"white chicken chili better than some sex I have had"... This is what a lunch companion used to entice us to try the Llewellyn's. She is so in lust over the chili she bought a VIP card for $20 (get $20 off next purchase & then 10% off food, alcohol & even merchandise @ all Llewellyn's). IMHO- the chili has great flavor but no kick. Service was friendly.

Had lunch on the patio last Friday. We sat at the patio bar because of the mayhem, that was very obvious, going on at the patio tables. The food was good, but the poor service a bad attitude of our bartender ruined what was to be a nice lunch on a beautiful day with my girlfriend. I will save all the boring details, but we cut our lunch short and left simply so we did not have to deal with her anymore. Being in the restaurant industry for 18 years this experience reminded me of how important great service is and without it, how it can completely ruin what we had hoped was going to be a nice afternoon out. We will not return.

Llewelyn's has great burgers with soft cheddar cheese. I'm a fan of soft cheddar. Twice we have had terrible service, with two different servers. We keep coming back because of the patio seating and the great burgers. I have been searching for good restaurants in St. Charles for non-smokers, besides the chain restaurants which have mostly already switched to non-smoking. Interestingly, we have had good luck with Llewelyn's patio being smoke-free during our experiences. Once the patio is closed for the season, there is no way I will visit the inside that is full of smoke everywhere.

This place serves on of the best black bean burgers I've ever had. (Although their chicken chili is wonderful, as well!) food portions are huge and priced moderately. They even have food on the menu that both of my kids like... Not an easy feat! The beer selection is one of the best in St Charles, making it a favorite for the hubs and I. I wish there were a few more bathroom stalls! That's my only tip, otherwise I wouldn't change a single thing!
(4)Sean M.
I love this place! It is one of the best spots on Main Street to grab a drink, have some food, and watch a game. They even have the soccer matches! Yes! Try everything on the pub menu! They're wonderful.

This is where it all begins when WP3 and I hit Main St for a night out on the town St. Charles style. We like to sit in the bar area at the hightop tables but there really isn't a bad seat in this establishment. There are TVs galore and live bands on the weekend. I believe there's a small cover charge Fri and Sat after 9. They will check your id as well. The drinks are strong and the food is tasty. We've had the Fish & Chips, Irish Stew and Shepherds Pie. Never a complaint. The patio is large and dimly lit. Perfect for a date night. Great Social Hour specials during the week.

it's was't a very good day for me at llywelyn's. The building itself and choice of beverages deserve 5 stars the execution and the food deserve 1. I walked in and the little bartender hit me up before I even had my coat off about what I wanted..I told her yes i want a drink but I need a second because there was so much to choose from. She walked away and proceeded to have a long conversation at the end of the bar with another worker. She didn't check back on me for what seemed like 15 minutes. I decided on one of the special beers that have to be pumped out and she had so much trouble getting me a measly little glass out of there.....by this time I was parched ....I finally got my beer and asked if we could get some of the irish chips with rarebit. They came out quick....there is no seasoning on the chips at all and you get a very tiny little helping of the cheese sauce. Well we ran out of that after about four chips a piece and asked if there was any other dips. WE ended up getting another little ramekin of pepper cheese sauce. I think they could do a little better on the food here....Our beers were almost 6.00 a piece and the chips and cheese were about 8.00 by the time we paid for the extra sauce. It was a younger college aged crowd in there today also and my bartender (Avril Lavigne wanna be) never did warm up or smile or make chit chat with us. SIGH....
(2)Ryan B.
I had the fish and chips (their homemade potato chips). The chips were under seasoned, and the fish was under-cooked, not very crispy. The dipping sauce was good. My parents had the same dish and theirs was crispy. They have an alright beer selection. Some local, some international.

