Very good lunch and the best sauce dip, with fresh onions, and cilantro. Great lunch price.

We were driving though the area on a road trip when my little sister found this place on Yelp. It does not look like much from the outside, but El Charro has amazing authentic Mexican food and some of the friendliest servers you will meet. My family likes to practice our Spanish and right when we stepped through the door, we were greeted with English, followed by the Spanish translation. After the servers knew we could speak a little Spanish, they challenged us to continue. It was so cool to have them patiently wait and reply to our mediocre sentences. They were extremely kind and I loved how they were so eager to help me practice my Spanish. The chips are thin and delicious. The salsa was fresh and had a blended pico consistency with a kick. We also ordered white queso, which was creamy with blended spices-- a must try!! We ordered Chile Verde, Pollo Mexicano, Burrito gigante de Pollo, una enchilada pollo, y Chile colorado con pollo. Both of the Chile dishes were spicy but not too hot to handle. I loved my Chile Colorado for it's flavor and for the non-fatty meat. The dish is not cooked down like other restaurants, which adds a new twist. The rice and beans were like most traditional restaurants, not lacking in taste one bit.

I agree 100% with the previous reviewer. This is truly authentic Mexican food and some of the best in the state of Arkansas, that we have found. The waiters were friendly upon greeting us and were the perfect servers while we dined. The chips and salsa delivered were average and the salsa had no spice/heat and we, personally, love spicy. So, we asked if they had anything "hotter" and they brought us a very delicious, VERY spicy salsa. We mixed the two and it was a perfect heat & flavor for what we like. I ordered the special for that day, which was Taquitos Mexicana ($6.99) and my boyfriend ordered the El Charro Burrito ($7.49, I think). Both were served with rice and beans. I have attached pics. Both plates were delivered VERY HOT within about 6-7 minutes. Both were very fresh, hot and flavorful. I ordered the chicken Taquitos (instead of beef) and the chicken was very tender, a generous amount and delicious. The rice and beans were very good and we asked for a side of jalapenos and they were fresh and crisp (pickled). With both of our dinner plates and two iced teas, our tab was $21+. The restaurant and restrooms were clean, comfortable and roomy. They had 2 TVs with soccer on with Paris and Spain playing, which was cool. We will definitely eat here again when in the Thayer area.

Not a bad Mexican food restaurant. Being from Texas the food is a lot different then what I'm used to but it was not bad. Lunch special was $5.50 and pretty tasty. White queso was a little odd but was good. Would eat here again

The location is not much to look at from the outside, but the food inside as close to the real Mexican deal that you can get north of the Mexican border. I had the Tamale combo for $7.49 and it was served super fast and oven hot. Excellent flavor and plated very appetizingly. The picante style salsa was very pleasant and not too spicy. We ordered a side of guacamole for $5.99 and worth the price. Skip all the fast food restaurants nearby and give this restaurant a try. You'll be back again and again.

I normally could never give a Mexican restaurant in the US 4-stars, but this one is the best I've had. This is true authentic cooking and it is great tasting and flavored food. The menu is varied and we tried 6 different plates-all was very good. The grilled chicken burritos were very good and healthy. Decor w pure Mex.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
