Good place for some food and drinks. Our bartender Taylor was nice and very attentive. Wish they had some of theChive beers from Resignation Brewery to match some of the theChive decor. KCCO!

As Bozeman locals, there was a time a few years ago when we avoided the Rockin R, but since we just had a fantastic lunch, we will definitely add it back to our list of favorites. It originally opened in the 1940's so it has long been a Main Street landmark. Now, they are catering to locals and tourists who want to enjoy a beer and a burger. The frozen generic patties have been replaced with fresh hand made/pressed burgers and hand cut fries. I'm still not sure I would go there during a college party weekend, but it's a great spot to sit on the Main St sidewalk and enjoy lunch on a sunny day.

Horrible service and warm beer. The bartender was rude and uneducated about the beer they serve. She told us that the Shiner they had a tap was a "domestic, like Bud Light". She meant that it was a lager...

If you want a divey bar that is sure to promise spilled drinks and broken glasses all over the dance floor, this is your place. Every weekend it promises drunk college kids and a typically younger crowd who are there to get their drink, dance and hook up on. Loud music, aggressive bouncers, and slow bartenders. This all adds up to an epic night out. Oh and if you want a pool table, you'd better be willing to wait it out and play to get a spot. I'd say the only time this place is a good bet is in the summer, when you can sit outside and enjoy a drink. Other wise, it's great for college kids and people who want to get their dance on. Don't expect great service or a short wait for drinks here.

Seems like the only place ini Montana that you can have a good time. But.... FOUR glasses were broken on the dance floor. Sharp glasses that if someone stepped on them, it would hurt them seriously. So I went up to the two guys working the door and told them that there was so much broken glass by the dance floor. They literally turned to me and have me the "sucking d***k" motion with their mouths and said "that's not my job." I was appalled. I thought I was doing them a favor they letting them know, so I went over to my friend and told her what happened. While I was telling her what happened one of the door guys aggressively approached me and started arguing with me in my face. And then his friend approached me and told me to get out? All because I was trying to help them get glass off the floor? I left. The end.

An awesome place if you are into the modern look and college bar scene, which I certainly am not. The old Rockin R had a great divey feel to it that I definitely miss, and the only thing left from that is the retro sign, which the interior of the new building doesn't match. Love that the owners were able to take a terrible situation and rebuild from it, just wish some of the old charm had stilled carried on.

This is the place if you want the college bar experience. I almost had to help break up a fight over a game of pool. Someone dropped a beer behind me and it splashed all over my back. We watched an already drunk guy get served 3 more drinks. It was entertaining watching him trying to get the straw into his mouth. The service was slow but the servers were nice and the drinks were good.

Maybe the dude trying to remember his 20s aka the owner should properly train his bartenders into having simple knowledge of basic drinks such as a whiskey up and a salty dog versus a greyhound. Jesus christ, this Playlist keeps no one dancing and definitely needs to be updated. Who cares if it's basic pop music. This is not a club, stop treating it like one.

OK, here's a report from an older couple that ATE FOOD here, with iced tea, in the front by the sunshine (about 3:30 - 4 PM). We were in a bit of a hurry, so we went to the bartender to get menus, but after that, our server was very attentive and courteous. My Blackened Catfish sandwich and side of (a bit different, but really good) Chili was very tasty. Well done!! My spouse had the Fried Green Tomatoes BLT and liked it, with a nice side of tasty thick fries. All was delivered promptly and HOT. A tad on the pricey side at $25.50 for two (with no alcohol), but not your normal boring fare. We can't comment on what a lot of folks complain about here...the owners, bar service and bouncers. I would definitely eat here again TO EAT.....but before the normal full rowdy bar crowd shows up!

Best bar in Bozeman, without a doubt. Definitely the nicest, biggest, and newest.

Great place to watch football on Sundays! Good food, cold beer, great service! If requested, they give you a speaker so you can tune into your favorite game.

