Heard that they just got the sake and beer! I can't wait to go back!

I just moved to Bozeman after living and working in Japan for three years so I was excited to try Seven Sushi for dinner. I went on a Wednesday night and had to wait 15 minutes for a table, so I guess it's still the cool new place to eat. The atmosphere kind of reminded me of urban Japan so that was nice. I always order miso soup when I get sushi and I was very happy with it. I was still traumatized from the miso soup I ate in Wok 'n Roll sushi in Helena a few nights ago, so even though I needed to pay three dollars for this bowl, it was worth it. The gyoza wasn't good in my opinion. Japanese gyoza is not fried and this one was. It kind of reminded me of microwaveable food. I ordered green tea and got a mixture of green tea and something else. I asked the waitress what it was and she didn't know so she left to find out and came back to inform me it was a mix of green tea, lemongrass, and something else (I forgot what she said). But it was a Tazo Tea brand so I could go buy it if I wanted :) I ordered a yellowtail appetizer in a yuzu soy sauce (citrus soy sauce) with jalapenos on it. I picked off the jalapenos and really liked the rest, although for $11 it was a little pricey. The yellowtail nigiri was very good. I also ordered the ika (squid) sushi but they were out. Overall I think the menu has a lot of good choices.... but two things I noticed were the abundance of mangos to a lot of dishes (not common at all in Japan but I guess Americans usually like their food sweeter), and the menu sadly did not have udon noodles on it. I can't wait to go back and try more sushi combinations!

Seven combines good basic rolls and dishes to keep traditionalists happy with a nice creative edge and daily specials that makes for an exciting menu. The noodle bowls and non-sushi options are great and expanding. For a new restaurant, the front and back of the house came together very quickly after opening and I've always had the optimal combination of attentive wait staff and excellent food. The daily special Jose Erin on Feb. 16 was memorable with the jalepeno and sriracha somehow not outweighing the excellent fresh tuna. Recently, the yakisoba noodle bowl with grilled octopus (best grilled octopus I've had since a trip to Athens) and sriracha sauce was dancing right on the edge of perfectly spicy enough. The point by another reviewer on the gyoza missed the point. Who cares if it is deep fried or pan-fried? The gyoza is one of the best things on the menu and I'll always sacrifice tradition for flavor when I'm looking for flavor. If I'm looking for tradition, there's more than enough sashimi and nigiri to keep me happy. Extra credit for rolling with wild rice on the MPLS. This reminds me that all tempura that I've had at Seven has been consistently excellent and never too greasy.

All four of us ordered sushi, and by any standards, it took a really long time to prepare. Were they out back catching the fish? If the sushi was ordinary, I would have been ticked, but it was the freshest I've had in a long time, and the flavor pairings were well thought out. I had the Sparkin Larkin and the Cowboy rolls. Definitely will come back here next time in town, perhaps on a night they have a fast sushi roller.
(4)Jon D.
Great sushi! I've been here a few times and every roll I've tried was great. If you like Yellowtail and jalapeño, try the Hammer Roll. If you're looking for sushi in Bozeman, Seven is definitely worth checking out!
(5)Ali P.
To be fair, if we were on the coast I might give them a lower rating. But as far as Bozeman goes, this is the best sushi restaurant in town. I exclude Montana Fish Co because they aren't quite a full restaurant. All the food has been fresh and well prepared. The rice is excellent. The staff is wonderful and they also have a great happy hour! The house white is very good, and the rest of the wine selection has always been excellent as well. Recommend the himachi collar to start.

Great all around! Tasty food. Great service! I've been there many times and my girlfriend and I always love it. Cheap Saki at happy hour is the way to go!
(5)Sarah B.
Tried some brand new menu items on Monday the 16th... WOW! The mussels with miso broth were divine! On par with the superior fish quality that I have always experienced at Seven. Also ordered the seared Diver Scallops with katsu sauce... Amazing sauce... We actually dunked our chicken satay in that sauce and practically licked the plate!!!! Of course our favorite items include: tobiko nigiri with quail egg, yellowtail - salmon - scallop sashimi, salmon salad with ginger dressing (which is not on the new menu & I will miss...) I need to try the new salad option!! And of course another fav is the Cali roll with real crab!!! They always have great beers on tap, Bozone Amber, Sapporro of course, and lots of great rotators!! Try Silky Mild Sake... It's the first choice of all the staff at Seven

