Epic meal. This upscale dining room was welcoming if a bit loud. The entire staff was attentive to our table despite the busy Wednesday evening. We used yelp's reservation app since we were driving thru with no trouble. 8 Oz filet was spot on rare, (which is seldom accommodated when a female orders in my experience). Twice baked potato included was a flavorful starch balance. House red wines were palatable but upon return I will stick with labels. Ribeye was superbly carmelized with rich dry aged flavor, slightly lean in the middle with a healthy ribbon of crisp fat around the edge. My husband was astounded at the quality and extremely pleased. Side of asparagus was al dente, and jalapeño mashed potatoes were just flavorful not spicy. Cheesecake was a great finale, rich and smooth with exceptional crust that left us wanting to come back to Flame soon.

Flame is my go to restaurant in Springfield when I want an excellent meal done with style. Service is excellent, food is good, and wine and cocktails tasty. I've had good luck with servers willing to accommodate a variety of requests. I highly recommend the Oysters Rockefeller. Have your server bring you some Tabasco and you are in for a treat. Steaks are great, but the bone-in filet is the winner. The wine list is extensive, and the by the glass selection is nice. There are some good pinots that pair nicely. And mercifully, the staff knows that red wine needs to be kept at cellar temps, not room temp, so your pinot or cab will not be warm and tasteless. And a bottle of Veuve Cliquot at $90 is a great way to celebrate. A word of advice for those from out of town: do not judge Flame or any high end restaurant in Springfield by NYC, Chicago, or LA standards. EVERY high end restaurant in town will pale in comparison. If you can suspend judgment and simply accept that you are in podunk, you will find your experience here top notch. And yes, there are people wearing shorts in the nicest restaurants in Springfield. Yep.

The food was incredible, but our service could have been better. I made reservations (via open table) to celebrate my fiancée's birthday. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine, the salmon+crab dip appetizer, lobster mac n' cheese, and steaks. My filet mignon was overcooked for medium rare, but it and the sides were still tasty. The KC Strip was perfectly cooked. I like crab, but I'm not sure I would recommend making your steak "Oscar." I think I was most disappointed by the service. I had mentioned in my reservation that we were celebrating my fiancée's birthday. I went back and forth about doing so, but places of this caliber normally know how to handle celebration tastefully. Our server made no mention of it, and he didn't even ask if there was a special occasion for our evening, as I heard another waiter do. He seemed very distracted for most of our time at the restaurant. Being the youngest couple in the restaurant, I honestly wondered if we didn't "matter" as much. It just wasn't the kind of service I've come to scale from comparable establishments.

Delicious! Our steaks were seasoned perfectly and they were accommodating even when we arrived late full bar and good variety of wine list .... Would definitely come again!

Just left a corporate dinner held in the private dining area. I'm from Vegas and this place definitely rivals any restaurant in Vegas-in service, style and cuisine!!! If I could I'd pick this place up and move it to my backyard. If you're in Speingfield-it's a must for a great dinner! The main dining area is absolutely charming and very warm and welcoming. Bookmarked!

Best steak house in Springfield. Outstanding appetizers, wine selection, seafood and steaks. Pricey but worth it for special occasions or just a really great meal. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and extremely well trained. My wife and I went here on our first date and then got engaged there a year and a half later so it is is hard for me to be completely objective. Very nice, quiet, sophisticated atmosphere. Beware: the appetizers are amazing and very large so pace yourself so you do not fill up before the amazing main courses.

I have read a lot of mixed reviews for Flame, which honestly surprises me. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Springfield, and it is definitely on par with great steakhouses around the country. Food: Flame dry ages their beef for 21 days, a process that not only tenderizes the meat, but locks in an incredible amount of flavor. They don't waste the steak by cooking it on a grill. Instead, they broil it at 1500 degrees, and take the time to allow the meat to rest, which is an essential step to having tender steak. My steak recommendation: 8oz fillet, medium-rare, Pittsburgh style. Have this served with whatever side you want (I really like all their sides, but I particularly enjoy the twice baked potato and the fresh cut smoked fries.) Drink: They have a really great wine list and a full bar, too, if you're interested in drinks. If that is all you want, you can sit at the bar, and they have a traditional happy hour. Ambiance and wait staff: The whole restaurant is dimly lit--perfect for dates or business meetings--and every server I have experienced has been excellent. Finding restaurants with incredible servers can be a tricky thing. If the server is too pushy or ever-present, it ruins the experience. If she/he is never around when you need them, obviously the experience is ruined, too. Flame has great, well educated, and elegantly subtle servers. For Springfield, MO (a place that is finally starting to embrace a little culture) Flame is a great restaurant. It should have its place next to the great steakhouses around the country.

