Fantastic views and even better food. Must tries include the burger, and their gooey butter for dessert.

The view from the dining room can't be beat. My wife and I started our meal with fried chipotle shrimp, and were surprised by the generous helping. The shrimp and sauces were both fantastic. We both ordered the sirloin, she had salad and I had the clam chowder. The chowder was delicious and there was a surprisingly large amount of clam for a cup of soup. Again, we both had the sirloin. My wife mentioned hers being cooked perfectly (for her taste: medium). Mine was a little over-cooked (ordered rare), and thus a little more tough than I'd have liked...but not enough to keep me from enjoying it. My wife had the baby red potatoes, and I had one of the biggest baked potatoes I've had in a restaurant. Both were fantastic. Wait staff was great, and more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure our meal was exceptional.

First the ambiance and location are undeniable for Baxter's. The views of the lake are great and more importantly the food is good. So why do I give it four stars you ask? Well when we walked into the restaurant we were told it was a ten minute wait for a table. Not a big deal. We decided to walk into the restaurant to look at the views while we waited. We were surprised to find the restaurant was half empty. There were tons of tables available inside and outside on the patio. When we walked back to the waiting area, we noticed that other parties were being quoted a wait time of 15 to 45 minutes. And some groups even left after hearing that. That put us off a little bit, since I'm not sure what they were trying to achieve, but once we were seated it was a great place to be.

A pleasant reminder that fresh seafood can be found here in the landlocked areas of the Midwest! The seared scallops were nothing short of amazing. Don't even think about leaving without having Baxter's grilled shrimp and a cup of the loaded baked potato soup! This review would easily be five star but for one thing - the bar. The cocktails were lackluster. When we asked the server for a rum based drink recommendation we were answered with a flash of annoyance as she isn't a rum drinker and simply referred us to the menu which we already reviewed. The service in the restaurant area was genuinely friendly and attentive. We will visit this place again without question when we are in the area, but will likely avoid the bar.

As someone who comes down to the lake several times a year, I have visited many restaurants in the surrounding area. My family and I consider this to be the best food at the lake! Their BOGO apps for happy hour can't be beat! The spinach and artichoke dip is fabulous, and I've never had a better plate of chicken strips or potato skins. This place is top notch. Come sit outside in cooler weather, or even enjoy the view from the inside bar and restaurant.

The beautiful mixture of classy dining with a gorgeous view is how this restaurant can be described. As an appetizer, I tasted the soup of the day - shrimp gumbo. The mixture of the flavors had a great Cajun kick, where the spiciness never overpowered the entire dish. The next dish was the calamari, where the pieces could have been cut. Maybe it's not cut in order to show how fresh and amazing the dish was combined with the sauce. The main entree was the blackened Mahi Mahi, which was grilled to perfection, along with the vegetable of the day- green beans- and Baxter's rice. The cherry to the cake was the dessert platter, where all 11 of us in our party gobbled the three desserts the restaurant offered. Friendly and attentive waiters, and an amazing atmosphere!

Really enjoyed Baxters! Steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The wasabi mashed potatoes were delicious and unusual. It's located on a bluff over looking the lake of the Ozarks. There are many windows and the view is really great. Our dessert, caramel gooey butter with cinnamon ice cream, was probably the best part of the meal. We had 6pm reservations and I was pretty perturbed at 6:20 when we weren't seated, especially since we had tickets to a show at 8. But once seated our service was quick and excellent. The food is a bit pricey-$60 for 2 people- but all in all totally worth it!

Excellent views!! Really nice environment excellent atmosphere for all ages. A great place for a date night to impress your date, or a nice place for a Sunday dinner with the family. An upscale restaurant that lets you dine fresh off the lake with no judgement. Every time we visit lake of the ozarks we make it a point to come here to eat.

