This is the best food we had while spending a week in Natchez, MS. The price was moderate, the service was excellent.

Ate here for dinner and loved it! Among our table we had - fresh oysters, shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, blackened catfish dinner, the combo dinner with popcorn and butterflied shrimp and the alligator cheesecake (it's savory, not sweet). Everything was good and the servers were fantastic. Highly recommend!

Roux 61 is basically a fried seafood restaurant just outside the city limits of Natchez. The menu is large but the majority of seafood is fried catfish. It's been open for over a year, but upon arriving at 5pm on a Saturday night there was almost no place to park. The wait was stated to be 35 minutes but thankfully did not take that long. The interior is open and fairly plain with lots of wood and animal heads giving it the feel of a lodge. Our appetizer was shrimp cocktail and gumbo. The shrimp cocktail was better than expected with many large shrimp nicely presented in a martini glass. The gumbo was small and acceptable, but a different tasting dark roux than I expected. The Bloody Mary was overfilled with vegetables - a very tasty drink with a large price. The side salads were the best I've ever seen to come free with a meal. They included a selection of greens (no iceberg), plus mandarin oranges, cranberries, feta and pecans. However the balsamic vinaigrette appears to contain onion powder as every bite of this delicious looking salad tasted like onion. I'll try a different dressing next time. We had a very pleasurable meal of blackened redfish over pasta and a combination of coconut shrimp and fried catfish. The redfish was a nice portion including 3 shrimp but the best part was the sauce which was very flavorful without being spicy. Still, the sauce had too much onion for my taste. The fried platter was large and delicious with very tasty shrimp and a fantastically light breading on the catfish. Service was above par. I think you'll enjoy Roux 61 if you don't mind waiting to get in.

This restaurant has the look and feel of a chain restaurant but it isn't. This is the only Roux 61 and it is a very popular place to eat in Natchez. And that is for a good reason....because it is GREAT!! The first time I went here I just had a salad. It was a wedge salad and those are my favorite types of salads to eat. It was served on a big plate with a huge wedge, homemade dressing, and real bacon bits. It was a meal unto itself. The second time I went I had the seafood platter and we had the gator bites as an appetizer. The gator bites are a must get if you come here. They are very spicy and come with a spicy sauce to dip them in. The portions at Roux 61 are huge so you aren't going to leave hungry. The seafood platter was your basic seafood platter you can get at most seafood restaurants but this one stands out because it was so good. Oh, and they serve REAL hushpuppies too....real good ones at that.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch with my mom and niece here! I had pop corn shrimp, yummy, but enough for 4. My mom had fish and shrimp, she loved it. My niece had a hamburger and sweet potato fries. We all enjoyed it! We all took food home, and it was good the second time as well. The service was great!

A little ways from downtown Natchez but not too far. Ordered pound of boiled shrimp and feel got at least a pound and half or more. Serving sizes are always generous and prices not bad. Very cold beer and one of favorite places to eat in Natchez.

We heard about this place from some friends, its about 80 miles away but good food is worth the drive. We arrived on a Saturday so it was moderately crowded. The entrance was also crowded but we were quickly greeted and quickly seated. The drinks are great and the bartender was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was exceptionally nice. We had the soft shell crab and the fish and shrimp platter. The fish and shrimp good, the soft shell crab was salty. Other reviews also said the crabs were to salty... they were very correct. Over all the food was above average good and the portions are of good size excluding the mountain of fries that everything apparently come on. Yes I plan to revisit and try other dishes.

By far one of the best casual dining seafood restaurants we've visited during our muti state travels. They have a seafood version of a loaded potato (1 pound by itself) with sautéed oysters, shrimp, crawfish and lump crab with lobster cream sauce - comparable to Emeril's Restaurants! If we visit the area again, this is one of those restaurants we will want to visit again.

This restaurant has very good food. Their salads are so delicious. My only complaint would be potion size when purchasing a seafood combo. But this is an overall great place to eat.