I had avoided Flame for the longest time because I had received several reports from friends that the fare was above average, but the masquerade of a metropolitan steak house came with prices that scaled even higher. On a whim, I decided to find out myself last Saturday evening. Before I entered, I walked past the small valet lot to the east of the building where attentive college students were parking and retrieving vehicles. If there is inclement weather or if a party member has chosen footwear not meant for longer walks, this might be a worthwhile option. I happened upon a great spot on South, so my commute was a short 2-block stroll. I checked in as a single and was informed the wait for a table in the main dining area was 40 minutes, which was not a huge surprise since it was First Friday (a fact I had not considered earlier). Reservations are apparently recommended, and they are accepted both via phone and on their website. Even the main bar was at capacity, so I was directed down a spiral staircase to the Red Room The Red Room is a downstairs lounge which features tall 2-top tables, normal 4-tops, a bar, and some communal seating areas. The lighting/decor is closer to a club than a restaurant, and I learned they have a DJ come in some nights, so while it might be good for a group, if you're on date and want quiet conversation, you might stay upstairs. It seems to serve as both an overfill/waiting room for the main dining area and a place where drink specials and lower-priced, smaller-portion dishes can be offered to serve an alternative clientele than the primary dining experience. Thankfully, it also serves the full "upstairs" menu as well. After grabbing the last seat on the bar, I was promptly welcomed by the bartender and given a requested food menu. It is a single large double-sided sheet (available on their website), and in keeping with the gourmet theme, has fewer options than something like a chain restaurant. I selected the 14oz ribeye steak (medium-rare, advertised 25-day wet aged and 21-day dry aged) with lyonnaise potatoes, a choice that was praised by a fellow bar patron who had just finished a nearly identical meal and was very satisfied with his decision. While I waited for my food, the bartender kept easy conversation with everyone in his charge. I asked him for his recommendation of a simple tequila drink, and after a few questions regarding my preferences, he served me a Milagro reposado on the rocks with a splash of lime, which was spot on. When the entree came, it was blessedly simple: a thick steak with olive oil and seasoning on a white plate paired with potatoes served in a small cast iron pan. It's refreshing to see a restaurant with the "gourmet" title confident enough in its ingredients and process to not add a glaze, garnish construct, or something else "exotic" to appease the foodies. The steak appeared to be broiled and was medium-rare bordering on rare, which I expect from a proper steak house. The potatoes were a good mixture of textures with crispy edges and soft flesh, and both they and the accompanying sauteed onions were heavily seasoned, which I prefer. An aside: I grew up eating fresh grain-fed beef raised by my grandfather, so I rarely get steaks at restaurants since I'm nearly always disappointed. This ribeye came relatively close to those cuts of yesteryear in terms of flavor and impressed me quite a bit with its tenderness. Simply aging a steak this long doesn't automatically mean good results, but if my meal is any indication, they know what they're doing in both their kitchen and their aging room. Whoever trimmed my piece left just enough fat on the edge to add an extra bit of flavor to each sliced piece. It was cooked fairly uniformly throughout and had just a hint of char on the edges. The seasoning was light and worked with the oil to enhance the flavor of the meat, not overpower it. With my top-shelf tequila drink, the whole meal ended up being just over $50 before tip, which I consider a decent value for the quality of the fare. I would have preferred a quiet table to a bar seat, but that was my fault for not making a reservation, and the bartender and other patrons were jovial enough to make it a fun evening. My favorite steak in Missouri is still found in Kansas City, but this is the best one I've had in Springfield by a fairly wide margin, so I'll definitely be back to try other entrees and the ambiance of the main dining area.

Always love a good steak from Flame. Exceptional service for Springfield, and arguably the best restaurant in town. Perfect for business dinners. I have eaten here multiple times, and have never had a bad experience. I would recommend it to anyone.

Used to "city" prices, so that part I was used to. Service was slow to start (got there 6:01p, server first appeared at 6:15) but during the meal he was pleasant and helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine, and our food, all came as ordered. Here's my "meh". I asked about the crab cakes-best ever or just ok? Best ever. Not even close. They were over the top bready and SO not worth nearly $14. Plus, now my tummy feels bad-too much bread, not enough crab. It's very popular as the place was full when we left, I'm sure the steaks are the draw-which I don't eat, but other choices $17 for 4 "jumbo" shrimp (insert oxymoron) is what I should've ordered if I wanted limited breading. I think the old adage is true, order steak at a steak place. If you don't eat steak, then order the thing with the fewest ingredients, then it's harder to mess up. Service was good, as it should be for this price point. I just want the wait person to be an expert for this price point-and tell me that the crab cakes are bready, and cakey-not moist, crab filled and tasty...as they should be. I might be a bit bitter, I was just hoping the "best ever" part was true. Oh!, and apparently there's a terrific deal if you get there before 6p in the "red room", but if you get there at 6:01, fegetaboutit.

We came here as a group, so my experience differs from the dinning room. The group events manager was great to work with and the private room was really nice, with it's own entrance, bar, and bathroom. I came late on appetizers and none were really standouts to me. I would've liked to try more of the mussels but they seemed difficult to deal with the way served. I like lots of broth and I didn't see a serving spoon. Staff seemed really nice and totally ready to help at all times. The steaks were really really good. The potato was huge. I'm not really a potato person, but it seemed dry. The asparagus was funny as there were only three spears. Most of us are pretty healthy eaters and would have much rather had more asparagus, but it wasn't that big a deal. There were desserts, mini-ones, served to each as an assortment. I don't really remember any as spectacular, but it was nice. Back to the steak. The steak was really really good, and really nicely done. I know there are other things on the menu, from what I saw, this place scores best on it's steakhouse traditional items.

Our second visit, our daughter is attending college in Springfield. Made an open table reservation. Used the valet parking since is was pouring when we arrived. Greeted and seated. Nice table. Started with couple bar cocktails, and shrimp cocktails. Added calamari. Ryan our waiter was very good. Never rushed and very informative. Salads next, the wedge was great authentic blue cheese. The bearded wine steward was a really nice funny guy. That the zin he recommended was fantastic a bonus. Steaks were prefect, a bone-in ribeye, regular ribeye and two filets grilled and presented as ordered. Smoked fries and baked potatoes wonderful. Save room for dessert, and the coffee was not an afterthought really really good. We'll be back.

