Venerable-respected-distinguished. A chain can't claim these qualities. These words aptly describe Ole (not old--venerable) Farm Beef house. Their logo is as original as its own house marinade and stands as a beacon, albeit death-knell, to its corporate competitors. The implications from the restaurant's name is apparent. We'll first talk about the steak, then others, and finally we'll visit the scene. Pull in- you will smell that wonderful grey-steak aroma bellowing from within. Walk in- you see the gentlemen cutting and grilling finely marbled steaks over open flames (they also walk the walk). Walk through- you notice two conspicuous pots and a long salad bar. Sit down- you are thrilled to see red table-cloth, real glasses, but with a server who makes you feel as at home as if it were your grandmother's. Look around and absorb the charm and sense of belonging you will feel. Meanwhile, back to the conspicuous pots. Oh, but before you get there- pay close attention to the expertly played, maintained, and fresh salad bar (self-serve). At any rate, have you ever had cheese soup or clam chowder? The answer is NO you have not until you try this. Chowder is not common for this region of the state but would make South Mississippians blush and oyster bars in Gulfport green with envy. We will not attempt to describe the cheese soup here- words can not capture it. Oh yes, the steak- allow me to be rhetorical as you follow along. Would such an underdog business compete with so many national franchises if it was not a great (not good- not "ok it will do"- but a "call the neighbors and friends, this is one for the record books" GREAT)?? Show me a better steak house in East Mississippi and I'll show you (and be glad to sell you rights to) Egyptian Pyramids in lower Alabama. I may even sell you my map to Jimmy Hoffa's grave if your still interested.

If you've ever watched Restaurant Impossible, this is the "before". Not sure how this place is still open or why it seems to be any sort of popular. The atmosphere is that of a retirement home cafeteria in 1970's Fort Lauderdale. The steaks can only be described as pathetic. They come in two temperatures, well or med-well. The salad bar.... oh the salad bar, words cannot describe the pitifulness. No soda fountain, so you pay by the can, how classy. If I had been able to smother my disappointment in alcohol it may have been a saving grace, but they have none. Moral of the story, when in Meridian, go to Outback or grill for yourself.

Yummy ribeye. Mom says the catfish tastes like it is fresh out of the river, not farm raised. Yummy. Great soup-salad bar. Would recommend.

Yes the decor is dated, but that is part of the charm. I'm pretty sure it is just a ribeye steak marinated and cooked in dale sauce. It reminds me of the old fashioned steakhouses that my parents and grandparents would take me to as a child. There is a open view of the grill in the lobby. I'm a fan of restaurants that are not afraid to show their kitchen, so that's a plus for me. They are priced within the same ranges as the chain restaurant steaks, often cheaper. The taste reminds me of what a backyard grill. It is just somewhere you have to eat at least once if you live in Meridian or will be on an extended stay. Salad bar and soup are included and are good. It's not a 5 star restaurant, I would give a 4 if they would actually get a soda machine and drop the cans. Also, abandoning the fine dining set up and embracing a rustic steak house vibe that would go along nicely with their name would net more positive reviews. A drink menu would be a nice touch also.

Being new to Meridian this restaurant came with rave reviews from the locals. I truly enjoy a good steak and thought this would be the place as it came with so much fanfare. They are only open for dinner service. My dining companion and I were quite hungry and very excited (the chain steak restaurants here are less than sub par but came with rave reviews as well). The restaurant was 15 minutes late opening which could've been forgiven had the food been a little better. The menu is very limited. Fried seafood, grilled chicken and ribeye/New York strip were the protein offerings. Not a fan of ribeye, I asked about a shrimp and fish combination to which the seafood platter was suggested. Not a fan of most things on the platter (no substitutions) I went with a ribeye anyway. With all entrées a beautiful and incredibly fresh salad bar came along. Dressings were not made in house but the freshness of the bar countered that. The selection was good as well. MWH (my dining companion) got the chicken and I found that to be flavorless and overcooked. Tea is unlimited refills, soft drinks are served as a can with a glass of ice. After being there for about 30 minutes we realized we were the youngest people there. We are both 40. It was clear to me that this establishment has survived on its "regulars" and has no interest in attracting or maintaining the business of younger prospects. The interior has an older musky smell to it; almost like your grandmother's and a decor motif to go with it. A LOT of mauve. The server was just that, nothing memorable but was quite chummy with the regulars. For what we paid, definitely not worth the money. We could have spent half of that and eaten better at home. The best thing I am taking from this experience is the fresh and extinct salad bar. The menu wants to be fine or higher end dining but the presentation, service, and decor show otherwise.

Wasn't what I expected. The hostess was great, waitress service wasn't, reaching over plates, throwing straws and wasn't very pleasant. The salad and soup was ok...the steak grilled perfect but not seasoned at all...i think this one time visit is enough for me....

Traveled to Meridian on business and was glad to find this local restaurant. Friendly service, good salad bar and excellent rib eye steaks make this a great place to eat.

Excellent on what they specialize in, beef. Best chopped steak my wife has ever had. I had already eaten a hamburger steak at lunch, so I ordered the grilled chicken... Big mistake. Small portion and a little tough. We do wish there was a low carb vegetable option for those of us on low carb diet. Salad bar is mediocre, soups were excellent.

Great family restaurant, locally-owned. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, great salad/soup bar, and reasonably-priced steak dinner. Forgo their seafood offerings -- for that, go across the street to Sea Food Express -- but if you're hankering for good, charcoal-grilled steaks, this is the place my family and I go to. Roomy party room, good place for a gathering up to 30 people. Closed on Mondays. BYOB.