We were in lake of ozark on a 3 day vacation. Baxters looked like a slightly upscale restaurant and we wanted to get something really delicious in a great setting. We wanted the patio seating to take in the sunset view. After a quick wait we were led into a comfortable tall dining table with incredible views of the lake. The waitresses were very attentive and explained the menu and specials. Good collection of beers and wines. We ordered a long island ice tea and a local ozarks based lager. Got a taste of the beer before selecting (great service since the waitress asked whether I want to try before I buy while in other places I find them simply smiling and not being too helpful). Very good stuff. Then we got mussels in garlic and butter sause, bacon wrapped pork, scallops and Pacific rim pasta. This is where it turns to the average. The mussells and bread was very good but a little salty. The pork was dry and didn't have anything to dip into. Pacific rim pasta was too much like Thai noodles. The scallops saved the day... very very nice. But for an expensive restaurant I expect the food to be stars. Here the view/ambience and the service were stars propping up the average food. I suggest this place if you prefer the ambience and service over great food.

Just had a quick lunch. Started out with clam chowder really spicy and yummy but should have been served hotter to the table, especially since I asked for it hot. Had the creole shrimp, expecting hot and spicy, temperature wise was okay, spice wise, very bland. Extremely disappointing.

View can't be beat-fantastic - had the BOGO happy hour appetizers and both crab cakes and mushrooms were first rate

Incredible food! I had the Baked Potato Soup, Filet Mignon and Loaded Mashed Potatoes and was more than satisfied. Not to mention they bring out delicious rolls for the table with a sweet butter spread. We make it a point to eat here every time we visit the Ozarks. Can be a little pricey depending on what you get but it is definitely worth every penny. Window views of the lake are great, and they also have happy hour specials in the bar and patio area. Definitely recommend this place.

This was our second visit to Baxter's. We went here to get drinks and desert and watch the sunset. Great lake view and sunset spot! Our service was slow and it took a while to just get drinks but we weren't really in a hurry anyway. The gooy butter cake with cinnamon ice cream is delicious!! (And only 6 bucks!) I had Baxter's summer drink which is a mango margarita and strawberry daiquiri mixed, frozen. It was soo good! We sat out on the patio in a less formal seating area that has couch like chairs and a table in the middle. Very relaxing spot and perfect for just drinks and desert.

The view from the outdoors is very nice, they have a big variety of sea food, with very innovative ways of cooking , my favorite was the scallops and the salmon. The potato soap is very nice, side salads are ok. The prices are not cheap but not crazy expensive. I would have gave it 5 stars except for the poor service we had from our waiter.

Had the trout and pork tenderloins. Yum! New York standard in Lake Ozark...go figure. Could do without the cinnamon sugar on the sweet potato fries, but they re-did without thank you. Nice wine selection. Will return.

Great Lake view with polite staff. I got Cajun shrimp pasta but substituted chicken. It wasn't as spicy as I would have liked. My boyfriend got steak and said it was great. I also ordered a roll on the side that the waitress forgot about. Overall a great restaurant.

Love everything about this place. the greeters are friendly, the servers are attentive, and the bartenders are skilled. go for happy hour where you can enjoy their outstanding appetizers BOGO! the potato skins are the best! I haven't had a bad meal here. finish everything off with the ooey gooey butter cake. wow!

What a great place to eat! Not only is the food excellent. Bu the view is killer. This place was recommended to me by a friend and it was spot on. The menu provided plenty of good choices but after recommendation from the waitress I went with the ribeye, cajun style. This along with the wasabi smashed potatoes it was fantastic. This town is very touristy but this restaurant is so not so and adds some class. Do yourself a flavor and go.

Delicious food, but the service was horrible. Not impressed with the initial hostess. We did not have a reservation and we were treated as such. Will not go back again.

If your going to eat here on a Friday or Saturday night you better make reservations. This is a very busy place. We didn't have reservations and they told us 40 minutes which for a Friday night that to me is acceptable. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer. It was very good and portion was more than adequate. My wife ordered the Carbonara and I ordered the 14 .oz Cajun Ribeye. Both dishes were very good and didn't disappoint. Nice atmosphere, but was very loud. We will recommend to our friends and will definitely visit again!

Very nice dinner and for mid-Missouri great seafood entrees. The yelp reservations option worked like a champ with email confirmation and you can make a seating request which I recommend (window lake view. Only reason for four stars is the price...