For a Friday night and the price we paid, we were expecting better service. NO TEAM WORK among the waiters and staff. Our waiter had to make 3 trips to table to deliver our dinner. Bus service and wait service stopped the second we placed our order. There is a reason why their were a lot of empty tables. Hostesses were fantastic and very complimentary, they even opened the door for us!!!!

We really enjoyed ourselves here and find it compares favorably with some of the best New York City steakhouses. The sides were particularly good: truffle corn, jalapeno mashed potatoes, ginormous onion rings, lobster mac and cheese. Drinks were fine. Service was very good. Ambiance was fine, dark and clubby.

Came to flame for Saturday date night and had a mixed experience. It wasn't busy, but they take a lot of reservations - we were told we'd have a 15 minute wait, so we waited at the bar. (They forgot about us, so we were there for around 35 minutes until we finally asked.) We didn't really mind because the downstairs bartender, Dylan I think, was great. We had old fashioneds and he told us all about the menu and gave some recommendations. They sat us at what was obviously the least desirable table in the restaurant, but again, we didn't really mind. Our waiter was really awkwardly rude. I would assumed he didn't speak English if I didn't see him chatting with other tables. Plus, he was about 10 feet tall and never once looked us in the eyes. He never said a word about the menu and we actually had to flag him down after about 20 minutes to ask if we could order a bottle of wine. My boyfriend and I look pretty young, so I assume he thought we'd be poor tippers and wasn't giving us the time of day (self-fulfilling prophecy... he hardly earned the 18% we left him.) When we asked for to-go boxes, he just dumped all our food in a pile in one box. Our steaks, sides, and salmon+crab dip appetizer were really quite good - we went with the bartender's recommendations. The wedge salad was basically a giant puddle of dressing, which I don't recommend. Ambiance, even from our are crummy, back-alley table was romantic for us. Although, if it were a first date, it might have been a little awkward sitting in the dark wedged between busy foot traffic and a railing, sitting 3 feet apart. Generally left a bad taste in my mouth because of the waiter, so I don't think I'll be back, but I can't give an overall bad review. Make a reservation.

My fiancé took me here on our first date, and with him being a chef and me not used to fancy restaurants, I was really looking forward to it. The atmosphere was very intimate and perfect for a date, first or hundredth. The food was wonderful. It impressed my chef, which is hard to do sometimes, because knowing so much about food can cause dining out to not be such a great experience ~ always critical. We always seem to try to crab cake, salmon cake, or in Flame's case, the shrimp cake everywhere we go ~ on a mission to try them all I guess. And Flame has a great one. The filet medallions were excellent, which we expected, and I am a fan of creamed spinach, so this one didn't disappoint. The restaurant has won local fan favorite awards, and I can see why.

Was at the restaurant last Saturday. Mixed reviews. I had the 24 oz wet aged porterhouse medium rare. My wife had the salmon. By her report it was excellent! I was very disappointed. The strip side was very stringy and hard to cut. The filet portion was overcooked and mealy. The lyonnaise potatoes were very overcooked. The glass of house Merlot was harshly biting. On the positive side, the Creme Brulee was exquisite.

We started our meal with the king crab/smoked salmon dip, but we weren't impressed. For someone not used to fresh seafood it might be appetizing, but being someone who is used to fresh caught and smoked seafood this was just an overpriced dip COVERED in cheese. Our steaks however were delicious, probably the best ribeye I have ever had. The steaks came with three different sauces, the horseradish sauce being our favorite. My husbands smoked fries were also amazing but my mashed potatoes weren't something I'd order again. Those too were covered in cheese and something you can make better at home. When we were almost done with our meal the waiter brought out a popover and two mini raspberry muffins that I guess were supposed to come at the beginning of our meal, but were a nice way to end the meal. The husband and I were pretty full from dinner and didn't order dessert so I can't speak for area of the menu. The atmosphere was relaxing and with the darkness of the restaurant you almost feel like it is just you and your dining partners, which was wonderful. Overall, we will definitely be back when spending date night in Springfield. But as others have mentioned, expect to spend around $150 for two people.

Without a doubt the best calamari I have ever had. Very different but they use the thinker, more meat. Shaped like fingers but oh do good. Steak was great, their style is it crisp up the outer skin and moist inside. Not my favorite style, but it is what they say and if that style is yours you would give it a five. Location, lighting, seats and service all excellent.

Flame is a decent Steakhouse, nothing special (unless you consider the meat wall decorations special). For a steakhouse their drinks and food are average. Prices are average for a steakhouse, which is to say, in rayman's terms over-priced. A good place to take a date if you're trying to impress him/her by spending money, but if he/she's worth it they'll see through it anyway. Even in Springfield there are a million better places to take a date. Being surrounded by hanging meat isn't my idea of romantic but YMLV. Meal was standard. Calamari teaser was good. Service was slow.

