Bland & over priced food. Friends had never been there so they insisted on eating here. Portions are small and totally with out flavor. I had the Special Chicken & Dumplings, mostly thick sauce, strings of chicken and heavy dumplings. Friends had the special small salad (really really small) 1/2 sandwisch & small piece of pie. So not worth the $13.95. Generally very disappointing. It's just a name destination, peak inside then find another place to eat.

Good food and service! The desserts are amazing! I felt like I was in a non-chain, cracker barrel. It was homemade food with an old style feel!

Home cooking at its finest. Desserts on steroids ~ most delicious! Great place for family gatherings, as they always take good care of a large group, very patient and accurate.

There is no place to review just the Blue Owl sweet shop, so I'm doing it here because they have the best ice cream I have ever had! They have a white chocolate raspberry flavor that is to die for. I'm not a huge fan of their restaurant, but going to the sweet shop is a must. They give you huge scoops of ice cream in a glass bowl. Even just one or two scoops is plenty for two people to share. Great idea for a date. There all kinds of neat, unique shops to look around at.

First of all make a reservation. We had to wait nearly 3 hours before we could be seated. The food was good but not worth the wait at all. I got the fried chicken, mashed potatos, mac n cheese and strawberry salad. The salad was amazing! Probably my favorite part of the meal. The chicken was good but I wish you had the choice on what you got (ie I would get two legs vs one leg & a breast). I really enjoyed it but my stomach didnt like the grease (not their fault). The mac n cheese would have been better but it was a little on the cold side. My fiance got the grilled turkey club, curly fries and german potatoes. He hated the potatoes but admitted that they are mostly hit and miss anywhere you go. He said the fries were good but could have been cooked longer. He rated them a 2 out of 5 but the staff was kind and our waitress was really attentive. I did hear a different waitress complaining about her tips which is a little off putting. I regret not saving enough room for their dessert.

It was so noisy I could not enjoy conversation with parent. Food was average . Carmel pecan topping was more flavorful than rest of Apple pie. Tasted like they left something out. Like sugar. Only could taste cinnamon.

Wanted badly to order 2 pies but changed my mind because of the $84 shipping price to california , I order a lot of food products yearly and this shipping price is crazy , i spent 31 years in the shipping industry so i know a little bit about shipping costs , their shipping costs were a few cents more than the 2 pies cost so go figure

Sometimes I hear rave reviews of a place too far in advance of eating there. Usually I'm disappointed on my going there. That's what happened with The Blue Owl. It's a long wait, or planning in advance in the case of reservations, for average/good food and nice pastries. But you'll be waiting 10 minutes even ordering pastries from the bakery. Just a warning. The atmosphere is country (down to the waitresses in frocks), and they score some points with me in that department, but if you want food that's as good and probably better without the wait, try the Dough Depot down the street.

Nice country charm restaurant. Very nice story of how the place got started printed on the back of the menu. Our table had the Famous White Chili, not too much to brag about, Mediterranean Chicken Sandwich, served on a Bagel, quite greasy and the last was the Rueben Sandwich...chosen only because it came with fries, all the other sandwiches only came with salad, chips or cole slaw. If you wanted to supstitue fries it was an extra $2.95 and the sandwiches were already $8.95- $9.95! Quite pricey. We should have had one of the desserts, they did look wonderful just wasn't in the mood. Will be going back to this area of town soon but will try another, not worth another trip for me. Heard the Fried Chicken is supposed to be great but it was also $12.95, hope so at a plate for that price.

I've have eaten here several times over the years. Lunch, dessert, tax and tip add up so it's not really a cheap date for lunch. The food is good..however, I think their desserts are over-rated. My friends and I have found the fruit pies to be good...but I have ALWAYS been disappointed by their various chocolate pies. I'm beginning to wonder if they actually make them. (Maybe they used to and don't anymore?) I've had better chocolate desserts from Schnucks or Applebee's. Kimmswick is a fun town to visit a couple of times of year and this is basically the only lunch game in town.

I didn't have a chance to try the actual food, so this review is only based on the dessert. Came here during the Strawberry Festival and had the Strawberry Lover's pie. It is so creamy, it melts in your mouth. The service is great as well. All the waitresses dress in aprons which really fits with the old town feel. Excellent desserts and excellent service, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stop by and grab a snack.

We booked the special Valentines dinner with reservations at 7 pm, we were packed like sardines waiting to be called. We were seated close to our scheduled time in an enclosed patio area with plastic furniture. After we received our drinks, we were told that one of the choices, the beef tenderloin was already sold out. At 7 pm? So one alternative was chicken for $35? I don't think so. I was so disappointed, that I won't go back; what a disaster!

The wife and I stopped in for lunch the other day. There is nothing trendy about this place. The waitresses wear hokey retro "country" blue dresses that scream "80's and make me feel a little embarrassed to be there. Lots of ladies dragging their friends and husbands here on weekends, so expect a bit of a wait. We asked for an inside table, so we were a little dismayed when they promptly trotted us outside. Turns out it wasn't too bad in the shade, so we accepted our fate. After 10 minutes, a server finally stopped by and said it would be a few minutes before she could help us. I saw that a ton of food had come out all at once...not her fault. No big deal. A lady sat right beside us outside the patio and had a smoke. We were about 30 seconds from asking her to move when she got up and left. Do you sense a trend developing? We ordered two sandwiches, one with chips and one with a salad. They both came out with chips. Hmmmpf. The waitress brought us a salad as soon as we said something, so no harm done. Good news: After that, our patience was not tried again. Most importantly, all the food was very good. We shared the two sandwiches - one the Mediterranean Chicken and the other a Southern Roast Beef sandwich. The roast beef was the standout here - a huge pile of extremely tender and juicy sliced roast. Wonderful. The salad had homemade ranch dressing that was really good as well We decided to splurge for dessert and try one of those huge apple pies covered with caramel as seen on the menu. Turns out it looks a lot better than it tastes. I think it might have had rum in it, which for me is not a bonus. Anyway, we'll never get it again. Not awful, but not great. The desserts here all look so good, it's kind of sad when you get one that's only fair. I'm sure we'll be back. Our breakfast on a previous visit was really good, too. More likely the wife will be back with her mom. the overall 3 and 1/2 stars is probably about right.

I am in love.....the building is adorable....the food was marvelous and so many choices....the portions are HUGE........could have shared with three people...... I had the build your own trio...so i had cobb salad, chessy brocolli soup, and of course the tropical cream pie.....i was stuffed.....everything was delish....I wish the tropical pie would have had more of a pinneapple flavor but it was heavy on banana which is great just not what I was expecting.......i sat on the wonderful patio porch and enjoyed the fabulous afternoon and fall air........My friend had the tropical salad and I snagged some of it---delish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a turkey sandwich and the same pie......we were happy ladies when we left...will go here again and again and again........