We had a great meal here on a recent lake weekend trip. Saturday nights are always busy, but the staff got us in quickly since we are regulars, which was much appreciated. Their complimentary rolls are fantastic. It's hard not to overdose on them before the food comes out. Their beer cheese soup is one of the best I've ever had. Very rich with wonderful flavor; don't pass it up even if you aren't a fan of beer, or even cheese. Chances are after tasting this soup, you'll change your mind. I had the caprese salad which had nicely portioned slices of mozzarella cheese along with the tomato slices topped with a delicious balsamic. There is nothing worse than a caprese salad that scrimps on the mozzarella so kudos to Baxters for not disappointing. The bone in ribeye was great and they offer a nice selection of sides to accompany the meals. Their special for the evening was an encrusted salmon dish that did not disappoint. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The only suggestion I would have is for Baxters to offer a NZ Sauvignon Blanc by the glass rather than only by the bottle. Most higher end restaurants have gone from only serving CA styles to NZ since it has become more commonly ordered. The Sterling option was good, but just not a favorite of mine. We had a great dinner and look forward to coming back again soon.

The best black bean soup and ribs I've ever had! Busy Saturday night but service was superb. We chose to sit in the bar so we didn't have to wait 45 minutes. Lost the beautiful sunset view but was worth it to avoid the wait.

Great food. No sandwiches on the dinner menu. Have been there for both lunch & dinner & much prefer lunch. Felt the portions were way to large at dinner. Would have much preferred half the food at half the price.

This is pretty much the epitome of lakeside dining. Some of the menu items are a bit pricey, but there are some selections that won't break the bank. Views are spectacular from many tables, including the patio area by the bar. They have some great happy hour deals, although we didn't take advantage of them (pretty crowded for a Thursday in March). We had the Blackened Shrimp Salad and the Blackened Mahi Mahi. Both were very good, properly seasoned and served at the perfect temp. OUr daughter had a cheeseburger and fries - didn't try the burger, but she liked it. Fries were good. Service was attentive and friendly. We'll probably be back someday to try the happy hour specials.

The reviews on Yelp sold us on trying it. So glad we did! (Although I do disagree with the $$ price range. I think $$$ is more accurate.) When in a seafood house, I gotta go that route. We ordered the mussels to share. Our entrees came with a salad or soup and we were still eating those when the app arrived. So timing was a smidgen off. (Happened for our entrees too. We were still eating mussels when they brought our meals. Big pet peeve of ours!) Mussels were, well, amazing! There must have been 2 dozen in the bowl and I am still dreaming of the broth they were swimming in. Hubby had the Baxter Duo which was a 6 oz filet and scallops. Both the scallops and filet were cooked perfectly and the said everything was seasoned very well. I had the Blacked Mahi Mahi with a Mango Salsa. Loved the fish! So delish and perfectly seared. The salsa was good but VERY sweet. The balance of mango and peppers was off in my opinion. Also, true to form, a bloody mary was ordered. (He is all about those!) He of course ordered it spicy and it did not disappoint on flavor or spice. Atmosphere was cool and the view was a nice attraction (especially since we were there to see sunset). We will definitely be back!

Foods not bad but a little over priced. I'd like to try the dinner menu instead of the lunch though.

You'll be treated like crap. This place was AWEFUL. We went tonight and I asked for a children's menu for a medical condition. "No problem" our waitress said and brought me a children's menu and took my order off it; My husband ordered a $40 steak off the adult menu. We had already had 4 $10 drinks from the bar. We were clearly not trying to pull some cheapskate thing. 25 minutes later (mind you our order wasn't put on for TWENTY FIVE minutes) our waitress comes out and says "my manager says you cannot order off the kids menu die to your medical condition" I said "No problem if that's how he runs this place we will be happy to pay for our drinks and leave" and she said "obviously he needs to come talk to you guys" he came out and basically said he didn't give 2 zits if we were unhappy and tough cookies. I told him I'd be more than happy to let the world know on help that there was no substations or leeway for any medical or allergy needs at this restaurant and he just had no problem whatsoever with that SO, IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A CUSTOMER AND HAVE YOUR NEEDS MET (when your paying $40 a plate at some crappy lake restaurant) OR HAVE ANY SPECIAL REQUESTS (medical, allergy or otherwise) THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!!