Great steak house. Prices are high but the quality was there. Took my girl here for her birthday. Made email reservations weeks in advance and got confirmation. Get to the flame about 10 minutes before my reservation and low and behold they don't even have my name. They got us a cramped table against the upstairs railing when I see nice table after nice table giggling at my misfortune. Not nice Flame, not nice. Now to the food. I had the Fillet Medallions with candied bacon. Yup the steak was cook to perfection and the flavors were sweet, salty, and delicious. I had the jalapeno potatoes on the side and an ala carte order of lobster mac. Jalapeno potatoes were ok but the lobster Mac was very good. The lady had 14oz Ribeye and loved every bit of it. We also had the calamari fries and they were ok but forgetable. Deep fried and heavy. I should have got something lighter as a starter as the whole meal was an exercise is heavy foods. Great flavor but heavy. She also had a wedge salad and though it was ok, but the star for her by far was the steak. Next time we think the seafood is going have to be an addition. Big stars for food but reservation process needs work.

A hidden gem in downtown Springfield. We stopped as we were passing through on our way to Oklahoma, and very glad we did. Steaks were excellently aged and prepared. Salads were fresh and the service was impeccable. Highly recommended.

I've had 25 day dry aged 14oz rib eye. I'm 40, and traveled across Europe and such. This is by far the best meat I've had in a restaurant, period. I almost finished the while thing. Was amazing, great truffle corns, lobster (yes I said lobster) main cheese. Yum!!

Though I only stepped in for a few minutes to pick up my take-out order, I can tell you that the ambiance is embodied by dim lights and rich, romantic colors, making this a good date night spot. Staff I interacted with - the lady who took my order over the phone and the bartender who settled my bill - was all very friendly. The mussels were flavorful and came with the fluffiest sourdough bread bowl ever! If I didn't know there's a gluten heaven, I now know. Of course, I had to try the lobster mac 'n cheese and was pleasantly surprised at the lobster flavor. One area Flame could pay more attention to is cutting back on the salt. Boy, after eating my dinner, I was 110% certain that I got more than my share of salt for the day.

While traveling to Springfield Il. for a car show event we stopped in Springfield Mo for dinner. The manager at the hotel recommended the Flame Steakhouse. I cant say enough good things about this place, beautiful ambiance and the food was one of the best meals we have ever had anywhere, we have ordered Escargot at many fine eateries but this was the best....so good that we asked the chef to come over so we could compliment him...Will the chef and our waiter and our waiter John made this even more enjoyable....highly recommend this establishment...great drinks and an impressive wine selection.... As goog as it gets!

Oh man. Went for Happy Hour around the holidays while we were in town. I have been dreaming of the steak tartare for months. It was meh. The carpaccio was kind of gross - gigantic pieces, impossible to cut. The tacos (HH menu) were like jerky. There was some kind of soda and cinnamon in the Old Fashioned (the rest of the drinks were good.) I think we ordered the entire HH menu and my favorite of the night were the little burger sliders. Was very disappoint. Doubtful whether we will be back for the $$$.

Here is an updated review of the Red Room downstairs: Warning: Do not calorie count in the Red Room. It has come to my attention that Yelp reviews of the Red Room can be outdated as this establishment changed the happy hour menu. The menu is still a 3/4/5 premises before 6pm Monday-Saturday. However, the awesome calamari is no longer on the menu. BOO! My husband, my parents and I came down to the Red Room this past Friday night for dinner. We didn't order any alcohol and guess what-- our waitress was just fine with that. I truly appreciate bars that accommodate those who choose not to drink at that time and give those patrons the same service as the rest of their customers. We all ordered a burger and a side, plus an extra order of fried pickles for dinner. Personally, I ordered the Juicy Lucy. I rarely ever eat red meat, but man, was that burger delicious! Of course, I topped it with the smoky ketchup, dijon mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and jalapenos. The burger itself was rich and like the name, juicy. I appreciated the size of the burger and the toasted bun. Overall, splendid for just $4. I also ordered a side of fried pickles. What? I'm a woman. Of course, I ordered the fried pickles. These babies were piping hot and served with a side of ranch for only $3. I enjoyed that the batter didn't overpower the pickle itself, just complimented it (as it should be). Try dipping these in the truffle aoili. It's da bomb! ps. I really enjoyed my husband's salt and vinegar fries. The fries didn't leave you scrounging for water or a dip to cover up the amount of delicious, artery-clogging sodium. The condiment bar was fresh, convenient, and not overbearing like it could have been. I'm interested in trying the portabella burger on my next visit!

Flame is a great restaurant. A real Springfield staple. At this restaurant, Galili prepares for you some of the finest steaks in the city and I would argue in Missouri. The wine list pairs very nicely with the food as well. The popovers are some of the best in the country. When done at the restaurant, the added treat is Red Room Lounge, which is very fun. The full menu is also available in the lounge so you could even have a more casual meal downstairs. If you're lucky enough to leave work before 6, the happy hour specials are great. The ambience is great and so is the staff. Recommend giving this place a try.

This place was fantastic! We had the filet medallions - cooked just the way I liked.Melt in your mouth steak with some candied bacon. AMAZING! We also had the creamed spinach and the jalapeno cheddar mashed potatoes. The creme brulee for dessert. Our waiter was really helpful and friendly, with a great sense of humor. it is a bit pricey but the place is not stuffy at all. Not some place I can eat every week, but certainly a place to go for a steak and a splurge!

