OK....here goes nothing. My wife, 4 year old child, and myself visited Sol Cantina a couple of weeks ago EARLY at 6pm on a Saturday evening. We had heard that they had some nice outdoor seating and it was a beautiful evening (and daddy wanted a beer). We walked into the restaurant where we were never greeted. There was one bartender and one patron sitting at the bar. We walked past and asked if we could sit outside...the bartender pointed the direction. We got out to the patio....there were 5....yes...count them 5 waitresses sitting around a bartop table talking. There were about 5-6 tables of diners sitting out there. We waited near a bartop table to be greeted....they looked at us....stared at us even....but never got up to greet or assist. It was astounding. I walked over and asked if they could clean off the table.....she seemed SO inconvenienced. When done wiping the table I asked if she could dry the seats (it had rained earlier that day and there was about 1/2 cup of water on each chair....and I thought she seemed inconvenienced before! We sat down....wife said....F**k this place no way are we staying here and dealing with this! Now I know why I married her!!!....she was SOOO right. The waitresses could see us getting into our car (parking lot is next to the patio area) and they just smiled. This place may serve as a drinking spot for a later night crowd....but they sure as hell won't survive on serving food to diners. I have no idea what their food is like....but I would chalk this up as one of the most frustrating dining attempts of my year. I would NEVER attempt to eat here again. NOT a kid friendly place. Inattentive (to say the least) staff. This place is a recipe for failure.

Super cute bar, it is an old converted garage. Atmosphere is great. Open patio on a perfect day like today 72 degrees and sunny. Garage doors open and nice air flow going. There is great background music playing, which gives it that Island bar feeling very reminiscent of the Bahamas or Mexico. There is a smaller bar on the patio. $3.75 for Margarita's and they were ok, the drinks could have been bigger and they were served in plastic cups ala college style. I had the strawberry ones and they were stronger than I thought they would be. Not water down for sure. I was buzzing off of one, yet I ordered another one. I ordered the blue lump crab cakes for $4.99. Waitress was awesome checked to make sure no dairy in them. They were surprising good, considering the waitress told me they were imitation crab and vegetables mashed together with breading. I thought as small as they were I should have had a 3rd one for $5.00. Pretty decent Happy Hour, I could see it getting crowded as happy hour wound down. I imagine as it gets busy it would be hard to find a table or get service if it became full. If in the area again I would stop in and get a drink.

Ended up here after a somewhat disappointing happy hour experience at P&L. The outdoor patio with the lights was quite pretty and relaxing for a not too crowded and warm Friday evening. We easily got seating and had a quesadilla and dip that were just okay. The crowd here was quite diverse and, for the most part, friendly and fun. DJ seemed kind of full of himself, however, and brushed my friend off when she went up to request a song. The music fluctuated from top 40s sort of stuff to dubstep/house and then to older hip hop jams... I wasn't too much of a fan (I thought the transitions were kind of whack) but my friend from Germany said that the DJ could have easily fit in at a club in Berlin. Depends on your taste I suppose. Anyway, I plan to come back on a Sat to see what the music and scene's like on a busier day, hopefully update then!

So maybe I'm giving this a one star review because I came here around 11 PM on a Saturday night, or maybe it's because Sol just isn't what I was expecting. Either way, I definitely wasn't impressed. I went to Sol with some friends for a birthday party, hoping to have a couple of drinks and relax on the patio. Well, as it turned out, in the hour and a half I was at Sol, I was only able to obtain one drink and I spent at least a half hour trying to find a table. The inside and outside were completely packed with muscle-bound, douchebaggy types of people. At one point, I was trying to help my friend who was rather tipsy navigate her way to our table. I grabbed her hand and was trying to get her through the crowd. Some barely 21-year-old idiot looks at us and asks "are you gonna kiss?" SERIOUSLY?! In fact, Sol was so crowded, that one of the servers was actually ducking and going under the tables in order to get where she was going. I thought I saw something strange out of the corner of my eye... sure enough, out pops a server. Interesting! In addition, our table had a deceptive slant, which sent my glass sliding off onto the ground. I felt like we were somewhere between a muscle beach and a freak show. I've heard the food here is good, but I'm definitely not going back any time during "party" hours. If I want to be stuck in a crowd of douche bags, I'd at least better be able to get a drink. Since it was virtually impossible to navigate to the bar area, I think I'll skip and go elsewhere next time.

Hooray for this bar! I'm happy that I have a bar in Kansas City that I felt at home at. Patios are a huge draw in Denver and I was reminded of being at home. The late night happy hour has great prices on appetizers. Our waitress was a little slow but she was also navigating the crowd that was just there for drinks.

I like CMYE cause they give me a chance to try that one place I've always wanted to try. When I go to the Cowtown Mallroom, I'm a block from this location. The building is across the street from the Drop. The architecture resembles a run down, almost nonexistent emptiness that kind of echoes the West Bottoms, with weird energies surrounding. So that is Martini Row on 31st near Linwood. Odd area that it is. Sol Cantina serves Tex-Mex, fresh, food, (for the most part.). It's down to earth, and holds no presumptive, over priced menu. It is Tex-Mex and there's lot's of cheese, and dairy involved. I should be more anti-dairy, if I were, this would get 3 stars. Lot's of cheese sauce, and other sauce, and I saw they didn't get every single person's non dairy order correctly. Also, I'm pretty sure the crab in the crab cakes is imitation crab, but for the price, shouldn't be. But there may be flaws. Watch the waitress, they don't write down their orders, plus, I was concerned cause they kept my card the entire time I was there, for a small tab. I ordered the lavacado rolls, and was very pleased. I received 2 lavacado rolls, cut in half, with a cheese type of chipolte sauce. They were good, and looked fair. As for my friend's nachos, they provide a full plate, completely covering the plate with chips, cheese, fresh salsa. A bit spicy but that is within keeping of the menu. I ordered a raspberry margarita. I don't like throw away cups. It was presented pretty, but in a cup that I recall seeing at a tiki bar on the beach in South Padre. This is not a beach, nor a take-out margarita. I could squeeze the cup. They are not mixed, but squirted into the cheap plastic throw away glass. It was strong as hell. I could feel the tequila rush all the way home and beyond. But there aren't many drink choices on their happy hour menu. As for building design, there are garage type wide windows, which were completely open in the front. The back area was nearly open air. Damn high chairs, everywhere. I couldn't adjust the chair, nor could I easily get out of the chair. It also seemed very loud, not among our group, but among the building walls. But, I like the architecture and sort of emptiness of the area. I do like Tex-Mex, and I might be back for more menu selections, as I like this area. I'm adding this to my list to not take your card my entire visit, cause that is how they do the tabs. I was concerned cause they held my card, (which was a small tab,) and I'd have paid it with my card before leaving.

Sol is a great place to go if you want to party into the night. I have only been there a few times, usually on weekend night, and it's a lot fun. I have never tried their food, but I definitely like the atmosphere. I went last summer and they definitely have one of the best patios in town. We didn't have a server, so I can't really say much about that, but the bartenders were really quick. Everything is really cheap too. Not like college party cheap, but definitely affordable. It's not like you have to fork over $100 to have a good time there. Excited for this summer!

Worst service I've had in Kansas City in a while. The server did not know the specials. She told me there were no specials even though they were clearly listed on the menu. Instead of admitting her mistake, she lied about it and said they would honor the special prices even though they were not valid. When I asked another server at Sol if they had specials, they quickly said Yes. The service was slow and my ticket was wrong. I was charged $3 extra to have coke with my rum. It is my understanding that a mixed drink involves the soda and alcohol. I will not be going back here to watch a ball game.

I've been in love with this place for a long time...then I finally went. I have driven by since this place has opened and thought what a nice place it looks like, people look like they enjoy themselves...I've never gone. This week a friend wanted to go around 10 pm. I got there and was able to park immediately. I beat her there by a few minutes and just stood outside for her to arrive. The doormen (for lack of better term) were pretty douchey...they spent most of their time trash talking the customers after they went inside. My friend arrived and we headed in. She went to the bar and got a drink. I stood right next to her. She got her drink and the bartender walked over to watch TV. I guess he didn't want me there... I'm not sure. Finally after a good 2 minutes he decided that he'd let me order a drink. The drink was $5...it was supposed to be rum & coke. It was definitely coke, I'm not sure if there was rum in it. Do they ever wash the tables in this place? It was not busy when we got there and maybe they'd had a busy happy hour, but c'mon, I don't want to stick to the tables. We tried several tables and they all were pretty gross. Another thing I didn't like is that every table is a tall, barstool table. You should at least offer one or two tables with regular chairs. I don't understand the need to sit on a wobbly barstool and it's not like your furniture matched anyway. There was a couch in the smokers' tent, but it was like sitting on the floor it was so low. Plus, it was outside...the heaters helped, but I was there to see a band, not sit in a tent in the back lot. As far as I'm concerned at this point, I don't care if I ever go back.

This place has an awesome happy hour, great outdoor seating and giant Jenga! That's kinda where it ends - they $1 tacos are good for the money, but I wouldn't spend much more for their regular menu. I've had a few different items, but none of them really hit the spot. Although the food's not great, Sol is an awesome place for happy hour or drinks with a group. The outdoor seating is great and the games are fun, we'll definitely continue to go to Sol.

