Hommade for real! Everything was delicious, taste and whit a real homemade taste, the place an the people are very nice, service really fast and the prices were more than good. Stop if you want to have good food

Found this place by searching yelp and reading the reviews. The first time here I had the Huckleberry stuffed French Toast and it was amazing. The coffee is very good, I'm not one that likes strong coffee and this was just right. Very clean and I thought it was reasonable for the quality of food they served. I have stopped here 3 other times to eat breakfast in the past 2 months so they have won me.
(5)John-Paul L.
I love diner food and when it is on the menu, I always get corned beef. Steve's corned beef is home made and is the best I have ever eaten. hands down. Everything we had there was amazing and we will be sure to eat there next time we are in Montana.
(5)Jon Benson S.
Had a chicken sandwich with fries. 100% microwaved. No grilled at all. Lousy fries. Terrible coffee. All for 13 $. Bad joke. I was sick to my stomach 3 hours later. THis place doesnt know real food. And asking someone from Helena to understand what that is ..a waste of time.
(1)Marilu H.
Steve's is the best. They always give you a lot of food and it is good food. My daughter likes the steak and eggs and the steak is always large, at least 12 ounces. I like the bacon and eggs or the bacon cheese burger. Really good food and great service.
(5)S L.
We had a really nice breakfast. The huckleberry pancakes were awesome. The coffee was pretty good. The corn beef hash was nice especially because it is homemade. The hashbrowns were good too. The portions were huge. The oatmeal was great too A little on the pricey side though is my only complaint.
(3)MoRaya M.
Great breakfast spot! Homemade chicken sausage sold by the pound to go. We were surprised to get a magic show from our waiter. Fair pricing for Traditional American style food.
(3)Al M.
Thee best breakfast & lunch in Helena... Period.
(5)Bryan N.
I got the pulled pork sandwich, the pork was hard and chunky and tasted a little "off." Asked for crispy fries but they weren't, in fact some were like raw potato. My wife ordered a vegetarian omelet. The egg was good and had nice supply of veggies with a somewhat unripe avocado. The side of pancake was ok, fluffy with a taste of vanilla but not as good as my home cooked just add water ones. Staff very friendly. I'd give it another try.
(3)Gagaku H.
The only place we go for breakfast anymore, the menu is amazing and to hy here's always great specials on the board, plus Steve himself is to uh ere a lot and he's just awesome!
(5)Mark H.
Do you like generous portions and great comfort food, especially for breakfast? If so, Steve's is the place to go in Helena.
(4)George A.
Why I love Yelp. Needed a good place to eat while traveling through the area. This place had great reviews which proved to be true. Great food and service. And the coffee was surprisingly good for a Diner.
(5)Vince L.
Though it took a bit to get a seat it was worth the wait. The most difficult part of eating here was finding parking and finding a place to stand while waiting. The place was packed and it seemed to be a lot of local regulars. The waiter came over quickly with water and menus. We asked for a few moments and away he went. The place was hoping both customers and staff. Tables did not stay dirty for long once someone left - they cleaned and seated the next folks as soon as possible. When the waiter came back we gave him our order. The food came out quickly and we soon realized that the portions were larger than we were hungry! The food was good, we all sampled each others orders. if you go and are not really hungry split something or plan to take left overs. Since we were on the road we had to leave it.
(4)Lisa S.
We were driving through Helena on our way to Glacier National Park. This place was packed, which is always a good sign. We had the shrimp, avacado, Monterey Jack and cream cheese omelet. The shrimp could have been a lot larger, but it was tasty and the portion was generous. Service was quick and efficient. I would recommend this place.
(4)Brian R.
Stay with the breakfast menu it's always great. The two times I've done lunch the sandwich has been unimpressive. Both times the bun was so soggy you had to eat with a fork.
(4)Erin H.
That was amazing! This place has small town charm. It is very clean, even the bathrooms. The waitress was very quick and helpful even with a full house. I had the corn beef hash and it was yummy! Shredded corn beef not the canned kind. Pancakes were great as well. Next time I'm trying the stuffed huckleberry French toast.
(5)Alejandro V.