This review will keep to the Red Room located in the depths of Flame ... quite literally the bowels of the restaurant. A travel down the spiral staircase can easily be likened to moving through the large intestine. At the base of the staircase, you are spilled forth into inexplicable darkness that seems to pulsate in a radioactive red tone. Once fully contained within the space, it took a few minutes for the eyes to adjust and to become somewhat aware of the surroundings. The place is far too dark, especially for the famed burger happy hour in which one will be consuming food. This uncomfortable blackness that hangs in the air seems like an easy way to present unattractive plates, since you genuinely can't even see what you are eating. Another fear of mine regarding this red wonderland is that if you were to turn on all the lights, the place would be blotted in vomit stains. Moving on... While I have been here a handful of times for the happy hour and even for drinks over the past three years, it seems to have become more popular while the food and atmosphere have become less desirable. During the most recent experience, we sat down at one of several dirty tables (as no other options were available). It took several minutes to get noticed, and the service while friendly was constantly apologizing for things gone amiss (dirty table, slow order, lack of attention etc....). The burger was pretty mediocre and dry. For the measly asking price I guess I didn't mind. But the accompanying fry logs that were rolled through a desert of cajun seasoning sent me into a coughing fit. They were so over seasoned that it was actually humorous. On the subject of humor, the type of people that tend to frequent such a place provide the comic relief for the whole experience. It is laughable the way some people get gussied up to get a 3 dollar burger at 5 in the afternoon. Not to mention that no one can even see you in such dim conditions... unless you ornament yourself in the disco ball look of fake plastic jewels. (Believe it or not, their were some ladies' tops that fit this description) This setting while tacky is tolerable in the company of friends who are as easily adept to making jokes about this garishly clad location. But jokes soon lose their charm, as they should. I forgot to mention, but for a "happy hour" this place doesn't even offer any beer specials.. A lousy boulevard wheat will rob you of $5.50. You can't even get drunk here affordably to make everything appear better. This is truly the place to go when you don't really want to be seen. It reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld where Jerry constantly takes his girl to the same dimly lit corner booth at the coffee shop because it's the only place she looks radiant... Despite my negative sentiment for the Red Room, I think I'd like to eat at Flame sometime, just to experience it. (Look for a review update in the distant future when I have some real fliff). For now, this is as close as many of us can get to the pricey dining experience that Flame promises to be.Though the sorry Red Room experience hasn't instilled an overwhelming will to venture up to Flame.... or return to its lower level accessory.

Food and service were outstanding. I gave it 5 stars even though I thought the aged steak was just ok. The sides were very good.

One of the best filets I've ever had. Cooked perfectly and tons of flavor. Yes, this place is pricey, but it was worth every cent. This would be my go-to steak joint if I lived in the area.

Flame is just that on fire. I have been going there for about a year now and business just keeps picking up. First you have the upstairs, a 4 star restaurant and steakhouse. But not like the normal steakhouse's in SW MO I mean upscale. All of there beef is aged on the premises and is exquisite. They cook there steaks at 1500 degrees, so I should probably use the word sear. The flavor is fabulous and wait staff is great. They have a smoked salmon appetizer that you have to try. For two people wine, appetizer, entree, and dessert will run anywhere from $125-$225 for a full meal, it is worth every penny. Now if you want to relax a little more walk downstairs into the Red-Room for early and late happy hour. Food specials of hamburger and fries or calamari for $3 or quesadilla for $6. 1/2 priced drinks and comfortable seating makes it a great place to go out with friends or to unwind after a long day. At times it does get very busy and the wait staff is rushed, but it's all worth it for the decor and ambiance.

We usually have a group that goes down for happy hour on Thursday night. You can get an awesome huge burger and fries for under 4 bucks. That along with their drink specials, swank ambiance, and kick ass staff makes it a lot of fun. Make sure you ask for their vinegar fries and some of their home made ketchup, it great.

My wife and I love, Love, LOVE this place! If you like good steaks and local, old-school charm- this is your place. The filet is always fantastic! The American Onion soup is out of this world and their Lyonaise Potatoes and their Salt and Vinegar Fries are to die for. This is an incredible, locally owned place with tons of downtown charm!

Each time I have been here, I was impressed by the knowledge and service of the wait staff. The food is exceptional, but with that comes an "exceptional" price. We can never get out of this place for less than $50 a person - we're talking one drink, the cone of fries, entree and side, tax....Poof, you're at $50 - not including tip.

Flame is a high end steakhouse in the middle of Downtown Springfield. They specialize in steaks which are very very good. Their steaks comes with plenty of options for sides and I would have to say that their Cheddar mashed potatoes are good as well as their Salt & Pepper fries. However -1 star for their caesar salad which was pathetic in my opinion. The "salad" consisted of 3 leaves of romaine some parmesean and a couple of croutons. The dressing was non-existent.

Red Room- My favorite happy hour in Springfield.$10 gets two glasses of boulevard, and hamburger w/ fries. Better deals elsewhere but a steal for the quality you get at Flame.

I've had steaks at some of the best steakhouses in America and I think Flame stands up to any of them. The wedge salad is fantastic. My wife can split the wedge salad, the lobster mac n cheese and the porterhouse and get out of there for around 50 bucks. Let's see The Palm do that!

It was good. Service was very good. Very good steak, beefsteak tomato salad was very good. Good drinks, great wine list. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. It was busy on a Wednesday night so that says something good about the place. Funky but fun decor - the bar/lounge downstairs was very interesting - must be the place to be on Thurs/Fri/Sat - wasn't sure if I was walking into a bordello or what with all the red decor and lights...people were having fun though! I'd definitely go back.