Sol Cantina in Martini Corner is a fun place to grab and drink and bury your face in some delicious cheese dip. Every time I have gone to Sol Cantina, two things have happened; one, I see dozens upon dozens of attractive woman, and I end the night with a bowl of their amazingly yummy queso dip and chips. Sol Cantina has a center bar with access from all sides, accompanied by numerous high-top bar tables to seat a decent crowd. It you travel to the back, you will find a spacious patio with a full center bar out there as well. There is seating at and around the patio bar as well. During the warm months the back patio at Sol Cantina is a great place to relax, socialize, dine or even hammer a few tequila shots if that's what you're in the mood for. Just be aware, the drinks are a little more expensive than those in Westport or the Plaza.

This place annoyed me. I like the atmosphere of the place and there was a cool crowd, but....I was still annoyed. Since I don't drink beer, I'm all for the girlie drinks. I asked for a strawberry daiquiri which is what I usually start out with. They don't have strawberry diaquiris. I asked for a Dr. Pepper while I chose another drink. They don't have Dr. Pepper; they only have Coke and Sprite. After sulking for awhile I ordered a Pina Colada. It was so strong it made up for the loss of Dr. Pepper. The food was also really good, and half price during Happy Hour. I got over my annoyance until it was time to settle and leave. My total was $11 something and I paid with a $20. The waitress looked at my bill and said "Do you want change?" First off, I can't stand it when wait staff just assume you will tip them; that's always been a pet peeve of mine. But an $8 tip?? Then when she did bring my change, she brought me the $8 but shorted me about fifty cents. Okay, fifty cents isn't THAT big of a deal, but all of it together just rubbed me the wrong way.

"Meh. I've experienced better" pretty much sums this joint up. Had the fish tacos (since everyone raves about them...) grilled mahi-mahi - not fried - with chips & queso. Chips were kind of stale, queso got that icky skin on top, fish was lukewarm (I prefer it hot with cool toppings) and not much flavor to the sauce or taco as a whole. Servers barely talked to us - I'm sure they get better tips flirting with male patrons rather than 3 business women. For $12, I can get a doubled portion at Cancun and be waaaaay more satisfied. Won't go back.

Came here for the Luau and to enjoy some $3 Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka concoctions. The crowd was in full effect upon arrival, which made getting a drink a little tricky. Luckily, I recognized a bartender and she was able to assist me. I got us three Sweet Tea/Lemonades and proceeded to find some breathing room, which we found a few feet from the "dance floor". DJ Shaun Duval was in house mixing some smooth soundin' beats for the crowd. In my opinion, DJ SD has got some electric beats and skills. I wouldn't go here to dance but there was a small informal dancing area should you feel the need to get low. The layout of this bar is damn cool, with the inside opening up to the outside. It definitely has a true cantina feel to it...Although, if you get bothered by smoking - don't go here. It seems over half of the patrons were lighting it up. Definitely not my liking at all, but tolerable for me. This place neither made me wanting to come back again, nor leave. So I give a bleh 3 stars.

I've gone here for happy hour a couple of times. The food is alright, and the women who have been working the bar when I've been always had a scowl on their face. When my margarita cup is empty, I'll place it on the bar mat in front of me to signal that I'd like another or something of the sorts... sometimes it's ignored, sometimes it is thrown away without acknowledgment, sometimes I'm asked if I want another. I only go here when my happy hour companion suggests it.

Sol...you are starting to lose me! your servers have to be the worst ever! Went a few weeks ago, the service was awful but I overlooked it because really, it's not the servers fault the manager only scheduled 2 on a day where it would be packed (80 degree AND taco tuesday). Last night was ridic! They have $1 tacos and $1 tecates! yay! so you would think, right. so....I ordered 3 tacos, Waitress: "chicken or beef? Me: "chicken please" .. right.. well when the bill comes the chicken tacos are full price. Which, would have been a problem the waitress had said..by the way, the chicken tacos aren't on special, on the beef ones.. FAIL! As well, I decided to go for a red bull vodka, knowing that it was going to be a late one! Waitress: "what kind of vodka would you like?" Me: " absolut, smirnoff, skyy, which ever one of those you have, not your rail. cool, right? When I get my bill she has rung it as grey goose, I don't mind paying the extra dollar but it wasn't what i asked for. I get you may want to pad the bill with over-priced, over advertised, crappy vodka. however, i have worked in this business too long, it just pisses me off and makes me want to tip you even less because apparently you don't listen! FAIL! 2 fails do not make a right. I did like the tacos. I always do, cilantro good, onions good, corn tortillas...GOOD!! I tried some of the other food at the table, all solid. but the service is abysmal!

I want to give this bar more stars...but I just can't bring myself to do it. Sol is a typical "I just graduated from college, but I still think I'm in college" college bar with a slightly eccentric mix of people (more fratastic than not). If you go for dinner and drinks early on in the evening, the food is good and the scene is more of a young professional crowd. As for the food, it's definitely not your authentic Mexican dishes, but the fish tacos are pretty badass. The nachos, on the other hand, are terrible and a waste of money. I do really like Sol though and always have a good time there. The patio is pretty awesome and it's a good scene to meet other people and actually have a conversation (not shout into each other's ears over the music like other bars force you to do). However, like most fun bars who serve tons of people, the waitstaff/bartenders are no good. I've had one or two servers who were definitely attentive to me and my group, but other than those specific girls, the majority of the people who work there are somewhat clueless. Nonetheless, I will still continue to go to Sol Cantina, bring big groups of friends and attempt to relive the glory days of college.

I'm going to miss this place...seriously with all of my heart!! Please understand that I have pretty much grown up at this bar. I turned 21 here (I'm going on 25 now)... I've spent so many fun parties and good times here, I have to give it 5 stars. If (and IF) you go during happy hour (which is plentiful and includes a noon to 6 SATURDAY time, which think is much more than you could ever ask for...), the place is super affordable. If not, its over-priced easily. Seriously, only order off the HH menu at HH times and you will rate this place it's due 5 stars! If you want authentic Mexican, go elsewhere. That being said, this place has an excellent Mexican beer selection at reduced prices at all times...Oh Sol :) Get the Muchos Nachos if you want a deal, it fills a GIANT platter. The Quesadilla is great as well, I prefer the Shrimpadilla cause they have not yet skimped me on the shrimp! Service sometimes leaves something to be desired, but really... what can you expect from a place is is often jam packed?? Just make sure the waitress understands how the tab goes ahead of time and be pre-emptive in drink ordering if it is crowded... I mean COME ON... its a college bar, so if you expect to be treated special, you have to be a little delusional... Any time there has been a mistake made on my tab, it has been taken care of super quickly and easily with many apologies. That being said, we have had MANY MANY (x100) waitresses that have treated me and my friends amazingly and all I can say is.... There is something to be said for being a regular. Its awesome... and you can BET that I will be back at Sol the next time I'm in KC.

Seemed like a good enough bar. I went here for a friends birthday party last weekend and ended up having a good time. Only one thing kinda irked me, when we arrived there it wasn't hardly busy at all despite being around 10:45ish but there was still a $5 cover for guys. But overall I would say it is a decent spot to have drinks, especially if you love mexican beer like XX, Pacifico, & Corona.

Also got the crabcakes, and they weren't bad for $5. We left with a $20 tab that included 2 margaritas. Had many great happy hours here as well as celebrated a great birthday. Where do I begin? As one of the best places on "Martini Corner" in Kansas City, Sol Cantina is for the people who want to have fun in life. It is for those of us who don't take ourselves too serious with our wine and martinis and cheese plates. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of the above, but I love this place for the chance to completely unwind! The happy hour menu is awesome. I love the nachos, cheese dip and quesadilias. My favorite is the margarita. They are strong, flavorful and inexpensive. Perfect for the kick off of a great night! When it's warm outside, the doors of this converted auto body shop roll up to let in the summer evening breeze and the crowds. The dj spins out on the patio for dancing and drinking. Honestly, I love this place. I would buy it if I could. Enough said.

I've never been to Sol for the late night bar scene. I come for happy hour, typically during lunch. I always order the same thing: margaritas and nachos to start followed up with the fish tacos. Fish tacos...that is why I come here. So, so, so good. They have different varieties both breaded and unbreaded. I prefer the unbreaded version, but both tickle the tastebuds. This is a destination for me and the fam, but well worth the 10 minute drive from B-side for me and 20 minute drive for my bro from the Northland.
Sol is what it is... A meeting place for scantily clad 20 somethings. I was there for a friendss bday party. I had to get all my own drinks because the mostly absent waitress only attended to the males in our group..,tsk, tsk. I had a good time, regardless.... Due in large part to those drunk 20 somethings because I had someone to dance with. If this place loses the crowd, they have nothing to offer.

I am giving Sol Cantina a 4 star. I have been there twice now, the first time was awesome but the second was terrible. We sat at the bar the first time. We got served right away, had our drinks filled promptly and even better the food was awesome! The second time wasn't so great. We sat on the patio on a busy Tuesday evening. There was only one waitress and the patio was full. It took forever to get drinks. Even after mentioning that it was taking a while there was little care. We watched one table walk out after setting waiting for 15 minutes for someone to see them. Regardless of the terrible service the food was amazing. The fish tacos were perfect and the burnt end tacos even better. Go for the food not the experience!

