The best steak on the Coast in the Gulfport/Biloxi area; especially for the price. Go big with the Nickey Creole and you'd have to be a snob to be disappointed. The place is not open everyday of the week. The seating is cramped, there's quite a wait on the weekends for a table, and it's not the cleanest joint in town. However, their steak is worth it!

For review by caree c: in my years of going to Captain Al's they never claimed to have the best cuts of meat, But, how was the flavor??? I love the pecan smoked grilled flavor.....I am willing to tolerate a little gristle for the flavor. Also, they have never had real crab meat in the salad....but did you try the home- made honey mustard dressing.....it is he greatest...I am going there tonight and I expect that my only dissatisfaction will be the prices....
(4)Colin E.
Great steak, shrimp and crab-cakes. Don't ask for steak sauce. They don't have any and it's not needed for their steaks. Amazing food and fun staff.
(5)Ross L.
I love their steaks and the flavor that they have from the Pecan Wood. They are always tender and juicy. I usually get the shrimp as well, which are always crispy and delicious. The price is probably right at about average, but I dont go there much. The waitress' are very good looking but in a girl-next-door type of way, just a Remy stated.
(4)Randy T.
I love the Surf n Turf, try making that at home with Al's prices. Wish some of the other restaurants with poor service would visit and watch these girls serve. They really hustle! Albert takes is steaks seriously as the saying goes " We do steaks right" lol.
(5)Douglas P.
Five star over-the-top friendly and attentive service by the staff of young ladies. Right off the I-40. Three star food experience. Crab salad was good, rib eye was a little thin, but tasty. Cooked on an open wood fueled grill. Fried shrimp was good. Typical "gulf coast," corrugated metal, gulf beach-shack style setting. I would return for the service experience alone! Relatively expensive for the area if you don't stick to the specials. Full bar available. Closes no later then 9:00pm every evening of the week. Some informal outdoor seating areas.
(4)David L.
This was supose to be a quick snack stop on the way down to BR from MD but I ended up ordering the steak... OMG the steak.... it was perfectly seasoned and grilled. I still have dreams about that steak. The servers were all very attentive and a good looking bunch of ladies. You can't go wrong with steak, beer, and pretty ladies with an awesome southern accent.

Another place that is banking on its customers thinking how it ~used~ to be good. but it's not anymore. I'm sure it used to have great steaks and used to have real crabmeat on their salads. But these days you go, it's VERY cramped, the steaks small and gristly and the crabmeat on the salads isn't even real anymore (come on! this is the MS Gulf coast! you can't fool us!) you can fool the customers that love to eat at Golden Corral, but I'm not drinking the Kool-aid. and of course, very over-priced. avoid.
(1)Michelle G.
Best shrimp on the Gulf Coast, period. The steaks are excellent, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is beach-funky. However long the wait is, it's worth it.
(5)Bryan M.
Love the oyster po-boys!
(4)Timothy N.
My wife had the hamburger steak with twice baked potato... The meat was good she said the potato had only sour cream, and butter no bacon bits or maybe some chives covered with quilt of cheese and me personally was not worth the $14 price tag...
(3)Gina B.
Good for the price..
(3)Joey C.
Good place to go if your hunger hits you while on I-10. Can't go wrong with their surf n turf.
(3)Ben B.
Gulfport isn't very big so I relied on my buddy Yelp! This lace was the neatest little "dive" restaurant I've seen! The servers were friendly. TVs around with ESPN. Had a little crap salad with their home made honey mustard. Yum! Main dish was a shrimp po boy with fries. HUGE shrimp and yummy fries. Walked out full but definitely not broke. Sandwiches were $6-8. Would return if ever in the area.
(4)Dave R.
Have been driving past this place for years, and finally the wife and I decided it was time to try it. Glad we did. Delicious, well-seasoned steaks (my wife had the rib-eye, I had the filet), and we also tried the grilled shrimp, also delicious and well-prepared. Stuffed potato side dish good, crab salad good, service good. A little pricey for this area, but I'd still return again.

