Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. When you're getting a pitcher of Arnold Palmer when only expecting a glass, or your 16oz prime rib is larger than that, is good service actually needed? Sometimes. We just didn't for our group get the waitress to come back to re-fill some of the folk's water glasses, or their other drinks. The check too, took a while. Portion wise, it's all on the large size, even the included salad with the entree. So no complaints on the food. I'd go back for the portions and food though. Service, perhaps I'll sit at the bar?

Pretty pricey for average food. Fun "old time" atmosphere though...

I was in Helena on business. My hotel suggested this restaurant and I went over for a late dinner. It is a nice comfortable pub style restaurant with a separate bar and dining area. I sat in the bar and had two great local craft beers. There was a nice selection from the local area. After looking over the menu which had a lot of great looking options, I decided on the tuna appetizer sandwich but replacing the bread with a nice mixed greens salad. The server was very accommodating and helpful in suggesting this. It was a large piece of tuna which was seared and covered in a blackened finish. It was just what I needed and presented nicely with a heaping of greens and tomatoes. Other than my meal which was an appetizer being pricey at $16, I would return to try other items on the menu.

One of the best places to eat in Helena. Great food. Love the cob salad and halibut sandwich. The fries are great! Excellent wine list and exceptional service and atmosphere.

Went here for dinner and while they were setting up our table (we had 7 folks) we talked with the bartender and he was awesome. He took the time to explain all the local brews and even poured us a taster of each one. I settled on the Harvest Moon Beltian White, which the bartender said was like Blue Moon, but better. I have to agree with him. Then while ordering food the waitress suggested the Humble Beef Ribs (~$30) and it was a great choice as well. I was contemplating a burger or the prime rib sandwich. Maybe next time. The beef ribs were falling off the bone, tender, and came with a nice teriyaki-like side sauce.

Second time here... Great both times! Definitely a place to go for dinner. Hearty portions and excellent food in a great venue. Come a bit early and enjoy the bar.

Great local place to eat...nice ambience and history. They have a nice bar area, but we ate in the dining room which was also comfortable. Not a fancy place, but nice. Neither of our GPS units were able to accurately locate this establishment. The "street" that it's located on is closed to auto traffic and has been turned into a dining/shopping area. You have to park on the back side of the buildings which is the upper level, then walk down a couple of flights of outdoor stairs to get to the restaurant. The metal stairs were very slick with snow falling. If you're not familiar with the area, as we weren't, you might want to call and get directions. Service was good. They have a wide selection of Montana-brewed beers. I had the Pig's A$$ Porter which, fortunately, tasted nothing like it's namesake. I started out with a cup of the curried beef soup which was outstanding. Very nice flavor and absolutely loaded with beef. Very hearty. The mushroom peppercorn filet was very tasty. A nice cut of meat and cooked to a perfect medium rare, as ordered. The mashed potatoes were fine, but nothing to write home about. My colleague had the "16" ounce prime rib which was actually much larger than 16 ounce. It was thick cut and looked great. He said it tasted as good as it looked. We walked out with a bill right at $80 with one beer each, and including tip. There are some less expensive items on the menu too. All in all a great place to visit when in town.

Came in for the Prime Rib, and am so very glad that I did. I will be dreaming of this Prime Rib for some time to come. It was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. For $27, it was 16-oz served with soup or salad and a side. I picked the mashed potatoes which were pretty damned good as well. I had a couple local beers with my meal, and all told they practically needed to wheel me out I was so full. The Windbag isn't much to look at on the inside, but the staff was friendly and the Prime Rib was amazing, so I have no complaints. It was also located on a very charming little walkway that helped me appreciate Helena's charm just a little bit more.

I just enjoyed the last lunch I'll ever have at Big Dorothy's. Terrible service. We were there for an hour and 20 minutes and only ordered salads to eat. We were lucky we didn't have anywhere we needed to be. A guy at a table next to us actually left he was so frustrated with waiting for his food. The food really was good but not good enough to go back. We waited almost 15 minutes before we even had waters and menus and after we got out meals our server never came back to ask us how we were doing. After he brought us the bill (which was wrong) we had to track down someone to take our cards. Too bad that the food was good because the service was bad enough I won't be back. The staff we did find to help us was nice enough to comp our meals, though. Not the place to go for your lunch hour if you need to be back to work on time.

