Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Best Mexican restaurant in Meridian. The food is always good. I would recommend the fajita nachos, always good. Best salsa and you can ask for spicy if you really like it hot.

This place is located not far off of I-20 and don't worry about the sceevy-looking industrial neighborhood; it cleans up right when you arrive. A large restaurant with a bright, open design, San Marcos seems to be popular with locals and had a brief wait at noon on a Sunday. Decor and atmosphere are cool with lots to engage the eye. Chips were warm but tasted kind of stale; salsa was tastily serviceable. The house margarita is decent (and what more do you need? Long as it's not terrible, amirite?) I ordered Chusma - grilled steak or chicken served over rice with pico de gallo and topped with cheese sauce. $8.50. While tasty, nothing screamed out "flavor!" or "especial!" or even "I'm curiously engaged!" The chicken was bland with only the cheese sauce and pico providing any respite from the meh-ness of it all. But, it wasn't bad, just sayin'. It could've been more. Service was attentive and speedy; a saving grace. I'd come back, but with a handful of other Mexican eateries in town, this place will probably get shifted to the bottom of the list. No, not probably. Definitely.

This may be as good as it gets for Mexican food in a ten mile radius! It was all so tasty! We started off with guacamole and chips. This was some real guac! None of that "out of a can" or mayo painted green type stuff, it was authentic! There were six of us around the table. We each ordered entrees and soft drinks. The bill was only $80. ONLY! This is an amazing price for such amazing food! The service was impeccable and none of the orders were messed up. If we're back in this part of the country, we'll have to stop by. My mouth is watering just writing this review.

This is mine and my fiance's favorite Mexican place! I always get the steak fajitas! We go here at least once a week!

Steak Fajita was super with plenty if tasty steak. The sides were fresh and tasty. Plenty of salsa and great service. Very tasteful decor and super clean. Great value for the price.

First, I'm a guest to Meridian, MS and I understand, but I need to honestly and truthfully say what I need to. I'm being completely honest! So please do not be mad at me. If you disagree that's okay, but read this in it's entirety, then go try what I'm about to tell you and judge for your self. I'm Mexican. My entire family is Mexican. So please believe me when I say that the comments below must not be by Mexican people and that's okay. Here are my thoughts: The taste of this establishment is that of Tex-Mex style cooking. Yes,it's Mexican, but even then... It tastes like they went to Wal-Mart, bought all of the stock of Juanita's canned Mexican cuisine, and reheated it and sold it. The enchilada sauce is the best example I can attest to... Tastes like straight out of the can! Second, when I saw that tacos accompany most meals, I was excited!!! I get my order and by appearance it looks okay (the items on the plate, not the tacos). So I first notice that the "taco" is on a hard shell (immediate signal to disappointment), then I examine the contents of said "taco"; WTF??? Ground beef??? What is this Taco Bell??? A real Mexican TACO is Carne Asada, cilantro, onions, and maybe beans. Ground Beef?!!! Fail. I asked for hot sauce and I don't know if they have it or not; I never got it. The house salsa, to me, tasted like watered down Old El Paso canned salsa. The only thing I did enjoy was the rice and beans. But I had to eat them with a fork because they failed to provide the Corn tortillas I asked for 3 times. Whatever. The beer was good. The good thing I can say they provide that's worth while is the 2-for-1 deal on Tuesdays (I think Tuesdays). Again, if you enjoy the enchiladas, please got to Wal-Mart and buy any canned Mole (enchilada sauce), warm it up and taste. Go Now! I understand this place is supposed to be the best, but if you get a chance, make a trip to the west coast, pick a Roberto's or Cotijas Taco shop and see what I'm talking about. I don't mean to ruin this place for anyone, I just wanted to make you aware that making Mexican food is (1) extremely easy to make (2) better if you make it at home, and (3) Mexicans don't use ground beef for Tacos. Ever. (4) Tapatio, Valentina, or Cholula hot sauce is a must. Service was good though. Food to me, is not authentic.

We haven't been here in many years. Loved it. Service is great. Beer is ice cold. Food is great. We realize now why we missed this place so much. We live on the opposite side of town and never made it to this side of town for quite some time. Now we realize why we missed it.

We wanted Mexican as we were passing through Meridian so got yelp out and found this little gem. YUMMY! the food was good, chips were about average and the Salsa was not anything to write home about. The decor was nice, no draft beers. The wait staff was nice and attentive. Next time I am in the area I will visit here again. Someone had posted a review saying they were passing through Alabama and swung in here to eat. Sorry dude this is MIssissippi not Alabama.

Best Mexican food I have had since I left San Antonio Texas. I hope the folks in meridian can appreciate what they have. The tortillas. The hotter sauce. The beef and chicken fajita plate was amazing. Great guacamole. And the margaritas were very tasty. All was well spiced and great.

I was passing through Alabama for the first time and needed a place to eat. It was not very far off the exit ramp so we decided to try. I have to say, this place was so delicious. I ordered the steak burrito and it came with queso sauce on top. Very, very good. Quality pieces of steak unlike so many places where you get bits of fatty, tough meat. I loved it. Their rice was very good too and was very moist and delicious. Our meals came with wither queso inside or on top the dishes, and the best part was it didn't solidify during the meal - nothing worse than getting a meal and having the cheese liquid cheese dry up on you midway. I don't know what they do to keep it from getting solid. It def. added a whole juicy level to the experience. Mmmm Mmm! I didn't care for the salsa too much (average), but everything else was excellent. Great, inexpensive prices too.

Best Mexican food in Meridian, at great prices and with super fast and friendly service. Chicken quesadillas are unbeatable.

Meridian has several Mexican restaurants - most are good, some are sub-par, but my favorite is San Marcos. Really good authentic Mexican food served very quickly by real Mexicans. I usually get the San Marcos Salad, which is LOADED with chicken or beef and served in a large fried tortilla shell. I highly recommend San Marcos.

I try to be really fair but I'm sorry, this is NOT authentic Mexican food. Not even close. Maybe locally it is, but I'm from California, aboard Meridian NAS, and I've had authentic Mexican food in Mexico. I've had TexMex in Dallas and what I was served wasn't close to anything I've had before. The building is nice. It was clean. The service was not friendly, but that is normal for this area. But they acted as if it was a chore to serve me. Looked around and most of the staff looked unhappy which can transfer to its customers. The chips were good; thin and crispy. Salsa was just OK. Very mild and runny. If you prefer chucky salsa like I do, then you know what I mean. Ordered a Combination E (Taco, Chile Relleno, Beef Enchilada, rice and refried beans) for $8. Food was hot but not good. Everything seemed to be extremely salty. Taco was really small and mostly ground beef with some lettuce and 3 chunks of tomato. The beef enchilada was ground beef with refried beans and the sauce wasn't good at all. The chili relleno wasn't stuffed with cheese but refried beans with cheese on top along with some kind of sauce that wasn't very good either. If you are used to Chevy's, El Torito's, On The Boarder then don't go here. You would be better served with Taco Bell or Del Taco. Maybe the local's like it but for me it was a huge disappointment. Especially since it was about a 30 minute drive from NAS. I wouldn't trust the other review, he misspelled Mexican. Hope this helps.
