I have been visiting this place for about as long as I can remember. It is right up there on the list of places I bring foreign friends. The gumbo is mediocre. Don't order it if you want a real representation of gumbo. I will send you up the road to my mama's house. The all you can eat catfish, hushpuppies, fries, and slaw, coupled with a true sweet tea provide a good example of southern cuisine at its best. My grandparents swore by this place, and my son eats here. I consider it a part of my heritage. The hushpuppies are sweet, melt-in-your-mouth balls of heavenly delight. I judge all my hushpuppies by Cuevas' standards. When I was a child, Mr. Cuevas used to pass by all the tables and make sure you were ok. He set a great example for southern hospitality and genuine interest in the satisfaction of his customers. Perhaps I am biased by his business technique....but Cuevas' hits the spot for southern fried catfish and comfort. I should also note that this refers to the Purvis location. Thanks.

From the outside it looks like a major hole-in-the- wall kinda place. It is.... Picnic style seating in open room, with two much smaller areas to the side. Food was good. Extremely fried- down to the pickles. Portions were large enough to feed people who actually want to eat. Down fall is that they only accept cash or personal checks. Who carried checks anymore? I had to go down the road to find an ATM. Another thing is the smell from outside. Not pleasant at all. People from this area love this place. I personally, only stopped as I was passing though.

Drove all over looking for great fish after leaving my moms heading home to New Orleans. After finding the place it was dark with a sign saying only open Thursday, Friday & Saturday 11am to 9pm so oh well I guess we'll try Fatties, since the reviews seem to be pretty good. NOPE!!! It ain't there no more... WTH??? Somebody just don't want us eating fish today or something... Dang it!

The absolute best fried catfish, coleslaw and hush puppies anywhere! You cannot buy a catfish platter cheaper (or for the quality and taste) at other restaurants. The all you can eat price beats the competition!

Down home country atmosphere. Come as u are... Hungry! Good food, even better service. Friendly - family business where all are made welcome with a personal greeting Looks are deceiving. It is much larger inside than the outside appears. They even accommodate parties & have separate room for your next event. Another reviewer claims the gumbo not so hot at the Purvis location, but Picayune has yet to let me down. It is my favorite!

I haven't eaten here in almost 10 years, but let me tell ya'. These people used to make THE BEST HUSHPUPPIES EVER!!!!! No one else compares! No one! I have not had hush puppies like theirs since.

If you love all-you-can-eat amazing thin-sliced fried catfish, Cuevas is as good as it gets. We've been making the drive from New Orleans to Picayune, MS for about 25 years once or twice a year to go to Cuevas and we love it. For about $10, you get all-you-can-eat catfish, fries, hush puppies, and cole slaw. Everything tastes great. The service is a 10. We always have a great waitress who is extremely helpful and nice, and they are always stopping by to refill your drink and ask if you'd like more catfish or sides. It only takes about 45-50 minutes to get there from New Orleans, and it is always worth it. They have strange hours, and are closed on certain days. We usually go on Saturdays for dinner, and I think they are only open for dinner. Also, it is cash only. I last went about 3 months ago, and will be heading back soon.
