As a native New Yorker (Bronx baby!) and now an ex-patriot of the "tri-state" area going on 13 years... I try and find real NYers making real NY style pizza wherever I live. In Charlotte NC it was Hawthorne's pizza... Here in St. Louis, it's La Pizza!!! This is as great a place you'll find as any walk in pizzeria in NYC. The owners are from Queens so it's legit... I tried about 4 places before finding La Pizza, and I'll never try another!

I grew up about an hour from the Bronx and had the pleasure of having real NY Pizza. I have lived in Buffalo (where I couldn't find Good NY pizza) and Daytona Beach which had Pete's Pizza. Living In St. Louis now I searched for NY pizza since STL pizza is really bad and is just a cracker with cheese only good for bar pizza. After thinking that Raconelis was the best I could find in STL I came across LA Pizza. This place is a gold mine. The place is small with not much room to eat in if it is busy but the Pie is great. It is also not as expensive as Deweys which also has good pizza. The ingredients are all made fresh and there are a good amount of toppings to choose from. I am not sure if you can order by the slice but after tasting it you will want to take some home since it is great in the oven or cold as well. The owners are also very friendly and are originally from the Bronx . If you are a NY pizza lover, this place is a must, you most likely will not find a better place in STL.

This place has some of the best pizza in town. It is in the NY style and just delicious. The restaurant itself is rather tiny but there are a few tables inside to enjoy your meal. In addition to pizza, sandwiches and salads are available as well. The pizza is the standout here. The workers are friendly and the pizza is consistently good.

The staff here is so over-the-top, profoundly rude it is hard to believe this place is still in business. If you place your order, pick it up and leave you will probably not notice. But if the slightest issue comes up like price, order or questions and you actually have to interact with them, it becomes quickly apparent how appalled and inconvenienced they are. They do NOT like having to deal with you and will gladly let you know. It isn't even in an oblivious, "whatever" kind of way, it is harsh and rude and makes you scared to eat your food when you get home. The pizza is average. It is not awful, but not great either and quite greasy.

Options in Saint Louis for NY style pizza are pretty slim but thankfully we have La Pizza (as in, the pizza, not L.A.) and really don't need an alternative! Great fresh pizza made by the friendliest guy in the business! Whether ordering a whole pie or customizing one of their large individual slices (NY style) you can't go wrong. They round out the menu with some really great baked sandwiches, calzones, salads and my personal favorite, their mouth watering Stromboli (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onion, and mushrooms rolled in their fantastic pizza dough, baked, and served with a side of their tasty marinara. I'm hungry now just thinking about it, I know where lunch will be today! Also worth mentioning is that their prices are ultra reasonable. La Pizza represents one of the best values for a quick lunch or dinner for them family in the entire mid-county area.

Place is pretty good, reminds me of a local pizzeria near my home back in Pgh. If you're like me, the answer to the first question you may have: No, they do not have a liquor license, however, you can bring your own beer. No fee. They even have a bottle opener, and will bring you a bucket of ice for your brewskies. Nice. I just get plain cheese 'cause I'm boring and stuff. Others have tried their bacon and pepperoni and enjoyed it, but IMHO the pepperoni is wayyyyyyyy too spicy for me here. Yes, I am a pussy, I know. Deal with it. ;) But can't go wrong with plain cheese, srsly. Limited seating though, and kind of a small lot. So be prepared. A lot of folks get carry-out, but I live too far away. It would be cold by the time I got home. Hence, every trip here (2 so far now?) has been dine-in for me. It's kinda messy to eat in your car, though if I was hungry enough and there wasn't enough seating, I would, though the cops may frown upon drinking in your car. So just plan in advance. :)

It took me almost a year to find *the* place that's closest to finding pizza that was good enough to label it "almost as good as home" (NYC). Finally I've come across it, a little hole in the wall...I should have known. Most of everything was spot on, I would make the dough slightly doughier but other than that, I've found the place to where I shall return for my fix. Thank the Lord!

It's been too long since I've visited! Was in the area and what an awesome treat. Everytime the pizza is delicious. The sausage is plentiful and flavorful. I like that it's sliced and thin. The cheese and sauce mixture is perfect. Not too acidic. The right sweetness for my taste. The crust is the best! Not too thick. A little chewy. 18", the large pieces are also fun to eat! This is my favorite pizza! Try it? It's soooo good!

My beloved LA pizza has taken a turn. Went here last night to pick up dinner for the BF and I. I ordered a 16in 1/2 pepperoni, black olive 1/2 bacon, mushroom. The pizza isn't quite like it use to be, taste wise. It use to taste much better. The crust was thicker than usual and my sweet sauce is no longer. The toppings are the same but the cheese isn't as good as it use to be. I'm officially on a break from LA Pizza, looking for a new spot with consistency.

Was pretty disappointed in the pizza. We don't mind paying 20$ for a 16'' large 2 topping pizza but with the amount of toppings and cheese on the pie it just wasn't worth it. There was 4 pieces that didn't have any becon on them and the others with 1 very small piece, it was like they were running out. With quality being this poor and for the value we would have been better off ordering from a chain. Also when we were placing our order we wanted to try a hero but were told "were out, were not making those". We'll most likely never order out from them again and stick to our usuals but we gave it a chance.

The pizza here isn't too bad, but it's a fairly generic crust and flavors. The fact they sell pizza by the slice is cool, but I will say there are a lot of other pizza places in U-city one should try out before eating here. The interior is small and seems like it's designed to get people in and out the door. The staff is nice and facility is pretty clean.

