We hit this 521 year old (or something like that) joint for the first time the other day after living down here for four+ years. First of all, it can be tricky to get into. There are like three-four different ways to get in. If you are a ninja, you could probably drop in from the ceiling, too, so make that four-five. We walked in and found ourselves in the bar and were all like "Um...okay?" There were dudes in polo shirts and boat shoes getting their drank on...but we were there to EAT! We walked past them and up some stairs and found the hostess. Another side note: Don't worry about a dress code. I saw everything from people in suits to flip flops and board shorts. The hostesss had on jeans. I opted to go with no pants. Just my drawers. Kinda weird but I like it. Kidding...trying to see if you are still reading. Anyways we got sat in a room with a brick floor, which we think was an add on sometime in the past. The whole joint is a maze, not one huge dining room. Also, we didn't make reservations so not sure if that is why we got sat where we did but whatever. The chairs were kinda uncomfy and my butt fell asleep. We got the au gratin app and although kinda rich, it was good. We ordered the prime rib and the stuffed snapper. Snapper...say it out loud. Sounds funny. The Prime rib...hmm...I think she was kinda disappointed in it. I tried it and the taste reminded me of the PR my grandpa used to make, which was the bomb. I almost ordered it but I went with the snapper and I am glad I did. I never tried snapper (there is that damn word again) before but I dig it now. It was stuffed with the same stuff that makes up the au gratin app, so just know that going into it. The flavors joined forces for one huge party in my mouth. I wanted to sing to the heavens. And then a fellow in a bright yellow (look at me!) shirt walked by, with said shirt tucked into his underware. Polo underware. I know this because they were hanging out of the back of his pants. I almost whizzed on myself with laughter. To make it better, he walked by twice. Yelpers, if I had my camera out I would have got a pic and posted it with this review, but I missed that op. We were still laughing when we ordered desert...the bread pudding. YOU MUST TRY THAT. Wow. Seriously. So to wrap this visit up...give it a shot. Maybe stick to a signature item on the menu vs. one of the staples like PR. We will be going back for sure.

This is one of the better known, and probably better restaurants in the area. I was here as part of a group of 25, and we had our own room with a limited menu for the dinner. Staff was fine, nothing you'd get thrilled about, but this is the south. Food was typical: rich and plenty of it. The stuffed flounder was very good. I'd probably order a simpler dish next time.

Stopped in for lunch after a ladies conference and it was very enjoyable. I had shrimp gumbo and my friend had gumbo with shrimp cocktail on the side. Very good and it was all seasoned well full of flavor. The bread they serve was warm and delicious with a our gumbo!!!!

The atmosphere, building, staff, management are fantastic, food is avg at best Blow by blow Bread / butter- not even close to good French bread, butter was not that good and salted. For the uninitiated, salter butter is inferior and should only be used for cooking. The salt ruins the taste of really good butter and salting generally means they can keep it on shelf longer so not as fresh. Major faux pas for a French restaurant. If you want to taste good butter try Plus gras or some other European variety of 'artisinal' American variety Gumbo - not that good. Good amt of shrimp and crab in it but too thick (floury?) and worst of all it has a strong taste of dried spice. Nothing ruins food more than dried basil, rosmary, etc McCormick style. Yes it can be used in very limited amts in certain dishes but at a fairly expensive restaurant? Over powers the gumbo and adds an off taste. salad - house dressing OK but too salty and those dry spices!! Stuffed flounder - I almost never get stuffed anything but I made an exception here. The flounder was excellent but the stuffing sucked. Again strong taste of dried spice ruined it. Take that out and its most likely very good. lamb chop appetizer - friends had this but I tasted it. They raved about it and I had to agree, very good. Earned them an extra star I enjoyed the restaurant because of ambiance, service and company. Otherwise I cannot recommend it

Dropped on for lunch, the fried soft shell crabs were wonderful, fresh, lightly coated and fried to perfection. The gumbo was as would be expected; light in color, full of shrimp, crab, white fish and a bold creole base.

This restaurant was suggested by the captains of the Biloxi Shrimping Trip. They gushed about how it was ranked one of the best resuarants in the world and blah blah blah. I don't know what world they were refering to, but by no means is it THIS planet!! Anyways, so after the shrimping trip we ventured down to Mary Mahoneys for lunch. There was a lunch special running: salad, entree and desert (bread pudding or sherbet) for $13.95. I chose the crab cakes and my friend got the snapper bienville. Neither of us liked our entrees or the mushy bread pudding. My crab cakes were full of shell bits and the snapper bienville was in need of seasoning or some sort of flavor. You know really I barely feel like wasting anymore thumb power typing words about this place. It was a big waste of $40... I am being merciful giving this place 2 stars because they have fantastic bread (given free at the beginning of the meal) and sweet tea. That's it. There are MUCH better restaurants in the area. Don't waste your time here. I don't care what loser president or old crusty celebs have eaten at this restaurant.... It's just... Awful.

My server was Orential, and he was very attentive. I got the Shrimp and Lump Crab Meat Melba which was fabulous. At first when my waiter said it was on angel hair pasta, I envisioned a big bowl of pasta with a little seafood on top. Instead, I almost had to search for the pasta, which is fine by me! Mary M's was In a beautiful old historical building that thankfully didn't get pummeled by Katrina. We loved the atmosphere and the waitstaff, but the food wasn't as good as it could be. Maybe it's because we are from Louisiana, but the food wasn't flavorful or well spiced. I liked the Crab Au Gratin, except that a lot of flour is used to be a extender for the cheese. Didn't like that at all. Also, the house dressing, a tomato vinaigrette, was way too acidic.

You'll not regret getting the stuffed snapper! The gumbo was incredible, too! We loved eating here for the last date of our honeymoon on the gulf coast. We even got some of the delicious bread pudding to take over the bridge and eat on Front Beach in Ocean Springs. Yum!

Holy cow this was great. Beside the spectacular mansion/atmosphere, and the attentive & friendly staff, the food was out of this world. I had the shrimp & crab augratin (shrimp & crabmeat in a cream sauce served in conquille with cheese topping)....seriously the best thing I've ever eaten. Period. I wanted to lick the plate clean. Very good establishment and a staple of Biloxi. You know you are close to New Orleans as this place has the overall NOLA atmosphere. Had reservations with a group so we were seated quickly. The owner is a great guy who will visit your table, crack some good clean jokes, and cares about the service you receive. Started was the soup, a seafood gumbo. I found this to be average with just a tad too much salt for my liking. Keep in mind folks I do not like salt at all, so your taste may differ. Next, salad. Nothing special here, just a salad. Ok, service was a couple stars followed by average, so where are the other to equal 4? I have two dinner words for you. "STUFFED SNAPPER"! Rich, southern, and outstanding! Fresh snapper, stuffed with blue crab and shrimp and lots of it! Add to this a rich cream sauce! With asparagus and a rice side you cannot go wrong. When back in Biloxi, I will be back here!

Had an amazing dinner at MM! This is relaxed fine dining so if if you are expecting fine china go to Farradays. But if you want amazing seafood, this is your place!! My hubby got the red snapper cooked to perfection in a flaky crust. His usual is the St Patrick. It comes with a salad, we like the house vinaigrette. I wish the salad was bigger but that is just me. The seasonal veggie today was fresh broccoli. I got the stuffed flounder. Wow!!! It's the full fish, minus the head stuffed with something incredibly delicious. I think it's a blend made with crab meat and seasonings but I don't care at this point because its just good. Now when you eat a whole fish remember the bones! It's been a while since I had a whole fish so I had to get the rhythm of pulling the meat from the spine. You must get the bread pudding with rum for dessert! It's small and topped with a shot of rum!

We decided to take a day trip to d'Iberville and in getting there took the back roads all over creation. The landscape around Wiggins is breathtaking. When we got to Hwy 90 Biloxi, we was hungry! I am a critic. I am critical. I look for things not to like. I like everything 'bout MM's! We split the stuffed flounder,their signature dish (felt just like a tourist, I did) and I savored every last bite. The bread pudding with rum sauce ... OMG. Established in the 1700s, featured in John Grisham novels, and visited by celebrities and politicians whenever they're in the Gulf, Mary Mahoney's is an institution. But being an institution, it is able to get by by relying on its fame and historical significance, as the food here to my mind is really nothing that spectacular. This is a place one should go to to be able to say that they've been there. But if the measure of a good place is someplace that you'd want to eat at often, then Mary Mahoney's falls short. The service is good and the seafood is fresh, but the flavors are a tad off for my liking. Perhaps the recipes used hark back to a palate of another era. If you do want to try it out, go during lunch instead of dinner, as dinner prices are markedly more expensive than lunch prices.