Great food lack of common sense. It is 1:40 and the restaurant is full but at least two staff members decided to start vacuuming the restaurant. Seriously? The sound is horrible people. Vacuum wage you are done not when your clients are eating or talking.
(2)Destiny K.
Great service! Big portions. Breakfast menu was excellent. Pancakes are thick and soft, eggs cooked to order, tons of hashbrowns, lots of condiment ootions. Great price. Friendly staff. We will be back!
(5)Robin L.
I won't go anywhere else for breakfast. Gluten free pancakes are as good as it gets!
(5)Leland S.
Good quick breakfast. I had the Taco (meat) burrito breakfast. It was on my table in about 7 minutes. It was very good but the avocado was not very ripe. They seem to have a great a varied menu and I will return to explore it a bit more and give an update. Made it back for a second time and raised it to 5 stars. I had the corned beef and hash with 2 eggs and the huckleberry stuffed French toast. WOW! both were awesome. Great service and friendly face. Will be back!!!
(5)Christian H.
Have been here a few times while visiting friends in town. The food is great and the staff are super friendly. It's a very cozy place to go on a weekend day :)
(4)Kansas T.
I've been here a couple times on my travels back and forth across the state. The service is fantastic, with everyone wanting to make sure you are having a good experience. When I mentioned I was from out of town and looking for a shop, the waitress gave me detailed directions to a couple different options. Oh wait. I was here for food. The FOOD is great. I liked the Italian homemade sausage better than the chicken/apple. Both quality but the Italian definitely had more flavor. Portions were generous and the bill is reasonable. will be coming back!
(4)Bob F.
Very nice comfortable atmosphere. Clean with excellent service and attention. There special was excellent and prices reasonable.
(5)Toni P.
Visiting from Arizona.. Always make my way to Steve's Cafe ! They serve breakfast all day! And, also their patty melt is amazing! I could eat here everyday.
(5)Megan V.
Always a good choice when in Helena. Good food, large portions and a good variety on the menu. If they are busy, you need to have your whole party there to be seated so be prepared for that. I had the pulled pork today - very tasty! Would surely order again. They also have good breakfast. And, very friendly staff.
(4)Kim S.
Turns out there's at least 2 locations in town, close to each other. Don't know if it makes a difference in service and experience. We had a mixed review. Portion sizes are HUGE! Wait staff is friendly and welcoming. It's strangely busy for breakfast at 10am on a weekday, but they got it in quick and delivered food quickly. I guess the kitchen staff was overwhelmed from the crowd. Even though we always ask for well done hash browns and we got very under done hash browns. Out waitress took them back to have them redone and the kitchen staff said they were too busy :/! Seriously?!? They must have a breakfast rush every day! I wish she would have offered me some toast! I need something crunchy with my eggs! Bacon was great (looked great, I don't actually eat it!). And the pancakes were pretty delish. If I'm ever back in Helena, I might try Steve's again. Might not.
(3)Matthew F.
Ate here twice so far. Really good food for the money, average 8-12 dollar lunch or breakfast. Had the courage fried steak, Amazing! Ps. If you get the hash Browns it's like the grated 2 whole potatoes just for you. The Rubens is quite amazing too! WILL BE BACK!
(5)Mei B.
They have a separate grill for gluten free! The gf corned beef was awesome, I had the pumpkin pancake special and it was really tasty. The servers have a lot of personality and I thought ours was awesome. We will come back again!
(5)Allysa G.
Delicious food! Home made taste and look. My husband and I will come here again if we ever pass through town again.
(4)Justin M.
Best breakfast I have had in awhile. Family of five with different menu items and ALL of it was wonderful! We are visiting from Columbia Falls for a couple days and the people there were nice and gave us lots of neat recommendations for places to go see. We will eat breakfast there tomorrow too. The Huckleberry pancakes are the absolute best!
(5)Stephanie E.
Love Steve's! Only thing not to love is that everyone else in Helena loves it too so it can get crowded! Corned beef hash is the best!
(5)Beth H.
I came here on a Monday afternoon before visiting the State Capitol. My boyfriend ordered a two egg breakfast while I ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon. The biscuits and gravy were delicious!! the bacon was crispy and tasty as well. I wasn't blown away by the eggs or hash browns, but neither hold much inherit appeal in the first place, so it wasn't like they did anything wrong. I would definitely come back here.