The manager on duty on Friday, January 16, was the worst manager I have ever encountered! For some reason he thought it was appropriate to hold my friends debit card hostage because someone at our table (that we had just met for the first time) left without paying his tab. The manager felt it was my friends responsibility to try to find this person and have him come back to the restaurant and pay. Both me and my friend paid our tab. I even gave the waitress an extra tip because she was trying to do her best and it was very busy. However, we were told by the manager to "get out" of the restaurant because we would not (actually we could not because like I said, we had just met the guy!) contact the person who walked out without paying. To be clear, I believe anyone who has been in a bar has experienced being at table with a group of people and possibly not know everyone at the table, i.e someone's new boyfriend, right? Well, not according to the manager! He seems to believe that everyone who comes into a bar knows everyone that they are sitting with and how to contact them directly. If you don't, then this manager will think you're a liar and will accuse you of such! Horrible managerial skills to treat your PAYING customers in such a manner!!! I will NEVER go back!

I cannot believe this place wasn't better staffed over lunch for Cinco de Mayo. We sat for nearly 20 minutes before a server came to us, after I had gotten up twice to let someone know we were there (very politely too). We watched other tables near us get seated and get their drinks. Finally a girl came over and said "Sorry, there is no one to take care of you guys, but I am going to get your orders" Um, what??? Why would you EVER say that to a table of customers?? Just take us as your table, and maybe NOT make us feel like a burden. Took an hour to get our over-priced sub-par food. Big thumbs down.

Below average food and service. . Our stools were broken in patio and our table top fell off when we say down. The place is debilitated and needs function furniture. Good is truly bland and has no character. Only go for a beer when nearby places are full. More authentic flavorful food nearby at Panchos.

Sol Cantina is Martini Corner's answer for a Mexican resort-themed spot for your inner party girl or frat boy. This place focuses on the party while the food is mainly for decoration. The venue features a large bar down the middle, which can be surrounded, with some tables up by the front windows. Towards the back there are more tables and then a large garage door can be opened to the back deck, complete with an additional bar, for outside seating and standing if needed. The food isn't flashy or complex, but it's not bad for what it is. They have nachos, shrimp tacos and other Americanized Mexican-style recipes. Beerwise they go with some old stand bys: Corona and Dos Equis. They'll get a little help from their American brothers: Miller, Coors and Budweiser. They might serve Boulevard, but truthfully I'm not sure if they do. The main focus is on the party. There's plenty of Fireball, mystery shots and whatever else is in fashion to numb the flashing lights and dj squiggles as the evening marches on. It's not my scene, but that's okay. It looks like they have plenty of customers who come out and enjoy themselves... and hopefully call a cab to take them home.

Went there last night for a bachelor party. Thought we would get a quick bite to eat and go on our way. There were 8 of us. We sat there for 5 min before any recognition. Our server was nice but took each one of our credit cards since we all wanted separate checks. Which was odd. So beware of that. Service stinks! Food came out in random times. 15 to 20 min of each others. Asked the waitress what the deal was and her response was "I have other tables you know?" After close to 2 hours SOME of us got our food. Got our cards back, paid with a managers comp but the 3 dollars didn't keep me from writing this. I am surprised that place is still in business. The end.

Met a friend here for early evening drinks and appetizers. We wanted margaritas and our waitress recommended sangria flavored margaritas. In general I do not like tequila but these margaritas were absolutely delicious. My friend and I agreed these were the best flavored margaritas we had ever had. We also got the salsa, queso and chips. Salsa was good consistency with a good amount of spice but not too much. Chips were paper thin, but good if you like that style. The queso was typical white queso you could find in any Mexican restaurant. Purchased 2 margaritas, half of the chips and salsa, queso, and one beer for $20. No deals, as we visited on a Saturday. Before 7pm there were $2.75 Pacificos usually $4.50.

Came here with a friend after a Yelp Elite event to have some cocktails and a light snack. I was surprised by all the tvs. I didn't realize it was a sports bar. It was taco Tuesday so we had a couple of cheap tacos. They were decent. The chips and salsa was OK too. The margaritas were a little sweet - I had the house margarita. This would be a nice place to come for Happy Hour. The service was good and the food seemed fine and they have good HH prices.

OK, so I've visited this place before but it had been a few years, so we've grown bored of some of our regular places & decided to return. I didn't remember much from our first visit here so I figured that my 1st time wasn't terrible because I would remember that. Walking into the place it isn't obvious what a persons supposed to do,do we seat ourselves or wait for someone to greet us & seat us. This is often a deal breaker for my mate because she doesn't like to look like a fool in public or whatever. I tend to overcompensate for this by taking charge so I decide to seat ourselves because the only employee close is halfway across the room. This turned out to be the correct decision as several regulars came in & did the same. So come in seat yourself at this place. It was mid-day on a Saturday but Sol wasn't particularly crowded, the feel I got was the clientele they were aiming for is more the come in have chips & salsa & drink lots of beer. Normally this kind of idea would appeal to me but the music they had going was all these sad hits from the '90s. So to sit & drink beer, eat chips & salsa, & listen to Huey Lewis & the news attempt at modern music that's ten years old doesn't make me feel fun & alive but more depressed like I'm trying to recapture my youth & just came to the realization that all the music that was popular at the time just plain sucked. So sorry but as long as that kind of music plays there "F" for ambiance. I ordered the Sunset rolls which were basically a southwest egg roll & she ordered the Chicken baja tacos. We both really like what we ordered & the Baja tacos were especially good. The chicken, although having trademark perfect grill marks that looked suspiciously like pre-made reheat meat, was cooked perfectly, tender & moist & seasoned just right. It didn't matter if it was fresh chicken or pre-prepared the cook did an excellent job in preparing our food. The service was just OK, when we placed our order the sever seemed upset we didn't order beers I often find myself thinking in a place like this I'd have gotten much better service if I had ordered alcohol & I find myself resenting it when & don't get a refill of what I am drinking. Which this time I did not, my companion got more tea but my glass got ignored. to sum it all up, we really like the food we ordered but the next song came on & our belly's were full so we got out of there I just didn't feel like listening to The verve pipe sing "we were only freshmen"...

I've been to Sol Cantina numerous times and I'm always on the fence.... There's nothing real "special" about it but I really do like their patio. I've had the nachos, tacos and even chicken salad and all were not too bad. I'd say the nachos and some frosty beers during Happy Hour aren't too bad of a deal. I recently ordered a mixed green salad with their cilantro vinaigrette and chicken for lunch and it was actually fresh. The chicken was the same that they put on their tacos, I would have preferred just a normal griled chicken but it wasn't bad. Another thing that goes into my 3 star rating is the fact that my car was broken into in their parking lot about a year and a half ago and they did nothing to help the situation. Long story short, my back passenger side window was busted out, nothing really taken (I don't keep anything in my car) and was out $200. This was in daylight as well. If they could actually take surveillance and care when crime happens, it would help the cause.

WARNING: There will be woo girls (playing giant jenga probably) and bro types. Come one, come all. Hands down my favorite establishment that Martini Corner offers. Probably because I love their sangria margaritas! I will say the food is okay and their queso tastes a bit funky but the drinks are far more important here.

This is definitely a restaurant for the younger college aged crowd. That being said, I'm a little older and looking for a Better meal and not just cheap drinks. I don't think i I'd go back based on the quality of food. But I do like how they give you a variety of side dish options. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. If you're looking for a loud obnoxious place that serves taco bell style food and has margaritas that taste like they were made with lime KoolAid and Tequilla, then this is the place for you. It is always hopping and they steal parking places from the restaurants across the street, and it is loud and obnoxious and I will never come back ever ever ever, amen.

The service here is not very good. They are not in any hurry and they didn't seem to have enough staff. The food on the other hand was pretty good! The fish tacos and burnt end tacos had the best reviews at our table. The gringa chicken and pork tacos were ok. The chicken was a little dry and the pork just wasn't my favorite. Share the nachos...they are a good appetizer and plenty for everyone. We had the steak on our nachos and it was pretty good.

Service was awful. There was a total of 15 people on a Saturday afternoon and out table contributed to hAlf of the 15. Good came out cold, took 20 minutes to get water, drinks came out wrong. Sol is a solid option for Mexican cuisine in the Martini Corner neighborhood. Food is usually pretty good here. Sol's Famous Fish Tacos are really good, especially with a little avocado slice inside. Service is usually "meh" here. I used to head over here a lot for lunch with mixed results. Honestly, I stopped going because of slow service and sometimes flaky servers. My most recent trip here last week was vastly improved compared to prior trips. I'll give Sol another shot as we dive headfirst into summer and the weather is perfect for their patio dining or sitting by the front open "garage door" window.