Went to windbag and had their famous prime rib sandwich which was a giant piece of prime rib on a bun. It was very difficult to eat because the rib was too big for the bun and difficult to bite through. The bottom bun was very soggy because of the meat when it came out, I couldn't even pick it up so I just took of the bottom bun. The fries were very thick and not crispy.

The comfortable dark-wood interior and stories of its former life as a bordello were enough to make me relax and expect a decent lunch with friends. Its central location made it a perfect spot to meet up with locals after we'd taken a tourist swing through the city. The food is way better than it needs to be. My Cobb salad was packed with lean crumbled bacon, cheese, and chicken. The other salads and sandwiches around the table were first-rate, too. Windbag is low-key, not fancy (there are plastic squeeze bottles for condiments), but up-scale comfortable. A nice spot for relaxing and chatting about the history we'd just seen.

Seated immediately on a Thursday night. Had a salad with the house dressing. When it arrived I balked. I thought to myself when the salad showed up "What are these seeds doing on my salad. What is this some sort of heath food place". My first bite changed my mind completely. The house dressing was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the house dressing and salad. I ordered a steam with vegetables and it was great. This place has a lot of history to it being a brothel up to 1976. Had that old time saloon feel to it.

Food's decent, but not spectacular given the prices. Every time I came here during college, I would order off the appetizer menu because that would easily run $10-$12 and would have enough food to fill you up. Some of the dinner entrees will run you $30(ish), which given the surroundings and the fact that it's Helena, that's a little steep. This ran true when I stopped by a few weeks ago during my visit to Helena. I ordered off the appetizer menu and the food was exactly as I remember it (decent, not bad but not awesome). The Windbag is best enjoyed if you appreciate its ambiance and history (legend has it that it was at one time a brothel) as well as the selection on tap. For example, the Pig's Ass Porter (from a brewery in Belt, MT) is a common staple here and I can't recall having it anywhere else. They also feature other MT brews like Moose Drool from the Big Sky Brewing company in Missoula, MT. There are some other more common selections as well (my mom had Blue Moon...a PITCHER of it, yeah that's my mom), and the selection is not astoundingly big, but you can generally find one or two beers here that you won't find anywhere else. You can opt to sit in the dining room or the "bar" room, which tends to be a little more rowdy. Most of the time I've ended up in the bar room, which features bar stool seating as well as some tables strewn here and there. There's not really a big difference between the two except in the dining room you won't find any TV's with the game on. All in all, this place is fine but I was never that impressed with it when I went to school here and it was just like I remember it when I went back a few weeks ago.

Took out-of-town guest and seven others for a birthday dinner for my nine-year-old granddaughter. Everyone loved the food and the service was great. The batter-fried mushrooms and vegetables are excellent. The waitress even brought a huge slice of mudpie with a candle at the end of the meal. It was enough for everyone to have some!

Food was just average. I have eaten here before - about 4 years ago on a business trip so i decided to return. Wasn't special. Not sure i would go back. Waitress was rude and couldn't hear anything we said. Kept asking us to repeat it or didn't understand the questions i was asking her.
(3)Joseph R.
I've eaten here for lunch and dinner. The food is great, and the service is quick and friendly. For lunch I've eaten the burgers, they are prepared nicely and not served on a bun off a truck... They are a home style burger all the way. At dinner I've eaten their steaks. Never disappointing and always cooked as ordered. Despite the bar and restaurant being very busy when I was there our server was quick to take our order, our drinks were delivered quickly and correctly, and dinner was served promptly. I like going here and will bring friends when they visit town.

I went here with a friend, both of us moved to Helena about 7 months ago from different big cities. We have both struggled to find decent food in Helena and after several friends recommended it we gave Windbag a try. We both got burgers, which are all in the $11-12 range. Their dinner entrees are all $20-30. The side salad that came with my friends meal looked really fancy and delicious and she enjoyed it. The potato bacon soup I got as my side wasn't so great, it tasted grainy and there was a wad of cheese bigger than 2 tablespoons in the middle of it. Both of us felt our burgers were just ok, and we both felt the buns were way too greasy. We both like the burgers at the Brewhouse way more. On the plus, they do have a great wine and beer selection and I ordered the cheapest red at $6/glass and it turned out to be great. Overall just ok food and kind of expensive, but good service and a nice atmosphere. I probably would only go back for a glass of wine at the bar.