I love pizza. No... seriously... I LOVE pizza. I could handle having pizza for a meal more than once a week. If I go too long without pizza I start to get jittery and will begin craving it. I like to think I know enough about pizza to appreciate really good pizza when I have it, and La Pizza is EXCELLENT. I see other people referring to it as "east coast" or "New York" style pizza. I grew up on the east coast (not New York), so maybe I am predisposed to like this kind of crust, but La Pizza serves the best pizza in St. Louis in my opinion. I have grown to appreciate St. Louis style, but I think of St. Louis style as being totally different from "traditional" pizza. If you like big, floppy slices with a soft yet firm, slightly crispy, slightly chewy crust that's not too thick and not too thin, then La Pizza will not disappoint. The ratio of mozzarella to sauce is perfect, and the flavors are better than most pizza. I went for the first time at the beginning of this past summer, and even though it's a hike from where I live, I've been four times already and I'm itching to get back there. On my third visit I had a nice conversation with one of the owners. I shared with him how grateful I was to have found out about it and how much I appreciate the quality of his product, and he explained how it is a recipe that he has developed over years and years. Certain secrets when it comes to preparing the dough, certain things he's discovered about what brand of mozzarella works best, etc. You can tell this guy really cares and takes pride in what he does. Makes it that much more enjoyable to take my business there. I can't say enough good things about La Pizza. I love it!

Feb 2015 Update: It's still one of the few places in STL I'd order pizza from - however, the cheese to sauce to crust ratio is not to my liking enough for me to go out of the way to pick up pizza here. I've lived in St. Louis for 3 years now. Being from NYC/NJ, I've also legitimately looked for an east coast pizza joint since I've moved here. I've tried Imo's St. Louis style pizza here once and I almost denounced the definition of pizza right then and there. Though La Pizza is certainly no Grimaldi's or Di Fara of Brooklyn, this place has fulfilled every checkbox in my search for good pizza here in St. Louis. Checkbox 1: It's REAL PIZZA (none of that Imo's garbage...or other "thin style" pizza joins here)! Checkbox 2: They cook it well/tasty! Yep, those are my only checkboxes :) I hate to sound like a pizza snob but these are my only nitpicks for this place: 1) Their prices are comparable to the very best joints in NYC (meaning that I'm paying a much higher premium here for east coast pizza when I factor in quality). 2) The sauce and cheese ratio was a bit more sauce than I would've liked and not enough cheese.

My favorite pizza in St. Louis. No frills, so take out is recommended, just a great slice of New York style pizza. Perfect crust. Similar in style to what's served at Racanelli's or Ferarro's, but a step up in execution. Also, if they have to have stromboli when you're in, do yourself a favor and get one. They have a good lunch special too where you get a big slice and a salad.

Dive pizza joint. Friendly staff. This was my first time visiting La Pizza, the old building doesn't look like much, but I gave it a go anyway. It's an open kitchen, with two guys turning out pies, a few patrons in the small, rundown dining space whom seemed to be regulars. I ordered the 16" Roberto, not a terribly long wait, but a bit pricey IMHO. So here's where we start splitting hairs...The pizza is really a matter of taste. The crust was not too thick, not too thin. A bit chewy for my liking, but has a nice crunch on the outside. I do wish the crust had more flavor tho. The Roberto is loaded with toppings. Onions, peppers, sausage, bacon, pepperoni, olives and TONS OF GARLIC. If you love garlic, perfect. If you don't want it permeating your sinus cavities, not for you. I'm also a messy eater, and the exorbitant amount of toppings spilled onto my shirt during a slice. No fault of La Pizza, purely my own. However, the rest of the day the waft of garlic followed me around (imagine Pig-Pen from Peanuts) and I couldn't wait to get home and change my shirt. So, long story short, if I happen to be close by, I'd probably give it a second chance, and make sure I don't order a pie with any GARLIC. Otherwise, I won't be going out of my way to curb my pizza cravings.

We are getting tired of Pi & wanted some real pizza. After some digging we saw that STL Mag gave La Pizza the best pizza in STL. It was a 30 mile drive from Imperial but was well worth it. The only "New York style pizza" we've had is domino's delivery, usually after we've opened the second bottle of wine & we're not driving or cooking. This was some of the best pizza we've had of any style. We ordered the Roberto which is packed with like 5-6 different kinds of meat & it was just so good. My wife & I ordered an 18" & we will get 2 full meals out of it. If you eat more than 2 slices of the 18", you need to get checked for a tapeworm. The ingredients are so fresh, the sauce is the best I've had anywhere & the home made hand tossed crust is incredible. Somehow with 5-6 meats on a pizza it was not greasy at all, any other pizza I've had with that much meat would be greasy, some I've dabbed it off the top with a napkin. I asked who I assume is the owner how they did this and he told me all their meats arrived uncooked, they are coked in house & the grease is extracted. The service was great & the food was even better. Don't let the outside fool you, it honestly looks a little dumpy but I felt the neighborhood was completely safe. It's just an older building. Once inside the place is very clean & basic. They don't seem to have a liquor license, but have a good selection of soft drinks. It seemed like most of the other customers were regulars, with the quality of the food & the great attitude of the employees I'm sure they have many regulars. It was well worth our 30 mile one way drive, I would drive further for pizza this good. They also have sandwiches & other food, but I don't know if could order anything else but the pizza. Even if you have to drive 50 miles each way to get here, if you love good pizza you owe it to yourself to give it a try. We will be back.

