We ordered take out. Waited about 15 minutes. Had the dynamite roll and spicy tuna roll. Excellent. I could tell they take pride in their sushi.

WOW... so amazed to find this place in Gulfport. Amazing presentation and great service. Positives Great happy hour meal deals Good selection Great service Nice decorations Good menu selection Great food presentation, like little art projects Negatives Not much... Listen if your are expecting, LA, New York or Japan quality this isn't it. But it is amazing quality for the Gulfport area. Probably one of the few nice restaurants there. I also order 5 dishes just for myself and maybe spent $35, I mean I was a total pig... and no big dent in my wallet. Note: this review is a little late. I went before I deployed and I haven't been able to get consistent access to Yelp to finish this and a whole bunch of other reviews from a few months ago.

Maybe the best sushi I've had! Super rolls will fill you up guaranteed. I ordered the bomb bomb which was the perfect mix of my favorites! Spicy tuna, avocado, crab, and cucumbers! My husband ordered the teriyaki beef and egg drop soup. The best egg drop soup I have ever had. Has small crunchy wonton chips in it that give it the perfect texture. I have a friend visintin soon and this is the first place I will take her to eat out! The atmosphere would be great for a date too.

This place is fantastic! Tons of great sushi at a decent price. My wife and I come here and love the Bomb Bombs and Phoenix Tail. Samurai also offers a military discount which is definitely a plus. I like that it's dim lit and the staff is pretty good. In the many trips for dinner or lunch, I've never had anything to complain about.

A non-descript exterior belies the awesome creations that lie within. I've never seen a more expansive or well crafted specialty roll menu, and everything I ate was delicious. Kristen, my server, was a treat, and the chefs laughed as I watched them make other orders and my own, adding a little flair to each prep step for my benefit. Artistry is the highest compliment I can pay them, besides my hard earned dollars, which I'll gladly do from now own.

This place is OK. It's not the best or worst Japanese food I've had on the Gulf Coast. The price is right. For great sushi, I'd recommend Fat Sumo on Highway 49 north in Gulfport. For great egg drop soup, Koi Sushi (a hibachi place) on Highway 49 in Gulfport, across from Walmart, is the place to go.

One of the best sushi places around! You definitely get what you pay for here. The rolls are good size and not that little stuff from fat sumo.

I'm not sure how this place received 4~5 star ratings..but I noticed a lot of those reviews were from 1~2 years ago, so maybe it's gone downhill since then. This place was on my list to try since I've seen it traveling up and down hwy 49, and I haven't tried any sushi in Gulfport (only at Chef Scott's in nearby Ocean Springs). I was entirely disappointed with the sushi. While the servers were prompt and attentive, the sushi portions were grossly oversized, definitely not Japanese portions. I ordered a cucumber roll, tuna sashimi, miso soup, coconut shrimp, and hot tea. The miso soup and hot tea were fine. The coconut shrimp 'appetizer' was more like a full meal, but the flavor seemed ok. The rolls were just below mediocre. The cucumber roll was bland and uninviting. And, oh wait! Didn't I order tuna sashimi, not sushi?? I like my tuna without rice, and I made it clear to the waiter to no apparent success in the end. I felt like the sushi chefs had placed entire strips of tuna filet on top of a white mountain of rice. The tuna did not have the fresh, watery flavor that I am used to from other sushi bars in the area. It tasted like it had been sitting at the bar for a few days. The moral of the dining story is this. Size and stylish furnishings do not make up for food quality.

For the proportion of its sushi rolls and price, Samurai is a good choice. Good happy hour--and all I can say is the Phoenix Tail has to be one of the best rolls I've eaten, I would go here just for the roll. I had a friend try the uni shooter, quite an interesting dish, shot, whatever. We asked the sushi chef how we go about eating this, he didn't know how. But we made our daring attempt anyway. I'm not a fan of vinegar and saki, but I thought the uni was okay, I'm still not use to the texture, I'm sure other can relate if they've tried it. It's like bland pudding from the sea. I like the generous portion. Usually in other sushi place, you get an overpriced roll that leaves you unsatisfied. Two 22oz of Sapporo, nigori sake, two sushi rolls and I'm good. But that would cost you over $30 (if you order the specialty rolls). Sushi roll price range from $5 to $14. But sushi like this makes me nostalgic for the all you can eat sushi restaurants in CA, mmm, sushi.