Friendly servers and good quality sushi. The Naked Ninja was light and tasty, and a good size portion overall. I enjoyed the little addition of having cucumber water instead of just plain water. Nice, clean restrooms, too. Happy Hour prices from 3-6pm, Monday-Friday.
(5)Tabatha E.
Excellent restaurant and experience! The "yummi yummi" roll is aptly named...as it is double yummi squared ;) my favorite roll of the night!
(5)Lindsay B.
Ah seven, in my eyes you can do no wrong. There have been a few mishaps, a mistake in our to go order for example, but the food is consistently awesome and the sushi guys rock. The soco mango roll has to be just about my all time favorite roll ever.
(5)H P.
I love sitting at the bar bar while having my sushi rolled. Favorite restaurant in Bozeman. Great food, good secret menu. Wish it were a little more classy and that I could watch the rollers actually roll the sushi.
(4)Kira E.
To say this place is good is an understatement. Seven sushi has been and will be my favorite restaurant in Bozeman. Try the Jaw Dropper and Alaskan rolls. You can never go wrong with sweet fries as well:) the only reason I haven't given it a 5 star is because the service is sometimes lacking in speed. Overall this is a great family friendly and exciting restaurant in Bozeman. :)

My roommate and I ate here on our way to a concert. We were seated promptly and the waitress was friendly and very helpful. We are relative sushi newcomers, so she was able to offer some suggestions to make sure our experience was enjoyable. The sushi was pretty and very tasty. Overall, a fantastic experience!

I had been to Seven a handful of times before going again recently and had had decent enough experiences. My last visit, however, was almost shockingly bad - enough to make me not want to go back again. I went with my boyfriend, we were seated immediately but we asked to move to a table not quite so in the middle of traffic - when we sat at our new high top, we found that the chairs were uncomfortably high for the height of the table - we had to lean down to eat anything. This is not a thoughtful way to set up a restaurant. We ordered four food items to start - the spicy spider roll, the hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar, and they were out of this), seaweed salad, and the sashimi platter, and boyfriend ordered a small house sake ("watered down"). The only thing that was good was the seaweed salad, which probably came out of a tub. (I said to my boyfriend "the roll was ok..." he said "it only seemed that way because everything else was SO bad"). The biggest disappointment by far was the sashimi platter. For 29.99 the menu says you get 15 slices of fish, sushi rice and sunomono salad (a sort of pickled cucumber salad - it was ok). When the plate came out I couldn't believe that was what they were giving us for that price. I did count, and it was 15 pieces, but it was the saddest 15 pieces of fish you ever did see. Poorly arranged, with no care, on a small plate, with a couple of pieces of sad veggies tucked around the slices, with half the fish looking like it had seen better days many days ago. When I tried to pick up a piece of what I think was yellowtail, all 3 pieces were stuck together - the sushi chef had not even properly cut the fish into separate pieces. When the waitress came back, we told her it was not prepared well and she apathetically brought it back to be redone. When it returned, it seemed slightly (very slightly) more peppy on a wooden board with a few more veggies around, but when we got down to business we discovered that more than half the fish tasted bad - the seared tuna tasted like nothing but grill, the escolar was chewy, watery and tasted like, well, bad defrosted fish (gross, really), the salmon was just ok, same with the yellowtail, and the octopus had the taste and consistency of rubber. When the waitress returned we said we were very disappointed and explained why and she, again apathetically, said she'd take it off the bill if we didn't like it. My boyfriend was still really hungry at this point and so he somewhat desperately ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner ("I just wanted to order something I knew they couldn't screw up") and, seriously, we both started laughing when it came out. It looked terrible ("fancy cat food") and tasted totally mediocre. The rice that came with it - cold! The service was not acceptable. When we voiced our concerns to our waitress, she acted like it was simply a matter of personal choice, rather than showing any real concern for how terrible all of our food was (and, another note - she personally delivered our teriyaki, which was after we returned our original entree. I imagine there was an opportunity for her to check to make sure it was at least being served how it should be and, unless they intentionally serve the rice with their entrees cold, she ignored this opportunity). There was no genuine attempt to make sure we ultimately had a good experience or felt taken care of. When our bill came, the sashimi platter had been removed (and taking it off the bill was not a favor - it was awful), however we had to ask her to remove the hamachi kama which we never got because they were out of. An incorrect bill is a little thing, but when its piled on top of everything else it makes you feel like they could not really care less about you, not even enough to make sure your bill was right when you were obviously not happy with your meal. Other things: we watched another waitress do a shot with her table, in the middle of the restaurant. Hey - maybe if things were going really well and you guys were rocking it across the board this could maybe be ok, but a moment like that just adds insult to injury when you're having such a crappy experience and the servers are acting so unprofessional. Also - WHO IS IN CHARGE HERE? We looked around all night once things started going down hill for any indication of someone who seemed in charge and no one seemed to fit the bill. Over all we had a totally unacceptable experience and will probably not ever be back. As a server at another local restaurant I understand the challenges of this job, and I'm sure our server knew we weren't happy and felt bad about it (I hope anyway), but what we saw from her as customers was someone that didn't care that much and would not validate our concerns. Maybe you're better off getting some sort of crazy roll here, which can better camouflage sub-par fish, and following it with sake bombs - which is the approach it seemed like most of the restaurant took. Sayonara Seven.