What a great place and less than a 30-minute drive from the city! (I see someone posted about the "hokey" decor; however, it is exactly what you'd expect for a little country restaurant. Kimmswick is NOT New York, or Chicago, or even St. Louis. It's KIMMSWICK, just outside Imperial, so don't expect fru-fru. The decor is Americana, the servers wear long granny aprons and the seating on our side of the restaurant were those plastic yard tables and chairs. IT'S THE COUNTRY!! I didn't go expecting anything less and the food was my focus, so I kept it moving! I've been wanting to try this place for a while - just to SEE that mile-high apple pie! It is just as huge in person as it is on TV. We made reservations (recommended) and were seated immediately. I was surprised at how extensive the menu is, without being TOO overwhelming. Several salad, soup and sandwich choices, as well as quiches, other daily specials (today's was chicken and dumplings, pan fried tilapia, among others). The chicken and dumplings tasted like they were mad in MY kitchen. The pan fried tilapia was HUGE, cooked perfectly, flaky on the inside and just crispy enough on the outside. The crust had a slight lemony taste that was just enough. For sides, we chose artichoke-spinach and the cheesy hashbrown casserole. I wish the bowls they serve them both in were - we couldn't get enough!! For dessert, I opted for the "Death by Chocolate Cake" Moist chocolate brownie covered in Khalua, fudge, whipped cream and HEATH bar crumbles. Heaven on a plate! Our server was pleasant, speedy and knowledgeable about the menu items! I think the specials were $13.99, so to me that's inexpensive, so don' fault me if I don't give them two $$. (the only downside was as we were waiting for our receipt, I noticed a server/hostess -not ours, thankfully - digging in her nose with a tissue, then changed hands and used the back of her fingers!! The place was a zoo by then, otherwise I would have reported her! Can't wait to go back!!! Hope we don't get the booger-picker!!!:-//

I had tropical chicken salad. That had a lot variety of fruit, like blueberry, pineapple, kiwi, oranges, might be a bit of strawberry too. And my mother in law had strawberry salad that great ! Than for main menu i had quienche that was too rich for me :P also mini turkey croissant. I should get the dessert rather than this, but my son ate it for me :P The food was okay. the chocolate silk mouse pie was terrific ^,^ We spend about 150 for 5 people.

Mmmm Pie. We had a birthday party in Arnold that day, and I begged to go to the Blue Owl beforehand. Because, they NEVER have food at birthday parties, right?? I always tell my husband it's where Paula Deen's boys went! He doesn't care. I've been here a few times, and it's super good. We learned from our first visit that you can do call ahead seating. So this time, we called en route so we didn't have to wait at least 45 mins. And there is ALWAYS a wait, so praise the lord for smart phones and internet access. We get there and there was still a 5 minute wait, but there was quite a line of people waiting. We get in, and they have a special for $12.99, you get a soup or salad, a 1/2 order of an entree and dessert. Um, sign me up! So, I had the 1/2 Cobb Salad- there was nothing half about it. It was I was at Bread Co, this would be a full size salad. Next - the Quiche Lorraine. I'm a sucker for a good quiche. It was A+ yummy. Then next...the pie. Ooh pie, sweet glorious pie. Our waitress rattled off at least 20+ pies as options. I went with the French Silk and hubs went with the Mile High Apple Pie. I couldn't finish it all. There was so much food on that table, I was about to pop! Sadly, we had no place to store leftovers so I couldn't take the rest of the pie home with me. If you've not been here, you need to go at least once. I don't think I would go all the time, but when I get a hankering for pie...I'm so there!

What's not to love about The Blue Owl? Just the thought of this place warms my heart. I have been coming here since I was a small child, and it always brings back great memories. First things first: Go look at the desserts before you sit down. This is the most important part. If you're not going to leave room for dessert at The Blue Owl, you should've just not even come at all. This is not to say that their non-dessert options aren't good, because they are very good. But let's get real. At The Blue Owl, dessert is the most important meal of the day. The star of the show is the humongous Levee-High Apple Pie. And just to clarify, this is not a mile-high apple pie. It's a levee. This is flood country, folks. There is a multitude of other desserts to choose from if apple pie isn't your style. I am a huge fan of their cheesecakes, especially the german chocolate cheesecake. Heavenly! Their soups, quiches, sandwiches and salads are also excellent. The atmosphere is homey, comfortable and laid-back. Service is always friendly. The Blue Owl truly is a gem and everyone ought to go there at least once!

After running the Sandmine Challenge in Crystal City (running through caves -- how cool is that?), we stopped in Kimmswick on our way back to the Lou. At the suggestion of a co-worker, we visited Blue Owl. We had a 20 min wait at 1pm on Sat. Three of us ordered the "you pick three" option. I went with a salad (chopped romaine but good toppings), turkey melt (not must substance on a croissant -- wouldn't order it again), and butterscotch pecan pie (REALLY sweet and delicious). The other two ordered the mile high pie but they were out (order early and have them set aside your piece). He ended up with the caramel apple pie which was also good and very caramel-ly. My husband got the key lime pie which he enjoyed. Our fourth member ordered the roast beef au jus sandwich and thought it was good. The food was boring but the desserts were good and the country ambiance is a nice diversion from the St. Louis scene.

I have been a fan of this establishment since i moved out to where i live now which has been several years. Why? Well, for one thing my sweet tooth is never ending and their delicious pies, cakes and cookies are over the top! Levee High Apple Pie, French silk, German chocolate oh my! Yes, both Breakfast and lunch have delicious menu choices and you can't go wrong with anything here. I do have one thing that i always have to have regardless. White Chilli, this folks is one of the most delicious things they have! You simply have to have some! One of the best time to come out there (probably have a hard time getting into the building however) is during apple butter festival! They have a hugh tent outside their building and they have samples of alot of the sweets, plus other things to nibble on!

The chicken potpie was pretty good, but not outstanding. It was barely warm and the mashed potatoes were so cold the gravy was like glue. The pie was good Service was not slow, so I'm confused by the cold food. Food is overpriced. $23.00 before tip!

Stopped in Kimmswick on the way home from Ste. Genevieve to pick up a pie. $24 with the tax! I thought, "this must be great." Well, I was disappointed. Bland crust, and the bottom layer wasn't cooked through. Very tasty filling, though. I got strawberry-rhubarb and the filling was sort of pureed; it didn't have the chunks of rhubarb you usually see. I like it either way. In the nearly 2 years I have lived in the St. Louis area, I have found Eckert's in Belleville to have the best pies, and their most expensive ones are around $14. They have become the ones I compare others to.