I would give this 4 stars considering the area but overall I've been to better, especially for the price. However, for Biloxi/Gulfport, this place is pretty good. The service was good as well was the quality of food. The price was a little high on some items but once again, we are in the deep south. I had the Yellow Tail Tartar, which was delicious, and the Sushi/Sashimi Combo. Overall a great meal and I was unable to finish it all. I would definitely come back here again.

Very nice setting great food/sushi. My favorite is the pepper tuna sashimi. Only thing that could make it a little better is if they had more options for the non sushi fans/kids I would be able to take more people there with me if they did.

Service was great and food was pretty good. I am from California where we have some pretty great sushi and some of the rolls are comparable- like the one Huge roll wrapped in cucumber that's crazy delicious but the spicy tuna fell short and tasted fishy. I liked their sauce sampler, it was a cool touch :) I will be coming back but a little more educated on what to order.

Disclaimer: No sushi snob here, I just love it and could have it every day. Back when I lived over in GPT, Samurai tied with Sakura as my favorite sushi restaurant(s). However, I will have to take off one star (though would only take half a star if that was available) for the service. The young staff gets a little distracted sometimes and you don't always feel catered-to and sometimes forgotten about. But if you are looking for fabulous sushi with the feel of contemporary decor on the MS Gulf Coast, find your way down to the intersection of Pass Road and HWY 49. Yes, the location is a bit odd and not near all the other stuff (see: Crossroads).... but drive down HWY 49 anyway. The menu is lengthy, but not overwhelming. They do have quite the selection of completely fried rolls, which I would recommend limiting yourself to one or two of those, as they are quite heavy. As far as the appetizers, my favorite is the gyoza. Their dipping sauce to go with it is phenomenal. Our favorite roll was the Rock & Roll. Ryan (if he's still there) was the best server. Ask him to bring you the multi-colored dipping sauces to go with your rolls. The booths do feel cozy, but they were built straight-backed, so they eventually become very uncomfortable. Try to opt for a regular table if you can. The bathrooms were very clean and beautifully designed. Some people do actually put effort into such details. Sushi is already expensive, but I don't think they are exceptionally overpriced. If I remember correctly, you can order online and go pick it up. I have eaten here a hundred times with my Husband (then boyfriend), and even a business lunch or two. In short, Pros: Tasty sushi, cool decor, decent menu, good prices Cons: Service sometimes not that great, uncomfortable booths, weird location

I used to LOVE the place that used to be here (i can't recall the name) but this place was just OK. HUGE menu, prices seemed a little high and quality meh. I think i offended some friends by me saying i didn't like this place. Then again, i think one of those friends got sick the next time i saw him. You've been warned.

My favorite sushi spot here on the coast for me. The only sushi place that has yummy sushi, made me full, and the tab wasn't like 60 freakin' dollars like other places. I ordered seaweed salad (which can serve up to 4 people!) 3 spicy tuna rolls, 2 salmon rolls, 2 miso soups, and 2 sweet teas. They were all yummy :) and only under 35 bucks. I even took a to-go box with me! and also, if you think it's oversized, you could always say "less rice"!