Found this place on Yelp and took it for the recommendations. Well, let's be honest, this place is mediocre at best. We stopped here because we could not stand the thought of another piece of meat on our road trip across the central states. And for these purposes it suit our needs. But... The "awesome" sweet potato sticks were just OK. They were not greasy but they we not special. (In fact the flour coating left a gritty flour taste in my mouth... I hate that.) The menu was everything that is "hot" in the culinary world right now, dashi, ponzu , etc... But there was nothing exotic. Everything was made for the pedestrian sushi eater. Mostly rolls with catchy names and ingredients that make less scary. The sushi was edible and the fish portions generous but inconsistent, our first Spider roll was huge, the second one was lacking. I am reminded that I am in Montana and this is probably as good as it gets.
(3)Audrey B.
To expensive. Seriously, it cost about 3 times what it's worth. I ordered water and they brought it to me with a cucumber floating in it. That's just gross. The sushi isn't bad, but it's not worth even half what they charge for it. They're menu is very limited, which wouldn't bother me if it was just good. It's really not that great & they want waaaaay too much money for it.

Holy Cow...Dave's Sushi was our first three Sushi experiences and Dave's is great, now doubt. However, went looking to expand our horizons and stumbled on this amazing place and will probably continue to be our goto Sushi until something else even better comes along. Like Dave's they pay special attention to their Vegetarian selections and offer some truly creative and tasty creations. We started off with their Sweet Potato fries drizzled with sweet soy sauce and accompanied with a wasabi aoli. Mind blowing. I wish the sweet soy came as a dipping sauce as well, but we are talking incredible. Hand cut, too. This wasn't Sysco frozen fries dressed up. This took thought and care to produce. Enjoyed the following Veggie Maki's, though there were other apps and entrees I could have had as well. Naked Ninja - Tempura fried tofu, avocado, jalapeno, cream cheese & sprouts. Finished with sweet chili 7.99 Seraphim - Tempura fried scallion, avocado, red bell pepper & cucumber. Topped w/ avocado & scallion oil 7.99 Ziggy Stardust - Marinated tofu, mango, cream cheese, & avocado. Flash fried then finished with sweet soy & toasted coconut 10.99 St. Louis Sushi Providers...you are on notice! Step up your game!

Being from California and constantly surrounded by a dizzying array of sushi joints to chose from my Montana family wondered why we chose to go to sushi while on our vacation here . I can enthusiastically say we made a great choice, this sushi rivals/beats many places I've been! The staff is attentive, friendly, the atmosphere is upscale and the sushi is bomb. Montana has given me one more reason to love it! I'll be back soon :-)

