Open door windows light this beautiful open space that goes well with the rest of the historical plantation-style Fairview Inn. Sometimes a grand piano playing in the Inn's entry hall lends a soothing ambiance. Service has always been on point and very courteous, although I've never been when it's very crowded. It's a seasonal menu so it's changing, but I always love their vegetarian options. They have great, fresh, local products they use to make very good appetizers (flatbread vegetarian), dips (edamame hummus last time), soups, salads (baby spinach and wild arugula ones are delicious), sides (grits, squash, Farro, snap peas) They also have a vegetarian entrée. Meat-eater friend of mine said their duck is the best. Creme brûlée is my favorite dessert of all time and they know how to do it right here. There seasonal fruit cobblers are also delicious. Cocktails are great here too. Good wine selection. The cocktails change and have traditional options. Check out The Library bar and lounge next to the restaurant, the cocktails are the best and you can get smaller servings of certain items from the restaurant. Amazing atmosphere inside is a library and outside is a traditional southern porch plus a side patio under an enormous magnolia tree.

Thoroughly enjoyed dining here tonight. Started off with the Steamed Mussels, then moved on to the Grilled Rabbit Apple Sausage and finished off with the Grilled Rack of Lamb. I was impressed from the time I walked into the restaurant til the time I left. Will definitely be coming back on my next trip to Jackson.

My friends and I love this place! Trivia on Tuesday nights at 7 pm is the place to be. The bread pudding is out of this world. Sunday brunch is very rich and filling, but it is fun especially if you have friends or family in from out of town and you want to show off the Southern experience.

The new and improved 1908 has great things going on. Chef Gary Hawkins is simply amazing. His talent coupled with the new bar's craft cocktails and ever changing wine and beer selection is nothing short of genius. Do yourself a favor, have a seat at the bar or reserve a table to take advantage of this hidden jem.

I am incredibly impressed with this place. My husband and I shared the crab claws as an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked with garlic and butter. I chose the redfish with a sweet potato crust over Delta grits with a honey mustard sauce - unbelievable. Perfect in every way and a very reasonable serving. My husband had the crab cakes with Sriracha honey and guacamole and it was delicious. All the flavors melded together perfectly. And the prices are reasonable - entrees averaged $15. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone I know and come back often.

1908 Provisions, located in the historic Fairview Inn, is one of my favorite date night stops. Not only is the food selection diverse and flavorful, but the atmosphere is great to-boot. I can't say I've had the best, or the worst service from the staff there, but the management and staff are generally very pleasant and thankful you've stopped by. The food has never disappointed, and you can always close the night in the Library Lounge, adjacent to the restaurant. Favorites include: Sunday Brunch Buffet, the avocado toast (small and light, but delicious), and any of their specials offered that night.

The Fairview Inn, located in Belhaven, is definitely one of the greatest places to hang out in Jackson. Whether you're grabbing drinks at the Library Lounge or just taking in the views from their spacious front porch, this place is a must-visit for both residents and out-of-town visitors alike. Now, with the introduction of 1908 Provisions, I have even more reason to visit one of my favorite buildings in town. I was a big fan of Sophia's, the restaurant that was here before 1908, so I was understandably nervous to hear it was being replaced. After dining at 1908 Provisions just once, though, all my worries were assuaged. The menu is what you would describe as "fancy southern," by which I mean there's lots of fried stuff but you don't have to feel guilty about it because they serve it with cloth napkins. Everything is suuuuper delicious. I've been for lunch, dinner, and brunch. For lunch, it's a great place to go for a business lunch or bring an out of town guest. For dinner, it's a fantastic date spot. And for brunch, it's perfect for groups. Brunch is served buffet style and there's an omelette station which I love. Located inside a gorgeous old inn in the heart of Belhaven, the setting really can't be beat. This is a place everyone should check out!

One of my favorite places to do Sunday Brunch. Set in the Fairview Inn, this upscale restaurant is a perfect place to enjoy a Sunday Brunch.

How have I not known about how fabulous this place and all the cocktail rooms are?! My father, sister and I took a quick peek at all the lovely rooms downstairs including a charming library complete with a full bar and several tables. There was a sunroom with two long tables for community seating. The restaurant is upscale and has a contemporary feel with a long bar area. It almost seemed like a resort to me! They have an outdoor patio with several tables as well several larger rooms for entertaining. The inn has been a historical landmark of Jackson for many years. It was such a treat to see the recent renovations. Each room has a different feel. Since I'm originally from Jackson and have family here, I haven't had a need to stay in the rooms. However, I will be introducing my in laws to the inn when they come to town. Finally, the food at 1908 was delicious! We split several items including the crab cakes with jicama slaw, kale salad, butcher's cut (beef tenderloin) and the red fish with a side of grits. The menu changes every week but there are several staple items that remain on the menu like the red fish. The menu is inspired by California cuisine yet keeping in line with southern flavors. Service was excellent. I can't wait to come back to 1908 and spend more time there. I highly recommend a trip over to the cocktail lounge and 1908 - a good time guaranteed at the fairview!

This is one of the best places to dine in the Jackson area. The new menu is excellent.

I have only been to the Sunday brunch buffet and not the normal order-from-the-menu restaurant, so this review is incomplete. But regarding the Sunday brunch buffet, the meal was outstanding. It has been consistently excellent since I first went when it was called Sophia's. It is a small, all-you-can-eat buffet - only about 2 dozen items on 4 tables - but each and every item is delicious. It starts at 11 so the breakfast items are limited, just made-to-order omelets and waffles. The cold items include fruit, salad, pasta salad, smoked salmon and shrimp. You must try the salmon with cocktail sauce (it's to die for). The main lunch table has about a dozen items of various meats and vegetables. There is a dessert table with about 6 different items. Unlike some other buffets I find 1908's value outstanding because it's only $20 and each and every item is worth eating.

This was the worst service I've had in years, and some of the most disappointing food. Our server ignored us, and we had to send back all four of our entrees. Two were under-cooked and two were cold. The service was slow, and our server had little knowledge of the menu or desire to make our visit pleasant or memorable. Most disappointing of all, when we let the management (the owner, Peter) know that we were unhappy with our meal and service, he neither apologize nor attempted to improve what was left of our meal. The hosted did comp us for one round of drinks in the end, but what we really would have preferred was an apology or some actual concern about our experience. In sum: We had high hopes for the new 1908 Provisions, but sadly, we will definitely not be back.

Overall good...but my husband found a bug in his spinach. We are both vegetarian and love to eat fresh local produce! So we understand that spinach grows in the dirt and has bugs in it. We did not want to make a big deal, so he just removed the bug and did not finish the spinach. I would suggest that the kitchen institute a more strict quality control to make sure this doesn't happen! I would also suggest that the servers learn a little more about the drink menu. We asked two of the staff what they recommended, and both said, "I don't drink, sorry." I would suggest that even if they do not drink that they just learn a little about the menu and be able to recommend drinks based on customers' tastes. Other than that, the food was delicious, and my husband and I had a lovely date night just enjoying the atmosphere at the Fairview Inn.