The Chicken and dumplins, the wedding soup and white chilli are my faves. This time of year get the strawberry salad. it's made fresh and doesnt taste like the chains out there. The massive dessert display shows off some of their best work. I have never been disappointed by the blue owl and i usually go back at least 1 x a season. Be prepared to wait in line as others have stated.

Such a disappointment. If you happen to be in Kimmswick, I don't know that you'll find better food anywhere else in town, but I definitely wouldn't recommend making a special trip. The wait time is ridiculously long. The decor is hokey. I ordered a quiche, that was watery and over salted. We had to send a cup of soup back (chicken cheese tortellini- the soup of the day) because it was disgusting. Dessert was fair. We ordered pie all around and everyone agreed the crust left a lot to be desired. It is dense and chewy- not flaky, as we would have preferred. The chocolate chip pecan pie filling had good flavor, the mile high caramel apple pie (a signature dish) did not.

After years of hearing how great the breakfast at the Blue Owl is, I finally dragged myself and Faithful Companion out of bed early enough on a Saturday morning (for some unknown, terrible reason the BO seems to have a bias against late evening tipplers, only serving the most important meal of the day from10-11:30 a.m.) to make the half hour jaunt from South City to Kimmswick. We were delayed by the fact that some friends of ours called needing a last minute witness to meet them at the bank for the signing of marriage license paperwork in front of a notary public, so they could get gay married in Iowa next weekend. Driving into town, the fall colors were beautiful and the old river town itself was quaint and interesting looking; lots of ancient cabins and curiosities. We parked in the amply large lot across the street from the restaurant, went inside and were quickly sat. The restaurant interior was shabby country, dark and worn. On our way out, we did note that there was a large atrium-like dining area, we wished we'd dined in. The service was brusquely friendly, if not terribly quick. The coffee was of average restaurant quality, not any of that serious gourmet shit enjoyed by Jules and Vincent in Jimmy's kitchen, but good enough for Bonnie and us. FC ordered the namesake BO Breakfast, while I opted for the Country Breakfast. She was served scrambled eggs, bacon and a biscuit, while I received scrambled eggs, a large slice of ham, home fries and a biscuit, too. We also ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy. The eggs were pretty damn tasty. FC's bacon was thick cut, smokey and of good quality. My ham, sadly, was not bone-in as I'd assumed it would be and a bit bland, but ok. FC and I agreed that she should've ordered a side of the seriously delicious home fries. The biscuits? Where to begin? I remember southern guys with whom I served in the military, regarded the northern version of the biscuit with the same disdain a rabbi would have for a pork steak. They were dismayed by what I now realize was a tough, tasteless and completely inferior take on their mamma's fare. I'm pretty sure that the BO biscuits I had this morning were far closer to what their Dixie hearts were desiring. They were tall, large and fluffy; almost sweet, they literally melted in your mouth. BO's sausage gravy was creamy, savory and studded with succulent, obviously fresh, pork sausage. I will be returning for the B & G, alone. One quibble: we were provided with single serving packaged jelly and margarine. Save that crap for prison inmates and starving North Koreans. I was able to get butter packets as a substitute, but we were stuck with the jelly for the excellent biscuits served with our breakfast plates. How about some whipped butter, maybe with some local honey blended in? And some much higher quality preserves, as well? As I said, I'll return to the BO, if only for the B & G, but also for the overall excellent breakfast fare, served in large portions and more than reasonably priced. FC and I enjoyed an after-breakfast walkabout, taking in the late 18th century settlement of Kimmswick's historical and retail attractions. It was nice to get out of the city and into a different, slower world and enjoy great food, with only a thirty minute drive.

"I think we ordered too much," I quickly stated after trying to devour a "full order" of buttermilk pancakes (a three plate-size stack) with warmed maple syrup, a side order of breakfast potatoes, and a humongous biscuit with apple butter; but I feel like I fought a good fight...yet lost. We went to the Apple Butter Festival this Halloween Sunday and needed a hearty breakfast close to the festivities. Once we entered Blue Owl (around 9:30am), we were immediately seated and our coffee-feigning selves were quickly satisfied by our blue-aproned waitress who called us "honey." the breakfast was limited to four main entrees, but what they do have, they do very very well. I'm a fan of the country-feel establishment, wait staff, and food. Blue Owl, you satisfied the energy supply needed to walk the Festival!

Sunday lunch was very good. It is very basic food, which I enjoy. Our group tried their fried chicken, roast beef, country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy, as well as the chicken salad. These items were freshly prepared and were very good. The servings were more than enough. The corn as a side dish was only OK. It was a little bland. The starter spinach salad was quite good. After eating the main meal, I was too full to enjoy the dessert as much as I might have. The apple pie filling was OK, but the crust was superb! Our server was attentive and helpful. The setting was very pleasant and relaxing.

Few restaurants in the St. Louis area are as overrated as the Blue Owl. Aside from the interesting spectacle of seeing the levee-high apple pie, there's not much special to be found at this tourist-oriented restaurant in tourist-oriented Kimmswick. The wait to get in was long. Very long. So long we were ready to put in our order when we sat down long. And yet the wait for the food was long as well. Perhaps we went on a busy day (it was a Sunday afternoon), but it didn't seem like anyone was in a hurry to keep things moving. The food was what I'd call "Cracker Barrel" fare -- basic stuff, nothing special, accompanied by a salad with an interesting (but unremarkable) house dressing. Of course, dessert was the main reason we were there, and I didn't have a problem with my Snickers pie. It was fine. I just wonder if I might have enjoyed the place more if I'd skipped the meal and just had dessert. What can I say? The target market for this place is twice my age; people who like folksy country restaurants and who can't really taste what they're eating anyway. I thought Cracker Barrel had that niche market captured, but I guess every now and then, everyone needs some variety.

The Blue Owl is a great dining establishment. Excellent bakery selection, with so many wonderful home made goodies. Great creativity too! It has wonderful country charm, with a festive seasonal atmosphere. Nice patio with great bird watching with the seasons. The food can be a little on the pricey side; but the portions are big. This is a special celebration occasion restaurant and extra special for everyday but it is definitely worth driving out of your way to enjoy, then make a day of going into all the shops in Kimmswick. This place will be appreciated by anybody who loves independent shops and restaurants in a charming, small town atmosphere , where character & creativity is nurtured. Haven't you had your fill of corporate chain everything across the nation? Where nothing is special & everything is predictable and status quo.