Thank you for keeping the balance. I was lucky enough to pay for the 100+ dinner and seated in the back at a folding table and mismatched plastic patio chairs on an uneven floor. When all excited expectations failed miserably I realized the mission was togetherness with my wife for valentines. Despite that robbed feeling in my stomach my wife and I talked and enjoyed each others company through out the night ignoring the waiter that posted himself beside our table trying to make us leave without actually saying get out.

Inexplicably idiosyncratic--like most of Biloxi, I have to say. Lovable even amidst its wrinkles. Somehow it seems like a faded southern belle still waiting at the cotillion, watching for her Rhett Butler to sweep her away. But Rhett has eyes on the younger generation--probably a SMU co-ed. MMs has the look and feel of what probably constituted fine dining back in the 1950s. But today it just seems kind of old-hat, which is made all the more bizarre since this place was clobbered by Katrina, largely rebuilt and yet never bothered to spruce up its xeroxed menu or those leprechaun suits that its wait staff has to wear. Why not a nice menu on cardboard stock, at least, instead of laminate? What about letting the servers don black? Frankly, the overall presentation reminds me a bit of the Court of Two Sisters in New Orleans, which also looks very nice even if the parts don't add up. Fortunately, the food at Mary Mahoney's is many notches above the aforementioned Big Easy flop that the locals gave up on years ago. MM's still delivers very capable dishes if for a somewhat steep price. I couldn't tell if the "gravy" that the crab cakes rested in was nothing more than creme of mushroom soup, but it definitely harmonized with the already lovingly prepared cakes. They were memorable. And my dinner partner enjoyed her bread pudding, which I recall having a sort peculiar yet hardly unpleasant egg-nog taste. I'm usually one to champion the underdog if I can tell it is putting in a worthy effort, and this seems to be--which is why I'm giving it 4 even though it's more of 3.5 star establishment. But the parts don't add up, and what stands as a merely highly capable old-world restaurant could use an extreme makeover...just as it would appear most of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is receiving. After Katrina, it has little other choice.

I have been here many times, but I was out of town for a while to start 2014. Somehow on St. Patricks Day weekend I ended up here. First off I arrived early for my reservation. But the parking lot was so full of people that parked for the parade that I couldn't get a park. Therefore I had to park a few blocks away. When I got inside the hostess hospitality was .5 out of 10. Basically to the point that I probably will not return. Our waitress was A1 and she is the reason that I'm giving this place 2 stars. I was told that they didn't have any crab claws....but the ocean and fisherman are just across the street lol. They really need to do better rather they realize it or not.

Foggy plastic salad bowls. Tiny tables with cheap uncomfortable chairs that look as if they once furnished an Arbys. The food was very expensive for the quality, nothing was fresh, all seafood was frozen, and their world famous Bread Pudding with rum sauce was at least 4 days old. The "history" of this place is bloated and as far as I can tell, it is the only thing keeping this place afloat. Don't go here, go to a casino buffet instead, and get free drinks at the poker table. You'll have a much better time.

I've been to this historic establishment twice now: once for dinner and once for lunch. The dinner specials are superb and deserve a five star rating . I had the stuffed lobster. Our senior waiter (who had been working there for thirty years) warned me that it was filled with mostly shrimp, crab, and not that much actual lobster, but I insisted upon it anyway. I was not disappointed. He seemed surprised I ate the whole thing. Little did he know that I walk beaches all day! For an appetizer, I definitely recommend escargot as well. It was amazing and served with a healthy Creole tomato sauce. I probably had dessert too, but I was so satisfied by the stuffed lobster that I can't remember what it was. Lunch was a completely different story. While the service was five star, the food itself was about average. I ordered a tuna steak (cooked rare) with a side of mixed vegetables and crawfish etouffee spaghetti. The etouffee wasn't bad, and it was interesting to have it on a pile of spaghetti. The tuna wasn't up to expectations. It just didn't taste very fresh. I have high standards for tuna since I eat it at sushi bars and seafood restaurants all along the Mississippi gulf coast. This tuna steak, however, was definitely not sushi grade, as the server claimed. It was bland and didn't have that fresh, watery taste that most rare tuna would have. I would avoid the lunch menu and stick to the big ticket items in the future, if money isn't an issue.

My wife's favorite place. The food here is wonderful! Try the crab claws for an appetizer and make sure you dip your bread in the sauce. Order the prime rib as an entree, and have some bread pudding for desert. If you want a romantic setting, sit in the dimly lit area to the right as you walk in. Perfect for candlelight dining. Although it is situated in the heart of Biloxi's Casino Row, Mary Mahoney's caters more to locals than to tourists, and little about the restaurant--or the menu--has changed over the years. There is a courtyard entry way, a full service bar with small dining rooms nearby (the remains of old slave quarters), and a pleasant, mildly elegant dining room with glass walls looking out into the city's small historic district. Other rooms are available for large parties. The menu is classic surf and turf with lots of crab-based dishes. I could do without the canned green beans on the side, and some complain that the kitchen has a heavy hand with sage, but on the whole everything is well prepared and the service is good. Always get the bread pudding: it is memorable.

Took two clients to dinner last night. Service was not good, and food was below average for three of us. I ordered Rack of Lamb, with mint jelly. On menu stated they had mint jelly. Asked waiter if they had it; and he verified that they did nave mint jelly. They cooked and served Lamb, and the waiter said they did NOT have mint jelly. I asked for baked potato; and did not get that, stuffed potato instead, which was dry and gummy. Talked to Manager, and he did NOTHING. Only offered dessert. this place is Horrible!!!!!!!! The food has no taste. once we were given our food, we did not see our waitress for 20-30 mins. by that time we all ran out of water and no one came to refill. The reason that I am giving this establishment two stars is because the taste is simply not worth the price. I was very excited when walking up to the restaurant because it is set in a building that looks as if it used to be an inn of some sort - very quaint. It now has various shops and businesses. I sat at the bar because I was dining alone. The bartender was very helpful and gave great service. The wine-by-the-glass menu was comparable to other restaurants of this caliber, and I was satisfied with the red zinfandel that I ordered. For dinner, I ordered the six ounce filet mignon topped with lump crab meat. This is where I am forced to give this restaurant two stars. For a $39 filet, it lacked flavor. It was soaked with beef stock, which I don't particularly care for. It was cooked properly, however I wish I would have asked them to sear it because the texture was a bit too rubbery for me. I simply feel as though the price was too high for the product. I ordered the chocolate cake for dessert - it was very good. I was craving chocolate, and I got exactly what I wanted - - a mouth full of warm, rich, moist chocolate cake. Overall, I would have to say that I cannot recommend this restaurant for dinner - I can, however, recommend it for a cocktail or glass of wine. I enjoyed the pub like bar atmosphere - at the bar of course.

This place is crazyy. Historical. The building was built in 1736, they got a 2000 year old tree in the middle of the garden/pond area outside. The food is awesome and moderately priced. Got the fish of the day which was a lemon fish. Some of the best fish i ever did have! Came with some anglehair pasta topped with crawfish ettouffe. Also had the gumbo. I was told this used to be a great place, but that the chef's had changed and it had gone down hill. I wanted to try it for myself - should have listened to the locals. **Keep in mind this is supposed to be a Fine Dining establishment. Service: Sat at bar. Bartender was wearing jeans. I got my own menu since I wasn't offered one. My order was brusquely taken about 10 minutes later. When I asked if she could make a pomegranate martini, I received a stiff no. All of my food and drinks were served without practically any pleasantries. When I asked for her recommendations, she rudely told me the specials were on the left part of the menu. It was made perfectly clear that I was not welcome at the bar. Food: Disgusting. It started with a dinner salad. It was iceberg lettuce with a few sprigs of spring mix tossed in. I should have cancelled my order then.I ordered the Veal Antonio. It was described as having a special cheese blend and topped with lump crab meat. The "special cheese" blend was a prepackaged shredded cheddar cheese mix. The veal was mushy. The crab had no flavor and there were so many shells in it, I finally just gave up trying to eat my dinner and ate the bread. The bread was the only thing of note. It was perfectly seasoned garlic bread, not crusty, but delicate and light. When the bartender asked me if I wanted a box and I told her no, she seemed surprised. (Over a third of the food was still on it.) I told her it was full of shells and she said yes, it was. I do not expect shells in my food at a Fine Dining establishment, and I certainly don't expect a server to tell me that is the norm. Most restaurants would immediately take it off the bill. This awful experience cost a staggering $50. Stick to Ruth's Chris in Biloxi, it's the only decent place I've found.