So I'm in St Charles for the memorial day weekend. Best way to start out is on the patio with a rogue dead guy ale! This is a cute cute place. Set on a former bank, I totally want to have dinner in the vault. I had the lamb sausage sandwich. On. A PRETZEL. ROLL!!!!! Perfectly charred. Peppers. Delicious. I'm deducting for the BREADED fries. Uh they're already fried. Hello. Thank goodness the sandwich was awesome. And the dead guy ale bombers (multiple) definitely helped. Sorry for the short review - I'm on my Droid and I'm drunk.
(3)Jeffrey S.
I took a recent trip to England and had the best fish & chips of my life on Hayling Island, right across the street from the beach and the English Channel. The fish & chips at Llywelyn's ranks a close second.
(4)Mindy K.
Food just okay, ordered the pub curry, didn't have much curry flavor and was dry. Outside seating is great, beautiful view of river and park.
(3)Greg G.
Nope. The food is just not any good. The wait staff is factory trained.
(1)Yumiko K.
My review is mostly on their desserts. (The food looked alright.) My boyfriend did order a couple of beers. Coming from Seattle where microbreweries thrive, this pub had an OK selection of beer. I got their cherry cobbler, which was WAY too sweet/syrupy and had a meager amount of whipped cream on top. (No a la mode??!!) Their Oreo Cookie cheesecake was dry and crumbly. Ugh... Maybe I should have ordered the Guinness brownies or bread pudding instead. The pub itself was pretty neat and spacious. The vault looked neat, and the bathroom was tidy.
(2)Josh C.
Service was poor and I had gnats in my beer. The food was alright, I had a decent Reuben but couldn't get past the gnats.."I hate those things" was the response I received.
(1)Steve H.
Very good change of pace from most "regular" bars. Not sure how much of an irish pub it is, but the food is tasty and reasonably priced. The Pub burger is excellent, with cheddar cheese, bacon and served on english muffin.
(4)Sandy M.
Had an awesome time at their 4th of July party. $25 and I got a free budweiser tshirt, beer coozie, and bottle opener on top of a hot dog/pork steak BBQ dinner and three drink coupons. Great waitress, super attentive in spite of being busy. We were able to enjoy our dinner on the patio while people watching those headed to Riverfest. No porta potties, no waiting in line for food and drinks, no fighting to find a place to sit. At 9 we stepped out on the back patio for a perfect view of the fireworks. Thanks, Llywelyn's!
(5)Ron L.
The colcannon potatoes were as good as I had in Sneem Ireland while I sat by a peat fire. The Irish stew was as wonderful as what I had in Waterville Ireland. I definitely recommend this Irish Pub. Snooky LaVallee
(4)Jim F.
very fun place I had fish and chips and it was very good. Great beer options I like German Weis and they had what I wanted.
(5)Johnathan E.
This Llywelyn's location doesn't live up to the other locations I've been to around Saint Louis. I've been here several times and each time there has also been something majorly wrong (being asked to move in the middle of my meal so the band could set up) or several minor things that added up (soggy fish and cold fries, sickeningly sweet onion soup, and a piece of fuzz or lint on my plate). I just very honestly do not care for this location. Also, the atmosphere is a bit loud too. I know its a bar but do not expect to carry on meaningful conversation here if you go during the evening. I would imagine most of what this location does in profit relates to the alcohol sales. I've tried it twice and won't be going back.
(2)Maureen M.
I like Llywelyn's a lot, this is the first time I've been to the one on main street. I love that it is in an old bank with the vault and everything still there. They give you drinks in plastic cups that you can take home and the food was really good. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Shepherd's Pie, I've had it at the location in the Central West End and liked it much better there than the one on main street. So when I go back I'll just get something different and save the shepherd's pie for when i go the other location.
(3)Amanda C.
The more and more I come to this location the more and more I get disappointed. I am beginning to think that their business side of the restaurant is just as bad as McDonalds... I was so frustrated after waiting over an hour, being there when a party of 8 called 45 minutes ahead and got seated BEFORE us (we were there 30 min before these people even called in) we left... I wrote a letter and heard absolutely NOTHING. A bit sad seeing as how much money we have given this place, how many people we sent there based on the food, and how we even paid for their stupid loyalty card!
(1)Karen G.
Llywelyn's has 4 local pubs, but I like this location on the cobblestone Main Street in St. Charles. Perfect for the whole family, the large dining room gets pretty noisy so kids will fit right in. I like that there is live music in the dining room and a huge beer menu. The reason that it only gets 3 stars from me is that I always struggle to find something on the menu to eat other than a basic burger. I guess it's just not my type of food. Service has always been good and friendly.
(3)Robyn C.
Love the outside bar and patio!! There is also indoor dining and in the lower level there is more seating, a pool table and a shuffle board table and the lower level can be rented out for parties. Awsome place for main street St. Chuck.
(4)Kerry T.
Great food. Terrible service every single time. How can great food, slightly high prices and terrible service continue to go together?
(3)Cameron K.
I'll be honest, I'd already had a few pops when I walked in here. But they have Fullers ESB on tap. Served room temperature with no CO2 hooked up to the keg. So EXACTLY how it's supposed to be served and how they do it in England. This is the best beer you've never had, do yourself a favor. It's so smooth it goes down like water. Granted, you might want to arrange a ride home, but whatever. Bartender was very fast and friendly, loved the nice interior with the polished wood and basement and jail cell looking room. Not sure what it was but it made me giggle and think of the Hooters in Selma, TX that is in the same building the county jail used to occupy.
(5)Daneal K.
I ate here for first time on Saturday. Being able to sit outside and eat on a beautiful day, eat fantastic food, watch the dogs (dog-friendly outdoor patio), and chill with good friends was awesome. My friend Lyn raved about their Rueben. They make their own chips too! I had the Pub Burger and it was quite tasty. I hope to return soon and sample more of their offerings! You ask, "But why not five stars?" Service! It was a really packed place, service was slow and a bit sloppy (i.e. no menus, no silverware, no drink refills).
(4)Jack C.
Good bar food not so great but fun place