Ate here with colleagues while on a business trip (probably wouldn't have gone if I was paying on my own dime). The setting and decor is really yuppy (not really my style, but some people are into that. Definitely unexpected for Springfield, in comparison to all the other restaurants we went to). They take your jacket for you, there's water running down the walls, and the lighting is dimmed. I had the bistro medallions (what caught my eye was the "wrapped in sugar bacon"). Oh man, it was good. My meal was better than my colleagues' steaks. The sides are pretty big portions. They serve good bread in the beginning - they gave us both mini cupcakes (yes, like dessert!), and "regular" pre-dinner bread. The waiter was able to answer all of our questions, about the food and the drinks. He provided some good recommendations for drinks also. It was easily the most expensive meal we had in Springfield, but those bistro medallions were worth it.

Enjoyed this place very much. My husband got the steak medalions and i got the ahi tuna... Both very good. I was already sold on their starter, peanut butter and jelly muffins... Gahhh.. to die for!! Service was good but they seemed a little insipid upstairs. I might try the people in the red room next time.

Love going to Flame. Starts out great with little muffins, then the steaks are always excellent, fish is always fresh, and I love the fries and side sauces. Creme Brulee is delicious for desert. Great atmosphere! Knowledgable and attentive staff. However, it is a little expensive, but for a special occasion it is a great meal.

Great steaks, great service go somewhere else for desert. The service here is very good. I would say it is among my top 5 for Springfield. They are courteous and very friendly. They are also very knowledgeable about most things on the menu only mistepping once when he said the wine expert (we call them sommeliers where I come from) suggested a particular wine. That wine was rubbish but the one the waiter recommended was very good. The steak was a porterhouse and anyone who knows steak knows this is the Cadillac of steaks, it is big, heavy, and once it hits you it will wreck you. It was done perfectly, I would say this is in fact my favorite cut and they did an awesome job. They used just the right amount of simple seasonings and heat to ensure a wonderful experience. Best in Springfield. They sides were tasty but nothing to write home about, I was a little disappointed in the lyonnaise potatoes as they were a bit over done. They reminded me of chips at that point. The rice pilaf was ok but most others are better. The deserts are where they really dropped the ball, the bananas foster was a joke, you should be ashamed of yourself for calling it that Flame. I know bananas foster and you sir are no bananas foster you are an impostor and a charlatan. You took something beautiful with rum, bananas, sugar, ice cream and fire and turned into something cheap and dirty. You should hang your head in shame this travesty of a desert has cost you your mothers love. They berry plate looked good though. All in all a great steak with good service and a nice wine. I would recommend this for a night out or any occasion where you like it dark, romantic, and a little sexy, so yeah it's perfect for that business dinner with the pharmaceutical rep....or your significant other that works too.

My wife selected Flame for our four year anniversary dinner. We were looking for somewhere new to go that would cater to her food allergies (gluten and lactose), and I'd been lamenting the lack of good steak in my life for some time. The long and short of it is that the food was excellent, though I prefer my steak less crisp on the outside. They made it perfectly, and it was very good, I just cook mine differently. They were out of the ribeye, so they brought me a lobster tail with my KC Strip (I'm not a fan of strip steaks, but I wasn't willing to go from a 14 oz. steak up to the 24 oz. porterhouse), and the service was overall fantastic. Our waiter, Jace, was really amazing, and he did a great job checking with the chef and making sure everything was just right. My wife enjoyed the filet, and the waiter recommended a pretty good bottle of wine to accompany the meal. The shrimp cocktail as an appetizer was good as well. However, I give Flame four stars due largely to the price. It was fancy, and excellent, but I'm pretty sure we could have driven to Chicago and had a nice meal for the same price of eating at Flame in Springfield. And compared to going to Harter House and buying a bottle of wine and a couple of steaks... But the service was great, and for a special evening, I would definitely recommend Flame. Regarding the waitstaff and service, combined with the food, I'd say it's the best nice restaurant I've been to in Springfield. Be sure to ask for Jace as your waiter!

While definitely not an everyday destination for the budget-conscious, Flame does provide an excellent upscale menu with a heavy emphasis on their custom aged beef steaks. Both my wife and I had steak (she the filet, I the medallions), and we agreed that it was, probably, the best we'd ever tasted. The atmosphere, too, was great for an anniversary dinner out. My only real complaint, and the reason it's receiving three stars instead of four or even five, is the paltry amount of pre-meal "bread" items provided. Two small lemon-poppyseed muffins and just one bread roll (that said, the maple-walnut butter was fabulous), was all we got. Seems like for just over $70 for two people (entrees only), at least one roll per person doesn't seem like too much to ask. One other very minor complaint I had, and this is really just about my personal preferences on this particular menu item, was that the batter on the onion rings was a bit too "bready" for my taste--though, my wife thought they were great. I also wasn't impressed with their dipping sauces for the rings, either; though, I'm partial to mustard-based sauces with my onion rings. The twice-baked potato my wife had with her entree was fantastic, however. Bottom-line, If you love steak and aren't going to balk at paying between $24-50 for just an entree and side, and aren't a big fan of bread (hey, Paleo people!), I highly recommend checking this place out, at least once.

If this is what they call prime beef in Mo then I will pass on eating beef in this town. I had the 24 ounce bone in Ribeye and I could buy that cut of meat at the local grocer and prepare it better. Weird seasoning and TOUGH. They give you a saw for a knife because you need it to cut into the meat. I have had bone in prime Ribeye many times and been able to cut it with my fork. Lucky to get 2 stars except everybody was friendly while they served the substandard meat.