I am not one to give five stars to ANYONE, but Mahoney's really deserves it. Food is the best along the entire Gulf Coast, outside of New Orleans. The prices are reasonable, the wine list is uncomplicated and affordable, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I make the trek to Mahoney's at least 4 times a year, and it is a 110 mile drive from Orange Beach. I have taken a number of customers here as well, and they all rave about it. Skip all the restaurants at the casinos, including the Ruths Chris at Hard Rock (even though it is one of the best Ruths I've been to). Mahoneys is a treat that you won't forget. The atmosphere is just icing on the cake.

Came here after seeing the positive reviews on Yelp. We made reservations on their website and were seated promptly for a Saturday lunch. Our seats were in the back of the place on a patio overlooking a beautiful garden. The lunch menu is probably a lot more simple than dinner. I didn't see any steaks, but plenty of seafood items. I started off with some gumbo. Now keep in mind that I don't have a ton of experience eating cajun/creole food. So I may not be the best judge in the world here. But the gumbo was pretty good. It was smooth and rich, but not terribly spicy. Let's just say that it disappeared pretty quick! Lunch items come with a simple salad. I thought it was too simple. Just lettuce and tomato and dressing. There was really nothing wrong with it, I just was expecting a little more I guess. My entree was crawfish etouffee. Again, I'm a virgin with both the cuisine and the crawfish for that matter. I thought the portion size looked small, but there was certainly enough. It had that beautiful reddish color. The flavors were deep, rich and complex. I truly enjoyed every bite. My wife ordered a fish (flounder I think) stuffed with crab and shrimp. This may be a signature item of theirs, and it shows. Broiled perfectly and delicious. As a side vegetable they served green beans and corn. I was perhaps most disappointed with this. They were fairly cold and tasted almost like they were from a can. The beans had some onion and pieces of ham, but were otherwise flavorless and boring. At the end of the meal our waiter asked if I wanted dessert. I declined, only to learn that they are included free with lunch. So I decided to try the bread pudding. Oh my! The pudding itself was warm with just a touch of liquor of some kind. The sweet sauce on top was delicious. Just a sublime dessert. I savored every bite. Certainly a fine way to finish off an overall terrific meal. The service here was prompt yet a little stuffy. I would not say they were overly friendly, yet got the job done. Also, there is absolutely no noticeable evidence of hurricane damage (other than the high water mark written on the wall in the bar and some frightening photos). If you're staying at the Beau Rivage or Hard Rock, this place is an easy walk, almost across the street. Their prices are on par with the fine dining options you'd find at these casinos. So why not escape the noise and smoke and head over here?

The best Surf n Turf! Excellent, gigantic lobster and a petite fillet mignon so tender I didn't use my knife. Great service and a wonderful atmosphere. Very cool old historical building as well. I can't recommend Mary Mahoney's highly enough.

My mother loves this place ( gets me .. Ahistoric landmark MM's is one of Biloxi's best seafood restaurants. MM's is a family owned restaurant whose owner and proprietor is on site most nights and is a wonderful host and entertainer. While the fish is superb, MM' is best known for their gumbo. I have tried both the seafood and crab and both were cooked perfectly. While the service is excellent be ready to come out of pocket as it is quite pricey. Mary M's is a converted 1737 home with a rich history and has hosted many of the Coast's most notable guests. Mississippi native and author John Grisham has mentioned MM in two of his novels and I agree with Kerstin M., MM's service is fantastic.

The atmosphere is soothing. Very casual for a fine dining experience. The history of the grounds take you back in time. The old oak trees, the wooden floors, paintings, fireplace, the old brick ovens, the attire of the servers. They have the most delicious steak served with a fried onion ring on top. Move over Ruth's Chris. The crab au gratin is to die for. And the bread served is amazing. It has a sandy texture and is soft inside and is always served hot. This is still one of my favorite places I've ever eaten and being from New Orleans I've compared it to many places. I have not been since Hurricane Katrina hit but I have fond memories of this place.

I'm not sure what the previous reviewer meant by "messed up" because when my husband and I ate there around Christmas 2007, it was absolutely fantastic. Clearly Mary Mahoney's focuses on seafood, and since I had already had my fill staying with Hubby's parents, I decided to go for the steak- it was a perfect medium rare. Even the baked potato was the best I've ever had- it was almost creamy, somehow, and yet it was just a potato- not a twice baked one. The bread was outrageous- so crusty and buttery, we could hardly stop eating it. Hubby had a crab and mushroom casserole- he loved it, but it was also so incredibly rich, he could not finish it. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant, even though evidence of the pain of Hurricane Katrina was everywhere, including signs indicating how high the waters had been. Mary Mahoney's is a 1737 home with a rich history and is justifiably famous in the area for "fancy" dinner occasions. We did not find it outrageously expensive, but we are DINK foodies, who have certainly paid more for worse food. Apparently, this restaurant and some of its signature dishes have even appeared in two John Grisham novels ("The Runaway Jury" and "The Partner").

It is one of Southern Living's best reviewed restaurants. The atmosphere is hard to beat, while the food and service are unbeatable. The last time I went was on New Year's Eve a couple of years ago.

My husband and I decided to have dinner at Mary Mahoney's on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant is quaint but not spectacular. Our first observation came when we entered the restaurant and stood at the host stand in front of an employee who did not acknowledge our presence. We actually had to ask for assistance. He then told us he was not the host, but the host would come shortly. It seemed rather odd that he didn't retrieve the host to let him know patrons were waiting. It didn't get better when the host came out. He didn't make eye contact and acted as though we were interrupting his meal (he was chewing food when he came to the host stand). He asked "What can I do for you folks?". We told him there would be two for dinner and he then said, "OK. Come on." I was offended by his lack of professionalism and poor manners. We told our server of our concerns, but we never received an apology from the manager or the poorly trained host. Our server tried to make up for the many blunders throughout the evening. The food was good, but at those prices I was expecingt excellent quality. We have dined at many 5 star establishments where each patron is treated wonderfully. I have received better service at Chick-fil-A. The staff could learn a few lessons from Chick-fil-A's customer service techniques. Although I enjoyed the meal, I will never return to this restaurant. I want to be valued as a diner and treated as such.

I have been wanting to come here since we frequent Biloxi often. The atmosphere was adorable. An old french cottage. The service was nice also. We started with escargot. It was so good! They did their own twist on it adding a roux, pasta shells, and spinach. I loved this take on the dish!!! Next the famous gumbo, I am a gumbo snob and very picky about gumbo. They did a great job and weren't cheap on the shrimp! YUMMMM I got the special for the evening,the wahoo. It was cooked a little too much for my liking ( I order Med Rare) but the sides with it were excellent. My fiance' ordered the snapper and OMG it was excellent. We ended with the bread pudding. I didn't like it ( prefer Commander's) but Andrew enjoyed it. Make sure you try their home made thousand island on your salad!

My husband and I stopped in for lunch around 11:30am on a Thursday and were seated immediately. We ordered 1/2 lb crab claws as an appetizer and they were served with both cocktail sauce and tarter sauce. Cook perfectly. Nice size. As my lunch entree, I ordered the baked, stuffed shrimp. To my surprise, it was exceptional. Four shrimp stuffed with a seafood dressing to die for. Lunch specials come with a salad that is served in a cold bowl and a dessert as well. An awful lot of fried foods on the menu of this "upscale" restaurant... I mentioned that to a colleague and he said "Well, it is Gulf Coast seafood," insinuating that Gulf Coast = fried. Yes, this place has history but what I can only assume is the main dining area in the back has all the ambiance of a banquet hall at an off-highway Holiday Inn. The waiters dress appear to harken back to the good old days of Southern hospitality. So, the food. Hmm, w bit pricey in my estimation based on the quality I encountered. I ended up eating the soft shell crabs which had little crab taste due to the overabundance of breading. The other people in my party had a variety of items from the Twin Sisters (described as merely "good") to the scallops (described as "great") and the clam chowder ("good"). Considering the prices paid, I was expecting higher quality and more "greats" from my colleagues. So if you're in Biloxi and you're thinking of seafood, Mary Mahoney's is an acceptable restaurant. However, I'd recommend asking the locals for a recommendation - just disregard if they mention this place because I think it's kind of a default reply.

This place was very good, even considering all of the other good eats on the Gulf Coast. My wife and I went here with her parents (whom live in Gulfport) at their recommendation. They were spot on, as always. The place was a bit crowded, and a little confusing to find the dining area if we weren't with someone who had been there before. The food is great, but it's nicely complimented with nostalgia and charm. The place is nearing 275 years old or so and emits an incredible aura of antiquity. We must've ordered 8 entrees or something between the 4 of us and no way did we finish it all, but that wasn't due to lack of trying! The shining star was the "sisters of the sea", lump crab meat and shrimp in a creamy sauce that lends itself perfectly to my wife's nickname for it... "The Foodgasm". Go here if visiting or a local for a nice occasion. Take it all in... or as much of it as you can!