    (1)
  • Elana L.

Absolutely the BEST view of the lake from a restaurant!!! The food was priced very reasonable for lunch and came out in nice large portions. We will definitely be back!

  • B. Ann M.

Both male bartenders are good people. Bread is the BEST in the midwest. Caesar Salad is yummy with coarse pepper added. Potato soup is delish - make sure you get extra cheese. Fairly decent wine & vodka selection. They do a great job of keeping the bar kid-free. And the views are spectacular. ONE DOWNFALL - the smoking is ridiculous. I cannot believe this place (the Lake in general) is so behind on this aspect to dining. The staff & owners do not try to limit the smoke... I have a headache everyday after going to Baxter's... :( If you are having a toss-up between HK's, JB Hook's, or Baxter's.. DEFINITELY choose Baxter's. HK's gives you horrible tummy aches, their alcohol is overpriced, and if the owners are dining at the same time as you are - be ready to be treated as second class citizens.

  • C. A.

Been here a number of times and it was fantastic: clean, great service, great view and excellent food. Best all around restaurant at the lake. I have tried the Caesar (just ok), the salmon which my wife and mother and law LoVED that came with delicious mashed potatoes. Also had the spicy shrimp Cajun pasta (as good as it gets) and Carbonara pasta both delicious. I have also had their delicious steak with an awesome loaded baked potato. The tortilla soup is also good. I asked our waiter the last time I was there what was good and he said everything was good and popular - most the times I don't believe that but I think it may be true at Baxter's. one anecdote we got from our waiter that Baxter was no longer serving a dish from the menu because they got a new supplier for that fish and the Chef refused to make anything with it because it didn't meet his standards. That is a nice reason to not have something on the menu. Buffalo chicken salad is delicious. Perfect kick. Great sauce just enough Gorgonzola. Reuben had once won't have again - I have had many Reuben's that are better. Fried chipotle shrimp very good app. French dip is good especially if you get it with grilled mushrooms and onions. I didn't like the wasabi Downside: a little pricey. There is a nice bar area but separate enough from the main dining area. Highly recommended. Go here.

Absolutely delicious food and really great service at Baxter's. Incredibly beautiful view of the lake from any spot in the restaurant! We were at first unable to get a reservation for our desired time but were promised a call back with any openings. They called us back promptly and got a reservation set up only 45 minutes after our desired time. They charge a $10 corkage fee if you bring your own wine, but other than that service and pricing is reasonable for the restaurant and quality of food/atmosphere. MUST ORDER: gooey butter cake with cinnamon ice cream. Absolutely delicious.

  • David V.

We were very pleased with the food and service at Baxter's. The food, although very tasty, might be a hair on the overpriced side, however, it is a tourist area, so that is to be expected. What surprised us the most was the very reasonably priced wine list. In some cases, it was cheaper to order by the glass, vs. the bottle. It was a very enjoyable meal and the view from the outdoor seating is wonderful.

Casual dining. Great views of the lake and reasonably priced. (2 drinks, 2 lunch meals came to about $40. The service is great and the food was very good. I will return!

Awesome food. We got the salmon and the shrimp pasta. I also got the chocolate martini. The service was great too. Very friendly ppl and perfect lake view. Everything was perfect. Will come back if we are in the area.

Everything about our dinner was fantastic. It was fairly busy and our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Our waitress was excellent and was attentive, but not overbearing. We had our daughters, ages 8 and 11 with us and they brought their meals out first. The food was excellent. I had the carbonara pasta and my wife had the trout. Both were generous portions and were very tasty. I wholeheartedly recommended Baxter's to anyone.

One of the best restaurants in Lake of the Ozarks. Great food with a beautiful view of the lake. Must go place near the lake.!

    (5)
  • Jen B.

