The rooftop is just what you need on a nice Kansas City night. There's plenty of space to lounge and sit for a drink. The place kinda turns into a dance club at like 10 or so so if you get all liquored up and want to dance, just head downstairs. If you check in with yelp you get free spinach dip! I think the only downfall is the view from the rooftop. It overlooks a csrwash and the night we were there, a guy was washing his car for a good hour... I mean it was kind of amusing to see his technique but I would rather have liked to see the city in the distance.

So, it took me awhile to come back here because this place left a really bad taste in my mouth. The owner read my review and was really apologetic which I dearly appreciate; now that lovely service. I came back and the service was a zillion times better, we were checked on and the waitress was really attentive and nice. I had a specialty cocktail that came in a really awesome tiki cup. I order a burger (which was yummy) and redeemed a free app of the spinach dip with check-in, which is some of the best I've had. This place is really awesome, the lovely rooftop dinning is now to par with the service and I couldn't be happier.

Came here for lunch after a long drive and it was pretty great. I love the Waldo area, and the fact that you can sit on the roof here and look around at it is cool. I sat on the roof for about 10 minutes and was never helped so I decided to sit at the rooftop bar. After that poor start things got much better. This place has a great menu and the bartender was pretty cool. I can tell this is where the younger crowd in Waldo must hang out. I don't think I would probably come back to hang out at night or anything. The roof had a few beers on tap....two Boulevard ones which was enough for me I suppose. They served it in plastic cups which I found a little odd. I really didn't expect to be blown away by the food but it was far better than I expected. My French dip was outstanding! The fries were awesome as well. Overall it was a pretty relaxing time with a brew and some food on the roof with the beautiful weather.

My advice is do NOT go at night in the weekends! The place is trashy. It takes forever to get a drink. Once a bartender finally takes your order he keeps asking what you want. The third time he finally leaned in closer to hear what I ordered. It was like he JUST realized the music was loud and that he couldn't understand my order from the register. Then he had the nerve to give me attitude about ordering a Bloody Mary at 12:45am. I asked if they were closing and he said not until nearly a hour later at 1:30am. So I don't see why he had a problem with me or my order. After all I was paying him to make it???

The Well, owners Andy and Chris are doing things right...and that starts with an inviting atmosphere, coupled with tasty grub. The Resta-Bar, a combo restaurant/bar has a hip look, garage doors, that double as windows, that we're open today to let in the fresh air and subtle street noise. Several TVs dot the walls, all showing various sporting events. A long, well stocked bar, hugged a wall leading to stairs that climbed to the rooftop deck. The place was packed with, 20 something's looking for the perfect place to hang. We were there to have an early dinner, and I would've given 5 stars, except the place was so loud it was hard to hear the table conversation. The food was very good, my son and niece chowed down on their chicken fingers and fries...standard kids fair. My son really liked the honey mustard, and said the fingers were pretty tasty as well. I grabbed the club sandwich and fries. The sandwich, was standard fair, but very nicely put together, with toasted bread, it added just the right crunch to the bacon, turkey, lettuce, and tomato. The seasoned fries were natural cut, and better than most served at R/B's. Mom had the fish tacos, that she absolutely loved. I guess they were newly added to the menu. They looked great, with all the taco fixin's, with a big wedge of avocado to finish off the presentation. The plate was clean, which indicated she was a happy camper, plus she picked up the bill tonight...bingo... The well, a good neighborhood hangout, with lots to offer.

The well the well .. I was asked to come back to this amazing place and I can't tell you how much fun i had. I came on a Saturday around 10pm ish and to my surprise I was told there was a 5$ cover due to having a dj. Yes I got a bit upset I came for strictly dinner I danced before I made it here but ok what the heck we live almost a hour away so no turning back now. I and others were surprised that they were asking for a cover but I think they paid as well lol moving on. It's almost packed on the first level, as I searched for a waitress seemed I would get no luck, so we sat ourselves and my husband went looking and found success. On the phone we were told the kitchen closes at 12 midnight but the woman said the menu changes at 11pm. So we rushed to order. I got the creole pasta and my husband basic self got the nachos again. He isn't hard to please. But me... I wanted to be wowed. The music is great I'm jamming with my free check in chips and dip. Drinks were made within good timing with all the folks here just drinking. The pasta was good I added salt BAM and it took it there. Mai tai and adios drinks come in big cup. Don't know how much it was. But made well not to heavy handed and not soft either. Boogied the whole time I was here. Got to watch some funny drunk people dance and I sweated until I couldn't nomore. Time to go home. I'm absolutely in love with this place we are coming again and again!! Thanks CHRIS L. The owner takes his business real serious and has the BEST customer service.

Great food, drinks are little over priced and weak. The rooftop bar and seating is my favorite part.

I used the Yelp ordering option to have dinner delivered. The food is ok. Just ok. I ordered a Cuban (because when presented with an option that allows me to order something out of the norm delivery options, I go with a sandwich) and it wasn't overly flavorful. The bread they use is perfect for a Cuban, the pork and ham just need more flavor. You have a good variety of sides to choose to go with your sandwich. I decided on fries so I can make hash in the morning and they are pretty decent fries. The delivery service has a minimum order price of $15 so I added the donut things for dessert. They were overcooked and came in a paper bag, The donuts were supposed to be cinnamon sugar. The cinnamon sugar was in the bottom of the bag and not coated on the donuts. They either put them in cold, or didn't bother shaking the bag after adding them. Once cooled they were not going to coat in the cinnamon sugar whcih meant plain, overcooked, dough balls. Overall, the food isn't bad. I probably wouldn't rush back or order again anytime soon, but I would give them another try if someone wanted to go there. The order was delivered within 45 minutes.

Great for drinks and hanging with friends upstairs. Great for happy hour or after dinner cocktails. Upstairs outdoor is open year round with tent. The appetizers are great! Brunch is one of the biggest in town. Added a star, owner responded quickly to concerns when brought up.

I came here for brunch this morning to meet up with a group of co-workers. For $16.99 I had the full buffet which was really good with lots of variety from scrambled eggs to shrimp pasta to bread pudding. My waitress was outstanding. She refilled my coffee on cue like she could read my mind, no, better than that...she refilled it BEFORE it was on my mind! The atmosphere was casual, yet clean, and lots of people were having a good time. It felt good to be here. My group sat downstairs at a big round table, but I cant wait to return and sit upstairs/outside. I recommend it for brunch! 8/18/15 Update: a couple months ago (in June) I returned for brunch on the rooftop deck. Had an omelet and fried potatoes, my daughter had a salad and sandwich which she was happy with. It was great to relax with a Bloody Mary, all at reasonable prices. (see extra pics). I'm keeping my 4 star rating. :)

The Well is one of the better bar and grills in KC. The food seems to be hand made and the portions are LARGE. Sometimes it would be nice to have a smaller portion. When the weather is nice, eating on the rooftop is a must. Good food and sunshine on your face is always a good thing.

Had the tacos on special and 2 beers, bill was $30..........I thought the tacos were on special, $14.99 for three street tacos and a couple chips and salsa doesn't sound like a special. Won't be back

If I lived within walking distance of The Well, I'd be there often. For a sports bar, the menu choices, the food, and the wine are unusually good and at very reasonable prices. The service also is very good. But the parking problems and the noise level in the restaurant got progressively more difficult, starting at around 5 pm, when the restaurant became more crowded. We arrived at 4 pm and enjoyed it very much until the noise level became unpleasant.

After a long work week, my wife and I were looking to blow off some steam and get a few drinks in us on a Saturday afternoon. Cocktails or beer, the choices are almost overwhelming, but you will definitely find something you will like. Food is definitely a notch above the standard bar fare (really, swordfish). And last but not least, Emily rocks. If you don't know what to order form the bar, just tell her what you are in the mood for and she will take care of you!

Went here for my second time ever and it still did not impress me. I don't know what it is about this place. It seems very cool from the street with the fireplaces upstairs and the tiki torches, but the food was sub-par, especially the brunch for the cost. It's just ok in my opinion. Will I go back? Probably, but it wouldn't be my first pick. I think they are better off as a dance club. That must be where they make their money!

I should have just picked a dumpster to eat at. It would have probably been better than the well. Very rude customer service and a bug in my orange juice. Oh and don't sit outside for the life of you. I wish I could give it no stars because it's not worth the star.

