Fine set of tacos. Options for tacos and burritos. Intimate dining space with dishes provided (less waste). Appreciated their sensitive to my food allergies.

Taco Del Sol, you disappoint. I thought the new digs would bring a better food joint, but my gosh the breakfast tacos were awful. Seriously, no excuse for those tacos. Yes the ingredients were fresh, but everything else about the taco was bad. The short version is that they didn't have flavor, they are blatantly uninspired, and I felt I'd have to try hard to produce something that bad on my own. I want to say that I used to go about once a month to grab a fish burrito and found it to be worth the dough. Also, I've met the owner and think both her and her staff are great. I want this place to succeed, but if the product doesn't improve, why should it? Really hope to see things change here as I'd love to be a patron...

Everything is just ok. Fills your gullet in a pinch, and the prices are actually reasonable. The new location, however, is a step backwards for t del sol. New order technology has slowed the service WAY down and made everything less personal. Big vacuous room, with. . . Umm. . . Nearly no 'soul', del sol. Come on . . .

Pardon my French... It was F****n Horrible!! Was not close to being busy and the disgusting burrito took almost 15 minutes to make. The customer service is piss poor and to top it off.. When I asked if they had more cilantro/onions for their so called "taco sides" station... They said.. "Sure! Right Away"... 15 minutes later and proceeded to fill it with stinky/wilted/black cilantro and store bought diced onions out of a bag. Never Again...

Very "americanized". Their food is fresh but not really put together well. The Salsa was mostly just tomatoes . The taco Salsa reminded me of the taco bell mild packets. The fish tacos could use some improvement. If you're hungry, go for it but don't expect your standard Mexican food. Gave it a 3 for on-point refried beans, the loungy bar ambiance and cleanliness.

This is a great place, I love the fish tacos, pork tacos, burritos, etc. The first time I ate at TDS was in Missoula and it was outstanding. Every time I travel to Montana I can now get my fix on the east or west side of the state. Of course I love that it is not a national chain, but most importantly the food is fresh and worth a visit and it will be one of your favorites.

Super fresh ingredients, friendly staff, reasonably priced. In and out quick for lunch or hang out in the kiddie corner to play games. Conveniently located right downtown with plenty of street parking. You can't go wrong!

Here's the deal, you don't go to Taco del Sol for the best Mexican food north of the border. It's cheap, it's a good amount of food and it's better than decent. Based on the amount of time it takes for your meal to be made, it would qualify as fast food. But it tastes too good to be thrown into that abhorrent classification. Taco del Sol is very conveniently located just off of Main Street, which is likely why it is frequented at the lunch hour by people who work downtown. Every time I've visited TdS, I've had wonderful experiences with the staff, who are friendly and energetic. Having that genial greeting immediately makes the experience more enjoyable. The "salsa fresca" is the best thing Taco del Sol has. The pico de gallo-like salsa is typically a fresh burst of flavor that immensely improves the quality of the food. I have had less spectacular experiences where the fresca is underwhelmingly fresh. Similarly, the guacamole is almost too subtle of a flavor, though perhaps most people would prefer that the guacamole be less pervading. The restaurant itself is charmingly warm and appropriately sunny. However, the place doesn't have air conditioning, which on hotter days makes it feel like you are eating your taco on the surface of the sol. The background music situation is dire. Over the course of a meal you will hear a loud and unsettling hodgepodge of 90s alternative, tacky reggae, and 70s rock. A more coherent mix would likely benefit the atmosphere, which is confused by the mélange of genres. The primary point is that Taco del Sol is decent. For the price and the amount of food you get, it's quite good. If you walk in with high expectations, you won't enjoy your meal much, but simply remember the fact that you're eating a $5 burrito and you'll appreciate it much more.

Fresh ingredients, great menu, reasonable prices (taco for $3.50!), & great vibe inside made for a perfect lunch. My taco salad started with a crisp tostada shell, shredded lettuce, pinto beans (my choice) and moist shredded pork. Topped with a generous scoop of sour cream, guac, cheese, and my choice of corn salsa (my favorite ingredient). Sometimes I need ranch dressing to sauce up my salad but this salad was perfect and a perfect portion for lunch. My daughter loved her cheese quesadilla and everyone in our party demolished their tacos and burritos. So glad to have stopped here for lunch!

Not bad. Very Americanized tacos, nothing authentic but a yummy bite for a decent price. Outdoor sitting is,nice. Smallish inside. Casual affair maybe for a lunch.

While the food did seem fresh and priced well, I think that this restaurant has a bit of an identity problem. It has a name similar to Taco del Mar which is simply not worth mentioning and it tries to share menu with La Parilla which outclasses the food here. The biggest problem with the food is flavor. I am learning that I should avoid a restaurant that describes itself as Mexican but has nothing but mild salsa.

Taco del Baño... Had the fish tacos and chips & salsa. Barely made it home. Probably won't eat here again.

I really like their food. Pork is great, it's a tremendous value and I had good service on the weekdays. I got the mission supreme burrito and my husband got the taco salad. Both were great!

  • Sabrina J.

Simple taco with a lot of lettuce and tomato ... Not the best or worst that I've had.

    (3)
  • Jan M.

Being a Cali kid and growing up with Mexican food, I have to say that this is the worst taco in America. Period. And if the simplicity of the taco has been destroyed, then don't even venture into the rest of the menu.....I gave it one star because the bathroom was clean.

There are better places in town for this sort of fare. Temperature control is not the greatest. Food seems mediocre after two tries. I guess if you want "mexican" and you are walking the storefronts downtown, this place will suffice. I am personally not a big fan of LaTinga either (seems like a street "dive" to me), but many people reave about it, so you may want to try it instead, if it is open (closed for winter, I think).

  • J H.

Its a quick place to grab a bite to eat. Quality of food, portion and price are all good. The problem with yelp is you have to rate the reviewers. This place isn't the bomb but its definitely not the dud some reviewers think.

Fresh ingredients; happy staff; good vibe. Recommend.

  • Jimmy V.

This place was very popular when it opened, so I went as soon as I could. Lots of food for the dollar but it really wasn't that tasty. The location downtown is good, and there is more seating then La Tinga. It is poised for success; time to improve the food.

  • James M.

Really low quality food. Ingredients look and taste like grocery store quality. Had the chicken tacos and an order of chips/salsa.

  • Brant K.

Having read reviews of this place (the Helena and Missoula locations), I was expecting it to be okay but not great. I was wrong. They pretty much use the lowest quality ingredients possible. The chips and tortillas are like the super cheap ones you buy in 80 lb. bags from costco and they taste like paper. The salsa was awful. My burrito was incredibly soggy. Oh, and the extra dollar to upgrade my burrito yielded a measly tablespoon of guacamole. Don't waste your time or money here. Go to La Tinga or La Parilla.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