Disappointing visit on our last night in the Ozarks. Drinks were great but the food was not impressive. Out of a table of 6, only one person finished their food. Nothing was technically "wrong" with it but it just didn't taste good. Overall kind of blah for the prices and interior. We tried two types of steak, a pasta, sea bass and a salmon. Just didn't stand out in any way.

  • Dana N.

Fish as fresh as it can be in this part of the country, I felt like I was dining at the coast again. Incredible potato soup and sides as well. Worth the price per plate (on the high end, even in the off season). The cocktails leaved a lot to be desired. They were heavy on the booze and low on flavor and finesse. The dessert and views were extraordinary! The night time ambiance is great both for dates and for families, but be prepared for a dark venue which can make the menu harder to see for some people. We went back twice in a 3 day trip so that must say something!

    (4)
  • Scott A.

Don't know if the food was actually great or the wait just made bad food taste good. Was told 50-55 minutes and ended up waiting over 2 hours. After numerous check-ins was constantly told we are two tables away. Also saw 4-5 other people complain and leave after 2 hours of waiting.

    (1)
  • Cory K.

Went there and had a very bad experience. I ordered the fish and the bartender told me it had gone bad!!! So I gave it another go, French dip very very sub par. Over cooked dry and tasted like week old rubbery steak!! And I paid for it after explaining it was not good and only took a single bite of it... will not be going back.

Ok! Food is always excellent. Finally have added a craft ipa and a good stout. I understand you need near beer (bud style) for the average joe. A good beer is like a fine wine.

Love Baxter's! The happy hour special is out of this world, the bartenders are top notch, the food is excellent and the view is amazing! You get it all at Baxter's!!

  • Cathie M.

LOVE Baxter's. It's Our Friday night ritual. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by Ted the owner you know that you've made the right choice for dinner. Enter the bar area and Marty or Bernie will do their best to find you a seat and serve you one of the best drinks at the lake. Now let's talk about the food. Always excellent no matter what I've ordered. The trout is amazing and ribs (I order them dry) are some of the best I've ever had and The portions are huge. Kudos to Chef Cory. The restaurant side is laid out perfectly the high back booths give you a sense of privacy and yet every table has a perfect view of some of the most stunning sunsets you'll ever see. Be sure to stop in to Baxter's the next time you're at the lake you won't be disappointed.

Nice modern place with a view of Lake Ozark that is one of the very best. Great service, great bar. One of our favorite wintertime places because the dining room is warm and cozy. Great soups, red meat and seafood. They have a daily fresh vegetable which is crisp and might fine.

  • Justin R.

This place in INCREDIBLE!! It managed to satisfy a super picky (and pregnant) food snob... i.e. ME! :-) WAY better than JJ's restaurant, and the only place to get a good steak at the lake! A must try!!

  • Alexandra L.

I've been going to the lake for years now and just tried Baxter's, LOVED IT! Great building, excellent atmosphere inside, and their buffalo chicken salad was AMAZING. Admittedly I love any good buffalo chicken salad, but this one was truly one of the best ones I've had! Their Pinot Grigio wasn't half bad either! We usually go to JB Hooks which is good as well, but this spot is my new favorite! An upscale atmosphere without being too upscale, there are so many places at the lake that are either casual or fancy, this is definitely a good medium!

    (5)
  • John W.

Very nice atmosphere and view of the lake. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is very good but don't go if you are on a budget as menu prices are on the higher end of other restaurants on the lake but remember you get what you pay for! And yes, all the reviews on the gooey butter cake and cinnamon ice cream for dessert were right on, this dessert is a must!!

  • Jean S.

Great view excellent service and good food!

  • Brennan B.

Food was pretty good. The tuna app was a letdown. If you're wanting a cocktail, this is not the place. I ordered a negroni in June (classic) and the bartender had never heard of it, so I got a whiskey sour that had a 1-count of whiskey. Dessert was solid: caramel gooey butter cake with cinnamon ice cream. Decent wine list.

Favorite place to eat and drink at the lake hands down. First time ordering fish here I was nervous, but it turns out they get fresh shipments from Hawaii daily. In turn, everything I've ever had here has been extremely fresh. I typically order the ahi salad when we come in. Pure perfection. Definitely out go to place when here!