I only come here for two reasons: 1) to meet friends who insist we go to Sol and 2) my brain says, what the hell, at least the beer is cheap and the happy hour is long. That about sums it up. I mostly don't like this place. The service is often pretty bad, but it seems better now than it was a few years ago. Back then, the service was often slow and with an attitude. If you're looking for mixed drink specials or real Mexican food, then this is not your place. However, there are a few positives which bump it from 2 to 2.5/3 stars. 1. They have a nice back patio. 2. The happy hour goes from 3-7. Now that's impressive. 3. They have quite a few decent HH food choices like $1.50 tacos and cheap nachos. 4. They have beers, margaritas, and shots on their HH menu. I ask you, how many places have HH shots? I don't really know why people flock to this place, but it is always filling up come 5pm. I assume it's the decent HH for some and the convenient location for hospital hill people. Oh, and they do tend to hire attractive waitresses who only own tiny clothes, so I'm sure folks like that too.

We stopped by here when waiting for a dinner reservation across the street. The large rectangular bar was packed, and so were the tables surrounding the bar. We had margaritas and an appetizer. The margaritas came in small plastic cups, and my favorite was the frozen Red Bull margarita. The appetizer was sub-par; we got the avocado egg rolls. The avocados in the rolls were horribly unripe and crunchy, not to mention brown. Yuck. The spicy ranch was great though! (if only we had something to dip in it!!!) I'd stick to a tiny margarita, or just walk across the street or next door to the next bar!

I don't drink so this review may be irrelevant but I didn't really enjoy the place. My husband and I stopped by for lunch and it was pretty empty besides a rowdy bunch of bros at the bar. The service was fine but the food wasn't that great. The waitress recommended the burnt end tacos and my husband got the Baja tacos. My husband enjoyed his but I couldn't finish mine. Probably won't be going back soon...

Love Sol Catina. They have happy hour everyday from 3pm to 7pm. $3 margaritas and they are delicious. The chicken tacos on happy hour are yummy as well. I believe they are $1.75 per taco, and you have to order two. I always come with my sister and friends, and it's never disappointing :-)

Sol has really great tasting food and an excellent happy hour from 3-7. I come here often, but the service is consistently terrible, especially today; my party had the worst service ever. The waitress was just flat out rude and slow. If it wasn't for the happy hour prices and location, then I would boycott this place for their lack of customer care. The only reason I WILL return is because I like the crowd, the food and, like I said, happy hour, but that service could run them out of business. They would have gotten five stars if it wasn't for their awful, AWFUL service.

I like how Sol is classified as a bar first and Mexican second on Yelp. That about fits it to a T. They are a sports bar (giant flat screens everywhere you look) with "Tex Mex" style menu options (that would make any Texan think otherwise). Reminds me a lot of Caliente Cab Co. in NY, which was a favorite haunt for me as an 18 year old NYU freshman. Positives: -patio festooned with lights is very inviting (there's a bar out there, too). -friendly waitstaff (if a bit absent, though it was busy enough during HH that it wasn't too bad). -insanely cheap HH has both food and drink options (common in KC as we all know). Negatives: -the dried salsa left on the plastic menu is still making me shudder. Keep 'em clean, please! -the appearance of the avocado on the lavacado rolls is slightly horrific. I actually thought it was beef and asked to return it. The food runner informed me that it was avocado and it's brown because "they are made in the morning and then grilled." I really didn't need to know that they are made in the morning. Seriously. Did. Not. They might reconsider that practice and assemble the rest of the wrap in the morning and then add in the avocado before service. A little sprinkle of lime juice and no more brown gooey mess. Ew!!! -not very good for large groups (they kindly accommodated by pushing a bunch of high top round tables together, but these don't work well if you're sitting in between two). If you have an after work group, my suggestion is to just hang around the bar, maybe or hang around a smaller group of tables with some standing room. -my margarita was not mixed very well. Let's just put it this way: despite the very low price and despite the fact that I rarely stop at one margarita, I was not compelled to order a second. I can't blame Sol Cantina for not being my scene, really. I don't like sports bars. I don't like weekend hot spots (I once sat across the street at the Drop and watched many a drunken antic going on here late on a Saturday. No, thanks). Their HH is good, but with so many fabulous HH options in town, I think I'd opt for going elsewhere. The food is not good enough for me to want to eat a later dinner here either. So, a little less than AOK, but the back patio might draw me back in on a nice day.

This place transforms itself depending on the time of day. Been here late night after bar crawling in the martini corner district and place is hopping. Typical bar but not too grimey and not too uppitty. Atmosphere is casual and good mix of people. Come here for happy hour early afternoon and you get a different crowd altogether. Youngish professionals seems to be the scene. Was a little hesitant coming here for food because of the fist pumping energy that happens here at night, but i was pleasantly surprised. The burnt ends quesadillas were on point! Kind of weird seeing it during the day too cuz place looked like Mexico (in a good way). All in all decent place to go chill for happy hour or for making a stop at a bar crawl.

This was located right across from The Drop. I came here to celebrate my coworker's birthday. I arrived around 6pm and it wasn't really busy. A bunch of people were outside with a handful inside. It was happy hour when I was there, too. I took pictures of the happy hour food menu (horrible job too) but didn't take a picture of the drinks menu. Oh well. Happy hour times: Mon-Fri 3-7 & Saturday Noon-6 I ordered from the happy hour menu they gave us. I tried a Pacifico ($2.50) and Muchos Nachos ($3.49) but added steak to it (additional $2.49 or $1.99 more for chicken). The Pacifico was good and it was better than a Corona. That's just my personal opinion. The Muchos Nachos was pretty big and it made me full when I finished the whole thing. I didn't think anything stood out or was amazing. Everything was just okay. One of my coworkers ordered Queso ($1.99) , 3 Chicken Tacos ($1.50 each), and Chips & Salsa ($1.00). The Queso tasted pretty good and I was surprised the amount of cheese wasn't in my Muchos Nachos. Parking was a problem but it depends if you're willing to walk far or not. The parking lot was small and limited. Sol Cantina was okay and got the job done for happy hour.

This Tex-Mex joint was the latest stop for the monthly CMYE. Sol Cantina reminded me of a beach-side frat house. There is a open patio with a bar outside and very high-stooled seats inside with another bar. Big screen TV's are everywhere and there's not a single window in the place; the cool breeze flows through the entire restaurant. This was not fit for our group of 16. I could barely hear the person next to me, let alone the rest of our party. Once I managed to get on that chair, there was no way I was getting down. They have margaritas during Happy Hour; their frozen raspberry margarita is good and strong. It comes pre-mixed and in a plastic cup (again with the frat house feel...) The Happy Hour nachos were actually the best find of the night. This huge platter of chips, cheese, sour cream, and salsa defentiely filled me up. I noticed that the waitresses don't write anything down. Therefore, they only take orders from 2 people at a time. Make sure they know exactly what you need because you won't see them again for awhile. I'd say Sol Cantina is perfect for a Bachlorette party or Guy's Night or some other event where you want to be drunk and loud.

Sol had the best burnt end sandwich I've ever had. Friendly staff and a fun atmosphere. Wish the seating situation was different took my parents and they are older and handicap difficult for them to get onto the high bar stool type seating. Also took my young child under one. Loud for kids and not really intended for a family sitting. Would make a great date night though!

Man, I really dislike this place. I knew I would before I went in, but I have been surprised by places before. Sol was not one of those places. Luckily, we got there before cover kicked in. Apparently, they started charging cover because they had a DJ. Wow...impressive, you have a DJ. I heard said DJ...he was freakin' terrible, and looked like DJ Douchebag. Anyways, I was the designated driver tonight, so I stuck to club soda. I'm always irked when a bar charges the DD for soda. For one, I apologize that I would like to drive safely and not kill anyone. For two, that cup of soda costs you, what, 10 cents? Do me a solid, would ya? No? OK...but don't give me attitude for not drinking. I also ordered a Miller Lite for my fiance, and tipped slightly above standard. No thank you? No? OK. The bartenders here suck. The clientele here sucks. The atmosphere here sucks. I love this place: it's the only place I have found with FRESH, real, homemade salsa and chips. Not the ketchup-version you find at the places along SW blvd. I loved the frozen Margarita's (sans the plastic cup - I'm not 16 on Spring Break-I don't mind paying for a festive glass for my margaritas: I'm over 21 i.e I am an adult and can hold a pretty glass: more on that later!) I had about 5 so I am not sure how great they really were: albeit I FELT great and the 1st one tasted great. Only negative: The atmosphere is only good in that it has high ceilings/open are so you don't feel squashed in when it's busy. That part is modern . But, on the down side: it's reminisced of an 80's chain dinner house in that the staff wears "tight" t-shirts, tacky outfits, etc: you have to go to see what I mean: Like a "Spring Break" look great if you're a high school kid, not so great for DINKS who spend their vacations in Europe. Strange given the highly educated, affluent crowd near the hospital that is close by: I think these Dr's are NOT reminiscing about being in Ft. Lauderdale at this age- it's more like Monaco . Anyway, just strange look for the type of customer in that area. The above being said, the food was Great, fresh, not cheap-filler ingredients. So I will be back! In DC this place would be a 2, because the fact there are so many great fresh tex-mex places there (I am having a REALLY hard time finding fresh in KC) and the Hooter's-esq uniforms -which is so 80's to me

OK....here goes nothing. My wife, 4 year old child, and myself visited Sol Cantina a couple of weeks ago EARLY at 6pm on a Saturday evening. We had heard that they had some nice outdoor seating and it was a beautiful evening (and daddy wanted a beer). We walked into the restaurant where we were never greeted. There was one bartender and one patron sitting at the bar. We walked past and asked if we could sit outside...the bartender pointed the direction. We got out to the patio....there were 5....yes...count them 5 waitresses sitting around a bartop table talking. There were about 5-6 tables of diners sitting out there. We waited near a bartop table to be greeted....they looked at us....stared at us even....but never got up to greet or assist. It was astounding. I walked over and asked if they could clean off the table.....she seemed SO inconvenienced. When done wiping the table I asked if she could dry the seats (it had rained earlier that day and there was about 1/2 cup of water on each chair....and I thought she seemed inconvenienced before! We sat down....wife said....F**k this place no way are we staying here and dealing with this! Now I know why I married her!!!....she was SOOO right. The waitresses could see us getting into our car (parking lot is next to the patio area) and they just smiled. This place may serve as a drinking spot for a later night crowd....but they sure as hell won't survive on serving food to diners. I have no idea what their food is like....but I would chalk this up as one of the most frustrating dining attempts of my year. I would NEVER attempt to eat here again. NOT a kid friendly place. Inattentive (to say the least) staff. This place is a recipe for failure.