I am so happy that Llywelyn's Pub has opened a new location in my home, Saint Charles! I love this place, and the first time I went there, just this past Saturday, I had a great experience! The waitresses, even though busy and new to the job, were very friendly and on top of their game! Yay! I think that is so important in today's economy - you want a tip right? The food was okay. I enjoyed my fish sandwich, but probably wouldn't pick it again. But the Guinness Flat Bread Pizza - YAY!!! Big Two Thumbs UP!!!! I would recommend and get again! It's great for two people to share as a starter or as a happy hour meal. Which, btw, happy hour is 3 - 6 M through F. (We checked of course!) The beer - oh how do I love the beer selection. They don't have their own brew, but they do have a wide variety. I ordered the Moose Drool. Tasty! I liked this place and will go again! I actually had a better time here than I have at the Soulard location and even the CWE. This is open, clean, and a new exciting place for the St Chuck crowd. A little older crowd, which I liked.
(4)Vinny J.
Good food, OK beer selection. Typical Irish pub atmosphere on inside, but completely different vibe outside on patio.
(3)Brian B.
I tend to enjoy Irish Pubs any place I go. I have heard allot about this place and decided to try it for myself. The decor is wonderful, but the dining room is noisy. We sat on the patio which was quiet and had a great view of the Missouri River. The menu looked delicious, but when the food hit the table I was disappointed. The portions were small for Irish Pub fair, the food was bland. My beer was luke warm, and our server not quite attentive. I really wanted this place to live up to what I heard, but I do not think I can give it a second try. If you want Irish Pub food, stick with McGurks, Seamus McDaniels, or Pat's in Dogtown.
(2)Angela L.
Really nice pub environment but probably some of the slowest service I have ever experienced. We had a group of 6 and one of the people actually had to get up and go get a beer at the bar because our server kept passing by without ever stopping, even after trying to flag her down. The food was only fair. For the price, I definitely do not see the value here.
(2)Andy W.
I met my dad here for lunch yesterday. It's a cool old bank building; Llywelyn's just opened in the last few months, as I understand it, and the (large) patio was still undergoing renovations on the day we visited. My dad had a a burger that he loved, and it looked delicious on the plate. It was served on what looked to be an English muffin (?). Their coleslaw is vinegar-base. Like that. I ordered the Reuben and it was rather ordinary. Presented well but ... how to say ... rather flabby, loose. Typically I'm a fan of sweet potato fries but theirs were startlingly orange. And too much food for a lunch portion; I carried half home with me. I'd give them another visit but I don't see this being a destination dine for me.
(3)Ben M.
I brought a lunch date here and we sat outside. The salads we ordered were overpriced and definitely sub-par. We were served our food without silverware, I had to get up and get it myself. Otherwise, the service wasn't terrible, but it was mediocre at best. We sat outside and it was nice. I would say that for the price there are most likely better options right down the block.
(2)Ryan R.
This is a wonderful place with great food. The environment is great and the beer selection is stellar.
(5)Wayne S.
Had the shepherds pie, pretty good. My wife had the fish and chips, fish didn't have much flavor, but the tatar sauce made it much better, chips were burnt tasting. Very nice decor, big place...
(3)Sir Dennis B.
Great burger specials on Monday nights....$1. Drink specials on Thursday nights. Check out there web sites and other locations. Great place to bring the family too.
(5)Molly R.
It's a bar with food. That's what I expected and that's what I got. Our waitress was great and was able to recommend food. It was very loud and that's the only thing I had a problem with. The food was also very good. I wasn't blown away but definitely good when you've been out walking all day in St. Charles.

My husband and I went to Llywelyn's for lunch on 1/13/14. We were excited about the menu. They have traditional pub fare along with a good selection of burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers. The food was ok. I had a burger that was lacking in flavor and was very greasy. My husbands Reuben was a little bland as well. The pretzels we had for appetizer were good, except they were way over salted. But the food is not what prompted me to review this place. The service we had was very poor. After we were sat at our table it took the server ten minutes to get our drink order. She brought our drinks, then walked away without asking if we were even ready for appetizers. She finally came back almost another 10 minutes later and took our whole order. The wait time for the appetizers wasn't bad, but when she brought them to us, she dropped half of our appetizer on the floor. We got our entrees in fairly decent time as well, but the server was totally unfriendly. I realized when I got my burger that it was fairly large and I wanted to cut it in half. I noticed that we were not given any silverware. So I picked up this big greasy mess of a burger and just ate it cause I could tell the server did not want to be bothered. I asked for a refill on my Pepsi and it took her another 10 minutes to bring that to us. She brought the check so we just left the money on the table and walked out. I left her a pretty generous tip I thought for the level of service we received. After we left, we walked around the back of the building to go to an antique store. My husband and I stood outside to enjoy the weather for a couple minutes and I saw a man sitting on the back porch of the pub smoking a cigarette. No big deal, we are both smokers too. But I stood there and watched him for a minute (he had to have been a cook or dishwasher of some sort). He proceeded to blow his nose into the air and them wipe his nose and mouth on his arm and his shirt!!! It was absolutely disgusting! I will not be going back to this pub again.

This is a fun place to go. I wouldn't say that the food is outstanding by any means. However, some of the people who accompanied me loved the food. I am just not really into Irish or bar food. My friend had the adult grilled cheese which she loved. I had a bite of it and felt my arteries clogging immediately. I had the Irish mussels which had so much potential, but the broth was so salty that I could barley eat it. I had a great time with my friends here and they had an Irish band play in the later hours on a Friday. I was slightly annoyed that we were not going to be able to talk once the band started playing, but they were awesome! It's a fun place but the food is just ok.
(3)d o.
We have been there a couple of times. The food has been great. The cabbage rolls, shredded beef, fish & chips have all been good. The resturaunt is set in a an old bank. Kinda cool to eat your dinner in a safe! Gets busy at night, but that happens with good places.
(4)Roman P.
Service on a Tuesday night was BAD!! and food is way overpriced. I travel quite a bit from Chicago to Miami and this place is OVER RATED to say the least. Dont get waited on by the big guy with the Phu Fighters shirt, he can not remember an order or deliver it to the table in order. Main course came before the salad?? Come on dude, the place was empty, how hard is waiting on two or three tables.. And why would I get my dinner and the other guest not get the order they placed at the same time? Odd and poor service. I ordered a Ceasar salad with my meal.. want to know what was delivered?? Get this, a large Ceasar salad with chicken on it, after my main course, and they charged me for a large Ceasar to boot. Look at this over priced menue ... a Steak and Cheese is $11.95!!! My God, they need to visit Chicago for the real deal under 8bucks. Better get it right Llywelyn's, you no longer have my vote. Oh, and please udate your on line menu as you did not have the Shrimp wrap that I wanted so I settled for another item. You see, I check out a menu before I visit a restaraunt and when its not right,, its just that,, not right.

