Wow, what a gem! I had dinner here recently and it was a wonderful meal. Cafe 37 is indeed in an old opera house located in the adorable court square in small town West Plains. The interior is beautiful and the upstairs is definitely worth a visit. Service was friendly and attentive. Cafe 37 has a great selection of cocktails and wine, and also features drink specials. For dinner my party started with the spinach dip appetizer and it was very good. For dinner I had the petite filet with smashed redskin potatoes and fresh vegetables. The steak was perfectly cooked, the potatoes were delicious and the fresh vegetables were fantastic. If you live in the area of are traveling through, Cafe 37 is must try!

I only sat at the bar for an hour or so, but the ambiance of the place is unexpected for a town like West Plains. The bartenders were unprepared for drinks like Manhattans or Gibsons, but they were very friendly. I will come back here and explore the entree menu in further visits.

As many other reviewers posted...great ambiance in the Bar area...nice architecture....however.. My main reason to go to a restaurant is the food. This is where the place falls short. I had a Ribeye Steak that was of very poor quality. It was tough and looked like a thin piece of flank steak. The Orchard Salad didn't have much in it from the Orchard. A few small pieces of lettuce. The Chocolate Cake was very good. The problem here is food quality and price point. I eat in many high end restaurants and love to check out the local flavor in the areas I travel to. This place fell way short. It is very overpriced and I have no problem paying high dollar for a great steak. This was about $25 bucks for a piece of beef jerky. This place has great potential but needs a visit from Restaurant Impossible to get it back on track. I won't be back...

By far the best place in West Plains to enjoy fantastic food wine, beer or cocktails!! No other place in this region has the atmosphere and history this restaurant exudes!! The pub next door is also tons of fun to hang out after dinner for that "night cap" Oh, I mustn't forget the black forest cake. It is absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD!!

Great food, lovely building. We're traveling for a weekend in Memphis but,bbq aside, we would be hard pressed to find a better place for lunch. Thanks for coming out to meet us Chef Chris, it was delicious!

Cafe 37 is my favorite restaurant in West Plains. It's right on the square in an old Opera House. The building is beautiful with hardwood floors and a painted tin ceiling. The menu is not what you would expect in a small Missouri town. The ingredients are fresh, and the service is friendly. At lunch, I've had the Tuscan Turkey Sliders with sweet potato fries and Pulled Pork Nachos. Both were good. I really liked the nachos. My friend commented that the serving size was small, but for lunch, I thought it was really a perfect size. I liked that sweet potato fries were crispy. When I went there for dinner, I had blackened chicken that was a little too blackened. It was a little dry but still flavorful. I've liked every meal I've had at Cafe 37. I wish it was open on Monday!

The experience my family and I had at this place was laughable. We stopped on the way through town, based on positive yelp reviews. I'll start by saying this, the place itself is beautiful....old converted opera house, remodeled spectacularly. However the restaurant service needs remodeling itself. We walked in as a family of six, with 4 of them being kids. After ordering drinks, and having the waitress return twice to tell us that they didn't have the sodas asked for, all 5 of them were FLAT. Not one bubble to be found. Remember, we walked in with 4 kids? We had to ask after 15 minutes of being there if they even had kids menus. Oh yeah, they did. Then, my two older kids ordered steaks, only to have the waitress come out 10 minutes later to tell us they ONLY HAD ONE STEAK!!!!! Mind you, it was 5:30 pm, and we were the ONLY people in there! Needless to say, we left. But not before taking 10 minutes to settle up our $10 bill for the flat soda. This place could be very nice, and maybe the food would have been amazing, but we weren't about to stick around for another hour to find out.

THE best place to dine in the region! The ambiance is amazing as you enter this historic but wonderfully remodeled venue. Although elegant, it is also warm and welcoming. The menu is innovative and quality is terrific. I loved my glazed Mahi Mahi with a freshly made salsa with jicama, and my husband's steak was perfect! The wide selection of wines allows great pairings, and the staff and owners - who were there the night we visited are experts at suggesting just the right wine. This is a great place to stop in anytime at all - or for a special occasion. I feel like I would be comfortable in nice jeans or something formal as everyone was welcoming and very attentive and friendly! With the huge upstairs venue and dance floor, it seems like the perfect place for a rehearsal dinner or wedding, and their new really fun sports bar next door is worth checking out as well!

You may have noticed that I am trying to put all the great places that I discover in SE Missouri on the map. I am going to be here for a while, and as I discover places like Cafe 37 I want to do my part to tell people about some of the gems I find around this overlooked part of the country. I was in West Plains late on a Thursday night, and although I wanted to drive back to Rolla, my buddy said we should visit this great restaurant on the Square in West Plains. And I have to say I was really impressed....neat restored old space with big vaulted, pressed-tin ceilings, and lots of room. Reasonably-priced, innovative new American menu. The bartender was in a suit and British (wasn't expecting that in an empty West Plains restaurant). I guess what makes me want to go back to this place is that the entire experience was unexpected on many different levels...I encourage anyone visiting West Plains to check it out.

Normally I would not leave a rating like this as I have been to this restaurant several times and always enjoyed it. However on the 21st we took my mother and all her grandchildren out to celebrate what would have been my parents 55 anniversary. We lost my father in february. We made reservations well ahead of time. And even called back to confirm. On the day of our reservation we got a call as we were leaving at 5pm to confirm our 6pm reservation. We got to the restaurant and ordered appetizers. They were very good. We had to wait on a couple of the kids, but finally we were all ready to order. We dis do and my mom and I both ordered a mango curry mahi mahi dish served with a coconut rice. It took well over an hour for our entrees to be bought to us. after 45 min we were given the excuse that the bar and grill next door had gotten very busy. HMMMM?? They finally brought our food, my daughters steak had to be sent back, my husbands steak should have been sent back. my daughter in law got vegetables she specifically asked to be given and didn't get the potatoe she was supposed to get. The mahi dish my mom and I ordered, didn't even taste like mango or curry, and the coconut rice looked just like shell pasta to me. ..It was not good, and it was also obvious that the plates had set under heat lamps for quite some time. all in all we were thoroughly disgusted, They did take part of my daughters drinks off for her trouble, but total time in the restaurant was 3 hours, I don't mind taking my time through a meal but this was just way out of line. I am so dissapointed.

THE place to eat in West Plains! Very charming. Located at the town square in a very historic building with an innovative menu! Tip: ask for a tour of the upstairs opera house!