After a day of mountain biking near Bozeman, myself and two friends were starving and looking to have a luxurious dinner. Deciding that we wanted sushi, from a good place, we were ready to spend with no concern. We arrived at 5.15 on a weeknight and the hostess told us that a table would be ready right away. We went and sat at the bar to pass the time. It took about 5 minutes for the bartender to greet us (there was only one other couple at the bar), he threw some napkins down and then went back to making servers drinks, never asking if we wanted anything. After flagging him down he reluctantly got us some Sake and had a extremely arrogant attitude about the whole thing. After 45 minutes of waiting the hostess let us know that our table was ready, we moved over excited to finally start eating. We ordered some appetizers and three rolls to get started. The food was all heavenly. Props to those sushi chefs, for a bunch of american kids, they sure cook like japanese trained sushi chefs. Everything was so good that it was all gone in a matter of ten minutes or so. This is when the waiting began... We didn't even see our waiter on the floor for 15 minutes. Once she came back on the floor she totally ignored our table for another 15, spending all of her time chatting with other tables. We very obviously wanted to order more food, which she seemed to care less about. If we weren't so hungry, we probably would have walked out at this point, but the food was so good we decided to order more once she finally showed up again. The awful service continued for the rest of the meal. If it wasn't for the absolutely amazing food, I would have given this place 1 star.

Our favorite sushi joint in town, and our favorite compared to some East Coast towns too! The servers know our names and are invariably a delight. I always feel great from the moment we walk in the door - mellow lighting and clean Asian fusion decor ease the day's tension and leave me anticipating the meal to come. The food has never let us down. Favorite rolls include: Bridger Bowl, Big Sky, Sesame Street, Hamachi Popper, and so many more. The Hamachi Kama (grilled yellowtail collar) is a terrific value at only $8, and the dipping sauce really brings it to life. In the world of sashimi and nigiri, the yellowtail toro is a particularly flavorful treat. Desserts are by Cupcake Mountain - yum! If we ever have to move, Seven Sushi will be high on the list of things we'll miss.

Good sushi. Love their happy hour. Nice staff. Better than Dave's sushi. Will be returning.
(4)Jen B.
Great service with Nicole and David behind the bar! Amazing night. Thank you seven for never disappointing! You guys rock it!
(5)Justa A.
Amazing happy hour! $3 local drafts and awesome sushi for very reasonable prices. I've have great service here 3 different times. Will continue to come back!
(5)Alex H.
I have gone to Seven Sushi multiply times for many reasons, mainly because the food is delicious and is always made well. Good service, nice daily specials, cocktail menu and full menu, not just sushi. I love the movies that play on the walls as I sit at the sushi bar. If you want a good meal I recommend Seven!
(5)Jenny H.
their menu offers a cleaner palette than dave's, but the fish itself is of equal quality. really enjoyed the light flavor of the octopus prime, but thought the sweet, chili sauce on the big sky ruined the roll. seraphim was layered, tasty, and made me want to come back to try their other veggie options.
(3)Jo T.
Very friendly hostess and waitstaff. Great choice of beers. Our group of 4 ordered various dishes. Sweet potato fries (unique) Edamame Grilled Korean short ribs (not bad) Calamari (awesome) Sushi and sashimi assortments (excellent) Udon noodle fusion style (meh) Various rolls Extremely loud and young crowd. Taking off 1 star because most of the menu is fusion stuff, like cream cheese in a number of maki rolls or rare beef combined with raw fish In a maki. Had to look hard to find items that just didn't sound too weird. I find that most Asian fusion food is pretty disgusting. Also, they need more than 1 person tending bar. Lots of confusion and delays there.
(4)Amy K.
The sushi is good. But I have never had good service at seven. The servers there seriously could use some help. Otherwise I would recommend
(3)James J.
Last August, of 2012, I rated these guys 4 stars. Since then, this place has gone downhill fast. Also, what's up with all these people raving about the sweet potato fries??? If you go to a sushi restaurant to order fries, you have issues. If your best item on the menu is sweet potato fries and you are a sushi restaurant, you have issues. They changed the menu and upped the prices. Now, it is very overpriced and the last few times I have gone, I was less than impressed with the service and quality of the food. Wait times are extremely long after you place your order and the attitudes of the servers seem to have hit a new low. I used to prefer this place over Dave's but now I will need to re-evaluate and give Dave's another shot.
(2)Jerry M.
Wish it was gluten free likes Dave's. I asked the guy in the Red Sox hat about gluten free options and he seemed annoyed. Fish is great. 5 Stars will be giving when someone gets a clue about gluten. Q