Open parking, no valet. The dirty martini I had could have been dirtier, but was still good. My waitress was great! friendly and fun. So helpful about my bell pepper allergy! Loved her for that. I had the 12oz ribeye. They mixed my cook temp with my mom's - hers was supposed to be medium and mine was supposed to be mid rare. I was not too strict about it, so I said something, but didn't send it back. it was very good, great crust and seasoning. Potato was baked and noms. Finally made to Mary Mahoneys . It was so charming with an old world feel! We arrived at 11:00 for lunch and were seated immediately. Our server was fun and showed up at the right time without be annoying or patronizing. I had the shrimp and crab augrautin and my son had the filet with betnaise... Five Star service and excellent food in an amazing location. We just moved to the area recently and three days after arriving , I brought my wife here for her birthday. She and I were both very pleased! The ambiance was casual, as you enter in through the bar and are welcomed by mementos from the long and vast history of both the building and restaurant. Our server was attired in a formal green jacket and his presence was always table side when needed but never intrusive. Meal wise the gumbo was a bit brothy but the flavor was the best mix of spices and seafood I have ever had in a bowl of the regional specialty. Our Entree's were both tasty, but the prime rib off the children's menu was incredible and a steal at $9.99. For desert, the Bread was incredibly tasty but very, very small. Don't expect it to be enough for two people to share. Overall pricing was fine for a restaurant of this quality. $140 including tip for 3 people, with appetizer and two deserts.

First time with family and it was above our expectations....Atmosphere,historical...... charming surroundings and beyond friendly, informative staff, especially our waiter,"O" who added a wonderful essence to our dining pleasure. Baked stuffed shrimp....Grilled Yellowfin Tuna, Crabmeat stuffed snapper and Crabmeat and Shrimp Au Gratin....all hot and delicious....savored every morsel. Built about 1733, I this building was the territorial government headquarters for France's Louisiana territory. If you're a visiting tourist interested in history, check it out. It's a decent place for lunch. Our GPS said this address is inaccessible; however, it took us right by the parking lot. Not knowing what we were looking for, we drove by it the first time. Then we came back and parked. We had no trouble seeing it once on foot.

Will preface this review with the fact that I grew up in Louisiana and lived in New Orleans for 25 years so know Creole/Cajun cooking. My husband and I had lunch today. Waited a good 10 minutes before flaginga waiter for help who found ours. service decent after that. My stuffed flounder wason top and the flesh very dried out. Pulled up the bones up and got better if skimpy meat underneath. dressing fine as I love sage. My husbands crawfish etouffee was like nothing i had experienced. a very dark roux with clearly tomatoes included. Rather overpowering for the crawfish which are a delicate taste in roux. also why serve canned green beans and canned corn along with what is purported to be a "fine" meal. Was clearly disappointed and it is a shame because it such a lovely venue.
We always go to Mary Mahoney's when we are in town. We have eaten a lot of the menu items. A must is the award winning gumbo. I am a gumboholic and try out gumbo in many places. This by far is the best. The soft shelled crab is a winner as are the other fishes on the menu. The prime rib is great blackened and you can top it with crab meat. Awesome. They just added shrimp and grits to the menu. The grits are creamy and the shrimp and sauce make this a must try. The bread pudding is wonderful. Service is always excellent. We make it a point to go there when our favorite waiter, Tony, is there. He is great and has been there for years. Our only regret is that we can't go there more often because it is in a different state than where we live.

Save room for desert! Came here for lunch. Not the cheapest place. Roughly $20 per lunch. The food was amazing, though! All 3 of us had different meals. I had the seared snapper. It was delicious! Each meal started with a salad. The garlic rolls were warm and yummy. I was stuffed after I had the last bite of fish. The waiter asked if we wanted desert. He said, "You might as well. It's included!" I was bummed. Couldn't eat any more and had to fly out. All in all good experience. I'd say come here if you are not in a hurry (service wasn't the quickest), have a few bucks to spend, and wand good seafood.

Set in an historical mansion built in the 1700s....kind of an eerie feeling here where you can see the original exposed brick work in some of the dining rooms. Also historical is the southern/Louisiana fare here - cajun, french, creole, seafood to infinity....but very rich! The owner will also visit your table to tell you old stories of days past - lends to a great atmosphere. Huge portions and very rich - save room for dessert! The staff were very friendly here! Made me really feel that southern hospitality is real and lives here - I love that!

This is a really neat historic restaurant. Not sure how long they've been an actual eating place but the bar area is the original 1700s building with the other buildings built in the 1800s and early 1900s im guessing. Amazing atmosphere, good food, great location. This place is so full of history, you can just feel a connection to the past by walking in the door. It is upscale, but for lunch at least, everyone was dressed casually. Our servers were top notch. They had me at the hot bread, butter, and sweet tea! The salad was great. I wasn't overly impressed by my crab & shrimp a gratin, but my husband's stuffed crabs & gumbo was pretty good. Complimentary coffee & bread pudding was nice, but not the best I ever had. Eating on the glass porch & watching the birds and all the old trees was the best part of the meal. Worth a visit!
5 stars, enough said. Everything on the table was amazing. If I ever make it back to Mississippi I will drive here to eat the Au Gratin Appetizer.

There's few places that I really like a lot. This is one of them. Now what to eat? Believe it or not Mahoney has a great prime rib. It is huge. Get it with the twice baked potato. Homemade salad dressing is very good. Although a lot of people like it, I don't like the bread pudding dessert. It has too much of an alcohol taste. My favorite is the broiled flounder. I also don't like the crawfish toffee. but for about $13 you can get a salad, entree and dessert. That's not a bad price.

We hit this 521 year old (or something like that) joint for the first time the other day after living down here for four+ years. First of all, it can be tricky to get into. There are like three-four different ways to get in. If you are a ninja, you could probably drop in from the ceiling, too, so make that four-five. We walked in and found ourselves in the bar and were all like "Um...okay?" There were dudes in polo shirts and boat shoes getting their drank on...but we were there to EAT! We walked past them and up some stairs and found the hostess. Another side note: Don't worry about a dress code. I saw everything from people in suits to flip flops and board shorts. The hostesss had on jeans. I opted to go with no pants. Just my drawers. Kinda weird but I like it. Kidding...trying to see if you are still reading. Anyways we got sat in a room with a brick floor, which we think was an add on sometime in the past. The whole joint is a maze, not one huge dining room. Also, we didn't make reservations so not sure if that is why we got sat where we did but whatever. The chairs were kinda uncomfy and my butt fell asleep. We got the au gratin app and although kinda rich, it was good. We ordered the prime rib and the stuffed snapper. Snapper...say it out loud. Sounds funny. The Prime rib...hmm...I think she was kinda disappointed in it. I tried it and the taste reminded me of the PR my grandpa used to make, which was the bomb. I almost ordered it but I went with the snapper and I am glad I did. I never tried snapper (there is that damn word again) before but I dig it now. It was stuffed with the same stuff that makes up the au gratin app, so just know that going into it. The flavors joined forces for one huge party in my mouth. I wanted to sing to the heavens. And then a fellow in a bright yellow (look at me!) shirt walked by, with said shirt tucked into his underware. Polo underware. I know this because they were hanging out of the back of his pants. I almost whizzed on myself with laughter. To make it better, he walked by twice. Yelpers, if I had my camera out I would have got a pic and posted it with this review, but I missed that op. We were still laughing when we ordered desert...the bread pudding. YOU MUST TRY THAT. Wow. Seriously. So to wrap this visit up...give it a shot. Maybe stick to a signature item on the menu vs. one of the staples like PR. We will be going back for sure.

This is one of the better known, and probably better restaurants in the area. I was here as part of a group of 25, and we had our own room with a limited menu for the dinner. Staff was fine, nothing you'd get thrilled about, but this is the south. Food was typical: rich and plenty of it. The stuffed flounder was very good. I'd probably order a simpler dish next time.