I expected better. I'd been wanting to go to The Well for some time due to quite a lot of positive word-of-mouth. Looking at it objectively, though, I'm not sure why I thought I was going to have a different experience than I did. The rooftop patio is pretty cool, I'll give them that. It's a nice space that takes away the exceptionally obnoxious volume control issues most bars seem to have these days. (I'm there with my friends because I want to interact with them, not shout at them, desperately trying to convey that I'm going to get another drink.) That's pretty much where the uniqueness ends, though. The food is standard bar fare for a pretty steep price. $11 for chicken nachos and $6 for chips and salsa? Really? Not in KC, my friends. I'll take some Pace and a bag of Santitas over that any day. The drinks were equally disappointing. My fiancee had some awful vodka berry disaster that tasted like strawberry Quik with a splash of soda and a hint of cough syrup. I, fortunately, stuck with my overpriced Boulevard selections. I guess there's nothing heinously wrong with The Well, but it definitely would not be my first choice of places to go. Just remember that it's a bar, like any other bar. Don't let the rooftop patio convince you that paying 50% more for the same things available at any of the other watering holes next door and across the street is worthwhile.

What's there to say about The Well? It's casual, comfy, and sometimes even elegant. The roof is absolutely amazing in pleasant weather (fire pit tables are so excellent) and their wait staff is generally top notch. (Marry me, Emily, you minx!) I eat there for lunch at least once a week and I've never been let down. The specials can be a teensy bit repetitive (hoo, they love that Philly Cheese Steak!) but then again, anything's repetitive when you eat somewhere once a week. I generally bail before the DJ shows up and things get real loud, as I go there for conversation and drinks, not dancing. Want something a bit divier and intimate? Head for Lew's.

The same day I wrote my review the owner messaged me and apologized for my experience, explaining the ATM was down that night and the employee would be talked to. He also insisted on sending my friend and I a gift card to be able to have a redo on them. That, to me, is an owner that really cares about his customers and business. I'll definitely give the Well another chance!

Brunch buffet status! We were seated in about fifteen minutes after our arrival. This was right after church around 12:30 on a Sunday so I think that's not too bad. We had the brunch buffet that was complete with everything from a waffle station to yogurt bar. They had bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, veggies, some chicken dish and sausage gravy and biscuits I couldn't eat because of gluten, and a make your own omelette station. They also had a huge variety of baked goods and desserts (all with gluten, sad day). I'll say the bread pudding at least smellllllllllled awesome. All that being said, the stuff I could eat was yummy. Alcohol wise (because it isn't brunch without it, right?) we had some mimosas. They offer pineapple, orange, or grapefruit options. I had a grapefruit one. It was fine, strong, and small. It cost something like $6 for maybe five swigs. Honestly, I wouldn't ever do it again. I'd go down the street to Louie's Wine Dive and pay $6 for a wine glass full or $11 for their bottomless version. Overall, it was a nice brunch. We easily spent two hours there just munching and chatting. :) The service was nice and prompt and never made us feel like we needed to be getting a move on.

Went to The Well for the first time today. Sat next to two very intoxicated women who were yelling and complaining about not enough meat on their nachos. The manager came to the table and the women continued to yell and be very rude to the manager. Compliments to the manager on duty for handling these psycho individuals.

Went to The Well for a graduation dinner knowing they could handle a group of 8-12 people and we'd had a good meal there once before. I wasn't as delighted this time, but part of it was just that I wish I'd ordered something else. I started out with the smoked salmon dip, and it was just as great as the last time-perfect smokiness and salmon-to-dressing ratio. I love this stuff! For dinner, I got the crab-topped baked cod on orzo. It was a very generous portion of flaky, well-cooked but under-seasoned fish, and the crab seemed like an afterthought. The orzo was tender, in a light but also under seasoned sauce. Salt, pepper, and lemon juice helped, but I just wanted a little more flavor. My brother, on the other hand, got a pot roast sandwich with mashed potatoes that looked delicious, and he cleaned his plate. I heard good reviews for the Tuscan chicken, shrimp bisque, and short rib tacos. Our server kept up well with members of our party arriving and ordering at different times, and things came out quickly. I like the airy, open floor plan of the dining room (it's always been either too hot or too chilly to eat on the deck). One suggestion: blinds for the west-side windows-that's where we sat, and some of us ended up wearing sunglasses! I'm sure I'll be back-I had a great wrap with the salmon dip the first time I ate here, and there are several things that sound really tasty. It's a fun place, and someday I'd like to get up on that roof.

Great patio, okay food. If you come here, come for happy hour and sit on the roof top deck. Or come for drinks and/or snacks at night and sit on the roof top deck. Basically the best thing they have going for them is the roof top deck. Food is just so-so. Did I mention the roof top deck?

Met a friend here over lunch last week and it was a perfect day for the rooftop which is well worth it. Apparently it stays open through to the winter but on this day it's was pleasantly warm. Sometimes the service on rooftops is slow but that wasn't the case here. Excellent service from the wait staff and there is a dedicated bar up there. Food was very good, if unspectacular. I much enjoyed the hummus as an appetizer - perfect for 2. Good choice of beers and there was a mix up on my order so I was able to sample one free. I wasn't charged for the beer that as erroneously served. Can't ask for more than that when a mistake happens. I've driven past his place many times and never really seen it. It is worth a visit, especially if you have some time to relax on the rooftop. Not a whole lot of parking on the premises itself

Emilie was my server tonight and she was fantastic. Definitely made it worth it. As for the food, the New England Clay Chowder was passable and the tomato slices on the Caprese salad were mushy. On the up side, the bread was just about perfect.

What better place to celebrate the anniversary of Baby Jessica McClure than the Well! Which BJM may be scared of wells or anything that is named "The Well" I am not scared of the well, it is actually quite inviting, I wouldn't mind being stuck here for 2 days. The nachos are half off during happy hour, they are massive, I was barely able to put down all the good nachos and leave the plain ones that were not good enough to win a Pulitzer Prize. They are served on a big pizza tray as well. Grilled chicken, cheese, all the typical nacho toppings. Baby Jessica wouldn't even have to use any trust fund money if she came here cause craft bottles are only 3 bucks during happy hour! Heck yes! Anyone can stand up to that deal, unless you're missing a toe. Also, there are 4 gluten free beers if that's your thing. Seems like the well has something for everyone! I'll be back soon I hope! Maybe I can venture around the menu a bit more too.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for the well yet. We go to happy hour here every so often. 1/2 apps and $3 draws and $5 cocktails. The hummus is my favorite app, but the wings are super yummy too. They make nice strong drinks. The staff is always friendly and fast. The manager on duty usually comes around and checks on everyone. We have had dinner here several times too. My favorite sandwich is the grilled salmon. We have had after work get togethers here and I even had a birthday party here a few years ago on the roof top. It was February and I had called ahead, they had the cover up and a heater blowing in so it was nice and warm on the roof in the middle of winter. Great atmosphere.

Worst hostess service ever. Get a host that knows how to handle a busy shift. You don't just let people seat themselves. My group also tried to get a table and after an hour left after we saw people seating themselves with no issue and no one intervening. I will not be coming back. You get one star bc I can't give no stars.

I cannot stress enough how mundane my experiences at The Well have been. I have been here a few times, once for a private party. The private room's atmosphere was decent, but I wasn't too thrilled at their selection of food via buffet trays. I think I ended up going to Jimmy John's afterwards. We stopped in during the Falldo Waldo Crawldo event, and it was packed. Like disgustingly packed. It was one big, sweaty frat party sardined in there. Eew. The next time we went, we were watching the presidential election results come in. I had a fish sandwich, which was just "okay". Last, we did Sunday brunch with the extended family. The brunch was surprisingly decent with respect to the selection. I had an omelet, mashed potatoes, bread pudding, cottage cheese, and a waffle. The butter and whipped cream looked so similar that I placed a huge dollop of butter on my waffle and ended up needing a nap afterwards. I may eat here again simply for brunch, but I am not going to go out of my way to schedule it into my planner.

The Well is kind of a bizarre place. It isn't a sports bar, but it isn't quite trendy and sometimes there is a dance floor. Regardless, because it doesn't really discriminate as to what it is, it falls into a neutral zone that most people can agree upon and I end up here more than most any other bar outside of the Northland. The strangest part of The Well is the food. This not typical bar food and they offer some pretty pricey items. I typically don't order food and on my last visit I did manage to score some free Spinach Artichoke dip thanks to checking in on Yelp, but I didn't order anything else because vegetarian options are very very limited and I didn't want to shell out $15+ for anything. Service is usually pretty good though. I also really like the patio, but inside and outside do tend to get loud. Happy Hour offers decent-ish deals and it is calm enough to have a conversation, but it only gets rowdier once the night goes on.One nice perk of The Well is that there is plenty of parking nearby... something that I relish thanks to most other KC districts.

