Favazza's had great customer service. Our waiter was attentive and always had a smile. The food was nothing to brag about. I ordered the homemade lasagna, which was quite large but the quality was not anything i would re order. It lacked the rustic flavor you would expect from a mom/pop Italian restaurant. It had layers of pasta, but no basil, little meat and little cheese. It failed as a "Homemade title" and seems more mass produced than authentic.

Absolutely fantastic! Best Italian food I've had in a very long time. The fried ravioli was a delicious treat to start off with, and the pasta dishes were all top notch. What really stood out was the service. Our waiter was amazing at his job -- friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The prices are a little high but that is to be expected with the quality of food and service they have. I would recommend Favazza's to anyone looking for a tasty Italian meal and great service.

Experience: 4 stars,Service 5 stars, Food: 4 stars A friend had a 7pm reservation on a Saturday for a table of 20. It was 7:45 before we were seated, it was packed there. Food came out pretty fast, considering how big of a party it was. I had the Baked Cavatelli Melanzane, which was rich and really filling.

Take your business elsewhere on the hill if you want really good Italian food. However, this place does have a nice atmosphere , great outdoor patio, friendly service, and can accommodate large groups. My two stars is for the food. It is a notch above fazolis (except for the cavetelli con broccoli which was delicious ). I am especially harsh because they charge a good amount for their food, but don't seem to make anything fresh in house. Their portions are large enough to share for the budget conscious.

I've been here numerous times and have always left happy. I even had my wedding rehearsal dinner here for 30+ people in the back room. The outdoor patio has such a nice atmosphere and is open all seasons, so you can sit next to the roaring fire in the winter or under the ceiling fans in the summer. My ultimate favorite dish is the Sole Picatta - seriously delicious! The flaky fish, Italian breading, lemon sauce...everything is wonderful. To me, this restaurant is 'The Hill' and others just can't compare!

I've been here once for a normal dinner and once for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I was pretty underwhelmed the first time I went here. I'm not a fan of Italian food in the first place but I thought it was particularly underwhelming. I can't even remember what I got but I was disappointed. I recently came back for my sister's rehearsal dinner and thought it was better than I remembered, but still not great. I got a seafood pasta dish that was good but, when it comes down to it, a bunch of noodles and not enough seafood. The best part of the meal was probably the bread. Only because they dipped it in garlic butter...at the end they brought out ice cream that was pretty bad. Just tasted like something cheap from the store. The service was fine. Favazza's just isn't for me.

I've eaten at Favazza's many times over the years, but this past weekend was my best experience yet. We were seated on the beautiful covered patio next to the fireplace. We had my restless 2 year old nephew in tow. The waitress graciously offered to bring his plate out first (OMG sidenote: the 'kid's pizza' is an adult portion!) I opted for the fettuccine with shrimp, scallops, and mushrooms. The menu is a bit pricy, but the bang for your buck is incredible. I took two full meals home with me! Next time I may split an entree with someone. There is something for everyone here. Flavorful, FILLING Italian with attentive staff and a nice atmosphere.

While growing up with Chef Boyardee has taught me that meat-stuffed ravioli exists, I have never been to an Italian restaurant that actually serves them. Enter St. Louis because apparently, toasted ravioli is a thing here? Anywho, came here for lunch with some friends and they ordered some toasted ravioli for the table. I'm not typically a fan of breaded foods in general, but the toasted ravioli was tasty. I wouldn't say I'm converted but I enjoyed them. For my main, I opted to not go for the more traditional pastas with tomato-based sauces but instead, ordered the Linguine Tuttomare. It's a very heavy dish with a buttery garlic sauce and shrimp, crab, and clams. Heavy but delicious and filling. If seafood's what you want, I'd recommend this pasta dish. The smell alone told me I would enjoy it. Service was also great. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us a ton of garlic bread so the "small" basket would be enough for our party of 4 while our glasses kept refilling with water without us even seeing it happen. Magic.

Favazza's Restaurant does quite a bit of our company's internal meeting catering and they're one of the best. (My personal favorite is the chicken artichoke pasta!!) Always on time, prepared and super presentable. I try to have them cater as many of my meetings as possible. Lindsey can do just about anything we request and is always on top of it. Their portions are generous and never disappoint. We love having this Taste of St. Louis for when our out-of-town associates come in for meetings. Five-star quality for sure!

Psst. You want to know a little secret? I freakin' LOVE Italian food... and it's because of places like this. My husband's family has been coming to Favazza's for years, and they introduced me to it many years ago. It's got that old-school Italian charm that I just love... the dark woods, rich tones, white tablecloths, etc. Nice, but not too fancy. I walk in the doors and immediately feel at home. "Hey, Ma! Fix me some lasagna!" Don't worry, I'm just joking. I wouldn't do that. I'll take manicotti instead. ;) I came to Favazza's this past weekend with my husband and in-laws. One thing to note is that Favazza's does not take reservations on Fridays or Saturdays. "So what?" you say. "They have a humongous outdoor patio and a ginormous restaurant that's big enough for large parties, so surely they'll have room for teeny little me." you say. Not so fast, smarty pants. Knowing this key info, we got there when they opened at 5:00 on Saturday. There were already several tables seated at that time, and there was quite a wait by the time we left. Point proven. The food here is pretty amazing. Even the bread they serve is to die for. It's garlicky toasted goodness that made me want to run off into the sunset with the basket and scarf it all down myself. Thankfully, my momma taught me to share. Entrees are served with a dinner salad (topped with plenty of shredded provel and a light Italian dressing) and choice of pasta or vegetable. My father-in-law is currently on a strict diet, so he just had a bowl of traditional Italian wedding soup and a house salad with added grilled chicken. My mother-in-law ordered the mostacchioli, which was such a large portion that she probably ate her leftovers for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, and a midnight snack the following day. My husband and I were both feeling in a parmesan mood, so he got the chicken parm while I opted for the eggplant parm, and we each had a side of cavatelli with marinara sauce. We both took home about half of our entrees, as they certainly don't short you on the portions here. The service was outstanding throughout our meal. Our server was very friendly and had plenty of good recommendations, our food came out to the table in a timely manner, and drinks were kept full. I will most certainly be returning to Favazza's. I'm happy the warmer weather is now upon us because their wonderful patio is the perfect place to eat more of that bread.

I went to Favazza's last night for a group dinner. We had pretty close to 60 people there and we were seated in the nicely decorated banquet hall. The place was classy without being pretentious. They accommodated some last minute seating changes, graciously. They had a projector screen and also a podium available. The food was magnificent! We had their house salad. It was perfectly dressed. Not soupy like a few places on the hill. It was followed by their chicken parmagianno. It was tender and moist. Favazza's is the restaurant that all others are compared to for either veal or parmagianno entrees. It is always flavorful and they place a wonderful fresh sauce over the baked presentation that makes for a taste sensation when you bite into it. The cavatelli that was passed as the pasta was absolutely perfect. It was cooked al dente. The sauce was sublime. Smooth creamy with just a hint of garlic. Absolutely perfect. The final perfect component was the hospitality! The team that took care of us were outstanding. They were collegial and worked well together as a team. They looked you in the eye and spoke In complete sentences. Nothing was missed and nothing was asked twice for. With that large a group of health professionals we were bound to have several people show up late. (Damn patients) they were graciously accommodated. We had a private bar and tender. I guess I am saying they have done this a long time and provide flawless execution for large demanding parties. John Favazza has always been a pleasure to work with. I have done a few dozen parties here over the last 20 years or so. I have never heard anyone have a bad thing to say about the staff or his leadership. They are always courteous and thankful for the business. As a final note I know that we put this party together in a very short time line. John and his staff was very accommodating to our outrageous requests!!!