I finally got to try this place and I'm glad to say it's worth the hype. The deluxe veggie ($16 for 14") is just amazing and completely LOADED with spinach, garlic, tomato, green peppers, onions, mushroom, black olives. I'm talking slices fully smothered in toppings, as is the way God intended. They especially go nuts on the black olives. I'd say it could satisfy 2-3 people depending on the appetites involved. And I swear it actually seems to taste better out of the fridge the next day. I think you can taste the veggies more when they're colder & crisper, but that's just a theory. The crust is ridiculously good. This pizza makes me believe I could become a vegetarian, and that's high praise. UPDATE - definitely order the pizza "well-done"

This is the closest pizza I found similar to an NY Pizza place back home. I bookmarked it ages ago and finally tried it the other night. This is the type of pizza that comes to mind when I am to lazy to cook on a Friday night and all I want is delicious greasy pizza. Nothing fancy just something that hits the spot. The slices are huge and a 16 inch easily fed two people and there were still leftovers for breakfast. I found the service to be very good and friendly. its the kind of place you send your kid to work at during the summer. The pizza was delicious and not disappointing. It satisfied my craving for Friday night pizza and it will not be the last Friday night craving I have.

This is the kind of pizza that does not try to impress you with fancy toppings or elaborate cooking methods. It's not a trendy, foodie pizza with fluffy artisan crust and a small pile of toppings in the center. No, La Pizza is better than that. This is pizza lovers pizza. It's crust to crust sauce and cheese and toppings. One bite of La Pizza sent me to another place back east, where pizza has a tradition, no gimmicks or trends or weird new spin.

I LOVE La Pizza, I just don't like the iffy service. If you call one hour before the close to place an order, the guys working there will tell you they have turned off the oven and can't make any pizza or they are out of salad. I wish that the owner would go on "Mystery Diners" so he could really see how his employees are running his business into the ground. If you want the best New York pizza, try this place. The food deserves 5 stars, the service deserves .25 stars. If the owner is there, your service will be great. If not, good luck!

I love this place. I've missed it for the last two years. The dough is fantastic, the toppings perfect. Paul Sr. does pizza right! I sunk my teeth into that pie and loved every moment of it! You betta believe I'll be back! BTW, if you don't want their pizza, but are up for a sandwich, get it there. They make their bread on site, which completely holds up for whatever toppings you can think of! If you haven't been there -- get yourself over there ASAP and experience La Pizza!!

Really excellent pie. I found myself in St Louis for a few hours for a meeting and ended up here. Let me clarify, I am from north Jersey and live there. I also spent a number of years in St Louis and one thing I detested was the "cheese-whiz over crackers and ketchup" that passed for "pizza" there. This place? It's the real thing. Looks to me like a lot of reviewers are from the NYC area. This place would fit in great back home and it'd be your typical local pizzeria that you'd order from. Is it DiFara's? Frank Pepe's? Patsy's? Nope, but it's genuine and great Pizza. If you want to know what Pizza is like in NJ or NY City, come here.

Tried LaPizza for the 1st time yesterday. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe how awesome this pizza was! We got 'The Roberto' and were delighted! I have to admit I had a little cringe at the $34 piece when I went into pay; however I didn't ask when I placed the order and it was an insane amount of pizza. We got the 18in and all I can say about that is that they are right on the money on their site with the size to how many the pie will feed...and then some! Totally worth the $$$ and I will be ordering again soon for sure! A shout out to the nice woman and gentleman working the night we went in. She was super pleasant on the phone when I ordered and just as nice in the shop. Great little U City gem!

easily my new number 1 pizza spot in st louis. i always drove past it, i heard it was good. one day, after spending a late afternoon at the zoo, we were famished and this sounded perfect as it was close by. called in a XL cheese. pizza was gone before we even got home. we devoured it. went back again the other day, same story. even their massive 18" XL does not stand a chance. its too perfect. and for the love of god, fold those slices or even better, smash 2 together for a pizza sandwich. trust me on this one... best NYC style in st louis

Great pizza! Even though I'm more of a deep dish kinda guy, La Pizza has one of the best NY style pizzas in the midwest. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but they definitely load it up with quality ingredients and a dash o' love. One of my brother's faves whenever we visit. Good service and plenty of leftovers.

OMG! I was introduced to this place by Allan. He invited Stephanie S & I to lunch a while ago. But, I couldn't go since I got the message late. Anywho, I thought I would try this place the other day. Boy was Allan right. Yummmy! I ordered a stromboli for my mom & a pie for me. Since I was fresh out of recovering from a weeklong of GI distress, I had to take it easy. Less cheese on the pizza. The pizza guy made it to my specs (less cheese, black olives, mushrooms & sausage). No grease lake like at Pizza Hut. The crust was a bit thin, but hey I like any kind of crust as long as it's good. It's a bit of a drive from Arnold, but well worth it. I will be back to try the stromboli. Thanx, La Pizza for satisfying my pizza craving!

I was born and raised in upstate NY, and I. Love. Pizza. So while I have taken very quickly to life and food in my new home town, I still struggle with how hard it is to find good NY pizza in STL. We had found a place that was good enough, and pretty close to our apartment. But consistent disappointments over long delivery times, crappy wings, and some of the worst counter service ever, drove us away. Drove us, in fact, straight into the open and loving arms of La Pizza, an easy to miss gem on delmar, west of the loop. The pies here are everything I miss about home, and the owner truly cares about that level of quality. If you ever find yourself wondering what pizza is supposed to taste like, or if you're like me and you crave it, check this place out!