After working in Natchez as a floating pharmacist for several years now, I always had a hard time finding a good local restaurant to dine. A colleague of mine recommended Roux 61. I had my doubts but when I had the char'd oysters, it was a radically delicious concoction of an amazing assortments of ingredients that made that dish stand out in a class of its own. It's truly the best cooked oysters I've had. I highly recommend the 22 oz bone in ribeye. The cut of the ribeye had a perfect blend of meat and fatty layers that just melts in your mouth. The waitress looked at me a made a bet that I couldn't finish all the food I ordered. Not only did I finished all the food, I ordered a dozen raw oysters on half shell. Needless to say, after dinner and after a long day at work, I went back to my room and laid down and slept for 12 hours. Needless to say, Roux 61 is a great place to dine with a local charm to it. I cannot comment on the alcohol because I didn't order any alcoholic beverages. Also the staff is great!! Jessica B was my waitress and she checked on me to make sure my dining experience was great. I would recommend Roux 61 to everyone because there are choices that would suit anyone's tastebuds and it's just an awesome place with a friendly staff.

Portions out of control huge! Somewhat heavy, very tasty Cajun Creole, Southern home cooking gut bomb food!!! You could easily share one entree between 4 people, everyone leaving had massive bags of Styrofoam containers crammed full! We tried the fried green tomatoes, crab cake appetizer, crawfish etouffee, coconut shrimp, sweet potato fries, seafood nachos and bread pudding, all amazingly wonderful! Service beyond 5 star (Jacobi)!! Decor and ambiance quite charming well worth the trip from St Francisville!

I can not believe that the Roux has allowed there cheese stix to go to the bad side. I ordered some for my better half and you can not believe how hollow, burnt, and thin they were. They used to have really good ones it was her favorite take home, and as a appetizer, but not anymore. These are horrible. Wish you could see the picture of them. I will be showing it to them if I ever go back.

We passed by this place while coming in to Natchez. We went on a Friday evening. First of off, let's say service could of been better. The waitress was sweet but clearly she needed a little more training. I would not have waited on a table of 14 ppl by myself. She mixed up the orders and forgot to even put in everyone's order. So some of the orders did not come out till late. Now on to the food. I had the Roux 61 Seafood platter. Everything was fried and season to perfection. My favorite was the fried soft shell crab and the oysters. YUMMY!! The platter also came with a bowl of gumbo. It was so flavorful I had to order another bowl. The seafood nacho was good too! The portion size was plentiful. I was so full I didn't even get to try their cheesecake. We will be coming back before our trip is over.

Sweet staff in the bar. Helped with gluten allergy. Even had dessert. Cold in bar area though to the point all guests were leaving to other areas. She said they were getting a new wine list. Hope so. Not good options. Overall good.

Great food, great customer service, with a great atmosphere! Best restaurant within a 100 mile radius. Order anything on the menu, you can't go wrong.
(5)Dawn F.
So good! A little out of town but worth the drive. I had the chargrilled oysters, yum! My friends had the shrimp corn chowder and fried soft shell crab. We had gator bites for an app, best gator bites!

Key words: Great food. Huge portions. We stumbled onto it while looking for something to eat along Hwy 61 from Baton Rouge. Between the 3 people in my party, we had the -house salad -grilled chicken sandwich -crawfish etouffee -catfish sandwich. All were great. It's not quite the quality you can get in a fancy restaurant, but pretty dang close, with portions double the size you would find elsewhere. A highlight was the house salad. Salads aren't normally worth mentioning, but this one was especially delicious, a perfect balance to the heartier dishes of the meal. Their Asian vinaigrette was a great dressing for it, too! Service during the first visit was impeccable. The waitress even turned down the restaurant's A/C for me when she saw I was cold! We couldn't stay away, so we came back for a second visit 3 days later. We had a different waitress, and the service was a shoddier this time (she forgot part of my order, got part of another's order wrong, and we had to ask another waitress for boxes and such). Despite this, the food kept us happy. Food mentions on this go-'round: the crab cake and hamburger. The crab cake's texture was too soft for his liking (apparently it is supposed to be crispy), but said it had a great taste and delicious crawfish sauce. The hamburger was also excellent. I ordered sweet potato fries as a side to my house salad, and was served with a heaping mound I took home with me. You won't leave hungry from this place! Final word: GO. Best discovery I've had on a road trip. (Later edited to take out some of the fluff. I can get carried away with my descriptions)