(4)Mina Z.
Steve's has the best breakfast I have ever found in Helena. The wait staff are really friendly and helpful. I try to eat here every time I pass through. This morning I had the eggs Benedict with artichoke hearts and spinach, delicious though too much food. The portions are huge, too much for me but great for my husband. Fresh as well.
(4)Joan M.
The Asian Burger Special was OUTSTANDING! Can't go wrong with any of the Specials that The Steve's offer!
(5)A W.
Always amazing food. Big portions and unique food choices. Always try to make it there when I am home!
(5)Bradley N.
One of the coolest things about Helena's beloved breakfast spot, Steve's Cafe, is that it is definitely not a greasy spoon, been-here-since-FDR-was-in-the-White-House sort of place. It's fairly new, having opened in 2009, but it's definitely a classic. Stuffed huckleberry and ricotta French Toast, huckleberry pancakes (anything with huckleberries, really), big omelets, and house-made sausages are standard fare, but what I really like is that they have an excellent oatmeal option: an organic, steel-cut variety with apple cider reduction, golden raisin and fresh apple compote, milk, and brown sugar. That, and a few cups of black coffee, will get your day started - if your day includes hiking in the rugged Gates of the Mountains wilderness (no boat trips, please - just dry feet), which is about the best Saturday morning/afternoon/evening activity you could possibly imagine. Sunrise breakfast at Steve's, followed by a backpacker's lunch atop the Mann Gulch ridgeline, and an early evening dinner of burgers, Lewis & Clark beer, and Maker's Mark bourbon at the York Bar: the perfect recipe for a perfect outdoor day, Helena, MT style. (OK, you can just have breakfast here and then cruise Last Chance Gulch, but it's nice to know that the other option exists, too). Cafe Special Oats and copious cups of black coffee: rocket fuel for the the hungry and restless soul. But the stuffed French Toast didn't look too shabby, either.
(4)Karla H.
I've never had a bad meal here! Just be prepared to wait and make sure your entire party is present. They won't seat you until your whole party is there on busy days (like Sunday morning brunch!).
(5)Jeff D.
This place was a delicious stop along our 10 state tour. Highly recommend one of the desserts that are made from scratch.
(5)Corey R.
Super awesome atmosphere! Staff fast and friendly! Great menu and prices. Definitely recommend Steve's.
(5)Mitch N.
For anyone that likes Corned Beef, I think this is the best in all of Montana! So good I ate breakfast there on two consecutive days. Heck it could beat even more cities and states for that matter, it's that good. Of course I had some fresh fruit and some pancakes, both whatever. The star of the show though... Oh so good home made corned beef. Service was stellar and coffee kept hot and filled.
(5)Jake S.
Mexican chipolte sausage was super tasty. If you like a little kick with you breakfast, this is for you.
(5)Jeff M.
Outstanding food from the first time we went there. My 6 year old son demands we go at least once a week. Enormous portions, good prices for the size of the meal and a great example of local cooking.
(5)Kari W.
My Husband and I went in just after 9am on Saturday morning and got seated right away. We got one of specials- biscuit and gravy stack and the country fried steak. The biscuit stack was more of a side dish. My plate was hash browns with a side of one biscuit with a sausage patty inside with gravy on top, it was delicious however. Asked for over medium eggs that came out over easy. Husband's eggs were the same. Very happy with country fried steak, gravy, pancakes and coffee as well as the service. Will return and avoid the eggs next time.
(4)Chris A.
Food is good, Services is good and fast for a packed house. Chicken fried steak tender and good. The waitress has a great smile :) . OK so now the room for improvement. The eggs were soaked in oil and not cooked, the oil belongs in an engine not on my plate. OK so what is with frozen prepackaged hash browns are you too damn lazy to cut a real potato mix in a few onions and red bell peppers and cook it they're called home fries try em they're good, if I need to pay $1 more for real potatoes that's fine just dump the frozen crap. But this is still the best breakfast in town just get the oil off the plate please.
(3)Patrick J.