I first tried Favazza's at a catered event and was impressed by the quality. For the final stop of Thursday's reverse progressive dinner, we went to Favazza's. We had to wait 20 minutes before being seated on the patio even though when we walked by and later when we were seated we saw a couple of empty tables. That was a little irritating, but it wasn't disastrous as we had already eaten a little. After having a huge late lunch, a snack, and then eating at Gelato di Riso and Milo's, I had so little of an appetite that I just ordered a cocktail and munched on bread. Eventually I got bored and ordered an Italian lemon ice. It was beautiful and tasty too. My friend had the cavatelli con broccoli and loved it. I tasted and may order it when I return, which I hope will be soon. No complaints about the service other than the seating, and I only have great things to say about the atmosphere: It was beautiful outside. My friend and I stayed a good hour and a half at least, catching up and discussing not-so-fine literature in an environment that wasn't so quiet we felt loud and wasn't so loud we had to shout (though we occasionally did during the heated book discussion). I'm a fan.

The Hill is our tradition before going to a show at the Fox and we decided to try Favazza's on recommendation. On Fridays and Saturdays they do not take reservations, which is a bummer, and they warn you that you'll have a wait time. We got there early and noticed it was Prom Night after we were seated after our 30 min wait. We were next to 3 huge tables of Prom go-ers so we didn't get as much attention from our waiter as we would have liked. He offered us the specials, brought us bread (which was to die for) and we saw him on occasion the rest of the night. Drinks weren't filled as much as other places. I tried their house salad and pizza and wasn't disappointed. My husband tried their regular spaghetti and loved that it was fresh tomatoes on top. We were too full for dessert and the waiter again didn't seem too thrilled that we didn't order that or the specials. He simply dropped off the check, stood to the side and the moment my husband put down the credit card, he swooped in, grabbed it and was back in no time. I guess the prom go-ers were getting first priority. I enjoyed my meal, hence the 4 stars. The service could have been a lot better. I'll probably go back another time in the future to try more of their menu.

Too salty. Only OK. I personally know The Favazz" yet, sorry, not a fan of the family restarante'. The atmosphere and look is authentic and great, simply not the best on The Hill. I love Manicotti and theirs is only OK. Their salads are nothing special and their bread is forgetable. It would be great for large groups as it is one of the largest restaurants on The Hill. Great for generic office events, groups of people not too familiar with Italian food and a good place to take children. Other than that, this place is merely OK and in 10 years of trying it once in awhile, NEVER had a GREAT meal here.

I've been here twice; once in 2008 for my sisters wedding rehearsal dinner & once this year for Valentine's Day. I've never been a big fan of pasta or Italian food but I'm never disappointed. It's a bit pricey but that's to expect when dinning on The Hill. Service here was impeccable & the set up was lovely both times.

I came for my birthday with my family and friends. Everything was fine until I received my entree (the pasta special) and there was a hair in my food. The waitress was understanding but after I received my new entree she never came back over to the table and checked on us. Despite there being hair in my food, our whole table wanted to order dessert, so my mom asked the waitress for a dessert menu. Unfortunately she never brought us a dessert menu so we didn't get dessert. I used to be a server so I know I'm picky but from such a nice restaurant with high ratings I expected a lot more. The setting on the patio was great so I would probably give it another chance but it definitely put a damper on my birthday celebration.

I have had some amazing meals on the hill, but my meals at Favazza's have been underwhelming to put it generously. The service is stuffy and rude every time, first of all. Then I always seem to get my red wine in a glass that is much to hot to contain a $13 drink. The only reason I give this place two stars is because of the bread served when seated. It's toasted and buttery and garlicky. It's a nice change from standard slices of cold bread. I've tried a few different past dishes in the past, but find the noodles (especially the conchiglie) overcooked. I went last weekend and tried the breaded tilapia with a tomato and caper sauce to avoid the pasta, but the fish came out soggy and the flavor combination was just bad. The entree came out much too quickly after the salad was served, making us feel rushed as well. The side portion of pasta, which I tried with a tomato and cream sauce combined, was disappointing yet again. This was my last attempt to like Favazza's. My suggestion: skip this terrible restaurant and visit Gian Tony's for amazing pasta and a great experience, or Anthonio's Taverna for a casually delicious meal.

I feel guilty writing this for some odd reason but....no, just no. Our waiter was great, staff is great, atmosphere is fine but the food, no. Call me a crazy food snob but I cannot understand the attraction to a lot of restaurants on "the Hill". Favazza's white sauce was NOT enjoyed by anyone, it was worse than "just okaaay". Our apps were not great and no one loved their entree. Again, the people were fantastic, the food is not.

I ate a late lunch at Favazzza's this afternoon and was very disappointed in my experience. I have eaten at this restaurant before so was looking forward to lunch today. I first ordered the gluten-free margherita pizza, as I had ordered it once before and raved about it. It came out on and looked different than the last time I ate it (last time it was rectangular, this time it was round). I took a few bites and wasn't thrilled with the crust, so when I expressed disappointment in my dish, the waiter was quick to offer me something else from the menu. He gave me a menu, came back about five minutes later and I ordered what my friend had been served (which was the cannelloni, when she actually ordered the manicotti). So, expecting to get the cannelloni, I was served the manicotti. I felt terrible sending it back, but I cannot eat cheese in that amount (which is why the small amount on top of the pizza or cannelloni was okay). The waiter boxed it up and then charged me for it. As someone who works in a restaurant, if there were so many mistakes made, we wouldn't think of charging the customer for a meal they didn't even get to eat. I was offered free dessert, but I didn't want dessert, I wanted lunch. I'm not saying the waiter or restaurant was completely at fault, it was just a big mix-up. I realized later that the last time I ordered the GF pizza, I must have been served the original, because the manager on duty insisted that this was and had been the same GF pizza they had always served (yet I had never, ever had it before). However, when you're expecting a delicious pizza and leave without anything but a $16 charge on your debit card, you become a little aggravated.

Came here for Valentine's Day dinner. Had reservations for 8, didn't get seated until 8:45!! Waitress was short and not friendly. Crispy artichokes were doused in lemon juice. Red sauce pasta was less than desired on my baked eggplant. My boyfriend ordered the chicken prosciutto and said it was alright. Our waitresses' lackluster performance (taking our order and asking if we wanted dessert) seemed to fit the rest of the experience. The saving grace of our night, besides our own company, was the bus girl who brought us our garlic bread, water, brought us our appetizer and cleared our appetizer plates and wrapped our leftovers. I am sure she gets some part of the waiting staff's cut on tips, but I tipped her separately and thanked her for taking care of us throughout the night and wished her a Happy Valentine's Day. We won't be making the 45 minute commute to go eat here again.

We recently had Favazza's cater a luncheon. I called and placed the order on Wednesday prior to the Friday luncheon. The individual that took our order was very personable and asked quite a few questions to help determine what are needs were. He had some great recommendations for us. We solidified the menu and then recommended a time for delivery. Our order arrived about 10 minutes prior to the due time. It was all set up and explained to us. Boxes were left in case we had leftovers, and we did. We planned on 30 people and had 31. We had leftovers of pasta, salad, chicken and bread. The highlight of the menu items we received was the Sicilian Chicken. It had a great flavor. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to cater a meeting.

Had a nice visit here early on a Saturday evening. Everything was well prepared and it's such a nice feeling to have professional waitstaff vs. what you see so often elsewhere. The main waiter and his team were on top of everything and it was very transparent. The food was well prepared to order and delivered promptly. While the decor is a little dated and in need of a refresh, the place appeared to be well maintained and clean. Very good experience. Good Italian food and good value.

Very tasty Chicken Parmesan and reasonably priced. House bottle wines a bit pricey considering home brand. One of our 6 guests had 2 of 3 ingredients of her entree uncooked and had to send back (no we did not demand free meal). Manager provided 2 large portion deserts for table as apology- not expected but appreciated. If nice outside, do the patio if able! Would be 4 to 5 stars if entree was cooked right the 1st time and wine prices a bit more in line.