The atmosphere, building, staff, management are fantastic, food is avg at best Blow by blow Bread / butter- not even close to good French bread, butter was not that good and salted. For the uninitiated, salter butter is inferior and should only be used for cooking. The salt ruins the taste of really good butter and salting generally means they can keep it on shelf longer so not as fresh. Major faux pas for a French restaurant. If you want to taste good butter try Plus gras or some other European variety of 'artisinal' American variety Gumbo - not that good. Good amt of shrimp and crab in it but too thick (floury?) and worst of all it has a strong taste of dried spice. Nothing ruins food more than dried basil, rosmary, etc McCormick style. Yes it can be used in very limited amts in certain dishes but at a fairly expensive restaurant? Over powers the gumbo and adds an off taste. salad - house dressing OK but too salty and those dry spices!! Stuffed flounder - I almost never get stuffed anything but I made an exception here. The flounder was excellent but the stuffing sucked. Again strong taste of dried spice ruined it. Take that out and its most likely very good. lamb chop appetizer - friends had this but I tasted it. They raved about it and I had to agree, very good. Earned them an extra star I enjoyed the restaurant because of ambiance, service and company. Otherwise I cannot recommend it

Dropped on for lunch, the fried soft shell crabs were wonderful, fresh, lightly coated and fried to perfection. The gumbo was as would be expected; light in color, full of shrimp, crab, white fish and a bold creole base.

This restaurant was suggested by the captains of the Biloxi Shrimping Trip. They gushed about how it was ranked one of the best resuarants in the world and blah blah blah. I don't know what world they were refering to, but by no means is it THIS planet!! Anyways, so after the shrimping trip we ventured down to Mary Mahoneys for lunch. There was a lunch special running: salad, entree and desert (bread pudding or sherbet) for $13.95. I chose the crab cakes and my friend got the snapper bienville. Neither of us liked our entrees or the mushy bread pudding. My crab cakes were full of shell bits and the snapper bienville was in need of seasoning or some sort of flavor. You know really I barely feel like wasting anymore thumb power typing words about this place. It was a big waste of $40... I am being merciful giving this place 2 stars because they have fantastic bread (given free at the beginning of the meal) and sweet tea. That's it. There are MUCH better restaurants in the area. Don't waste your time here. I don't care what loser president or old crusty celebs have eaten at this restaurant.... It's just... Awful.

My server was Orential, and he was very attentive. I got the Shrimp and Lump Crab Meat Melba which was fabulous. At first when my waiter said it was on angel hair pasta, I envisioned a big bowl of pasta with a little seafood on top. Instead, I almost had to search for the pasta, which is fine by me! Mary M's was In a beautiful old historical building that thankfully didn't get pummeled by Katrina. We loved the atmosphere and the waitstaff, but the food wasn't as good as it could be. Maybe it's because we are from Louisiana, but the food wasn't flavorful or well spiced. I liked the Crab Au Gratin, except that a lot of flour is used to be a extender for the cheese. Didn't like that at all. Also, the house dressing, a tomato vinaigrette, was way too acidic.

You'll not regret getting the stuffed snapper! The gumbo was incredible, too! We loved eating here for the last date of our honeymoon on the gulf coast. We even got some of the delicious bread pudding to take over the bridge and eat on Front Beach in Ocean Springs. Yum!

Holy cow this was great. Beside the spectacular mansion/atmosphere, and the attentive & friendly staff, the food was out of this world. I had the shrimp & crab augratin (shrimp & crabmeat in a cream sauce served in conquille with cheese topping)....seriously the best thing I've ever eaten. Period. I wanted to lick the plate clean. My husband enjoyed the crab cakes (but after trying my dish, wishes he had ordered the augratin) Note: Closed on Sundays.

Very good establishment and a staple of Biloxi. You know you are close to New Orleans as this place has the overall NOLA atmosphere. Had reservations with a group so we were seated quickly. The owner is a great guy who will visit your table, crack some good clean jokes, and cares about the service you receive. Started was the soup, a seafood gumbo. I found this to be average with just a tad too much salt for my liking. Keep in mind folks I do not like salt at all, so your taste may differ. Next, salad. Nothing special here, just a salad. Ok, service was a couple stars followed by average, so where are the other to equal 4? I have two dinner words for you. "STUFFED SNAPPER"! Rich, southern, and outstanding! Fresh snapper, stuffed with blue crab and shrimp and lots of it! Add to this a rich cream sauce! With asparagus and a rice side you cannot go wrong. When back in Biloxi, I will be back here!

Had an amazing dinner at MM! This is relaxed fine dining so if if you are expecting fine china go to Farradays. But if you want amazing seafood, this is your place!! My hubby got the red snapper cooked to perfection in a flaky crust. His usual is the St Patrick. It comes with a salad, we like the house vinaigrette. I wish the salad was bigger but that is just me. The seasonal veggie today was fresh broccoli. I got the stuffed flounder. Wow!!! It's the full fish, minus the head stuffed with something incredibly delicious. I think it's a blend made with crab meat and seasonings but I don't care at this point because its just good. Now when you eat a whole fish remember the bones! It's been a while since I had a whole fish so I had to get the rhythm of pulling the meat from the spine. You must get the bread pudding with rum for dessert! It's small and topped with a shot of rum!

We decided to take a day trip to d'Iberville and in getting there took the back roads all over creation. The landscape around Wiggins is breathtaking. When we got to Hwy 90 Biloxi, we was hungry! I am a critic. I am critical. I look for things not to like. I like everything 'bout MM's! We split the stuffed flounder,their signature dish (felt just like a tourist, I did) and I savored every last bite. The bread pudding with rum sauce ... OMG. Established in the 1700s, featured in John Grisham novels, and visited by celebrities and politicians whenever they're in the Gulf, Mary Mahoney's is an institution. But being an institution, it is able to get by by relying on its fame and historical significance, as the food here to my mind is really nothing that spectacular. This is a place one should go to to be able to say that they've been there. But if the measure of a good place is someplace that you'd want to eat at often, then Mary Mahoney's falls short. The service is good and the seafood is fresh, but the flavors are a tad off for my liking. Perhaps the recipes used hark back to a palate of another era. If you do want to try it out, go during lunch instead of dinner, as dinner prices are markedly more expensive than lunch prices.

Thank you for keeping the balance. I was lucky enough to pay for the 100+ dinner and seated in the back at a folding table and mismatched plastic patio chairs on an uneven floor. When all excited expectations failed miserably I realized the mission was togetherness with my wife for valentines. Despite that robbed feeling in my stomach my wife and I talked and enjoyed each others company through out the night ignoring the waiter that posted himself beside our table trying to make us leave without actually saying get out.

Inexplicably idiosyncratic--like most of Biloxi, I have to say. Lovable even amidst its wrinkles. Somehow it seems like a faded southern belle still waiting at the cotillion, watching for her Rhett Butler to sweep her away. But Rhett has eyes on the younger generation--probably a SMU co-ed. MMs has the look and feel of what probably constituted fine dining back in the 1950s. But today it just seems kind of old-hat, which is made all the more bizarre since this place was clobbered by Katrina, largely rebuilt and yet never bothered to spruce up its xeroxed menu or those leprechaun suits that its wait staff has to wear. Why not a nice menu on cardboard stock, at least, instead of laminate? What about letting the servers don black? Frankly, the overall presentation reminds me a bit of the Court of Two Sisters in New Orleans, which also looks very nice even if the parts don't add up. Fortunately, the food at Mary Mahoney's is many notches above the aforementioned Big Easy flop that the locals gave up on years ago. MM's still delivers very capable dishes if for a somewhat steep price. I couldn't tell if the "gravy" that the crab cakes rested in was nothing more than creme of mushroom soup, but it definitely harmonized with the already lovingly prepared cakes. They were memorable. And my dinner partner enjoyed her bread pudding, which I recall having a sort peculiar yet hardly unpleasant egg-nog taste. I'm usually one to champion the underdog if I can tell it is putting in a worthy effort, and this seems to be--which is why I'm giving it 4 even though it's more of 3.5 star establishment. But the parts don't add up, and what stands as a merely highly capable old-world restaurant could use an extreme makeover...just as it would appear most of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is receiving. After Katrina, it has little other choice.

I have been here many times, but I was out of town for a while to start 2014. Somehow on St. Patricks Day weekend I ended up here. First off I arrived early for my reservation. But the parking lot was so full of people that parked for the parade that I couldn't get a park. Therefore I had to park a few blocks away. When I got inside the hostess hospitality was .5 out of 10. Basically to the point that I probably will not return. Our waitress was A1 and she is the reason that I'm giving this place 2 stars. I was told that they didn't have any crab claws....but the ocean and fisherman are just across the street lol. They really need to do better rather they realize it or not.

Foggy plastic salad bowls. Tiny tables with cheap uncomfortable chairs that look as if they once furnished an Arbys. The food was very expensive for the quality, nothing was fresh, all seafood was frozen, and their world famous Bread Pudding with rum sauce was at least 4 days old. The "history" of this place is bloated and as far as I can tell, it is the only thing keeping this place afloat. Don't go here, go to a casino buffet instead, and get free drinks at the poker table. You'll have a much better time.

