My favorite place to go when I visit Gulfport. The poboys are great, only problem I have is the long wait. But the food is worth the wait.

Nice score via yelp! Was driving from N.O. to Pcola... Used yelp app to search for places for lunch.. This place was a little off the highway but I was okay with that and figured the quality would be better that way. I had the shrimp po boy and a sweet tea and it was delish! My GF had some sort of noodle thang and she seemed to really enjoy it. The shrimp po boy was extremely tasty. I would recommend it; and would go back.

Was searching for a good place to get a shrimp po' boy since the place I used to go has not been the same since Katrina. This place was recommended by several friends, so decided to give it a try. First of all, if you were just driving by, you would NEVER stop...looks like it's in an old drive-up ice cream place, with a little sandwich-board sign, in kind of a crappy part of town. BUT...it had been recommended and I've had some great food in some real dives, so decided what the hell. It's called Ben's Deli...so you would expect a little Jewish guy selling pastrami sandwiches (which would also be nice...I'm Jewish and would love a good deli!)...but no...instead it is an old ice cream shop, with a Jewish sounding name, run by a lovely Asian couple, and serves an odd mix of seafood and Asian dishes (lo mein, anyone?). Even though it looks a little iffy, the health food rating was an "A" (I always look...I won't eat anywhere if it is lower than a 90). There are no tables as about 99% of their business is take-out (judging by the stream of people coming in and out while we were there). There is a makeshift counter built against the front windows with a few bar stools for people to either eat at or sit on while they wait for their food. Prices are extremely reasonable. I ordered the shrimp po' boy with a side of hushpuppies, a side of potato salad, and a sweet tea (was about $9 for all). Tea was nice and strong (yay!), potato salad was standard, hushpuppies were not to my taste. I don't know what the spice was that was in them, but I didn't care for it. If you are expecting the usual, cornbread, onion, southern hushpuppies, you will be disappointed. If you like to try new flavors in old favorites, give them a try. The icing on the cake, though, was the po' boy. It was fantastic. I have posted pictures, which don't do it justice. Lettuce, tomato and mayo ("dressed" for those in the know) were perfect and the shrimp were piled on so high that what fell off (also posted in a picture) was a meal unto itself. Best po' boy I've had in ages. If you want ambiance, though, go elsewhere! It is small, cramped, and you had a lovely view of a tire/transmission shop and a title pawn place. Once you started eating, though, you no longer cared about the view! If you want ambiance, pick up a po' boy and get it to go! p.s., I have been told that the lo mein is also amazing...will have to try it next time!

Based on other yelp reviews, we gave this a go. I wanted to turn around and leave after we walked in. This place is DIRTY. The doors, floors, the counters, the walls around where the service window is....ICK! Disgusting and off-putting. How it passes inspection is beyond me! But I persevered with hubs in search of a good poboy. Okay, the shrimp and oyster poboys are pretty good and generously filled. The mayo is very watery and drippy, though, and we prefer the french bread to be toasted - which I suppose we could have asked for. But I left with our greasy sack of poboys feeling like I needed to go home and take a shower.

Best local po'boy joint in the coast! Fresh seafood, perfectly fried and reasonably priced...when the fried shrimp is over flowing from the wrapper of the sandwich..you know it's going to be good. Ben's deli never skimps on the fried southern seafood. I can't wait to visit family in Gulfport again...so then i have an excuse to hit up Ben's Deli and get some authentic shrimp po'boy sandwiches.

Vaue to quantity the best around. The po-boys, if try nothing else are reason enough to keep coming back. The plates are fantastic. I am from the coast I have tried po boys in every southern coastal state and I have not found one that brings me back like lees.

Don't judge a book by its cover. This little shack is putting out the best seafood platters on the Gulf Coast. The amount of food they fill the go plates with is so full they have to hold the lid down with rubber bands. I'm a big boy and I cannot eat all the food they put in the plate. They make it from scratch when you order so I call mine in first. The pork lomein is good, as well is the big dad po'boy. But the bang for the buck is the seafood platter.

Some of the best fried seafood around. They always give you so much to eat. I can't seem to finish my food. Get the seafood platter to share.

I pretty much love this place, like the other have said, the place is a hole in the wall, small, crowded, doesn't take credit cards. But man do they make up for it in taste!! Ben's has the best shrimp fried rice I have ever tasted. My husband told me about it, I didn't believe him so I tried and was amazed!!! The menu has a little something for everyone!

