should I have to assemble my own meal? There was no way to eat the resulting burger without making a terrible mess. Also, my burger was overcooked and under-seasoned and the bun was soggy. The baked potato was undercooked and not hot enough. Mussels were cooked correctly but the broth tasted like cheap white wine and not much else. I was charged more for the extras then the menu indicated but it wasn't worth it to me to complain about three dollars. This was one of the worst meals I've ever been served at a non-fast food restaurant.
(1)Ken F.
If you're a fan of large steaks and relate completely to Ron Swanson, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Everything revolves around the meat here with a giant wood fire in the front over which all the steaks are cooked. A full bar and delicious accompaniments, complete your meal. Incredible mounts all over the place watch you eat while the log building really drive home the fact that you're in Montana. Eat the steaks and the potato skins. Both are epic.
(5)Alan Y.
Great food, great service, awesome atmosphere! Do NOT eat anything at all before you go there...SO MUCH FOOD!!
(5)Blanche F.
This is a great restaurant. The atmosphere was great, the servers friendly, and the meal was super. Sweet potato as an option was super also. A 5 star for me.
(5)Mitch K.
Situated in a beautiful log cabin built from trees cut down on the site. Family run, friendly, very western/Montana atmosphere with stuffed wildlife on the walls and beams, large wood-fired grill upon which most all of the meats are cooked, bar area and the nicest wait staff you could imagine. If you don't like you meal, for any reason, have the cajones to point it out to your server and they will make it good for you. This is a family operation and they want happy customers that will come back. Steak and chops are the name of the game (pun intended) and the family uses local a couple of local ranches that age the meat to their specifications. Again, if you get a bad/tough/flavorless hunk of meat...let them know. You get a nice relish tray, a rarity now-a-days, the salads are a nice mix of greens and the meat comes with a variety of starches and you can get extras like grilled onions and mushrooms. Ask for what you want, but if you get too fancy the answer most likely will be "no". We take visitors here on a regular basis to put them into a Montana mood. People are friendly and helpful just about everywhere. Guy's is local, successful and good. Enjoy the Montana ambiance.
(4)Ken O.
Very ordinary food...excellent atmosphere and service, but the food does not live up to the hype. Ever since we arrived in the area five years ago, everyone has raved about this place. We tried it three different times and were disappointed each time. We've been told the quality of the food went south after a change in ownership (but have no way of knowing if that's true as we weren't here before). Both The Depot and Jakers have served better steaks in Missoula.
(3)Nico A.
Come here if you want to leave in the greatest food coma of your life! It's a little pricey but a good steak in the Missoula area isn't cheap! It's definitely up there with the best Steak in these parts. The drinks are also pretty pricey so this is a place for a once in a lifetime treat! The restaurant itself is very homey with the log cabin feel and it doesn't get too noisy so you can still have a good conversation with your company here.
(5)Sarah R.
We visited Missoula for our second time this past summer. I found an ad for this steakhouse and I begged my fiance to drive the extra 10 miles to lolo. Wow, this place was Amazing!!! The log cabin is adorable, the taxidermy throughout the restaurant is awesome to look at, and the service was great! The food was soooooooo delish. I got a red angus from a farm down road. It was cooked to perfection. I wish I did not live so far from here but I hope we can make it out again next summer because Lolo steakhouse is always on my mind :)
(5)A W.
Awesome ambiance, awesome steak but prepared to spend some moolah!!
(5)Will B.
I love the rustic feel of this place. The service is decent and the steak is pretty good. It just doesn't live up to the cost. but I just can't not go.
(3)Kira M.
Another must stop when I visit Missoula. this is a true Montana steak house experience. The steak is simple with no frills and lets you really taste the meat. I almost always go for the T-bone topped with mushrooms and a baked potato. Sometimes I add the crab leggs but then I always take home half of the steak. ( actually I do that anyway the steaks are big) It has always been cooked at a perfect med-rare for me. Just dont orger the shrimp cocktail, ever, the pre made trays at the grocery store are better...it was no good. Food: is great Service:no complaints Decore: lots of animals and horns, very Montana
(4)Nora M.
After moving to Lolo, we have eaten at the Lolo Creek Steakhouse a number of times. The raw veggie plate, in place of the usual bread is a very nice twist. After the veggies, you feel that you have done your service to mankind and your body and have a nice juicy steak. The service is steakhouse/local friendly. The food is excellent, if not perfect (baked potato was a little less than perfect.) The steaks are just right, and the seafood is great, even so far from the ocean. The taxidermy keeps your eyes busy until your dinner arrives. The occasional flame off the wood-fired grill adds to the ambiance. If there is a downside, it's that the dining room becomes very loud when the restaurant is full, which seems very strange considering how much shape there is in the ceiling and walls.
(4)Kurt H.
Lolo creek was recommended as the best steak place in the Missoula area so we decided to drop in while in town fishing. The ambiance and setting is very rustic with large open beams, vaulted ceilings and just about every game animal stuffed on the walls. A really nice dining area. We had a few minute wait on our table so we sat at the bar. Service was quick and courteous. We were seated just minutes later. The menu features predominantly steak but there were a few other choices, but not a lot of appetizer choices. We both had the ribeye steak and loaded potato. The steaks were cooked perfectly (medium rare) with a nice char. While the steak tasted good both weren't overly juicy which was surprising. Again excellent wait staff checked on us frequently for drinks, etc. When I'm back in town I may try them again.

Went here on my recent trip to Montana. We had my husband's birthday dinner here. After 6 years of living in Missoula and never going here ( was always to broke) I finally made the trek 8 miles south of Missoula. I love the log cabin feel of the restaurant. It is a spacious dining room. The staff is friendly and attentive and works together well. Prices range from around 11.99 and up to $40 for meals. They have a full bar. I got the Beef Tip Dinner which came with a salad and baked potato. it was very generous portion wise and I had some to take back to the hotel with me, as I saw most other people left with to go bags as well. My husband got a steak.....which he devoured. Each table also gets a "relish tray" which is carrots, brocolli, cauliflower and celery with ranch dressing to dip it in. Refreshing from the usual bread basket.
(4)Bev G.
Wonderful service, even at 7pm. True Montana decor, animal heads and all displayed in a pleasing way. The baked sweet pot. Was yummy and the New York strip steaks were lean and cooked to perfection. Even the homemade cheese cake was not to sweet. Just fantastic dinner out for 60$.
(5)Megan C.
We came here for dinner and I really liked it we got a steak and bbq chicken that my husband and I shared and I dont even like bbq sauce and I loed this bbq sauce. it was really good. The steak was also very good. everything else was just ok but the meat is well worth the visit. I also like that they leave a pitcher of water at your table. server was great as was everyone else that was working there.
(4)Mark M.
This used to be a great place to eat but has really gone down hill. Expect to pay $25-$30 per person for an entree. I've had the steak and halibut and both were below average. My steak was so tough, it was like chewing tree bark. The halibut was fishy and just plain disgusting. The portions are small and the service is average. There are many other places to eat at that not only taste better but save you money. However if you want a restaurant with a Montana outdoors feel to it, this is the place.
(2)Scott C.
Went here a couple weeks ago during a fishing trip to Montana and it was the best meal on our trip. I had the sirloin and NY strip on 2 different occasions and both were great. Great atmosphere with a log cabin feel and their grill is right on the floor. There was no fat on the steak and I ate the whole thing. It was the best steak I've ever had and don't believe these list of best steakhouses in America with places in NY or Chicago. Ever seen a cow in Chicago. You can look out the window here and see them.