I love this place. We ate there this evening for New Years eve. The food and the service were very good. The only problem I had was that there was way too much sauce on my pasta. I will remember to ask for them to go light on the sauce next time. The food was still very good.

Overall I would have to say Favazzas is thoroughly average Italian food. There was nothing remarkable about the food and nothing to justify going back especially when there are so many other Italian options around. Each entree comes with a dinner salad and side dish which makes it especially odd that they don't list the side dishes anywhere on the menu. So you have to ask. The dinner salad had too much dressing so by the end of the salad I felt I was eating nothing but dressing. The side dish I chose was the white sauce pasta which was a good portion and complemented the meal nicely but lacked any great flavor. For my entree I had the veal piccata. The veal itself was great, very tender and well cooked. But the piccata sauce wasn't all that great. It was surprisingly thick and a bit too lemony. I'd say 2.5 stars overall, just thoroughly average

Here with family group on Saturday. We arrived at various times starting around 12:45. They set aside the back room for our group of 12. That was so nice, especially since there were very young children in our party. Everybody ordered off the lunch menu. I wasn't being too snoopy about what people ordered, but what I saw around me: Veal Parmigiano ($13.95) -- Seasoned with breadcrumbs and sauteed, baked with marinara sauce and provel cheese Tortellini Alla Panna ($10.95) -- Meat-filled doughnut shaped pasta in butter, cream, and parmigiano cheese sauce with prosciutto, peas and mushrooms Linguine Tuttomare ($10.95) -- Seafood in creamy butter and garlic sauce with fresh mushrooms A number of people got a dinner salad ($4.25), which was a nice fresh salad of greens and cheese with a light dressing. Not too huge. I got the Tuttomare, and it was delicious! Plentiful seafood in a rich sauce and lots of mushrooms. I was surprised that the lunch servings were as large as they were. I think most people had leftovers. Service was great, with plentiful water and soda/tea refills. I believe this is the best meal I've ever had at Favazza's. I had a nice little to-go vessel that served as lunch the next day.

It comes in at 3.5 stars and that is about right. Overpriced to say the least, but a lot on the Hill and in st Louis are also. The price for a small house salad is ridiculous. So was the price for the small piece of cheese on my salsiccia sandwich. The salsiccia was very tender and tasty. An above average red sauce. Lots of other places to go before I come back here.

Great ambience on the outdoor heated patio with wood-burning fireplace. Great food and music playing. Prices around $15-20 per entree. My special seafood pasta was $25 and very good. Drinks were strong and service was friendly! Bring some friends, family, the place is huge!!

This may be our favorite restaurant on the hill. As soon as you walk in the door you can tell the decor is authentic and original. The atmosphere is wonderful and the place itself is very spacious. There is a downstairs (I'm assuming for large parties) a large bar to your left and two rooms to the right. The back room to the right is also great for large parties and the space closer to the door on the immediate right has both intimate booths and open tables. The tables and chairs are small but someone over 250+ lbs next to us had no problem with them. They bring you a generous basket of the most delicious garlic bread assorted with plain bread. It is seriously addicting! Our last visit I ordered the cannelloni and my spouse had the fish sandwich with a large house salad. Go ahead and spend the 11.50 for the large house instead of paying 5.50 for the smaller salad because you get so much more for your money. Our waitress never let our cups get empty (the cups are tiny so that was impressive). The service was just impeccable. Everything was delicious and it's only a few streets away from our home. Very satisfied customers!!

I've never been impressed with The Hill. Sorry to all native St Louisians who just gasped in horror. I haven't been to every single establishment, nor am I saying that it's terrible, I'm just less than impressed. So what better chance to try more places than Restaurant Week on The Hill. My mother, husband and I ventured out last night and checked out Favazza's based on their available set menu. The patio was lovely! the garlic bread also lovely! The snail's pace service, not so lovely. Our service was a nice guy who was clearly slammed with 2 big parties and us at the same time. The flatbread with olive tapenade was ok. Far more bread and far too little tapenade. Salad was ok (I do appreciate them adding the salad to the 3 source set menu), but had clearly been frozen at some point since the lettuce was wilted and transparent. For my main dish I had the tilapia, which wasn't bad. I'm not normally a fish person, but it sounded good. It was a little over breaded, but the fish itself was moist and flaky. Cannoli for desert also wasn't bad. So again, "not bad" isn't the same as "good" in my book. And the slow service didn't help at all! 1/2 star for the patio though.

We held our rehearsal dinner at Favazza's in January 2015. They definitely delivered with the ambiance and food... I could eat their salad as a meal it is so delicious! We had a large group so we needed to find a place that would fit our party of probably just under 100, while still being able to offer quality food. The price was right and they offered us their screened in patio for our event. We ended up having an open bar, salad, bread, passed appetizers (toasted ravs, etc) and then four plates for our guests to choose from. The meal ended with a dessert offering of cannolis. EVERYTHING was awesome! On top of that, all the guests commented on how cute our set up on the screened-in patio was and my husband and I definitely agree. Even though it was winter, the screened in patio was heated with a large, stone fireplace at the front of the room and it gave off a cozy feel. My (now) husband and I could not have had a better time that evening before our wedding. Favazza's did a great job!

Well...not sure why they are averaging 3.5 stars...I live in California and when visiting the hill...This will be my new must have restaurant...I ordered the cannelloni and it was the best I've ever had, red sauce underneath the pasta with their bechemel smothering the top, it was superb and stayed hot in its dish for the whole meal which is such a great bonus in my opinion when eating pasta. Another member of the dinner party ordered the special which was beef tips in marsala sauce and it was so tender and delicious, this came with a side of pasta which I expected to be like an angel hair in a marinara, but instead was a homemade almost gnocchi like pasta in in a brown butter parmesean sauce and could have been a dish all its own! The garlic bread was also amazing and abundant. Half the table ordered cannolis and loved them, it's a must try on the hill! Can't wait for my next trip !

We came here for a wedding party, and had the entire patio area reserved. The outdoor space itself was great, nice place to have dinner on a warm night. The food at our event was served up family style, and I don't know how it compares to the food you get when ordering individual items off the menu, but I thought it was just OK. They served us a variety of breads, pizzas, fried raviolis, and pastas. The bread and raviolis were good (and heart attack inducing), but the pizzas and pasta seemed a little bland. I'd eat here again, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so. Oh, and regarding service: the hostess and bartender were extremely friendly, the waiters not so much.

It has a great ambiance, great decor, and great service! Also, its garlic bread is really good. However, both times I tried this restaurant, the pastas were too bland and the pasta sauce was really not tasty. I agree with other reviewers that other restaurants in the Hill have better pasta entrees.

I was in St. Louis on a work trip and ventured to Favazza's with a couple of clients. They received the recommendation from a co-worker and I was excited to try the "Hill" area of St. Louis. I had no idea they even had an italian area! Coming from MA/RI where we have our own "Hill" (as in Federal Hill) and North End, I was wondering if the food would stack up. It was a Monday night which admittedly, is not a prime restaurant night. The restaurant had a few other diners, but it was certainly not packed. Service was good, but a little slow, particularly considering the crowd level. I do give restaurants a break on Monday's however, as I know weekends can be hectic. Plus they have this garlic bread that will make you forget about your problems. For real, it was probably the best garlic bread I've ever had. Crisp, tender, buttery and flavorful. Yum! I could go for some right now. For our appetizer we opted for eggplant parmigiana. It was excellent! Big pieces of fried eggplant (sans skin thank you very much) that was not the least bit bitter. It was crispy yet still had plenty of sauce and cheese. It was oh so good and totally hit the spot! By the time we worked our way through this generous helping of eggplant, we had also finished our basket of garlic bread. Oops. We promptly requested more which came out right away. Our entrees came with a house chopped salad which was tasty. Nothing outrageous but a solid dressing on an ok salad. I could have personally done with a few more veggies and maybe a few black olives, but still enjoyed the salad. There was quite a delay between this course and our entrees, but our entrees all came out hot and fresh. I ordered the chicken proscuitto which was tasty and good, but I was so full after the bread, salad, and appetizer, that I only ate a few bites of my entree. My co-diners had the lasagna and a shimp cavatelli dish, which they both really enjoyed. Overall I was impressed with the food. It was very good and flavorful. The restaurant was not fancy, but it put out good food and that is how I judge my restaurants. If I am in the area again and have the opportunity to go back, I will. No way would I pass up having that garlic bread again!

