By far, the best Mexican food in Billings. Bar none. Their soft corn beef tacos are loaded with meat, lettuce and cheese. This is one of the few tacos I've eaten that "stays together" and doesn't fall all over the place. Their "hot" sauce is to die for and for once, it's HOT. If only this place had a decent atmosphere, tables and chairs. It's very cafeteria looking. If this place was in a nice restaurant with a bar and full liquor license it would be an absolute gold mine. What's funny is Billings has some gorgeous Mexican restaurants that unfortunately think good Mexican is dry pork on rice with a side of beans. This place is truly a culinary delight. Best time to go is for LUNCH and please, go early! There was a continual stream of people standing in line and then outside the door waiting to order. Can't wait to go back!

Cheap and good if your heading to lunch from school with friends but I would never go there because I choose to. There are still many inexpensive and nicer places to get tacos/Mexican food from.

So I was just here and the hard shells, best in town. The shells, lightly fried like at a fair and a touch oily. The beef wasn't greasy like taco J or B. But the flavor came up a tad short. Lettuce plenty and the cheese. My friend raved about it. But I took a plain bite of cheese and it's velveeta! I don't like cafeteria velveeta. So I covered it mostly in the verde sauce. Good. The hot sauce is freakin hot. Little goes a long way. Flavor is alright. I liked verde the best. I'd like to try some other things that have that shell or similar like an Indian taco or a chimi. And maybe those cheese crisps. But if the cheese is just velveeta I may steer clear of a plate of them. Oh yeah, staff is friendly and the decor is lacking. Chair was comfy actually. No texture on cashier desk walls or ceiling and the tv was a 16" little tube tv in the corner playing annoying Fox News. I couldn't find a garbage so I took my plate up to cashier desk and thanked them. I guess I should have left it there.

Not impressed with the food. Menu choices are extensive but service was slow. An over use of tater tots in the meals.

Food is ok but customer service and attitude are terrible. Did not receive the rice and beans which were supposed to be included. Some staff members look at customers as if you are interrupting social time. I have tried to give this place a chance but have been disappointed on both occasions. I will not be returning.

Taco Treat has a lot of options for cheap. We couldn't tell if it was a fast food taco place, because the food came quickly and there was a pretty big line, but it still tasted really good. I would have preferred more toppings/vegetables and hot sauce on my tostada and burrito, but I'm sure next time, I can just ask for it.

Ummmm.... It must be because I am not a Montana native. I drive by here all the time and wondered what taco treat was but I am picky about Mexican food so I wasn't ready to take a chance. Then I read Buzz's review. Sounded amazing and I was excited to see it so full of people. The gals at the counter were so nice and helpful with any questions we had and that was great. Then the food came out... The best part of my meal was the fry bread that my Indian taco came on. Though the flavor of fried dough is good no matter where you are. Other than that our meal had a familiar nastiness to it that I couldn't quite place. Then it hit me! My school cafeteria! Everything was bland and tasted terrible. The hot sauce was okay but I had to go get ranch to add something to it... Then my wife stole my ranch and put it on her taco (I've never seen her do that). She fed some of the bean paste (retried beans) to our 9 mo old and he liked them alright. We laughed about how wrong buzz was... Especially coming from a guy who has been around in Arizona. The food was one star but the girls at the counter were super nice which made it two. This is not Mexican, you can get better flavor at Taco Bell or Taco Johns. Now the place was packed and several people referenced it as their favorite place so maybe if you don't have a palate for real Mexican or if you like bland mass produced products then this place may work out. Maybe it's a Montana thing that I know nothing about. I do know this... When we were talking with another couple about it (also not Montana natives), they were having trouble trying to describe their experience and when I mentioned school cafeteria she said "yes, that's it. I wouldn't have been able to place it " (btw, she is a school teacher). I might go back for one of those crispy cheese things next time I am craving some grease, they looked like a pile of greasy awesomeness.

I love Taco Treat! I may be out on a limb all by myself, but I think the quality of the corn shell tacos and nachos far outweighs the somewhat sketchy ambiance of the Billings' location. The food is relatively cheap and much better than comparatively priced fast food mexican. If you are looking for a quick spot for lunch, look no further.

Their cheese crisps are amazing. Good hot sauce too. By the way there is a industrial hand dryer in the bathroom. Very cool.

Below are some important things about this Taco Treat location. Food, and atmosphere are important things. The food is great. I highly recommend the beef enchiladas. I would describe them as delicious plates of melted beef cheese pools. I am not sure why they taste so amazing. I have attempted to copy the recipe several times without success. The tacos are very good. They are fat, and filled with beef, lettuce, and processed cheese. That is about it. The corn shells are soft and oily. Perfect. The atmosphere however, truly sucks. The decor is ugly and lazy. White restaurant walls are adorned with a smattering of cheap Mexican cliches. A television is blaring away by the counter. Stacks of crappy trade magazines sit on metal racks near the pop machine. The tables are often uncleaned for more than ten minutes. I can't recommend spending a lot of time in the restaurant. However, the food is awesome.

Well I am certainly glad I read up on this place before going. It seems to me that Linda K. is in the wrong business. It's so arrogant for a business owner to lash out when people don't say exactly what they want to hear. Part of being a successful owner is to take all feedback in a constructive way so that you can improve on the customer experience. Too bad, just because of your comments, Linda, I won't even stop in. It's a shame because everything sounded pretty good regarding the food. But attitude goes a long way and I'm sure carries over and is reflected in your service. Good food is certainly easy to find. What people are truly STARVING for is not good tacos, but great service!! You shouldn't be so sensitive, I guess that's just how it's done at TACO TREAT though!

Great place, and run by perfect people. Native Montana run! It's homemade fast food made to order and hot when you get to eat it! Homey type atmosphere. (you don't have to watch the TV.) I can't decide what I like best? But their Indain Tacos are worth their calorie count! (I just eat apples the next day.......just kidding!)

Ah, Taco Treat... A Montana institution - well at least as far as I'm concerned! I really enjoy the food here - great tacos, cheese crisps, nachos, and other Mexican selections. It's good food served fast, not fast food. Though it's nothing fancy (and isn't trying to be), it's quite enjoyable, and the folks that work there are friendly. I visit here at least once a week, and I have tried almost everything on the menu. They do offer some daily specials, so be sure to check those out prior to ordering! I would recommend checking out Taco Treat If you find yourself in Billings and are looking for some decent and affordable Mexican food.

Geez..., I really don't want to knock these guys or leave a negative review. But..., I want to be honest about my meal I had there. The main gripe I have with TT is the cheese they use..., it's like velveeta or american and to me that's no bueno!!! I could be wrong about that, but what ever cheese it is taste very processed and doesn't lend itself well to mexican food. If they used cheddar I would of easily gave them 4 stars..., their food does have potential for sure.

I loved this restaurant. It has a wide variety of menu items, ranging from Mexican to some American dishes such as chicken nuggets and fries. The price is good and the food is fantastic and they serve it on real plates-not paper, if you're dining in. The workers were very friendly also. It is the best Mexican food in Billings. Loved it.

I don't remember if it was this exact location I ate at, but this is some of the BEST fast food I have EVER had. The cheese is so yum, the tacos are beyond fantastic and the service was great. People in general seemed friendly in Billings. If you are somewhere where's a Taco Treat, you MUST MUST go.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
