I have lived in Oxford since 2009 and have worked in the restaurant business for two years, but I had not been out to the Ravine until tonight. On the recommendation of a friend, I made the drive out of town to have my first meal at the Ravine. I can certainly say that I would have happily driven twice as far to enjoy the incredible dining experience I had. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the staff were very welcoming and knowledgable. They started me off with a palate cleanser of fig with balsamic vinegar and goat cheese, which made me want a whole appetizer of it. Second course was a roasted local pepper bisque with a basil and goat cheese emulsion. One of the chefs was a friend through the restaurant scene so he treated me to a few small plates. Pimento cheese croquettes, fried okra, and calamari - all of which were prepared expertly. My main course was a Latin smoked pork shoulder with beans and fresh guacamole. The perfectly cooked pork fell apart with almost no effort. I ate as much as I could, but thanks to my generous friend in the kitchen, I ended up taking half of it home. Every aspect of this meal was executed with skill and professionalism. I highly recommend the Ravine, and I plan on visiting again very soon.

I had no idea this part of Oxford even existed. This place is hard to find. I drove past it three times as their sign is tiny and isn't well lit. The French onion soup was very rich, in a good way. Striped bass and crawfish etouffe was flavorful. The bass was better than the etouffe. It was under seasoned and watery. Overall I'd say this place is worth a visit. It's a tad over-priced but certainly not by much. It's definitely better than that junk John Currence is schlepping out on the square.

Hands down my favorite fine dining restaurant in town. The best place to get a seafood dish- always cooked to perfection- anything from oysters to rainbow trout. The soup though. It doesn't matter what kind of soup it is, get it. Even if you're not sure how it's going to turn out- get it! Also, excellent wine selection. Laid back, cozy, fine dining experience. Really pleasant and romantic without feeling uptight. You can relax and enjoy a nice evening of dinner without worrying about running into a million people in town. One of the best kept secrets of Oxford. Do yourself a favor and go.

Ravine is the best restaurant in Oxford, MS--hands down. I went here the first time back in 2011 when I was still at Ole Miss--I have been countless times since. The duck is phenomenal. I don't do many Yelp reviews, but this place is special and deserves the kudos.

Our first time here at the Ravine was definitely an enjoyable one! My boyfriend and I came here on Friday night to have dinner with another couple. Service was fantastic! Super friendly, and definitely made the meal more enjoyable. The ambiance did play on the notes of being a former home, but it was a nice place to be for sure. (ANNDDD! The lighting was dim, but not too dim, which makes every lady look even more beautiful than normal! Hah!) Now for the part that we all want to know... THE FOOD! Between the 4 of us, the ladies ordered the chicken and the duck while the men ordered the steaks. My friend said she thoroughly enjoyed the chicken (drumsticks), and her boyfriend said the steaks were cooked perfectly. As for the pickier food snobs? Bf said his steak was a little on the drier end, but I LOVED my duck! Seriously, it's probably the best duck I've had in Oxford. The skin was crunchy-ish, without being burnt -- which I LOVE! The skin (almost) reminds me of peking duck from Chinatown, which is pretty damn delicious. The rice pancake, on the other hand, I could have done without. Not a fan, and probably won't do that again. All in all, a good way to start our night out. Didn't get a chance to try desserts since we were on our way to another event, but this is definitely a place I will try again! TIP: Putting this address in the GPS will overshoot the location. Look for a house with a "banner of flags" on the left, and go down the long driveway. If you see the big church with the big parking lot on the left, you've gone too far!!

I am from NYC. I'm a foodie. So when I was able to be a guest of the Oxford Film Festival, all I could think was MOVIES AND FOOD??? I'M IN! If I could do a yelp review of Oxford, it'd get five stars. And Ravine was the perfect cap to a perfect weekend. They accommodated about 25 tired, exhausted filmmakers, jurors and film fest fans. The drinks were always replenished. The staff was always sweet. They even laughed at some very corny jokes. The food was stellar. It didn't rely on seasoning, but instead worked the magic of heat and ingredients. Butternut squash soup was a simple start. I admit I regretted the order as soon as I saw the brussels sprouts, but still liked the soup a lot. And I was at first jealous of the people who ordered pork chops because it was so gorgeous. But once I got my chicken and dumplings, I was the happiest girl in the world. A taste of my husband's steak was also a fork full of heaven. Dessert was these little blintzes with strawberry slices and cream. By then, I was just being gluttonous. I could barely hold another bite, but I still powered through until the last dollop of whipped cream was consumed. Thank you Ravine and thank you Oxford Film Festival. My mind, heart and stomach will always remember you.

Great food and great service! I especially love their Sunday brunch. Everyone that works here is very welcoming, the food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is beautiful. Everything ingredient is very fresh. They even tell you on the menu where their food comes from. Love it!

A damn-near perfect dining experience. Four of us came here on a Saturday night and they were super busy. They still managed to hit all the right notes. Our server was not only efficient and knowledgeable but was hilarious and bantered back with a table of semi-buzzed ladies (we had a couple pre-dinner drinks and wine with dinner - don't judge). We had the following, which was passed around for all to sample. Antipasta Caprese Brussel sprouts NY strip Bass Rabbit Pappardelle Creme Brulee All of it top-notch. I had the bass, which was solid. But the real star of that plate was the roasted vegetable Israeli couscous. I would've been happy with a trough of that stuff. Our bill per person was $56 - a steal when you consider the caliber of food.

My mom and I came here for brunch - I got a delicious gazpacho and omelette. The food and ambience are wonderful but can only be topped by the service. We were served by Will who was attentive and so kind. Definitely recommend for people with their families and friends!