My boyfriend and I love this place for a date night! The restaurant itself has a very sophisticated atmosphere. The food is amazing! I always have the strawberry fields roll which is something unique and tasty. The yaki-soba noodles are good, not excellent. However, the service is always subpar. The wait time between being seated and receiving our food was 40 minutes. Our waitress hardly ever came by the table, but she wasn't unfriendly. Love the sushi here! The service needs some attention.
(4)Joe M.
I wanted to know if there was a good place to get sushi in Bozeman and now I know there is. Seven Sushi has a nice atmosphere, friendly service, and good sushi. The wait was a bit long but it was a Friday night so it wasn't too unexpected. The appetizers came out really fast, the food on time, and the dessert actually took longer than the food because it had to thaw out a bit, but when it did it was perfect. I prefer to have my own new chopsticks as opposed to their in house ones, so I asked for some and got them. The prices were average but I'm hoping to make their happy hour next time I'm in the mood for sushi to see if they have some good deals going on then. Even so, I'll be back, it was good.
(5)Ashley H.
I would give this place five stars for the sushi. We had the special of the night and it was wonderful!!!! I've been here before and like I said I love the food, but the servers were not very nice. They seemed more concerned with each other. I'll probably be sticking with Dave's because the servers are always so nice there.
(4)Jennifer K.
After being here a few times, I recommend sitting up at the sushi bar for the best service! The chefs are awesome, they ask questions about your taste preferences to determine the specials they think you will like. Great place to go for a date night! Their happy hour specials are awesome. They have a lot of unique sushi rolls and good selection of other foods for those who don't love sushi. When ordering a drink they are more than happy to bring you a taster, which is something you don't see a lot of anymore. Really enjoy this place and plan to be back again and again!
(5)Nicorie S.
Great sushi and variety of other dishes for those that dislike sushi. I went here for a girls night birthday dinner for a friend and we ordered about 8 different rolls to share. All were delicious, especially the SXSW. I highly recommend it! A few things that lacked was that our waiter seemed a bit checked out. We had to wave him down a few times. And, a friend had a bad experience going here from the moment she walked in with a NFL team sweatshirt on. She overheard the bartender say something very rude and derogatory to her and her husband. They stayed because the food is good, but they weren't impressed at the uncalled for comment. Things that could make it better: - Attitude checks for the employees here should be mandatory. Pay attention to your customers and BE NICE! Your food is good, but your service can really suck. Work on that...
(3)Steve K.
Good food, good happy hour prices, but I can't believe they are not open for lunch! Its a nice place though, clean, and plenty on the many to choose from.
(4)Morgan H.
Sushi here is great. It's pretty creative. Although they removed my favorite non-sushi entree from the menu, I still enjoy going here. It's on the pricey side, but hey, indulge sometimes right? I never end up leaving a good tip though. The service is usually pretty bad. They only hire little skinny girls from msu that strut around in short skirts not paying attention to the guests. It's unfortunate that this place doesn't go beyond looks to hire people. With more quality employees, this place would be great.
(3)Angela P.
This place had a great atmosphere and an incredibly good looking staff, the rolls were delicious, but we left there less satisfied than what it cost us to go there. They have enough beers on tap and alcohol to keep anyone satisfied, but for the price we should have been stuffed.
(3)Amy H.
Being so far from the ocean made me weary about sushi. But this place has great quality foods. I tried the Ziggy Stardust (vegetarian roll) and the edemame, and both were great. The only down fall was that it took forever to get my food. However I was compensated for the wait with a free drink which was unexpected. I definitely see myself craving this roll when I get home and will have to suffer until I can come back to Bozeman.
(4)G. D.