Oh yeah. Floppy NY style - greasy & super tasty. This is great pizza. I picked up 3 MASSIVE slices (pepperoni, hamburger, green olives - all separate) on my way home this evening & it was terrific. Plenty of cheese, very light sauce & excellent crust. I didn't get a freshly cooked pizza, so I have to refrain from giving it 5 stars at this time, but WOW. It appears they don't deliver, but it's totally worth the drive. I cannot wait to have a full blown custom pizza from here. If their basic, precooked slices are that good, I fully to have my taste buds blown out of the water. The folks working there were really nice too & that counts for something. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place because we love Brooklyn-style pizza and we wanted to try something new. We got a cheese pizza and the best way I can describe it is: fresher-tasting Sbarro. If you like Sbarro pizza but often find it to be stale (as I do), you will love La Pizza. Not the highest praise, perhaps, but anyway it's delicious floppy NY-style and we'll be back when we're in the area. The building is a bit hard to spot, I suggest looking at it on Google Streetview before attempting to locate it. I also recommend carryout over eating in the restaurant, as it is very tiny inside.

I was super hyped to try La Pizza after all the good things I heard... it was just okay. Not bad but not as incredible as it is hyped up to be. Flavors were good but the crust wasn't as light as NY pizza usually is.

YUM! After reading the Yelp reviews for this place, I decided my bf and I needed to try it. He's on a pizza craze lately and every time I ask, "What do you want for dinner?" He'll answer "Pizza" and look at me to make sure I heard him right. The first pizza we got here was good but colder than I wanted it to be. We got take out, showed up late to pick it up, and then drove to his place, which was another 5-10 minutes. Not their fault. We gave la pizza another shot! And they're great! :D The pizza came out warm and melty with a nice crust. I usually don't like crust, but their was good. :) We got only meat and me, my bf, and my friend gobbled it all right up. I also like their little cookie things that are all pretty and italian. i don't remember what they're called but they sit in a jar at the front, costs a quarter a piece, and come in chocolate and vanilla. Buying one makes me feel like a little kid in a candy store. :) I'll be back here again!

For being in a small building this place sure does make up for it in their amazing pizza! My husband and I came here on a Friday night and had never been here before. We ordered a 16" pizza with pepperoni, jalapeños, mushrooms & capicola and picked two sodas from their mini fridge. We did not have to wait very long for our hot and melty pizza to arrive at our table. It was love at first bite! Crispy crust, ooey gooey cheese that stretched as far as the eye could see, which was from your super extended arm to your mouth. We attempted to eat the whole Za but, feared we would have to be rolled out of there if we did. Overall, a great place to eat and a good price to match. We will definitely be back to this yummy pizza place.

This is the first Yelp review that has brought me to tears. Most of the tears are because I didn't know when I ordered this pizza that it was NY style. I recently lost my father, a New Yorker, and eating this pizza brought back SO MANY amazing memories. I'm partly crying, though, because it looked so good that I couldn't restrain myself and burned my mouth on the gooey cheese and perfect sauce. GREAT fucking pizza. By far the best East Coast pizza I've had in a long time. GREAT service. They got here faster than I could throw all my crap out of sight of the door (am I the only one who tries to clean up for delivery guys?) and put a bra on. I don't know anything about the history of this business, but I can tell these are good guys. It's just evident in my entire experience tonight. Normally when I order pizza from chains I just feel really ripped off and pissed. But ordering this tonight actually made me feel good. Just kicking back, drinking some beer, listening to "Terry's Song", eating some AMAZING pizza the way it's supposed to be made, and thinking about my dad and all the times we shared in NY and NJ. He'd probably be pissed to know that I'm eating it with a fork. But I would tell him, just as I'd tell all the other pizza snobs trying to compare this to Chicago, STL, or other NY Pizza: Pizza should not be taken that seriously. Life's too short.

It's snowing, but it's been icing a lot of the day too. Schools are closed. They say that it may turn into one of the worst blizzards ever, with power outages, non-existant driving conditions, and people stuck inside for days. The boy picks you up (because let's face it, he's a much better driver than you) and you try to go to the grocery store, but the parking lot is so crammed that you can't even turn in to the shopping center. Ok, you think. We live right by the loop. There must be restaurants open. So you drive the entire length of the loop, and all lights are off, but Jimmy John's (eh), Qdoba (meh), and Blueberry Hill (which is completely packed with crazy college kids playing darts and getting their drink on). Blah. Then a light bulb goes off ::::BLINK:::: and you decide to call La Pizza. They answer. SCORE. They tell you that they will be around for another 15 minutes if you can get right in. Um, 2 14 inch pizzas please. You cruise down Delmar, which is basically a ghost town at this point, and you pull into La Pizza, which looks closed. But you see the owner (?) inside, no doubt waiting for your pizzas to pop out of the oven. The boy runs in, and then comes right back out, saying "Do you have any cash? The credit card machine is off." Luckily, I do have cash. But why is the machine off, you ask? Because they were never even open! The owner came in to make a pie for himself, answered your call, and was nice enough to make pies for you too! How cool is that? La Pizza earned a lot of respect from me last night, not just because of the above story, but because the pizzas were really delish too. This is the ONE place in the Lou that knows how to do gahlic on a pizza right...as in, I can actually taste it, which is kind of the point. That's true Ny style pizza. But I did pass on a salad.

I found La Pizza by accident when I was wow'd by a slice of pizza I had tried at the Clayton Art Fair. I was instantly hooked. Then St. Louis Magazine named them Best Pizza, and I'm not surprised. The location is very unassuming. You wouldn't know it's a pizza place by driving by unless you specifically caught the black lettering of "La Pizza" across a simple white banner. There is little parking and maybe around 4 tables. Last time I went, they had lunch specials, which seemed like a good deal. The food is sooooo good. It's New York style - long and thin. La Pizza takes extra care to make sure their crust is thin but strong enough to hold the toppings without drooping if you're holding a slice and flexible enough to be folded longways the way New York style is normally eaten.