Do not be fooled this is NOT a French Restaurant. Do be fooled by its tasty goodness. Great seafood and elegant place with a lot of history that you do want to take family and friends. Stuffed snapper was delicious and the bread is very flaky just like Grandma's biscuits. About $30 a plate give or take $5 for those who want something top notch. Hnads down the best dinner experience in Biloxi.

I've been to this historic establishment twice now: once for dinner and once for lunch. The dinner specials are superb and deserve a five star rating . I had the stuffed lobster. Our senior waiter (who had been working there for thirty years) warned me that it was filled with mostly shrimp, crab, and not that much actual lobster, but I insisted upon it anyway. I was not disappointed. He seemed surprised I ate the whole thing. Little did he know that I walk beaches all day! For an appetizer, I definitely recommend escargot as well. It was amazing and served with a healthy Creole tomato sauce. I probably had dessert too, but I was so satisfied by the stuffed lobster that I can't remember what it was. Lunch was a completely different story. While the service was five star, the food itself was about average. I ordered a tuna steak (cooked rare) with a side of mixed vegetables and crawfish etouffee spaghetti. The etouffee wasn't bad, and it was interesting to have it on a pile of spaghetti. The tuna wasn't up to expectations. It just didn't taste very fresh. I have high standards for tuna since I eat it at sushi bars and seafood restaurants all along the Mississippi gulf coast. This tuna steak, however, was definitely not sushi grade, as the server claimed. It was bland and didn't have that fresh, watery taste that most rare tuna would have. I would avoid the lunch menu and stick to the big ticket items in the future, if money isn't an issue.

My wife's favorite place. The food here is wonderful! Try the crab claws for an appetizer and make sure you dip your bread in the sauce. Order the prime rib as an entree, and have some bread pudding for desert. If you want a romantic setting, sit in the dimly lit area to the right as you walk in. Perfect for candlelight dining. The staff is wonderful too. A staple to Biloxi.

Although it is situated in the heart of Biloxi's Casino Row, Mary Mahoney's caters more to locals than to tourists, and little about the restaurant--or the menu--has changed over the years. There is a courtyard entry way, a full service bar with small dining rooms nearby (the remains of old slave quarters), and a pleasant, mildly elegant dining room with glass walls looking out into the city's small historic district. Other rooms are available for large parties. The menu is classic surf and turf with lots of crab-based dishes. I could do without the canned green beans on the side, and some complain that the kitchen has a heavy hand with sage, but on the whole everything is well prepared and the service is good. Always get the bread pudding: it is memorable.

Took two clients to dinner last night. Service was not good, and food was below average for three of us. I ordered Rack of Lamb, with mint jelly. On menu stated they had mint jelly. Asked waiter if they had it; and he verified that they did nave mint jelly. They cooked and served Lamb, and the waiter said they did NOT have mint jelly. I asked for baked potato; and did not get that, stuffed potato instead, which was dry and gummy. Talked to Manager, and he did NOTHING. Only offered dessert. The management of this restaurant is not concerned with customer service. I have going here for 15 years; and will NEVER return..

this place is Horrible!!!!!!!! The food has no taste. once we were given our food, we did not see our waitress for 20-30 mins. by that time we all ran out of water and no one came to refill. The reason that I am giving this establishment two stars is because the taste is simply not worth the price. I was very excited when walking up to the restaurant because it is set in a building that looks as if it used to be an inn of some sort - very quaint. It now has various shops and businesses. I sat at the bar because I was dining alone. The bartender was very helpful and gave great service. The wine-by-the-glass menu was comparable to other restaurants of this caliber, and I was satisfied with the red zinfandel that I ordered. For dinner, I ordered the six ounce filet mignon topped with lump crab meat. This is where I am forced to give this restaurant two stars. For a $39 filet, it lacked flavor. It was soaked with beef stock, which I don't particularly care for. It was cooked properly, however I wish I would have asked them to sear it because the texture was a bit too rubbery for me. I simply feel as though the price was too high for the product. I ordered the chocolate cake for dessert - it was very good. I was craving chocolate, and I got exactly what I wanted - - a mouth full of warm, rich, moist chocolate cake. Overall, I would have to say that I cannot recommend this restaurant for dinner - I can, however, recommend it for a cocktail or glass of wine. I enjoyed the pub like bar atmosphere - at the bar of course.

This place is crazyy. Historical. The building was built in 1736, they got a 2000 year old tree in the middle of the garden/pond area outside. The food is awesome and moderately priced. Got the fish of the day which was a lemon fish. Some of the best fish i ever did have! Came with some anglehair pasta topped with crawfish ettouffe. Also had the gumbo. They do know how to make some southern cookin! nice winelist and not too bad on prices either. Centrally located with a huge parking lot!

I was told this used to be a great place, but that the chef's had changed and it had gone down hill. I wanted to try it for myself - should have listened to the locals. **Keep in mind this is supposed to be a Fine Dining establishment. Service: Sat at bar. Bartender was wearing jeans. I got my own menu since I wasn't offered one. My order was brusquely taken about 10 minutes later. When I asked if she could make a pomegranate martini, I received a stiff no. All of my food and drinks were served without practically any pleasantries. When I asked for her recommendations, she rudely told me the specials were on the left part of the menu. It was made perfectly clear that I was not welcome at the bar. Food: Disgusting. It started with a dinner salad. It was iceberg lettuce with a few sprigs of spring mix tossed in. I should have cancelled my order then.I ordered the Veal Antonio. It was described as having a special cheese blend and topped with lump crab meat. The "special cheese" blend was a prepackaged shredded cheddar cheese mix. The veal was mushy. The crab had no flavor and there were so many shells in it, I finally just gave up trying to eat my dinner and ate the bread. The bread was the only thing of note. It was perfectly seasoned garlic bread, not crusty, but delicate and light. When the bartender asked me if I wanted a box and I told her no, she seemed surprised. (Over a third of the food was still on it.) I told her it was full of shells and she said yes, it was. I do not expect shells in my food at a Fine Dining establishment, and I certainly don't expect a server to tell me that is the norm. Most restaurants would immediately take it off the bill. This awful experience cost a staggering $50. Stick to Ruth's Chris in Biloxi, it's the only decent place I've found.

We went for lunch and seem to get the same size portion for a fraction of the cost. I love the baked stuffed shrimp and fresh bread. Lunch comes with free bread pudding and I love the rum sauce!!!

I am not one to give five stars to ANYONE, but Mahoney's really deserves it. Food is the best along the entire Gulf Coast, outside of New Orleans. The prices are reasonable, the wine list is uncomplicated and affordable, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I make the trek to Mahoney's at least 4 times a year, and it is a 110 mile drive from Orange Beach. I have taken a number of customers here as well, and they all rave about it. Skip all the restaurants at the casinos, including the Ruths Chris at Hard Rock (even though it is one of the best Ruths I've been to). Mahoneys is a treat that you won't forget. The atmosphere is just icing on the cake.

Came here after seeing the positive reviews on Yelp. We made reservations on their website and were seated promptly for a Saturday lunch. Our seats were in the back of the place on a patio overlooking a beautiful garden. The lunch menu is probably a lot more simple than dinner. I didn't see any steaks, but plenty of seafood items. I started off with some gumbo. Now keep in mind that I don't have a ton of experience eating cajun/creole food. So I may not be the best judge in the world here. But the gumbo was pretty good. It was smooth and rich, but not terribly spicy. Let's just say that it disappeared pretty quick! Lunch items come with a simple salad. I thought it was too simple. Just lettuce and tomato and dressing. There was really nothing wrong with it, I just was expecting a little more I guess. My entree was crawfish etouffee. Again, I'm a virgin with both the cuisine and the crawfish for that matter. I thought the portion size looked small, but there was certainly enough. It had that beautiful reddish color. The flavors were deep, rich and complex. I truly enjoyed every bite. My wife ordered a fish (flounder I think) stuffed with crab and shrimp. This may be a signature item of theirs, and it shows. Broiled perfectly and delicious. As a side vegetable they served green beans and corn. I was perhaps most disappointed with this. They were fairly cold and tasted almost like they were from a can. The beans had some onion and pieces of ham, but were otherwise flavorless and boring. At the end of the meal our waiter asked if I wanted dessert. I declined, only to learn that they are included free with lunch. So I decided to try the bread pudding. Oh my! The pudding itself was warm with just a touch of liquor of some kind. The sweet sauce on top was delicious. Just a sublime dessert. I savored every bite. Certainly a fine way to finish off an overall terrific meal. The service here was prompt yet a little stuffy. I would not say they were overly friendly, yet got the job done. Also, there is absolutely no noticeable evidence of hurricane damage (other than the high water mark written on the wall in the bar and some frightening photos). If you're staying at the Beau Rivage or Hard Rock, this place is an easy walk, almost across the street. Their prices are on par with the fine dining options you'd find at these casinos. So why not escape the noise and smoke and head over here?