Super cute bar, it is an old converted garage. Atmosphere is great. Open patio on a perfect day like today 72 degrees and sunny. Garage doors open and nice air flow going. There is great background music playing, which gives it that Island bar feeling very reminiscent of the Bahamas or Mexico. There is a smaller bar on the patio. $3.75 for Margarita's and they were ok, the drinks could have been bigger and they were served in plastic cups ala college style. I had the strawberry ones and they were stronger than I thought they would be. Not water down for sure. I was buzzing off of one, yet I ordered another one. I ordered the blue lump crab cakes for $4.99. Waitress was awesome checked to make sure no dairy in them. They were surprising good, considering the waitress told me they were imitation crab and vegetables mashed together with breading. I thought as small as they were I should have had a 3rd one for $5.00. Pretty decent Happy Hour, I could see it getting crowded as happy hour wound down. I imagine as it gets busy it would be hard to find a table or get service if it became full. If in the area again I would stop in and get a drink.

Ended up here after a somewhat disappointing happy hour experience at P&L. The outdoor patio with the lights was quite pretty and relaxing for a not too crowded and warm Friday evening. We easily got seating and had a quesadilla and dip that were just okay. The crowd here was quite diverse and, for the most part, friendly and fun. DJ seemed kind of full of himself, however, and brushed my friend off when she went up to request a song. The music fluctuated from top 40s sort of stuff to dubstep/house and then to older hip hop jams... I wasn't too much of a fan (I thought the transitions were kind of whack) but my friend from Germany said that the DJ could have easily fit in at a club in Berlin. Depends on your taste I suppose. Anyway, I plan to come back on a Sat to see what the music and scene's like on a busier day, hopefully update then!

So maybe I'm giving this a one star review because I came here around 11 PM on a Saturday night, or maybe it's because Sol just isn't what I was expecting. Either way, I definitely wasn't impressed. I went to Sol with some friends for a birthday party, hoping to have a couple of drinks and relax on the patio. Well, as it turned out, in the hour and a half I was at Sol, I was only able to obtain one drink and I spent at least a half hour trying to find a table. The inside and outside were completely packed with muscle-bound, douchebaggy types of people. At one point, I was trying to help my friend who was rather tipsy navigate her way to our table. I grabbed her hand and was trying to get her through the crowd. Some barely 21-year-old idiot looks at us and asks "are you gonna kiss?" SERIOUSLY?! In fact, Sol was so crowded, that one of the servers was actually ducking and going under the tables in order to get where she was going. I thought I saw something strange out of the corner of my eye... sure enough, out pops a server. Interesting! In addition, our table had a deceptive slant, which sent my glass sliding off onto the ground. I felt like we were somewhere between a muscle beach and a freak show. I've heard the food here is good, but I'm definitely not going back any time during "party" hours. If I want to be stuck in a crowd of douche bags, I'd at least better be able to get a drink. Since it was virtually impossible to navigate to the bar area, I think I'll skip and go elsewhere next time.

Hooray for this bar! I'm happy that I have a bar in Kansas City that I felt at home at. Patios are a huge draw in Denver and I was reminded of being at home. The late night happy hour has great prices on appetizers. Our waitress was a little slow but she was also navigating the crowd that was just there for drinks.

I like CMYE cause they give me a chance to try that one place I've always wanted to try. When I go to the Cowtown Mallroom, I'm a block from this location. The building is across the street from the Drop. The architecture resembles a run down, almost nonexistent emptiness that kind of echoes the West Bottoms, with weird energies surrounding. So that is Martini Row on 31st near Linwood. Odd area that it is. Sol Cantina serves Tex-Mex, fresh, food, (for the most part.). It's down to earth, and holds no presumptive, over priced menu. It is Tex-Mex and there's lot's of cheese, and dairy involved. I should be more anti-dairy, if I were, this would get 3 stars. Lot's of cheese sauce, and other sauce, and I saw they didn't get every single person's non dairy order correctly. Also, I'm pretty sure the crab in the crab cakes is imitation crab, but for the price, shouldn't be. But there may be flaws. Watch the waitress, they don't write down their orders, plus, I was concerned cause they kept my card the entire time I was there, for a small tab. I ordered the lavacado rolls, and was very pleased. I received 2 lavacado rolls, cut in half, with a cheese type of chipolte sauce. They were good, and looked fair. As for my friend's nachos, they provide a full plate, completely covering the plate with chips, cheese, fresh salsa. A bit spicy but that is within keeping of the menu. I ordered a raspberry margarita. I don't like throw away cups. It was presented pretty, but in a cup that I recall seeing at a tiki bar on the beach in South Padre. This is not a beach, nor a take-out margarita. I could squeeze the cup. They are not mixed, but squirted into the cheap plastic throw away glass. It was strong as hell. I could feel the tequila rush all the way home and beyond. But there aren't many drink choices on their happy hour menu. As for building design, there are garage type wide windows, which were completely open in the front. The back area was nearly open air. Damn high chairs, everywhere. I couldn't adjust the chair, nor could I easily get out of the chair. It also seemed very loud, not among our group, but among the building walls. But, I like the architecture and sort of emptiness of the area. I do like Tex-Mex, and I might be back for more menu selections, as I like this area. I'm adding this to my list to not take your card my entire visit, cause that is how they do the tabs. I was concerned cause they held my card, (which was a small tab,) and I'd have paid it with my card before leaving.

Sol is a great place to go if you want to party into the night. I have only been there a few times, usually on weekend night, and it's a lot fun. I have never tried their food, but I definitely like the atmosphere. I went last summer and they definitely have one of the best patios in town. We didn't have a server, so I can't really say much about that, but the bartenders were really quick. Everything is really cheap too. Not like college party cheap, but definitely affordable. It's not like you have to fork over $100 to have a good time there. Excited for this summer!

Worst service I've had in Kansas City in a while. The server did not know the specials. She told me there were no specials even though they were clearly listed on the menu. Instead of admitting her mistake, she lied about it and said they would honor the special prices even though they were not valid. When I asked another server at Sol if they had specials, they quickly said Yes. The service was slow and my ticket was wrong. I was charged $3 extra to have coke with my rum. It is my understanding that a mixed drink involves the soda and alcohol. I will not be going back here to watch a ball game.

I've been in love with this place for a long time...then I finally went. I have driven by since this place has opened and thought what a nice place it looks like, people look like they enjoy themselves...I've never gone. This week a friend wanted to go around 10 pm. I got there and was able to park immediately. I beat her there by a few minutes and just stood outside for her to arrive. The doormen (for lack of better term) were pretty douchey...they spent most of their time trash talking the customers after they went inside. My friend arrived and we headed in. She went to the bar and got a drink. I stood right next to her. She got her drink and the bartender walked over to watch TV. I guess he didn't want me there... I'm not sure. Finally after a good 2 minutes he decided that he'd let me order a drink. The drink was $5...it was supposed to be rum & coke. It was definitely coke, I'm not sure if there was rum in it. Do they ever wash the tables in this place? It was not busy when we got there and maybe they'd had a busy happy hour, but c'mon, I don't want to stick to the tables. We tried several tables and they all were pretty gross. Another thing I didn't like is that every table is a tall, barstool table. You should at least offer one or two tables with regular chairs. I don't understand the need to sit on a wobbly barstool and it's not like your furniture matched anyway. There was a couch in the smokers' tent, but it was like sitting on the floor it was so low. Plus, it was outside...the heaters helped, but I was there to see a band, not sit in a tent in the back lot. As far as I'm concerned at this point, I don't care if I ever go back.

This place has an awesome happy hour, great outdoor seating and giant Jenga! That's kinda where it ends - they $1 tacos are good for the money, but I wouldn't spend much more for their regular menu. I've had a few different items, but none of them really hit the spot. Although the food's not great, Sol is an awesome place for happy hour or drinks with a group. The outdoor seating is great and the games are fun, we'll definitely continue to go to Sol.