Ate at Steve's with friends from Oregon and elsewhere this past week. I was in town for the dog show and ate there all days we were in town. It was fabulous food. I'd sure like to see them bring one of these to Billings, we don't have a breakfast place that even closely compares to this. It is outstanding!!
(5)T T.
Busy restaurants are always a good sign when you walk in. This place is a clear favorite among locals that live in Helena. Very clean and well kept. The food was quite good. They mostly have breakfast items but we opted for lunch sandwiches. All of them were done well. Waiter was very attentive. Sandwiches were pretty good. Although we didn't get sodas or sweet tea, beware since the menu states only ONE refill. Could be an issue for some that are used to drinking lots more.
(4)First Impressions S.
love there french toast...
(4)Todd S.
Always great food. I had a short stack homemade sausage and a couple eggs this morning that were out of this world.
(5)Eileen R.
We visit Helena about 3 times every year, and Steve's is one of the "must do" places each time. Never a bad meal, always great service. I wish I could package this up and take it home with me. It's everything you want a good cafe to be.
(5)Amber A.
We are lucky to be introduced to Steve's being from Portland, our friend's knew right where to take us. The restaurant was very clean and didn't have the dingy "breakfast joint" theme I expected. I ate the Huckleberry Stuffed French Toast and sausage. The French toast was delicious, but sweet as expected and the sausage some of the best I have ever had, even coming from a "foody" town. My husband had steak and eggs, which he says were very good, the only reason we didn't clean our plates was because it was a lot of food!! The coffee was good (and much needed after five days worth of partying and traveling the great State of Montana), and they came to fill me up on the regular. The service was good, pretty pleasant, got our food in a reasonable time. Overall, a very good experience. Trying to figure out how to get back tomorrow before we leave town, I want to try the Rueben!
(4)John K.
The food was good. The issue I had was the kitchen staff eating and drinking while prepping food and not much in the way of hand washing going on. We were seated with an open view of the kitchen. Service was good and I like they are local.
(3)Mare V.
Great place for breakfast. Just off interstate and bright airy cafe. Plenty of choices. What I like best is they don't just assume everyone wants hashbrowns and toast as a side. You get two sides, which include tomato slices, fruit cup or pancakes, besides the regular choices. Friendly waitress and quick service and great food.
(5)Christopher E.
Great service. Place was busy and packed but we were seated quickly. Food was amazing. Worth the hour drive from great falls. We will be back again and again.
(5)DoubleN N.
Best breakfast in Helena... they have a stuffed french toast special almost every day. The home made corned beef hash is just like Grandma used to make. Service is fast and good.
(5)Donna D.
Great service!~ delicious food!~
(5)Alana M.
I have been here dozens of times and every time I have had friendly service and great food. I feel bad for the people that have had bad experiences here because in my experience that is just not typical. Be prepared to wait for a table if you come before noon on Saturday or Sunday. Also if they are busy they will not seat incomplete groups. Beware pancakes are huge as well as sausage links and patty (but they are all quite delicious.) I've only ever had breakfast here, but who needs anything else?
(5)Paul W.
I think this is the best breakfast place in town. With most meals you get two sides to choose from. I got hashbrowns and pancakes. It is more food then I ever could think about finishing. I ordered the Mexican sausage. It is the perfect amount of spicy. For less then $10, I feel like I got two meals.
(5)Stef F.
Voted best breakfast place in Helena. The food is awesome!! My husband and I always get the chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns, and pancakes. So good! I have also tried the stuffed French toast and the huckleberry lemonade, both very good! I would suggest that everyone try Steve's while they are in town. We always bring our out of friends there!
(5)Gabe I.
Breakfast here never disappoints at Steve's! Real home cookin'
(5)Joseph R.
Sunday mornings are always busy due to the church crowd and people enjoying their days off. We had to wait for a table, but expected that, and the hostess was very good at letting us know about how long the wait would be and to accomodate us. Once we were seated, you could see the wait staff was busy, but we were given prompt attention, and we had our coffee and juice very quickly. When we ordered, my breakfast companion had a lot of questions about ingredients, etc., and the server answered them knowledgably. She was extremely helpful. I had the Huckleberry stuffed French Toast, and my friend ordered an omelette. We were both totally satisfied with the excellent food and excellent service. Definately will go back....often.