Great space, and always packed despite how large it is. I suppose that shows that it is THE place to go out on a Fri/Sat in Bozeman. Plenty of pool tables in the back, and not to hard to snag one for the evening. Drinks pours are generous and are quite cheap (caveat: I'm used to Chicago pricing). Service, however, leaves much to be desired. Flagging down a bartender can be a pain, and that's not solely due to the number of people there. Even in mid-afternoon, bartenders/servers were MIA for an unreasonably long period of time.

I don't usually like bars like this (big, made to look nice kinds of places)...I prefer dives. And the Rocking R just continued to confirm that feeling. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't HORRIBLE, but nothing special either. Lots of college kids both of the times I went there. It also seemed to be run by college kids...some friendly, some bored with their job. You can get food here, but you have to order it separately at this little booth near the front of the bar. Pay for it separately there as well. Food is gross, greasy, bar food at a bigger price tag than necessary. Lots of TVs and it gets quite a crowd for college football. There's lots of seating around the bar as well as some booths and other tables. Too loud to hear any conversation though.

By far one of the nicer bars in Bozeman! The staff is friendly and attentive. I could do without them videoing everyone on the dance floor, it kind of creeps me out! Other than that it is a very fun bar (if it isn't too crowded)

Great tomato basil soup ... Added bacon to the soup at the servers recommendation (she is also gluten free) and it was phenomenal! $5 Bloody Mary bar is good too!! Plenty of Tvs for Sunday football too!

I don't really know how to fairly review this place seeing as how going out in Bozeman is COMPLETELY different from what I'm used to (Denver nightlife). My friend had just started grad school when I went up to visit him. Since neither of us knew the "hot spots", his (slighty douchey) roommate acted as our guide for the night. We headed to rockin R after getting some sustinence at Ted's. This place was packed, so I'm assuming that means it's "the place to go" on weekends. The crowd was young, Montana college students. I got a quite a few confused stares- which I am attributing to the fact that I was wearing 5 inch heels and a skirt (while everyone else was pretty much in jeans and boots), and that I just can't fight the rhythm and like to dance around even if no one else is. Once some time had passed, though, people were pretty friendly (maybe because they were drunk, but still). It shocked me how nice all the girls are at Bozeman bars- guess I'm just used to big-city bitches. Everytime we ordered drinks, we were served relatively quickly. The pricing was pretty average, but the bartenders made our drinks STRONG. If I happen through this cow-town again, I'd probably wander through.

Used to love coming to the Rocking R back in college. Stopped by this weekend to relive. Sat AT THE BAR with no service for almost 10 minutes. Made eye contact with a few bartenders with the "Hi, can I get a drink" look on my face. Finally got up and went a few doors down to the Crystal where I was taken care of. I can't tell you about the quality of the drinks since nobody would wait on me. Can't tell you how good the food was because nobody would wait on me. Customer service sucks. I guess you really can't go home.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon to watch NFL football. Tons of TVs -- every game was on somewhere. Fantastic. Good beer on tap, a couple of cheap specials. Had some fries, which were average thick-cut skin-on. Service was fine. Despite all of this, the overall vibe was just "OK." Not bad, but not great. Had that "college bar after a big Saturday night" feel, i.e. sleepy and slow.

Terrible service. Miserable bartenders. Overpriced, mediocre food.

  • Howard R.

While it is better than the old version of the Rockin R' much to be desired here. Nice they are always having beer specials. Nice they have the Pickle Barrell for a good sandy. Usually nice scenery for both the boys and girls. But what is the deal with the owner/mgr? Everytime I go in he's yelling at some poor college kid. Last time it was about not ordering enough mustard. Lighten up dude. Until you do I'm going down the street to the 317.

  • Jeff H.

This is NOT your older brother's R Bar. I kinda miss the smell of stale beer and that certain something that the old haunt seemed to have. I only know the Rockin' R from my semi-annual road trips down I-90 to Bozeman, but I always seem to end up at this place. I've never seen it under capacity and there always seems to be a line to get in (this IS Bozeman, isn't it?). In short, you'll be happy with the drinks and probably run into someone you know.