Seven is located close by so we go there somewhat frequently. The staff is pleasant and seem to try very much to please but they also seem a little fuzzy about how to ensure a good dining experience. Seven seems to be trying to come off as a bit "upscale" yet they miss the mark. If I wanted sushi made by hippies, I'd go to Dave's. Some things I would like to see them fix: 1. The nori on the sushi is like RUBBER BANDS. Either they're not toasting it before assembling the sushi or the rolls are pre-made. 2. They will seat a couple at a tiny table for two late on a weeknight when there are mostly empty tables rather than at a roomier 4-top. The hostesses change so often that they don't recognize regular customers. 3. Their (Chinese) chopsticks are pretty but almost impossible for eating the slippery food with ease. 4. The specialty rolls are too similar and almost all feature cream cheese, mayo, avocado, and/or tempura. 5. The dishes change for no apparent reason. If you liked something the last time you were in and order it again, chances are it will be completely different from the previous time. Also, the food photos that look so appealing on the menu seem to be generic photos from Shutterstock or the like, and the items pictured are not actually on Seven's menu. 6. Not enough classic dishes and not enough simple dishes where the ingredients stand out. The scallops in the scallop ceviche were good but it wasn't ceviche -- it was yelowtail jalapeño made with scallops instead of yellowtail (minus the ponzu sauce). Everything is slightly gooey with too much mayo/cream cheese, and Nobu Matsuhisa would never dream of putting alfalfa sprouts on the yellowtail jalapeño that he invented. Ick. How about some Japanese sushi chefs who know what they're doing?
(2)Sean F.
The second best Sushi restaurant in Bozeman. Seven is new to the Bozeman area, but the half-dozen times i've been here it is definitely good. A slight notch below the quality and taste of Dave's Sushi, but maybe I'm biased. The candied sweet potato fries drizzled with a thick, sweet soy sauce is one of the things I look forrward to here. I also had some sort of spicy tuna nacho appetizer that ended up being amazing.
(4)Taylor K.
This is easily the best sushi spot in Montana, hands down. I can't say I have a favorite roll or item here, because I've never had anything that didn't taste amazing. If you are trusting and adventurous (you should be in this case) you should order the Omakase--sushi rolls that are chef's choice. Always amazing, and always makes me want to come back again and again! The servers I have experienced there have been very friendly and knowledgable-I can tell they are well trained. Overall great experience start to finish. Try it--you won't leave disappointed.
(5)Jason M.
I was not impressed by the calamari but the rest was great. I run a restaurant and the service was grand. I will be back oh and the rolls were amazing.
(4)Betsy Q.
This place is so good. Hit it for happy hour! Yum!
(4)Candice C.
Udon noodles were a bit boring and the seaweed salad was very dry and bland. However, the pad Thai roll was unique and great!! (if you like cilantro). The rainbow roll was ok and the Powder Day roll was really good. Their rolls seemed fresh and our service was great!
(4)Holly H.
Love this place! I just had to write a review due to the fact that some people say the service is poor. This is not what I have experienced! I have eaten here at least 10 times. The servers are very attentive and eager to please. I have never had a roll at Seven that I have not liked......Pad Thai, Jose Erin, Seraphim, naked ninja, spicy spider, cowboy are all amazing rolls. Sweet potato fries are to die for :)
(5)Lauren M.
Went here for a "girls" dinner, and the urban, city feel to the restaurant is perfect for that. Though the prices are a little outrageous and can empty your wallet, the sushi is pretty unique and good. I tried to stay conservative and order cheaper rolls, but damn only the delicious-looking ones are the expensive ones of course. I tried each of my girlfriend's rolls, and all (including mine) were delicious. Fresh fish I could tell, which is awesome considering it's Montana. Delicious, but I was definitely having buyer's remorse when the check came. And as other reviews say, service is slow. I could have gone fishing and rolled it in my own sushi in the time it took for our food to come out, and our server took for-freaking-ever to bring out the check (which she finally did so after we flagged her down).
(4)Carrie K.
Best sushi, best atmosphere and selection of food overall. The wait staff was awesome too. Very kind and helpful.
(5)Johnny P.
This place has the best rolls. You wont find this level of quality from many places for this price. 2 dollar pbr's as well. even if you don't like sushi they have a lot for you. The wagyu beef is melt in your mouth quality. Wow!
(5)Joshua K.