I would've given Captain Al's two stars, but there were more bad aspects to my visit than good. Subtracting my one food allergy, I have a stomach of steel that this place took down like Godzilla strolling through the park. The infamous "crab" salad is imitation crab that is finely flaked to give a more authentic look--not impressed & it comes off as a maneuver similar to buying off-label jeans but sewing on a Calvin Klein label. They offer only two salad dressings, ranch & honey mustard, both said to be made in-house, but if you ask me, it's a cheapskate move like the imitation crab. Is it that hard to add at a minimum an Italian or oil & vinegar? I'm no fan of the ubiquitous ranch and the honey mustard was the first item to upset my stomach. I ordered the crab cake dinner for my entree. First off, the server informed me that the stuffed potato was "pre-made" (that disturbs me and makes me suspect "bought bulk frozen." Have these people ever considered food allergies?). I went with the plain baked potato and guess what? It's all the same offerings in the stuffed potato without the green onions but on the side. So why bother offering the stuffed potato to start? That alone would save some money. The crab cakes--oh dear. I took one bite and as I was chewing it, I realized something was very wrong. I had it all boxed to go and didn't even touch the baked potato, heading straight home. Initially I thought the honey mustard (which has a strong bite, and I adore spicy--this is not spicy but just irritatingly strong) was the culprit--the truth was worse. That evening, I heated up one of the crab cakes and the baked potato. Three bites into the crab cake, it was clear something in the crab cake wasn't just bad but foul. I couldn't eat for 24 hours afterwards. Final opinion: it's not worth the hype based on my experience. Imitation crab, two lousy dressings, and food poisoning for $20+ anyone? The staff was attentive and friendly all the same.
(1)Eugenie B.
Two stars because the wait staff is so nice and the decor really cute. There's an unpleasant odor that hits you as soon as you enter the establishment. If you're sensitive to smells avoid this place. Monday's red beans & rice is fine although not as good as I had anticipated. Perhaps because I make a mean batch myself. Corn & crab is fine but soup nothing special. My friend tried my red beans then stayed "No Flavor" Staff couldn't be nicer. So in a pinch while waiting for your car to be serviced at the nearby Dealership this is an ok option.
(2)Eric R.
Food was very good and came out quick. The seating area is a little cramped but it is well worth it. I had the crab cake sandwich with corn on the cob.
(4)Will K.
Great place to visit and get a taste of Mississippi. Grilled shrimp were FRESH, tasty and perfectly cooked. Had a steak sandwich that was truly a steak on bread and the gumbo. Oh.. the gumbo, truly good. The interior is decorated with local odds and ends, adding to the atmosphere. Service is friendly, quick and attentive. People there are a mix of locals and visitors; and a really friendly group at that. Good selection of beers, and the menu has a lot of promise for return visits. This was recommended by a local, who was exactly right. Good food, good times.

The steaks here are the best!

The waitress was sitting in a corner booth when we came in, causing me to mistake her for another paying customer...after we sat down at a table, she got up and spoke to a bartender, then came over to take our order, using the word 'we' as if she were included, which I hate (it should be "are YOU ready to order?" rather than "are WE ready to order?") I pointed out we would have rather had the booth, she said she'd be back to wipe off the table and we moved over in the meantime. She looked at us when she returned with the rag and said "you didn't want me to wipe off the table"? We all looked at her, apparently unaware we should have remained standing until she arrived so we could watch her wipe the crumbs onto our seats and the floor instead of into her other hand. After she was forced to do it correctly, she wanted to take our order. We weren't ready yet because we hadn't been there before, we'd only heard about it from a friend who used to live here. When the waitress was finally allowed to take our order, she SAT DOWN to do so, although not at our table, she sat at the neighboring table--I still thought it was unprofessional and sloppy. We had lunch here - a crab po' boy, a bowl of gumbo and the shrimp platter - around $40, but glancing at the dinner menu didn't see much under $25/plate. The gumbo tasted okay except it had chunks of what seemed like hot dog meat in it -- It was a kind of sausage, but not the thick crumbly kind, rather a cheap pressed kind. This place has been here for decades, but I'd never heard of it and I've been on the Coast for over fifteen years. The reason is clear once you've been here. It's not a place I'll ever miss when I never go back. I'll educate the friend too.