Sol Cantina in Martini Corner is a fun place to grab and drink and bury your face in some delicious cheese dip. Every time I have gone to Sol Cantina, two things have happened; one, I see dozens upon dozens of attractive woman, and I end the night with a bowl of their amazingly yummy queso dip and chips. Sol Cantina has a center bar with access from all sides, accompanied by numerous high-top bar tables to seat a decent crowd. It you travel to the back, you will find a spacious patio with a full center bar out there as well. There is seating at and around the patio bar as well. During the warm months the back patio at Sol Cantina is a great place to relax, socialize, dine or even hammer a few tequila shots if that's what you're in the mood for. Just be aware, the drinks are a little more expensive than those in Westport or the Plaza.

This place annoyed me. I like the atmosphere of the place and there was a cool crowd, but....I was still annoyed. Since I don't drink beer, I'm all for the girlie drinks. I asked for a strawberry daiquiri which is what I usually start out with. They don't have strawberry diaquiris. I asked for a Dr. Pepper while I chose another drink. They don't have Dr. Pepper; they only have Coke and Sprite. After sulking for awhile I ordered a Pina Colada. It was so strong it made up for the loss of Dr. Pepper. The food was also really good, and half price during Happy Hour. I got over my annoyance until it was time to settle and leave. My total was $11 something and I paid with a $20. The waitress looked at my bill and said "Do you want change?" First off, I can't stand it when wait staff just assume you will tip them; that's always been a pet peeve of mine. But an $8 tip?? Then when she did bring my change, she brought me the $8 but shorted me about fifty cents. Okay, fifty cents isn't THAT big of a deal, but all of it together just rubbed me the wrong way.

"Meh. I've experienced better" pretty much sums this joint up. Had the fish tacos (since everyone raves about them...) grilled mahi-mahi - not fried - with chips & queso. Chips were kind of stale, queso got that icky skin on top, fish was lukewarm (I prefer it hot with cool toppings) and not much flavor to the sauce or taco as a whole. Servers barely talked to us - I'm sure they get better tips flirting with male patrons rather than 3 business women. For $12, I can get a doubled portion at Cancun and be waaaaay more satisfied. Won't go back.

Came here for the Luau and to enjoy some $3 Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka concoctions. The crowd was in full effect upon arrival, which made getting a drink a little tricky. Luckily, I recognized a bartender and she was able to assist me. I got us three Sweet Tea/Lemonades and proceeded to find some breathing room, which we found a few feet from the "dance floor". DJ Shaun Duval was in house mixing some smooth soundin' beats for the crowd. In my opinion, DJ SD has got some electric beats and skills. I wouldn't go here to dance but there was a small informal dancing area should you feel the need to get low. The layout of this bar is damn cool, with the inside opening up to the outside. It definitely has a true cantina feel to it...Although, if you get bothered by smoking - don't go here. It seems over half of the patrons were lighting it up. Definitely not my liking at all, but tolerable for me. This place neither made me wanting to come back again, nor leave. So I give a bleh 3 stars.

I've gone here for happy hour a couple of times. The food is alright, and the women who have been working the bar when I've been always had a scowl on their face. When my margarita cup is empty, I'll place it on the bar mat in front of me to signal that I'd like another or something of the sorts... sometimes it's ignored, sometimes it is thrown away without acknowledgment, sometimes I'm asked if I want another. I only go here when my happy hour companion suggests it.

Sol...you are starting to lose me! your servers have to be the worst ever! Went a few weeks ago, the service was awful but I overlooked it because really, it's not the servers fault the manager only scheduled 2 on a day where it would be packed (80 degree AND taco tuesday). Last night was ridic! They have $1 tacos and $1 tecates! yay! so you would think, right. so....I ordered 3 tacos, Waitress: "chicken or beef? Me: "chicken please" .. right.. well when the bill comes the chicken tacos are full price. Which, would have been a problem the waitress had said..by the way, the chicken tacos aren't on special, on the beef ones.. FAIL! As well, I decided to go for a red bull vodka, knowing that it was going to be a late one! Waitress: "what kind of vodka would you like?" Me: " absolut, smirnoff, skyy, which ever one of those you have, not your rail. cool, right? When I get my bill she has rung it as grey goose, I don't mind paying the extra dollar but it wasn't what i asked for. I get you may want to pad the bill with over-priced, over advertised, crappy vodka. however, i have worked in this business too long, it just pisses me off and makes me want to tip you even less because apparently you don't listen! FAIL! 2 fails do not make a right. I did like the tacos. I always do, cilantro good, onions good, corn tortillas...GOOD!! I tried some of the other food at the table, all solid. but the service is abysmal!

I want to give this bar more stars...but I just can't bring myself to do it. Sol is a typical "I just graduated from college, but I still think I'm in college" college bar with a slightly eccentric mix of people (more fratastic than not). If you go for dinner and drinks early on in the evening, the food is good and the scene is more of a young professional crowd. As for the food, it's definitely not your authentic Mexican dishes, but the fish tacos are pretty badass. The nachos, on the other hand, are terrible and a waste of money. I do really like Sol though and always have a good time there. The patio is pretty awesome and it's a good scene to meet other people and actually have a conversation (not shout into each other's ears over the music like other bars force you to do). However, like most fun bars who serve tons of people, the waitstaff/bartenders are no good. I've had one or two servers who were definitely attentive to me and my group, but other than those specific girls, the majority of the people who work there are somewhat clueless. Nonetheless, I will still continue to go to Sol Cantina, bring big groups of friends and attempt to relive the glory days of college.

I'm going to miss this place...seriously with all of my heart!! Please understand that I have pretty much grown up at this bar. I turned 21 here (I'm going on 25 now)... I've spent so many fun parties and good times here, I have to give it 5 stars. If (and IF) you go during happy hour (which is plentiful and includes a noon to 6 SATURDAY time, which think is much more than you could ever ask for...), the place is super affordable. If not, its over-priced easily. Seriously, only order off the HH menu at HH times and you will rate this place it's due 5 stars! If you want authentic Mexican, go elsewhere. That being said, this place has an excellent Mexican beer selection at reduced prices at all times...Oh Sol :) Get the Muchos Nachos if you want a deal, it fills a GIANT platter. The Quesadilla is great as well, I prefer the Shrimpadilla cause they have not yet skimped me on the shrimp! Service sometimes leaves something to be desired, but really... what can you expect from a place is is often jam packed?? Just make sure the waitress understands how the tab goes ahead of time and be pre-emptive in drink ordering if it is crowded... I mean COME ON... its a college bar, so if you expect to be treated special, you have to be a little delusional... Any time there has been a mistake made on my tab, it has been taken care of super quickly and easily with many apologies. That being said, we have had MANY MANY (x100) waitresses that have treated me and my friends amazingly and all I can say is.... There is something to be said for being a regular. Its awesome... and you can BET that I will be back at Sol the next time I'm in KC.

Seemed like a good enough bar. I went here for a friends birthday party last weekend and ended up having a good time. Only one thing kinda irked me, when we arrived there it wasn't hardly busy at all despite being around 10:45ish but there was still a $5 cover for guys. But overall I would say it is a decent spot to have drinks, especially if you love mexican beer like XX, Pacifico, & Corona.

This place is great for happy hour, but kinda a dive. It's old converted garage, nothing fancy. But I am not a snob, and the food was good. We ordered the nachos, which were huge and delicious. Also got the crabcakes, and they weren't bad for $5. We left with a $20 tab that included 2 margaritas. The service was a little slow; but what do you expect from someone who looks dead behind the eyes. But they had me at fast, cheap and greasy!

Had many great happy hours here as well as celebrated a great birthday. Where do I begin? As one of the best places on "Martini Corner" in Kansas City, Sol Cantina is for the people who want to have fun in life. It is for those of us who don't take ourselves too serious with our wine and martinis and cheese plates. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of the above, but I love this place for the chance to completely unwind! The happy hour menu is awesome. I love the nachos, cheese dip and quesadilias. My favorite is the margarita. They are strong, flavorful and inexpensive. Perfect for the kick off of a great night! When it's warm outside, the doors of this converted auto body shop roll up to let in the summer evening breeze and the crowds. The dj spins out on the patio for dancing and drinking. Honestly, I love this place. I would buy it if I could. Enough said.

I've never been to Sol for the late night bar scene. I come for happy hour, typically during lunch. I always order the same thing: margaritas and nachos to start followed up with the fish tacos. Fish tacos...that is why I come here. So, so, so good. They have different varieties both breaded and unbreaded. I prefer the unbreaded version, but both tickle the tastebuds. This is a destination for me and the fam, but well worth the 10 minute drive from B-side for me and 20 minute drive for my bro from the Northland.

Sol Cantina is awesome in the spring/summer/fall, when you can sit out on the lively patio for happy hour and down a few margaritas (or Modelos). I like the food, actually. But let's face it - Sol Cantina is not where you go for authentic Mexican food. It's where you go for cheesy, salty eats to accompany your adult beverages and people watching. The chicken tacos are really good and I'm partial to the nachos which are enormous and delicious. I've had huge amounts of fun here with friends and with my fiancé during happy hour, though I hear it turns into "Club Sol Cantina" on Friday and Saturday nights. My patience for the drunk and douchey and scantily clad has long since worn out, so I prefer to stick to happy hour with the working professional crowd. The real downside of Sol Cantina? The service. The waitstaff could not seem less interested in, you know, working. At the bar. Which is their job. It's horrible.The male bartenders prefer to only serve groups of single girls and the waitresses are constantly MIA. We'll probably avoid Sol Cantina until patio season, when it's easier to overlook the dismal service by enjoying the sunshine.

