Took the family to Sweet Peppers Deli for lunch today. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Kids Eat Free On Sundays, so not only did I get a fresh, delicious meal with the family, but I saved s few bucks in the process.

I'm giving 2 stars because while my sandwich was ok, my soup and my child's pepperoni flatbread and husband's meal were not good. Our chips and rotel were tasty, but the chips at the bottom of the stack were remnants from the bottom of the bag. My son's pepperoni flatbread tasted like cardboard and the bread was soggy. My roast beef sandwich was ok, but Newk's is MUCH better! Luckily kids eat free on Sunday's with purchase of an adult meal, so that's one plus!

I really enjoy this restaurant. They have good sandwiches and good service. The place is always clean and they have nice big televisions. I really love their chips and rotel and am obsessed with their chocolate eruption which is a chocolate cheesecake. (Sometimes my husband and I go just for dessert!) On Sundays, kids eat free... 2 per adult!

So far, about 2/3 of my online orders had something wrong after I picked them up. One time, I drove there only to find out they never even started/noticed my order. Very irritating, I usually try to avoid getting food from Peppers now.

The food was good. I had an appetizer of Chips with Rotel Cheese Dip and Jalapenos, a Half of a Pepper & Beef Sandwich with Crawfish Bisque and a Sweet Tea. The Sweet Tea was OK, but not as good as McAlester's, not as sweet. The Chips and Cheese Dip was good, the dip needed a little bit more spice to it but I guess that is why they had Jalapenos on the side. The sandwich was ok, again not as good as a McAlester's sandwich but it was good, the Crawfish Bisque was amazing, it was the best thing I had there. I will go back again, I have found the last place in Mississippi with Jones Soda. I didn't have one this time, but that is the reason for going back.

The layout of this place is pretty welcoming and there's even a drive-through, which immediately puts this place above other deli-type places in the area in my book. But the truth is the food is never as good as I imagine it to be - something is always off with the flavor. It's good to have variety here in Gulfport, but I long for a Togo's or a Panera Bread or a Quizno's (there are already plenty of Subways down here)

UPDATE! Stopped in the other night for dinner. My lady had a california sub something-or-other and I had the Turkey Avacado. Both out sandwhiches SUCKED. Soggy bread, little cuts of avacado, weak, sad looking little pickles...Now, we did try the soup which was good: Baked potato and the chicken and mushroom. The service was slow....we stood up at the register for about five minutes, and it took almost 20 to get our food...and they weren't busy! This place ain't cheap, so to get sub par food like that, kinda makes you not wanna go back. I doubt we will. Can you say THIS PLACE WENT DOWNHILL??? I knew ya could, neighbor.

Horrible service. This place has a host of MO-RON's working for them. I went on a day in which business was slow. Basically, I stood in front of the register waiting to order for a little longer than I should have. No greeting, I had to initiate the greeting. But whatev. Ordering my sandwich, was like driving in Seattle traffic during rush hour in the rain. The sandwich was mediocre, not impressed. I doubt that you ever find me in this place ever again.

While I can't relive my college years, I can sure get 95% of Bulldog Deli at Sweet Peppers. The only thing missing is the concert posters for the 1980's. The kids like it, and the deserts are enough for two. Sweet Tea is a staple...

Big Ups to Heather P for letting me know that Sweet peppers was open. Thanks to her review I was able to go to their website and check out their menu and use the the pick up window service. Looking in the window I could see that the decor was very warm and inviting and they had plenty of staff ready and waiting to take orders. SPD looks like a chic version of McAlisters which to me is over rated. With a humongous parking lot I can see this place becoming a lunch hot spot, now that most of the mom and pops shops have closed down. Following Heather P's recommendation I had a Smoked Cheddar Melt (**** stars). The wheat hogie was extremely soft and warm, allowing the taste of the sandwich to come out. Piled with smoked ham and a melted cheese sauce (I cant wait to see if they have a Philly Cheesesteak because this cheese sauce would be perfect!!!) The sandwich was a tad small for my taste but the side of potato salad (**** stars). The Potato salad was almost as good as Dale's Deli. I also picked up a "Cuban" (**** stars) for a Cuban while he said that it was too "rich" and not what he was used to in Miami. He didn't want people going down to South Florida expecting this quality of sandwich. While I was tempted to order a Potato, I decided against it when I saw one being packaged from the side window. EXTREMELY HUGE!!! Meal for Two!!! Now for the down side, I don't like that I have to make a U-turn on Hwy 49 to get here. Especially with 5:00 traffic its kind of nerve racking to pull in here and then have to head South and make another U-turn and Head North to get home!!! Too many U-turns for me. All in all a great place to pick up a sandwich or stuffed baked potato!!!

I just ate there for the first time and I had the corned beef on tomato bread and it was excellent. The bread was the greatest I have had, it really made the sandwich. Others in my party had a huge potato and also a large chili cheese macho. They also had some pretty decent salsa and rotel

Dropped in to have a quick light dinner and tried the BBQ shrimp crisp wrap. I'm not positive why they indicate the shrimp have anything to do with BBQ other than possibly being grilled. The wrap was meh (see said expression's definition here -http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=meh). Sweet Peppers may have more to offer on the menu, but honestly I had to look for a while to find something that truly stuck out as something I couldn't find for less - and possibly better - somewhere else. The highlight of the visit was the service which was spot-on and friendly. Unless I'm just out of options and happen to be in this area again I probably won't visit again.

Sweet Peppers JUST opened and I'm glad to say it was well worth the wait. As I drive by this area several times a week and I have been waiting to see the open sign. I have to say it's about time we have something like this out in this area. Just a cool place to hang out and grab some lunch. We started out with the Chips N' Rotel. The cheese sauce was good but the chips to me were just a bit to thick and sort of over powered the cheese sauce. For the lunch part I ordered a Reg Smoked Cheddar Melt. It came on an incredibly soft hogie roll I guess it was. Because I'm from the north I want to say Grinder roll but not sure how many would understand that. Lots of smoked ham, just enough bacon and a very nice amount of smoked melted cheese. Really was melt in your mouth. My SO chose to get the Sicilian Panini. He also enjoyed his meal. I did give his a try but I'm not much into that sort of food so the Panini bread was just right. Slighly crunchy on the outside, softer on the center. Also had the side of Potato salad which had a wonderful smokey sort of flavor. LOVED IT We finished off with some cookies which also were very good. Headed back to day to give the Potatoes a try. It's what I wanted to begin with but figured I should try a sandwich there first just to get a real feel for the place. YES we will be going back quite often. Prices are good, food is excellent and service is friendly and fast. Oh and they have a drive through pick up window as well. Just wanted to add in that if you order one of those potatoes be prepared!! it's HUGE. no joke here, it's the biggest potato I have ever seen. And while your there take a peak at the Cheesecakes. drool!