(5)Sarah S.
For a place that advertises for their Gluten-Free pancakes, they weren't very good. I was extremely disappointed when I tried them. Of course, this isn't their speciality, and I definitely understand that they're just trying to give good options for their customers. Their home-made sausage, though, was absolutely incredible. The waitress was friendly, and definitely accommodating. But, all in all, I don't think I'll be returning.
(2)Stephanie K.
What can you say, stuffed french toast specials, to die for, I have had cherry almond, just right, not too sweet or cloying, great, fast, friendly service, and bottomless coffee. Can't go wrong here. The omelettes are huge. The hashbrowns, could be better.
(5)Emma R.
I'm always on the lookout for great gluten free places to eat, & Steve's cafe is definitely one!! We were visiting Helena & found this breakfast gem. They have a great gluten free menu, including GF huckleberry pancakes that are extraordinary!!! After 11 years of being GF, I can't remember any other restaurant that's served GF pancakes (& if I've had any, they definitely weren't this great-wow!!) Wish we lived closer!!!
(5)Mike A.
The food is certainly ok but the service is horrible, with several servers with attitudes. Twice my food has been served cold and try to get your drinks served with the meal. Don't bother complaining: I was told at checkout that it was MY problem for not telling my server the food was cold (the one with the attitude). That's not the point. Better if they would have just said thank you for bringing this to our attention. We'll try to fix that going forward. My third, and last, experience was just as bad. Steve, you really need to train your staff.
(2)John D.
Everyone raves about Steve's. I'm nonplussed. They are quite proud of their homemade sausages, but really shouldn't be. When you go to cut them, the skin tears and the link turns into a scramble. The flavor is ok, not great. They undercook eggs and hash browns. Another example of a medium fish looking big in this small pond. Twelve bucks with coffee. Before tip. Sort of a joke.
(2)Jessica L.
I read the other reviews before deciding to go here for breakfast while visiting Helena. The corn beef hash doesn't disappoint! It was so delicious. The service was quick and efficient. It's a great little breakfast spot.
(5)AJ M.
Crowded and for good reason! The breakfast was delicious and the coffee kept flowing :) Nice staff.
(4)Linda R.
I have eaten at Steve's 4 or 5 times, and the problem is the inconsistancy. I have gone in there and had good service and good food, and other times it has been awful. I was in with some family members on July 9th, and had a grilled cheese sandwich which ranked at the worst sandwich I have ever eaten. It was dry, with a tiny slab of butter used to grease the middle of the bread, the rest of the white bread was dry (I did not get a choice of using any other kind of bread) inside was ONE slice of a processed cheese, that was tasteless. The french fries were mediocre and cold. The service wasn't any better. They were not very busy since it was a Monday, but it took 15 minutes before anyone to take our order, or bring us any coffee. The waitress never asked how our food was, and didn't seem to even notice my plate was still fairly full when she took it away. I will not be visiting Steve's anytime soon.
(2)Kellicious B.
Great food. Always friendly. Definitely worth stopping for.
(5)Nicole B.
Good (if not spectacular) food, quick/friendly service (we've never once had bad or rude service in at least ten times we've eaten) and they make a lot of the "hard stuff" (like sausage) on site. Breakfast is great, but I've never ordered lunch. Very good, crispy hash browns, which are a staple of my husband's breakfast habits.
(4)Griz Girl R.
Steve's has it all: prompt, friendly service and excellent service. Their omelets are fabulous!
(5)Dottsy Z.
I visited Steve's Cafe with Mr. Hottie and the Lovely Erin on a beautiful Helena, MT morning. I was pouting a bit because I wasn't my usual diva-goddess self and didn't have time to get all dolled up for breakfast. Well we walked in to a quaint cafe and were immediatley greeted. There were two other gentlemen waiting ahead of us. One of them commented to me that it was busy today and then he turned, looked at me and said "Wow, you look pretty!" *DING* Who wants french toast?!?! I was immediatley excited for breakfast! We were seated in a booth and were waited on by a friendly waitress. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, hashbrowns, a biscuit with gravy and 1 piece of french toast. Everything was A-OK! The only complaint I had was that the biscuit wasn't open. It was just a biscuit with gravy on top. I like my biscuit open so the gravy goodness can soak the soft insides! MMmm. Everything else was solid! The cafe did not slow down at all. It had patrons coming in and out during our whole visit. I read their lunch special and it sounded delicious! Steve's Cafe is a solid choice for a non-chain breakfast! The menu is simple and the meals are good! I hope to visit Steve's for lunch to try their comfort food offerings sometime!
