I got the steak and fried rice meal with a caterpillar sushi roll. The sushi roll was "ok". And the meal was good. I haven't been to many Japanese steakhouses in this area so far so I don't have anything to compare to it other than places I've been in Utah. That being said it didn't rate very high with me and what I'm used to. It's a fun environment for friends and family. If you like amazing sushi this probably isn't the place to come get it. The meal was good overall but the sushi kinda leaves ya disappointed. The steak and fried rice are why I'm leaving 3 stars.

Bathrooms were discussing, wait too long and packed like cattle table seating, location dead strip mall.

Found this place by accident! Had plans for elsewhere but wanted to go to the movies.. soo we gave it a shot We had a Philly roll that was great. the spicy tuna roll had minced( practically pured ) tuna.. taste was good.. texture ..not so much. We had terrific squid salad and split some Ginger Chicken fried rice.. it was very good , too We live south but work north so we will drive if food is worthy.. Fuji was great!--a little noisy-- but service was nice and we enjoyed it . definitely will be returning and bringing friends and family along!

Sit at the grill and ask for Bob, you won't be disappointed! This is the best sushi I've had in Kansas City and better than a lot in Los Angeles. Friendly service. Ask for the jalapeno poppers (with salmon!) and you won't regret it.

Always a stop for us when in town. MUST try their new roll: Snow White! It's my new favorite!

We weren't seated until an hour after our reservation time. But when it was finally time to eat the food was great.

Really good food and friendly service! I had the miso soup, California roll and Alaska roll. Delicious! David, one of the chefs, was very personable and talked to me about the food. He brought me a sample of the jalapeno poppers. Who would have thought there would be poppers at a sushi restaurant??? They were excellent. Half of a slightly hot jalapeno pepper, stuffed with cream cheese, shrimp and salmon with a sweet-hot sauce on the top. Yum! I will make a point to go back there the next time I am in Kansas City. It is a little out of the way, but it's definitely worth the trip.

In the Northland this is where we go. This is the true style as started by the Benihana chain in the 1960's. The chef puts on a show over the teppanyaki (grill). Traditional Japanese did not like this style of cooking but it took of with Americans. I took my full blooded Mother-In-Law there and sure enough she did not like it. Apparently the rice was not sushi rice and the wrap on the tuna rolls was not toasted and was to chewy. As for the rest in our party we love it. The night we were there they had only one sushi chef so service was slow. It was good though, and service is usually better on a night when things are really cooking. Looking around the place needs a good dusting, the fish tank needs cleaning and the fish need more air. I seriously doubt there is one real Japanese working there. You can find a "Top Secret" Recipe for the Benihana Ginger Salad Dressing if you search the net for it. I can't wait to go back!

We love Fuji, it's kind of "our place". The Ginger Chicken Fried Rice is a must. The sushi is ALWAYS fresh and 100% yum-O. And we make sure to order a bottle of Plum wine...love it. We rarely sit at the grill, although when we have it's been great. But Fuji doesn't need to put on a show, their food takes center stage no matter what. Enjoy!

Food is great. Bob is the man!! Always a good experience.

Our family loves Fugi Japanese Steakhouse in Liberty! The food is delicious and we have always received the best service. The chefs go out of their way to have fun with the kids. You can't beat their lunch specials especially after church on Sunday!

Fuji is awesone. We love going to the grill and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the filet mignon - its always juicy, tender, and very flavorful. The wife enjoys the salmon, especially when Bob is the chef. I'm not a big fan of the salmon because they typcially use a fair amount of lemon on it and I personally don't enjoy any citrus flavors with my meal. The sushi is good, but not the best I've had. We'll usually get an order of sushi as an appetizer while we're waiting on our food from the grill. Surprisingly, for as good as Fuji is, there usually is not much of a wait to be seated. Service is always good and we've never had a complaint.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant of all times. I've been to at least 15 other sushi restaurants in Kansas city and area but this one definitely wins. The sushi is excellent, the dressing on their salad is amazing. I can't say one bad thing about it. They have a great lunch happy hour and the prices are unbelievable. The staff is nice to talk to and if you're looking for the best entertainer/chef you should definitely see Bob, he will make your day! Over all, the best sushi, price and staff there is!!

We were there Mother's Day this year.....I was so embarrassed that I took my mother here! We sat at the table--no food or drinks for almost an hour because they said the table had to be full before they would begin. They were down a cook--I understand that but to wait that long with nothing???? salad, soup or a drink???? The food tasted ok...it was not the best I have had there. I will probably not go there again.

Thanks for a FANTASTIC Father's Day! It was our first time in and everyone had a great time. Food was excellent and Bob was AWESOME! He kept our fidgety 3 (almost 4) year old entertained the entire time. We will be back!
(5)Tricia H.
We love this place!!! The fact that we can get sushi and Japanese for the kids is awesome!! BOB is amazing he makes the dinning even more fabulous with his quick wit and humor! The food is very good and they have several different sauces to dip your steak and veggies in! Its clean and spacious we really enjoy going here and get GREAT service everytime! LOVE the sushi~

Bob is the best! Food is good but he really is why you go there. My son had a great time.

This sushi is great, period. The presentation, the taste, everything! The water tastes NASTY though. It's almost not worth drinking. The set up is very cute, and what sushi place would be complete without an aquarium? None! There was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived (Sunday evening) and while we were there, 2 more tables came. This is my first time there, so I don't know how busy they get normally.