We visit the lake a couple of times each month. Baxter's is by far the best restaurant here. The bar is great, bartenders are great people and we often go early for happy hour when we haven't made a reservation on busy nights. The shrimp cocktail is outstanding. Every single soup they serve is excellent. My favorites are the tomato and the gumbo. It's spicy. The Mahi Mahi is consistently wonderful along with the Tuna Salad. The view is absolutely gorgeous. You won't be disappointed.

We were looking for a place to go to dinner to for our last night at the Lake of the Ozarks and decided to try Baxter's Lakeside Grill. As it was off season it was easy to make a reservation with Open Table off of the website. My wife ordered the Baked Potato soup and it was fantastic. Very creamy and delicious. The rolls were very good also. I ordered the Creole Shrimp pasta and was given a HUGE portion. The dish was teaming with Shrimp and delicious. My wife ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and really liked the spices, mango salsa and flavored rice. The views from the restaurant are really nice and we had an excellent view of the lake and sunset. If you are at the Lake of the Ozarks I would put Baxter's on your list of places to try !

What a beautiful view! We had reservations Saturday night at 8:00. It's a good thing because there was an hour and a half wait for people without reservations. Took about 10 minutes to be seated and they sat us right in from of the huge windows over looking the lake. Beautiful!! We both ordered the Filet and got blue cheese potatoes and sweet potato fries and caesar salads. Salads were perfect! The steaks were amazing, cooked perfectly. The service was pretty good, but not quite 5 stars...

  • Gregory P.

Normally a wonderful place to eat. A busy friday night and a less than stellar meal. Our server, Ashley, was very attentive even though the place was slammed. I had the pork loin with mashed sweet potatos . The meat was tough and chewy and the mashed potatos, while pureed smooth, had some kind of fibrous potato parts in out that stuck out like orange hair. Less than visually appeally and not very appetizing either. "Tim's Salad" was good but the chicken, dry and tasteless, didn't seem to add to the dish. While this dinner was less than ideal, I have had many excellent meals there. I would still recommend the place. I hope that this meal was a bad exception to a very yummy rule. Otherwise, I would have rated this two stars. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. And a wonderful view a sunset to boot.

Made a reservation online through Yelp. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Two minutes before our reservation time, they came and found us and led us to our seats. The service was fantastic as was the found. I told my wife she should get the filet mignon since Baxter's looked like one of the few places that make better steaks than I do. She was not disappointed at all. I had the pecan crusted Walleye which was also outstanding. We'll definitely go back next time we are in town.

The wait is usually long. It's newer on the lake, carries a crowd that is "not the usual riff raff" as my stepfather said. Looks like a lot of golfers, left over 90s left over preppies, and middle age crowd hang out here for good food. Just think everything on menu is $10.99 or up so it's not cheap. The quality of food is good. It's basically a steak and seafood place with a medium sized menu. Good quality food but service at bar can be slow on a busy night. Once you get their attention and want to sit and eat in bar, your drinks never go dry, your food comes otu quick and the clarity of the LCD's are awesome for the sports enthusiast aka ME. My parents think it's their new hotspot and I think they will cater to regulars. One thing not to avoid......the spinach artichoke dip is amazing. Best I've had. Everyone who was going out on my visit loved their food & service.

Nice place with nice views of the lake!! Clean & contemporary! Nice bar/lounge! A little expensive, but the food is good, we have tried the Flat Iron Steak and it was good, and for lunch the Turkey Rueben which was also good! This is upscale casual place!