My mother loves this place ( gets me .. Ahistoric landmark MM's is one of Biloxi's best seafood restaurants. MM's is a family owned restaurant whose owner and proprietor is on site most nights and is a wonderful host and entertainer. While the fish is superb, MM' is best known for their gumbo. I have tried both the seafood and crab and both were cooked perfectly. While the service is excellent be ready to come out of pocket as it is quite pricey. Mary M's is a converted 1737 home with a rich history and has hosted many of the Coast's most notable guests. Mississippi native and author John Grisham has mentioned MM in two of his novels and I agree with Kerstin M., MM's service is fantastic.

The atmosphere is soothing. Very casual for a fine dining experience. The history of the grounds take you back in time. The old oak trees, the wooden floors, paintings, fireplace, the old brick ovens, the attire of the servers. They have the most delicious steak served with a fried onion ring on top. Move over Ruth's Chris. The crab au gratin is to die for. And the bread served is amazing. It has a sandy texture and is soft inside and is always served hot. This is still one of my favorite places I've ever eaten and being from New Orleans I've compared it to many places. I have not been since Hurricane Katrina hit but I have fond memories of this place.

I'm not sure what the previous reviewer meant by "messed up" because when my husband and I ate there around Christmas 2007, it was absolutely fantastic. Clearly Mary Mahoney's focuses on seafood, and since I had already had my fill staying with Hubby's parents, I decided to go for the steak- it was a perfect medium rare. Even the baked potato was the best I've ever had- it was almost creamy, somehow, and yet it was just a potato- not a twice baked one. The bread was outrageous- so crusty and buttery, we could hardly stop eating it. Hubby had a crab and mushroom casserole- he loved it, but it was also so incredibly rich, he could not finish it. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant, even though evidence of the pain of Hurricane Katrina was everywhere, including signs indicating how high the waters had been. Mary Mahoney's is a 1737 home with a rich history and is justifiably famous in the area for "fancy" dinner occasions. We did not find it outrageously expensive, but we are DINK foodies, who have certainly paid more for worse food. Apparently, this restaurant and some of its signature dishes have even appeared in two John Grisham novels ("The Runaway Jury" and "The Partner").

It is one of Southern Living's best reviewed restaurants. The atmosphere is hard to beat, while the food and service are unbeatable. The last time I went was on New Year's Eve a couple of years ago.

My husband and I decided to have dinner at Mary Mahoney's on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant is quaint but not spectacular. Our first observation came when we entered the restaurant and stood at the host stand in front of an employee who did not acknowledge our presence. We actually had to ask for assistance. He then told us he was not the host, but the host would come shortly. It seemed rather odd that he didn't retrieve the host to let him know patrons were waiting. It didn't get better when the host came out. He didn't make eye contact and acted as though we were interrupting his meal (he was chewing food when he came to the host stand). He asked "What can I do for you folks?". We told him there would be two for dinner and he then said, "OK. Come on." I was offended by his lack of professionalism and poor manners. We told our server of our concerns, but we never received an apology from the manager or the poorly trained host. Our server tried to make up for the many blunders throughout the evening. The food was good, but at those prices I was expecingt excellent quality. We have dined at many 5 star establishments where each patron is treated wonderfully. I have received better service at Chick-fil-A. The staff could learn a few lessons from Chick-fil-A's customer service techniques. Although I enjoyed the meal, I will never return to this restaurant. I want to be valued as a diner and treated as such.

The nicest atmosphere, food and service in Biloxi. Unlike nearby casinos, Mary's offers a quaint but gourmet experience. The courtyard and small dining rooms give a much more intimate feel and their staff thoroughly provides true southern hospitality.

Several weeks ago, I joined 11 other co-workers for dinner at this precious French Cottage on the Gulf Coast! We shared a couple of Presidential Platters featuring sautéed crab claws and small fried soft shell crabs. One of the platters had fried crab claws served with cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. Both offerings were wonderful! Our party ordered everything from filet mignon topped with crabmeat to the daily fish special. Everyone at the table LOVED their meal. Yes you can order southern fried seafood or stuffed flounder or steak. There is something to please everyone's personal taste. We skipped dessert because of the generous servings but I can only imagine how wonderful they are! Maybe next time! Mary Mahoney's has a nice wine selection and full bar. Service was great! It is located directly across from the Hard Rock and Beau Rivage for your convenience if you are staying on the Coast.

I have been wanting to come here since we frequent Biloxi often. The atmosphere was adorable. An old french cottage. The service was nice also. We started with escargot. It was so good! They did their own twist on it adding a roux, pasta shells, and spinach. I loved this take on the dish!!! Next the famous gumbo, I am a gumbo snob and very picky about gumbo. They did a great job and weren't cheap on the shrimp! YUMMMM I got the special for the evening,the wahoo. It was cooked a little too much for my liking ( I order Med Rare) but the sides with it were excellent. My fiance' ordered the snapper and OMG it was excellent. We ended with the bread pudding. I didn't like it ( prefer Commander's) but Andrew enjoyed it. Make sure you try their home made thousand island on your salad!

My husband and I stopped in for lunch around 11:30am on a Thursday and were seated immediately. We ordered 1/2 lb crab claws as an appetizer and they were served with both cocktail sauce and tarter sauce. Cook perfectly. Nice size. As my lunch entree, I ordered the baked, stuffed shrimp. To my surprise, it was exceptional. Four shrimp stuffed with a seafood dressing to die for. Lunch specials come with a salad that is served in a cold bowl and a dessert as well. I chose the bread pudding for dessert with bourbon sauce. This place never disappoints!

An awful lot of fried foods on the menu of this "upscale" restaurant... I mentioned that to a colleague and he said "Well, it is Gulf Coast seafood," insinuating that Gulf Coast = fried. Yes, this place has history but what I can only assume is the main dining area in the back has all the ambiance of a banquet hall at an off-highway Holiday Inn. The waiters dress appear to harken back to the good old days of Southern hospitality. So, the food. Hmm, w bit pricey in my estimation based on the quality I encountered. I ended up eating the soft shell crabs which had little crab taste due to the overabundance of breading. The other people in my party had a variety of items from the Twin Sisters (described as merely "good") to the scallops (described as "great") and the clam chowder ("good"). Considering the prices paid, I was expecting higher quality and more "greats" from my colleagues. So if you're in Biloxi and you're thinking of seafood, Mary Mahoney's is an acceptable restaurant. However, I'd recommend asking the locals for a recommendation - just disregard if they mention this place because I think it's kind of a default reply.

Be sure to check out the amazing pictures that were taken during and immediately after Hurricane Katrina. A must see if you ever make it to Biloxi! Soft shells crabs, gumbo and broiled crab claws are spectacular! Pricey but food is very high quality and worth the money!

This place was very good, even considering all of the other good eats on the Gulf Coast. My wife and I went here with her parents (whom live in Gulfport) at their recommendation. They were spot on, as always. The place was a bit crowded, and a little confusing to find the dining area if we weren't with someone who had been there before. The food is great, but it's nicely complimented with nostalgia and charm. The place is nearing 275 years old or so and emits an incredible aura of antiquity. We must've ordered 8 entrees or something between the 4 of us and no way did we finish it all, but that wasn't due to lack of trying! The shining star was the "sisters of the sea", lump crab meat and shrimp in a creamy sauce that lends itself perfectly to my wife's nickname for it... "The Foodgasm". Go here if visiting or a local for a nice occasion. Take it all in... or as much of it as you can!

Open parking, no valet. The dirty martini I had could have been dirtier, but was still good. My waitress was great! friendly and fun. So helpful about my bell pepper allergy! Loved her for that. I had the 12oz ribeye. They mixed my cook temp with my mom's - hers was supposed to be medium and mine was supposed to be mid rare. I was not too strict about it, so I said something, but didn't send it back. it was very good, great crust and seasoning. Potato was baked and noms. The bread pudding was the perfect amount for us to each get 2 bites. So noms. No complaints. It was exactly what I expected and service was great.

Finally made to Mary Mahoneys . It was so charming with an old world feel! We arrived at 11:00 for lunch and were seated immediately. Our server was fun and showed up at the right time without be annoying or patronizing. I had the shrimp and crab augrautin and my son had the filet with betnaise... Cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. Stuffed potatoes and salad was equally delicious, simply done. The bread was light and airy and crusty ! Again simple yet delicious! I was so full I didn't think to get our dessert to go- won't make that mistake the next time I visit! All in all a great meal and friendly professional service! My new favorite when we are in Biloxi!