Bozeman's new hot sushi joint? I'll stick with what we've got, for now. Seven offers the trendy big city atmosphere of a Los Angeles or New York sushi bar, but lacks the substance and quality of food required to elevate it beyond superficial. If you're looking for modern art wall hangings and art deco furniture, this is the place to hang out. Additionally you'll find mediocre food, and slow service--if that's the kind of thing you're into. Seven is located inside the new shopping center where Kagy meets Willson--but finding the restaurant itself takes a bit of effort, since it is currently without signage. When looking for the place, just aim for one of the unmarked suites--Seven is the one with people eating chopsticks inside. I'll give them slack on this, since they've only been open for a little over a week at this point, but the place has four different doors, and only one of them is unlocked. I know a piece of paper taped on the three locked doors pointing customers in the right direction doesn't fit the trendy theme of the place, but it would be helpful. I'm not looking to be cruel, however, and would like to take the time to point out how friendly the staff was. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside, and a very comfortable place to dine. Even though the tall stools look like something from a barbershop, they're not hard to sit in. The place is clean, and achieves the look it's going for. Let's talk about the food. We started with miso, opting to have mushrooms, scallions, and tofu added to the salty broth. It's a good thing we did, as the soup was either over-salted or simply sitting for so long that the saturation of miso paste became overwhelming. It wasn't the worst miso I've ever eaten, but it certainly missed the mark when it comes to being the sweet-salty-soothing miso experience you expect from the dish. For an appetizer we ordered the Garden Spring Rolls. While the flavor and assortment of veggies proved to be both refreshing and an excellent combination, the dish was not without flaws. The rice paper was poorly wrapped, which resulted in the rolls being little more than messy piles on the plate. It's unfortunate, as I can see the spring rolls being a real positive if they were more tightly held together. The dipping sauce is standard fare sweet chilli sauce, and it really does the appetizer's job--it gets you ready for the main course... ...which took about ten minutes too long to get to us. Yes, it took about fifteen minutes for us to get two rolls. If Seven were busier, I'd understand, but it was only 5:15, and we were one of four tables in the restaurant at the time. Later we ordered a third roll, and found the experience to be similar. The sushi menu itself is fairly standard. Everything you can get at every other sushi bar exists in one form or another here. The specialty rolls, normally the highlight of the Japanese restaurant, are also standard fare. It's unfortunate, as the identity of Seven's food menu is really lacking. Most of the rolls are variations of other rolls, and have a tendency to follow a formula. Fish + Cream Cheese + Tempura Something + Vegetable, occasionally spicy, occasionally straight-up tempura = specialty roll. We ordered the Rainbow and the Dancing Eel, and later the Pretty Penelope--a vegetarian roll. The Rainbow is the same roll you've gotten everywhere else, and has pretty good flavor. The Dancing Eel is a standard eel + avocado + shrimp tempura and cream cheese roll. Again, it's good, not great--pretty familiar. The quality of the fish seemed pretty good, and were all in all well prepared. The Pretty Penelope is mango, tofu tempura, cream cheese, and carrot. I was excited reading it on the menu, but disappointed when it finally arrived. Not only was the roll bland, but the ingredients were practically absent. With all three rolls we found the rice to be dry. I'm assuming that the rice was prepared earlier, and has been sitting in a cooker all day allowing the moisture to eventually be drawn out of the morsels. You know when you bring your rice home from a Chinese restaurant and reheat it in the microwave? Yeah, now imagine that being used for your sushi. The quality of the rice really brought down the first two rolls, making them less than average. With the Pretty Penelope, however, it was just one more mark in the negative. It's unfortunate that Seven isn't trying to push the bar in any way, as they have the advantage of being the new kid in town. Dave's and Looie's are really the only other sushi options in town, and both of them have managed to discover some kind of sushi-identity that differentiates one from the other. Sushi is a food that can be really rewarding to the creative chef, but Seven's chefs seem more interested in simply replicating what seems to work everywhere else. I'm sorry, but if your idea of creativity is simply making a Spider Roll spicy, it's not going to do the trick.