Great location. Average service. Gimmicky in some respects because of the history of the building. Way over priced for the food quality. Everything I have eaten there is too salty. Portion size is good. For the prices they need a chef not a cook
(2)Scott H.
The staff are nice, but the food is pretty bleh. This is not to say it's bad, but the $26.95 seafood medley had three shrimp (which were good--but it's hard not to do shrimp well) and several scrawny (bay) scallops that were fishy and not at all sweet. We also got the ahi tuna sandwich, cooked rare. They should have gone with a thinner piece of high quality tuna, but instead it was thick and flavorless. The salad was good, and the mashed potatoes were fine, but on the whole the meal is just not worth what it costs.
(2)Molly C.
A fun place to visit if you aren't from here. A lot of great stories and history in this building (it was formerly a bordello) and on the walking mall. I recommend the black and bleu steak, or any of the burgers. They do have a good selection of local beers and the wine list is constantly changing.
(3)Adam O.
Friendly cozy kind of place. I had the filet mignon which was good. Not overly cheap at 29 bucks but it did include a salad. I would give the steak a 7 out of 10. I would imagine they have a strong regulars base which is a testement to the friendly staff.
(4)Taylor K.
This place is pretty frequently a go-to spot if I am in the mood to go out. It is a fun atmosphere (building used to be a brothel), and there are choices for all price points. I usually get the Cajun Chicken Salad, which is huge and really good. I recently ventured onto the more expensive side of the menu and ordered the filet...it was worth every penny. Great piece of steak! They also have a full bar and pretty good beer selection.

4.5 stars. When you hear that you're being taken to "The Windbag" for dinner, what's the first thing that pops in your head? Is it nice steak house setting in a beautifully restored saloon? No? It wasn't my vision either, but I was so pleasantly surprised! On my first visit, Mr. Hottie, Erin and I were seated almost immediately. I was so hungry that I wanted to order everything on the menu, but settled for a steak, garlic and pesto mashed potatoes and a nice glass of Klinker Brick. The food was....BEAUTIFUL and delicious! My steak was perfectly prepared and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes were FAB and tasty! I swooned at every bite! I can say that I didn't care for the steamed veggies that came along with the dish. They were tasteless, drying out and almost an after thought, thus the half star deduction. I had the opportunity to visit the Windbag again and was again impressed. I had the short rib meal which was one of the most amazing dishes that I have had in a long time! Yep, I said it! The short rib is cut in a special way by a local butcher. So it's not a big fatty roll of short rib, I can't really describe it accurately but just think of traditional ribs connected to each other, but it's short ribs. Anyway, they come with a wonderful honey dipping glaze that was a great addition to the dish. Just think moist, tender, non-fatty short rib, with a nice honey glaze....heaven. Again the dish came with steamed veggies that were just not good at all. I say take it off the menu if the veggies aren't going to be moist and fresh. It made me confirm the half star deduction. I adore Windbag. The main dishes are fantastic and well made. The service is great and the wine and beer list is large and diverse! If you're looking for a great meal, the Windbag is not full of hot air!