So this is a 3.5/4... Positives Steaks taste great from the open pit - so good! The peppers and onion strings are made fresh with is a rare find Light hearted decorating scheme, very nautical. Negatives So the steaks are cut really thin, guess that way they don't have to really watch them just throw on the grill and serve. Crab salad is a joke, tasteless and made from imitation crab meat Leave the mayo out on the tables all day... health hazard in the heat I would go back but would be very specific on my order, basically just focus on the steak and skip the house salad, crab salad. Note: this review is a little late. I went before I deployed and I haven't been able to get consistent access to Yelp to finish this and a whole bunch of other reviews from a few months ago.
(4)Angela M.
After hearing so many people talk about how good this place is, we finally stopped in. What a mistake... we had onion rings as an appetizer, then both had steaks and "grilled" shrimp. The onion rings were so-so but the steaks and shrimp were awful. Like someone else said, the crab salad is not even real crab and the steaks (filet & ribeye) were both full of gristle and liquid smoke. The potatoes were cold and tasted like yesterday's leftovers and the "grilled" shrimp were boiled then dipped in liquid smoke. We literally ate half our meals. At $70, it was really a shame... So disappointed.
(1)Ashley E.
Crab cakes are delicious! Love their daily lunch specials. Rib eye is juicy. Oh And they deliver now which is awesome.
(3)Kristi D.
I wasn't very impressed at all. I've lived on the Coast all my life and have always heard about how great this place is but never really made a point to go there. Another place that a friend and I usually go to had recently closed so we decided to try this place out. It was super packed but the 2 dining areas are also pretty tiny. There was a party of 20 and another party of 10 and I guess since there were just 2 of us, it took the staff a few minutes to even notice that we'd walked in. The same thing happened for the few smaller parties that came in after us. I noticed "crabmeat salad" on the menu but was disappointed to discover that they use imitation crabmeat. That's a shame, considering we were just a few miles away from the Gulf. I guess if you're in the mood for surf and turf (and only surf and turf... maybe some fries or a baked potato as well), then you'll like this place. I had the filet which was okay. But I've had better. An overall okay dining experience, but I wish they had more seafood options on their menu (no fried oysters??) and not such a cramped dining area.
(2)Remy O.
Ok so Hooters is a tad to raunchy for you, but you still enjoy being served by beautiful women... Then Captain Al's is the place for you. The servers are all hot but have this girl next door appearance. No short shorts or two sizes too small white tees but still a beautiful smile an a great pair of legs!!! Tucked away on the north side of I-10 off the Lorraine-Cowain exit this small seafood and steakhouse is an excellent place to stop and have dinner with the guys or even take a date. Their Rib-Eye steak (**** stars) is soo juicy and tender, they dont serve steak sauce so that you can enjoy the flavor. I substituted the fried shrimp for a awesome crab cake (***** stars) which was soo good I had it without their awesome marmalade sauce. The meal also came with a lump of crab meat salad (*** stars) which I wish would have had some tomatoes but the ranch dressing they serve is really good. ( You ever order the ranch at a restaurant and it just doesn't have that kick?!?) I knocked a star off because the tables and chairs inside the restaurant could really use a make over and because my bake potato and that of the table next to us were served luke warm... All in all a great place to grab a steak. The offer lunch specials, po boys and according to my buddy who joined me, the cat fish was great.
(3)Phil L.
Was passing through and it is was a good place to stop for a bite. The servers are nice and their accent got me. You can do without the crab salad like the previous Yelper mentioned but the Steak IS GOOD! The crab cakes were deep fried but pretty good. They have a crab claw appetizer that's pretty tasty. Overall, it's a nice family run place with friendly people and good food. I'd go back again if I were in the area and hungry.