My husband and I have been going to Llywelyn's CWE since 1991 when we were dating. We decided to go walk around St. Charles today and have dinner at Llywelyn's. We stopped in for a drink before our walk and... While my husband was away from the table the waitress, very nice, took my drink order and said she would be back to get my husband's. It was a while before she came back to get my husband's drink order, and when she came back she was without my drinks? It was a while again before she came back with 2 cups of water, both with ice. I asked for water without ice. Eventually she comes back with my huband's beer and my wine. She hold's up my glass of wine and says, "Did you realize this is all you get?" The glass had 1 inch of wine in it? I said , ummm, I think I'll skip the wine and stick with water. She's fine with that and stops at a few more tables. My huband and I just sit there feeling like we're in the twilight zone! 5 minutes go by and she comes back with a glass of wine and says that they were teasing her because she is so gullible and this is the right amount of wine now! I passed on the wine and, we passed on dinner. What a bummer. The waitress was pleasant, possibly needed a bit more training, and the bartender...well, the bartender needs something!
(2)Ricky G.
Excellent service. They don't deliver normally, so I begged & pleaded with the manager to deliver me food on a rainy day. They complied, & said the food would arrive in 30 to 45 mins. However, the food actually arrived in 25 mins, & this was a huge inconvenience for me as I was balls deep in my wife at the time. I love Llewlyns!

Wife and I went to Llywelyn's for our casual anniversary dinner. We LOVE pubs and cardinals games - so we though to give this a try. While the service and food was all ok, it was not anything spectacular. Let's start with the plusses: Atmosphere: The ambiance is pretty cool. It's an old bank, so it has wooden floors, walls, ceilings and HIGH ceilings. Really cool look inside and a great atmosphere. It looks fun and inviting. Great bar. Enough TVs to watch the game, but not too many so they distract from the actual place itself. There's a patio outside that looks nice, and a downstairs I didn't get to see, but sounded big. Overall: solid 5 stars on ambiance. Service: The greeters and waiter were great. Polite. Fast. Efficient. Friendly and talkative. No complaints there. Food: The beer was cold and fast. Great selection too of more common brews as well as many micros I'd never heard of. That was nice. The menu looked pretty good - not a huge selection but lots of intriguing things. One plus was a lot of traditional British and Irish food that you don't normally see. I don't know if it was any good, didn't try. The food we did get was average. I tried the house speciality sandwich - the steak something or other. It had a special melted cheese sauce on it and all. It was ok - but honestly was pretty lukewarm by the time it got to my table. It didn't take that long, so I wonder if it was already made. Before I could finish eating, it had gone cold. That just makes for a bad experience with red meat and pub fries. That being said, it really tanked the sandwich for me since it wasn't necessarily that spectacular to begin with. My wife got a rueben and said it was also pretty good, but also that it wasn't piping hot from the kitchen or anything. And since it was "just a rueben" like we've had many other places, the heat was probably one of the only things that would have made it worth while. We did get an appetizer - the Irish Potato Boxty. That was pretty good, but basically just potato skins. We probably should have done the pub pretzels. Those came to a table next to us and looked amazing. So in conclusion - I'm not saying I won't go back. I just probably won't go there unless someone else picks it. And if I do, I'll be trying different foods to see what else is around. It was ok, but not my favorite. I'm hoping I just hit an off night and it can be redeemed!
(2)Christian T.
As long as you stick to the hot pretzels you'll be fine -- my family and friends were super disappointed in everything else we ordered. How do you screw up a burger? A steak sandwich? We all ended up stealing chicken strips off our kids plates to make up for food we ordered but could not eat. Want fries with that? You'll be lucky if you get four. And the prices ....wayyyyy too expensive for what they are dishing out. Service was great. And the drinks were good. But the kitchen needs new management stat. They are making the coffee shop directly across the street look like a four star restaurant.

Was in town for a convention and asked the bartender at our hotel where she would eat if she was us. She mentioned a couple places all on the same area as this one. The first one she mentioned was closed so we settled in for a cold beer on the patio. It was really inviting. Outdoor furniture was comfortable, music wasn't unreasonably loud, and waitress was attentive to our needs. I had BBQ honey wings and they were really good. Friend had a Reuben sandwich and she gave it a three out of 5 stars. Beer was cold, patio was clean. Was a pleasure to have some local food with local folks and not a chain dining experience.
(4)Heather M.
Ate here today and the service was impeccable. Lots of great craft and imported and domestic beers available. The waiter was very knowledgeable in all of them and also had recommendations for our lunch. My daughter had the Buffalo chicken flatbread and I had the Llywelyn's chicken and they kindly left the bun off of it and added a nice lettuce leaf to roll it into. It was amazing! coleslaw is housemade. Just a very light vinaigrette and not overpowering. We had a blast and it was the best food I've had in a long time. Wonderful for a leisurely Sunday late lunch.