The best part about the Windbag is that with regular frequency a bunch of amateur musicians get together and have an Irish music session. It is one of the very best things to be around for. There is singing, there are jams on old tunes, there are instruments you've never seen before. As to the restaurant, it's a nice big place with a homey feel and good food. But seriously, find out when the session is going to be and eat there then.
(4)Jillian R.
Beautiful building, great food. It's located in a former brothel! Their steak is delicious, and I have never had better mashed potatoes. Servers were attentive and friendly. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny. I highly recommend it!
(5)Jenn L.
One of the best steaks I've ever had was at Windbags. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and extensive wine/beer list. Make sure you get there early because this place gets packed! You have to check this place out if you're in Helena -- a true historical gem.
(5)Heidi B.
Can't go wrong with the fried mushrooms! YUMMY!
(4)Matt M.
Food is good, location is good, but dining room doesnt leave much to the imagination. Probably why they leave the lights pretty low.
(3)Mark H.
I don't think you can go wrong by ordering the prime rib sandwich at the Windbag. That's provided you like great roast beef of course. You get a generous portion of prime rib on a baguette along with a side dish for a very reasonable price. I am very impressed with the staff and service. I have never made reservations over many visits and I have always been seated promptly no matter the size of party.
(4)Jason S.
I probably would have went with a 2 if our waitress wasn't so perky and fast. She really did a bang up job. I had the mushroom burger and fries which both were nothing to write home about. Average. My dad tried out their special which was a quiche, again, nothing to write home about. He also had their soup de jour, same response. mediocre pricing, mediocre food, great service. there looked to be some other intriguing spots in the area to try out that I wish I would have done instead of hitting up this joint.
(3)Rainey S.
With all of the burgers and other food in California, sometimes I still get a craving for a Windbag burger that won't quit. I highly recommend the teriyaki burger with fries and an icy cold Dr Pepper...not sure why the Dr Pepper, but it just makes it all taste great. Afterwards, take a walk up Last Chance Gulch...stop to visit the Bullwhacker statue and just enjoy the uniqueness of downtown Helena.
(5)Jae L.
a famous brothel from back in the day...Its converted now to a bar/restaurant....I could insert a story here about the time I was in a brothel...but I wont..:) Tried the blackend cajun sirloin steak and scallops drowning in butter...paired with the local IPA...great meal...
(4)Brad R.
Really, it's a four and a half, but I can't select that. The burgers are excellent, the fries are top notch, the beer selection is excellent, and the wit staff is great. Since I am in a rut and typically order the burger with a huge slab of green chile on it, I can't really comment about the rest of the menu. That's why I dinged them a half point. This is my burger of choice in Helena. A few years back, I had a beer there with the governor and one of our senators. It's just that kind of place.
(5)Mary M.
Go here - best filet around! Mouthwatering and delicious! YUMMMM! Wish you could have tasted it - so great and perfectly cooked. Casual atmosphere - very accomodating to large or small parties. Great microbrews and wines - delicious huge deserts - split them because they are too big. Service is great - friendly kind, informative wait staff. I don't think you'll ever have a bad meal here and I come every time I am in town. Really good, and right on the Gulch. Easy walking distance to hotels on the Gulch and if you need to drive there is parking behind the building. Yummy food - good time - Come to the Windbag!
(4)Mo S.
Once you get over the name of the place, you'll discover that the food here is exceptional. I'm always ordering the Buffalo Chicken Salad (I think that's the name, or something close to that).....and have also tried their steaks, burgers, other salads, chicken and fish entrees. Every time, the food is amazingly delicious and fresh. I think this is my number one place in Helena. The service is casual and the atmosphere is kind of what you make it...but I love that it still has that historic Helena feel to it. It's spacious and usually the wait, if any, isn't too long. The food is usually really quick to arrive so that balances out any time you have to wait. Oh, and the mashed potatoes are so good, I wish I was a mashed potato.
(5)Armando O.
Had a burger there twice...not bad! Atmosphere is dark however its a great place for a beer and friends after work!
(3)Scott M.
Ahi Tuna sandwich. Remember, Ahi Tuna sandwich. Tuna steak grilled to order (although the thin ones tend to get a bit overcooked at times) with a great sauce. The fries are to die for, so leave your diet at the door.
(4)Norman H.
Great food but it seemed to be closed a lot... like Saturdays and Sundays. Call first...
(4)Mike S.
After reading the reviews we thought to give this place a try. One thing I can say is don't believe the hype. Since our toddler is a handful we usually get our orders to go and after this experience from now on we will always check our orders before leaving. When we finally opened our "to go" boxes, memories of an old commercial with a little old lady exclaiming "Where's the beef!" flashed before us. No joke this teriyaki burger that was spoken so highly about was just barely okay. I rarely use vulgarity, but at this moment it was easy to muster "You've gotta be F- ing kidding me!" No joke! If the burger wasn't just half the size of the actual bun, I might have given them one more star. Let's be honest that place sucks. The $10.50 "Where's the beef" burger can't hold a candle to any burger you might eat at Red Robin, let alone any fast food restaurant. Either we went on an off night or those other reviews were F-ing cruel.