Researched Natchez for a visit we made for our anniversary. We got there about 5:00 and no wait. When we left it was so packed we had trouble getting out the door. A little hard to find, don't try your. GPS. Started with raw oysters, they were clean, fresh and perfect. I had the broiled oysters and they were better than Dragos in New Orleans. Had a specialty drink Reaux margarita, it was great. Salad was a little to much for a house, feta, mandarin oranges, nuts, but fresh. We both had the ribeye, it was perfect temp, maybe a little fatty, and under seasoned, but still good. Server was attentive, maybe a little rushed, but understandable since the line was out the door. Place was full of locals, and out of the center of town a bit, but worth the distance from the tourist traps

We arrived with the seating wait of a goof twenty minutes. They found a way of seating us almost immediately. Our waitor was helpful, informative, and creative. When we responded that we were not overly hungry, he suggested dish we could share and still have plenty to eat. After skittle discussion withy wife, we took his suggestion a sit turned out he was very correct in his suggestion. He dropped off our bill and made a very brief suggestion of their Southern Bread Pudding, but left before we could at anything to his suggestion. Very shortly, he returned with the the suggested Bread Pudding with 2 spoons.....no charge!!! For our beverages, we had just water. As our waitor brought us our bill, he also, brought each of idea plastic cup of water to go. We only wish we lived closer so we could come back again

For some reason my yelp directions through the maps app on an iPhone took me too a wrong location on two separate occasions. Instead of doin u turn like maps says, keep goin maybe a mile to a mile and a half. It will be on your left. U can't miss it. Wife ordered seafood potato which was really good. I got chargrilled oysters and they were good also. Oysters weren't consistent in size but good nonetheless. Really liked the gumbo, with its flavorful dark roux. And the "plantation cake" was very good. A little dry but still good. Not a fan of the name of the cake though. That's like sayin the "death camp pie" to a Jewish person or " auschwitz au-gratin to a Jewish person. They have a place called Mammy's Cupboard in Natchez too. I see it still has strong ties to its old slavery roots. Oh the "good ole days" huh. How we miss them.
(4)Teena F.
You need to fix your address and directions on yelp. The girl at the phone says they know it's wrong but it hasn't been fixed. It is an easy technical fix so someone needs to fix it do not make your customers to drive 10 minutes out-of-the-way because they will not come back.