Having left a $10 Foodie STL giftcard behind on my recent visit to the Soulard location, my wife and I decided to start our day in Old Town at Llywelyn's Pub. Along with my mom and father in law, and their giftcard, we walked in and were seated right away on a Sunday around 1pm. First impressions were to sit in the patio area, which was more than large enough for the area, and on a nice breezy day we almost forgot the main draw was that the pub was built inside an old bank. This historical aspect gives the Old Town location a hands down advantage over the Soulard spot, if for no other reason that the opportunity to dine in the old vaults! As with the other locations, the beer menu was quite large, offering everything from local craft options, to national beers, and a few things I have never even heard of. My day was made when I was told the guest tap was filled with Sam Adams Porch Rocker, a beer I discovered too late in the summer apparently, because I cannot find it in stores anywhere! None of our group are huge beer drinkers, so it was awesome to have Carie as our server, because she was able to ask just a few questions about the beers we would normally drink and offered up some great ideas to try. I stuck with my Porch Rocker, but the wife and stepdad both tried new options and neither seemed disappointed. For food, mom had the fish and chips, and raved about the dish. Step dad had a pub burger and fries, and for some reason I cannot remember what my wife ate that day. Probably because she skipped the Monarch Burger, which was my dish of choice. The Kobe Beef was cooked to perfection, and the fries and pickle on the side were pretty damned good too! Overall, Llywelyn's Pub was a treat to visit. Service was A+ and the food was quite good. We loved the atmosphere and the patrons and staff were extremely friendly. The pricing was a bit on the high side for what we generally would go for, but having the coupon brought us right back into our traditional budget for a meal out. For two of us, minus the coupon, we got out of there with a bill of just under $30 before the tip.

The food was outstanding! I had the potato boxty appetizer. It was super! I also tried the steak sandwich! It was outstanding...too big to finish in one meal. My dining partner had the black bean burger with the pub fries. She also really enjoyed her meal. The service was great and very attentive. The beer selection could be improved - they have the same ol' tired "Irish Favorites". There are so many local breweries that could provide much better beer selection. The biggest negative is the smoking. I'm from Illinois and smoking is banned in restaurants. It really grosses me out to have to eat around people that are smoking.

I wasn't sure if I'd really like Llywelyn's but I really did and actually can't wait to go back! I didn't really get the whole pub experience because I was there for a graduation dinner with 30 people in the basement. But next time I'd love to sit upstairs and grab a few drinks. They really were so accommodating for our large group. In the basement there is a pool table and a shuffle board table which is great for entertaining guests while waiting for food. We had some pretzels, fried pickles, and house chips while waiting for our meals. The pretzels were super good! And of course I love house chips and fried pickles. Although I wish the pickles would have been served with ranch and not tartar sauce. So I ordered the cod sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. I would have totally gotten the house chips to make it a regular ole Fish and Chips but I already had them as an appetizer. The sandwich was great! The fish was very white and flakey and yet super moist. Everyone had different dishes and the one I want to come back for most is the Shepherd's Pie. For one, it looked amazing, and two, I've never had one! It seems like the ultimate comfort food. Not one person complained about their food. Everyone was very happy with their choice! The best part of the experience was definitely our server. He was all by himself with our large group and another table but he did AMAZING. The service was incredible. He had drinks constantly refilled and brought out all of our meals at the same time. I was so impressed! All in all, I'm excited to come back for some drinks upstairs and try more of the dishes.
(4)Ken S.
Not impressed with the St . Charles location. Had a reservation for a reception. After waiting an hour my favorite dish was as bad as the service. My rosemary chicken Flatbread had no rosemary. Not quite the same.
(1)Lake G.
Jordan gave great service! Hamburgers have some unusual spices in them, but very flavorful. Big ole honking steak fries were very tasty! It's a Pepsi product place was its only downfall for me. Whatda ya gonna do? It's the age old controversy. I think restaurants need to have both. Pepsi and Coke need to work out a way to share!

I am in the St. Charles area fairly often on business. This was my 3rd visit after being introduced to the place by a local friend of Irish descent. I was with my boss this trip and we wanted something a little more traditional Irish. I had the Bangers & Mashed and my boss had the Shepherd's Pie. Both were large servings and very tasty. Perhaps a few too many green beans with my Bangers & Mashed, but no big deal. The service was excellent. I'll definitely be back on my next trip.

I stopped by for just a quick drink and a take-out pizza. The pizza was excellent and the drink, well, decent for what I paid, which was $3 (happy hour). Not as smoky as you'd expect from a place that allows smoking inside (a sad fact for most local restaurants in this area). So quick tip: order the specific liquor you want in your drink, or accept the bottom shelf for $3. And the pizza was wonderful.

On a trip back home stopped here for lunch and sadly it wasn't as good as I remembered. Must've been an off day or something...at least I hope that's what it was. The pint of cider was a true pint - YAY - but the rest of the meal was a bit lacking. We ordered the Irish fried pies which are supposed to be filled with tater, onions and corned beef. Our first order of them had a fried outside but felt like it was still in the fridge inside. Sent it back got another order which was hot through and through but mostly filled with mashed potato. You had to hunt for the specks of corned beef. Hubs' Reuben while tasty was very short on the Russian dressing (ie. dry) so we asked for a cup of dressing to fix it up and my salmon salad was tasty but the salmon was just barely warm like it had been sitting for awhile. Bummed that our trip down memory meal lane was full of bumps.

First time here. Ordered the welsh rarebit, shepherd's pie and the steak and cheese. All were awesome! Definitely will be back. Hubby who doesn't usually like dark beer had the schafly dragon and really like it as well. Service was great too.

I highly recommend sitting on the patio, it's a great atmosphere! Drinks are great and have specials. Food is delicious! The reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 5 is because every other time my boyfriend and I go there the service is either really good or really bad.