OK but not fabulous. Not as good as I expected in a neighborhood described as being like Chicago's Taylor St. We were there on a rainy night with not too many occupied tables, and the service was spotty. We waited waaaay too. Long after we finished our appetizer to order our entrees. When the entrees came they came quickly enough, but the waitress forgot the two glasses of wine we ordered until she was reminded the next time we could get her attention-half way thru the meal. I guess toasted ravioli is a St. Louis thing. These were tasty but I don't have to have them again anytime soon. The veal parmagian was just OK-but not all that interesting. It was also overcooked around some of the edges. The cavatelli pasta that came as the side was in a nearly tasteless cream sauce. Frankly, the best things about the meal were the garlic bread and the salad dressing.

I definitely would not recommend Favazza's. I think we came in with some high expectations as this place came highly recommended by a couple of locals. I feel like we were in the middle of an Italian-rich neighborhood and I'm sure there must've been some better options around. The reason I give them an extra star was the ambiance was excellent. The outdoor seating area (called the patio) was really cool. Nice touch with the exposed string of lights and all. It was also a beautiful day outside, which made the whole experience better. The service was fine - nothing great, but also nothing wrong. The thing I have to just say is, if you can't make a decent tomato-based pasta sauce, then you probably shouldn't be in the Italian restaurant business. By the way, it wasn't just me that was disappointed. My friend had the lasagna and he was just as displeased. We were hungry so we ate it, but I just wouldn't go here again. The pasta itself was kind of tough, which is actually understandable because I ordered the whole wheat penne. The veggies on there were not even properly grilled - they literally undercooked and added absolutely no flavor. Even then it all comes down to the sauce. I asked for a spicy marinara and it was just so blah... absolutely flavorless. I like to end on a somewhat positive note; the garlic bread they bring out in the beginning was pretty good. Very buttery, but I guess that's what makes it taste good.

I was welcomed outside the restaurant because I was checking out the interesting patio & the owner came out & introduced himself. In fact, everyone seemed very nice & professional at this restaurant. Great old brick columns, (poured, textured & colored) stylized flooring & a two tiered fire place was added to create this beautiful mostly pavilion covered patio. The place looks great with the only ? distraction of the painted brick of one side building (makes it feel like a cheap pizza joint). I wanted to try the lunch special on this great looking patio. For $13 they offered pizza or a chicken parmesan. I was served a very small plate of salad, nice size plate of well cooked veggies & a over cooked breaded chicken with marinara sauce & cheese. The nice gentle man that said he was the owner told me he also owns Rose's on the Hill (a rentable banquet hall). I could only think "I knew I recognized the cooking style now" ~ Overcook it and make it bland so we do not upset anyone plus serve little salad that will not be wasted (banquet style). Service & patio will make me try again, but as a restaurant for $13 lunch...

I had Favazza's cater in a lunch meeting. They arrived exactly on time, were extremely professional and were sure to check with me before they left if there was anything else that I needed. Calling ahead a few days before my meeting to arrange the luncheon, they were extremely friendly and made it very easy for me. Food was great too!

Favazza's is always a favorite. You can always expect great service and fantastic food. For a taste of Italy on the Hill in St Lou, Favazza's is hard to beat.

We had a party of 10 for a graduation dinner. My sister's wheat pasta was dry. My food came out about 10 minutes after everyone else's even though someone else ordered the same exact thing as I. We got the Sicilian chicken. Her's was crisp and had a lemon slice on top. When mine came out it was soggy with olive oil and there was no lemon slice on top. I sent it back because it was too oil and the manager that came to the table acted like it was supposed to look like that even though the person with the same thing as me show how crunchy hers was. On top of that we were seated in a covered outdoor area that was loud and very muggy. To add insult to injury they charged me $4 for my son's fries even though the menu said $2.50. And it was not a big order of fries. I gave it 2 stars because my drink I ordered from the bar was very good and made exactly to order, the garlic bread was delicious, and the overall wait time for the food wasnt bad for how busy it was.

We had my son's wedding rehearsal dinner here. They are located in the Hill area and have been there a long time. Since it was a rehearsal dinner and early in the evening (5pm) we had a preselected limited menu to order from. We were in a private room downstairs that was quiet and away from the rest of the traffic. The appetizers were all excellent and everyone commented on how good the food was. The portions were very large so nearly everyone had a take home box. We'll try to get back and see what how the place is for a normal dining situation.

This place deserves 5 stars because when I went there, the first Thursday of July they did a great job. There was ample seating at 5pm, the servers were very attentive and the food was delicious. I went with the Spaghetti Pomodoro because I am trying to eat less of the creamy foods that I love so much and because I am not one who is big into red sauce unless it is full of yummy spices. And I am never one to turn down a simple spaghetti dish with basil. It was excellent and I loved the feel of the building, the stained glass and brick walls. The ambiance was very good. Our water glasses were always full which was great considering how hot it was outside. The prices were what I come to expect from a well known Italian Place in that neighborhood. Of course it all depends on what you get. What can I say, I really enjoyed it and look forward to when we go back again. Lest I forget, my boyfriend who has been there before had nothing to complain about and very much enjoyed his dinner as well.

I grew up on the Hill but moved away 15 years ago. I was back visiting family on the Hill on Friday and the other restaurants were packed so we decided to try Favazzas, We had 7 people, and we got a lovely table on the patio right away. The patio was built recently and is a hidden gem. Feels like being in Italy. The service was outstanding. The menu had great selections. We had the small appetizer platter to share...the toasted raves and fried artichokes and fried cheese were great. Entrees were equally well done and we all took home food. A little pricey but the quality and quantity of the food was worth it! Great food, great ambience, great value. One of our new Hill favorites!

Came here this past Wednesday for a friend's birthday dinner. I rolled in with 3 other friends around 8:30 and the place was pretty empty... Friend 1: We're with a party. Hostess: They're that way. (Pointing towards this door at the left hand side of the hostess booth) Kent: Man she didn't even ask what party. I guess we must be the only big party willing to come here. We walked into the next room and the space was huge and it opened up to the patio too! Nice touch. I also noticed a bar to my right which had 7 waiters/bartenders/busboys/random staff standing at. Obviously not a good sign... I asked for suggestions on which was the best Pinot Grigio to get and the waitress suggested the most expensive one. Though the price difference was 1 dollar, that was an obvious choice since I was not given any explanation on the taste/flavor of the wine. Waitress: Sorry we don't have anymore of that wine. There's only maybe 3/4 of a glass left. Kent: Okay. Which Pinot Gri would you suggest I get now then? Waitress: How about just the one above it? Kent: Okay sounds fine. (Actually sounds like I want an explanation and a real suggestion, not just going from the bottom of the list up!) Since I was at the gym right before this, I was pretty hungry, but decided to only order the Fettuccine With Shrimp and Scallops. It's going to be heavy anyways right? When the bread came out, it was nice and warm and well a HUGE basket. There was regular bread and semi toasted garlic bread. I ate like 7 pieces of garlic bread while waiting for my food cause 1) I love garlic bread, 2) I was drinking a huge glass of wine on pretty much an empty stomach. The pasta came out and it was very unappealing. It was the largest unappealing plate of pasta I have ever seen. Kent: (To friend on right) This looks like it has been sitting out for like 30 minutes... Friend: Yeah... Well looks can be deceiving right? I mix my pasta around so it's less gross looking and taste it... Bland, and not so cheesy or creamy... Kent adds 1 layer of parmesan. Mix.Taste again. Kent adds pepper. Friend(sitting diagonal right to me): Damn Kent that's a lot of pepper, why don't you just open up the top? Friend(sitting across from me): Oh it just comes out really slow. Kent: That's what she said. But thanks that's a good idea. Kent unscrews top of pepper shaker and continues to pour on pepper. Mix. Taste again. Kent adds another coating of parmesan. Mix. Taste again. Eat. Friend(sitting to left): Did you take all of the long noodles? All of mine and his noodles were all super short... Kent: Nah man this is the biggest plate of short unappealing pasta I have ever had. Everybody else who had a butter sauce, cream sauce dish did not particularly like theirs. The verdict on the red sauce dishes was a little more positive. This was the first time I thought I would be defeated by a pasta dish, but I managed to win out. Man vs. Food eat your heart out!