So I was yelping one day for a good sushi restaurant to try and Samurai faired better than others in the review category so we said, "what the hey, why not!" When we walked through the door we were greeted and sat at a table immediately (I think we beat the rush because about a half an hour later it really picked up) Our waiter Ryan was very cool and very sweet. He was the epitome of southern hospitality IMO. He gave us a lot of insight as to what his favorites were [as this was what I had asked him] and they sounded quite delicious so we selected a couple of his picks and a few of our own. I also got a few nigiri pieces as well as a couple of appetizers and the chicken yaki udon for my son. We received our appetizers and my son's udon within minutes of our order. My son dove right into the piping hot udon and said "yum yum" until he ate his fill. It was pretty good. It wasn't overly seasoned or salted, it was just right. We ordered the Seafood salad and the Sashimi Salad and my husband and I agreed that the Seafood salad was way better than the Sashimi salad. We thought that the dressing for the Sashimi salad was a little too heavy (being that the base of it is made with Japanese mayo). However both salads were VERY fresh and the fish just melted in your mouth. We were very impressed, there was no fishy after taste, it was clean through and through. Shortly after we devoured our appetizers our rolls and nigiri pieces came. *OMG* I should have gotten sashimi instead! I won't complain about the amount of fish you get on top, but the rice itself was a bit much. I actually ended up eating only the fish and left the rice. The rolls we ordered were: Blue Crab Naruto Mississippi Phoenix Roll Samurai Roll The Phoenix Roll was one we didn't care for, mostly because it was overly greasy. it was supposed to be "lightly fried" but the oil absorbed into the sushi and it was a slopping mess. We enjoyed all the other rolls but the Blue Crab Naruto is our favorite. It was soooo good! You get a really good amount of lump blue crap in the roll which totally caught me by surprise. My one complaint in the roll department would be that they went a little over board in regards to the dressing of the rolls. Each roll came with it's own sauce, but they really piled it on there so it was a bit overwhelming. It takes away from the taste of the actual roll itself. I would recommend that if you order rolls ask them to go light on the sauce or get it on the side so you can add as much or as little as you'd like. Overall we (even my son) really enjoyed this place. We loved the service, the decor and ambiance was great and the food was good. It would have been great if there wasn't sauce overkill on the rolls and my nigiri didn't have an ocean of rice beneath it, which is why I gave them 3 stars rather than 4. We will be seeing this place again before our departure back home.

When one thinks of where to get great sushi, Mississippi probably doesn't top that list. But Samurai in Gulfport has some of the best sushi we've ever had. The service is great, the decor extremely nice, and the food was fab. The portions are large and work well for sharing to serve family style so everyone can taste a little of everything. We love our sushi and look forward to the next time we're on the Gulf Coast just to hit up Samurai again.

This is the second time I have stopped by Samurai for lunch and while the plating and service is very good, the sushi is about as good as it gets on the Coast. Now I have been to Yukis and Sakura but Samurai's selection and ambiance are much more welcoming. Now here is my disclaimer, don't come to the Coast expecting 5 star suchi, if you are expecting to find Ika, Aoyagi, Sayori, Blue Fin Toro, Mirugai, Kurodai, Aji, and even Mirugai, then maybe you might want to try something back home. Sushi is in its infant stages on the Coast and while I do miss fresh Kampachi and Tamago I am not going to knock a restaurant because the clientele does not know the difference between a maki and nigiri rolls. But if you are looking for a place where you can throw done some yellowtail, albacore or salmon then Samurai's is the place to go. The chefs offer a delightful list of "special rolls" which are great to introduce the novice sushi'ist to the wonderful world of sushi. Call me a sushi snob, but thanks to my travels and fraternity brothers I have experienced sushi in its oldest and most basic forms. Blame them for introducing me to the traditional salty Narezushi where the fish is fermented for days to Oshizushi (What I call the Model -T assembly line sushi) and you will understand why I only gave Samurai's only 3 stars.

Loved this place! Snow Crab Salad was awesome and the sushi rolls rocked. Our waitress was super sweet and had great recommendations. The place is a little dark. Could use a little more lighting but the menu is ridiculous!!! So much variety to choose from. Loved it. Can't wait to eat some Hawaiian Rolls again! They were the bomb! My FIL recommended to add cream cheese to the Cali rolls and it made all the difference!

