Delicious, cheap, and the sweetest proprietress you will ever encounter! On my way back from Alabama, we stopped to visit a friend in Biloxi and she read off a list of lunch options. We opted for D'vine's and were so glad we did. D'vine (the sign actually says "Christ" in tiny letters above her name) is located in a tiny shotgun shack with outdoor wooden bench seating on Main St., which was the lively and busy center of East Biloxi's black neighborhood before Katrina. While we sat and ate our lunch, however, a steady stream of customers were lining up to pick up white styrofoam boxes of soul food goodness. We ordered: 1) Lasagna (a special of the day), rice and gravy, baked beans with fried cornbread, hood juice (Kool-Aid? No, HOOD JUICE) - I didn't try the lasagna but the rice and gravy were excellent and the baked beans had little pieces of sausage in it. Nom! Also I love the fried cornbread, which was similar to Native American fry bread, but fatter. And cornier. 2) Rib plate, baked beans & cornbread, fried okra - The ribs were a little tough around the edges, but tender and tasty on the inside. The okra was fried freshly for us--mm, the only preparation of the slimy veggie I like. 3) 6 chicken wings and fried okra, sweet tea - I'd actually ordered potato salad but the mix-up didn't bother me. Delicious wings, crispy on the outside (a little too much breading but not so much it ruined the chicken), tender and piping hot meat. Great sweet tea, Daniel said it reminded him of Vietnamese sam bo luong; a little bit more herbal tea tasting than cane syrupy sugar. All in all, a well spent 26 dollars for three full bellies and one dinner (my friend Trinh took home the leftover lasagna and beans for tonight). Not cash only, surprisingly, but we paid with cash anyhow. Savor the sunlight and chat it up with Ms. D'vine, she says lots of folks from New Orleans come through so tell her you heard about her on Yelp!