(3)Rick J.
I read the reviews of this place before eating at Steve's so I would say I was pretty underwhelmed. The food was good but nothing spectacular... I probably would of given this place another star if the prices were more reasonable for the food. Not super expensive but a little steep for a cafe. I'd be willing to go back though.
(3)Colleen D.
Normally Steves is good. Service is not always great however. This morning went with a group of 7. They would not seat us until all 7 were present. While we were waiting three people came in and were seated without their full party of 6 present and seemed to know person who was seating tables. We left and went to Perkins. It has generally been my experience that steves has a difficult time serving large parties and table servers are crabby when large parties come in.
(2)Mckade E.
Awesome food! Had a full stack of french Toast, two eggs and ham. I ate it all and now feel like I'm going to bust, but it was so good I couldn't stop eating it. Service is always happy and helpful. Price is kind of high looking at the menu but when the food gets to your table you will know why. Serving size is large. Don't come unless you are hungry. Can be hard to get a table on the weekend but it's worth the wait. So to sum it up there is a reason this place has been voted "Best breakfast in helena"
(5)Mark P.
Decent food but highly overrated. Completely devoid of any kind of atmosphere. If you're looking for standard, "greasy spoon"-type breakfasts, there's better options in Helena.
(2)Kiersten O.
Enjoy the hometown feel of the place. When we went for the first time we notice all the walks of life that came in. They were super busy but we still felt the service was good. Some of the food is made in house which I personally love! We bring anyone that comes to visit us here.
(5)Andrew R.
After trying most of the breakfast places in Helena, I deem Steve's to be the best traditional American breakfast here. It was a bit crowded in the foyer on a recent weekend, but we were seated quickly, and once inside, Steve's was open and pleasant. The house-made corned beef hash was excellent, and the eggs perfectly done, but the hashbrowns were a little wan. I'll ask for them extra-well-done next time. We left feeling comfortably full, but not bloated and in need of a nap.
(4)WILLIAM N.
The meal was a lot better than the last time I was here. Food and service were great. I will definitely be going back. Luckily, we went during the late morning and there wasn't any wait.
(4)Kelli S.
Fast service, clean. Changing table in the bathroom. Reasonable prices. I had pulled pork, which was perfect. Also sampled some of my sister's pancakes with huckleberry syrup - amazing!
(5)Homer S.
Terrific, honest, bountiful breakfasts. Steve's does just about everything right, utilizing those seemingly obvious secrets of success that split the winners from the closed-for-business. * Friendly. * Prompt. * Patient. * Attentive. * Grateful. * Clean. * Delicious. * Generous. * Well-lit. * Coffee for hungry folks on the wait list. * Value. * Did I say delicious, bountiful, and friendly? Steve's has it, in spades. Only missed 1 star because our order wasn't perfectly executed from what we requested, which can happen anywhere. Any other day, I'm sure it would be a 5. Next time I'm in Helena, I'll be back in a heartbeat.
(4)Kathryn K.
Admittedly, I've only been to Steve's once, so I can't speak for their consistency. On the other hand, the one time I went was with a largish party for breakfast on a weekday, when one would expect the waitress who served us to not really be expecting to deal with a large group whose members didn't all show up at the same time. She still gave us great service, and was friendly throughout. I had the breakfast burrito with hashbrowns. The burrito was very tasty and I would eat another quite happily, but what really impressed me where the hashbrowns. I always order hashbrowns the first time I go to a new breakfast place, knowing there's about a 90% chance they'll be a sad, soggy, greasy pile of mushy potato, but hoping nonetheless that this time I'll hit that 10% chance of something good. The hashbrowns at Steves are the best I can remember having: enough uncrisped potato in the middle to give them substance and moisture, with a crunchy, texture-perfect top and bottom.
(5)Blake G.