I know that the Hill does not offer the most traditional Italian food but that doesn't mean its okay to serve food that just is not good. Here is why Saint Louis Italian food upsets me. In my native New Jersey I can drive less than five miles in any direction to find an amazing and cheap Italian place. Therefore, I never want to drive out of the way to the Hill to pay over $10 for a sub par pasta dish. Favazza's is no exception. St. Louis family members have brought me/forced me to eat here multiple times. At first I made the mistake of ordering pasta with red sauce. I might have well made noodles myself and poured canned sauce over them. And where is the mozzarella? Baked pasta dishes like ravioli and manicotti typically come with a layer of bubbling hot mozzarella cheese on top. Now I know just to order the pasta with olive oil on it which again I could still make equivalent at home. Overall not good Italian food or food period.

"I hate the Hill. They put 20 of the same restaurants that all serve the same food in the same area" This is a comment from CLEARLY a non-St. Louisian. My fiance and I went to Favazza's a few days ago and yes, it is similar to Cunetto's and to Zias. But here is why I don't mind, nay, why I love the Hill: the food is amazing. The food of the Hill is like food no where else. Some may question how Italian it is, but no one would question how St. Louis it is. Living in Chicago for a short while really made me realize how much I have taken for granted the unique flavors that come from something dripping in a provel cream sauce. Healthy or not, it is amazing! Favazza's was delicious and the service was great. Our waitress was super cute and friendly. My fiance got the Veal Saltimbocca and I got the Chicken Prosciutto. Both served in a white wine sauce with provel. My chicken was crispy fried and juicy on the inside. The sauce was rich and delicious. Jake's veal was perfect, so perfect in fact, that with one bite of the others selections, we made a switch. Overall, great "Italian" place on the Hill and although St. Louis food is an acquired taste, I love it and Favazza's did not disappoint. Definitely get the veal and don't forget the amazing garlic bread they give you to snack on!

My first experience at Favazza's for lunch a few weeks ago with the family. It was a lovely warm day so we sat on the patio, which was very nice. However the food left a lot to be desired. The sauce looked like dog food with red sauce and while it tasted better there wasn't much flavor to it. Combined with the fact that the pasta was not drained made things a watery mess. Our waitress seemed mad when a comment was made about the pasta not being drained. He response was "I'll have the kitchen mix it up" Um, why would I want a dish of pasta with an inch of water at the bottom mixed up with sauce on top of it? No thanks. But I will say that their salad dressing is delicious. Salads were the only thing we liked.

The only time I've had Favazza's is when it has been catered in for work lunch meetings. I absolutely love the salad and the lightly-breaded chicken is just delicious. The bread is always warm and people are usually commenting on how good and fresh it is! I am not sure that I would make a special visit out to the restaurant for dinner, but it's great for catered work lunches!

I still haven't been able to find myself overly impressed with restaurants on The Hill... but Favazza's is at least moving in the right direction. Please remember that a 3-star review means it's A-OK, I'm just not willing to bump it up to being a huge fan as of yet. I could have made my meal out of that basket of garlic bread they bring you for an appetizer... that stuff was delicious! The dressing on the dinner salad was really good, but I am always amazed at what constitutes a salad in St. Louis... iceberg & red onions? Toss in some romaine or something crunchy with nutritional value at least. Jeez. Entree's were huge and piping hot, and the price point was definitely good for what you got, but I'm still left wondering "what's with all the hype!?". The waiter had the personality of a wet rag, but after seeing the amount of old ladies we were seated next to, I can't blame him. I wouldn't want to deal with that, either. I'm still on my quest to find what the big draw is to The Hill, but Favazza's is a place I would definitely try again.

It was good food and a great atmosphere. I understand that I must be in "little Italy" since the fire hydrants are painted like Italian flags so remind me why I have to ask for vinaigrette and oil for my bread? That being said, the bread was AMAZING and the food was good too. When I am back in town, I will come back to try it again.

This is like a broken record, but on the last day of a long trip and we were staying in the Hill at the Holiday Inn. We started to look for dinner and came across the good reviews on yelp and decided to call and see if there was a wait....No wait. Great - we have two hungry kids and two tired parents so let's do it. My daughter has a dairy allergy so it's always a concern for us. The manager and waitress took great care of her and made sure anything that was prepared for her steered clear of cheese. We also have a two year. They put us in a quiet corner so we wouldn't make a scene and did little things to keep them engaged - like bringing their food out a little early so they would be busy. Now on to our dinner. i would have went 5 stars but my wife's lasagna was average. Lasagna to me is a very personal thing and if it's different than what you like - it's not as satisfying. Being italian, I have my preferences and it was ok, but not mindblowing. Now, I ordered the sicilian chicken which has the right amount of grilled breadcrumbs and lemon on it. It was a bit oily and could have used some potatoes or something, but the chicken itself was delicious. The kids started to get antsy so we skipped dinner but many were very pleased with their tiramisu. I heard them mention they use coffee instead of espresso. Next time I'll give it a try. Overall a good experience at the price point I expect for an italian restaraunt. It was a bit nicer than casual but I didnt feel out of place in a polo and shorts.

I've been looking for a casual, family owned Italian restaurant since I moved to St. Louis about 5 years ago. First I thought Lou Boccardi's was it, but I didn't think the food was good enough. Then I thought it was Ragazzi's, but it was a little TOO casual, and my fiancee hated it. Then I thought it was Gino's, but they were a little too fancy, and have since gone out of business. Then I thought it was Cunetto's, but they don't take reservations and it's not worth waiting in line for over an hour on a Friday night. Finally tried Favazza's the other night, and this is the place. Great food, big portions, even great bread. What more could you ask for? Good meatballs? Check. P.S. Try the eggplant parmesean... fantastic.

I can't say I am enamored with Italian food in America. It is lame. Same selections on the menu pretty much everywhere and no nod to the regional cuisines of the motherland. If you don't have pork or boar or risotto or fennel or SOMETHING regional and interesting on the menu... come ON! Everyone thinks Italian food is was you see on Favazza's menu, and it simply is not. But Favazza's is in the crowd of restaurants offering a "standard menu," so the offense is not punishable. Let's call is American/Italian and leave it at that. And I would assign that title to almost all of the Hill restaurants. Maybe I should call them Almost Southern Italian. At least the pasta is generally al dente and flavors balanced here. The service is good and the atmosphere is relaxed. The prices are reasonable and the portions are, too. The wine list is reasonable in size and selection and price. So all that said this is fine place to enjoy a meal. It may have no relevance to most Italian food other than what one would find south of Rome, but at least it is tasty.