Visiting family in St. Louis and heading out to dinner with a party of 8 with a child, a newborn, and our dog Kya. We needed a place that allows dogs so we called ahead to R. T. Weilers. We arrived and they had given the outdoor tables away. We were left to walk the streets of downtown St. Charles not knowing where to go. We stumbled upon Lywelyn's Pub and they had a large patio, you can see the river, and we saw a few dogs relaxing with owners so we jumped as we saw a large party departing and leaving their 10 top table open. Lywelyn's has a nice selection of draft beverages to include not just beer but also ciders. The food is Irish inspired pub food so not fine dining but good. Staff was friendly, drinks were cold and the food was good. Service took a little while but all tables we full so they were busy as it was a Saturday night. I would highly recommend it for a relaxing evening. If the weather is nice sit on the patio and enjoy the ambiance and view with a nice draft.

There was something off about the food this time. My kids wouldn't eat their food. My food had a burnt taste, my cheese was melted half on my plate and half on the hamburger and the bottom bun was soggy. I would have complained but our server was super crabby. She was tending bar, waiting on the full bar, and the full four tables behind the bar. She rolled her eyes when we asked what type of drinks were available for the kids and mumbled pepsi products. When my son took too long to order, she tapped her foot and looked ready to explode. I don't think we'll be back to this location.

We were there today at around 2 pm -- well past the lunch rush. The restaurant was not busy. The service was extremely slow and non-attentive. We watched as the three tables seated after ours were served their food. We watched and waited some more. When our food finally did arrive, the fish and chips was lukewarm. Also, the pub chips at both Llywelyn's we've been to always seem to be overdone to the point of being brown. I guess that is just the way they're done at this place. I'd give this restaurant 3 stars for food, as the other dishes were OK, but one star for service, hence the 2-star average. The building is nice -- it's obviously an old bank and the vaults are still there. It was also well-decorated for Halloween.

Great atmosphere, wait staff excellent. But the bartender of a 2 years knows not nothing about customer service. !
(2)Sarah S.
Food was okay. Felt bad for our waiter who was running all over the place. No one was very friendly and there was lip stick on my boyfriends cup when we got our drinks after a long wait. Seemed understaffed but it could have been the beautiful weather making it a popular lunch spot.

Kudos to Llywelyn's for accommodating for our big group! A friend wanted to have her 30th birthday dinner here and I offered to help her arrange everything. I called a month ahead and talked with the manager about having a group of 15 dine there on a Saturday night. They don't normally take reservations so I wasn't sure if it was eve possible. They were helpful and we got it set up. Little did I know that our group of 15 was going to grow thanks to people inviting lots of others and a week prior I had to call and ask if we could up the reservation to 20. They said they'd note it but no guarantees because they knew they'd be busy and it was a game night. Day of the reservation I called that morning just to double check. They said they had it down but because the Blues were playing that night (actually they played a day game that day) they would be busy but they would see what they could do. I arrived early and talked with the hostess who told me that they were waiting for a table to clear and we'd get this entire area. The hostess was very helpful and sure enough she got our big group into one area. The food was delish and I did expect it to come out a bit cold or whatnot due to the size of the group that was getting their food but it did not. It came out fresh and ready to devour. We started with the pub chips, which are always a hit and continued on with the chicken wrap and a pub burger, plus a few drinks. The wait staff assigned to us did a great job and were on their toes making sure we all had everything we needed. Thank you again Llywelyn's - we will certainly be back!

This was my 'go-to' restaurant in college and still is. There's always something great to eat along with a never ending beer list to choose from, always good service too.
(5)Candis S.
I always enjoy the beer and food here. The seasonal salads are delicious and the flatbreads are great. The beer selection is out of this world. I'm a huge milk stout girl and the New Holland's Dragon Stout is crazy good. If you like bourbon, chocolate, coffee, and beer, this beer is for you. What puts this place over the top is the service. Friendly faces, great food, and someone who makes you feel welcome is a trifecta of restaurant perfection. Well done.
(4)Doug K.
It's a bit on the expensive side, and the killer is that they charge extra if you want ice in your bar beverage.
(1)Steven C.
I ordered the mini burgers. Menu says it comes with four, served with fried onions, pickles and tomatoes. I got three burgers, no onion or pickle, and old tomatoes. Great parking in rear. Great old building. Next time I just order cocktails.

Okay, to start off I've been to many of the Llwelyens locations and to this location multiple times. However, last night I was simply disgusted with everything that I saw. I'm not picky about many things, but when I see the server, cough into her hand, and then put a lemon slice on a glass with the same hand without washing them, it disgusts me. That's how people get sick. Simple as that. The same server continuously touched her hair and her face, then proceeded to go inside the kitchen and roll silverware without washing her hands. Took 15 minutes to get our drink orders in and 10 minutes after that to order our food when the restaurant was half empty. Also our server was the bartender...go figure. Totally unfair in my opinion. When she took forever to get back to us, we flagged down another server to ask him if he could serve us. He said he would ask the bartender if she "wanted us" and if she didn't, he'd take us. Our food was cold but the best part of the experience funny enough. I don't know what is going on but the manager needs to give their staff a serious lesson in personal hygiene.

We decided to go here after a friend told us about this place. We walked in and it was packed, which is a good a sign. We order the pub chips for an app. The chips were ok but nothing special. For lunch we order the Shepard pie and fish and chips. The fish was cooked very crispy and was not greasy. The shepards pie seemed very unhealthy but o so good.