Good environment . Good wine. Very good asparagus soup. But main course and desert is pretty disappointing (rough fish, super sweet gooey cake)

One of my favorites at The Lake. Food is good and the atmosphere is more modern than most of the area. The view is great as well. Lunch and dinner are both good. I do not like their steaks, but sandwiches and salads are very nice.

the best spot at the lake, my absolute favorite. I had to stop by and write a review after having wrote a nasty one for Lo's crab shack, I had to get a little more positive and no one deserves a good review more than baxters!! We went there the night after going to Lo's and were reminded of what GREAT service really is. It was my mom, sister, and I's bday weekend and so they brought us out a 3 portion serving of their butter cake (to DIE for, my favorite cake ever, anywhere, hands down!). We love you baxters!!! :)

Such a great place. Baxter's does an amazing job combining the lakeside vistas with a friendly staff and amazing food. Nothing is over wrought or overdone. Clean, white plates serve as a canvas for food that created without pret and

Great food, great service! Started with the prosciutto and cheese plate. Prosciutto was just like what you get in Italy and I loved the balsamic reduction. Steak was cooked exactly how I asked and it was melt in your mouth good! Loved the blue cheese and bacon potatoes. Share a dessert! After all that food there was no way I could eat one on my own! Will come back. Got here around 5:15pm and was able to get a window seat!

Have been going to Baxters since it opened. Love the ambiance and the food and service. However my biggest gripe is the dessets. Baxters really needs to add more variety to their dessert menu. It is tiresome to only have the choice of ooey gooey butter cake and fudge brownie for dessert. How about adding crème brulee, cheesecake, apple pie, sorbets, ice cream etc.

Obviously the big draw here are the amazing views! I recently stopped here with my boyfriend's mom on our way out of town, and I'm so glad we did. After spending the previous day shopping and drinking, a burger was definitely in order. Damn, that was a good burger. The bun was fantastic (a large Hawaiian roll, pretty much), the meat was flavorful, and the fries - definitely not the run of the mill french fries - they were the lightly battered, ever so slightly fried type of fries - so good! The drink menu looked interesting, with reasonable prices, though I didn't get anything. While at the lake, it's usually a party 24/7, but this is a nice little place to get away from that type of thing and just have a nice meal - without having to watch wasted train-wrecks in their bathing suits go all types of Hoosier on one another (as entertaining as that is).I will definitely be insisting to come here again while in town, it would be a great date spot!

Baxter's was ok. It probably had the shortest wait time on a thursday night so we decided to come here. I ordered the Jerk Chicken. It was basically a piece of grilled chicken with some pineapple on it. It was ok but certainly not jerk chicken. My salad was all right but nothing special. My dad did order the steak and that was pretty good but overall this place is nothing special. There are many other places that I would rather go in the Ozarks. The view here is nice, but that is less important to me when going out to dinner than good food.

Last week I ended up in the Lake of the Ozarks, okay, well, not actually in the lake but all around it and WOW... Love it! I was entreated to a wonderful lunch/dinner at Baxter's. I ordered a hamburger.. and it is the best hamburger I have had in quite a few years. Everything was wonderful even the staff. Can't wait to go back!

We live in the area and enjoy all our meals at Baxter's. Great views of the lake from the outside seating or indoor dining. You have got to try on your next trip to the Lake of the Ozarks !! Fun bar, usually filled with spirited people.

My favorite place at the Lake. I live here. I go lots of places around the area and I am always most happy, most comfortable, and most pleased at Baxter's.

Good food with generous portions and excellent staff. An attempt to make a reservation was difficult. We just walked in and were seated within 5 minutes of when I wanted a reservation and could not get one. Prices are on high end, but you do feel you get your what you paid for.

We gave Baxter's a try on this trip as we read good reviews about it. We were there on a Thursday - and by 6pm we were glad we had reservations. They said the wait without them was 1 1/2 hours. We waited 15 minutes even with a reservation. The service was great - but the food wasn't as great as we expected based on reviews. Three of us had the Cajun Shrimp and Pasta - which was just ok. There wasn't a lot of cajun flavor - and the sausage sure didn't seem like any andouille we'd had before (and we eat a lot of cajun - having been to New Orleans several times and to cajun restaurants in Chicago). My filet mignon, though, was great.

Consistently good food. Great service in bar and restaurant. Bartenders are very attentive. The view is spectacular. We go every time we're at "The Lake.