Sunday Brunch 10-2pm Bacon, Ham, Sausage, Waffles (with banana fosters syrup!), Omelet Bar, Seafood Ravioli, Chicken Tenders, Mashed Potatoes, and a ton of sweets. I don't remember seeing biscuits. I better go back and check that out. I spilled my tea on the table and the bill. Didn't try the Bloody Mary bar...but they had one...and I saw a lot of mimosas being consumed... still a lot of kids about. Really good food.

The roof top bar is a great place to be afternoon/evening for a moderately priced happy hour. Love the wine specials though I prefer a martini any day. (They have delicious ones) Emily O. Is top notch and could run circles around the other girls, or be their boss. Always have great service with her, never a disappointment. Also love the nachos but put more cheese on them!

I've given The Well several chances. Nothing has ever been inedible but nothing has been outstanding! We've been to the brunch which was so-so at best...cold-ish food and watered down juice...? I have had the turkey sandwich which was REALLY good but I think I could've made it at home. We recently went to the happy hour...the bartender said he'd just arrived and didn't know the special nor did he know the new menu well nor did he explain the well drinks included in happy hour! We for nachos which tasted like it had powdered cheese on it? The wings were good but the blue cheese dressing was so watered down it wouldn't stick to anything as was the buffalo sauce...what the heck? A second female bartender not only made me a MUCH better drink but paid attention to our needing new drinks. We have finally decided no more tries for The Well...

2 floors, more TV's than I have ever seen in one place. They also have an upper deck with fire pits. Awesome for any sports fan. The staff makes sure that you're well taken care of. Excellent food, huge selection of both food and drinks. It's a place where you can come by more than once a week.

Just came back from watching the Royals clinch the AL division championship! I was bellied up to the back bar which is rarely opened from what they said. For starters , the "hostess" never greeted me. The bartender would NOT make eye contact with me nor ask me what I wanted to drink. he had ZERO personality to say the least, Never was offered food until I mentioned it to a server who was at the bar waiting for drinks. I even asked the bartender to turn up the muted TV's, who responded that they would be too loud once the commercials were playing. WTF? And the manager told me that opening the "garage doors" would create too much of a draft if the opposite one was open at the same time. ???????? Finally I asked a manager to please turn up the TV's since the Royals were clearly going to the WS. The chicken nachos were large and delicious once they arrived. Bartender seemed to perk up once it became clear I was irritated and the server mentioning it to him. Attention staff....please ditch the attitudes and remember the CUSTOMER!

The Well has become the default Happy Hour spot for my co-workers and I. Although I much prefer hanging out on the roof, the main indoor area is spacious and comfortable. The last time I was there, the basketball game was at a verging-on-annoying volume (and I'm a sports fan), but it was March Madness and I haven't had that problem before, so I'm going to call it a fluke. Most of the food I've had has been off the Starters menu, and it's all been very good. The hummus and wings are excellent, and the nachos are huge and have a load of toppings. The beer selection is good, and the wine list is nice for a place that sits closer to the sports bar side of the axis than anything else. Service is always friendly and prompt. At my last visit, the server recommended a different wine than the one I chose, because she said she found it more flavorful. It was Happy Hour, so there wasn't a price difference, and I appreciated the advice. And I'll give an extra plus to any place that has the super-powerful hand dryers in the bathroom.

This is our go-to for college football watching. The food is definitely a step up from bar food. Lots of selection and always very well prepared! I love the rooftop seating and the bartenders are excellent at suggesting new things to try. My only complaints are minor. 1.) I don't mind that they allow smoking on the rooftop, but I've been up there several times with large parties who are all smoking cigars, and that makes it hard to enjoy my meal 2.) I'm not a huge fan of having the crazy loud DJs on the main floor on weekends All in all, we will be back, and probably frequently.

Stopped in to kill some time around 4:00 on a Thursday. Staff didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in. We sat ourselves and waited to be greeted for about five minutes. No luck! So we went to Tanners. Step up your game during slow times! Bush League!

I enjoy their beer selection and their patio. The service is usually really fast as well. The only down side are the amount of bros residing here. I have to dodge many an abercrombie and boat shoed bro in the couple times I've been here. However, given the beer selection and service, I'm ok with the crowd. This is a great spot in Waldo especially in the summer.

I went to the well and had the most horrible experience with a surly, slow, tacky waitress named Emily. She messed up our orders and spent a lot of time visiting or talking with the other servers. We were looking for an off beat location to recommend to our out of town clients coming in for the all star game. We know that power and light will be really crowded and we heard that this place was not far from the plaza with a great rooftop bar and food. Unfortunately the fish tacos were not enough to overcome the crappy service provided. Since we were there for lunch I can only imagine what this waitress would be like during a crowded all-star weekend event. My manager expressed his displeasure with the server to the management. We found it interesting that she had been a server there for a long time. The well without Emily would be a great venue. The good thing is she works mostly day time hours. Wr r going tom try again at a later time and hope "crappy server" is not working any overtime,

I came to the well with a few friends to watch the first world series game... what a mistake! We arrived at 5:30 (an hour and a half before the game started) and my friend put her name in for our 5 person group. Meanwhile, I watch at least three groups of 4+ people SEAT THEMSELVES in the busy restaurant. I go to confer with the hostess... turns out she typed the phone number in wrong and allowed those people to seat themselves. I've worked in the food service industry for years (as both a hostess and waitress). When people seat themselves, you don't just allow them to cut the guests who have been patiently waiting- you politely tell them that other guests have been waiting for a table and ask them to wait their turn. This was standard practice at the three KC places I've worked. This hostess was shy at best, incompetent at worst. I gave 1 star for the bar service we received while we waited (fast and friendly). Kudos to 75th street brewery, who took us in after we were shafted at the well!

The Sunday brunch is legit. 10-2pm - $15.99/adult I thought the price was a bit steep - you don't even get a mimosa thrown in for free, but the food was hot and fresh so that made me feel better. Also, if our server was on point, I would have gladly given 5 stars. You've got your bloody mary bar, waffles, omelet bar, fruit, biscuits and gravy, pastries (croissants, monkey bread, etc), scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, potatoes, fruit...then a bit further down, you get your chicken strips, mashed potatoes, shrimp ravioli that is OUT of this world and veggies. I fell into comotose after...

8 of us arrived around 9 PM, we were not greeted but we immediately found an uncleared table, right in the middle of the room. That might have been our first sign that our service would be terrible. We sat for a while with servers walking by looking at our table, yet none helped us- probably why a prime table was empty. I found a manager, asked if there was a server for our table, and could he send the server over; he said yes. Server finally came by, and we had to help clear the table. We struggled to get menus (table next to us finally shared their menus, seeing our predicament), get drinks, get food ordered, we never got the waters we ordered, and we had to repeatedly ask another server to send our server back over. I actually wanted to order an entree, but was never asked for my order, despite the fact that I told our server, "can we please get menus, we plan to order dinner." So.... we attempted to order drinks from the bar instead and put those on our open tabs. Several of us were told by the bartender that we could not order drinks on our tab that our server had open, we needed to order from our server or close our tab with her and restart it at the bar if we wanted drinks. No assistance on getting that done, just attitude from the bartender. Really?? We are trying to order here and stay and buy your products and tip well -the music was great!- but it's difficult to order OR close a tab if your server doesn't come around. We eventually closed our tabs at the next visit of our server, and took our business elsewhere, which is too bad because I think we all wanted to stay and tried to give the staff every opportunity to assist us. I had recommended going to The Well, but probably won't go back again, and won't recommend it. I'm usually a big tipper and very forgiving of an overwhelmed server (I've walked in those shoes), but the service was beyond terrible and there was no effort from any of the staff to recover.

After my first review, The Well management graciously reached out to me with an apology and invitation back. So I headed back last night with a couple friends, headed upstairs to the rooftop patio (zipped up in a plastic tent to keep out the wind), sat at a table with a mini fire pit, and ordered a round of the elusive Boulevard Chocolate Ale. I was living in Florida during last year's Chocolate Ale-mageddon, and I admit I scoffed at my friends' tweets and facebook raves. Chocolate beer? Gross. Well, now I'm eating my words on both the beer and this Waldo establishment. This beer is delicious. I also ordered a burger, which was good, but I prefer a patty with a larger diameter than the bun. When we ordered another round of the Chocolate Ale, our server informed us that they had run out. I resigned myself to savoring my last sip... when she came back and said that a last-minute delivery was arriving! If we hung around another 15 minutes, we could get more Chocolate Ale. AWESOME SERVICE. So, it might be the glow from the firepit and the above-average temps, or the crazy high alcohol content of this special brew, but I'm bumping The Well to 4 stars, and I will definitely return.