I'm not a regular at the Blue Owl. This countrified gem is located in the historic district of Kimmswick, Missouri and is generally filled with tour busloads of seniors and Red Hat Ladies. I'm not quite there, yet. But, any time I need to please older relatives with a pick that they will enjoy, I consider The Blue Owl and it never fails. Yesterday, I decided to take the kiddos on this VERY short drive south of St. Louis for lunch and a shop for Halloween decorations. The Blue Owl Hostess greeted us right away and told us it would be a 15 minute wait. We put our name on the list and went for a walk on the cute streets of Kimmswick. Kimmswick has clearly been impacted by the economic crisis as some of the cute shops have closed. Upon arriving back at the Blue Owl, we were seated immediately, as promised. Once seated, the three of us split two entrees that came with salads, sides, and homemade rolls. It was plenty. The entree's (chicken fried steak and fried chicken ) cost $13.95 ea., which was a little pricey for lunch (especially fried food). But, it was good. The salad was extra yummy. We split one slice of German chocolate cake that had cool whip on top. We were taken back by the cool whip, but the pie was VERY good and only $5 for a slice, which was reasonable for the size and caliber of the desserts served. They offered to cut the pie three ways for us. It was VERY rich, yummy and more than enough for three to share. This isn't my favorite type of food but, I feel that they are good at what they do. The Blue Owl is worth a visit. The dessert selection is massive, the staff is friendly and the service is sharp. If you have a group of 6 or more, call ahead for a reservation.

The perfect place for ladies who lunch, and for groups who lunch. We were a table of 10 and our waitress handled us with ease. The food was nice enough, all 10 of us enjoyed it. The list of pies was overwhelming. I chose coconut custard, which came with a meringue on top. The pie crust was a surprise: so tough you would need a steak knife to cut it. The Blue Owl is good for people who are looking for a day trip and want a lunch that may not knock your socks off, but will please most people.

About a month ago, a friend and I decided to visit the Blue Owl on a Friday afternoon, around 11;30, or so. I hadn't been, and I'd heard so many good things about it, I figured I owed it to myself to give it a shot. After about a half hour wait (seems there's always a line for lunch), we were finally seated at our table. The surroundings were nice enough. The insides are reminiscent of a log cabin, or small country home, but clean, and comfortable. In a few moments we were greeted by our very busy waitress (the restaurant was packed and she was a bit overwhelmed, but nice enough), and I ordered the turkey and cheese on a croissant with a side of fries. My friend ordered the Cobb Salad. About 15 minutes or so later, our food arrived, hot and fresh. The sandwich and fries were ok, nothing over the top, but more like something my Grams would make for me in her kitchen, very basic, no frills. My friend's salad looked very good. I didn't try it, but it was large, and topped with lots of goodies that make a Cobb salad what it is. When asked if she liked it, she agreed, and said everything was good, minus the blue cheese. This is a personal preference of course, but if you aren't a blue cheese fan, and you want the Cobb salad, you might want to order it without. For dessert we shared a piece of pumpkin pie with a layer of cream cheese. I'm not sure what it was called, but it had a special name. On top was cool whip topping, rather than real whipped cream, and admittedly I was disappointed by that. People rave about the Blue Owl's desserts for miles around, and if a dessert is being raved about, in my opinion it shouldn't be topped with Cool Whip. Real whipped cream is the key to taking an ordinary dessert to an extraordinary level. I can make a pie with Cool Whip at home, and pay a lot less for it. Aside from the Cool Whip topping on the pie, the pie itself wasn't my favorite. It was a little too spicy to be a pumpkin pie, but the crust was very good. I'm particular about crusts, and this one was flaky, and perfectly cooked. I give the Blue Owl points for that. At the same time though, this particular pie, just didn't impress. I've had better pie. Some things to note about the Blow Owl: Lots of groups there during the day, from the "Red Hat Ladies" to teens on field trips with their teachers and their classmates, as well as lots of girlfriends on a girl's day out, and couples, too. Lunch is the busiest time. I'd say anywhere from 11:00 to 1:30 you're going to have at least a half hour wait, if not longer. To avoid the crowds, dine a bit later in the day. I won't go back to the Blue Owl, unless someone I'm with wants to go. Then, I wouldn't be totally against it. I just wouldn't go there of my own choosing. It was good, but nothing I'm really wanting to experience again.

Stopped in for dessert on the suggestion of several people. It was excellent. Even the food the other patrons smelled and looked great. The only downside was the price. Almost $40 for a family of four just for 2 slices of cheesecake and 2 slices of pie. Don't get me wrong, it was great, just more than I expected from a place in a tiny town. Next time I would like to try the entrees.

The roast beef was plentiful but a bit bland. The mash potatoes with brown gravy was a highlight in the dish. However the best part of the meal was dessert. The caramel chocolate cheesecake was FANTASTIC. The Blue Owl is rightfully famous for their incredible desserts !

Blue Owl gets rave reviews, but I am not certain why. I had a great time with my mother while I was there, do not get me wrong. However when it comes down to price and service stay in Saint Louis. I asked the waitress her preference of soup, and she replied she was not to say her preference since all tastes are different. I was quite flabbergasted as I am in the food and beverage business. Giving an opinion is fine or at least tell me which is more popular. She was also not familiar with the specials of the day. I decided on the white chicken chili which was less than fair. I also had the spinach and feta quiche which was fantastic! The portion was large. This was also served with a side salad that resembled something you would get at any local chain restaurant. The poppy seed dressing I ordered was delightful. I took home a mini german chocolate cake. Despite Blue Owl's reputation for their desserts, I was less than impressed. The icing was not overly sweet, but the cake was dry and clearly past its prime. I should have gone to Dierbergs. My overall opinion (which I will give since no one told me not to do so): Wait until gas prices go down before you venture to Kimmswick.

Oh who cares about the antique shopping and the kitchy little craft stores that line Kimmswick's streets...The Blue Owl is the only real reason to make this hike down I-55. I am obsessed with this apple pie. Maybe it's just the display, but I swear this apple pie is totally delectable. Generally, I hate apple pie, it have something against congealed fruit. Somehow, The Blue Owl has done it right though! The fruit still tastes fresh and cinnamony. It's nothing short of delicious. Oh, and did I mention it's HUGE. I mean MASSIVE! I mean, GARGANTUAN! It's a "levee high pie," just like you see in those cheesy old black and white TV shows placed in the country. (Think a more obese Mayberry). The deserts may be delicious, but they have a full menu too. Tons of salads and sandwiches fill the menu. The tomato bisque soup is my favorite with a grilled cheese sandwich. It will keep you full for the duration of your day. Generally, any kind of breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner fare you could think of....and it's COMFORT food, the best kind of food in my chubby opinion. The place is always packed and they don't take reservations so be ready to wait....you can always shop around in the little stores while you wait, or just chill out and enjoy the day in this small town.