Remarkable views. In-season, if you're looking for sunset window seating, you may find yourself SOL or waiting a looooong time. The patio is a great option. Cozy bar, friendly bartenders, some nice specialty martinis. The food and service can sometimes be less than consistent - I think it may depend upon how busy they are. The prices seem in line for what you're getting, but are not necessarily large-family friendly. We've been there about 5 times now, most recently last Saturday. We have found we prefer it for a late lunch. Prices are a little better, and quality of service seems higher and more attentive. It sounds kind of gross (fish and cheese?) but the swordfish caprese sandwich is exceptional, you need to try it to believe it. Meat loaf and pork chops are sizable portions and have upscale flavor. Really good sides, including fries, mashed potatoes and veggies which are always perfectly cooked. Their soups are tasty, but a smidge pricy for the portion size. Greenery fans will be pleased, there is a large selection of salads and a Spa Shiki daily special of lighter fare. Try the chopped salad if you want a full-sized meal, it's very good. A miss for me are the crab cakes, which were overprocessed and mushy....but it's hard to get a good crab cake this far from the ocean.

Wow! What a different experience we had! Food was amazing! Great crab cake appetizer, terrific service, and an amazing view! If you get a steak, get the chipotle shrimp add on. So flavorful and tender. A plus!!!! Ask for table 55 or 25 when you go. They are the best views in the house! I think that they said you needed 5 or more in your party to get these tables, but they are spectacular! Everything we had was great from service to view to appetizer, entree, an dessert. Good job guys!

As a local I like to find the best of the best in the lake area. Well, here we have one. The food is top notch and the views are amazing. Be sure and try to get a table outside or at least by the window. It's incredible. I have been here before and had slow service but that is expected in the summer time around here. We love splitting the Cajun chicken pasta. They charge to split a meal but provide an extra salad and 2 full plates of food. It's a great deal on some great food. Expect to spend 15-20 per person at least for dinner. If you are new to the lake area, try this favorite out first.

Love to go to Baxter's when at the lake, however, the smoking is a big change of mind for me. Most local restaurants are putting a ban on smoking on their own. Baxter's really should think about doing this. I'll be back when they quit smoking.

Ate here a few days ago. Salmon was fantastic, the service was a little slow (not surprising since it was a Tuesday in February at the lake. Very impressed with the staff though & the quality of the food.

Baxter's was okay, but not as good as the prices would lead one to believe, based on only one visit. The good: ambience is nice; view of the lake is spectacular; my waitress was first rate; and both our entrees were good. not great, but good. The mediocre: salad was average at best; the bread - same; the soup (cream of tomato) was indistinguishable from some good canned soups I've had. Also could have had a better person running the front desk.

Waste of great lake views and talented chef. Walked in with a party of 7. Told 45 minutes to an hour. 1:45 minutes later asked to talk to upper management. After I asked we were seated immediately. Owner walked over while waiting to settle bar bill, and diidn't say hi or ask how the evening was going. He started arguing telling me I was a liar and we only waited an hour. I didn't say we waited too long or tell the waitress why we wanted to talk to him. He already knew and was quite unfriendly. After being seated and having nearly 2 hours to look at the menu we were ready to order. 30 minutes later we finally got our soups and salads. Bottom line, poorly staffed and piss poor upper management...you couldn't pay me to eat there again. If you have a full weekend to spare for one dinner go for it....

Baxter's has become our favorite restaurant at the Lake. Yes, there is usually a wait, but that's generally an indication of good things to come. The food is consistently good and the wait staff, though not extremely polished, is usually up to par. The Seared Ahi Salad is a favorite of mine while my wife likes the Cedar Plank Salmon which is served over mashed potatoes that are FANTASTIC. Fried calamari is a good appetizer if you can handle the calories. Actually, everything we've tried has been very good to excellent. You'll find one of the great views of the Lake at Baxter's. Outdoor seating on the deck is nice when the weather permits and they also have a "private party" room that will accomodate a small group. Good atmosphere....good food.....good view. Five stars for "as good as it gets" at the Lake.

Baxter's was better when it first opened. Now the wait it way too long, and service is not as quick. Just an okay place for us and can be a tad pricey for the service/food, however it's still better than the Blue Heron at $50 for a piece of fish.
