This was great! I had the Hungry Man (or Woman) Breakfast (2 eggs, pancake, hash browns, and bacon), and my husband got the waffle with duck butter (the owner's homemade syrup) and a biscuit and gravy. It was all excellent, but the duck butter syrup was what made it so worth it--it was almost caramel-y and so amazing. Shouldn't have waited so long to try this place--I'm already ready to eat there again!

In the category of "cafe", there is none better. The Starkville cafe has a classic "meat and three" any day for lunch, or an outstanding country breakfast anytime. They have recently began offering steaks on certain nights, and they are the best steaks in town. They will cut them to your preferred thickness. Make sure you get onion rings as a side, as they are undoubtedly the best onion rings anywhere!

Worst decision ever! Horrible wait staff. Food was badly prepared. Coffee was burnt. Worse part - I asked for creamer and waiter gave 1 creamer for 2 persons. Never ever going back here. Big mistake for trying to eat local. Ever again!

Hands down the best breakfast stop in Mississippi. Always busy so come early. Especially on weekends. Try the duck butter on your next waffles. I really like the country ham too. Locally owned and diehard Miss. State fans. #HailState

Go here if you like getting leftover breakfast rush food. Like ice cold sausage and recooked scrambled eggs that are chopped up into tiny, rubbery pieces.

I mean, it's good but not great. Kind of your standard diner setting and quality of food. Not much else to say.

Wonderful! MY Pulled pork omelet was really good and the comeback sauce was a tasty surprise! My daughter got the waffles with " duck butter". The duck butter was oh so good, the waffles were slightly disappointing. BUT, the duck butter made up for everything. We'll be coming back. Our waitress was great, too.

Had breakfast here today. Got the biscuits and gravy. They were delish! The waitress didn't bother us too much and we could talk without being interrupted but as soon as we needed refills she came right over without having to be asked. Some of the signs on the walls are so funny!

Duck sausage and waffles with duck butter are amazing! Really hit the spot. Great breakfast spot.

Another Starkville locale I have been remiss in reviewing....again was here in June 2012 and this little place was adjacent to my hotel (Historic Hotel Chester, love it by the way!!) Now my hotel offered a free breakfast but I, by God, wanted to try Starkville Cafe and I did and I loved it!!!! Service was great, food was delicious and trust me I know breakfast foods...I enjoyed the experience but look if you think you're gonna get some epicurial delight from this place readjust your thinking!!! They do straight ahead down home breakfast fare, the kind I grew up on in the thickets of Morehouse Parish, LA...Eggs, fried or scrambled (hell they may poach them), grits, bisuits and gravy etc...Just good ol' "stick to your ribs" breakfast food I got nothing but love for this place and next time in Starkville will make the time to grab me a morning meal here!!!

The staff was okay- they seem to cater well to their regulars. The atmosphere is more of an old-South diner type and the workers seem to, more or less, carry that personality. Unfortunately, it did seem like the waitress was more interested in chatting it up with her coworkers in the back rather than in staying in sight, as we needed to call on her several times. My fiancee and I had Bully Burgers. Maybe the breakfast is better, but the burgers were prepared horribly. The whole burger looked like the cook gave it a grease bath after slapping it all together. Took one bite and the whole thing fell apart. Worse part is the fact that there was no hint of the patty being seasoned or flavored in any way- just pure grease. It was literally the worst burger I've ever tasted, and made me feel as if it was deliberately made that way. Based on that, I probably would not go for breakfast. I don't see why it would be significantly better if no effort is put into a simple burger.

Yum! Very good service. Messed up the drinks but too nice to tell her she did. The biscuits and gravy are amazing.

Starkville Cafe is the quintessential local diner / cafe. The food has always been good, but for the past several years (with new ownership) it has become outstanding. Several people have commented on the waffles and duck butter. They are a solid choice. If you ever need a ham, brisket, or pork shoulder for a holiday, ask for John. He can absolutely take care of you. His cooking supplies the brisket and pork for the Cafe, and he offers it for catering on the side. If you are looking for a tablecloth and fancy napkin place - this is not for you. If you want a great hometown meal, give it a try.

We visited this place for the first time based on a recommendation; and what a good call! We all ordered different breakfast items and every single thing was delicious - chicken fried steak; waffles with Duck Butter; homemade sausage; and smothered hash browns. The service was excellent and the owner is really nice (a US Veteran - Thank you for your service Major Peeples) I really wish he'd let me bottle up that Duck Butter and sell it in Houston...it would sell easily because it's not like anything out there right now. Lastly, the prices cannot be beat for the quality of food they put out - worthy of all 5 stars!!

Had breakfast this morning at the cafe. Daughter is a student at MSU and says thy have the best breakfast on town. My husband and daughter said their breakfast platters were good. I order just a poached egg and a biscuit. Was disappointed that my egg was more of a hard boiled egg just out of the shell. I am sure they would have redone if I had asked as they were very friendly and our coffee mugs were constantly being topped off. It was getting very busy around 830.... Will try them again but will probably opt to try the waffle with duck sauce instead of poached egg.

a great american diner. Services was fast and friendly. Food was great. Definitely check it out for breakfast.

Super cool local diner, went here for breakfast and it was everything you would want from a local diner in the south, great food, cheap prices, friendly staff, and a great old school feel. Plus it seemed like every local in Starkville was there and that is usually a great sign. Would recommend the pancakes for $4!

Great breakfast food. I highly recommend the waffle with the Duck Butter. Anything with Duck Butter would be good (yes, including bacon), but you only get it with the waffle.

Starkville Cafe has really nice workers. The food is not that good to me. I'm not saying it is bad. But, it's not my favorite. Maybe I just haven't had good experiences because I know others love it! I do like to go some mornings with friends and get a bite to eat, drink some Joe, and talk. With all of that said I do recommend this place for breakfast.