Unfriendly service. We went to The Well with a group of 9 on a Friday night. We arrived at 7:20 and the bar was crowded but not packed. We asked the hostess how long it would be to be seated while others in our group went to order drinks at the bar. The hostess was very vague and didn't give us a time frame. A couple of us went up stairs to check out the rooftop bar which was crowded and looked like fun. After coming back down we noticed two empty tables in the back with two full tables next to them. I asked the hostess about using those tables but she said that was where the dance floor would be and we could not sit there. I asked what time did they clear the tables for the dance floor and she said between 8:30 & 9:00. It was 7:30 which should have given us enough time to eat and move before they needed the dance floor. The hostess said "oh no we can't do that". We ended up finishing our drinks and going to another bar and grill in the area where we spent over $350 for dinner and drinks and the service was friendly. After reading several reviews it seems that others have had unfriendly service too. It was very disappointing we were looking for a fun evening starting with dinner and drinks then dancing. There are to many restaurant choices in this area to put up with unfriendly service.

Ya know, Yelp, this place IS in Waldo. I mean, I had a lot to drink, but it's pretty hard to mix the two up. Why must you claim it's in the Plaza? Anywho, I have only been here for drinks...and weekend day drinks at that. However, I definitely like this place. All of the open air spaces to sit are fantastic, but the inside is just as nice, and both have always seemed mighty clean considering the debauchery that often goes down in Waldo drinking spots. Service has always been really friendly, and the drinks chilly and well mixed. Prices seem fair, but if you can get a drink special it's even better. Cannot comment on the food, though.

Had great meal with my wife here at The Well last nite. Our server Angie went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience.

I don't have the highest expectations when it comes to bar food. I just want whatever I get to be serviceable. However, The Well does bar food right. Their wraps, burger, and sides are all delicious. It's a good, broad crowd that frequents here and it doesn't claim allegiance to one particular local college. Of course the rooftop is nice, but I enjoy watching basketball games and playing Big Buck Hunter with friends more than anything. A really welcome addition to Waldo.

It's okay. My friend picked this one. I'm not much of a "bar" person. The standard I'm looking for is cleanliness. And it was clean.

We came in for Sunday brunch. I thought 16.99 was a little steep, but the food was pretty good. The service was just okay. It took a long time for our plates to be cleared, waters to be filled, etc. This is not why I'm writing this review, however. Two more friends of ours met us a little bit after we had gotten there. As soon as they sat down, he was informed that, as a man, you have to wear sleeves. A girl friend of mine gave him her sweater, and though he was a little surprised and embarrassed, he took it. (After all it's 85 degrees out) Then he proceeded to walk to the buffet to look at the food. A manager then came up to him and said "that's not good enough". He was thoroughly embarrassed at that point, and decided to leave. The crazy part is, our waitress and the manager each said they had no idea why the rule is in place. They were happy to enforce it and make my friend uncomfortable, though. I don't think I'll be back.

Short and sweet.... Hands down the best Fish Tacos I have had to eat. Service was good prices were fair no complaints here. However I do not understand the 5 dollar cover on the weekends for no reason what so ever. The waitress couldn't even tell me what it was for, anyone?

I had dinner for 3 the other night. It is very loud, in fact so loud I couldn't speak with my dinner guests. I ordered the hot dog, which cost $6.99. These greedy people charged $.50 for onions. The cheapest hot dog spot in town would not do that. The beer I ordered tasted "off". After half of it I reported it and asked for a half glass replacement of a different brand. They did replace it with 1/2 of a beer; so much for customer service. Maybe a full glass?? The 50 cent onions cost them all future business. The product cost of those onions was perhaps 1 cent. Really, how much do you need to make on a $7.00 hot dog?? dpope06

Although I would rather avoid the Well on a weekend night, the weather was perfect for an outdoor happy hour and I found myself in Waldo. Why not, right? So my friend and I secured a table on the spacious deck and indulged in happy hour. Not only were the drink specials fantastic, but we scored a free order of spin dip when I checked in on Yelp. Sweet! When it comes to a weeknight happy hour when the weather is gorgeous, I am unashamed to recommend the Well.

Went for lunch with a friend...the food was okay, but just okay...and VERY salty. I had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries. The chicken was soggy-ish and barely warm. The fries were good but could've used another minute in the fryer and sooo salty. My friend had the shrimp pasta which looked a little skimpy on the shrimp and was confirmed to be salty as well. This comes from someone who usually has to salt everything. And for lunch, everything seemed a little pricey (the pasta was $14). I don't think I'd go again.

I enjoy going to the Well and being able to spend time on the rooftop patio which is pretty chill. The area downstairs is great if you're looking for more of a party atmosphere since there is a DJ and dance floor. There is a cover after 9.

I had always heard of The Well in passing because it's so close to Waldo Pizza, however, had never made the short trek down the street to try until just recently. For my 23rd birthday, instead of doing the usual huge party and smoke-out, I decided it's time for something new, so I gathered my family together for a dinner at The Well. Parking in Waldo can be a bit of pain, especially at peak dinner hours, so we had to park in the back parking lot, which is about a half a block down from the restaurant, but it was a beautiful night, so I had no qualms with it. The restaurant had plenty of patrons upstairs enjoying the weather, but because my grandmother was with us, we decided to stay downstairs, where there weren't quite as many people, so we were seated the moment we walked in. Our waitress, who was bubbly and pleasant the entire evening, came by not a minute later to get our drink orders and, courtesy of Yelp!, a free appetizer of Spinach Artichoke dip and chips! We added an order of chili cheese fries and smoked salmon dip and eagerly awaited our appetizers. We waited for our appetizers to arrive to order, simply because there were too many good options to choose from! Our appetizers arrived a few minutes later, and holy bajeezus. Quite the spread! The salmon dip was absolutely out of this world! Served chilled with crackers, the dip is packed with TONS of salmon (and I mean TONS), seasoned with a sweet, slightly creamy, and capers (which I'm not normally a fan of), I didn't know it was possible to fall in love so quickly. PERFECTION. I could have made a meal out of it just by itself! The spinach artichoke dip was hot and steamy, but could have used a little more salt and pepper for my taste. I could have eaten more of it, but I was too busy obsessing over the salmon. The chili cheese fries were phenomenal too! I definitely had my fair share! I ended up ordering the smoked salmon sandwich with fries on the side, and wow! So good! The sauce they served with it was magical! It was definitely hard to eat the whole thing because the sandwich was huge - and I ate a lot of that dip - but I tried my hardest! My mom ordered the same, but our roommate ordered the fried chicken, which I had a couple of bites of... definitely ordering that next time! So good! My aunt ordered the chicken nachos - and I'm pretty sure I've never seen a plate of nachos that big before, they literally covered a pizza pan!

We stopped in on a Sunday evening around 6ish. The place was about 1/3 full. Our waitress was OK, but something was just off with her but I don't know what. The place is large and I'm not sure how to describe it. Is it a restaurant, a bar, a sports bar? I'm not sure. There are lots of TV's tuned to sports but the menu isn't a typical bar menu. Our food was all very good, so if you're going there to eat, yes, it's a good place to stop. If you're going there for drinks or sports, yes, I guess that works too.

The service was really bad. Parking is a major problem. The food was terrible. I ordered the fish and chips (the waitress asked me what kind of a side dish I wanted because she was unfamiliar with the menu), and they were soggy and served with gross proportions. I had to ask for malt vinegar twice. My husband and I had a couple of gift cards that he had been given, and the waitress scanned them both in before telling up they can't return a partial balance, so we had to wait another five minutes for her to let us use just one of the cards so we could just pay the rest in cash. Oy vey! (And don't get me started on the fact that she seemed to be dressed as if she were a waitress at Hooters with microscopically short shorts paired with the same kind of socks men wore while playing basketball in the 1970s) The wait for the waitress to take care of the check (not to mention the long wait between when we were seated and when she took our drink orders) were particularly unbearable because of the A/C set to freezing. I'm not going back.

i like the well because i don't like sports bars. and the well is a good place to watch sports while drinking wine from their REALLY NICE wine list. it's also a good place to go with my husband who loves sports bars. he can get a beer, watch the game, get excited by the crowd and the other ku fans - all while i sit there dressed in black and gold sipping vino pretending i'm not watching another ku game... but i digress. good drinks. nice, friendly staff. and the upstairs deck is nice when the weather is good. the food is upscale bar food. not amazing. but not horrible. we usually split some sort of appetizer and then go have dinner somewhere else later.