This one is on my top two list for Natchez. It might be the best in the area. Catfish is fried to perfection. A basic cornmeal crust that is crispy and not greasy with the perfect seasonings. The crab cake was good but not great. They use a lot of filling and not as much crab chunks as I like. This place has top notch service and has a nice interior. This only disappointment was the dessert. But all in all its probably the best for seafood in the area.
(4)Sara H.
Portions are large and food is great! My favorite dish is The Delta Queen, pasta topped with lobster sauce and shrimp and blackened redfish. Yum!
(5)Farrah W.
Went there to celebrate my birthday from McComb, MS and was thoroughly pleased. The first thing we noticed was the portion size. Ordered the nachos as an appetizer and it was so good and HUGE. If there are any pasta lovers out there, please try the Roux 6 shrimp pasta. It was like heaven. My fiance ordered the roux 61 seafood platter and it was more than either of us could finish, although we wished we could because we didn't want to stop eating. Food is excellent. Our waitress was awesome as well. We'll most definitely come back.
(5)Cee L.
The food here is very good! I ordered the Seafood potato and was very pleased. Initially I thought everything was over priced; however, they give you A LOT of food! The customer service was very good as well! I'd definitely revisit!
(4)Marlin S.
Pretty good good, ample servings. Service is ok. Looks of restaurant is regular nothing to write home about. Prices is close to pricey.
(4)Jeff H.
The Shrimp and Alligator cheese cake was awesome. Po-boys and BLT are great. Good place to stop.. Not sure if its just me but its a little hit or miss.
(5)Suzanne S.
Really delicious. This is a newer place, large with a big drink menu and a huge selection of seafood. We had the stuffed portobello mushroom for an appetizer and it was fantastic. Then we had the seafood stuffed baked potato which was enormous and very good. Lots of shrimp, oysters, crawfish and crab. Ended the meal by splitting Mississippi mud pie. Highly recommend.
(4)David R.
Big portions, good service, solid food but nothing special. Crawfish etouffe was very good
(3)Katie W.
We stopped here on the way back to OH from FL. I had the California Chicken Sandwich and sweet potato fries. Doesn't sound exciting but it was SO GOOD. Portions you get are worth the prices. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had and their sweet tea is on point! Fantastic service and atmosphere. Got to enjoy LSU tigers football during my meal. I crave this place all the time & can't wait to go back. If you don't get the plantation cake, you're missing out big time! Don't pass this place up!
(5)Ryan L.
This Californian who is wheat-free and tries to avoid too many fats and sugars was like a fish out of water at Roux 61. I splurged, though, and had the filet mignon. It was so tender that it was like butter. Be prepared to wait in line to get in. I never could figure out why there's a sheriff posted right in the entry way (he was kind of cute, btw) and the crowd was quite local (I felt like I stood out like a sore thumb a bit). All in all, a good taste of local flavor.
(4)David B.
The hotel I stayed recommended this place. I sat at the bar, Mike was the bartender. He was very helpful with questions I had about various dishes. I had the Gumbo & the Blackened catfish sandwich.. Both were EXCELLENT. I've lived in New Orleans area, this was some of the best Gumbo I've eaten, & I've had many versions. The portions were large, Very well worth the visit & the $$. Next time i'm back in the area, I will definitely be back !!!!!
(5)James A.
One if the best experiences sitting at the bar I have ever had. Service and cocktails were phenomenal. You have to try the blueberry mojito! Bar food was good, will be going back on this trip and every other!
(5)Danny W.
Wow! Great food! Clean but rustic atmosphere. It gives the beautiful look and feel of a chain restaurant, but it is a one location, single owner. At first glance, the prices are shocking, but the portions and quality are top shelf. Cajun steak and seafood are definitely strong on the menu. And strong pricing. $20-36. Seafood/pasta around $20. I had the Roux signature burger, which was outstanding. But $10.95 was a little more than I am used to paying. That with $1.95 for a drink, and $4.95 for the Mississippi mud cake (see pic) for dessert out me at $19.10 after tax, before tip. Service was just adequate. It was immediately greeted, sat, and server greeted me and drink ordered. But I felt the same way I do when I was in the Army chow line. Hurry! But they weren't that busy. So I'll give it 4of 5 stars, and give them the benefit of the doubt that the server was just distracted for some reason.
(4)Nick U.
Seafood muffelatta was amazing. Quite possibly the best sweet potato fries I have ever had.
(5)Mavis S.
Service is hit or miss. The food is usually really good though. The California Chicken sandwich is my favorite. I also like the shrimp poboy. Actually everything I've tried has been good except for the alligator cheese cake, it isn't a dessert, which I think is an acquired taste. It was like seafood dip, but others in my party enjoyed it. I'll go back next time I am in Natchez.
(3)Nate A.
This is the place to go in Natchez! Always a great experience except for this one time where we ordered the gator bites to share between 4 of us, each person grabbed a piece and could not eat it due to being extremely tough and inedible! We sent it back and management would not take it off the bill! Beware the gator bites unless you enjoy chewing on leather!
(3)TwitMediaCritic X.
I'm being generous here with 3 stars. Yes, I'm spoiled living in New Orleans and having eaten all over the world... That being said, if you have a menu that says their steaks should be on everyone's last dinner menu, it shouldn't be an anemic thin and poorly prepared.
(3)Kelly W.
We ate there late on a Friday night and were seated right away. First I want to say the service was great! And our waitress (slim, cute black girl. Wish I could remember her name. It started with a T) was one of the best I have ever had! Now to the food. The Chargrilled Oysters were awesome! I have them at Drago's (and a few other places) in NOLA almost everytime we go and these are just as good!!! Our table had the shrimp po-boy, crab cake, and shrimp and corn soup. The 1/2 po-boy is almost big enough for 2 people (just add a small salad and/or cup of soup). The crab cake was just okay. It was more like stuffing for a stuffed crab. I like to be able to see the crab in my crab cakes and I couldn't see any crab in these. The shrimp and corn soup was also okay --- nothing to write home about. House salad was very good. And the Creme brûlée was perfect! The bread pudding was mushy and the sauce was too buttery. Over all I give it a 3.5 out of 5. I'll give it another try for sure!
(3)Lynne M.
Very good food, service and prices. Made an effort to be friendly and helpful. Jewel of a place. Red fish was amazing. Don't be scared of crowded parking lot. Large place and they can seat you quickly
(5)Chip W.
Just opened. Really not fair to judge them too harshly due to brand new waitstaff. Wait is long unless you go real early. The food we had was great but people around us were having issues, mostly with service. You must have the appetizers! My wife had a party out there for her managers and all were very impressed with all the different kinds available. Will definitely be back... as soon as business finishes getting Liquor license and it calms down.
(4)Tangi B.
Was there for lunch on a Saturday. We drove 80 miles to get there. Let me tell you, I would walk if I had to to get back there. That is by far the best meal I've ever had. Our table had the fried portabella mushrooms the alligator and shrimp cheesecake. Seafood platter and the grilled shrimp. I cannot imagine anything being any better. But I will find out. That will not be my last visit. That cheesecake (or as our waitress described it, coonass quiche) was unbelievable. It is not a cheesecake. It just resembles one. Walk drive or fly, just go. You won't regret it.
(5)Christopher W.
We came in around 3 p.m. and were nearly immediately seated in a table near a bar area. There weren't any other customers near us outside a few at the bar. The server was polite and checked on us often. I ordered a catfish fillet with fries cole slaw. The slaw was a little sweet for my taste, but was still good. The fish was amazing: tender, seasoned perfectly, and not very greasy. The atmosphere was inviting. It was an overall great experience and I definitely plan to return for another meal.
(5)Belle G.
The oysers on the half shell were really good and the soft-shelled crab reminded me of home (Louisiana). I was really impressed with the food and I will return.
(4)Mariko O.
Amazing food and incredible service. The shrimp and alligator cheesecake was to die for. Yum yum! Wish I lived closer to Natchez - although my waistline is grateful that don't! Thanks Roux 61!