Favazza's is one of many red sauce restaurants on The Hill. What makes Favazza's stand out is that it attacts couples rather than families, making it quieter. They start every meal on the right foot with a basket of bread - you should pick out the pieces that look burnt and eat them immediately, they are surprisingly delicious. The salad comes with a tasty dressing. Then come the entrees. Not outstanding, not disappointing, just right for an evening in a red sauce restaurant. Nice sole, nice mostaccoli, nice spaghetti (with giant meatballs). Nice service. And, contrary to a previous post, they do take reservations.

This place is hit or miss. It's great for an evening out with the entire family. They have a very large patio. Portions are generally large enough to share. Nothing on the menu really blows me away. But it's reasonably priced, and will fill you up.

Did I like Favazza's? Yeah. Was I knocked out by it? Nah. We went for lunch on Saturday and the place was frankly a ghost town. There was a large group of old ladies who lunch in the back rooms, but we were one of two tables in the front room. It was a little off-putting. On a Saturday? On the Hill? I had the eggplant parmesan app as my entree. It was pretty large--five slices of heavily breaded eggplant smothered in a sweet tomato marinara. Good, but not great. I left stuffed, walked around the zoo for two hours, went home, and still felt stuffed. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I LOVE Favazzas. I'm originally from St. Louis and have been going there for years. I still try to get to Favazzas several times a year when I'm in town. It's, by far, my favorite restaurant on THe Hill although Zia's does come in at a close second. I almost always get the lemon garlic chicken dish and I'm drooling now just thinking about it. Their salads are the best (imo) on The Hill and their basket of bread is worth a visit alone. Is it authentic Italian food? Not really. I've been to Italy quite a few times so yes, I can tell the difference, but I have yet to visit an Italian restaurant in the US that tastes truly authentic so I'm not judging it on that. The staff is always nice and attentive and I never leave dissapointed. And I'm loving the newish covered patio they put in last year.

I came with a group of 30. We were seated and severed our meals in 30 minutes. All of the food was delicious. I had covatellis con broccoli. The the cheese/marinara sauce was amazing. The brick fireplace adds a nice touch to the decor. Average plate price about $15-20. I would like to come back.

The sevice was good, but the food was just okay. Nothing special and somewhat pricey. The ambiance was excellent and enjoyed the outdoor seating but i would not recommend it at all, you can definitely get better food at other places. Maybe I'm being harsh cause I expected more, who knows but im not recommending it.

Hat Date #2: Expensive Restaurant Favazzas is kind of a tough restaurant to review. You see, in that narrow maze of streets known as The Hill, Favazzas is probably my favorite "Italian" restaurant. I won't retread the definition of The Hill Italian vs actual Italian (view my previous reviews of Pietros and Zia's for my little rant), but let's just say there's a reason why Americans keel over from heart attacks at 30 and actual Italians look young until the day they die. The hard part is that in spite of Favazzas being my favorite Hill restaurant, there's virtually no way I could defend giving it 5 stars. This is the same stuff you find at every other Hill restaurant, but just better. Virtually every dish is swimming in some kind of sauce, the pasta reeks of garlic, you wait for 30-45 minutes just to sit down (no reservations taken on weekend nights), and you're crammed in with every other person who thinks they're having a reeeeel fancy meal. The waiting area frankly stinks. You put in your name and you pretty much have to mingle around in the lobby area with very little seating and hordes of other people waiting for a table. There's a small bar that you could sit at if it's not crowded (it virtually always is). But until your name is called you're pretty much relegated to sharing intimate space with strangers and avoiding the hot/cold air every time the outside door opens. Ok, but here's the catch. Everything else is actually pretty good. The food is a notch above your standard hill cuisine, the service is consistently very good (if not excellent), and prices are reasonable ($15-20 for an entree). The bread they bring out before the meal is pre-buttered and toasted, and is so completely heavenly that I think I could live on it for weeks at a time if necessary. This is heavy food, folks. H-E-A-V-Y. No light fare here. Fried meat, cream sauces and mounds of pasta are the rule, and they're light on fresh veggies. You gotta come with an appetite, and even then you'll still probably leave with a doggy bag. It's quantity over quality, but not necessarily in a bad way. See what I mean? Favazzas isn't really a great restaurant, just a really good one. I'm not a huge fan of restaurants on The Hill in general, but if someone is in the mood I always suggest Favazzas. It's the best of the worst I suppose. But that makes it sound worse than it is. It really could stand on it's own outside The Hill environment, which I suppose is the ultimate test. In my opinion, if you want to go to The Hill to eat a decent meal (or someone you know is BEGGING you to go), pick Favazzas and don't look back. You won't get perfection, but you'll get a damned good meal.

We came here on a weekday and got seated right away. It's a cozy atmosphere with dim lighting, the wait staff are prompt, and there's a small parking space around the side. It's definitely not the best Italian we've ever had. The pasta was not "al dente", but very soft. The taste of the sauces were average - definitely not authentic Italian. I'd say the best part of our meal was the bread. Nice, buttery, warm garlic bread. We tried it once but I don't believe we'll go back again.

If I could give this place 3 1/2 stars I would, but I'd sooner fall to 3 than bump it to 4. I came to Favazza's with a group of friends on a weeknight. The atmosphere seems really nice if you're on a date or with family, but it was a little too quiet, and the crowd seemed a little too old for us to be completely comfortable. It's not that our friends get really rowdy or obnoxious, but when there's a group of 6 20-something friends at a table in a restaurant, we'd like to be able to speak freely and in a tone louder than a loud whisper. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive, so that was a positive. I think I was extremely underwhelmed by my food, though. The bread they brought out initially was very tasty, but I wasn't impressed with the salad. I also don't really enjoy iceburg lettuce, so that could have been it. My main dish was the cavatelli con broccoli which is always my "go-to" meal in an italian restaurant. Pink sauces are always different everywhere you go, so I'm always excited to try a new style of the same dish. Unfortunately I thought the noodles were cooked too long because they felt a bit mushy, and the sauce was pretty thin. I like my alfredo sauces to be a bit on the thick side and I like my noodles more al dente. The broccoli was cooked perfectly, though. Don't get me wrong, my meal was very enjoyable and the prices were fine, but I wasn't jumping out of my chair. Overall, I'd have to say I still haven't been sold on the Italian restaurant hype of "The Hill."

On a visit to St. Louis on business, a group of us decided, at the encouragement of a local, to visit Favazza's. I love Italian and thought that this was a good idea. It was a good enough idea but did not rise to the level of a great or exceptional idea. Here is why: The customer service was fine and acceptable at a very busy time. The orders were taken with care after the mandatory speech about today's special. The food got back to the table in about 25 minutes with salads and appetizers in between. That was ok, from my point of view. But the food itself did not distinguish itself. I ordered my favorite in Italian establishments: Lasagna. The lasagna came to me slightly singed and my indigestion revealed to me that it was singed too much. Or, was it the very strong marinara, not very subtle or nuanced? Whatever, the food was, yes, ok but not special. I didn't hear anyone in our group complain. But, then, I didn't hear a single person say that the meal was wonderful. Hmmmm. . . . .

We dined here for a private event on the patio. So this means we had a limited menu and a bit of a different typical restaurant experience. The patio was great as others have mentioned. It's a big open space with tables in both the shade and sun. There are tvs, a fireplace, bar, etc. It is a nice space, but unfortunately the view is mostly of a street and parking lot. Say la vie. The food was okay to good. The "bruschetta" tasted like a canned tomato spread that was somewhat jazzed up. Meh. The toasted ravioli was fine, but I'm never wowed by that appetizer. I really liked the salads. The cannelloni was a-okay. The entree highlight was a pasta with a sausage, cream, sage sauce. It was quite delicious without being overly heavy. The fresh cannolis were also quite good. Most of the servers were not that interested in serving. Obnoxiously disinterested, in fact. One server did awesome things like stop serving to watch the game for a bit and ignore our requests to be served one of the meal items. He even acted put off that we wanted our salad that other tables had already been served and already finished. We had to mention the missing salad to 4 people before anything was done about it. Thankfully, one of the servers we mentioned it to was Michael. He was great. He apologized profusely and got us one immediately. Great server, can't say the same for his co-workers. The female bartender was also a good server.