First, the good. The Hot Platter appetizer was great. The calamari were fried to perfection, crab cakes were delicious, and the mushrooms delectable. The 3 sauces that come with the appetizer are not to be missed. Our waiter was wonderful. He really knew his wine and made sure we were doing well without being obtrusive. And now the bad. The steak was so so. Quite honestly, Argentina Steakhouse has much better and less expensive meat. Also, it comes with a lot more sides there. The lighting was very poor. I do understand the concept of atmosphere lighting and dimming the lights to make the room appear more intimate. But the lighiting was so poor that I couldn't read the menu and kept dropping the food because I couldn't see it. The worst part was the temperature in the restaurant. It was 92F in the restaurant! We kept asking the staff to turn up the A/C but with no success. In fact, another waiter proudly proclaimed that it's 65Fin the Red Room Lounge. Ok, that's great but I'm paying premium to eat at the restaurant so I would hope that I can enjoy my $40 steak without dripping sweat on it. Well, Flame, you are a little bit too full of yourself. I will definitely seeking my culinary satisfaction somewhere else.

Great spot after a long day of traveling. They broil their aged steaks, which usually isn't my favorite, but the bone in filet was awesome. You'll begin with some crazy PB&J muffins with maple butter...phenomenal. Nice wine list and highly recommend the sweet corn (with truffle oil) side. Still eating my way through the menu, but definitely a must stop in Springfield.

I really enjoy flame. For several reasons. The calamari is cut into thick strips and deep fried - a unique take on calamari, but very good. The dry aged steak is amazing, and probably the best I've had in Springfield. I also tried the salmon - it was great - not better than most other places, but still great. It was topped with crab with gave it a nice touch. The wine list is extensive, although as self-professed wine snobs, my boyfriend and I brought our own bottle. The corking fee is only $10 which is a great, fair, price. Parking is monitored for customers only, which is great downtown on a Saturday night. The atmosphere is good, but the tables are jammed in together and some are in pretty awkward locations. You do need a reservation on the weekend, so plan ahead. Also, I think it's just a few dollars over-priced. I'm not opposed to paying a lot for a dinner, especially a good dinner, but things aren't quite worth what they charge here. A very good restaurant though, and a must-try for Springfieldians.

Steaks were good, not great, just good. The service was good, not great, just good. The price was HIGH, NOT low, just really, really HIGH!! I am not opposed to dropping a couple of bills on dinner and wine with the wife, But it better be OUTSTANDING. Fancy place, well trained waiter, but not worth the price for the food. I was disappointed in the flavor of my steak. My wife also wasn't impressed. I have been to two other spots in the city that are heads and tails above FLAME. Not sure of the hype in the other reviews but save your well earned cash and find another place for a high end dinner.

Their Happy Hour Burgers are to die for. I've eaten all over the world and I cannot believe my favorite Burger is in Springfield MO..who would of thought, but it is. The Burger is juicy and very filling, it Taste like a 10 dollar burger. I miss this place and their Happy Hour Heavenly Burger. Also it is a good place to meet up with friends and have some martinis. Just make sure your not driving home, ok.

The best french fries I've ever had! The rest of our order was great too but the fries were AWESOME! Plus they have yummy dipping sauces for them :) I also got the mini burgers. I'm usually not a red meat kinda person but they were very filling and soooo good, especially the creamy cheese on top! The men got the aged steaks which they both HIGHLY approved of. Not an everyday choice (b/c of the price) but a really nice place to go on special occasions!

No prime beef? Come on! The steaks were good but not on point with top steakhouses in the Midwest. Service was slow for a Monday night but respectful. Shrimp cocktail was probably the best item of the night. That's a sad statement. I will go again but first impression was just ok.

I have actually only taken advantage of the cheap burger happy hour special here. I'm all for ambiance, but they need to turn the lights up a little bit. The burger was okay. Wtf was up with those fries? If I actually get a chance to eat a real dinner here, I will revise this I'm sure, as I've heard great things about their steaks. It's a little iffy that they can't even get fries (not sure I would even consider then fries, but will call them that for the sake of this review) right.

My review is based solely on the Red Room which is located downstairs from Flame. The specials are just amazing. Mon-Sat 4pm-6pm they offer 2 for 1 well drinks and domestics, and $3.50 burgers. Thursday nights after 9pm, I believe, they have the same deal (if not better) for the burgers, and martinis are buy one, get one. The burgers are AMAZING. I think they're the best burgers I've ever had. Ever. If these burgers are any indication of how awesome their actual steak is up in Flame, then I'd give Flame 4 stars as well! Be warned, however, because the burger special on Thursday nights comes with fries seasoned with heaven, and the special that goes on earlier in the day comes with something different. I can't pinpoint it, but they were steak fries in a seasoning that tasted a little like curry. It was off-putting. If you pay an extra $1.50, you can get the fries to die for. I actually asked while I was there what the seasoning was, but it was just vinegar and salt. I've had vinegar and salt on fries before, but these were perfection!! I would take 1 star off for the big steak fries that I wasn't expecting, but we ordered the other fries after realizing our mistake and it totally made up for it. The ambiance is dark and sultry and it's just a really awesome atmosphere. Instead of all tables/chairs, they have tons of couches and love seats to lounge in. This is a perfect place to relax after a long day at work or a tough week of school. Excellent Springfield location. My husband and I have yet to find a place like this in St. Louis that compares.