One Fine Mississippi Night. On a recent business trip to Baton Rouge, I decided to meet an old friend here in Natchez for dinner on a Wednesday night. With its multitude of antebellum homes and horse ranches, Highway 61 is easily one of the most scenic drives in America, so the scenery and Willie Nelson put me in a really good mood by the time I got here. There was a bit of a line, so my friends and I got some wine from the bar, and went and sat on the porch to visit a little. The weather was perfect. Once seated, we started with some Gator Bites and Fried Dill Pickles. Nice light batter and tasty. I could've easily made this my dinner. But the blackened catfish was calling my name, and it was perfectly cooked, served with a crisp, fresh, Caesar salad. Other dishes around the table were burgers, Po'boys, char-grilled oysters, and of course - Gumbo. Made the Cajun way with a dark roux, the way it's supposed to be. Just a great Cajun meal, with some Mississippi hospitality thrown in by our very friendly and engaging waitress. It really shows through when someone enjoys what they do, and this young lady made our night a fun and pleasant one, from her constant smile to her southern drawl. Cigars and wine back on the porch ended what was one fine Mississippi night of friends and food. One that I look forward to repeating as soon as possible.
(4)Randall M.
Very disappointing. A lot of hype but it doesn't quite live up to it. We are there for lunch and there was no lunch menu also the lighting was so dark like romantic dinner dark. We had the fried pickles for an appetizer quite good except for the crazy amounts of salt. My mom ordered the blackened catfish sandwich. The bread was tasty but the catfish was way overlooked (almost mush) and I'm a fan of blackened fish and there was way too much blackening seasoning. I ordered the shrimp poboy. Tasty shrimp but only got 7 of them on a 11"-12" sandwich. Also they've never heard of Remoulade sauce even though that's a standard on seafood type poboys. Overall the service was poor at best. When my mom mentioned her san which wasn't good our service just said "oh" and walked away. In conclusion I won't recommend this place or go back.
(1)Bridgette H.
Best mixed drinks and appetizers I've had anywhere. The stuffed portabello mushrooms and alligator cheesecake are excellent. This place is very popular so there may be a wait but if you have the time it is worth it. If you don't have children with you just go sit in the bar area - no wait.
(4)Tommy B.
I'm still thinking about the 4 times I went to dinner at Roux 61 in Natchez Miss.the shrimp cajun pasta with the farm raised alligator appetizer.......Hmmmm yum yum !!!!!
(5)Rusti C.
Absolutely fantastic! We had the shrimp and gator cheesecake... Awesome! A must try. Very large portions. The steaks are seasoned and cooked perfectly. Melt in your mouth good! Had the Mississippi Mud for desert. Yum! Everyone on staff was very friendly, Mandy was a fantastic server. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for excellent local food combined with your traditional American cuisine. Will definitely come back.
