Fatsumo is easily my favorite restaurant in on the Coast. The staff is so friendly, the sauces and ingredient combinations are so unique - unlike anything you'll find at other sushi restaurants, and BETTER than anything you'll find at other sushi restaurants. It's also fantastic for catering and parties. You will like everything on the menu. It's not cheap, but they do have some GREAT specials that make the price comparable to other sushi restaurants in the area where the quality is lacking. Don't miss out on this restaurant!!!!

We have eaten here twice. We had the same server both times and was very pleased by her. She was prompt and pleasant. The first time we ate here months ago it was average and worth giving a second try especially since it was new and they where getting things down pat. Unfortunately this week we made our second visit. The crunchy roll had substituted crab stick for shredded crab that was so overlooked it spit the first bite into my napkin to check for foreign plastic objects. My mom's steak had no seasoning, which is a shame because it was a decent cut of meat. My girlfriend and I both ordered raw tuna sushi in different ways and both received dry meat. The the Nigeria was hacked into rough looking strips that where dry on the edges and the sashimi was dry on the outer edges of the piece. The Nigeria was so bad we notified our waitress who said she would speak to the chef. In a few minutes we where approached from a man behind the counter. When we explained the problem with the the Nigeria he acted irritated with us. He explained he had no room for tuna in the cold shelf on the counter and had to leave the meat where it was warm and caused it to dry out. He then informed us that sending back something cost him money and made it very evident he was not happy about comping this portion of our meal. We did receive a comp for the Nigeria, but unfortunately we where so displeased with our chefs attitude and the food we where served we will not be visiting fat sumo any longer.

I'll start by saying they're sushi is really good and so is the restaurant environment, however, with such offerings as Samurai minutes down the road, Fatsumo isn't really competitively priced. $30 @ Samurai gets me the same quality food with a military discount but twice the quantity. Fatsumo does have a good staff and it's conveniently located north of I-10 if you're in that area.

What a nice addition to the Orange Grove area of Gulfport! I had dinner here with some friends and i was really skeptical to say the least about eating sushi in a strip mall but i left full and happy. The prices are kind of steep and their rolls are somewhat inventive. I wanted more and more and more but unfortunately, everyone else was full :(

Ate here on a Monday night for dinner. Ordered a veggie roll and a white tuna roll, as well as the seaweed salad for an appetizer. The food came out very quickly and was excellent. The bartender was very friendly as well as the sushi chef. Highly recommend.

The sushi was fresh and tasty, but the portions were not as large as some are reporting here. We've frequently had sushi at Sakura and other places along the coast, and I can't say these portions are any larger. I couldn't decide on which rolls to order since I do not like any of the cream cheese or mayonnaise mixtures and sauces that seem to be so popular in this area. We eventually ordered the Cajun Roll and Firecracker Roll--both were delicious. We later found out that you can order the special, which is apparently one of half of two different rolls. Unfortunately, our server did not mention this to us. My son ordered ramen noodles with beef. He said the noodles were slightly undercooked and that it reminded him of the packets of ramen noodles you can get at the grocery store. He didn't finish his noodles, but did say his California Roll was yummy.

12/13 update Well, we have visited a few more times to Fatsumo's and the food is EXCELLENT. Have yet to find a dish we are not happy with. Fatsumo has just opened and still working out the kinks but I have to say, no kinks in the food your getting here. I just stopped in for take out the other day. Portion sizes are not lacking. I ordered the Masago which was more roe than I'm use to getting at any of the sushi places I have been to. Also ordered the Playboy roll. I would have enjoyed a bit more of the sauce that was used on top of the roll but all and all I was happy. We tried to eat in on Friday night and even called ahead to make sure there was seating since it's a pretty small place. Showed up about 30 minutes after calling and found the place was packed with over an hour wait. So headed on down to another favorite Sushi place. To me the prices are a bit on the high side as I don't recall ever paying $8 for roe but then again like I said it was more roe in one order than I have ever seen so you are getting what you paid for. The menu is not huge but I'm sure that will get some tweaking as time goes on as well. I say it's worth a try and I will continue to visit Fatsumo to try some more of the rolls they have.