I am giving Sol Cantina a 4 star. I have been there twice now, the first time was awesome but the second was terrible. We sat at the bar the first time. We got served right away, had our drinks filled promptly and even better the food was awesome! The second time wasn't so great. We sat on the patio on a busy Tuesday evening. There was only one waitress and the patio was full. It took forever to get drinks. Even after mentioning that it was taking a while there was little care. We watched one table walk out after setting waiting for 15 minutes for someone to see them. Regardless of the terrible service the food was amazing. The fish tacos were perfect and the burnt end tacos even better. Go for the food not the experience!

The manager on duty on Friday, January 16, was the worst manager I have ever encountered! For some reason he thought it was appropriate to hold my friends debit card hostage because someone at our table (that we had just met for the first time) left without paying his tab. The manager felt it was my friends responsibility to try to find this person and have him come back to the restaurant and pay. Both me and my friend paid our tab. I even gave the waitress an extra tip because she was trying to do her best and it was very busy. However, we were told by the manager to "get out" of the restaurant because we would not (actually we could not because like I said, we had just met the guy!) contact the person who walked out without paying. To be clear, I believe anyone who has been in a bar has experienced being at table with a group of people and possibly not know everyone at the table, i.e someone's new boyfriend, right? Well, not according to the manager! He seems to believe that everyone who comes into a bar knows everyone that they are sitting with and how to contact them directly. If you don't, then this manager will think you're a liar and will accuse you of such! Horrible managerial skills to treat your PAYING customers in such a manner!!! I will NEVER go back!

I cannot believe this place wasn't better staffed over lunch for Cinco de Mayo. We sat for nearly 20 minutes before a server came to us, after I had gotten up twice to let someone know we were there (very politely too). We watched other tables near us get seated and get their drinks. Finally a girl came over and said "Sorry, there is no one to take care of you guys, but I am going to get your orders" Um, what??? Why would you EVER say that to a table of customers?? Just take us as your table, and maybe NOT make us feel like a burden. Took an hour to get our over-priced sub-par food. Big thumbs down.

Sol Cantina is Martini Corner's answer for a Mexican resort-themed spot for your inner party girl or frat boy. This place focuses on the party while the food is mainly for decoration. The venue features a large bar down the middle, which can be surrounded, with some tables up by the front windows. Towards the back there are more tables and then a large garage door can be opened to the back deck, complete with an additional bar, for outside seating and standing if needed. The food isn't flashy or complex, but it's not bad for what it is. They have nachos, shrimp tacos and other Americanized Mexican-style recipes. Beerwise they go with some old stand bys: Corona and Dos Equis. They'll get a little help from their American brothers: Miller, Coors and Budweiser. They might serve Boulevard, but truthfully I'm not sure if they do. The main focus is on the party. There's plenty of Fireball, mystery shots and whatever else is in fashion to numb the flashing lights and dj squiggles as the evening marches on. It's not my scene, but that's okay. It looks like they have plenty of customers who come out and enjoy themselves... and hopefully call a cab to take them home.

Went there last night for a bachelor party. Thought we would get a quick bite to eat and go on our way. There were 8 of us. We sat there for 5 min before any recognition. Our server was nice but took each one of our credit cards since we all wanted separate checks. Which was odd. So beware of that. Service stinks! Food came out in random times. 15 to 20 min of each others. Asked the waitress what the deal was and her response was "I have other tables you know?" After close to 2 hours SOME of us got our food. Got our cards back, paid with a managers comp but the 3 dollars didn't keep me from writing this. I am surprised that place is still in business. The end.

Met a friend here for early evening drinks and appetizers. We wanted margaritas and our waitress recommended sangria flavored margaritas. In general I do not like tequila but these margaritas were absolutely delicious. My friend and I agreed these were the best flavored margaritas we had ever had. We also got the salsa, queso and chips. Salsa was good consistency with a good amount of spice but not too much. Chips were paper thin, but good if you like that style. The queso was typical white queso you could find in any Mexican restaurant. Purchased 2 margaritas, half of the chips and salsa, queso, and one beer for $20. No deals, as we visited on a Saturday. Before 7pm there were $2.75 Pacificos usually $4.50.

Came here with a friend after a Yelp Elite event to have some cocktails and a light snack. I was surprised by all the tvs. I didn't realize it was a sports bar. It was taco Tuesday so we had a couple of cheap tacos. They were decent. The chips and salsa was OK too. The margaritas were a little sweet - I had the house margarita. This would be a nice place to come for Happy Hour. The service was good and the food seemed fine and they have good HH prices.

OK, so I've visited this place before but it had been a few years, so we've grown bored of some of our regular places & decided to return. I didn't remember much from our first visit here so I figured that my 1st time wasn't terrible because I would remember that. Walking into the place it isn't obvious what a persons supposed to do,do we seat ourselves or wait for someone to greet us & seat us. This is often a deal breaker for my mate because she doesn't like to look like a fool in public or whatever. I tend to overcompensate for this by taking charge so I decide to seat ourselves because the only employee close is halfway across the room. This turned out to be the correct decision as several regulars came in & did the same. So come in seat yourself at this place. It was mid-day on a Saturday but Sol wasn't particularly crowded, the feel I got was the clientele they were aiming for is more the come in have chips & salsa & drink lots of beer. Normally this kind of idea would appeal to me but the music they had going was all these sad hits from the '90s. So to sit & drink beer, eat chips & salsa, & listen to Huey Lewis & the news attempt at modern music that's ten years old doesn't make me feel fun & alive but more depressed like I'm trying to recapture my youth & just came to the realization that all the music that was popular at the time just plain sucked. So sorry but as long as that kind of music plays there "F" for ambiance. I ordered the Sunset rolls which were basically a southwest egg roll & she ordered the Chicken baja tacos. We both really like what we ordered & the Baja tacos were especially good. The chicken, although having trademark perfect grill marks that looked suspiciously like pre-made reheat meat, was cooked perfectly, tender & moist & seasoned just right. It didn't matter if it was fresh chicken or pre-prepared the cook did an excellent job in preparing our food. The service was just OK, when we placed our order the sever seemed upset we didn't order beers I often find myself thinking in a place like this I'd have gotten much better service if I had ordered alcohol & I find myself resenting it when & don't get a refill of what I am drinking. Which this time I did not, my companion got more tea but my glass got ignored. to sum it all up, we really like the food we ordered but the next song came on & our belly's were full so we got out of there I just didn't feel like listening to The verve pipe sing "we were only freshmen"...

I've been to Sol Cantina numerous times and I'm always on the fence.... There's nothing real "special" about it but I really do like their patio. I've had the nachos, tacos and even chicken salad and all were not too bad. I'd say the nachos and some frosty beers during Happy Hour aren't too bad of a deal. I recently ordered a mixed green salad with their cilantro vinaigrette and chicken for lunch and it was actually fresh. The chicken was the same that they put on their tacos, I would have preferred just a normal griled chicken but it wasn't bad. Another thing that goes into my 3 star rating is the fact that my car was broken into in their parking lot about a year and a half ago and they did nothing to help the situation. Long story short, my back passenger side window was busted out, nothing really taken (I don't keep anything in my car) and was out $200. This was in daylight as well. If they could actually take surveillance and care when crime happens, it would help the cause.

The service here is not very good. They are not in any hurry and they didn't seem to have enough staff. The food on the other hand was pretty good! The fish tacos and burnt end tacos had the best reviews at our table. The gringa chicken and pork tacos were ok. The chicken was a little dry and the pork just wasn't my favorite. Share the nachos...they are a good appetizer and plenty for everyone. We had the steak on our nachos and it was pretty good.

Sol is a solid option for Mexican cuisine in the Martini Corner neighborhood. Food is usually pretty good here. Sol's Famous Fish Tacos are really good, especially with a little avocado slice inside. Service is usually "meh" here. I used to head over here a lot for lunch with mixed results. Honestly, I stopped going because of slow service and sometimes flaky servers. My most recent trip here last week was vastly improved compared to prior trips. I'll give Sol another shot as we dive headfirst into summer and the weather is perfect for their patio dining or sitting by the front open "garage door" window.

I only come here for two reasons: 1) to meet friends who insist we go to Sol and 2) my brain says, what the hell, at least the beer is cheap and the happy hour is long. That about sums it up. I mostly don't like this place. The service is often pretty bad, but it seems better now than it was a few years ago. Back then, the service was often slow and with an attitude. If you're looking for mixed drink specials or real Mexican food, then this is not your place. However, there are a few positives which bump it from 2 to 2.5/3 stars. 1. They have a nice back patio. 2. The happy hour goes from 3-7. Now that's impressive. 3. They have quite a few decent HH food choices like $1.50 tacos and cheap nachos. 4. They have beers, margaritas, and shots on their HH menu. I ask you, how many places have HH shots? I don't really know why people flock to this place, but it is always filling up come 5pm. I assume it's the decent HH for some and the convenient location for hospital hill people. Oh, and they do tend to hire attractive waitresses who only own tiny clothes, so I'm sure folks like that too.