This was our first visit to Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and we weren't sure what to expect given the mixed reviews. My husband and I both LOVED it. We were there for "date night" on 12/14/12 and found the food delicious and plentiful (Chicken and KC Strip Teppanyaki; Filet and Scallop Teppanyaki) and the overall experience was excellent. Our teppanyaki chef Bob was friendly, fun, and very skilled at what he does. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will certainly be back.

love this place, our cook was great with keeping kids entertained. you should call ahead if you have a group. the sushi was great along with the grill. love the food. can't wait to visit again very soon

This place deserved my 5 star rating, but it may not do it any good or YOU! The sign explained that though the appreciated everyone's business over the years - they will be closing and unsure if they will reopen. The plaza they are in is filled with closed up store fronts - almost making me not want to go in their place. I was SO happy I did though. The staff - though a bit hard to understand were extremely friendly and courteous to our group! The pricing was amazing - the food was excellent and I felt like shedding a tear knowing that when I came back - they may not be here!
(5)Carol K.
My family was one of the first customers, the owners became friends as we have seen other customers feel the same. We loved the family run business and we NEVER left thinking the food was less than 5 stars! I can't think or say one negative word, and it is with great sorrow that they are closing their doors on August 16th, we are praying that they will reopen somewhere, Fujis' is a landmark in liberty, and will be greatly missed by all in liberty! Love you Bob, Lee Lisa Ginny and David!

We have been going here for years but we're very disappointed last night. Had a reservation for 6 pm and the chef did not start until 715. They added 2 people to our table of 8. I don't think they accounted for the food because the portions were very skimpy. I have never left there hungry but last night was a disgrace. We had to go somewhere else and get something to eat after paying $160. Good thing they are closing - would not go back.

Despite how good the food may be and service in the past. One bad customer service issue is worse then piss poor food. So, I call Wednesday to make reservations the lady proceeded to tell me (even though I didn't ask about wait times or how busy they were on Saturday, I specifically called and said "I need to make a reservation for 4.") She then says "oh no you don't need to, we can definitely get you in without a wait, that isn't a number of people to be worried about.". I said "are you sure?" She said "oh yeah." Here Saturday night is. We walked in and were told it was an hour and a half wait. Wait, wait, wait.... You told me NOT to make a Reservation when I tried and then told me when I get there "too bad, I don't know who would have said that..". That is some really dumpy service. I will never ever go there again.

Love this place! Great food, great service! it is a small place, and they treat you like family. Large servings of food. We always have some to take home. One of my families favorite spots!

Figured we'd give this place a shot since it was the only Japanese steakhouse in the area that didn't seem to be booked full on a Saturday night. Called at 6pm and was able to get a reservation for 6 of us for 7pm. Ok, easy enough. Gathered the family together and we walked in at 655pm. The host decided to sit two groups that walked in after us, then proceed to tell us that he may have underestimated times when we called in. Told us it would be a bit and then offered to get us drinks while we waited and said he would be right back. 15 minutes later my 6 year old son walked up to him and asked where our drinks were. Oh yeah he said. So he proceeds to take our drink order and then walks off. About 5 minutes later he comes back with a piece of paper to confirm our drink order and then proceeds to get our drinks. We now have our drinks and about 30 min has gone by when we're finally seated. Our orders are promptly taken and the service begins. First soup, then salad, and then...A 25 min wait. Yep that's right 25 min before the chef ever comes over and starts cooking. Here I am sitting with two kids under the age of 7 and they are getting hungry, asking where the food is, etc. So the chef shows up, confirms our order and then does his thing. He was fun and goofy as one typically expects with these establishments. He goofed a few attempts on things but other than that made it through his service. Oh yeah, he forgot my rice order though, which I had to ask for after he was done cooking. The food was just mediocre and the $178 bill I received to feed 2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 2 children wasn't even close to being worth it. Sure the little ones had some fun but there isn't a chance we will ever be going back to Fuji, even if it is close and easy to get into. I would recommend venturing to one of the many other great Japanese steak houses in the metro, before ever giving this place your business. I can see why it was so easy to get into on a Saturday night.

The restaurant's last day is August 16, 2015. Please give it a try before then.

After reading several good reviews about Fuji we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately it did not live up to its reputation. We ordered the White Tiger, Las Vegas and Wammy rolls. The rolls were poorly put together and fell apart as we ate them. The flavor was also off. After only a few pieces I threw in the towel and could not choke another down. Sorry Fuji.... this was our first and last visit.

Well, it's the last store front that remains open in a strip mall scheduled for closure. That said, if you are in your shorts and a T-shirt-maybe even still a bit damp from the waterpark-and need a place to have hibachi steak, not sure you could find better. Order the filet mignon - cooked to perfection. Happy we found it and the young'uns will be sorry to see it go. Are the bathrooms perfect? Far from it. But for what it is, the restaurant does a good job. Friendly folks.

We love Fuji! It's the only Japanese steakhouse that we go to. Great for both the show and the food. Bob is fantastic! The sushi is fantastic as well!! We have been going here for years so will definitely return!

I've been sushi deprived since my local favorite closed. I have been getting desperate, so when I realized I'd be in my friend's backyard in Liberty and near a sushi place she liked, we made a dinner date. The atmosphere of the place is pretty standard. Hibachi tables on one side and booths and tables on the other. It was clean. Our waitress was friendly and nice, and pretty efficient. I had the crunchy roll and Futomaki which were excellent and really hit the spot. My friend also had a crunchy roll and the crab salad. She let me try that and it was very tasty. BF tried the volcano roll, a warm one, and it too was yummy. They also enjoyed some masago rolls. Good to know that if you're in the North you can get good sushi to still your cravings.

Great place for lunch or dinner. Bob is hilarious, great cook. He also makes all the sauces in house.

Found this gem on Yelp. Kids loved it. Had a ball! Teppanyaki was outstanding. 5 stars all the way.