I was forewarned that this place probably was just bar food but crap would have been more accurate. I was craving fish and fresh crispy greens so I ordered the smoked salmon salad which I will admit, eating on the roof with very little light may have contriubuted to the gray hue of the food. This colorless delight was precooked, refridgerated and perhaps several days old. I couldn't muster the strength to chew on. One off flavored piece of gray salmon and that was it. I rarely return food but it had to go. The manager came over and in a highly off puting attitude informed me that the salmon was smoked, "Therefore it's very smokey". As if my ignorance for "smoked " salmon was standing in the way of enjoying the NOT FRESH food. She finally took it away and the wine was all the sweeter.

The one star is for the decor and the food - everything else gets a big fat zero stars! First, the parking situation is horrible and although it isn't their fault it is frustrating to have to walk 3+ blocks to get there. Now the restaurant/bar: we walked in and told the hostess there were 4 of us and we would like to be seated on the deck if possible and she said sure, just walk up the stairs so we walked up there only to see that it was packed and there was nowhere to sit; it was a beautiful night so I understand that the rooftop would be packed but there is no communication between the hostess and the upstairs staff. After going back downstairs we got a table by the front window (very nice and breezy). We finally got a waitress and she had quite a few tables but was unacceptably slow and and took at least 10 minutes to acknowledge our table then after we ordered she would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. Most of the time our bottles and glasses were empty. After asking for our check (twice) she again left for 15 minutes before coming back to get our payment. We also signaled to the manager (?) that we wanted to pay and she just walked away. Needless to say we won't be going back there ever again, instead we'll go to 75th Street Brewery.

The best part about the Well is the upstairs. They have a great patio on the roof. Very cool and downstairs there are a ton of TVs with sports on, so the atmosphere gets some props. Unfortunately the food sucks. I got the pastrami - which was awful and tasteless. The fries were nice. My husband got the burger which was obviously frozen standard crap on a hostess bun. Not nearly up to par. For a more interesting story - we went last summer on a beautiful afternoon day for some snacks while the kids were under someone elses care. All was going well on the rooftop (which we had pretty much to ourselves) until we were attacked by bees. We probably killed a dozen or so - which only seemed to make them madder. We moved tables several times and they just kept following us. The waitress said that the bees had been a problem and there must be a hive nearby, but they didn't know where. I don't know how this summer will go, but beware! If you are allergic, I'd bring my epipen.

Went with friends for dinner last night (Sat.), hugh mistake. The volume of the music was ludicrous, wait staff was not very attentive had to wait and wait to be served, then she never came back and we had to hunt her down to get our checks. The food was typical bar food, but I must say, not the worst I've ever had, so I'll give an extra star for that. Get there early, or you'll have to park blocks away. I won't go back.

First timer and it won't be my last! The outside rooftop patio is at the top of my list for outside seating. We sat at a table in comfy lawn chairs, and could put our feet up and relax! The view, most awesome... whoever thought a view from a well could be so cool! :-) We had a great dinner...salmon salad and some kind of yummy sandwich. Wine and drinks, and great service. The weather was perfect for the evening, so yes, that helped, but the atmosphere, the food, the kick-back relaxation.... we had a hard time making ourselves get up to leave. You feel like you're on a neighbors' deck. No doubt I will return to the Well! most awesome experience.

Visited The Well last night for a co-worker's last Happy Hour. I must say it's got good atmosphere. The HH prices are pretty good. I like the fact they have a deck but also that they can open the place up with huge windows or doors in front and side to create an open air venue. The food everyone else was ordering looked pretty good (bar food) so we tried a few things on the dinner menu. The fish taco's were pretty good - 3 of them and they are a decent size so I could have shared this. I thought the fish was grilled but it came deep fried (which I don't eat deep fried) but the fish portion wasn't overwhelming in size so it was ok and still delicious. I thought the chips were going to be like a homemade potato chip but they were tortilla chips. That was my fault for not asking but when the option is French fries or chips....I just assumed. Shame on me. Next time I will ask more questions. Hubby had the buffalo chicken wrap and he said it was good as well. We would visit again if in the area.

Customer service........I must retract my last review. Shortly after leaving a bad review for this place the manager contacted me and invited my entire crew back for lunch with the explanation of why they have a no sleeve dress code. Had a great meal and great experience and returning the next day for lunch again. Thank you for great customer service.

If you are looking for Sunday brunch This is honestly the VERY best brunch buffet i have had in Kansas City. It easily beats any casino or any golden corral-esqe buffet as far as quality and taste. The Well may lack in breath (there was not much fresh fruit and veg selection) but the taste of EVERYTHING was amazing. Usually at a buffet you take a lot of stuff, but 1/2 of it is gross, or doesn't taste right, or is stale. This place's food was hot and fresh. There was a start of breads and muffins... croissants, monkey bread, and a couple types of coffee cake with 4 jellies to choose from. Some great biscuits and gravy followed. I am usually a HUGE fan of this Midwestern delight stick to your ribs home food, and the Well's version did not disappoint. The gravy was slight spicy, and the perfect consistency. the biscuits were fluffy, and broke in half easily. They not only had bacon, the same sausage that gave the gravy that great flavor and ham, but there was also fresh fried chicken and ribs (with 3 sauces to choose from for the chicken and the ribs). They had seafood pasta, 2 types of potatoes, and fluffy eggs. There was also a vegetable medley. The ribs were amazing. I also really suggest the pasta, though it cold be a tad spicy for some. Their omelet maker knew what he was doing.....a smoked shrimp and salmon omelets with feta? yes please! They also had sharp Wisconsin cheddar among the usual fare. Mushrooms, spinach, you name it you could pretty much have it in the omelets. Nearby there was Belgium waffles with bananas foster sauces, warm strawberry sauce, and your basic maple as well as whipped cream and butter. They had amazing panna cotta, great bread pudding and delicate lemon bars. I found the brownies a bit much. There was also some fresh fruit and cole slaw, as well as pickles and olives on ice. They also offered yogurt and granola. we dont drink but there was a bloody mary bar as well as mimosas for those that partake. Also a shout out to the staff there. our waitress was super attentive, and dealt with our very large rotating table of 7-12 well. The ONLY downsides would be 1. lack of veggies. and 2. the croissants and danish were just average. EVERYTHING else was amazing, and i will be back.

It might get better, but I doubt it. Overcrowded... especially in summer. Too loud. Guys trolling for girls... pathetic. More like trolling for an STD. One should not drink and... well... you know. I have tried the food and I never will. Who would eat where you can't even hear? It would have received only 1 star, but it gets 2 for "el nido," or the rooftop nest that is nice. But that may collapse under the weight of the BS you have to swim through to even GET there.

The indoor space is nice, but nothing I haven't seen before in a bar. The upstairs outdoor patio, however, is what really sets The Well apart. While it can get a bit crowded on the weekend, the outdoor patio is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful day or night. The "tiki"-ish torches around the outside railing and the fire pits in the middle of some of the tables really set the mood (just don't fall into them after you've had a few!) The music is loud and the patrons are...well....interesting, but our waitress was very nice and the people watching was superb. Check in using the Yelp app and you get a free spinach dip!

Cover charge--for a DJ?! No thanks. We've been before for a private party and it was fine, but we passed when we tried to return and were charged for a DJ. Not worth it. Go to tanners.

After hearing from management, went in with my sister for lunch last week. Had the slider burgers, much improved, fries were the same but were better complements to this meal. The sliders though were very good, onions cooked perfectly on them and enjoyed the freshness of the bun. Really nice return visit!

Although this place is just around the corner from my house I generally try to avoid it from a bar perspective. Their drinks seem overpriced and I am not a huge fan of the crowd that hang out at a place like this. The one saving grace in my opinion here is the food. Especially their Sunday brunch buffet. It is one of the best I have ever had.

Nice venue for Happy Hour - particularly for rooftop! There are great specials PLUS, if you are lucky, you can snag a fire pit that gets lit up after dark! Be warned though, your napkins/ appetizers may just light on fire!