I expect my next time to be much better. I simply ordered a ham and cheese po boy with fries. You get a good amount with just the 8 inch alone. Pretty good for something so simple. Fries were a bit undercooked, probably won't get them again if they are always that way. Wait time wasn't too bad considering I was the only one in there at the time. The guy working was incredibly nice. No complaints. I'll try this place again in the future. Don't expect to dine in, VERY limited seating, not a lot of parking. This is easily a to go place. Go check it out!

You can't beat their Shrimp plate or the Big Daddy combo! I have eaten here several times over the past 10 years and have yet to find anything I don't like.

The food is good but the service is horrible. There's an ugly lady in the front who's always so rude. She'll give you an attitude on the phone and to your face. Honestly she needs to find another job if she hates it so much, running the customers away

Lady behind the counter is very rude!!!!other than that..Is great food! She treat people like their giving the food away & your not paying for it..

Value and Portion Size. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, stop off at Ben's Deli. As another reviewer stated, it's definitely not anything to look at. It's not a great atmosphere, you won't really want to sit down and eat it there at one of their 3 or 4 stools. But you'll get some of the best Lo Mein Noodles and PoBoys on the coast. The shrimp PoBoy is really good, with plenty of shrimp. Knowing a little bit about food costs, particularly seafood, they're not making much per serving on this one. I'd give it 5 stars, but they don't accept credit cards. Really? In today's society? Yea, I know it cost them a little money to accept cards, but has no one told them the average transaction via credit card is significantly higher than with cash? And people tip more on credit cards than they do with cash? Come on, start accepting plastic and more people will stop in and will probably be more likely to spend more money. Other than this litle item, this place is fantastic.

This place is a little fixture that has changed names/owners/menus over the year behind my grandma's house. If this place has been in business for over 5 years, than it houses an amazingly cheap and delicious seafood platter. I want to say my buddy and i came here and got catfish, shrimp, hush puppies and fries for under $10. It was really good and got us stuffed!

Have to give Ben's 5 stars. You can't beat it. Its nothing special and not really a place you would stay to dine but order the shrimp platter. They will load you down with so much fresh gulf shrimp they have to ruberband it closed. This is a place us locals go for some quick cheap amazing fried seafood.

This may not be fine dining...but it is "Fine Dining" ha ha This place is amazing. When you first walk up to it, it is a hole in the wall kind of place but let me tell you to not be afraid of places that don't look appitizing from the outside because those are the places that serve up great homemade meals and has always been a favorite of mine and I've lived here since 2001. This is a must try! My husband loves their Hot Sausage Po Boy and my favorite is the shrimp platter. You get some much food for $8.95 that they have to rubber band the box!! Their sweettea is amazing too!

Ben's Deli is another one of these great burger places where you can grab a bite to eat on or about $6.00. BD east of downtown Gulfport on pass road and unless you want to wait in their small bar seating area, you should call you order in 15 to 20 minutes in advance. BD doesnt take credit cards so either have your cash ready or go to the Hancock bank ATM next door. They have a wide variety of burger/American Chinese style fast food. Their "Big Daddy" burger comes with sauteed mushrooms and i love their onion rings finished off with their sweet tea. Now you Yankees and homies in CA may not understand the true essence of "sweet tea" which is the only way us folks down South drink tap water. You can get it by the glass or buy it by the gallon but like I said call ahead and bring cash. I hear the po boys are good but when i'm slummin it I stick to what I know taste good. Don't be surprised if you call in at or around twelve and the phone rings busy, its like when you were a kid and tried calling into a radio station for free tickets. So was everyone and their mothers. Just hang up and try again and when you do get through be quick with your order or you will will here the infamous "Please Hold" and be left their for half an hour.

Ben's wins the award for largest portion size to cost on the coast. We usually order a couple of seafood platters for lunch while at work, which easily feeds four people for about $20. The shrimp are great, the catfish is decent, and the fries and other trimmings are acceptable. If hunger trumps everything else, Ben's deli is the place to go. I haven't tried anything but the seafood, but their menu is very extensive (and somewhat eclectic). Call ahead and pick up; Ben's is another place best eaten at home (or at work, in my case).

East of Downtown Gulfport, on Pass Road. Sit's a little Deli. A little Deli with Big taste, and even bigger portions. The Oyster/Shrimp platter is my favorite. The sweet tea is decent, the staff is friendly and efficient. You can place orders ahead of time, which is a good idea due to the popularity of this place. It has won awards on portion size and everything taste delicious. I recommend this one!