I'm not as crazy about this place as everyone else it seems. Now in all fairness, I don't generally seek out Italian restaurants....I usually go for other cuisines. However, I went along with some friends last night. The food wasn't great....but it was definitely GOOD! My table mates all agreed that we've had better Italian. The decor/atmosphere is typical Family-style Italian. The service was swift and efficient, but not particularly warm or engaging. I'd go back.

I had lunch here this week. Not the best Italian I've ever had but also not the worst. Sauce seemed to be too sweet. and the people I was with didn't care much for their meals either. The place was empty and the waitress was aloof, although we did sit at our table for almost 2 hours!

The patio was very nice on a early spring day. My family very much liked their meals, but my Baked Mostaccioli with Salsiccia was terrible. It had obviously been prepared day(s) in advance and re-heated. The pasta was overcooked and the sauce had all been absorbed into the pasta. Furthermore the salsiccia was cooked to death. Stay away from this dish.

Our group of 18 came here to celebrate a graduation. Originally I had asked for a semi-private room in the basement, but somehow that got lost, so we were on the main floor with everyone else. I was a little worried about the guests being able to mingle, but they positioned the long table on an "outside edge" of that partition of the restaurant. Across from the kitchen entrance, but surprisingly I didn't see that bothered anyone. The noise level was fairly high, but not atrocious, and they accommodated the youngest family member nicely with a booster seat at the end of the table. I requested ahead of time if I could bring a cake, and they kept it for us in the freezer (ice cream cake) until we were ready to eat it. They surprised me by cutting it into the correct number of pieces and bringing it out on their plates! I have to say the wait staff was very attentive and friendly, which was amazing, because there were several other large tables similar to ours there on a Friday night. The food was tasty but I didn't hear anyone say it was "great", although there seemed to be plentiful servings. Several to-go boxes. I would go there again with a big group, as the variety and price is reasonable. The ambience and décor are very much "The Hill", so if that's what you're going for, you'll find it there.

Great Italian food! The first time I went there was on a first date and a year and a half later he proposed in the same booth where we sat the very first time. We've been coming back ever since, for the last 13 years. We've never been disappointed. You are really lucky if Michael or his mom are your server! Favazza's is our "Little Italian Restaurant" and we go every chance we get!

We went on a Thursday night and got seated right away. The server was polite, prompt, and informative. The bread basket had plenty of options and plenty of portions. My husband had the linguini with shrimp & scallops, and while he loved it, the portion was huge and he couldn't finish it (a rarity for him!). I had the cannelonni, and it was just right - flavorful, not drowned in sauce, and a decent portion size. The outdoor patio was great - plenty of space, great abiance, and positioned just right to catch the breeze.

I have always thought Favazza's is good place to have nice Italian dinner.... when my other favorites are too busy. I just can't say I have ever really been impressed by them. I haven't been back since about jan 2012, but the last time I was there, the food was good, the service was good, but they just were not great. I have always come away happier at other options on the hill. The decor of the restaurant is nothing to die for either. I will say they usually seat you faster than other restaurant on the hill and the servers are nice and friendly. maybe the next time I am there I will order an item that will knock my socks off, but we will have to wait and see.

Start with a generally unfriendly hostess, ditto with the bartender, add in a robotic server, soggy toasted ravioli, average dinner salad and you end up with a very mediocre dining experience. On the bright side, the homemade lasagna was very good and the bus boy was helpful and friendly, but there is plenty of room for improvement. The place was crowded, and the staff seemed to take their business for granted. However, I won't be returning anytime soon.

Now that Zia's has temporarily closed its doors because of that fire, Favazza's has officially become my favorite go to restaurant on The Hill. Is it fancy? No. Is it somewhere you go on a special occasion? Probably not. But is it always delicious? Yes? Do I ever have to wait for a table for hours like at most of the restaurants on the Hill? Nope? Is the atmosphere amazing? Definitely. Favazza's has been the place I go more often than not lately when I am looking for a carb binge of disgusting proportions. The portions are massive and you can get three meals out of some their dishes. I am a huge fan of the Tutto Mare. It's creamy and delicious and easily feeds two. They pack it with shrimp and seafood and the butter sauce does not over power the amazing flavors, it only enhances them. Also, the Lasagna is amazing and huge as well. Their house dressing is sweet without being over powering. I highly suggest starting with a house salad. The bread on the table is always plentiful and is garlicy, buttery, and warm. I could give a place 5 stars just for giving me free garlic bread alone. If you want a great meal for not a ton of money, no long line and a place where you can wear jeans, Favazza's is the place for you. Oh, and they have their own parking lot, so you don't even need to drive around the one way streets on The Hill and get lost and frustrated on your way to dinner.

A friend and I were wanting Italian food the other night and stumbled across this place. The food was so good!!! I had the house salad and fettuccinni Alfredo! The cream sauce was so flavorful and tasty! We also had a red sparkling wine which complimented the meal well. The prices were average as so was the bottle of wine. I like how they had the restaurant was sectioned off with the patio area more casual and the inside a little more dressier. Overall, I really liked this place and would definitely return.

Had the veal parm, not so good... Lots of mushy breading and cheese and very little veal. Service was good. Nice atmosphere.

Simply the BEST!!! I have had dinner, at many restaurants on "The Hill" in St. Louis! BUT...Favazza's is by far the BEST!! I have never had anything there that was super yummy - but my personal pick is their Canneloni with red and white sauce. MMMmmmm....YUMMYLICIOUS!!! I really need to get back there again!

My favorite restaurant on the Hill. I've been going here for years and years, and it hasn't changed a bit. Also, unlike a great deal of the restaurants on the Hill, it has stayed in business. Their dinner salads are spectacular. They also bring out a large bowl of regular sliced bread and buttery oven cooked bread, which is so delicious that you are usually eat too much and are too full for your entree. My favorite dish is the meat tortellini with pancetta and peas (hold the mushrooms, please).

Bottom line - in a city filled with fantastic, reasonably-priced Italian restaurants, Favazza's isn't a place I would recommend or visit a second time. I am a native St. Louisan, an Italian, and a person who has worked in-and-around the food industry off-and-on for most of my life. My mom and my girlfriend and I were looking for a place to eat a last minute dinner. Having not lived in St. Louis for quite a while, and having a great time introducing my beautiful city to someone special to me, we turned to Yelp for a recommendation. Now, I'm sure there are great menu items to be found on their menu, but based on what we ordered and how it was prepared and served, Favazza's seems to riding on the coattail traditions and success of restaurants and restaurant families who's standards and execution are far and away better than what they're offering. It plays both sides of the formal/informal street in a way that doesn't actually deliver either styles needs or promises. Semi-formally dressed servers serving people in shorts and t-shirts higher priced St. Louis style Italian than they can get elsewhere seems to give the chefs and servers the impression that they can charge what they want for things - and serve them however they like, but they don't really have to execute on either side of the line because people will keep coming back. Which is apparently true; maybe because there are simply enough diners in a great food city to not suffer from a lack of return business - or, because when it's all said and done most people really don't know the difference. Hard to believe, but based on how full Favazza's was when we ate there - apparently true. The service was just plain bad; we sat for 20 minutes before being acknowledged by our server, they got our drink order wrong, and the table maintainance was slow and sloppy. When we asked for things like more bread for our entree, it simply didn't come. (Great bread btw - apparently St. Louis Hill bakeries still have their act well together). Rather than go line item specific on all our food choices I will simply say that I resent paying more for bad versions of St. louis classics at Favazza's (like a St. Louis style Iceberg Provel and deli-meat salad) than I could get at a chain like The Pasta House and I consider being served fake crabmeat and pre-cooked shrimp in an overcooked and $20 seafood pasta nothing short of an insult to me as a customer and a slap in the face to St. Louis.

