I was directed to this little cafe by one of the staff from the Old Court House Museum just up the street. He told me the food was excellent, and he was spot on. The cafe is in an historic building and was probably a house at one time. You feel like you're stepping back in time when you open the door and walk in. The lunch menu was not very large. Everything on it was $10 even. This included tea or coffee. Soda was extra. I appreciate not being ripped off for a glass of iced tea as so many other places do these days for $2 plus. I had the daily special, which was blackened chicken. It was served with some kind of sweet corn relish, which complimented it very nicely. It also came with rice, green beans, and soup or salad. It was all very good ! The homemade pies looked delicious, but I'd already had enough. Service was friendly, informal, and just right. I highly recommend this cafe.

I cannot say one negative thing about this place. The food was delicious, its is a very charming place, the owner is present and very involved and the girls waiting tables are probably the friendliest and most polite waitresses I've ever encountered. True southern hospitality at its best. Do not miss it when you're in Vicksburg, MS.

We lucked out finding this place in the historic district of Vicksburg, when searching for a locally-owned restaurant with character. The owner of Main Street Market Cafe is an authentic Cajun Creole cook and uses fresh and healthy ingredients to create his Southern Creole dishes. Both my husband and I had the gumbo, which comes with a fresh salad of romaine lettuce and sliced fruit and freshly baked miniature muffins. All were excellent. The menu changes seasonally. The cafe is nestled in an historic 1840s building and decorated tastefully. They also sell local books, arts and crafts and gourmet groceries.

My family & I were passing through and looking for a light lunch. We were lucky enough to stumble upon this quaint place! The food was wonderful and reasonably priced for the portions. The staff had the wonderful southern hospitality you would except from a locally owned restaurant. Great find; I would highly recommend Main Street Market Cafe!

Nice casual experience. The red velvet cake was my favorite. The menu has an classic American flow. The service reflects southern hospitality. Definitely a place to check out if you are in the great city of Vicksburg

Being from Vicksburg, I've wanted to try this place out for awhile. I finally made it down there and the food was good. I had the bacon cheesburger on ciabatta bread and it was great. The pickles were sweet and I love those over dill. I also had the gumbo that was ok. My only complaint is that I asked for sweet tea, and I got sweet tea only it was some kind of mint sweet tea. Now being from the South, when I ask for sweet tea I want straight sweet tea.. nothing fancy.. the mint tea wasn't that bad.. it just wasn't my cup of tea... Overall, it was a nice atmosphere with friendly staff, fast service and the food was good. I would recommend visiting.

My boyfriend and I were in Vicksburg for the day and we decided to try Main Street Market Cafe after our original plans fell through. All I have to say is I am glad they did! We had a great meal, good service and a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy our lunch. The decor is quaint (I absolutely loved the tablecloth we had!) We both had the loaded baked potato soup - you could tell it was homemade and it had a little bit of spice to it. Definitely a must have whenever it's on the menu! I had the muffaletta sandwich which was good and my boyfriend had the cheeseburger. He really liked it. We had the blueberry cheesecake for dessert which was a great way to end our meal! You can tell everything is made with fresh ingredients. Definitely will be returning the next time we are in Vicksburg!

Charming older home converted to a cute restaurant. Excellent food, pleasant staff, fast service. We were there for lunch and were glad that we arrived early; on a Friday it was quite busy. We both had blackened chicken which was moist and tender. The gumbo and split pea soup were tasty. The lemon chess pie was good, but was probably the weakest part of the meal.

Working nearby makes this our lunch go-to for my coworkers and I. We usually call in our orders, especially when out of towners are visiting our office and we kind of show off with this place. The food is always excellent. The lemon chess pie is phenomenal. Great owners. All around fantastic. A++

Excellent food, friendly service and just a very unique place. We were traveling from Dallas to Chattanooga and came across this place. If you're driving through Vicksburg it's definitely worth stopping.

Perfect lunch on a cold winters day. I had the gumbo and muffuletta. Talk about delish. I savored every bite. My friend has the quiche and the salad. She loved both of her offerings. My favorite had to be the homemade bread and butter pickles. Not your ordinary pickle for sure. There was a definite party in my belly!!!

Outstanding -- fresh salad and rich gumbo! Terrific value and real Southern service and atmosphere. Blueberry Cheese Cake to died for!

If you are looking for healthy, wonderful, non-fried food you MUST check out this place! Wonderful vegetables and fish with Cajun spices, amazing healthy alternatives in Vicksburg. They don't even have a frier in the place and as tourists from California we were a little tired or eating fried everything in our journey through the South. The menu changes and everything is made fresh to order so if you are vegetarian or lactose intolerant they can accommodate that! The fresh tilapia was just wonderfully spiced and we were so glad to have found this place!! Wonderful service and cute little environment as well.

What a great little southern cafe, very quant and feels like home. The waitress was as sweet as could be. And the food was delicious, I had a blackened chicken Alfredo pasta that was the special of the day. It was to die for.