As most reviews have noted.. Service needs some serious help. :( And, yes, its really the detriment of this restaurant. They have tasty food and some of the best sushi in town (from what Ive tasted thus far) but waiting 30 mins for your food, having half your order show up and then waiting another 15 mins for the rest of it to show, and having to send rolls back because they arent even what you ordered....???...uh, yeah. No bueno guys.... Im afraid that even tasty food cant make up for the delivery process.

The food is great, very "artful" sushi, and the appetizers are awesome too. But, beware! Service is NO GOOD. You will wait much longer than normally at a sushi bar for your rolls, and you'll be lucky if they all come. Disappointing service, but good food. So, if you're in a hurry and have plans for after dinner, choose to go elsewhere. If they could get their service issues under control, they'd have 5 stars from me.... Might I add I have eaten here numerous times and the service issues have been the same every time: takes for ever, some things don't show up. Such a shame for a place with great food and a great vision.

My man and I had date night at Seven Sushisake. We were warmly greeted, nicely seated and very well attended to. It was Patrick's first dinner there and he is well traveled and an ultra foodie. We both loved every fresh bite of a wide variety. Aaron waited on us and saw to our every need in a very friendly and timely fashion. We love this place!! So lucky to have it in our little mountain town.

One of my favorite things about Seven is their menu. It is huge compared to other places. With 3 pages on the standard menu, plus daily specials, and a special reserve book for the "Good Samaritans" who make a donation to the food bank when they come in, there is plenty to keep my taste buds entertained at least once a week! There is something for everyone with amazing appetizers, noodle or rice bowls, cooked rolls, veggie rolls, and plenty of fresh fish options there is something for everyone! Not to mention the prices are great comparatively! There are many rolls featured commonly at any sushi bar that range almost $3 cheaper than at other sushi bars. This makes trying it out much less of a commitment., and being a regular easier on the pocket book. Big plus in my book!! I am a sushi fanatic. I have even worked at a sushi bar for a few months. I have been looking for a new sushi experience in Bozeman for quite some time, as the other 2 main options in town leave quite a bit to be desired these days. One hasn't changed their menu in 10 years. And, the other can be good, but quite inconsistent and a little stuffy. When Seven opened their doors, I was one of the first to jump at the opportunity. I have been back many times in the last few months. Each experience has been a little different, as many restaurants experience when opening their doors for the first time. I can say this tho, each experience has been more than positive enough to bring me back again and again. In fact, the only thing holding me back these days is waiting on them to get their liquor license (which I know is out of their hands) to complete the whole atmosphere. My biggest criteria of any sushi restaurant is quality of fish, and texture of rice. Seven has nailed it on both of these fronts. In my mind, the rest will come in time, and has made good advancements already. The fish is always fresh, although sometimes not the prettiest cut. The rice is the perfect texture 90% of the time. I had one disappointing experience with crunchy rice, but after expressing concern to the staff it has been great ever since. Sushi is an art that takes much practice to perfect. Presentation is a huge part of any dining experience, especially sushi. The owners seem to have taken a risk by adding some brand new rollers to a line up of very experienced chefs as well. With this learning curve there has been some inconsistency in the presentation of the rolls. I have a few favorites off of the specialty menu at this point. Even within the same rolls, there has been some variation. I am assuming that this has to do with who is making them. I will say this, it has come far in the last few months. Since opening their doors, Seven has gotten much better about plating rolls that compliment each other and do not fall apart as easily. The wait staff is always friendly which is huge in my book. I have an understanding that sushi is all hand prepared, which can create a wait time in certain instances. However, as long as the staff is attentive and friendly, I do not mind waiting. Although, I would be much more patient with a drink in hand, as I think many people would be. But, what can you do? I have brought many people to Seven, and none have left anything less than satisfied! I will continue to be a "regular" of this particular sushi bar for a long time to come. I invite anyone looking for something new and different with a little bit of culture in our little town to fall in love with Seven as I have!

We have traditionally enjoyed sitting at the bar in sushi restaurants. This was a new experience having some unfriendly tattooed punks bantering about skiing behind the bar. Long wait for food, edamame never came. We had to ask for someone to take our order and then for someone to bring a check. You have a long way to go to becoming a real sushi experience.

Cheaper than Dave's on almost every item. Food is awesome, service is great, (we wanted quaint, and quiet, and that's what we got). Try the Jawdropper Roll!!

Great alternative to the traditional joints in town.....service was a bit slow, but the food was fantastic - try the nachos, creative twist on a mexican favorite! There is variety on the menu, so there's something for everyone. Clean, fun atmosphere - I'll eat there every time I am in town!

Sub-par food was blamed on a new chef. Rolls just fell apart. Service was slow, even with what seemed like more staff than customers. Side door was constantly opening, freezing us out every 5 minutes. This fish joint is on the "Big R" until further notice.

I am STILL thinking about the "Jawbreaker" roll--YUM!! GREAT staff, cool atmosphere, amazing udon noodles. I wish I lived in Bozeman. The wine list was reasonable and good--I found my new fave!
