Best lunch in town! Fresh ingredients, many choices. You walk up to counter and they put the ingredients of your choice in burrito, salad, tostada, and soup. Beware of getting addicted to the quick and easy lunch! Staff is the same staff they have always had. I crave this place way too much!

This place is a Springfield classic. The chicken burrito is fantastic. All soups are homemade, ingredients are fresh, you can't beat this place.

It's not Chipotle. Dry tortillas, loosely wrapped. Not much inside. I prefer thin, stretchy tortillas with a lot of stuff inside.

Fresh, healthy, zesty. So much better than the usual mush that passes for Mexican food in Springfield.

You can get in and out quick which is nice. The burrito had a lot of good flavor. Think more authentic style and less Chipolte style. Staff was friendly and establishment was clean.

I have eaten here for lunch for many years. I don't think I have ever been disappointed! I love how fresh their food is and they always have wonderful customer service!

One of our favorites for over 10 years! Always fresh, never crowded. Low prices for a big burrito or salad. I always get their fresh pico and a tiny bit of their habanero salsa. Delicious.

Love this place. It is nice and quick on nights that I need to teach, and the habanero salsa is great for clearing sinuses. Docked a star for closing at 7 pm.

I eat lunch here regularly-as it's a convenient spot to grab a bite while I'm at work. Overall, the food is extremely fresh and the folks that work here are genuine and friendly. I typically get the Big Fat Salad and it's a nice sized fresh salad-with lettuce, tomatoes, rice, salsa, cheese, hiccuma, and I really recommend the vinagerette dressing (and I typically get a side of jalepeno kicker to go on top). It's served with 2 tortilla chips and a lime. For $5.75, it's not a horrible value-keeping in mind that it's truly a fresh salad. You can typically get in and out with a "to go" order within a few minutes. I also find it impressive that they know what we are going to order almost before we do. I find it better than Chipolthe, lighter than Qdobe and much fresher than both of those options. I love the Vanilla Ice tip jar-as well......a nice touch to a welcoming place.

I've been coming to this place for 12 years since I was a young tyke at my first job in high school. This was before Springfield grew from a town to a city where restaurant chains wanted to move in and places like Big Fat Burritos (aka BFB, Big Fat Burrs) were few and far between. One of the owners is usually the ones making your food, which drives the feeling a place reminding you of home can only do. Their prices are rounded out so it's always even on the quarter and started taking credit cards in the last several years. This added convenience but took away one of their traits of giving back $2 bills and dollar coins. This place was inspired by a burrito place in Colorado which supports their desire to be fresh. BFB was fresh before it was cool and I hope they are still around when I visit home in another 10 years.

I've experienced WAY better. First of all, it's not really "made" right in front of you. Everything is already made and is put in the tortilla in front of you. Which is similar to the assembly line technique Taco Bell uses. Secondly...the tortilla. How can you call it a burrito if #1 it's not even closed on either end and #2 it falls apart when you try to pick it up? I couldn't even get my hands under it to attempt picking it up. For a $7 burrito (because it costs 75 cents to add on guacamole) I expected much more. The people working there were very friendly and tended to me right away. I appreciated that very much. The chipotle beef had a really good flavor and I liked the use of green onions. But I doubt I'll be back. I prefer going to Tortilleria Perches for my burritos.

I eat here 4-5 times a month. The food is all made 100% fresh including the guacamole and salsa's. The flavor is excellent. Compare this to Qdoba where the chicken chicken is all chopped up with pieces and parts, the chicken, beef and pork is all fat free and melt in your mouth tender. The staff always has a huge smile on their faces and the service is fast. I recommend Big Fat to everyone I know!

Big Fat Burritos is decent, and while I wouldn't make it my regular "go to" burrito joint as I have a couple of other places I like better in Springfield, I will still go here for the occasional break as they do have a different flavor than anyone else as well. Walking in the door they offer a hearty welcome and the customer service is really good. They walk you through what they have and what your options are and seem to genuinely enjoy being there and serving their customers. The food was pretty good... what went inside the burrito was actually quite good. What keeps me from 4-stars for Big Fat Burrito is the tortilla it comes in. As much as I love what comes inside of a burrito to taste great, I'm a huge fan of tortillas themselves and there's no substitute for a good one. This tortilla is flavorless, dry, and comes apart where you have to eat your burrito with a fork rather than pick it up. It's like taking a flour tortilla at home and doing nothing to warm it up... it's like dry bread that just cracks and falls apart when you try to fold it. I'll hold out hopes that one day they start serving a tortilla as good as what they put inside of it and then I can bump my score up a bit. Until then, I'll make do as I visit occasionally and hope the service remains as good as it was on this day.

Food was fresh, eating a burrito with a fork is weird. A bit pricey.

Awesome. The guy who runs the place is an actual chef, and makes everything from fresh ingredients each day. The food is healthy and tastes fantastic. Even the cookies he bakes are awesome! Easily the greatest burrito place in Springfield. No contest.

I travel all over the state of Missouri each week for work, eating at all kinds of restaurants and this is one of my favorites. You can tell the instant you look at your food that they live up to their slogan that nothing comes out of a freezer or a can. The ingredients and flavors are so fresh. Small menu, but what they do they do well! In my opinion the price is very reasonable for the portion size you get. An amazing meal everytime.

It is great. It is healthy. It is made right in front of you, all made to order. Guacamole made fresh daily. And it is fast!

Went here a couple days ago after it was recommended by a co-worker. I will go back if the group of people I am with want to go, the food was ok but I wouldn't go back on my own. Place is clean and good amount of seating just thought the food was bland with little taste. They however have an excellent variety of salsa choices.

Eating at this Springfield find was a ritual for many years at my job. A very simple menu with all fresh ingredients makes this place a great quick lunch destination. They make everything in front of you which insures you get what you want. If you haven't tried it yet, this is a place to check out. And if you like it hot you have to try the habanera salsa, GREAT flavor but it will light you up.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