You come here for breakfast or dinner, because they close this place down at three. If you're lingering around that time, the sweet ladies in blue bonnets will start giving you funny glances as they walk by your table. Some of the rood is really good. Try the chicken fried steak, tomato bisque soup, fiesta meatloaf. I've never actually ordered off the menu, as there are several delicious-sounding specials on the board every day. The menu items are basic sandwich and salad fare, though my Grandmother orders the Strawberry Salad every time. After dinner, you should try a piece of pie. They're never as good as I hope they will be, but I still try a different one every time. I've had the "Levee-high Apple Pie", which is OK (looks amazing, though!). The Blackberry was kind of dissapointing (not very flavorful), and tonight I bought a mini peach to go. I hope it's better than the others. Actually, the strawberry rhubarb was very good, but unfortunately I only got to try a small fork-full. Overall, a friendly atmosphere, good servers with personality, tasty country-style food, and decent pie.

Blue Owl, I want to hate you. I do. I cannot stand country down home kitsch. You stand for everything I hate.I wish you wouldnt put that dang whipped cream in excess on everything. I wish your parking was better. Your service isn't the best. You really only seem to do quiche, salad, and soups. I remember that you did white chicken chili way before anyone else did it. Others may have improved upon it since but I remember you as being the first. Today when I picked up a snickers pie for my husband's birthday I dreaded meeting again. Last year's visit during the apple butter festival was a mistake I didn't want to repeat. But as I stood staring at your big dessert case with all the seemingly happy grandmas I saw one of your waitresses walk by with a glass of wine... I was reminded that I find you delightful. I accept you for what you are: a place where ladies come from all around to lunch, sit outside and eat desserts (and apparantly drink wine). Now, that is living!

On our way back from a couple of wineries in Ste. Genevieve, I dragged my carload of family to the Blue Owl. We'd never been before, and we wanted pie. First off, I was surprised that they close at 5pm on a Saturday night. For such a tourist trap, I'd think they'd be open until 8 or so. The hostess was nice enough to let us peruse the bakery counter and get some stuff to go. We unloaded our wallets and brought a selection of baked goods home to sample. My chocolate caramel cheesecake was pretty good, and the blackberry pie just okay. Crust should stand out on a homemade pie, but this one didn't. The carrot cake was good (although I prefer a "chunky" cake with raisins and walnuts, which this one didn't have--just shredded carrot) but the cream cheese frosting tasted more like shortening than cream cheese. The portions are large to match their prices. Would I go back? Probably not. The reviews aren't glowing, and I can get decent bakery treats elsewhere close to home.

some interesting local color here... ...about 30 miles from STL, on I-55 sounth...a bustling restaurant & bakery settled in the midst of historic kimmswick boutiques & shops so you can browse for gifts before and/or after breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dessert & coffee. i had lunch there, with friends, earlier this week. had to wait for a table for about 20 min. i got a cobb salad with poppyseed (house) dressing, decaf, a cup of potato-cheese-broccoli soup, and hawaiian coconut cream pie for desset. i wanted key lime, but alas! so did a lot of other people that day....it was GONE! now then....the food was good, but not spectacular. the pie was good - and the slice cut large.... the fare is salads, soups, sandwiches, some daily specials. they also have a loaded baked potato if you're into a high-carb diet...it would put me to sleep for the afternoon if i ate one at lunch. ...here's what i figure - there are soooooo many bakery items to choose from (2 pages of them on the menu) that i think that is the big attraction here....not to mention the near-by shopping. blue owl has pastries, cakes, cookies, specialty cakes, cheesecakes, pies, death-by-chocolate, & a few sugar-free desserts. you can take some home, but be there early unless you're ready to take second choices.... it's very noisy - we could not hear each other until it began to clear out. we got there around 12:30 so at the height of lunch hour. i could've done with just the pie & coffee. i brought 1/2 the salad home, it was too large for me to eat in one sitting. Directions: I-55 south from STL to Imperial-Main St. Exit #186. East to Highway 61-67, south to highway K Hours: Tuesday - Friday 10am to 3pm; Saturday & Sunday - 10am to 5pm. (closed mondays)

Famous enough to be featured on the Food Network. And for a good reason. My favorite is the "mile high" apple pie with caramel. Wow, my mouth is watering thinking about it.

It was good. Great town. Place has a nice charm to it. As for the food it was just ok nothing special. Although I will say pecan pie was wayyyyyyyyy better than the apple pie. Give it a try I would say.

nice big restaurant that was packed even at 2pm. service was a bit slow and we had to order our pies right away, but when it came time to bring them out the waitress asked us what we ordered again. so much for having it ready. it was also nearly impossible to get a drink refill, good thing they have a carafe of water on the table. aside from that the food was good. we got the trio special, i had the strawberry salad, the mini croissant and the raspberry cream pie. my friend got the caramel apple pie and it was gigantic. just about the only place to eat in kimmswick but is a must see tourist place.

I want to live here. The Blue Owl is known for their desserts, and rightly so. They are decadent and dense and totally worth $5-6 a slice. We had an early lunch there this weekend, I had the fried chicken, excellent, some better than expected glazed carrots, a side salad, and the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. Probably. My memory sucks. Breakfast looked good, too. Marcia was the friendliest server I've ever had. The bathrooms smelled amazing. I normally hold my nose in any public bathroom but I sure am glad I took a whif, it smells like someone's churning apples in there, not a metaphor. Plus, Kimmswick is charming as shit.

The Blue Owl had some of the best home style food I've ever had. Even the salad, a strawberry salad, was very tasty. The roast beef was tender, and the strawberry cake was delicious. Will be back for sure!

This little old town favorite is great! I have ate here a few times and every time has been nothing short of delicious food! Their trio meal you can order (half sandwich, salad, soup, dessert), pick the three wish to have...is filling and oh so yummy! Can't beat their fresh homemade pies either! Fair prices and they usually have coupons on living social or amazon local too!

After doing the Sandmine Challenge with my-co-workers, we were all insatiably hungry. We did some research in our area and stumbled upon this restaurant. Oh my goodness, their baked goods case could send anyone into sugar shock. Everything looked delicious! I ended up ordering the strawberry salad with an amazing poppy seed dressing and soup. The portions are perfect. I was full, but not overbearingly so after the meal. I would very much like to find myself hungry in Kimmswick again.
Pie. Get pie. Most definitely. On the other hand my normal staple meal of half tropical fruit salad and half soup lost a star after the past few visits. It doesn't seem as fresh as it used too. I feel the quality has slipped a bit. It's still a wonderful place to go and visit with a friend and eat and incredible slice of mile high apple pie!!! Maybe next time I'll try something warm and cooked fresh vs. a prepared salad/sandwich. But there still will be PIE!

Thank God we thought to call ahead, there was a 35 minute wait when we called! Thankfully we were able to do call ahead seating. The place was packed when we arrived which was about 2:30pm on a Sunday. We figured it would of slowed down by then but it was still hustling. The food was alright. Definitely a southern home cooked food kind of place. They have tons of deserts. We tried some of their famous pies but weren't overly impressed. The peach pie had some kind of gel substance inside it and didn't really taste like peaches. The cherry pie was ok. My grandfather, however, loved all the deserts we tried. The service was very slow, and our poor server seemed quite frazzled trying to keep up. We also explored the shops around the town which were neat and had lots of unique trinkets. If you're looking for any of the birthday cake statues for St Louis's 250th, there is one here!