First off, this place is AMAZING!! It was voted best steaks by 417 magazine. i came here on a recent visit so see friends. They all pointed me in the right direction FO SHO!! They have an amazing Happy Hour, its as follows; Mon-Sat 4-6 Cheeseburgers and Calamari Specials ($3.50) Mon-Fri 4-6 2 for 1's on Select Drinks Wed, Thurs 9-11, 4.50 House Wine and 4.75 House Martinis Fri, Sat 10-12, 4.75 House Martini , we also came for dinner one night me and a friend ordered the 12 oz bone in filet... TO DIE FOR!! we all shared the brandy mushrooms, creamed spinach, potaoe lyonnaise, they were delish with the entree... my other friends also raved about the salmon oscar and the roast chicken.,.,,, i cant wait to come back to springfield to eat these amazing entrees!!!

This was one of the best meals we have had in a long time, and we often visit upscale restaurants. My wife's steak was very flavorful and perfectly done. The Lyonnaise potatoes were spectacular. My seared ahi tuna was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of bok choi, braised mushrooms, julienne carrots and a subtle ginger broth. Sauces served on the side were excellent. The only thing that wasn't perfect were doughy popovers, but the outsides were crusty and delicious. Great bar choices too. We were just passing thru Springfield, but would come back just to visiting this restaurant.

The food and service were amazing. But I had to knock off two entire stars due to: disgusting decor (purple, black and red? Seriously? With cow print bar chairs? Ew. It's like a blind person decorated this place.), almost non-existent lighting (I couldn't read my menu without the waitress giving me a flashlight...that she actually had handy. That should be a sign in itself. It was hard to distinguish gristle from meat while eating. Put in some more lights, damn it!), and the very uncomfortable booths on the second floor. Now that we got the negative stuff out of the way, the food and service was awesome. If you go between 5 and 6 they have discounts going on that ended up saving us around $30. The server let us try 6 different types of wine before choosing the bottle, which was very nice. I'd highly recommend the tomato salad and the creamed spinach (and the steaks of course!). My water and wine glasses were never empty and the server was very attentive, but not in an annoying way. I want to give this place 5 stars, but I just can't get past the decor, lighting, and uncomfortableness of the booth we were in. I'd gladly go back if they made some changes.

The steak was very good however I found everything to be overpriced. I ordered a Caesar salad with anchovies and it was two uncut pieces of lettuce, 2 anchovies and no salad dressing until I asked for some. The ambiance of the restaurant is dark and it was so difficult to read the menu that the waiters have to carry pocket flash lights.

I'm a businessman who travels a lot and I've eaten at some of this countries finest steakhouses. I would put Flame right up there with the nationally recognized steakhouses. The food is incredible as well as the atmosphere. The staff is very professional and attentive. If our looking for the best place in town to entertain clients or take hat special someone to a wonderful dinner, Flame is The Spot.

outstanding! I love this place i took my girlfriend here for dinner and was very impressed i always expect when i go to places like this that when you get your food its always in small baby portions you know oh no not here i was stuffed almost before the main entree by the time i left i ate so much i felt like puking but the food was so awesome i kept shoving it down i gave it four stars because of the seating arrangement i think the tables are too close but other than that i recommend this place a hndred fold

To best understand this review; it should be read aloud with both increasing anger and volume of voice. Yes...another red room review. And, at the risk of being reactionary, I am going to say now that this place pretty much sucks for a burger. I went back here to introduce some friends to the kitsch happy hour scene- see the restaurant Touch for another example-and yes, we will return for the "ambiance", which provides a good laugh for people who need a pick me up. This time, I was not impressed at the dry aging meat-cicle room in the corner. The shitty art and dumb pillows all around are oh so reminiscent of the same heavy house- wife-gone-crazy hand that decorated Touch. Overall, this place was a mess. We sat down to two tables that hadn't been cleared yet and helped our waitstaff clear the table. After that, we eventually got our waters-one at a time, and then got to place our order. I'm going to take a shot in the dark-pun not really intended-and say that the owner's and managers need to get off their asses and take care of business and get some scheduling done. The poor girl who was our waitress did her best, but she seemed to be running around everywhere. Short staffed places always break my heart...Our order was taken and eventually brought out by one of the chefs, who was also as nice as he could be. We all got burgers and those damn phallic-centered "potato fries". My burger was well done, not like "nicely done", but as in burnt-well done. A travesty! Who grills dry aged beef (that the burgers are supposedly made of) to well done?! Awful! You kill burgers when you do them well done. Man. Now I'm actually angry, and it isn't going away soon. Those potato fries have gotten worse somehow; they were COMPLETELY covered with some god-awful hell spice that seems to be "flavorful" only if you have a dead palate. Who seriously needs that much spice on anything? Old people. Old, old, old, people who have been living in a dessert, or young people doing meth...from what I've heard... For me, the Red-Room, with its many different connotations, has worn out its novelty. I am starting to care too much about having good meals, and becoming too poor, to pay any amount for over done burgers in a gimmicky hole, surrounded by sororstitutes and dudes in Nike hats talking about how AWESOME they are at partying. If this is your place; fine. You can keep it. I will go some place much more consistent for an equally good burger, that doesn't have the dry aged handicap-St. Mikes, Grad School, Patton Alley, etc...all of which don't require night vision goggles to get around. Maybe they had an off night. I definitely hope they did but I'm not venturing back underground to find out.
