We live part-time in the Bitterroot Valley. The Filling Station is our first stop heading into town and our last stop heading out. Always a great meal! See you soon!

I dislike writing bad reviews but I also dislike bad service. This place was packed-we tried going to Naps first but you couldn't even get in the door. We had the waiter; he appeared to be the only male working except for the cooks....maybe that explains his service? Anyhow, he sat us down without looking at us and came back twice after that-once to take the order the second to drop off the food. After the food was placed on the table he never looked back-yes, I would have loved an extra napkin, a refill on my beverage, and some dipping sauce for the fries! He was at the table next to us at least three more times than he was at ours. The menu oddly has a lot of Mexican/Spanish options. We were just craving burgers which ended up being nothing special. Next door is their ice cream shop which also looked busy. The decor is busy but it does look how you'd expect.

Decent food. Great atmosphere with a lot of great nick knacks on the wall. Took 3 people to finally bring us any ketchup. Service could have been more attentive.

Love this place!!! They have a wide variety of food, sure to satisfy everyone in the family (including an awesome ice cream bar)! The staff is always very welcoming & friendly. Super clean, very well decorated, & a great great location!!! I am never EVER disappointed weather I dine in or carry out!

We had a wonderful time here. No idea about the rest of the food - we were just here for the ice cream. Milkshakes, to be exact. The ice cream is fantastic and the milkshakes truly done right. Four scoops in the small, eight scoops in the large! Real, old fashioned shakes, not that scary stuff you get at fast food places. I had the Huckleberry - it was amazing. Others in our group raved about the peppermint-chocolate and the vanilla. Great shakes, great service. Get some!

The atmosphere is very unique and fun with lots of old gas station signs and paraphernalia. The food is delicious - great menu with lots of choices - including a good assortment of Mexican fare. The ingredients are all fresh. Plus there is soda fountain area with high quality ice cream for sundaes, shakes and cones. Almost brings you back too the '60s!! Overall service is very attentive and friendly.

Above average salsa. I still cant get over the fact that you have to pay for it, but,.. when in Rome,... The service was excellent, but that doesn't overshadow how expensive food is in restaurants in Montana. $10 for a couple of cheese enchiladas or two fish tacos?? Gimme a break. If you are accustomed to the prices in restaurants here then don't let that sway you from avoiding this place. I've been to a few "Mexican Food" places in my visit here and this place is the 'Best" I've found so far in Montana. This place is about as expensive as that "Tacos del Sol" place down the street, but the portions here are gargantuan, and you will need a to-go box, unless you are some human pig who trough feeds regularly. Coming from San Diego Im not expecting anything here as far as Mex goes, but if you need a fix, I guess this place is the spot. I had the Chile Relleno plate and the relleno was done up fresh, Ive never had it that way and it was really tasty. There is a tremendous amount of eggbatter on these rellenos, so go slow. The verde sauce covering them was bland but I suppose would be tasty to someone who has never had it before. I'd really like to go back and try how their other foods (non "mexican")taste. There is American food and the homemade flavors that shone through in the "mex" I'm sure would make for a tasty dish. I'll edit when I do, because I'd like to go back and try. I think the effort they put into the food deserves more stars, so Im just grading the "mexican" food offered. I want to stress again how great the service was, the decor is great and the portions are H U G E.

Neat retro-style place complete with a full ice-cream bar. It has a unique menu that offers both classicial American sandwitches and burgers, along with a variety of mexican food. Pay attention to when they're open - they have small town hours! The kid-unit had her third burger here in as many days and declared it the best thus far. I found the 409 to be quite tasty (the car guy in me was drawn to the name). All the portions required belt-loosening.

Order New Mexican. They know what they're doing.

Came here for lunch on new year's eve and was surprised by the interior. Looked a lot like a lunch counter where you find locals eating greasy burgers and crisp fries. Interesting that they had a New Mexican side of the menu, though. I got the special burrito (Charlie's burrito?) which was covered in deliciously spicy red sauce. Meat was tender but had little flavor. I wanted them to put the red sauce inside the burrito so it could melt together in gooey-meaty goodness. I didn't care for the beans (they weren't pinto or black) because again, they were cooked well but had little flavor. I ended up putting it together with the rice (which WAS good) and it made both better. I also had the chips and salsa and am definitely a fan of that. The chips are thicker, probably store bought, but that's ok. The salsa has a good garlic kick with just enough spice. Tastes great on the burrito. The other half of the menu has the lunch-counter type foods. A friend in my party got the burger and fries. He said the burger was good, albeit small and the fries were excellent. Very crispy and fresh. Overall service was good. I forgave them for not getting us forks and napkins right away because they only had 2 people serving that day. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick filling meal during the week.

