I don't get up north very often, but I happened to drive by El Taco the other day and saw potential charm (in that hole-in-the-wall sort of way) so we stopped for dinner. As I got closer, I saw the building was branded with "Mexican Villa" which almost made me turn around and get back into the car. I pushed on, however, thinking that maybe this was some sort of experimental restaurant Mexican Villa was running, something that served, you know, Mexican food. Wrong. It was your standard Mexican Villa crap, only with less on the menu, and stickier tables. I ordered the DoesItReallyMatter? platter which came with the standard collection of Mexican Villa ingredients: beans and rice and cheese and some sort of rubberized corn disc filled with even more of the same ingredients, all slathered with a red sauce most closely related to marinara and a layer of iceburg lettuce. It tasted like to a frozen TV dinner that was nuked on HIGH all day. Not horrible, but certainly not good either. I'd just assume cook it in my own microwave (theirs is likely much dirtier) while sitting at home on my couch in my underwear watching Top Chef with my cat. The one saving grace was the hot sauce they had on the tables. It was actually pretty spicy, and totally unlike that sweet and sour bullshit they normally give you! Too bad you had to pay extra for chips. Meh.

Not good. They gave me cold rice. I ask for some that is hot so they just threw it in the microwave. When I got it, it was hot, but it had the consistently mashed potatoes with chunks in it and it was way under seasoned. They also make you buy chips, they don't give you them, like every other Mexican restaurant is Springfield. The chicken taco was sour tasting like the meat was old or it was leftovers. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Especially since there are so many great Mexican restaurants in Springfield.

Picked up 8 meals for a business meeting. They messed up all but two of the orders and even the ones that where made correct were not good tasting. Not a single person had a good thing to say about their meal. Cheap place to eat but not worth the suffering of a poor meal.

Everytime i fly into Springfield I hit this place up. Beef and Cheese Nachos, and 3 Tacos. With their hot and sweet sauces on the side, this is one of my favorite place to hit up.

Oh dear god no...no.....nooooooooo!!!! If you are reading this it's not too late for you. Unfortunatley we couldn't be saved so let our downfall be a warning to all those weary souls traveling down the taste highways and delicious byways of this great world. Under no circumstances should you eat here. If you take your kids to eat here you deserve to have family services put your children into foster care with the Jackson 5 er jackson 4. The building it self is supposed to represent a mexican villa or house and instill a sence of authenticity to you. Instead it pulls off dive Mexican brothel really well. The staff inside would find it difficult to care any less about you. They are merely teenagers collecting a minimum wage check for their inconvenience. We ordered the an enchilada, a burrito, a taco, and a tostado. I would say all were equally bland and tasteless. To say they were unappealing is an understatement. Given the choice between eating this again and eating a piece of white bread covered with warm mayonnaise that has been left out in the sun on a 73 ford pinto dashboard I would choose the bread and mayo sir. And I would consider myself lucky. On an upnote I did like the hot sauce though Sooooo not all bad I guess.

Processed American cheese, unseasoned boiled cubed chicken, and chewy ground beef is what to expect when eating at this establishment. The gentleman I assume as the owner, rolled his eyes at me when I asked them to make a small change to my 3 year olds menu item. Although the cashier/chip bagger lady was pleasant, that's about all you'll get from this place. The food is bad.... Really bad. Don't waste your money.

Its exactly what you would expect from a mexican joint run by white people. The meat in the beef taco was poorly prepared and seasoned ground mystery meat. The cheese tasted like shredded american cheese. It didnt have and good fresh vegi's on in, nor was there pico de gio on it, just cheap cop out salsa. The food was inedible, but it was totally forgetable, and i would most certainly not go there again. If anyone knows of a real authentic Mexican resturaunt in Springfield, please let me know. Iv tried a lot of them and they're all crap.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