Good food, large portions, good prices Limited seating. - but worth the r.wait.
(4)Don S.
I travel constantly and eat at restaurants a lot. I get tiredm of the same old fare. This has the standards and I'm sure they are great but I had one homemade Chorizo sausage and one huckleberry pancake and eggs. Wunderbar! Large portions, reasonable price, adequate service and findable. I would have ordered the French toast as opposed to the pancake. The pancake was adequate itself, but sublime because of the huckleberries and huckleberry syrup. It was just a vehicle for the syrup and fruit. Don't go here for the ambience, or the service go here for the food. It's killer! A true find!
(5)Sharon P.
Great place for the breakfast and lunch crowd. Friendly staff and great food. Stop into Steve's cafe for a wonderful experience!
(4)Mrs B.
Food was excellent, portions were just the right size. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't find the wait (to be seated or for food to arrive) to be very long at all, even though we went on a busy Saturday late morning. Our server was delightful, and attentive. I had the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and Mr. B had the stuffed french toast with apples. Both were extremely delicious. Mr. B is a hash browns connoisseur, and upon finishing mine, gave two thumbs up.
(5)Phil L.
The food is good, the servings are big and the price is right. What the heck else do you want? Folks who don't like Steve's should stick to IHOP. We have been numerous times and usually with large groups. Everyone always enjoys the food. Ask for the specials, but everything on the menu is special. I love the homemade corn beef hash; the french toast and or pancakes are really good, but they give you too much; you may want to share. The bacon is good and cooked crisp; but, I love their Italian sausage; get it with eggs for breakfast, or with onions and peppers on a sub roll for lunch. I am going to try the meatball sandwich the next time I am there. Not a fancy place and on the weekend you will have to wait a while for breakfast... but,, if you don't want to wait, there are plenty of mediocre places in Helena for breakfast; this is not one of them.

Visited on beautiful Sunday morning and the restaurant was very busy; not surprising given they were recently voted Best Breakfast in Helena. However, if this is the best breakfast, Helena has a lot of room for improvement. We were seated pretty quickly--awesome. Then we were served coffee right away--but the coffee was burnt. Our food came fast and it was fine, except my omelet came with avocado. Avocado that I was so unripe, I could pick up a slice and fold it in half without breaking it and it would snap back into flat position. Obviously not edible. Really glad I didn't pay $2.75 to have avocado ADDED to something as the menu suggests you can do. The rest of my meal was pretty good and so was my husband's. Service: efficient but not very warm or friendly. We got our check soon after we were done eating, which is great because I hate waiting forever at the end of the meal for the bill. We will probably eat here again wit h lower expectations and maybe stick to the more signature menu items, skip the coffee.

I've eaten at Steve's several times now for both breakfast and lunch. They have great french toast, omelets and sausage. The chicken sausage is EXCELLENT. Their burgers and fries are pretty good as well -- simple, but good. I've been pleased every time. If you go for breakfast on the weekend, though, you should be prepared for a crowd and that means waiting for a table.

Steve's gets voted Helena's best breakfast almost every year, so I was expecting a great breakast. I have been there four times now, trying different menu items, and all I can say is "Why?". The food is about average tasting, portions are large though, and service is hit and miss. Like another Yelper, I have had cold breakfast twice. Steve's has a specialty - Huckleberry stuffed french toast, which is pretty decent, but it is pricey and I wasn't too pleased with the "value". There is pretty much always a line on the weekends if you plan on going there.

Steve's really is the best breakfast in Helena. Be prepared to wait 15 minutes on the weekends. I love their Huckleberry Stuffed French Toast (with ricotta, yummy) and Corned Beef and Hash. Coffee is on the table as soon as I have been seated and the waitstaff is very friendly and fast. Traditional breakfast fare with some unique items as well. I always leave feeling full and happy.

Breakfast here is consistent and better than any of the chain food places in the area. I have eaten here 3 times and have always left satisfied and wanting to come back. They do make some of there own breakfast meats(the apple chicken sausage is great), but the food is mainly standard fare breakfast done well.

Not impressed. It's just a regular diner where very few things are actually made to order. Old people love it because you get a huge amount of mediocre food at average prices. I'd rather have good food.