So my friend brought me here after telling me it's the best Pizza he's ever had. First, never ever tell anyone that unless you want to set them up for disappointment. It was pretty good, but not THE BEST PIZZA EVER good. So we went in around 6pm and it was tiny inside. There were a few people in there, but it was clearly after their rush and the place completely emptied out while we were waiting on our pizzas. The unfortunate thing about getting there at that time was that they were not making pizzas by the slice, and the slices that were left were kind of dried out. I ordered a full deluxe pizza(forgot what they actually called it), and my friend ordered a slice. There were a ton of toppings, and each individual one was pretty good. The sausage was actually the full slices of sausage, and I could taste the garlic. I will say that they would be better served by charging slightly less for the deluxe and putting less of each topping on. The way they do it right now the meats overpower the other toppings and it gets super greasy. Also it seemed like they kind of skimped on the sauce so I couldn't really get a good taste of it. The crust was pretty good though. From the quality of the ingredients and how other people talk about this place I am inclined to think that I just got unlucky. I'll probably try it again later so you can call this rating provisional, but from my experience I can only give this place about 75 out of 100. A solid C, but I'm not super impressed.

THIS IS NY PIZZA!!!! I'm born and raised in NY, used to live in St. Louis and now live in Chicago. I am always on the hunt for good NY pizza outside of NY, and in La Pizza... I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!! The guys there are great, true NYers! They don't make pizza to make pizza, they really put a lot of pride in it. The result, a TRUE NY PIE (in NY we call them Pies, not pizza's or pizza pies.... just pies). My daughter and I shared a pie, although I ate more than she did, and it was FANTASTIC!!!! I was pretty darn full after, but that pizza literally took me back to the good ole days when I was growing up on Long Island. SO.... I had to order a calzone too! The calzone was great too, and I poured sauce all over it! My daughter, who was born and raised in St. Louis has tried all the various pizza's in St. Louis, actually likes Imo's (I can't believe she's my daughter some time) and she clearly stated La Pizza was the best pizza she's had, and rivals the pizzeria's in NY. IF you are in from out of town, and you want NY Pizza, go to La Pizza! If you are from St. Louis and want to taste authentic NY pizza, go to La Pizza. When you get your pie, grab a slice, push your thumb in the middle of the edge of the crust, press down, then FOLD it, lift it and enjoy every mouthwatering bite NY style!

One of my favorites. After driving by it for 4 years without knowing exactly what this little place was.... my eyes were opened! Great NY Style pies, for reasonable prices. Service is always friendly. I've ordered by the slice, but recommend getting a whole pie made fresh.

La Pizza, you may be small, but you are mighty. Upon pulling up to this storefront my friends joked, "are you sure this is a sit down joint?" but oh is it ever. We were greeted by two chill looking guys who I felt a little bad for--they were working New Years Eve after all. We took a seat and while we decided what we wanted, I enjoyed humming along to some Modest Mouse. My two friends and I decided on a Sausage, Pepperoni, and Green Pepper concoction that would keep us happy all through the wee hours of ringing in the new year. My friend Joe was feeling extra hungry and said we needed the 18'....so we did.....and we were brought face to face with what I can only call mammoth pizza. Mammoth Pizza made my jaw drop. Not only from it's large circumference but also from the taste---yum. yum. Yumyumyum. I had 2 slices (which was honestly impressive) of this New York Style pie and couldn't handle any more, but it was oh so good. Groan worthy for sure. And I enjoyed an empty little restaurant that I still got to watch get tons of take out traffic. This is a spot not to be overlooked!

Pretty good pizza but two big complaints. This is for one of their specialty pizzas, The Roberto, served at the restaurant, not to go. It was soggy, I couldn't even pick up the slice and had to cut it up with a knife a fork. I don't know if they needed to cook it longer or if the sauce was too watery, not sure. Either way, I was disappointed about the crust. There were so many toppings that I couldn't really savor them. They could charge a bit less and put on a few less toppings and I would be very happy. It was like there was a salad on top of the pizza and since the crust was soggy I ended up having to eat it like a salad. Perhaps if we had just gotten one or two toppings it would have been better as well. Still, if it's one of the signature pizzas I would hope for a bit more. The service is great and I like the place. Unfortunately, there are better pizza places nearby that I'll probably visit instead.

La Pizza is expensive. It's a small operation and I can see they use good ingredients, and make it by hand. We live within walking distance, and have gone occasionally, but $20+ for a large pizza is expensive in my book. Yes, it's New York style (and I'm from New York), and the owner is fun to talk to about baseball, but in the end, it's too rich for my pocketbook.

La Pizza is a no frills joint which allows them to concentrate on what really matters... the pizza. There is a nice variety of toppings, my fav is the (sliced) sausage, and the sauce taste like the most delicious tomatoes you have ever savored. The crust is amazing... a perfect balance of thinness for a proper fold that migrates to a chewy goodness at the perimeter while maintaining its crispiness. You know how at most places you can save calories by not eating the crust aka "pizza bones"? No such thing at La Pizza, its too fab not to eat every morsel. And the staff? Friendly without forcing it. And one of the dudes has a beautifully done right forearm tattoo that I can't stop staring at. Kind of a game to see how much of it I can make out without looking like creepy creeperton.

I believe this is the best Pizza in Saint Louis. New York style. Very friendly staff. However, they do have a small kitchen that can run out of dough towards the end of the day, so you often need to get your orders in early. Also a basic no frills place. But for just pizza, this is the place. If you visit, I recommend you encourage them to open a new location with a bigger kitchen..