Fantastic restaurant off the beaten path in Oxford. Closest competitor to City Grocery, with nodds going to the latter, but Ravine knows what is up! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Great experience for me and my wife's three year anniversary! We're locals and heard our friends rave about this place, so we thought we'd give it a try. We came on Wednesday night, which is their "Tapas" night, which is basically getting appetizer sized portions and ordering several different items. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on everything and very friendly and attentive throughout. We started out with the cheese plate, which had an assortment of different tasty items, including a Vermont-cheddar that was my favorite. The bread was also very delicious. Next, we had the fish tacos and fried chicken wings. Both were prepared well and prepared using locally bought ingredients, which is a huge plus for us. Finally, since they were appetizer sized portions, we added fried calamari and beef tenderloin mini-burgers. We also had a desert that I can't recall the name of, but it was (like the rest) a very satisfying end to a great meal. I'll be honest, at first I was disappointed we didn't make it for a night that included the full menu but by the end of the meal, we were both happy we made it for "Tapas" night. We'll definitely have to come back to check out the full menu.

This is the only restaurant in Oxford we really crave each time we pass through the area. The food is healthy, local and delicious. Ravine sets the standard for the dishes on its menu and ruins us for other restaurants' versions. Everything on the menu is worth trying, in particular the duck, ribeye and quail. We also sometimes like to order all the small plates instead of the entrees -- we love the lobster risotto and brussel sprouts. Chef Joel is an amazing talent! Wish we could take him home with us!

the very best local ingredients! best food...best presentation...friendliest owners!

Went there with a small group after a business meeting. The ambiance is nice and ther servers are friendly, when you could find them. Most of the options are of the "small-plate" style. I had the lobster risotto, foie gras and patatas bravas. None of these was very good. The lobster risotto had WAAAY too much pepper in it and had not lobster flavor at all. The seared foie was okay, but not worth the money for a teensy-weensy bite. The patatas bravas were under cooked and not crispy. As for the service, it was severly lacking. People got their dishes at different times. Some people got two items before others had received even one. Either the kitchen or the servers need to pay more attention. The wine list is nothing to get excited about and the were out of half of the things we wanted. The white wine was served way too warm and the server (Charly, I think) knew absolutely nothing about wines and proper serving temperatutes. On my next trip to Oxford, I will look for someplace else.

Consistently poor food is only one of the reasons I have had enough of this restaurant. I think I gave them about three chances, but each meal was worse than the previous. Not only that, but when I brought this problem to the servers I had, they couldn't be more indifferent. To be honest, I don't understand why a restaurant so far removed from the business district of Oxford, the "Square," would run such a bad restaurant.

Other than it was a little warm inside the building, we enjoyed the meal as much as we always do. This is one of our favorite places in Oxford. Everything is locally grown or harvested. You should always try the specials.

Great evening at Ravine! Warm atmosphere, great service and delicious food! Had the striped bass with etouffee - delicious. House bread is also delicious. Definitely a must!

This place is wonderful. I always get something that is delicious. The service is very consistent and good. I just love this place and I love that the family lives upstairs. This is everything that fine dining should be. Warm, intimate and crafted. I can hardly stand the square restaurants and I don't know what my wife and I would do without this place.

Beautiful grounds, warm atmosphere, competent service, great food - a true alternative to City Grocery when in Oxford, MS. which is of great value when staying for an extended period of time in the town of Oxford

Visited a few more times since last review. Still wonderful. 1. focaccia with herb oil Continues to be excellent. Not too salty, not too oily, baked just right. 2. chocolate zucchini bread Delicious! I usually ask to go without the chocolate ganache sauce on top, as I feel it's perfect without it. 3. coconut ginger ice cream Heavenly! So much coconut and ginger flavor, so creamy and delicious. 4. eggplant parmigiana A perennial favorite of mine. The last time I had it it was even more perfect than usual. Eggplant rounds covered with panko, with just the right amount of tomato sauce and cheese. So good. Why can't other places make it this well-balanced instead of oily and heavy? 5. vegetarian pasta lemon cream sauce with egg noodles and veggies. I usually detest cream sauce, which is typically heavy and rich. This one has a lightness to it (perhaps from the lemon) that makes it just yummy and not too rich. 6. veggie sushi I loved hearing that they were branching out to Asian cuisine, and it was a decent dish, but not one of their stronger ones. The sushi itself was ok. There was a pile of noodles served on top of the sushi. The noodles were kind of salty and oily. In any case, still a great restaurant. Goodbye, until we eat again!

Ravine is tucked away in a quiet corner of Lafayette County, off the beaten path and away from the over-crowded square. It feels like a nice log cabin inside but the menu is not something you'd eat around a campfire. The Strawberry Lemon Drop cocktail is handcrafted mixology but it's not overly fussy. The wine and spirits menu is small but selective, yet not too pricey. We recently went on a Wednesday for tapas night and with everything on small plates and less than $10, our large group ordered most everything on the menu! The scallop with cauliflower puree and red pepper emulsion was perfectly cooked, the pork and duck sausage meatballs were savory goodness, the special locally sourced beef tournedos was cooked to succulent perfection and the sauteed brussel sprouts could convert even the pickiest 5 year old. We all loved the smoked salmon goat cheesecake and the desserts (not tapas style) were outstanding. Especially the strawberry cobbler with locally sourced strawberries and a tiny square of key lime pie on the side was a great finish to a wonderful meal.

I just got back from brunch at Ravine, and it was honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. The ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are amazing. The music in the background adds to the great ambience (it's actually good jazz, not cheesy elevator music). I had the orange crepes, the white cheddar cheese grits, the fried potatoes, and the blueberry lemon trifle. Honestly they make the best grits and biscuits I have ever had (and being from the south I have eaten a LOT of grits and biscuits), and everything was just bursting with flavor. I will definitely go back to try some of their dinner entrees. The prices are so reasonable and the food is simply to die for.