We were looking for lunch close to my sisters house in old Leawood. I had heard great things about the hamburger here, so we decided to give it a shot. I am never in Waldo and apparently I am missing out. We walked in and they had a buffet going on for $13.99. I am normally not a big buffet fan, but I have to say it looked pretty good. There was standard buffet fair like chicken fingers, eggs, waffles, bacon and sausage. But, there was also mashed red potatoes, sauteed chicken, bread pudding and freshly made sugared donuts. We decided to order off the menu. My hamburger was amazing. I have to say I totally disagree with the assessment that the Well serves typical bar food. If anything this place does food better then a lot of popular restaurants around town. There is a thoughtfulness to the preparations, like the toasted egg bun, the small side of grilled onions for your hamburger, the sweet pepper bacon on your sandwich, the warm pita bread with your salad. Even desserts are elevated above bar food. Items like freshly fried doughnut holes that are shaken with cinnamon sugar at your table are anything but typical. The chef is taking special care back in the kitchen and it is obvious. The interior is typical bar with all the flat-screens, high tops and wood floor. What unique is the great wood deck they have added on the upper level, which is closed over the winter. I can imagine the Well only gets better with a fresh air view from the upper deck.. I will be back!

My boyfriend and I went to The Well on a Friday around 730 and the place was already packed. We went with a large group (about 14 or 15 people) and our waitress was great-- very friendly and not at all phased by the somewhat rowdy group taking up four tables. Drinks: They had a HUGE selection of beers and cocktails. My cocktail was not what I was expecting so I'm not sure if I disliked it because of that or if it just wasn't very good but they had plenty of others that looked amazing and other members of my party seemed to enjoy. As far as beer went it was good that they had a large selection because it seemed that anything anyone at my table wanted to try they were out of. That being said, the beer people did end up with was great. Food: Our food came quickly (especially for such a large party) and in very large portions. My chicken sandwich (the Metro Chicken Sandwich, I think) was HUGE, overlapping the sides of the delicious egg roll. The boyfriend's buffalo chicken salad was amaaaaazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes buffalo chicken. Also, the fries were fantastic! Decor: I'm a sucked for a dark lit, small bar type atmosphere. It's certainly nothing fancy but was great for a low-key night out. They have a lot of outdoor seating that looked like it would be very enjoyable had the weather cooperated better. Overall: I left very satisfied with my Well experience and definitely plan to come back and try it out again.

I stumbled in around 11:30 pm, pissed in meanings applicable on both sides of The Pond. This was the last stop on my buddy's birthday pub crawl, and he was about to meet a special someone around midnight. I was just keeping him company until she arrived---and what better to do that with than a half-off specialty drink. Apparently, on Tuesday night, specialty drinks are half price. That's right, I had two hand-made mojitos (a little heavy on the simple syrup) for $6 total. And I don't even drink mojitos----but from my quick read of the menu, it looked to be the only option that didn't feature pink, blue or orange. I chased the mojitios with some Jimmy Johns. God bless Wornall.

It's times like these where I wish half stars were available on Yelp. I can't bring myself to say that I'm a fan of The Well. Only because it's not on the top of my list of places to go when I'm hongray. But I've recommended it before, I do love the ambience and if I end up there, I'm not ticked off about it. Regardless, I've given the place another go or two. My most notable try was the fish and chips ... they were really tasty. The fish needed a few shakes of salt, but then again I'd probably salt a plate of salt lick, so take that tip for what its worth. I really do love sitting on the rooftop on a nice day, and the beer selection always has me pleased. I've come to really appreciate The Well's menu versatility, so I do consider it when I have no idea what I'm in the mood for. I've bumped my rating up a star, but keep in mind that it'd be 3.5 if I had all the power of the Yelp Star Ratings in my hand.

My husband and I stumbled upon The Well tonight on our date night. What a nice find! We will be back with friends and will try the upstairs patio. I was a tad put off by how dark it was at the table, we could hardly read the menu. But we squinted through and ordered the salmon dip to start along with tomato Basil soup and new England clam chowder. The salmon dip was awesome but the soups were okay. My husband's dad is from New England ...and he knows chowder. I chose chicken fried chicken while hubby went for the grouper special of the day. My chicken was very flavorful and juicy, but the white gravy needed more seasoning because it was bland. Grouper was really good. We will be back!!

Just had lunch here with my wife. The food was pretty bad. She had chili and hated it. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and it was doused heavily in cold buffalo sauce. Maybe I'm wrong, but I expected the chicken to be warm. It was cold. A cold, wet wrap is not good. Our server was fantastic though. Looks like a good place for drinks but keep expectations low for food.

This place is probably one of my favorites in KC. A brunch buffet...with a BAR. Mmmmm. Usually when I hear the word buffet it's like "OK let's go eat something 'decent'. But this is not your regular buffet. We went here with my boyfriend, and another fab couple and it's just a whole variety of all you can eat awesomeness. Fresh fruit, yummy omelettes, perfect waffles, delish creme brulee- just a few things this buffet has to offer. And the bananas foster syrup... HOLY MOLY YES I'M GOING IN FOR SECONDS & THIRDS! So YES, I'm totally all about this place. The service was great and it has a great 'non buffet' environment. I definitely plan on becoming a regular at The Well, now that I'm a resident of Kansas City.

This is a bit of a trendy bar, better suited to a younger crowd or for happy hour. I love the roof top area anytime for drinks only but ONLY FOR DRINKS. See the low down on the food and service below. The service is really bad. Always is, every time we have been there and the waitresses are generally rude and incompetent! Parking is always an issue as there is never enough. The food is average - on a good night. Lunch is generally better-so stick to hamburgers and sandwiches. In the summer the A/C is set to freezing, so if you are sitting inside, bring a jacket?? The music is always WAY TOO LOUD, even for a bar on Friday and Saturday nights. Its CLUB sound/audio level??? Too obnoxious for a nice dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. Its a fun bar, but it could be a great restaurant with some work on these issues. Seems like the owner/s have put more into the exterior and finish materials than the most important details: the food and service!

Where am I? A club? A frat party? A sports bar? Nope. I'm at The Well, a really cool bar with an identity crisis. Sure they have the best patio in south KC, but I get the feeling that The Well tries to be too many things to too many people. It's got a great roof top patio, but the music is always blaring. Forget about a good bar for a date. The music level suggests there should be a dance floor somewhere, but there is no dance floor to be found. I had to resort to busting a move on the rooftop patio in a dark isolated corner. Damn shame. During the evening the bar suits me better but I try to head out by 10 before the scene starts to look like The Hills. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool place; I just prefer hearing my wife and friends when we are out bar hopping. Other than that I got no beef with The Well. However, for Tuesday night NBA games it's great except for bad drink specials. I mean there are no beer specials on Tuesdays! Really? WTF guys.

Went there Sat. afternoon to enjoy some tasty Irish Ale on tap and watch KU dismantle Texas on multiple top-notch tv's.. Was not overly crowded and the wait staff was by consistently to check on our group(several kids and adults) to make sure all was good. When the weather is nice, the deck is unbeatable. The owner(Chris, I think) is a relatively low IQ guy but super friendly and he even bought us a round!

If you are looking for a place to grab drinks with friends in the Brookside or Waldo area, The Well is a great place to hang out. It's especially awesome if the weather is nice and you can enjoy the rooftop deck or the back patio. The drinks aren't the strongest drinks I have ever received at a bar but I have had worse. I can't speak about the food, but from what I have been told, it's typical bar food (read: if you are intoxicated, it will taste amazing). The service I have received has always been great; the servers are attentive and strive to keep glasses filled. If you ever attend a Waldo Pub Crawl, you will, no doubt, hit The Well and chances are you won't want to leave. It's a must stop for St. Patrick's Day too! The only negative I will give the bar is the degree of douchebaggery that you will encounter when you are at the bar. Because of the outdoor spaces and good drinks, you will definitely run into a few of "those guys" - so beware.

What I like: 1. They have Magner's on tap!!!! This is the only place I have found in KC with Magner's cider. I'm not even much of a cider person generally, but if I'm going to have it this is what I will drink. 2. Magner's is cheap during happy hours!!! 3. I like the back patio a lot. What I don't like so much: 1. I want to like the rooftop patio, but I find it crowded and intimidating. This is the reason why I pointed out the back patio as something I liked. 2. I have been underwhelmed by most of the food. I had a tomato/basil salad this summer on special that was good, but most other things left something to be desired. The spinach/artichoke dip was especially bland. (To be fair, my husband can't get enough of the Mayor Betty's Chicken Salad.) 3. Friday and Saturday nights the crowd is a little much, but I'm almost out of my 20s and definitely not looking for action outside of the guy I bring with me everywhere.

The food is hit and miss. I've been there several times and about 1/4 of the time I'm happy with the food. The buffalo dip is great. French dip is good, haven't had much else that is notable. Service is average, sometimes poor. Rooftop is great for drinks in the evening when it's not too crowded, otherwise it would probably get 2 stars.

