I have only ever had 1 thing here: the chicken salad croissant. It's to DIE FOR. Then lunch special with chips and a drink is $8 or $9 which isn't bad. Huge menu with a ton of different sandwich/pizza options. Seems like a great lunch spot. The guy who works the front counter (possibly the owner) is very friendly. I'm only giving 4 stars because I've never had anything except the chicken salad, so it's not fair of me to say it's a 5 star place. But I love it so much I can't get myself to try anything else when I go.

This is a family run restaurant with a very family feel. It's a great place for lunch, but it can get pretty busy! I always get the club which is piled high with meats and cheese, but I've tried the pizzas and their pretty good, too. Overall, a good lunch option for the South side.

Whatever you are hungry for, Dean and Cindy and Haleigh will have it, including all their good food and a large helping of good spirited fun and if you are interested insights and updates on current events and personalities in sports. Have a Richard burger. Burger, mustard, and pickle relish. Hard to find in these days of triple patties with five kinds of cheese a half pound of bacon, mushrooms, and jalepenos. Enjoy!

The Garden Cafe is a nice little place to grab lunch or dinner. It's very cozy on the inside - a good place to take the kids or meet friends. They have games you can play at the tables. Their menu includes hot and cold sandwiches, salads, burgers, pasta, and pizza. I visited to get a quick lunch to-go on the way back to the office. Service was friendly and fast, and the roast beef sandwich hit the spot.

I can't speak for the subs or salad, but I tried the most basic mini pizza and received a pile of Parmesan powder and soggy wet tomatoes on top of decent crust. Had me wishing I would've stuck with a frozen Digiorno pizza instead.

Love the place. Quick, good and plentiful food. Great selection of gourmet sodas. Also love the family games idea being available while you wait. Get the Hawaiian burger. My boyfriend swears it's the best in town.

We live just down the road from this place (and have for 7 months) before we finally got around to trying it. We were missing out. Garden Cafe brings something a little different to the south side of Springfield. The decor is very American Cafe style... apparently this is a Christian run business as they have posters of several contemporary Christian artists on the wall and had contemporary Christian music playing over the sound system. We had to get the food to go as they were getting ready to close in 15 minutes so I can't comment much more on the dine-in experience. We got a salad, a meatball sub, and a mini-pizza to go so we could sample a few different items. The meatball sub was pretty good with a perfect amount of parmesan on it. The bread had a really nice texture. The pizza was a favorite for both of us (black olive and mushroom). The salad was... heck, it's a salad. The service is friendly. The food is really good without being great. The prices are very reasonable. And, as I mentioned, they offer something different than other place on the south side (unless you feel like hitting up one of the chain places) and do it better than those that do similar things. We'll definitely be back again.

Eat at this place if you live nearby or work nearby, or if you are shopping in that area, but don't drive 20 miles to try it or anything. It's like a lunch spot. You could call it a big, clean, diner, but it's in a new building. If you had visitors or relatives visiting, and if these guests had not brought any dressy clothes with them, this would be an ideal place to take them. Oh, it's probably also a good choice if you have little kids. There are not fine fabrics, tablecloths, mood lighting, and all of that. A mother of elementary-age kids could relax here and enjoy the food.

Dean & his family will take of you. Sit a spell after your meal, tip back a gourmet pop and play a game with your family. It's got that neighborhood eatery feel.

Big salads and good pizza. This place is a nice change of pace for those who are looking for something a little different. Chef salad has pineapple on it and I must say I am now a fan of that. The pizza is definitely one of the better ones I have run into. It was a little on the thin crust side for my liking but the toppings made up for it. Only real downside is no wireless so if you are planning on working while you are there make sure you tether or grab your aircard.

