Fantastic food!!! I lived in Okinawa for 8-years and this was spot on with the great sushi we ate over there. I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting a great meal. The service was good, with no issues...we ate late in the evening so it wasn't busy. That being said, even if it were a slight wait...the food is definitely worth it. FYI, they don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own...so if you want a beer or wine with dinner, grab it on your way.

Coming from seattle for work here in Billings, I just had to try something different than the usual steak restaurants around here. I understand the ocean is far so I wasn't going to get the freshest food. -ordered the beef ramen soup. $9 Good tasting beef and broth. Wish it was more japanese style (slightly thicker noodles with an egg, radish, etc) -ordered the spicy salmon and unagi avocado rolls. I really didn't like the salmon, but I wasn't expecting much. The eel was surprisingly good, but it had way too much rice vinegar for me. Overall, great staff and good happy hour 2:30-5:30 bogo free rolls. Because the staff and beef was good, I might come back and try their teriyaki plates

Absolutely amazing. I ordered calamari tempura, deep fried golden tiger and my wife ordered real Ramen, and my daughter ordered the traditional California roll. Chalamari was awesome, by far some of the best since leaving California 2 years ago. The tiger roll was to die for, I could of eaten 3 of them. My wife loved the Ramen, I tried it as it was really good for my first time eating Ramen. My daughter said her California roll was really good. I will defently be eating here again.

I'm part Japanese, we're used to west and east coast sushi and have always avoided it inland. But we came here based on yelp reviews when visiting my husband's family in Billings. I was blown away. How someplace so far from the ocean can have such amazing sushi is a mystery to me but I think it earns five stars just for that. My in-laws are hooked! You can tell a lot just from the miso soup and we knew this was the real deal. We also had and loved the dragon roll, the samurai, the fire dragon, the unagi avocado, and the yellowtail and salmon sushi. The decor is nothing special but there is plenty of room and it looks like they had a back room for parties too. You would easily pass this place by based on the exterior, but don't. If you are in the Heights, stop here, ask them what is fresh, and have it! You won't regret it.

I walked in and waited a few minutes before I was greeted and told to sit any where. The server/cook walked over said nothing and put a bowl of soup in front of me. He came back with water and menu. Still said nothing. He came back and took my order. "Ready?" Was all he said. The rolls came out quickly, but definitely were not the freshest. I didn't see the server again until I walked up to ask for my check. "Done?" Was all he said. Overall, if you are looking for something quick and not really wanting to drive far it is ok, but there much better places 10 mins down the road.

Super good and very fresh food!! Haven't tried a sushi roll I didn't like. Green bamboo is one of my favorites. Atmosphere lacking just a tad. Friendly and fast service.

These days I call California my home, but as I was home for Christmas, I wanted to take my mom and stepdad out for sushi. My stepdad has never had sushi so I checked yelp to find the best place to make a good first impression. This place had 4 stars and was pretty well reviewed, so I brought the family out to try it. The first course to come out was the nigiri: 2 orders of tuna, salmon, and halibut. These were really good. It wasn't the freshest but I've been spoiled in Cali. Taught everyone to use chopsticks. Everything's going great. Then the rolls start coming out and everything went to hell. Next came the Cali roll and the spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna was mushy and fishy. The Cali roll was just okay. We didn't get any ginger with these rolls, which was strange. Maybe they forgot? Well, the dinner rolls were next, so maybe they'll save dinner. We got the rainbow roll, a roll with salmon and lemon on top, and the Sapporo(?) roll in order of bad to worst. These rolls were all drowned in some weird sauce I've never experienced before and never want to again. The first two would've been okay without the sauce. The Sapporo sounded good on paper, but didn't deliver. None of these rolls came with wasabi or ginger! I wanted to ask but everyone working there disappeared. With tip, it was about $80 for 3, which is about what I expected but Okinawa just didn't deliver the goods. My stepdads first and likely only experience with sushi was a complete bust.

Moved to billings 6 months ago and had the darnedest time trying to find affordable, delicious sushi places this far inland. My wife and I are used to Southern California and Western Oregon sushi (quality and pricing) and were initially disappointed with the price-to-flavor ratio of the sushi in Billings. After finding this place that problem has been solved! EVERY DAY from 2:30-5:30pm they have happy hour where every roll you buy, you get another roll of equal or lesser value FREE! This was by far my best sushi experience in Billings. Quality was good (comparable to Fancy Sushi and Asian Grill), and the prices are even better! Definitely support this place, they are awesome!