Great place to go with the girls and have a great meal and funny. The food is great and the stuff friendly. Pies are a must if you can save some room for it. You will never go away hungry from here. If you have to take some home and eat the pie!!

I'm adding another star after my last review because the server I had this time redeemed this place! The spinach artichoke quiche was as wonderful as it was the first time I went! I tried the white chicken chili this time and it was wonderful! My mom had the homemade chicken and dumplings (Sunday special).. I tried them and they were amazing! We had my young cousin with me this time and I love that they offer kids size portions of the daily special. This place truly is family oriented! I wish I would've had room for dessert!

They do what they do, very well. I have been here for a ladies lunch for two up to a private Baby Shower for thirty. The food is always consistently good. Dessert's make your mouth water. Plan your meal around your dessert. Personal Favorites: Strawberry Salad, Homemade Soups, and the Peach or Cherry Pie.

Holy Overrated Batman! I decided to make the trek down to the Blue Owl on our day off. I was expecting more from the whole experience. Kimmswick I thought was supposed to be charming... I just found it to be divey and rundown. Potholes were everywhere, I felt like I was playing Mario Kart. Once I got parked and inside everything about it seemed tacky. I know that might be part of their style/allure, but it wasn't working for me. I could have looked past it if the food was actually good, but sadly it just wasn't. The roast beef sandwich was as dry and flavorless. With an extra helping of gravy we could choke it down, but it was a huge letdown. The cod fish special for Good Friday also was not appealing. It was a cornmeal breading, that was bland and flaky. It didn't stick well to the fish, so you were usually eating the cod bare, and trying to scoop up some breading to go with it. They were out of most all the desserts I wanted to try. I ended up with some type of chocolate cake, and it was only average. Any bakery worth anything could do better. I don't intend on every making the drive down there again. I guess it's something that a lot of St. Louis people have on their Restaurant To Do List, and I am glad I went, but I am also glad I don't ever have to go back.

Ok maybe I came in expecting 4-5 star dining, when I should of been expecting southern comfort food. I started with a cup of Stuffed Pepper Soup and a cup of White Chicken Chili. They were both delicious. The three salads at the table set the stage for an epic meal as they delighted the pallets of my fellow diners. The main courses arrived and disappointment set in. My Baked Chicken Salad Pie was probably the perfect flavor and texture yesterday when it was made but after three minutes in a microwave today it was dry and lifeless. The open faced roast beef was next to be placed in front of me and the brown gravy was room temperature over beef riddled with grissel. I then tried the daily special Country Freid Steak. It was done well and the gravy was in a bag yesterday when the Pie was made. My side were Greenbeans, Mac n Cheese, and Cheesy Corn bake. The sides lacked creativity, and were served room temp. Desert hit a home run. The reason to eat at the Blue Owl. My report leaves me with. I will be back for breakfast or desert again.

Yummy baked chicken salad baked pie. I had this for late lunch. It was a stretch from what I usually would get and a pleasant surprise. I had the strawberry salad as a first course. My only complaint would be that as delicious as it tasted it really was quite SMALL. Really SMALL. Which is why the 4 stars. My mother in law got the same thing, my husband the roast beef dinner and my father in law the chicken n dumplings. Which looked delicious and he was very pleased with it. I would encourage the trip to try it. I will definitely go back. Check Tge shops out and maybe get a slice of choc cream pie.

The food was ok. I had the prime rib sandwich and my wife had a chicken sandwich w/ a pesto sauce. Both sandwiches were bland. No seasoning at all. The staff was very nice, service was good, the drinks we had were very good. They seem to be catering to the 70 + crowd. It is sad, they will not have a clientele in a few more years.

Traveling cross country and I decided to visit the Blue Owl for lunch on a Summer Friday. Place was crowded but still had room for a few more. Lots of tourists. Food was great. Reasonably priced. Wish I had just had desert. Lot of different ones made it difficult to stick to just one. Worth the diversion from my trip. After lunch I walked and rode around the town. It wasn't time wasted.

This is how The Blue Owl does reservations: they don't take reservations, except for parties of 5 or more. For smaller groups, you can call the morning you're going, give your name and approximate time of arrival. Check in at the hostess station when you get there, and they fit you in. My college chum and I arrived at 11 a.m., and were seated right away. The place was bustling. We opted to sit on the veranda, which was covered and well-ventilated with many ceiling fans. Our server was delightful, efficient and helpful. She kept our iced teas filled, and we had a decanter of water at the table. We both got the Terrific Trio: you pick three from salad, soup, quiche, sandwiches and dessert. She chose 1/2 Cobb salad, 1/2 Reuben and the Caramel Pecan Levee-High Apple Pie. I chose 1/2 Cobb salad, a cup of Canadian cheese soup and 1/2 Reuben. All their salad dressings are homemade. She got Thousand Island. I got bleu cheese, and it was fabulous. The Cobb salad was HUGE and full of bacon, chicken, black olives, bleu cheese chunks (not crumbles), tomato and lettuce. The flavors were lovely and so fresh. I do not know how this was 1/2 a salad. I ate half, then moved on to the soup. The soup was thick and creamy, full of mashed up potatoes, celery, carrots and onion, Canadian bacon and cheese. For all of that, it was not chunky, but amazingly smooth. And delicious. The Reuben was terrific. I've never had such tender and tasty corned beef. The marble rye was toasted. Good amount of Swiss cheese. It was a little light on the sauerkraut -- for my taste -- but I love sauerkraut. And it came with a tasty, crunchy pickle spear! YUM! My college chum didn't eat her pickle, but I didn't notice that until the server was taking her plate away. I almost grabbed it. But I do have some modicum of couth, so I restrained myself. Her Caramel Pecan Levee-High Apple Pie was the largest dessert I've ever seen. She loved it, and took more than half of it home. I took half of my salad and half of my sandwich home. Our server was kind enough to bring me two to-go vessels, so the dressing from the salad didn't get into the sandwich. And a bag for easy carrying. And she brought us to-go iced teas!! Service was spectacular, and it was just a delightful experience with fabulous food!

You have to go about 30 miles south of St. Louis and back in time about 100 years in order to be up on national food trends in St. Louis. Enter: Oprah's favorite pie shop. Now no offense to my rotund sisters, but if Oprah says the pie is good somewhere, I'm gonna trust the bitch. I'd call her a reliable source. I don't even like pie, but I begged Jessica C. to take me here when she told me about it. I tried not to sound desperate, but I'm sure she could hear the yearning in my voice. We settled for the giant ice cream cones in the little storefront they have in the front of this place (I think it's the same place). I had some ice cream that was caramel and had M&M's and oreos in it. It was some of the best ice cream I've ever had. And I'm a reliable source on ice cream. The lady called it "Pirate's Treasure" ice cream. Jessica was like, "You mean Pirate's Booty?" And the lady got all offended and was like, "There are children around, which is why I didn't say that word." Oh jeeeeesus. If "booty" is a bad word here, they would not like me.