First off, It's hard for me to rate ANYTHING 100% because that means there is zero room for improvement...in this case, the only thing keeping La Pizza from being perfect is a bit more grease and a location in one of the 5 boroughs...hehe I've been a regular here for 6+ years and have brought over a dozen friends and coworkers here, turning them on to REAL pizza, not the garbage served here in St. Louis. I always get my two slices (sometimes three) well-done, straight-up (aka no fresh mozzarella) with a can of Coke. Pauly and the boys always do an excellent job taking care of me and have my order memorized. I think this runs me about $5.35 or thereabouts and I try to leave $2 or more in the tip basket. Everyone here is personable (while no one can always be in a great mood, even when they ARE crabby, they are still personable!) and it feels like home. They all remember me, even though I don't think we know each others' names. I am horrible with names, sorry, fellas! The calzones are superb and the sauce is sweet and tasty. I've only had the straight cheese and spinach w/cheese, so I can't comment on ones with other ingredients, but my friends who eat em like em! I am a huge fan of Coca-Cola in a can, and they always have cold cans available. Woohoo! Outside of whole plain pies, plain slices and the occasional calzone, I once had the turkey and bacon sandwich with cheese and tomatoes. All ingredients were fresh and the roll was superb - flaky and crusty and nicely toasted. I've not a bad thing to say about La Pizza other than they are waaaaaaaaaay under-rated and unknown here in this mid-west town. If you are from St. Louis, expand your palate a bit (I know that's hard because you are stubborn and grew up downing provel "cheese" on square cracker-crust) and spend a few bucks at La Pizza.

So as a New Yorker and East Coaster I've had my share of authentic New York pizza and my share of close seconds. LA pizza wasn't quite there. Something people don't realize about NY is that their water is the key to the goodness of the pizza. I don't know why or what or how... some people say its the water towers (every building in the city has a water tower to help provide even water pressure to the whole building. Letting water sit in these vats allows for particles to settle out- thus making it purer). Whatever it is the effect is nearly impossible to replicate perfectly BUT you can make a damn good pie without it. La Pizza was okay- the closest I've had to ny pie since being here but my biggest concerns where these: the sauce was a bit sweet and the crust was a little too thick and soggy. A good ny slice can be held by the crust (you can bend BUT not full fold- thats cheating) and the crust doesn't droop. The cheese wasn't great either- when we opened the box our pie looked... sparse. Too much sauce showing around the edges. Also, definitely too much oregano. Other complaints- they took an hour to make our pie. They didn't have all the toppings we wanted- but didn't offer a discount on a replacement topping. We called it in, waited 40 minutes and then came by to pick it up and they just put it in when we arrived. We had to sit and wait- whats the point of calling ahead if you have to wait? Price was decent and they def had the pizzeria vibe going for them. Would go back on a week night to try again.

Good NY style pizza... big, greasy, foldable slices. It's not the best pizza I've ever had but for $6 at lunch you get a one topping NY sized slice, a salad, and a drink. The salad is decent sized but nothing special, the pizza slice is large enough to fill you up and is yummy. The cheese seems a bit on the light side, toppings are quality, sauce ok, but the crust is perfect... hand tossed, and crunchy and chewy at the same time. The garlic cheese bread is not good. Little cheese, and the garlic powder was just cheap. The workers here are super-nice. Tables are sparse. At peak hours you'll have to take it to go, or wait for a table to open up.

Picked up a large sausage and onion to go, Sunday afternoon. It's always more than I can eat with one or two pals. They only make so many dough sets per day, which is the essence of small, caring kitchens,. Nothing glamorous, but consistent, fresh, very food pies. Like BBQ, everyone has different faves. This is close, priced about right, and consistently flavorful.

My husband's favorite food is pizza, so we eat a LOT of it. This is now our go-to pizza place in St. Louis. Don't be put off by the building, the pizza is New York style and great. My parents love the Deluxe Veggie, extra good with the addition of capicola, but my husband's favorite is the sausage, which is sliced. They do only make so much dough each day, and only make that many pizzas, so call early if you want to make sure you get one.

I love La Pizza, though my boyfriend (a self-proclaimed pizza affectionado) was pretty unimpressed. Now, I am not from New York and am not entirely familiar with NY Style pizza, but I really liked the pie. Their crust has a nice, chewy texture and their sausage still ends up in my pizza-craving day dreams. Cheese is gooey and thick and service was fast. Price was $14 for a decent sized pie. Just make sure and take your pizza home if you have any problems with claustrophobia.

Coming from Chicago, there's a lot of us who know good pizza and are even biased a lot of the time with which is the best. While visiting St. Louis, we decided to order from here for our first meal because of the generally positive reviews of the place. The Deluxe Meat pizza from the short and simple menu was a pretty good choice with no frills (other than a lot of meat). The location stands out without standing out, if that makes sense. The dining area itself started right as we entered and there were actually a few people already eating in the 6 (or so) table space. Yes, it was tiny, but it was the simple and straightforward service with a delicious pizza in the end that made me pleased.

Hate to be the odd ball here BUT, I was disappointed eating here. Such great reviews but I just didn't see it. I am from the East and was hoping for a NY style pizza. No way..we got the lunch special, a piece of pie, salad and soda. The salad was nothing with an envelope of salad dressing to pour on. The pizza was barely warm with a few shreds of cheese on top. It's cut like a NY pizza but that's where it ends. Nothing special here.