Great food, particularly the burgers. Love the rooftop deck on a sunny fall day.

I agree that the Well serves better than average bar food, I've enjoyed each of my meals there. But the whole rooftop scene is just kind of annoying. I couldn't believe how loud it was under that tent which was not helped any by the horrible deep-voice "modern rock" crap they played overhead. I have encountered worse crowds but these folks are definitely douche-lite. Also, get off my lawn. The servers, of course, are all very young women. Unfortunately, they don't know how to wait tables. I have never had to wait so much in my life to get service, to get a drink, to get the check. It seems that the servers just sort-of tag team the roof while also working tables downstairs. If they get caught down there for a while, you may not see them for 20 minutes. Some folks sat down next to us and waited easily that long to get service, even though they were holding menus (that they fetched themselves from the bar). I like the food, the view, and the drinks are alcoholic but from now on I'll eat inside.

I spent over an hour calling every bar and liqueur store from westport to waldo on Saturday trying to find the ever elusive "chocolate ale". It was at high noon when we got to the well, from ever indication this was the last keg that had already been tapped that wasn't empty (there are a few bars that have some left waiting to tap them this week). We got there just in time, because just 10 min after we got our chocobrew the keg ran out. Yes, it is sad that not everyone that made it to the well that sunny afternoon got their wish, but since I did get it i am stoked on this place. Our bartender (Lindsey) was super cool and friendly and the rest of the staff was smiling and friendly as well. And when we mentioned there was a particular game we wanted to watch they did everything they could to get it on TV. for us. We went for the chocolate ale, and we stayed n drank it 4 on a Saturday afternoon simply because it was relaxing and the staff was nice.

I recently went to the well, I must say I love the upstairs patio. The drink specials are pretty great, appetizers tasty, the one thing that I didn't like was the service; the server was pretty nice, but i rarely saw her and when we wanted to tab out my group had to wait about 20 minutes. It wasn't overly busy either, that is one thing that I don't like is waiting that long to tab out. I would have much rather ordered from the bar. Overall there is a good chance I will go back to give it another shot because it could have been just this once.

The Well has an amazing patio. It is a great after work place. I agree with most the reviews that The Well has an identity crisis. It's a bar that's atmosphere is desperately needing a dance floor. I went their for New Years and it was by far the best NYE place I've attended. The food was great, they had a dance floor down stairs and up on the patio. It's too bad they can't be that bar every weekend. I live in Waldo, and I don't understand the reviews that say the food is good. I would say average and extremely overpriced due to the lack of quality. If you want good bar food, go to Kennedy's around the corner on 75th. My main place that makes me stay away from this bar is they are extremely pushy at close. When the clock says 1am, that is 30 minutes for me to walk the 5 feet to the door. I'm already walking, your bouncer does not, nor should be feel it's okay to push me. Every time I've been there I've been pushed by a bouncer. I've worked in retail, I understand leaving when the place is closed but do not have last call and then start actually pushing me out the door. I've never left that bar later then 1:15 (bar time) , giving them a whole 15 minutes to have everyone out. Go there early, but don't be there are last call.

Strictly speaking for one of those weekend nights where you know you are in it to win it, I love The Well. I went here last night for a friend's birthday and we claimed a spot for large birthday crowd in the back corner of the patio. It was a lovely summer night and the rooftop breeze put everybody in a fabulous mood. It was really crowded as it was a Saturday night, but it somehow didn't feel claustrophobic where you had to fight your way to the bar. I enjoyed that. The drinks were decent and the prices were not that expensive in my opinion. $3.50 for a vodka soda. Sure it's that kind of place where promo girls come around with free shots and glow sticks, but like I said, I was here for a birthday so we were into it. The bartenders were good and pretty attentive considering the hoards of people. The table service wasn't as great, just OK. The music was alarmingly enjoyable. It was like all the decent, non-annoying top 40 type songs from the last five years. Top 40 isn't necessarily my favorite music, but it's the kind of bar where you can appreciate that everyone knows the words. This is a mainstream bar good for serious nights out and party crowds on the weekends. I don't know what it's like on the week days, but if you're in it to win it, you'll win it at The Well.

In a way, I feel sort of bad giving The Well only 3 stars---it really is a nice place and, generally, the service is good. The food is decent, nothing spectacular, and the drinks are fine. I guess. Actually, I take that back. So, if you're ordering beer, it is ok; prices aren't cheap but about what you'd expect. Except for Tank 7. Yes, The Well has Tank 7 on tap, which is a plus. But, it charges $8.50 a pint for Tank 7, which is definitely a negative. Come on, a 750 ml bottle (which contains just under 2 pints) is only $7.50 at the store. And The Well is buying it by the keg. Not sure why they really need a 100%+ markup on it, but there it is, and it definitely qualifies as a party foul. I also ordered a Manhattan here one time and, while made properly, I failed to order a call, so I got the well version. Whatever swill they use as a well bourbon could peel paint. I made it about halfway through before I had to stop to save my stomach lining. It was still cheaper than Tank 7 though. As far as food goes, it is mostly classier bar food. The nachos are tasty and huge, and the chicken strips are decent, if nothing to write home about. The bar itself is huge and has lots of tvs, making it a cool place to catch a game. During the week, it really isn't a bad place to hang out with friends. It is busy but not too busy. Where it gets annoying are after work and weekends when the weather is nice. People pack this place, and then it just gets uncomfortable. Sort of d-bag central on the weekends, but they're an ok bunch. Be aware that parking can be a challenge. With Waldo Pizza and Tanner's next door, the parking lot fills up quickly, as does the street parking. I often end up parking a couple of blocks away in the residential neighborhood, just to get a few after work drinks. It isn't that bad, but be prepared to drive around a bit finding a spot.

Went here to have a few drinks on a friday night. It was perfect. Plenty of huge really nice tvs all over the place. The waitress helped us out just enough inbetween bar runs for shots and whatnot. The place is really nice and very lively. I wasn't here too long, but I'll be back if I am in the area again.

This bar has some serious curb appeal. By that I mean, it is constantly referred to as the "fire bar" by myself and many of my friends because of it's stylish tabletop fire pits and tiki like fire posts. I don't care for the inside so much and it's often crowded with 30somethings hanging out watching whatever is on the large TVs so the roof is my favorite spot. I love, love, love the mojito's here, really best I've had. Just the right amount of sweet and minty, yum! I'm not sure if I would have even spotted the bar without the fire on the roof since it's on a side street in Waldo and if you don't live in the neighborhood you might not pass it otherwise. The lack of parking in Waldo is sort of a pain, but the bar is always lively, the prices aren't terrible and the roof in nice weather is awesome.

Went with some friends on a warm and windy Saturday afternoon, 4/17, to the patio upstairs. Not much of a crowd, but that is fine with me. At night, the place is rocking. Service was prompt, but the kitchen was slow. I had the Chicken Buffalo Dip to start; not much chicken (definitely not chucks of chicken), but the cheese sauce was tasty. My friend started with the wings; they were spicy and above average. Two of us ordered the Metro Chicken Sandwich, wow. Very good and huge portion. The seasoned fries were hot and delicious. My friend had the veggies with his sandwich, and he ate them all. Good boy. My other friend ordered the special (sliders with mashed potatoes and gravy). It looked good, but he could eat the potatoes... and didn't want to comment any further. So I take it wasn't good. The owner was hanging out, the staff was very friendly, and the warm sun on the deck was great. Now in August...it might be a little too warm. They were setting up the plants on the patio for the season. ALSO there is an outdoor pool table.

In the area visiting a friend and we made our way to The Well, which by the way needs to change its name to "The Rooftop Bar" since that is what everyone calls it and when they refer to it as "The Well" no one knows where to go... Anyway, it was a beautiful space and had an amazing Roof Deck and bar upstairs. I loved it here....