I have eaten here before so I know the food is delicious. But today we just stopped for dessert as I wanted to try another place for food but KNEW I wanted dessert from here. The apple Carmel pie is my favorite!!! My mouth just waters thinking about it! My other half opted for the pecan pie and it too was sooo good (yes, i had a taste). There is a reason this place is famous for its pies, THEY ARE THE BEST!!!!! We also got gooey butter cookies that were also fantastic! The decor is charming, and everyone was very nice and friendly. The whole town of kimmswick is that way! It really is like stepping back into time. It is so worth the short trip from St. Louis. I highly recommend stopping here!

Thoroughly enjoyed the special of the day 'Tilapia' fish. Service was excellent, place was very clean. Enjoyed the apple pie with caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Chicken soup was also outstanding. I doubt if you could have anything bad here. Also very much liked the tropical salad with Blue's Owl's own poppyseed dressing.

My (now) husband and I got married the weekend of hurricane Issac, and due to destruction & flooding caused by the hurricane, we found out 2 days before the wedding that we would not have our wedding & grooms cake as planned. We did a quick google search for best pie in the St. Louis area, and Blue Owl was the first up! We made one quick call and were informed that they would be able to help us, even with the short notice. My mom, the groom and I got into the car and made the very quick drive to Kimmswick. Such a cute town by the way. We decided to eat lunch before tasting pies, and had a delightful server who made us excellent drinks! Lunch was tasty and I loved the vibe of the place. Next we went to the pie counter and spoke to Kayla S. She was so sweet, helpful and was obviously an expert. She took us to taste many, many pie flavors and helped us choose the right options for our wedding. We chose 4 flavors (but it was so hard to choose, they were all delicious!), pecan chocolate chip, coconut cream, apple and strawberry rhubarb. We decided to have individual sized pies on a "cupcake" stand with a heart shaped pie for us to cut. Kayla was so helpful and specific about our needs and she did a beautiful job setting up the pies for us day of! I could not recommend Blue Owl Bakery more. We received SO many compliments on our wedding pies (people couldn't keep their hands off, and went back for seconds and sometimes thirds!) They were beautiful and best of all delicious. I believe Blue Owl pies are a unique and affordable alternative to traditional wedding cakes. Thanks for making our wedding so memorable for us and our guests!

Just had their southern fried chicken special. Fried chicken was pretty ok. The sides green beans and mashed potatoes were ok too. Nothing to write home about. The deserts are supposed to be their claim to fame. Disappointed they have no more mile high Apple pie

Strawberry salad was the best thing we got at our latest trip to kimmswick it was amazing and then it went down hill from there .... I got a rueben sandwich and broccoli soup they were ok not great not horrible got coconut cream pie for dessert and for a place that's suppose to be known for its desserts it was just sub par pie crust wasnt that good and the filling tasted like instant very disappointed but the biggest shock of all got one of their mile high caramel apple pies to go can honestly say it was one of the worst apple pies I have ever ate ! Pie crust tasted like bread, apples were sour and really not much flavor and The Whole thing (pie) tasted stale, caramel was like thick rubber and almost un edible ended up throwing most of it away ... and at the prices they charge totally inexcusable

I took my parents here one gorgeous weekend afternoon after seeing this place sooo many times on Food Network. The pies looked delicious! My parents love love love the pecan pie. I got to try the candied pecans & was wowed by the taste. Not toooo sweet. Just perfect. Delish! This place is in a quaint small town.

First time at the Blue Owl, and I must say I have some mixed reviews about the experience. we had an hour and a half wait before we could get a table, but a festival was going on so we had plenty to look at while we waited. We got our table on time and the server hit the table promptly and was super nice and a pleasure to have as our server. I ordered a burger with a side of steak fries, chips come with the burger but I paid the extra to get the fries. The burger was awesome, lots of flavor and cooked delightfully well. they were out of steak fries and so I got waffle fries instead, didn't like them too much. The blue owl is known for their pies, since some of them are literally almost a foot tall. my partner decided to order a slice of the "levee high apple pie" and i agreed to split it with him. The pie was good, however it didn't have as much flavor as I thought it would, it was a little on the bland side. I won't give it complete thumbs down and I am willing to try another piece in the future to see if its different. Overall my experience was a good one and I will return to the Blue Owl for a second round of tasting in the future..

Ok, I know this is one of Oprah's Favorite Places and the ladies really love the fake country frilly stuff, but when you really take a hard look at the place, the pie is only good, not great and its really expensive (two pieces of pie and coffee cost us $20 including a modest tip) and the food is average at best. I guess you go here for the experience, but for me, I've done it once and don't need to go again. The blue haired ladies seem to be everywhere and the place kinda reeks cute, country kitchen. Be warned if you get here too late in the afternoon, you will have a very limited pie selection to choose from. The staff was right on it and very nice BTW. I may be jaded by the over the top quaintness of the town in general but if your into it, this would be a great place on a weekend.

If I could give negative stars I would. First off we waited and waited for our waitress to come over and greet us, while waiting I noticed how overly decorated it was and I was rather unimpressed by the paper placemats. The waitress brought our drinks then disappeared again before taking our order. We were starving at this point and ended up eating the partially crushed crackers that were in a cup on the table. I had the tropical salad come out first and my mother had the hawaiian cole slaw. The salad was subpar and the dressing was way to sweet for me. I also noticed the chicken was a bit off but I ate it anyway because I was hungry. Mom said the slaw was awful and when I had a bite I noticed it was lukewarm and not very good. Finally our food came out and I had the chicken salad. I can honestly say it was some of the worst chicken salad I've had. The chicken was chewy and tasted like scraps. The dressing had some herb or spice that I didn't care for and the chips were from a bag. Mom's meat was overcooked but her potato casserole was actually not bad. For dessert I had the strawberry cake which was only ok. It was covered in commercial whipped topping which to me tastes like crisco. Mom's pie was ok. The filling was good but didn't taste homemade. The real issue I have here is that now my mom is showing signs of food poisoning and is very nauseous and can't stop shivering and I myself am not feeling very well. Will definitely not be back.

The food was ok. I had the trio. Chicken and dumplings were good. Mini smoked Turkey was so small and the bread was so soggy I could barely eat it. The strawberry pie was good, but I have definately had better. Maybe I just picked the wrong items, didn't seem like a place I would wait in line to get into again.