So the "A-OK" seems a little too generous, but the two stars seems a bit too harsh. When will we see half stars? WHEN? Anyways... Yes. This is a bit of a tough location to get to for some lunch, especially when there is tons o' road construction all about National and Republic. We had to make 2 U-Turns to get and leave this place, so if that is your thing... The first thing that struck me about the Garden Cafe was primarily "visual overload". Good luck stepping up the counter your first time here and deciding from the many, many menu items, then spend more time dealing with topping issues for sandwiches, pizzas, and burgers. As mentioned by Keeton C. they are a fine purveyor of vintage/craft/specialty sodas. Make sure you get one of these. They even have Tab and Nehi! I didn't see any Moxie though... The lady ended up getting a Greek Mini Pizza (perfect for lunch), meatball sub, and some toasted raviolis (someone needs to come up with a cutesy name for raviolis-I'm drawing a blank at the moment), a Frostie Vanilla Cream Root Beer (which was god damn delicious) and a Jones Mango something. *Funny story, while waiting at the counter a guy in front of us asked about something with Balsamic Vinegar and the owner replied jokingly "It doesn't fit into our world". This would be funny to someone who isn't Italian or like Italian food. BV is a HUGE part of Italian food. This irked me a little...BV can do good things man! It took quite a relatively long time for our food to come out, considering it wasn't that busy. Also as mentioned by Keeton, there are tons of games around to play. But, they looked kind of dirty, so I stuck to sipping on my Frostie a few drops at a time, which was tough to do since it was so smooth and delicious. I also declined to look at some of the books, even though they had six volumes of the Illustrated Bible there. Finally! Jesus and Italian food! Yes! Instead, while waiting we got to experience eavesdropping on other diner's conversation, which was not stimulating at all unfortunately. And we also had to endure their shitty music mix that was playing. A little pop, a little country, a little trashy-rock, a little rap pop. All of it gross and out of place for a small, home town restaurant. Eventually we got our food and I was oddly impressed at how hot it wasn't. My meatball sandwich had beautifully toasted bread, but it wasn't hot, it was just past luke warm. The bread was the best I've ever had on a meatball sammy and the owner confirmed that no one else gets that sandwich bread around here. Somebody might want to verify that. But, the meatballs were dangerously typical and bland, the sauce too watery, and there was HARDLY any cheese. I discovered it baked into nothingness on the underside of the bread when I seasoned it up. Also, there was way too much parmesan, and not enough herbs to help the meat and sauce. The pizza was the same way with temperature, and we were a little bummed that they did not offer Greek, kalameto olives, only those cheap ass black ones (C'mon "Greek Pizza"). There was hardly any sauce on the pizza and the dough was super doughy. Despite this, it was still a very tasty pizza. Cook this thing on a pizza stone, add some sauce and serve it HOT and you might have a bad ass pizza on your hands. But his way...meh. Our toasted raviolis were OK, but nothing that blew me away. One side of all ours were over toasted so it had poor texture when biting into it. It reminded me of when you fry an egg for too long on one side and you can cut through the top, but not the back. I did not care for the side marinara sauce to be served cool. I also feel I need to report some of the owner's and I's conversation about the food. I was curious about the bread so I asked learned about the supposed exclusivity. Here I also learned that the meatballs are not made in house. Evidently they don't have the time between his wife and he to make them everyday. I can see why because of the billion choices for lunch...They also make SOME of the soups in house, some are restaurant prepped soups, so don't give them too much credit if a soup rocks there. The burgers are made with Black Angus Chuck, which they patty (so I'm told) there. It was interesting that he wanted to "conquer" the meatball after having some dude's sandwich from Chicago 15 years or so ago. That's cool but you don't "conquer" a meatball sandwich by using other people's meatballs, weak sauce, and serving it luke warm. So. In summation, I didn't feel the Garden/Cafe vibe here-there is way too much stuff around to order. Maybe I've been watching Tony Bourdain too much or Triple D to be this demanding in Springfield, but I don't think so! Trim the menu and spend more time/love with fewer things to make them special. Until then, this place is just mediocre.

I work right down the street so we frequent the Garden Cafe for lunch. They do have a large variety of food to choose from. First timers it's better to go at non-peak hours so you can stand and look and read. I love creating my own sandwich, always good. The burgers are great. The soups are very good. They do make their own chicken and dumpling which is awesome and comes with the best darn breadstick. The raviolis are good, too. Also like their chicken salad - usually in a meal deal special on the little bulletin board. Also a must mention are the cookies. They are so yummy. I'm not a big pop drinker but there are 100 different kinds it seems and lots of chips to choose from. Lovely local owners, great atmosphere.

Know the original creator of this restaurant and it has passed to good hands finally. Great variety subs and individual sized pizzas - I prefer them much better than Quizno's, Schlotsky's or Subway. If you had a Potbelly's, that would be a tougher debate. But you don't so go here and support local biz. A tough location to work from though (not much visibility).

This place has a variety of Sandwiches, Pizzas, and Toasted Rav on the menu. My favorite is the toasted rav, there are several different kinds for about 5 bucks. The guy that owns it is always there and really friendly. One of his passions is rare and specialty sodas which he carries a HUGE selection of. Also, there's a bunch of board games to play if your dieing to play one.