We stopped by here when waiting for a dinner reservation across the street. The large rectangular bar was packed, and so were the tables surrounding the bar. We had margaritas and an appetizer. The margaritas came in small plastic cups, and my favorite was the frozen Red Bull margarita. The appetizer was sub-par; we got the avocado egg rolls. The avocados in the rolls were horribly unripe and crunchy, not to mention brown. Yuck. The spicy ranch was great though! (if only we had something to dip in it!!!) I'd stick to a tiny margarita, or just walk across the street or next door to the next bar!

I don't drink so this review may be irrelevant but I didn't really enjoy the place. My husband and I stopped by for lunch and it was pretty empty besides a rowdy bunch of bros at the bar. The service was fine but the food wasn't that great. The waitress recommended the burnt end tacos and my husband got the Baja tacos. My husband enjoyed his but I couldn't finish mine. Probably won't be going back soon...

Love Sol Catina. They have happy hour everyday from 3pm to 7pm. $3 margaritas and they are delicious. The chicken tacos on happy hour are yummy as well. I believe they are $1.75 per taco, and you have to order two. I always come with my sister and friends, and it's never disappointing :-)

Sol has really great tasting food and an excellent happy hour from 3-7. I come here often, but the service is consistently terrible, especially today; my party had the worst service ever. The waitress was just flat out rude and slow. If it wasn't for the happy hour prices and location, then I would boycott this place for their lack of customer care. The only reason I WILL return is because I like the crowd, the food and, like I said, happy hour, but that service could run them out of business. They would have gotten five stars if it wasn't for their awful, AWFUL service.

I like how Sol is classified as a bar first and Mexican second on Yelp. That about fits it to a T. They are a sports bar (giant flat screens everywhere you look) with "Tex Mex" style menu options (that would make any Texan think otherwise). Reminds me a lot of Caliente Cab Co. in NY, which was a favorite haunt for me as an 18 year old NYU freshman. Positives: -patio festooned with lights is very inviting (there's a bar out there, too). -friendly waitstaff (if a bit absent, though it was busy enough during HH that it wasn't too bad). -insanely cheap HH has both food and drink options (common in KC as we all know). Negatives: -the dried salsa left on the plastic menu is still making me shudder. Keep 'em clean, please! -the appearance of the avocado on the lavacado rolls is slightly horrific. I actually thought it was beef and asked to return it. The food runner informed me that it was avocado and it's brown because "they are made in the morning and then grilled." I really didn't need to know that they are made in the morning. Seriously. Did. Not. They might reconsider that practice and assemble the rest of the wrap in the morning and then add in the avocado before service. A little sprinkle of lime juice and no more brown gooey mess. Ew!!! -not very good for large groups (they kindly accommodated by pushing a bunch of high top round tables together, but these don't work well if you're sitting in between two). If you have an after work group, my suggestion is to just hang around the bar, maybe or hang around a smaller group of tables with some standing room. -my margarita was not mixed very well. Let's just put it this way: despite the very low price and despite the fact that I rarely stop at one margarita, I was not compelled to order a second. I can't blame Sol Cantina for not being my scene, really. I don't like sports bars. I don't like weekend hot spots (I once sat across the street at the Drop and watched many a drunken antic going on here late on a Saturday. No, thanks). Their HH is good, but with so many fabulous HH options in town, I think I'd opt for going elsewhere. The food is not good enough for me to want to eat a later dinner here either. So, a little less than AOK, but the back patio might draw me back in on a nice day.

I travel to KC weekly and eat here at least once per visit but it continues to get better everytime! The Famous Fish Tacos and The Kabobs are AWESOME! Small menu done right...great job!

This place transforms itself depending on the time of day. Been here late night after bar crawling in the martini corner district and place is hopping. Typical bar but not too grimey and not too uppitty. Atmosphere is casual and good mix of people. Come here for happy hour early afternoon and you get a different crowd altogether. Youngish professionals seems to be the scene. Was a little hesitant coming here for food because of the fist pumping energy that happens here at night, but i was pleasantly surprised. The burnt ends quesadillas were on point! Kind of weird seeing it during the day too cuz place looked like Mexico (in a good way). All in all decent place to go chill for happy hour or for making a stop at a bar crawl.

This was located right across from The Drop. I came here to celebrate my coworker's birthday. I arrived around 6pm and it wasn't really busy. A bunch of people were outside with a handful inside. It was happy hour when I was there, too. I took pictures of the happy hour food menu (horrible job too) but didn't take a picture of the drinks menu. Oh well. Happy hour times: Mon-Fri 3-7 & Saturday Noon-6 I ordered from the happy hour menu they gave us. I tried a Pacifico ($2.50) and Muchos Nachos ($3.49) but added steak to it (additional $2.49 or $1.99 more for chicken). The Pacifico was good and it was better than a Corona. That's just my personal opinion. The Muchos Nachos was pretty big and it made me full when I finished the whole thing. I didn't think anything stood out or was amazing. Everything was just okay. One of my coworkers ordered Queso ($1.99) , 3 Chicken Tacos ($1.50 each), and Chips & Salsa ($1.00). The Queso tasted pretty good and I was surprised the amount of cheese wasn't in my Muchos Nachos. Parking was a problem but it depends if you're willing to walk far or not. The parking lot was small and limited. Sol Cantina was okay and got the job done for happy hour.

This Tex-Mex joint was the latest stop for the monthly CMYE. Sol Cantina reminded me of a beach-side frat house. There is a open patio with a bar outside and very high-stooled seats inside with another bar. Big screen TV's are everywhere and there's not a single window in the place; the cool breeze flows through the entire restaurant. This was not fit for our group of 16. I could barely hear the person next to me, let alone the rest of our party. Once I managed to get on that chair, there was no way I was getting down. They have margaritas during Happy Hour; their frozen raspberry margarita is good and strong. It comes pre-mixed and in a plastic cup (again with the frat house feel...) The Happy Hour nachos were actually the best find of the night. This huge platter of chips, cheese, sour cream, and salsa defentiely filled me up. I noticed that the waitresses don't write anything down. Therefore, they only take orders from 2 people at a time. Make sure they know exactly what you need because you won't see them again for awhile. I'd say Sol Cantina is perfect for a Bachlorette party or Guy's Night or some other event where you want to be drunk and loud.

Sol had the best burnt end sandwich I've ever had. Friendly staff and a fun atmosphere. Wish the seating situation was different took my parents and they are older and handicap difficult for them to get onto the high bar stool type seating. Also took my young child under one. Loud for kids and not really intended for a family sitting. Would make a great date night though!

Man, I really dislike this place. I knew I would before I went in, but I have been surprised by places before. Sol was not one of those places. Luckily, we got there before cover kicked in. Apparently, they started charging cover because they had a DJ. Wow...impressive, you have a DJ. I heard said DJ...he was freakin' terrible, and looked like DJ Douchebag. Anyways, I was the designated driver tonight, so I stuck to club soda. I'm always irked when a bar charges the DD for soda. For one, I apologize that I would like to drive safely and not kill anyone. For two, that cup of soda costs you, what, 10 cents? Do me a solid, would ya? No? OK...but don't give me attitude for not drinking. I also ordered a Miller Lite for my fiance, and tipped slightly above standard. No thank you? No? OK. The bartenders here suck. The clientele here sucks. The atmosphere here sucks. The music here sucks. I can't comment on the food. Why am I giving it 2 stars? The bathroom was surprisingly clean...

Great atmosphere and setting with the outdoor area. Try the Mahi tacos, fish tacos and cowboy quesadillas. Go there for Happy Hour on weekdays and a great lineup of dj's and local bands on weekends. The staff is always super nice and I never have to wait for a drink even when they are busy...

I love this place: it's the only place I have found with FRESH, real, homemade salsa and chips. Not the ketchup-version you find at the places along SW blvd. I loved the frozen Margarita's (sans the plastic cup - I'm not 16 on Spring Break-I don't mind paying for a festive glass for my margaritas: I'm over 21 i.e I am an adult and can hold a pretty glass: more on that later!) I had about 5 so I am not sure how great they really were: albeit I FELT great and the 1st one tasted great. Only negative: The atmosphere is only good in that it has high ceilings/open are so you don't feel squashed in when it's busy. That part is modern . But, on the down side: it's reminisced of an 80's chain dinner house in that the staff wears "tight" t-shirts, tacky outfits, etc: you have to go to see what I mean: Like a "Spring Break" look great if you're a high school kid, not so great for DINKS who spend their vacations in Europe. Strange given the highly educated, affluent crowd near the hospital that is close by: I think these Dr's are NOT reminiscing about being in Ft. Lauderdale at this age- it's more like Monaco . Anyway, just strange look for the type of customer in that area. The above being said, the food was Great, fresh, not cheap-filler ingredients. So I will be back! In DC this place would be a 2, because the fact there are so many great fresh tex-mex places there (I am having a REALLY hard time finding fresh in KC) and the Hooter's-esq uniforms -which is so 80's to me

Yesterday was my first visit. A friend was meeting a friend, so I tagged along. Had the Blue Crab Cakes-can I say Excellent? Great flavor, minimal filling, tons of chunks of crab. The server was so helpful & pleasant. Loved the deck - will take people with me when I return. One suggestion: join KC Originals. Some of us are addicted to that points thing.