I have been here a couple of times and I can say it is pretty alright. I always get a Rock-N-Roll and what ever catches my eye. I have tried other places up the highway that were better. But this place is pretty decent I would say.

This place is nothing like the reviews... first of all, I realize I'm from California and maybe we do things different there, but when I sit at the sushi bar, I expect to speak to the sushi chef. I want to know whats fresh, I want to watch the action happen, I want to drink sake with my sushi man! When I tried to talk to the guy, he brushed me off to the waitress. When I sit at a bar, I don't expect to talk to the cocktail waitress, I want to talk to the guy making my drinks!! As I watched the guy make my sushi, he was fishing the sushi out of the fish "closet" for lack of a better term, and it was left open for the freezer to melt away and leave the area to melt and drip all over the sushi I was expecting to enjoy. When I got it, there was an inordinate amount of rice and the sushi was lukewarm (being nice on the temp here). The menu has all sorts of pictures and is a bit disorganized, but the main complaint is the way the fish was handled, stored and plated. LUKEWARM SUSHI??? REALLY? Verrrrry disappointed. I hear this is the best there is out here, so I know unfortunately I will be going back, but not for awhile. I need to get the taste out of my mouth. If you LOVE LOVE LOVE sushi, please don't go here. You'll just be homesick. Service was attentive by the waitress I was forced to talk to because I couldn't talk to my chef, and my husband enjoyed his teriyaki beef dish. I tasted it and it was flavorful. Sticky rice went well with it. Hot towels to start was a nice touch. Sake was boiling, and I love me some hot sake! these are the stars I gave it....

This is a below average sushi place, not super sure about the rest of the food but the sushi taste like they picked it up at a grocery store and put it on one of their plates. If you want sushi on the coast try Shiso in ocean springs, the fish is fresh, the atmosphere is amazing, and service is great.

OMG... this is the best Japanese restaurant in Gulfport-Biloxi area. They have a huge selection of menu. My husband & I go there almost everyweekend. Their Chicken Katsu is the best. My friend who lived in Japan for 12 years said that it tastes the same as the one in Japan. If you prefer rolls or sushi, you should try Peacock or Tiger Special Rolls. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

we love this place and go there pretty much every time we are in town. the waiter and waitresses are great and are very informative. the only prob is for me its way to dark. i had get this nice waiter to read something for me. goodness i hope we go to gulfport today.

New to town and went at the suggestion of a coworker. Great food! The dynamite roll was a little different than what I expected, but it was great. The beef udon was AMAZING. The staff was kind, and the service is prompt.

The food is good and it should be because it is pricey. I have dined here three times so far but there really is something about the atmosphere that makes me hesitant to come back every time my husband suggests we should go eat at Samurai. You walk in and the restaurant is dark; the restaurant is trying to go for a classy ambiance but they somehow fall short on all kinds of levels. The darkness of the restaurant gives it a dingy feel. Ultimately, the food does not disappoint and with a remodel to both the exterior and interior, Samurai could easily become one of the leading spots to get sushi in the surrounding area. PROS: Great food CONS: Dingy atmosphere Pricey for the experience

Mike K.
The sushi was fresh but not the highest quality. The rolls are fabulous, but watch out for the portions being too large for a single bite. The service is great and they are not too good to make rolls you want. Watch out, the Toro is not true fatty bluefin tuna. It was good tuna, but it was absolutely not fatty Toro. The plum ice cream was fantastic finish, ask for no chocolate sauce though, it's great by itself.
(4)

The food here is great every time I eat here the meal is worth the money and at decent portions only draw back I would say is there's no full bar but they do offer a few select alcoholic beverages all in all I recommend you eat here.

Really like coming here for lunch/dinner. Bento box lunches are pretty much the perfect portion. I favor the beef teriyaki box. The sushi is pretty good. Several regular rolls and specialty rolls to choose from. If you're eating just entrees, have at it! If you're planning on eating various rolls, bring your wallet! I can say out of most of the sushi places on the coast, this is my go to. Restaurant is pretty small. Located on HWY 49 near pass road. Tables are very clean and the place is presentable.