I am a fan of their pie. I love their pies and their pie selection. It's the ONLY reason they get a 4 star. They have SO MUCH pie and it's all DELICIOUS! They get 5 stars for the pies and 2.5 stars for everything else. I'll round it to 4 to be nice. Their food is decent but not amazing (it's country food, i guess so it tends to underwhelm me) and somewhat pricey for what i'm getting. The service is decent, but nothing amazing. Our waitress was friendly but not as organized as I hoped. I say just go for a pie-venture and not plan on eating normal food there. the pie is worth it, however. just go early and know what you want. calling and reserving pie slices might not be a bad idea if that's allowed. we almost didn't get pies because they kept on telling us they were out of things we wanted. it was a rather frustrating experience, but reasonably worth the wait. after all, great pie is amazing! :D

I am not sure what the big deal about this place is. The pies are huge? Is that the big thing? Cause if so, it's not worth the drive. Just eat two pieces of regular pie stacked on top of each other. The food is solid, nothing special. It's a country kitchen for sure. But I have been to better country kitchens. And I have been to worse. The poppy seed dressing was a standout weirdly enough. My family all liked their food, but no one was totally in love. Overall, a MEH experience

I will admit I have had some bad experiences here - but I go here a lot, and no one place is perfect, hence the five stars. On a good note... My girlfriends and I do the Kimmswick thing every year. I love the strawberry salad, I could lick the plate for thier poppyseed dressing, not joking. When they have it, their stuffed pork chops are really really good. My girlfriends swear by the white chicken chili ( I will take their word on it, not my thing) Breakfast - stuffed french toast is really good - but super sweet. Pancakes are also really good. Oj comes in little grandma cups - so beware! My hubby spent 8 bucks last time, never again!! On to the good stuff - Alcohol, yes alcohol...they got thier liquor licence a year ago and have expeirmented with different things - but the Pineapple Upside drink is really yummy. My hubby liked the Vodka, sprite and cherry syrup connocotion they were making one day :)) and of course DESERT is thier thing so of course its really good and a little goes a loooong way. If you want apple pie - the mile high levy pie is really good but pricey at 45 bucks or so, the mini pies are 8 bucks and are really just a good mini version!

I started off with soup and salad. The soup was ridiculously good - it was chicken velvet, and was rich and creamy with great chicken flavor and tender white meat. The salad was basic, but the 1000 island dressing was really good. My entree was chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes, with white country gravy. The potatoes were good, but the chicken fried steak was just average, and the gravy was a disappointment. I expected much better from a country place, and it would have been a 3 star rating if the soup wasn't so good. Also, the people I was with enjoyed their meals, and everyone loved their desert.

Blue Owl: Tasty comfort food that's worth the drive. The service is friendly, and the fare is friendly to the wallet, though not the waistline. Favorites are chicken and dumplings and a slice of delicious apple pie with caramel.

Quaint, charming restaurant, good service and great food. Specialty is their desserts, and you won't be disappointed. My only complaint today was that is was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. Tood me about 1/2 hour to thaw out after getting out of there. Bring a sweater!

Best bananna cream pie ever... In my entire life... Of 50 years. Can't stop thinking about it... And it is a long drive from Atlanta. : (

When - Sunday afternoon What - Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans Review - Short wait for a 8 person table. The service was good and fast. The food was excellent and portions were big. Dessert is a must at the Blue Owl!

(4)Kimberly F.

Country home cooking!

(3)Heather P.
The only reason I eat here was because of the Food Network and it was just okay. Nothing special except the bakery goods... Oh and the prices were outrageous!!!
(3)Karen L.

(4)Erin B.

(5)carlos R.

(5)Chris M.
The Blue Owl had some of the best home style food I've ever had. Even the salad, a strawberry salad, was very tasty. The roast beef was tender, and the strawberry cake was delicious. Will be back for sure!
(5)David M.
Gooey Butter Cheesecake. As good as it gets.

Dare I say that the only thing this place has going for it is the pies? Entrée - I have visited on several occasions and ordered lunch with desert, and have always felt a little disappointed with my actual meal. Nothing on the menu really is enough to make you want to come back. I have sampled a variety of the items and just was never impressed with any of my meals, they all seem pretty basic. I do recall on my most recent visit I ordered the Open Faced Roast Beef, and recall it being overly salty for my taste. Deserts - Yes, Oprah herself named Blue Owl's Mile High Apple Pie one of her favorite things, and rightfully so. It is simply delicious, its loaded with apples and caramel making it a delicious sugar high, but hey it has apples in so at least you're getting some of your daily allowance of fruit so it can't all be bad. Other options are available however I wasn't impressed with some of the other choices like the cheesecake, it tasted average at best. To summarize, if you order desert, stick with what the Blue Owl is known for, the Mile High Apple Pie! Just do not get the pie ala mode, it will be way too much and ruin the pie if you decide to take home your left overs! Atmosphere - The atmosphere here is cute, but I feel that it's something my grandma would even have found tacky after a while. Despite the gimmicky outfits, the service here is always great. The staff is friendly and good at what they do, which would explain why many of the waitressed have been here for years! Another thing is to be prepared for a wait during weekends, as this place can get crowded. Overall I had a hard time coming up with an number for my review, however I decided that The Blue Owl as a whole is a solid 3.5 Rating (rounded up to 4 star), however the Apple Pies would be a solid 5 star rating by itself.

Pie.

(3)Lisa L.
Great place to go with the girls and have a great meal and funny. The food is great and the stuff friendly. Pies are a must if you can save some room for it. You will never go away hungry from here. If you have to take some home and eat the pie!!
(5)Kim H.
(4)Kristen S.

Love going to the Blue Owl for early lunch on Saturday or Sunday's. The food and desserts are wonderful. If your going to go you should always call for reservations.

(4)George L.

This is such a great place to relax and dine. Great food and servers. I love the creamy onion soup and spinach and artichoke quiche!

(5)Elisha P.
Just had their southern fried chicken special. Fried chicken was pretty ok. The sides green beans and mashed potatoes were ok too. Nothing to write home about. The deserts are supposed to be their claim to fame. Disappointed they have no more mile high Apple pie
(3)David N.

(4)Stan S.

(1)Sarah F.
(2)Hao X.
(4)AJ F.
(3)Danielle K.
(5)Mike R.
(4)Patrick W.
Blue Owl: Tasty comfort food that's worth the drive. The service is friendly, and the fare is friendly to the wallet, though not the waistline. Favorites are chicken and dumplings and a slice of delicious apple pie with caramel.
(4)Vicki M.
Quaint, charming restaurant, good service and great food. Specialty is their desserts, and you won't be disappointed. My only complaint today was that is was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. Tood me about 1/2 hour to thaw out after getting out of there. Bring a sweater!