I wish we could award half stars as this should be a 3.5*. Nice solid pub fare, service was a bit distracted. We stopped in twice during our long weekend in St. Charles-once with a group for dinner, and then Sunday night for a few beers. The menu is varied, and everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. The beer list is pretty extensive as well. The ploughman's sandwich is an interesting twist on what is traditionally served as a platter. The outdoor patio seating area is really nice, especially on comfortable nights like we just had, but avoid sitting near the music if you want to have any conversation with your friends.

I was looking forward to trying Llywelyn's for the first time because I'd been told by a lot of people how good it was, and that I should try it on Main Street for lunch sometime. I was a bit disappointed on this trip here, not as great as I expected at all, sadly. I ordered the beer battered cod sandwich, the sandwich that it came on was soggy and gross on the bottom, the fish was alright but a very very small piece of cod. I needed to add salt, lemon and tartar sauce for it to have any flavor. Our waitress forgot the sauces that go with our meals and we had to wait about 10 mins for them and had to ask a different waitress to please find our non-attentive waitress. the pub fries were really delicious, I will say that. My family both ordered the roasted beef sandwich and claimed it was horrible, inedible and had no taste. I felt bad because I suggested this place maybe other locations are better. I'd be willing to go back and try something else but I guess in general staff is not very friendly here.

Having gone to the one in Webster a lot, stopped here to eat and it was totally different. They shorted us on food portion etc. just don't come to this one.
(2)Bill K.
GROSS. This has to be the first place I've been to in a year where there was cigarette smoking indoors. I've almost forgotten how disgusting a dining room full of cigarette smoke is. UGH. Like taking a time machine back to the Bad Old Days. Live and learn!

This is my favorite restaurant on Main. The famous steak and cheese sandwhich is awesome and so is the Monarch burger. Great beer selection. I highly recommend trying the Brown Dragon. Atmosphere can be loud. The outdoor patio is the best place to find a table. Outdoor bar. This is always my go to place to start my night.
(5)Chris S.
What a wonderful place to eat and drink. We were in town for the afternoon with my elderly parents and found this place to be awesome. They allowed our dog on the patio with us for lunch and the food and drinks were outstanding. The steak sandwich was the best I have ever had!!!!!!!! 4 Stars!!!!!

Ah, Llywelyn's Pub, if you want something tasty and Irish, look no further. I have been going to all the Llywelyn's locations for years. They just seem to get better with age. This one is fairly new in St. Charles, and it's in an old bank. You can still walk through the old vault, which is neat. The food has always been tasty and service has been consistently good. We had the Irish Pies last time for an appetizer, they were delicious, but I am partial to the pretzels and cheese. I ordered the Llywelyn's Burger with their rarebit sauce. It was a great choice and tasted better than I expected. Try them out and see how happy it is to by Irish! Haha!

I've been to three of the Llywellyn's locations. This one is the most up-to-date, I think. They have the same menu and, based on the two times I've visited, the same food quality (i.e. pretty good), but I like the ambience here a little better. I went yesterday for a business lunch. Had a cobb salad, which was very good. Service was perfect and friendly, they have their own lot, which is a plus in this area. Not sure how they could have improved for this visit. They also have a nice patio. Prices are a little steep for a menu that's not all that special (it may have been special ten year ago, but not anymore). They have a nice list of draft beers. I rate it a great place to stop for a beer or lunch if your in the area.
(4)Anthony S.
This place is mediocre at best. I went in with mid-range expectations and was still let down by the quality of the food. I've tried both the fish and chips and their burger and both were sub-average. I tried a friends pub curry and the saucy parts seemed pretty good but I don't think I'll go back here after 2 trips and neither being very good. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is ok so I guess its a good place for a beer.

Had dinner last night on the outdoor patio. It was great spot to enjoy the weather outside with a few strings of lights on the fence gave a romantic feel. There was a need to put some more lights even on since it was so dark you can't see your menu. The pub has a large selection of drinks but only a few are listed on the drink menu. So you have to know exactly what you want ahead. Ordered the mussels as an appetizer and after thirty minutes the server came back saying they were out. At that point I was so hungry I ordered my meal. My boyfriend had Monarch burger which according to him was a great burger. I got the salmon sandwich. The ciabatta bun was white and spongy which only made the salmon dryness even more apparent. While the location was ideal the experience was not.

I have been to Llewelyn's several times. Sometimes with very large groups, sometimes with just a few. The food is never bad, ever. However, this past time, the service was terrible. There were only 4 of us & it wasn't busy, at all. Our waitress clearly did not want to do her job today. From messing up our order to being downright rude. To top it off, we were there for a friend's birthday & she was so disappointed in the service. One other thing, it's great dogs are welcome, but service staff should not be petting them & then touching our food. Ew.
(2)Shannon G.
I was extremely disappointed in the service tonight. We walked in and waited for a hostess to seat is, when no one paid attention, we sat ourselves. Numerous members of the wait staff passed by us, looked at us, but completely ignored us and sat another couple. After waiting for a bit, we left. There were roughly 4-5 tables occupied inside.

I am just not a fan of this Llywelyn's location at all. Which is a shame, because it's so damn close to my house. I could probably walk there in about 10 minutes or so. Man... this update wasn't for any one particular visit but rather a collection of a few more visits over a period of several months. On a more recent trip, Sean and I were seated downstairs and there was ONE waitress for an entire almost totally filled room of people. Yeah. Wtf. She was running her butt off! I left her a good tip even though the waters didn't get filled too often. There was just no way humanly possible she could have made it. Also, the only mildly appealing thing on their menu is the sliders and even then, meh. This place can't hold a flame to the Scottish Arms. I wish they'd get turned into the Scottish Arms magically so I could walk there, get trashed, eat an amazing cheese board, and stagger home. ...only in my dreams!