My favorite Sushi Bar outside of California! Great service and good sushi. The portions are generous and the sushi is always fresh. We love the lunch time sashimi bento box. My favorite dish and one that I have not commonly seen is the salmon skin salad--very tasty and spicy! I have been to different cities in Japan several times in the past year and while many will find this outrageous, Samurai is better than the places I found and I was so craving good sushi there!

This place has a very large selection of rolls and they have to be the biggest I've ever seen. I ordered 2 thinking they would be like the usual from other places and when they came out I couldn't even finish them. I should've known when the waiter asked my colleagues and I if we were really hungry. Very prompt and courteous staff.

I built my own roll, cream cheese, avocado and cucumber... the veggies were not very fresh. I like the fact that i can build my own roll but god help the people that eat meat from here if they cant even keep the produce fresh.

After a great day on Ship Island we rolled into Samurai. Did not expect it to be anything special. Well we were WRONG! The atmosphere was nice GREAT FOOD HUGE PORTIONS(so big all the way to Jackson we were SO FULL almost uncomfortable) But that was OUR FAULT! NOT THEIR'S! The price was very reasonable and our server(I believe her name was Kristen) was great and REAL PRETTY TOO (great eyes!) Will stop there again next time we are in Gulfport FO SHO!

By far, the best tasting Sushi that I have found on the Gulf Coast so far! The atmosphere is very relaxing and perfect for a business lunch. The sushi roll lunch is fantastic - I had the Alaska Smoked Salmon and a traditional Crunchy Roll. Ask your waiter to bring out a sauce tray! It offers 5 different delicacies in addition to the regular soy sauce. I suggest you order the Egg Drop Soup. It has a hint of bacon that is wonderful! Wait staff was fine and the vibe of the restaurant was calm and relaxed. I will certainly go back here for lunch when I am on the coast!

Delicious!!! Sushi was great. Ginger salad yummy!!

Extensive sushi menu. Have not had anything that was not great. May not be a 5 star spot but hard to beat in Gulfport-Biloxi area.

Wonderful service, good lunch specials, good sized portions We stop by several times a month to try out some new sushi Prices won't break the bank either

Love Samurai!!! The sushi is awesome. And the lunch bento boxes are a TON of yummy food for a great price. Nice atmosphere with good service too. Mmmm now I'm thinking about when I will be going back...

Great atmosphere and pleasant service.

(5)Ashley G.

(4)Aaron R.
The food here is great every time I eat here the meal is worth the money and at decent portions only draw back I would say is there's no full bar but they do offer a few select alcoholic beverages all in all I recommend you eat here.
(4)Rob T.
Outstanding service, And the food even better!!! Drove all the way from the Bay Area to Gulfport!! :-)
(5)Rex J.

(5)Kelvin R.

(5)Eric P.
Great place. We get take-out at least twice per week
(5)Charli P.

Love Samurai!!! Food is great and presentation is beautiful. A tad pricey but very good.
(5)Anya C.
Really good, but I wish the portions were a bit bigger. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Everything was cooked correctly and had a great flavor. I would definitely come back again.
(5)Laurie P.
This is the best sushi place. The service as well as the food were excellent. Presentation, taste, texture were all outstanding. Our server Dwayne was so helpful and friendly. This was a dining experience. It is a MUST when we are here again. We are just traveling thru. What a GREAT find. My soul is happy. Thank you.
(5)Blair P.
The food delicious and extremely presented and my salmon dinner surprisingly good. Not a fan of the "chicken rice", salad good and miso soup outstanding. The only negative is that the restaurant is a little loud.
(4)Jerry E.
Outstanding sushi and I love the atmosphere. You will love it too!!! If can get a little loud in here when full of customers.