You can't go wrong with Favazza's on the Hill. It's a little pricey but it's a safe bet for quality service and good food. I usually go with the Cavatelli Con Broccoli. The portion is big enough for either two people or leftovers for the next day. Is it my favorite Italian restaurant in St. Louis? Probably not. But for an old-school, authentic Italian meal, you don't have to look much further than Favazzas.

Just ate lunch at Favazzas not bad but not the best Italian i have ever eaten. The overall experience was average, and probably would not return again. They do have a "family bathroom". Giving it was almost 10 bucks more than last nights meal, Guido's Pizzeria and Tapas, not the greatest. Also half the amount of food.

Favazza's is a nice place to go out and eat. I had eaten there not too long ago because my family was having a mini family reunion of sorts, mainly just the immediate family and not some huge deal. The service at Favazza's was great and the atmosphere was wonderful, not stuffy and it did not feel as though I should have worn a suit and tie to dinner, but it was not super casual either. I would say dressy casual. Anyway, the atmosphere was nice and they didn't rush us out. They allowed us to eat and catch up with everyone over dinner. Favazza's also has nice food as well. When you go and eat there you know that you have eaten on the hill. The meals are nice and tasty and fill you up nicely.

Pretty good place. I went a few different times in college even though I was broke, and I was disappointed a couple of times. Most of the time, though, it was fabulous. A little pricey. he bread is INCREDIBLE!

We live in St. Louis, and have eaten at Favazza's before & were pleased. However tonight we were so disappointed, that we won't go back. I had tortellini, which had absolutely no flavor, and sauce was runny. My husband had baked mostaccioli with meatballs. The meatballs were good. The Mostaccioli was dry & looked & tasted as though it had been sitting all day. Our waiter was invisible most of the evening. What happened to you Favazza's? You lost two good customers.

LOVE Favazza's. This is my favorite restaurant on The Hill. Cavatelli con Broccoli is my favorite dish there. I like to take the leftovers into work the next day and make my coworkers jealous.

This review is specifically for Favazza's special events catering, which they can do through their restaurant or through their Rose of the Hill banquet center. I booked Favazza's to cater my wedding reception, and they did a wonderful job. We chose the three pasta buffet, which was only $9.99 per person, including staff to set up the buffet and clean up the plates. For a small fee, they cut and served our cake for us, since our venue was not able to provide it. The food was delicious- exactly like you get in the restaurant. If you want meat dishes, you have to pay more. The vegetable lasagna was to die for! The buffet included three large servings of pasta (we had tons of leftovers), garlic bread, and pre-plated house salads. We got tons of compliments on the food-everyone said it was way better than standard wedding reception fare! I worked with Quentin, who was gracious, helpful, and wonderful. I also spoke to John Favazza on occasion. I would recommend Quentin, as catering service is his specialty and he is much friendlier. Quentin even contacted my reception venue to work through the details and gave me excellent suggestions. Highly recommend for catering!

at best average... in college I worked at a Dr's office and once a week we would have reps come in and bring us lunch, because we were close to the hill Favazza's was in the office A LOT. White sauce, too fake garlicy Red sauce, needs a kick Bread, good, I think they get it from Vitalli's the salad is good, that is what makes it a 3

Hat Date #2 So, this was my first time to Favazza's. And I made one serious mistake, eating at all during the day before I went. In typical Italian American food serving style, there is way too much food, and by the time I got there, I wasn't really hungry enough to fully indulge. I recommend fasting all day and then being able to eat as much as you want until you have to roll out of there. Getting in: On the weekends (don't know about weekdays) you cannot make a reservation. Which seems weird at first, but then you see how much business they do and you realize they don't really need your reservation, they are going to have people in those seats. So you get there and put your name in. I think we were told it would be an hour. There were a lot of people in there waiting, so we decided to leave and come back. There are not a lot of things to do in the area, and it was kind of cold, so we drove around a bit instead of walking. Atmosphere: Overall, your standard decor. A few glass hanging lamps, fresh carnations on the table, a few Italian-esque paintings. A nice thing, they have a place to hang your coat. Not a coat check, just an area to hang your coat. I like it, no one to tip, but I don't have to deal with the aggravation of having my coat hanging over my chair. But here is my complaint section, I don't like sitting in the middle of the room. There was always someone walking on one side of us or the other. I think all restaurants need to update to single aisle. Not a strike against the establishment itself, but something I am just not a particular fan of. Aside from the constant stream of people, you can hear just about everyone around you when you are in the middle like that. A guy to my right basically called another diner fat to his daughter that he was out to dinner with (I hope to God it was his daughter and not an awkward first date arranged with no pictures). That kind of thing can just be a bit distracting. It makes it a good "I already know the person I am with and we can laugh at these people" restaurant, but not a good place to go if you are trying to get to know someone (first or second date) or meeting with people you haven't seen in a while... because other people will be listening to your conversations. Or at least I will. Food: I was super excited about the toasted and pre-buttered bread. This was a thing of beauty. Really, every restaurant needs to do this. I need a few more places in StL that make a real salad, any suggestions? It wasn't bad, and actually the vinaigrette was really tasty, but it was basic iceberg lettuce (why do people still eat this?) and sprinkled with a light layer of cheese (maybe provel? hard to say, I think provel on salad is an acceptable way to eat it... but then why am I eating this salad?) I ordered a pasta with shrimp, mushrooms and peppers, with a red sauce. Thank God. Because my boyfriend ordered something with a garlic butter white sauce that seemed to be on a lot of dishes. And oh goodness, it was rich. I wouldn't have been able to eat much of that. BUT really happy with the red sauce, it had a good bit of spice to it, which I enjoy when I go to an Italian place, a lot of places have too bland of a red. Anyway, delicious. And plenty to take home. I wish I could say we got dessert, and I could review that too... maybe next time. Service: I am going to give this a solid good. Nothing spectacular, he rattled off the specials, checked in on us a few times. Was not over interested in us, but not neglectful. Solid service, no frills. In my book, this was an easy 20% tip. Overall, I liked it. Nothing jarring, nothing amazing. Solid Italian restaurant on the Hill. I will likely be back. Watch out Favazzas.

We were greeted pleasantly and seated right away on a Friday night, arriving after 7 p.m. One of the cozy corner booths--which, with flowers, was nice. Candles on the tables would be a nice accent. The water glasses are too small, as are those for wine (4 oz. only and it's $8 a glass...$$$). Liked the garlic bread (soaked in butter). Meal portions were generous--the Sicilian steak was done to perfection; a hefty 12 oz. cut requiring a box for leftovers. It came with a small salad (snappy dressing) and a side of pasta with a somewhat sweet (for my taste) red sauce. My date ordered the special; a pasta with asparagus tips, red peppers and scallops. While the sauce was flavorful with a heavy garlic accent, the scallops were minuscule, and not plentiful enough to make up the difference--only half the size of your little finger nail. With tip, we got out of there for about $95. Seemed expensive, considering just three glasses of wine. But, over all, a solid establishment. Enjoyable.

We used to love this place but the last few times we've been there, it was really expensive for what you get. We still really like the food but the prices have climbed to the point where they are pretty darn close to high-end resturants in St. Louis, but Favazza's is still very casual. For example, the Steak Modiga is wonderful, but it used to be $14, last time we were there it was $23. For a $23 steak, I'd choose a much fancier place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
