One of the best Mexican joints in Springfield for sure! Fast and friendly service and reasonably priced.

The atmosphere was welcoming as myself and friend were greeted upon entering. But that's where it stopped, not that our server was rude, he just didn't have any people skills. We ordered the enchiladas, super nacho fajitas(mixed meat), and guacamole. The enchiladas were very small lightly sauced and smothered with lettuce, sour cream and tomatoes. Most of the dinner consisted of beans and rice(both very bland). The nachos were tasty but could have used more cheese sauce and beans. However the meat was tender and moist making up for what the reason of the dish lacked. The guacamole was the highlight of the meal for me. Very creamy and flavorful which made me very happy. All in all it was a decent priced lunch as we only spent twenty dollars for one appetizer, two meals and one soda. Would I go back upon my next trip to Springfield? No, thank you once was enough for these taste buds.

This place is my favorite restaurant in Springfield! They have EXCELLENT margaritas!!! They're way better than the places that seem to just use mixers. The chips, salsa, and queso are all great, also. We usually order the fajitas tiajuana, which is a huge portion of fajita (steak, chicken, and shrimp mixed). With an extra order of tortillas, two adults can definitely split this with no complaints - and at a really reasonable price (if we don't drink liquor, we can get out with a bill under $20 for the both of us). If I order something of my own, it's always the tacos jaliscos (steak tacos) - Those tacos would be my last meal request if I'm ever asked. The staff is always friendly, and usually prompt. Sometimes when they're busy, you have a wait a few to get seated, but it is worth it. They have neat tables that are glass topped with designs underneath, and on some nights there is a man that plays live music - he's hilarious and very entertaining. If you're looking for Springfield-style mexican food like the dreaded mexican villa, this is NOT the place that you want.. this is GOOD mexican food - not tv dinner style burritos.

I have been here quite a few times for weekend lunches, and the best way to summarize is inconsistent. I usually always detect this faint amount of arrogance from the staff here; You know, that "take it or leave it" vibe. One particularly memorable time there was some kind of disagreement among the wait staff about who was going to take our table, so they just ignored us and let us sit there while they waited on everyone around us. Very uncomfortable. That said, we have had some good food on occasion- there seem to be certain items they are better at, so you have to experiment if you get something you don't like. I like the enchiladas rancheras, and I have had some good tamales on occasion. Might be a bit pricier than some of the other Mexican places I go, but not bad.

Good prices, excellent and prompt service, good environment. Guacamole is great and the cheese enchiladas were creamy unlike some other Mexican restaurants.

Will I go back? Probably not. I found the atmosphere to be dull (no energy), the service to be average (hello and thank you only, no interaction), and the food to be mediocre Mexican. I ordered the chimichanga. It came out barely fried with only ground beef on the inside and was the size of a fajita sized tortilla. The rice and beans took up 3/4 of the plate and were okay at best. This was standard run of the mill rice and bean filler. There was a glob of guacamole and sour cream. The guacamole had sour cream added to it to make it creamier and keep it from turning brown. I don't care for sour cream in my guacamole as it changes the flavor and also makes the freshness questionable. My wife had a side order of three tacos which were nothing to write home about. Standard ground beef, lettuce, and cheese in a hard shell. All in all, there are better Mexican restaurants in Springfield, MO.

From the time I walked into the restaurant I was not happy with my service. The restaurant was relatively slow, but myself and at least one other group waited to be seated. There wasn't even anybody at the front to speak with and multiple employees saw us, but continued on their own. Once seated, I waited several minutes for anyone to even introduce themselves. I witnessed another group walk in after me and be offered drinks before me. Once I was served, the food was mediocre. The cheese dip was plain and the shrimp was over cooked. Once I finished eating I waited for my check. I walked to the register to pay and waited, again, to be able to pay. Nobody was around the register for a couple of minutes. I wasn't the only person who noticed since there was another guest waiting to pay for the same amount of time. Overall, I was *not* happy with this visit. This was the second time I had eaten at the restaurant. The first time, over two years ago, I wasn't thrilled with my experience, but I gave it another chance. I do not expect to return.