I try my best to avoid chain restaurants wherever I go. Yelp helps a lot with that.... and thanks to Yelp for helping me find this place. I found myself in Vicksburg for three days, and this restaurant looked exactly like the type of establishment I try to find.... so good I went twice. The staff knew everyone that walked through the door.... except me of course. During my second visit, the extremely nice lady that ran the place said "I'm going to need to know your name if you want to come in here twice in one week!" A great place to get some lunch. Highly recommend!!

This is a quiet little neighborhood cafe with a lot of Southern charm. The food is good but not superb. We had the blackened tuna with mango avocado salsa and scalloped potatoes. Unfortunately, the food on the dinner menu is grossly overpriced. The portions are small. Although plenty for a meal, nothing here to justify the $25.50 entree price tag. The tuna came pre-sliced and was a bit dry even though we ordered it rare. It was not hot from the grill. And we were the first two people in the restaurant for the evening. The service was equally mediocre. While very friendly and polite, our server was not especially attentive. We had to request napkins. My husband's coke was poured hot from the can into his glass, for an extra $2, with the can left at the table. Also the bathroom was not clean, and at the beginning of the evening, the trash can was overflowing, and the toilet paper roll was empty. I retrieved an extra roll from the edge of the sink. I think I could have overlooked all of the above and given 4-5 stars if the prices had been more appropriate. But for a $70 meal for two without ordering any adult beverages, or dessert, this was something of a disappointment. Perhaps lunch would have been more satisfying.

Visiting with friends in VIcksburg, we drove around and we stopped in here. Really great food, great service, good pricing and selection. Definitely on my list of places I want to revisit on my next trip to Vicksburg.

This was almost a five...the only issue I had was that my stomach want big enough to try their other dishes. My wife and kids shared red beans and rice, gumbo, Cajun cassoulet, and the hamburger steak...quietest meal ever since they were too busy eating.

I'm glad we came in for lunch today. Everything was delicious, and I'm leaving happy. I had the gumbo with a side salad, and my fiancé had the shrimp remoulade pita sandwich. And we shared a chocolate pecan pie. I would happily come back.

Based on yelp reviews we stopped for lunch awhile passing thru. Very friendly service and the food was good. I am very picky about gumbo so I sampled theirs but wasn't crazy about it ...too thin and had too much of an okra flavor. I had had the special which was beef stroganoff and a salad and both were good although the stroganoff tasted more like beef stew. My wife had the chicken sandwich and salad which was very good.

Excellent lunch. Salad very interesting with cantaloupe and strawberries and the ginger dressing- it works well together. I had the fried chicken pita wrap- good amount of chicken on soft pita and delicious sauce. Wife had the chicken and dumplings which she enjoyed. I think it's just kinda boring. The dessert (choc chunk pecan pie) was nothing to write home about. Still, I enjoyed it.

With the help of yelp we found our way to this perfect lunch spot. Not only was the food excellent, the atmosphere very southern, and the service was great. The owner, Sally, was most gracious and a delight to talk to. I had the gumbo which I consider the best I have ever eaten. My husband had the red beans and rice which he said were delicious. The salad was a real treat....served with fresh fruit and an incredible ginger dressing that I will try to replicate. Usually I'm not a dessert person but had chess pie for the first time and it too was wonderful. Wished I lived closer so I could enjoy eating here but definitely will stop by on my next trip to Vicksburg. Thank you Sally for a wonderful lunch.

I've been eating out in Vicksburg for many, many years. I can honestly say that I have never before had an 'off' meal. Dining out, whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner has consistently been excellent. Until last Monday at Main Street Market. It came highly recommended. Maybe it was the chef's day off - if so, close down the next time! The three people in our party each ordered a different entree - white beans with blackened shrimp, spinach quiche, and gumbo. All three, disasters - beginning with the accompanying 'house salad' which consisted of old, limp bagged greens topped with a thick gelatinous goo dressing. The 'vegetarian' white beans were bland, despite having liberal amounts of mystery meat (!) throughout. The quiche had been poorly microwaved, resulting in a tough crust and disgusting texture. The gumbo appeared to derive its rank flavor from a coffee-ground based roux. This was, hands down, one of the worst meals I've ever had the displeasure to be served. To top it off, the pitiful slice of lemon chess pie was 'garnished' with a worm-like squirt of canned whipped cream. It's a sad meal that cannot be redeemed by dessert. And the table linens were tired and felt grimy!!! Awful!! I hate the thought of unsuspecting visitors or tourists eating here and thinking that this repulsive food is representative of fine Southern cuisine - in particular, Vicksburg food!! Go anywhere else - Walnut Hills, Roka, Rusty's, Rowdy's, the Tomato Place, Lillian's, the Biscuit Company, even Newks (local chain deli), ANYWHERE - but patronize this restaurant at your own peril!!!