This is another great pizza place in St. Louis. True New York style and really great tasting ingredients. (The sausage is amazing!) Not a big place, so either call in for pick up or plan on going on a slow night. The staff is really friendly. I felt like I was a regular even though it was my first time in. This is some truly great New York style pizza. The bread is fantastic, just as chewy as you want it to be and very foldable. The sauce is delicious, and all of the toppings I've tried have tasted great. The pizzas are huge, the smallest slice is 14 inches. The people who work here are really awesome and will make good suggestions and talk to you while you wait for your pizza. It's a hole-in-the-wall place, barely viewable coming down Delmar, but the inside is nice enough to eat there. They have some old pictures of St. Louis and things on the walls which is kind of cool too. Their delivery is somewhat unreliable, as some nights they can't deliver because they don't have a driver. When they're open this is easily my favorite pizza in St. Louis.

**This is NY-style pizza.** Yum! No Provel processed cheese product here; just delicious, correctly made, NY-style pizza. There is not a lot of room inside but if you have the time sit down and eat your pizza there, it won't hit the pizza box and take away that just-from-the-oven-perfect crust. If you must take it home; you still won't be disappointed. (Well, you might be disappointed if you are expecting a tortilla-thin crusts and fake cheese). The service is friendly and the guys taking the orders are making the pizzas as well. They seem to care about what they are doing! Great local business!!!

I think the owner here used to make the pies at Racanelli's back in the day...when they used to be good ;)a It is a tiny space so pickin a pie up from here and taking it home is probably your best bet. Best NY-style Pizza in St Louis, hands down! I spent many years living in NYC and this is as close as it gets in STL. As a matter of fact, it is better than many (certainly not all!) of the places in the city. I highly recommend the capicola topping. Don't expect a fancy restaurant with table service, trendy salads and a full wine list. This is strictly all about the PIZZA! Wish they would open one up Downtown, instead of the appropriately named travesty, B&T.

A giant slice of cheese pizza is topped to your liking, heated in the beast of an oven and, whoala, you have a delicious authentic NY style 'za. I've been looking for good pizza since I moved to St. Louis from Phoenix. You wouldn't think it would be that hard, but so many places serve St. Louis style with that processed Provel crap that you have to be careful. I went to La Pizza for lunch and got their 2 slice lunch special. It's 2 one-topping slices and a can of soda. I ordered one sausage and one pepperoni. I was initially disappointed in the fact that their selection of sodas was pretty limited. They had no regular Pepsi or Coke, so I had to go with Dr. Pepper. They are in a cooler on the counter, so they probably just hadn't stocked up. The Dr. Pepper that I got either hadn't been in there very long, or the cooler temp is not low enough. It was cold, but not ice cold. Then the pizza came out. I was impressed with the size of the slices. At $6.37 tax included this was a very filling lunch, for a very good price. The pizza was very good. The sauce was sweet, simple and good. The toppings were generous and good as well. I prefer more cheese than they put on though. The only real issue I had may have been due to the fact that I ordered by the slice. The bottoms of the slices were cooked more than I would like. I think this might be from the fact that I ordered by the slice and they had to put them back into the oven to warm them up after putting the toppings on them. My hope would be that if I ordered a whole pie the crust would be more to my liking. In summary it was good and I would go back, but I was hoping to be more impressed than I actually was. Back in Phoenix there are two New York style places in particular that I much prefer to La Pizza. When you also add in the fact that it's very limited in seating, beverage selections, and other amenities, the pizza needs to stand on it's own a little bit more.

Excellent pizza! I picked up a 14-inch sausage/pepperoni within a week of eating at Racanelli's and was really impressed. Though they're both supposed to be good New York-style pizzas, the difference is outstanding. La Pizza's pizzas simply taste better and they're priced pretty fairly. I especially loved the sauce on their pizza, but the sausage gets honorable mention as well. I recommend picking up a slice for a delicious, cheap lunch. I'll definitely be back!

Born and raised New Yorker (Long Island) and a bit of pizza snob. If I'm looking for regular pie, I come here. Pi is nice for dining out (and more money) but if I'm bringing it home to relax and enjoy - I'm coming here. I haven't bothered with Imo's since I've moved here 8 months ago because it just sounds kinda gross (but I'll try it anyway just because). I've had the sausage, bacon, and I think hamburger pies (yes pie, that's what we call it in NY) here. They load it up plenty with meat. The last time I went, we got one pie half bacon and half hamburger topping. The beef was a little heavy on a few slices and light on the others. Plenty of bacon and it was good too. Be sure to ask for it a little extra well done to get that bottom crust crispier. It should have a nice snap when you fold the pizza (we fold pizza in NY, I don't understand how anyone eats it any other way) with a nice snap, crunch, and clean bite. The cheese shouldn't come off the entire slice when you take a bite either. I haven't had that problem with La Pizza which is great. It's not too greasy at all either which is nice.

I have been driving by this place for two years. I absolutely love pizza and make a lot of it at home. Every time I would see this place, I thought it looked like a dump and didn't think the pizza would be any good. After a friend recommended it, I decided to actually stop by. I was very surprised. I lived in NYC for 10 years and this pizza is exactly like New York slice pizza. The exact same taste. Why?, the owner is from Queens New York and uses the same ingredients as the New York Pizzeria's, and makes it the same way. The key to the crust is the High Gluten flour that's been bromated, enriched and bleached. Normally I don't like flours that are bleached and enriched because they have no health benefit but I have to say the pizza is excellent. This is Authentic New York Pizza in St. Louis, the real deal. This pizza blows away Dewey's cheese pizza which has a bland no tasting crust. Dewey's makes up for it by having all these pizza's with fancy toppings on their menu to distract you from the awful crust. Also since Pizza by the slice is virtually non-existent in St. Louis, La Pizza gets high marks from me. If you want some fancy toppings go to Dewey's, deep dish-go to Pie, Neapolitan, go to the Good Pie, Cracker Pizza, go to Imos, but for real NYC Pizza go to LA PIZZA!