I gave this place two chances, just in case the good sandwich I had the first time was a fluke. It seems that it was not a fluke, so I feel safe awarding The Well four stars. Food-wise: I've had the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato and the chicken strips. I've tried bites of the burger, the fish and chips, and the French dip. I would order any of these things again. The grilled cheese is perfect for a day when you're feeling a bit fragile and in need of something that makes you feel twelve again - and really, what's more comforting than a grilled-cheese sandwich with BACON? Nothing - absolutely nothing. The burger is a pretty standard restaurant burger, nothing to rave about, but not bad either. Fish and chips are fatty and delicious, and come with coleslaw. The fruit salad that's offered as a side here was a pleasant surprise - it's grapes, fresh (not canned!) pineapple, and strawberries, instead of the cantaloupe/honeydew mix that usually passes as restaurant fruit salad. The upstairs deck is fantastic, making this my new warm-weather go-to. I'm docking a star for the noise level inside - if you're there for the game that day, you'll be perfectly happy, but it's a bit tough to just chat.

i went to the well last saturday night with a few girlfriends for a late dinner and some drinks. we ordered the shrimp pasta, chicken carbonara and the hummus platter to share, but i think i ended up eating most of the pasta myself! it was great. it had so much shrimp in it - which sometimes just doesn't happen at some places - and both the chicken pasta and the hummus platter were filling for all of us. we asked our waitress for recommendations on cocktails and were pleased with what we got. i ordered the lemon drop martini, and my girlfriends ordered a pomegranate martini and a dirty martini. the cocktails were all filled to the brim and definitely alcoholic. a few of our guy friends/boyfriends joined us after dinner and wanted to know what the beer list looked like. my boyfriend is a huge beer nerd and when the waitress told them about their craft beer list, i swear his eyes dialated. the boys mentioned that it looked like a dj was setting up when they came in, so we went downstairs to see what the dance floor looked like. it was still early, but it was packed. he was playing great dance music and we had a great time before going back up to the roof. overall, we had a great time. our waitress was friendly and handled our crowd plus a few other tables with ease - even when the roof got busy. i loved the roof patio and i would definitely hang out there again. there were fire pits - not lit of course! - so i'm excited to spend some time up there in the fall.

If you want service here, be a 25-30yr old d-bag, I guess. I read the reviews of this place before going and all said the service was good. Now, I don't expect much from a sports bar when it comes to the wait staff, but when you combine the "may not even be old enough to drink" girls in buttcheek showing shorts and knee high socks.... All huddle together twirling hair and talking amongst themselves.....and not staying on top of thier tables....I tend to get a little steamed. I guess everyone has to make a living, so I will just say thier service needs help. Contrary to other reviews, I found the food on the Sunday brunch quite tasty! Made to order omelets ( I suggest the smoked salmon, green onion, feta, spinach) and waffles! The waffle topping are not the norm (grad marnier strawberry and banana foster....mmmmm) make it quite tasty! The shrimp salad frim the cold bar was quite good too. Other standard buffet fare to be found as well. I thought 14 was a little high for the buffet, at the time, but in retrospect.... It's right on the money. I'll be back here for lunch to give the servers a chance to redeem themselves...and I hope they do! It seemed like a good spot to kick back and relax.

My favorite patio around! When those torches are all lit on the roof patio and they got some good music playing on a nice summer night... there's nothing better. I love their daily specials, my days off are Mon/Tues and they have half off craft beer bottles on Mon and half off bottles of wine and their designer drinks on Tues.! That's besides their regular happy hour. Food is great too, I love this bar!!!

(4)SB B.

(4)Billie H.

(4)Sam A.
The Well is one of the better bar and grills in KC. The food seems to be hand made and the portions are LARGE. Sometimes it would be nice to have a smaller portion. When the weather is nice, eating on the rooftop is a must. Good food and sunshine on your face is always a good thing.
(4)Jeff M.
Had the tacos on special and 2 beers, bill was $30..........I thought the tacos were on special, $14.99 for three street tacos and a couple chips and salsa doesn't sound like a special. Won't be back
(1)Bill B.
(4)Jason W.
(5)Kat C.
After bad service the first time, the second time was better. Had a great server, and a good chicken sandwich with my friend. Drinks were good. Will return
(5)Cristi S.
(3)Ajayi A.
I should have just picked a dumpster to eat at. It would have probably been better than the well. Very rude customer service and a bug in my orange juice. Oh and don't sit outside for the life of you. I wish I could give it no stars because it's not worth the star.
(1)Alex T.
(2)Ms F.
We haven't eaten lunch or dinner there, but great brunch buffet at great price.
(5)Jennifer H.
Katelin is amazing! Order tuna wraps and ask for Katelin. Sit on the roof and enjoy :-)
(4)Jason L.
(4)Lisa P.
(4)Jillian C.

(4)Cathy C.

The good and drinks are solid, but service is absolutely awful. The girls are nice, but incredibly slow.
(2)Angela D.

(4)Melissa S.
(2)Fernando R.
2 floors, more TV's than I have ever seen in one place. They also have an upper deck with fire pits. Awesome for any sports fan. The staff makes sure that you're well taken care of. Excellent food, huge selection of both food and drinks. It's a place where you can come by more than once a week.
(5)Paul L.

(4)A N.
It was really good and a fun experience to sit on the roof. We weren't too impressed with the wings as an appetizer. However both of our main dishes were very good. We were pleased with our overall experience here.
(4)Khalil B.
Stopped in to kill some time around 4:00 on a Thursday. Staff didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in. We sat ourselves and waited to be greeted for about five minutes. No luck! So we went to Tanners. Step up your game during slow times! Bush League!
(1)Stephanie P.

(1)Susan C.

Roof top awesomeness. The open faved pot rost sandwiych was grwat. My freind had the french dip. The ouju was salty. But in a good kinda way. Mine was perfact. Our waitresses was atentive but not invasive. It was all around great

(4)Jeff W.
Had great meal with my wife here at The Well last nite. Our server Angie went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience.
(4)Pat B.
Great specials and roomy and airy atmosphere! There is a variety of food to choose from on the menus and the staff is is always welcoming and friendly!
(5)Adam S.
(4)Holly H.
It's okay. My friend picked this one. I'm not much of a "bar" person. The standard I'm looking for is cleanliness. And it was clean.
(3)Jenny L.
(2)Megan H.
Short and sweet.... Hands down the best Fish Tacos I have had to eat. Service was good prices were fair no complaints here. However I do not understand the 5 dollar cover on the weekends for no reason what so ever. The waitress couldn't even tell me what it was for, anyone?
(4)Dennis P.

(3)Tim M.
(2)Derek V.
I enjoy going to the Well and being able to spend time on the rooftop patio which is pretty chill. The area downstairs is great if you're looking for more of a party atmosphere since there is a DJ and dance floor. There is a cover after 9.
(5)Carrie C.

(3)Julia F.
(1)Sherrie S.
Went for Sunday Brunch was not impressed. Not a wide selection of food. Very limited breakfast items. Table was sticky w/syrup, service was just ok.
(2)Jessi H.
i like the well because i don't like sports bars. and the well is a good place to watch sports while drinking wine from their REALLY NICE wine list. it's also a good place to go with my husband who loves sports bars. he can get a beer, watch the game, get excited by the crowd and the other ku fans - all while i sit there dressed in black and gold sipping vino pretending i'm not watching another ku game... but i digress. good drinks. nice, friendly staff. and the upstairs deck is nice when the weather is good. the food is upscale bar food. not amazing. but not horrible. we usually split some sort of appetizer and then go have dinner somewhere else later.
(3)Annette D.

Great place to go and hang out. The beer seemed cold to me. The food good. The brunch is really good so if you have time on Sunday go!
(4)Jen S.

(2)Angie O.
The food is ok - really need to work on the menu! The decor is great. The black security guy is a loose cannon total power trip beware. Great place to get together with friends to drink beer and watch a game!

(2)Lauren F.

(4)Jared B.
Great patio, great drinks...always packed.
(4)Erik A.
(2)Cristina W.

Went to the Well on Easter Sunday for their brunch...it was great. We will be back! Also great rooftop patio with a great view!

Great ambience food was excellent best burger in town, caring staff who could ask for more!!!!!!

Really? WTF guys.
(3)David O.
(5)Kris S.
(3)Carrie B.
(3)Aaron C.
(3)Joe H.
Great food, particularly the burgers. Love the rooftop deck on a sunny fall day.
(3)Dave L.

(4)Amanda F.
(3)Jenn M.
(2)Farah A.
(4)Justin D.
(3)Cory M.
Such a great place for a business lunch. Good customer service and I've never had a bad meal here. Love the wraps.
(4)Cory K.
Great brunch! Lunch and dinner I would say is just average.
(5)David P.
(4)Amanda J.
(3)Sean L.
(3)JC W.
(4)Tony M.
Whether you just want drinks with some friends on their beautiful rooftop patio or you want some quality bar food at a reasonable price, you really can't go wrong with the well.
(4)Jill M.
Our service from Tiffany was superb, so ask for her if she is working. And the new salmon with flat bread appetizer is da bomb!
(4)Erin J.