Shout Outs and thanks go out to Heather P. for finding this gem in Orange Grove. Fatsumo is not your ordinary or traditional sushi house. Fatsumo's head chef has taken traditional maki rolls and created cutting edge gastronomical delights. When you first walk in you will notice that it is somewhat small but if you don't mind sitting within hearing distance of the people next to you then it is not a problem. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Don't be surprised if you are approached by at least three different hosts and asked for input on your dishes. Fatsumo's has found a perfect balance between traditional sushi rolls and Asian/Gulf Coast Fusion. I began my meal with miso soup (***stars) which had additional seasoning and fresh mushroom garnish. I applaud the chefs effort to add a kick to the soup but miso is best served in its traditional form. For our main dishes, my friend and I decided to try the house specials. We began with a Cajun Roll (****stars) which was an awesome combination of tempura and a thin slice of perfectly seasoned and cooked steak!!! Our second entree was a Firecracker Roll (****stars) which left our mouth watering for more. We then tried the Playboy Roll (*****stars) which blew my socks off!!! Not wanting to leave we tried the Pebble Beach Roll (*****stars) which had me wondering where these delightful rolls have been all my life. Now for those who enjoy Nigiri or Sashimi don't fret it is there and on the menu. All of the ingredients were very fresh and perfectly wrapped and seasoned. I agree with Heather P., the prices are a tad higher than other sushi houses around town, but the well sized portions and extra ingredients added in these rolls is well worth it. WARNING: If you find a specialty roll that you like and want to order it in the future, make sure you ask your server what it is called. Fatsumo's head chef has a rotating menu and what you order and find in the house special or spring roll on one day may not be what is being served the next. I spoke with the head host and he explained to me that they have an outdoor patio with heat lamps that they will have up and running in a few days. I was very impressed with the place settings, table/booth seating and chop sticks. If you are in a hurry or want to order ahead they offer call in ordering and take out. I felt bad knocking off one star, but the small size of the restaurant left me feeling a bit crowded. I definitely will be making this a routine stop on my way home.

Great spot for sushi in the Gulfport/Biloxi area. The staff was friendly and the place was very well kept. I had both the Cajun and the Firecracker rolls. Delicious.

This place is great for Orange Grove and the surrounding area and we're happy it arrived. But...my yellow tail was not so good, and my mackerel nigiri came off like kippers. And...sadly, the rainbow roll was just bland. In short, nothing had the freshness you want from sushi. It felt heavy and tasted dull. California rolls were good, edamame was good, fried gyoza were good, and the special request avocado roll was perfect. We left thinking that the best bet might be to order the special named rolls rather than the more common stuff. The place was packed and everybody was enjoying the food. Maybe we should have gone more with the flow.

Dammit..am i missing something here?? Every review i read from anyone else they are talking about how great the portion sizes are... am i getting anorexic Karen Carpenter portions because they think i can't eat my weight in sushi?? Ive never once left here feeling full...but my wallet def felt the punch. Either the prices need to come down or the portion sizes need to be bigger. That said, the sushi is excellent... which makes it all the more aggravating because everything ive had there was incredibly good but i had to spend nearly 30 bucks..on just ME to not still be starving when i left. I cant afford that so i rarely go there. The decor is really cute and modern, very nice but the restaurant is small (although def bigger than when it was Blowfish/Fuze in Ocean Springs) so if you are planning on going on a weekend night, I would plan to wait for a table. Ive gone mainly during the day on saturdays and never had a problem getting a seat though. So unfortunately i just cant give them more stars because unlike the other reviewers I felt the portions were definitely lacking.

Went for the Combo for lunch that breaks it down into 3 half Grand Champion rolls with Miso Soup and side salad for increased happiness to my blood. :-) To me sushi is not complete unless you can sip on some Dai Ginjo. :-( However the food covers the fact that my palate misses a nice cup of Dai Ginjo. Green tea starts the entry and prepares the system for the absorption of very important seafood minerals while also releasing the tiny taste pills on the palate. It's all good from here! Unfiltered sake comes to the table chilled to the squeeze. Will be back! 5 stars.

Delicious rolls, great service! We started with squid salad for an appetizer and miso soup followed by combo dinners. I had the Shrimp Tempura roll and the Mile High roll. My daughter had the Tuna Nigiri, Crunchy roll, and Tuna roll. We had the house dessert at the suggestion of the waitress; it was just the right size and super yummy. Everything was wonderful. We usually eat at Samurai but I'm glad we tried Fatsumo... the check was at least $15 less than we would have spent at Samurai and the food was top notch. We will definitely be back.