Imo's is okay. I really like Pi. I LOVE LA PIZZA. It's a hole in the wall type of place with excellent NY style pizza. Thin, crispy, and chewy dough all at the same time. Ingredients are fresh and it tastes great. I recommend La Pizza to anyone - even New Yorkers! Seriously, I just visited NYC last month and this pizza stacks up with the best of 'em.

But nothing could make me forget you. Your full-figured crust baked to perfection. Strong enough to support mushrooms, olives, sausage, not-too-sweet tomato sauce, all that mozzarella and still fold in half. Provel could never satisfy me like your mozzarella could, you know that, right baby? Let's forget the past, okay? We'll start anew. No, I know we can't have what we had before, but we can have something new and even better. Just you and me. Together forever. I love you La PIzza. Man, you've a great set of calzones.

This place for me is tied with Good Pie for best pizza in Saint Louis. They are completely different though. This is an authentic New York style pizza and it is crazy good. Everything is made fresh and to order and the crust/dough is just right. The pictures they have uploaded just don't do it justice. It's small and very casual, a very family owned kind of vibe. The people working there are so friendly and always remember you. If only they would please open a second location already! Maybe one downtown? ;)

I went here once. A long time ago. This has no point apart from recording that fact, and further that the pizza procured on the visit was excellent. It is a review in the same sense that footsteps in snow might be considered the first draft of a research paper on the topography of where you were walking. It is the trace of a memory I might keep forever or forget as I sleep tonight. I can conjecture that it hasn't changed much, even though the chances of me returning to verify are small. Sometimes I get philosophical, you know. Or maybe all the time? It's hard to tell. Anyway, great pie.

As a native New Yorker I am always on the prowl for authentic New York Style Pizza and at La Pizza I've found it. It's a family owned no frills pizza place just like the places I used to frequent in new york. I love that they know me, they greet my family with a smile and treat us like we're special every time we walk in the door. I always recommend sitting and eating the pizza there while it's still fresh out of the oven!

So I ventured to La Pizza last night after seeing all the 5 star reviews. First this place is very nondescript...if thats even a word. I literally passed right by it! The little pizza shop is very cozy to say the least. I was shocked more people weren't there seeing as it was a Saturday night. Oh and they close around 8:30 which seems a little weird because people usually want pizza around wee hours of The night. Anyway....I ordered two slices of pepperoni and olive (why didn't someone tell me the slices were huge!! i would have just gotten one) Nevertheless I sped home so my huge slices wouldnt get cold. I got home and tore into my slices. I love new york style pizza and they definitely satisified my craving for it! Customer service was cool. Overall good people, ample parking, great pizza, and reasonably priced!

The pizza here is very good, as attested to by many previous reviewers. The service is always friendly and personal. One note: you can ask for your pizza to be double-sliced, meaning you will get twice as many pieces that are half as big. This can be helpful if you have children.

This is the best East Coast-style pizza in St. Louis (and I should know; I grew up eating pizza in New York, Philly, and at the Jersey Shore). There is absolutely no competition. Sometimes it takes an awfully long time to get it, but in the end, it is always worth it.

Great NY style pizza, but it's best to go when they're not busy or it can be quite a long wait. We waited over an hour last time, but the owner let us have free soda while we waited to stave off our hunger. The pizza was so good it was worth the time it took.

While no, its not the walkable life I dream of, it is a pizza place within walking distance of where I currently live. Not that they were going to affect my ordering, but I have to say there are way more reviews for La Pizza then I figured there would be. I agree with one I saw about this not being quite NY style pizza. I'm thinking maybe if I ordered a larger size that might help its case. We ordered a small pepperoni and sausage to cheer Lizzie up, picked it up and walked back to the apartment. Just enough time for it to cool down and be enjoyed with a couple cold ones. The sausage was sliced thin as opposed to clumps, though I did get one larger clump, and didn't mind. Service was extremely friendly on the phone and when picking it up. I didn't realize there was seating inside, I thought it was strictly carryout (possibly delivery?). They had some cool sodas in the drink cooler, Liz was tempted to add a Fitz's to the order, but order was rang. They had this Empire brand, I hadn't heard of til yesterday, then today saw in the Gioia's fridge as well. Just realized there is such thing as microbrewing soda. That's awesome. Empire's cream soda just started calling my name... I will definitely be hitting La Pizza up again before my time here in the "Delmar @170 Business District" (ha) is up.

Surprisingly good. Crust is just ok, but sauce is tasty, it is well-seasoned, and just the right amount of cheese. New Yorkers will never be satisfied, but it is probably as close as St Louis can get. Worth a try.

Who would have guessed an authentic Italian style pizza could be whipped up by some Puerto Rican's. Walking into LaPizza, you immediately notice that the Italian motif of murals, checkered flooring, and Italian ingredient posters meets the pride of Puerto Ricans. The small dining area, of 5 tables, and a counter makes this one of the smaller diners, but it is packed full with taste. The pizza's, or as they call em pi's, are out of this world. The dough is crisp and soft at the same time. The ingredients are always the best, because they only use fresh ingredients. Pauli, the manager is always complaining about the price of cheese, but refuses to raise the prices. LaPizza also has some tastey calzones, strambolis, and hero sandwiches. (Try the Italian, with added jalepeno and bacon, it rocks). Appetizers simple but good. Salads and garlic cheese bread predominate the list. Overall, quick good food at an affordable price.