Five Star service and excellent food in an amazing location. We just moved to the area recently and three days after arriving , I brought my wife here for her birthday. She and I were both very pleased! The ambiance was casual, as you enter in through the bar and are welcomed by mementos from the long and vast history of both the building and restaurant. Our server was attired in a formal green jacket and his presence was always table side when needed but never intrusive. Meal wise the gumbo was a bit brothy but the flavor was the best mix of spices and seafood I have ever had in a bowl of the regional specialty. Our Entree's were both tasty, but the prime rib off the children's menu was incredible and a steal at $9.99. For desert, the Bread was incredibly tasty but very, very small. Don't expect it to be enough for two people to share. Overall pricing was fine for a restaurant of this quality. $140 including tip for 3 people, with appetizer and two deserts.

Went based on reviews, not disappointed. Everything was great. The service was a stand out with an excellent Waiter. Our group tried all their signature dishes, the Prime Rib was simply the best I've ever had, bar none. The history of the place along with the service/food make this a must hit on any trip to Biloxi.

First time with family and it was above our expectations....Atmosphere,historical...... charming surroundings and beyond friendly, informative staff, especially our waiter,"O" who added a wonderful essence to our dining pleasure. Food was so delicious, from the warm, buttered, homemade french bread, to the fresh, flavorful salads, to the perfectly prepared and presented entrees and desserts. Baked stuffed shrimp....Grilled Yellowfin Tuna, Crabmeat stuffed snapper and Crabmeat and Shrimp Au Gratin....all hot and delicious....savored every morsel. The warm bread pudding was fluffy and sooo good. All this for lunch and about $20 - $25 per person....it is definitely more than lunch, it was the best dining experience. "O" added so much to the ambiance and was the best. Can't wait to go back again. And we are from NOLA, so we know our seafood....rating it on our top 5 list of restaurants.

Built about 1733, I this building was the territorial government headquarters for France's Louisiana territory. If you're a visiting tourist interested in history, check it out. It's a decent place for lunch. Our GPS said this address is inaccessible; however, it took us right by the parking lot. Not knowing what we were looking for, we drove by it the first time. Then we came back and parked. We had no trouble seeing it once on foot.

This place is a classic and very interesting to visit. It's sort of a museum/time capsule and gives you a good idea of what the old style architecture was like. Food is quite good. I always get the Sisters of the Sea and it is excellent. Service is so-so and varies. Great for bringing first time visitors to the coast.

Wow. Great service great food for my party of eight after my daughter's wedding. Fillet was perfect and all of the seafood dishes were fresh and yummy. Sherbet is good, especially the lime. Bread pudding tastes like yummy eggnog. Ambiance is great for a relaxing lunch while the rains come through.

Will preface this review with the fact that I grew up in Louisiana and lived in New Orleans for 25 years so know Creole/Cajun cooking. My husband and I had lunch today. Waited a good 10 minutes before flaginga waiter for help who found ours. service decent after that. My stuffed flounder wason top and the flesh very dried out. Pulled up the bones up and got better if skimpy meat underneath. dressing fine as I love sage. My husbands crawfish etouffee was like nothing i had experienced. a very dark roux with clearly tomatoes included. Rather overpowering for the crawfish which are a delicate taste in roux. also why serve canned green beans and canned corn along with what is purported to be a "fine" meal. Was clearly disappointed and it is a shame because it such a lovely venue.

It's a double disappointment when an "institution" like Mary Mahoney's falls short of the hype... or your memories. MM's is somewhere I'd been in my distant past and it was fixed in my memory as a very special place. Unfortunately it was a total bust and fell far short of my expectations. I don't have anything against old, historical locations. In fact, I adore them. But MM's is just tired and in need of updating. And please take down that creepy clown painting. Seriously, WTF is up with that scary ass painting? I'll post a photo and you decide for yourself. The service was impeccable and is almost always the case with places like this. Too bad the food was near inedible. I have the gumbo and my companion had étouffée. The gumbo, which they claim is famous, had a weird taste. I don't know what it was, but it was just off. The étouffée was downright inedible. It was scorched and they tried to save it when it should have just been thrown out. I know people love this place but it's just not my cup of tea. I say skip it.

We always go to Mary Mahoney's when we are in town. We have eaten a lot of the menu items. A must is the award winning gumbo. I am a gumboholic and try out gumbo in many places. This by far is the best. The soft shelled crab is a winner as are the other fishes on the menu. The prime rib is great blackened and you can top it with crab meat. Awesome. They just added shrimp and grits to the menu. The grits are creamy and the shrimp and sauce make this a must try. The bread pudding is wonderful. Service is always excellent. We make it a point to go there when our favorite waiter, Tony, is there. He is great and has been there for years. Our only regret is that we can't go there more often because it is in a different state than where we live.

Really good food. Live the old building it's located in and I love how each room has a list of all the famous people who have eaten in that room. Service was great and quick. The bacon wrapped scallops with sweet tomato jam was a very impressive and delish appetizer. The seafood was perfectly cooked and the wine list was fabulous. For dessert we tried their Mississippi mud pie and their famous bread pudding. Everything we tried (food, wine, beer...) was delicious. We went back twice in one weekend.

Save room for desert! Came here for lunch. Not the cheapest place. Roughly $20 per lunch. The food was amazing, though! All 3 of us had different meals. I had the seared snapper. It was delicious! Each meal started with a salad. The garlic rolls were warm and yummy. I was stuffed after I had the last bite of fish. The waiter asked if we wanted desert. He said, "You might as well. It's included!" I was bummed. Couldn't eat any more and had to fly out. All in all good experience. I'd say come here if you are not in a hurry (service wasn't the quickest), have a few bucks to spend, and wand good seafood.

Set in an historical mansion built in the 1700s....kind of an eerie feeling here where you can see the original exposed brick work in some of the dining rooms. Also historical is the southern/Louisiana fare here - cajun, french, creole, seafood to infinity....but very rich! The owner will also visit your table to tell you old stories of days past - lends to a great atmosphere. Huge portions and very rich - save room for dessert! The staff were very friendly here! Made me really feel that southern hospitality is real and lives here - I love that!

The restaurant was nice and the service outstanding but the food was not. The chicken almondine was plain with no seasoning at all. The other dishes which were seafood were just ok. Nothing we would want to eat again. The world famous bread pudding was awful. We use yelp a lot when out of town, usually with good results, this was the exception.

This is a really neat historic restaurant. Not sure how long they've been an actual eating place but the bar area is the original 1700s building with the other buildings built in the 1800s and early 1900s im guessing. Been a while since i ate here but i distinctly remember the bread n butter, the redfish and the bread pudding as being outstanding. I just love eating in historic buildings, the air feels different inside.

Amazing atmosphere, good food, great location. This place is so full of history, you can just feel a connection to the past by walking in the door. It is upscale, but for lunch at least, everyone was dressed casually. Our servers were top notch. They had me at the hot bread, butter, and sweet tea! The salad was great. I wasn't overly impressed by my crab & shrimp a gratin, but my husband's stuffed crabs & gumbo was pretty good. Complimentary coffee & bread pudding was nice, but not the best I ever had. Eating on the glass porch & watching the birds and all the old trees was the best part of the meal. Worth a visit!

This was our second visit to Mary Mahoney's! The lunch specials are ample and well priced to include salad, entree and sherbet or bread pudding for dessert ( for $17-18.00). Today our service was not good. I understand a tour bus of people is demanding and time consuming but then don't have the waiter serving them serve other tables too. It was so slow and we received very little attention. The people at the next table arrived after us, ordered and had their food before we were even greeted after receiving water. Another waitress came and tried to help- she was apologetic but our waiter was not. Escargot was in bbq tasting sauce with red beans and pasta shells? Simple is better! Crawfish étouffée over angel hair pasta tasted like crawfish tails in spaghetti sauce- sweet and tomato based...? Stuffed snapper was good and gumbo was decent! We had high expectations from our first visit 6 months ago. Disappointed!

There's few places that I really like a lot. This is one of them. Now what to eat? Believe it or not Mahoney has a great prime rib. It is huge. Get it with the twice baked potato. Homemade salad dressing is very good. Although a lot of people like it, I don't like the bread pudding dessert. It has too much of an alcohol taste. My favorite is the broiled flounder. I also don't like the crawfish toffee. but for about $13 you can get a salad, entree and dessert. That's not a bad price.
