Made another weekly trip to the good ole Sombrero, they had 15 million people working as opposed to two or three, went in around noon, new staff, corporate moved in. Downsized the menu, what I ordered and what my girlfriend ordered were both removed from the menu we had to explain what we're used to getting.

This place rocks! Just ordered some tacos and the bill was really cheap. The service was spectacular and the tacos were loaded with chicken, white cheese, and lettuce. Definitely going back soon.

I love going to El Sombrero. Seating is always quick, service is always right on, and the food is always great. The few times there has been a problem they have always been willing to fix it. Their cheese dip is a great blend of cheeses with a little spice, which I love, and their chori pollo is wonderful. I've had a few other items off the menu, but I always go back to the chori pollo. I'll be going back often.

I don't know how I found culinary satisfaction before I discovered the pork chimichanga at El Sombrero. By far my favorite Mexican food in springfield! I have dreams about the cheese dip and the guacamole is always chunky and fresh. A definite crowd pleaser with the family!

Standard Mexican themed food with the usual offerings. It was a nice place to grab a quick casual dinner. The dining area needs a bit of an update though.

Great service, attentive staff, and even better food! Guac, queso, chips all spot on. Fantastic fajitas, havent tried anything we did not like. Have to say this may be the best mexican spot in springfield!

This place is freaking amazing. Best chips in town. Amazing (and strong) margaritas. Swanky booths. Also, they have Dos Equis Amber on draft. In huge mugs. Huge. Frosty. Mugs. Even though I'm slightly biased because I live less than a mile away, I still think this is the best Mexican place in Springfield.

It was good mexican. The staff was friendly and the chips had a great texture that wasn't too crunchy but no soft at all. This place could rank among the better Mexican places in Springfield, MO.

El Sombrero is one the better Mexican restaurants in town. The depth of the menu is refreshing and they offer some dishes and quality ingredients that many other restaurants don't typically offer (flautas and chorizo for instance). My favorite dish is actually their nachos simply because the cheese sauce is some of the best I've had. The more traditional cuisine is very good and you can get tamales, tacos, burritos, rice, beans and so on a la carte. Chile relleno is also another simple highlight.

Great value for delicious food. The #2 kids menu fed my 4 year old daughter easily. My 12 year old son and I both got a steak burrito- meat was very tender and the sauce rich. Burritos could've been a bit bigger but we are all leaving satisfied. My wife chose the chicken chimichanga that she split with me- great guacamole and cheese sauce. Service was as good as possible. All told, damage was $33.36 but will be $40 after the well deserved tip. For a family of 4 with 3 waters and 1 coke we are very happy on all fronts. EDIT- decided to have a sopapilla without ice cream for only $1.75. Very good. Modest dessert for the whole family.

Good Tex-Mex. I would say among the best in Springfield. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. The food is consistent from visit to visit. We meet another couple or two here regularly. The beer is cold and the Margaritas are good. It is also a good quick lunch.

Best Mexican in Springfield, for my money. Queso, salsa, and chips are exactly what you want from an authentic Mexican restaurant, and their fajitas are easily the best in town. Wait staff are friendly and entertaining (though probably not on purpose). We've never had bad service there, and we go regularly. GREAT happy hour specials--$1 and $1.25 for draws--plus great daily lunch and dinner specials.

I've been to several Mexican restaurants in Springfield and El Sombrero probably has to be one of the best! They offer 3 different types of salsa, 2 hot and 1 mild. All 3 are good but 1 of the hot salsa's was the best salsa I've had ever! It was hot but not too hot and I could actually see and taste the different ingredients in it. My sister and I both ordered the Pollo Loco which was sliced grilled chicken, bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes in a cheese type sauce along side rice and beans and it came with tortillas. This type of dish I have ordered at other Mexican restaurants and it's always been good but the cheese type sauce that El Sombrero used was amazing, it wasn't like a thick melted cheese, it was just right. The staff was very friendly, the restaurant was clean, and their menu had a wide variety of food to choose from. This is definitely a restaurant I'll be going back to and one that I will recommend to friends and family.

My daughters and I Love this restaurant! Close to home, fast and yummy! If you shop at Dillon's next door on the back of the rspt is a coupon, buy one get one 1/2 off or fajitas for 2 for $15. I've never had a problem with the chef removing bell peppers (very allergic) from my meals. Their salsa is so good and not too hot, very fresh tomatoes. The heat is different every time we go there so it seems that it doesn't come out of a bottle/can. This is a great place to eat!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