Great little place for an interesting lunch or breakfast, their old time décor is cute and you can really be entertained by it while eating. We had lunch, half a sandwich and can choose from several sides. It was hot and fresh, only complaint is service was a tad slow.

Fun atmosphere lots of knick knacks to look at. This is basically a diner with your average diner food...burgers, fries, sandwiches, and an extensive Mexican menu...weird. Milk shakes were good. I probably would give it 3 stars except we had really bad stomach aches after eating here. We both had deli sandwiches with salads/no fries...If in the area probably wouldn't come back here, would try somewhere different.

Great food. I had their trisalad plate. It was excellent. The decor is fun with all the antique toy trucks. Definitely a place to try again!

Great food, very good service, the atmosphere is great and the variety of dishes is good. The Mexican food is New Mexican cuisine and perfect for your pallet.

My first visit here in Montana! This is the place to eat for burgers, fries, sandwiches, etc. The place is amazing -filled with old gas pump; old ice cream parlor stand at the back. The service was fast and staff are very friendly. All the different sandwiches that we ordered (there were 5 of us) was all delicious.

Best place in Hamilton, hands down. Excellent service, unbelievably good food. Get there early for lunch and check the daily specials. Everything on the menu is outstanding -- high fives to the owner for community service.

Stopped off in the way through town for a delicious lunch. Fun diner atmosphere with a surprising selection of Mexican food. The service was excellent, all the meals were tasty, and it was topped of with a delicious palooki (ice cream on a hot cookie). Will definitely be back.

We only had the waffle cone ice cream but they serve wilcoxins ice cream which is definitely my favorite. The service was great and the atmosphere was really fun.

Food is decent to good. The owner is friendly but not flexible. One bathroom for everyone. No baby changing station or counter in the bathroom.

A mother and son resettling from New Mexico opened this unique café in 2009 and have made it a success. Lunch and dinner are off the same menu and what is special are the Mexican dishes, New Mexico style, heavy with ancho chili flavor and a lot of heat. The décor is like the name and lots of it comes from dad's collection, so you will see a lot of antiques. The menu carries the service station theme via the names given the ample sandwiches and dishes. Their Mexican tacos come to you as little corn tortilla "scoops." The green chili soup is dynamite and will take down sissies very quickly. The cheese enchilada stack is like Mexican lasagna and is one of my favorites. They have two salsas, one mild and tomatoish and the other a flavorful mix of tomato, hot green chilies, garlic and I don't know what else, but I always ask for more than the standard serving. Look for the specials on the entry blackboard. They also bought the ice cream franchise that was part of the old business and a scoop of ice cream can definitely cleanse the spices and burn if you indulged in the wild side of food life. This is a busy place, especially during lunch, so come before noon or wait until after 1pm. Waiting for a table is normal. Mom and her son are busy but love to talk with you, so don't be shy. Their sense of humor comes out even on their shirts, embroidered with any name but their own. And you have to admire them for taking the risk of starting a restaurant in rural Montana and making it successful. Nice people, great café, satisfying food and service.

Had a bacon swiss hamburger (I believe there was a special name for this one the menu which i do not recall) and it was delicious! I also liked the fries. :) Staff was very friendly and the place had a kind of quirky charm. Can't comment on the Mexican food, because I did not try it. (Was there for lunch.)

I'm boycotting this place and I want everyone to know why. She serves Mexican dishes, but if you want a little sour cream, be prepared to be billed an extra .75. There is just something wrong with charging extra for a little sour cream on your enchilada. I should also mention, that if you want chips and salsa before your enchilada, you'll pay extra for that too. I hope she enjoyed my .75 cents, because that is the last she'll get from my family.

I love this place. I love the fries especially because they are always so nice and crispy. I ordered my lunch to go today and it was perfect. The owner is a doll. She always asks about my family and knows how to treat her customers. We do miss AJ though. If you want a great lunch or dinner....stop by this fun place. You won't regret it.

If you somehow find yourself wondering where to grab dinner (or lunch, but mostly dinner because everything here seems to shut down at 5pm) in Hamilton, The Filling Station is a great place to go. They have a diverse menu with salads, sandwiches, burgers, and for some reason, a respectable Mexican menu. Tonight, I had the fish tacos. Grilled fish, some great salsa, and the usual sides. There was also an enchilada style burrito at the table. I really think I would have been happy with a lot of what I saw on the menu. Negra Modelo was on the beer list just as you might expect from any self-respecting place serving Mexican cuisine. Also, we can't forget, service was great!
