I have only been on Thursdays and Fridays, so I can't speak about the other daily specials. On Thursdays, the special is chicken and dumplings. It is the BEST I have ever eaten. On Fridays it is shrimp spaghetti or shrimp po boy. With either one of those days, you can't miss.

The place could be easily missed as it's a home turned into a place to eat, and it's hard to see from Pass road. You'd better hope it isn't busy, as there are probably only 8 parking spots, 2 of them handicap. Also, there are only I believe 10 tables. The table I sat at had water and crumbs on it, as it wasn't cleaned yet. I ordered the special of the day which was red beans, rice, and sausage. The woman brought me a lemonade. I was disappointed it wasn't homemade, as small places like this usually make their own. Not a big deal I suppose. She brought me my meal incredibly fast as their were only 3 total people in the place at the time. The plate was nicely done, almost professional looking. As I started eating my main course, I began to realize it was getting cold at a faster rate than it should. Heck, my mac n cheese side was hotter at that point. I finally came to the realization that since it was the special for the day, it was most likely premade. The taste of the red beans and rice was pretty below average, as I've had much better down here. I wasn't expecting a desert, and went ahead and selected the banana pudding. As I was eating, I had begun to realize the breading tasted almost stale. Surprised by that. The meal came out to be $9.25ish. I tipped well only because of the woman who brought me my food. She was incredibly lovely, and the only reason this review isn't getting a one star. I hate giving small, local places like this negative reviews, but I have to be honest every time I review a place. I won't be returning.

They are right behind the marine place on pass road. They are not open on Sat. It is a house converted to a restaurant. For the price and the quantity of food its great. The spaghetti, was good but i could feel the heart attack coming on....buttery licious...french bread not to my liking cuz I like that hard...coleslaw, potato salad the best i've had down here in MS. cake pretty good. coffee good. I'll be back. need to try different items and probably rank this place up one more star.

i'm glad to be updating alice's reviews. it's still rocking out soul food. the last time i went - and i do go often - i got the meatloaf & mash potatoes (tues.), squash casserole, cabbage, and banana pudding. needed a nap afterwards. i love supporting alice's because it's local, these two sisters work hard and take pride in their food and taking care of their customers. everything is truly homemade and cooked with soul. and butter. i like everything i've had on the menu. i highly recommend giving them a shot. you'll find a great go-to place for any day of the week.

I was overwhelmed with anticipation. I usually am let down after this, but today was different. Alice's chicken dumplings really hit the spot. I ordered takeout, which requires 30 minute lead time. This is a very neat looking place inside and out. I can't see going back to one of those "deli's" for quite a while now. Alice's is A+ wonderful. Peace.

Right off of Pass road is one of Gulfport's best kept secrets. Ms. Pat offers some of the Coast's best local hometown cooking. Ever since Ms. Mary's Gumbo House closed, I have been fiending for some good home style Soul cooking. I was invited here the other day by one of our local county supervisors and taking me here for lunch has secured my vote in the next election. Alice's Cafe offers a daily special menu that includes a main course item and two sides, dessert and muffin or cornbread for about $8.00. On my first visit was on a Tuesday and I had the baked chicken (**** stars) Cornbread dressing (***** stars) and a squash casserole (***** stars). Everything was delicious even the cornbread and the sweet tea is perfectly made. Not too sweet but sweet enough!!! Today (Thursday) I went back had the chicken dumplings (***** stars) some more cornbread dressing (not on the menu today, but I am special like that) and the turnip greens (**** stars) Tomorrow they have shrimp spaghetti and garlic bread but Monday is fried chicken and Saturday is BBQ!!! The waitress is a beautiful and pleasant young lady from the the Dominican Republic whose mere presence is refreshing in an area where everyone (except for myself) is either white or black. If you are not looking for a heavy lunch or are in the mood for breakfast they are open ahd have .appetizers, sandwiches, and salads, on the menu. Next time I go I am going to have the smothered pork chops or red beans and rice, which I hear are off the chain!!!

We stopped here for lunch on thurs afternoon. It is run by 2 great ladies that are sisters, one does the cooking and the other the baking. The menu is fixed and lunch runs about 9.00. The food was excellent! For lunch I had the chicken and dumplings that came with 2 sides, your drink and dessert. Everything is made from scratch and you can tell. When we were closing out our bill 4 people less than 40.00 bucks I asked where I could get sweet potato pie. the sister that does the baking said if I came back the next day she would make me one. So since I am health conscious I rode a bike I rented on base 10 miles just to eat lunch there again the next day. I had the shrimp po boy, potato salad and you guessed it the pie. I had to make myself try someplace different the next day and then proceeded to pine away that I had wasted a precious day away from Alice's Cafe.

***** NOM UPDATE!!!!***** So today at work i realized a sandwich or whatever frozen diet meal atrocity i had waiting at home wasnt going to cut it, so i decided to make a call to Alice's. The specials today were spaghetti or chicken and dumplings and I chose the chicken and dumplings! Tons of REAL chicken and nice thin dumplings!! Im a fan of thin dumplings..i dont like those thick doughy ones that make you full after 2 or 3. So when they asked me for my sides she said they had some cabbage, turnips, broccoli cheese casserole, peas.. I was ecstatic because i love my greens so I chose cabbage and the broccoli cheese casserole. Both were awesome!! Then i got to choose a dessert... did i want nanner pudding, bread pudding, cobbler, german chocolate cake?? This was truly the most important decision so far today :p I chose the nanna pudding and oooohhh it was sooo good!! BUT..But... what i really need to talk about is the cornbread I had... It tasted like it had just popped out of the muffin pan..it was so moist and warm and sweet...it was the stuff that dreams were made of folks.. Really people.. do i need to say it again?? Go here! There arent many places around G'port doing homestyle lunches esp around the downtown area and especially ones with offerings like cabbage, turnips and squash casserole. Yummmmmmm....