This girl loves her some traditional pub fare every once in a while. Especially on a chilly day during that awkward few hours between a friend's wedding and reception. We found ourselves in need of a good lunch and a place to kill some time, and Llwelyn's came to the rescue. Our service was awesome and no one seemed to mind that we occupied some space for a long time... I was also surprised to see such a great crowd in there on a Saturday afternoon! The place was packed with multiple sports being shown on the many TV's, and the vibe was happy and fun. The Captain and diets didn't taste so bad either. What can I say? Sometimes it's best to just go with something reliable. I went straight for the comfort food on this trip and ordered the fish and chips! It came with two huge cod fillets and awesome fries, and "mushy peas"... which, admittedly sounded disgusting, but they were actually pretty good. The meal was so satisfying and I had no complaints at all. I'm a huge fan of the house-made tartar sauce, too. So good. I won't hesitate to come back if I'm in the area! Llywelyn's was a great spot to kick back and relax while enjoying the fun atmosphere of Main Street.

Came here for lunch. This place is neat. I think it was a old bank. Got the club chicken sandwich which was ok. I've been to the other locations... burgers are delicious. It's a good bar atmosphere.

Delicious food and great happy hour pricing. Large selection of international beers! I lived in England for 3 years and the food is an American take on British and Irish food - but to be honest it is much better than most of the pub food I had in the UK! The sandwiches are gigantic so you may want to share! The staff is very friendly and it is a great atmosphere with picturesque views of Old Town St, Charles. * The only draw back is that they allow smoking. I went a few weeks ago with a friend and we were seated next to some chain smoking men drinking whiskey and it was gross and smelly.

I love this place!!! The food is pretty good and Mindi is my favorite server, I always request to sit in her section when she is working.
(5)Steven C.
The patio Is awesome. Always a good time and good food!! Great specials and tons of beer on tap.
(5)Pat S.
Very slow service and long time between waitress stop by, tried the fish and chips with pub's own brand of chips. The fish was hard, cold And over coated; served with small portion of tarter sauce. The chips were partly to hard and partly soft and rubbery. The traffic flow was narrow with resulting a lot of people bumping our very tall chairs. Even us taller people had to climb onto the chairs. I was there with good people so we had a lot of time to visit without interruption. So this is a good place to just hang around if your not hungry or have anything else to do with your life

Always good food. I especially like the Turkey Cheddar Melt with homemade chips and a side of cheese sauce. Yummy!!!!!

Llywelyn's was our destination post-wedding + pre-reception a few weeks back. Coming from KC, we weren't too familiar with the St. Charles area but a bunch of guests of the wedding decided to hang out here before the reception. Prices were extremely reasonable and the food was pretty good. We split a few appetizers at our table, notably the calamari was tasty and not too chewy like I feared it could be. They also had sweet potato french fries. It's hard to mess up fried food but at least the food wasn't greasy and it came out to our table pretty quick. The service was... eh. We were seated right next to the bar so at the beginning we were getting pitchers and other misc drinks from the bartender himself but halfway through our stay, we decided to order food. When we asked the bar if we could order food, we got a pretty nasty: "You have a waitress" response from him. He was of no help whatsoever to get us a waitress or even just take our order. Most bartenders are happy to help you out and I'm pretty sure he has a food-function on his register. So that was off-putting. Then when we tried asking our waitress for our check to be added to our bar tab, she said we had to close-out the bar tab and then she can ring us up. Just seems like they could have been a bit more accommodating in consolidating the two. Granted, I understand that two separate people were providing us service, but it seemed really silly to ring us up twice. I feel like this could have been dealt with differently or at least be a bit more patient in explaining rather than playing hot-potato with our business. After closing out tickets on all fronts, we headed out to the patio. The patio area is great! It overlooks a parking lot... and the mighty mo and the weather (though I know not their doing) was just perfect for patio libations. Overall, a decent experience. For it being right smack in the middle of wedding season, a Saturday afternoon with beautiful weather, the service was speedy. The only awkwardness that we experienced was the bartender-waitress-communication mishap. They get an extra star because they serve Boulevard! THANK GOD, something KC-related.

I have tried this establishment several times as they have a great beer selection, particularly impressed that they have Fullers on a proper tap. However, with that being said that does not automatically make them a proper Irish style pub. I went there on a Sunday and asked if I could watch the Liverpool v. Chelsea soccer game and even gave them the channel and I got a look like a cow looking at a new gate. I could understand if the place was packed and everyone was watching the Rams lose but it wasn't. One of the two biggest disappointments I have is that there is no breakfast/brunch or even an Irish breakfast on the menu. I asked and was told that they only do that on St. Patrick's day. Horrible idea! The second and largest disappointment was the food in general. The pub curry was more like curry soup, the fish and chips tasted as if they were from the Gordon's fisherman box and tossed in the microwave the tartar sauce was rancid, and the bangers and mash was the worst! Pretty sure the chef has no taste buds or has never been to a proper Irish style pub and tasted what they should taste like. These things were rubbish and made Vienna sausages look like something from McCormick's. I may stop back in for a pint or two,as my options are limited, but never again will I ask for a menu.

Always good food and good service. Been here many times and always had a good time. They even had free shots one time when we went. There's a cool bank vault you can eat in too