Republic Rd Location: Awesome. First of all, the salsa is delicious. Our food was delicious, no complaints. The childrens plates are $3 and they get a lot of food. Service was quick and attentive. We've tried several Mexican restaurants around and this is our favorite so far. It's also very clean and pretty inside. We've eaten here several times.

Best mexican restuarant in the city. I've had 4 different dishes and all have been very good. The only reason I don't give El Puente a 5 star is because they add refried beans to their taco salad fajita. Service is great and the $2 margaritas at happy hour are great.

I could not be more shocked at the rave reviews on this restaurant. We arrived at 4:37 and after practically begging to give our order it took 30 minutes to receive 1 chimichanga and 1 taco. And, I had to get up, walk to the bar area, and ask "any chance we'll get food tonight??" then it came to the table cold. Nothing to write home about. Greasy, cold, squishy, lame "mexican" food. Not going to do THAT again. The first time in my entire life I didn't leave a tip. it was THAT bad.

I recently moved from the Kansas City area and have been searching for a decent Mexican restaurant. This is the best I have found so far. When I try a new Mexican restaurant I order a tamale, a chili relleno and a chicken enchilada. This gives me an idea how good the restaurant is. All 3 of these items were very good. The chicken had been brined and had really good flavor. The tamale was homemade with shredded beef. The chili relleno was fresh (not frozen) but was good. The salsa was just OK also. I like the decor and the service was good.

A good place to go if your craving Mexican food. Their lunch specials during the week are very affordable. I always order the taquitos. They are usually good at getting us seated and our beverages right away. They serve free chips and salsa right off the bat. Usually my top choice for Springfield Mexican.

Good food. Large portions. Popular place, very crowded, service slow but understandable. Wait staff pleasant. We asked for more chips & sauce and received them promptly.

This place is close to my work and they have great queso and salsa.

Service was awful. And the food was half a step up from Taco Bell... I ordered the burrito; chicken was dry. Toppings seemed straight out of a can, and was way to expensive. Why are so many restaurants doing bare minimum, and how are they still in business? Maybe some folks aren't use to fresh, authentic Mexican food...

Great Mexican restaurant in strip mall on the south side. A good friend asked me to give it a shot. The decor is nice, but not over the top elaborate as you find in many Mexican restaurants. A couple sombreros hanging on a hat stand and a wood carving pay counter with nice inlaid table tops which are pretty cool. I guess the cool factor depends on your table our table had a Corona inlay. The salsa was great and I really like the chile relleno. The taco was pretty bland and I'd put it on par with hamburger helper.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Had an inexpensive combo which included a delicious homemade Tamale. My wife's Taco Sebastian, had chorizo and chicken and was light and tasty. Good lunch spot, close to hotels.

I really enjoy El Puente's chips and salsa. My favorite dish is the chimichanga. The establishment is always clean and well maintained. The service is usually good, we've had a couple of times that it wasn't so great, but that is rare. The prices are good!

We like this place for a number of reasons: kid-friendly, yet also serves a masterful margarita; warm chips and fresh salsa; particularly tasty beans&rice; respectful/efficient service; and all at a reasonable price. I've tried tacos, fajitas, taquitos and quesadillas, among other dishes, and cleaned the plate(s) every time!

Chips are amazing. Salsa is eh. Rice is oily. Spinach enchiladas were AWFUL! They use canned spinach, blech. I liked the guac, lettuce and tomato toppings. My daughter liked her taco rice and beans. I guess its ok if you stick to the basics. I'd avoid anything like seafood or fish and obviously spinach. I'm giving it two stars because my daughter liked her meal.

El Puente is a casual Mexican-American restaurant with the normal variety of burrito dishes. Their take-out took about 10-15 min, but it was really enjoyable.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