My husband and I have loved sushi for a long time now and since newly moving to Montana we have soon realized sushi is much more expensive here than down in California! We have missed the prices and quality for awhile now until we came to Okinawa Sushi!! You can't beat the prices!! Buy one roll get one free from 2:30 - 5:30pm EVERYDAY! The rolls were priced great! $4 - $8 for regular rolls (including spicy rolls) and about $9 - $12 special rolls (including Tempura rolls and fancy rolls). So basically, you are getting 2 rolls for the price of ONE. Not only a great price and good quality but a really nice staff! For the two of us to get stuffed on sushi, it was only $22 for 6 rolls including 2 special rolls!! We couldn't even beat that price in Southern California! Overall, GREAT prices (cheapest in Billings during happy hour), good quality (for being in Montana), GREAT staff, and happy stomachs. My husband and I will be calling this our new date night sushi restaurant for sure. Try it out! You won't regret it!!

Great service and good food. Not bad for Montana! Happy hour from 2:30 to 5:30 every day.

I was raised on sushi. My dad is a fanatic and always wanted to try every sushi bar that we came across so I know good sushi when I eat it. By far this is not only the best but also the cheapest place in the Billings area. Right away we were greeted with friendly and helpful service. We got our menus, drinks and fantastic miso soup right away. Without asking we were brought little plastic deals to help the kids use their chop sticks (back when I was a kid we had rubber bands). The portions were very large and the prices were so cheap compared to the other places in Billings we have tried. At the end of the meal the chef brought us all a delicious complimentary dessert. A family of five walked out of there completely stuffed for only $45!! No joke. My one and only complaint was their lack of a liquor license because I enjoy my hot sake. However, they allow you to bring in your own. ;-) Highly recommend them and can't wait to go back and try more things!!

Finally a restaurant with quality, fresh seafood in the Heights!! All the sauces are handmade, and they make their own low sodium soy sauce. They also provide a non-gluten soy sauce if you request it. The chef brought us a plate of lightly breaded fried red snapper as an appetizer, topped with a mild sauce. The fish was done to perfection, light and flakey. My wife ordered the Tiger rolls. Be sure to tell them the level of spice you want on your rolls. I ordered sashimi with salmon, shrimp, eel, and octopus along with a sushi roll. We finished the evening with a small dish of green tea ice cream, very light on the sweet so you can taste the cream and the tea. I told my wife I will be stopping in here regularly!

My sister and I used to be regulars at Nara.. Until we tried Okinawa! Their sushi is delicious, fresh, and extremely low priced! We couldn't believe the prices we paid for the amount and quality of sushi we ate! I would highly recommend Okinawa to anyone who loves good sushi. The staff is very friendly and we never have to wait very long for our meal. The presentation is nice and again, food tastes great. Five starts from us EVERY time.

Stupendous as always!!! Everyone is leaving happy in my group, including our wallet! Happily full, tried the aloha roll! Was really good. King Kong is still our favorite by far though. Nicest most courteous staff! Love this place.

I have to disagree with the reviewers below on the food at Okinawa. Traditional sushi seems terribly misunderstood in Montana and Billings in particular and yes, I realize we don't have an ocean as a border for the state. The staff is as other reviewers have described: very friendly and helpful. I believe they are trying very hard to make their business grow and I would rather write an uncritical review. But in this case I wholeheartedly disagree about the food: it is quite bland, pretty sloppy and to me, not terribly fresh. Great sushi is characterized by incredible freshness, color and vibrant, clean flavor. What do I mean? My wife and I came in after they had been open for a little over a week. The decor and lighting are too dark and drab for a sushi place. It felt empty in there on a Friday night. The 6 page laminated menu is garish and has too many entries. Instead of marking your order down on a sheet like at most sushi places, you speak your order. At the time of our visit, there was only one sushi chef behind the bar and no visible sous chef support. We started with a California Roll, usually a safe bet and a favorite with my wife, which was fine. On the strength of that and the eagerness of the waitstaff, we ordered miso soup, agedashi tofu, and several other rolls that included baked snapper roll and soft shell crab (spider) roll. I wasn't impressed by any of them. The ingredients were bland and the rolls pedestrian at best, the same flavor and many of the same ingredients - avocado, cucumber, roe - in every roll that appeared. The miso soup was like dishwater - flavorless and insubstantial; I couldn't see into the back kitchen, but this has got to be a cheap microwaved packet miso soup. The tofu was grainy and not good. Additionally, many of the rolls were slathered with a cloyingly sweet mayonnaise that hid their blandness/sameness. That is just poor form and unheard where Japanese tradition is concerned. Sure the portion sizes were large, but amazing, well crafted sushi (and sashimi) should be about quality over quantity all day long. I was really unimpressed overall and have to say I am surprised/shocked at the other positive reviews below. Misunderstanding contributes to a general lack of familiarity with ethnic cuisine here in Billings, I get that, as I mentioned before. The staff at Okinawa is super, absolutely no question about it. However, I didn't find the food served here remotely authentic, flavorful or well executed.
