Service isn't that great, appetizer was soggy (nachos, tap beer was warm (they were out of several beers on their menu), kids meal had twice as many fries as the adult meals. Crazy and not worth the drive out.

I'll start by saying, the service and beer was good. Appetizer was decent and then my meal came. First bite was good and then I had my second bite into a 95% raw chicken breast. Can't wait to see what their rushing and zero mentality in the kitchen will do to my stomach. A replacement meal was made up to go (which was kindly left in the parking lot for the raccoons) and $5 knocked off my meal. Not sure if that will make up the difference while my head is hovering over a toilet or if I'll return again. It's still unbelievable to me that they didn't pay for my meal and allow that to happen in their kitchen. More I think about it, I won't return for a long time and wouldn't advise anyone to either.

You know a place has something good to offer when you find yourself becoming a regular there even though you live on the opposite side of town. That's the story with me and Martin City Pub. We originally heard about this place from friends who raved to us about the food - especially the mac n cheese. If I'm being completely honest, I don't know that I share that enthusiasm about their food. But I've absolutely come to enjoy the pub's atmosphere, and love their small but high quality draft beer selection. Specifically what keeps me coming back is their 2 Rare 2's Days, in which they tap two "rare" beers every week on Tuesday. These are seriously good beers from all over the US, many of which are typically only available once a year - and priced very reasonably! Well worth the drive if you ask me!

A nice little mailer offering a free appetizer showed up at my door, and before long I showed up at their door. A friend had told me this place makes a fantastic Reuben sandwich so it was a breeze to get the husband to agree to give it a try. The appetizer we chose was the fried mozzarella. The bits were so small and easily half had exploded in the fryer (all the cheese leaked out!) which left us a basket filled with some cheesy bites but mostly empty shells to munch on. Boo. 1 star. My "we built this city" burger was pretty decent. Grilled onions and mushrooms could make shoe leather amazing though! My medium rare patty was cooked just right and was juicy and well seasoned. 3 stars. Sadly, the accompanying fries were sub-par and tasted of burnt oil. Husband liked his Rueben. 4 stars. The swirled rye bread was beautiful and thick sliced. The sandwich itself was big and juicy with plenty of kraut & dressing. I can see this place being more fun coming with a group, watching a game and downing some beers.

My husband and I love coming to MCBC. We have been for both lunch and dinner and have always had a good experience. We have tried several items from their menu and have never been disappointed. I would especially recommend their Mac and cheese and burgers. They have good portions and are very consistent. Don't overlook their specials either. A while back I had a special that included a deliciously prepared fish and Brussels sprouts that were killer. I also have to say that their beer selection is always on point. Not huge, but with enough variety and interesting choices that there is always a perfect option to fit your mood. This includes some of Boulevard's special releases (chocolate ale) and several of their own great in house beers. I have to compliment the service as well. Friendly servers who don't bother you too much but still make sure you are taken care of. On one particularly busy night when we went to watch a Sporting KC game we sat at the bar and even amongst the rush we still had a good experience. It's a great place to watch a game if you can't make it out to Sporting Park but is not to be overlooked for a great casual night out any other day of the week as well.

This place is amazing! The food is exceptional -bordering on gourmet but not fru-fru. Really the best food I've had at any restaurant in the area. I don't know what they do to their steaks, but they're the best I've ever had -tender and flavorful. The bartender Brice was so friendly and welcoming i felt like we were regulars when we're not (but will be). Tried the Martin City Brewery blonde and loved it - my new favorite beer. Thanks for a great date night MCB!

We decided to try the pizza in the Taproom and boy we were we glad we did! I had the Bacon/egg, my daughter had the wild mushroom and my boyfriend had the charcuterie. ALL delicious, but my fav was the bacon/egg. Soooo yummy! The crust is perfect! Watch out for the infused oil available on the table, it's SPICY! We also had the pretzel balls which were handmade and buttery. I would have preferred a cheesier dipping sauce but still really good. We washed it down with a flight of beer. Out of the 10 we tried I liked 8 of them! We loved the Big Boy so much we took a growler home. The service was great and it had a casual but cool old building feel. I hear they have bands in the courtyard when it's warm. We can't wait to try the Pub side now!

Visited Sunday before the game. Fantastic waitress. Food excellent. Great environment!

The family and I decided to try the Martin City Brewery after hearing great things from friends. We decided to sit on the patio because there were no seats inside (good sign, right). This turned out to be a bad choice as the patio smelled, had no music or atmosphere of any kind, and was a gathering place for smokers. My bad for choosing to sit outside. However, the service was also poor, the food was average, and they only had one MCB beer on tap, betraying the name on the building. I may give it another try but will sit inside, or try the Pizza and Taproom across the street, but won't be rushing back any time soon. I recommend skipping the lifeless and smelly patio.

I am upping it to four for a couple of reasons. First of all, I feel the beer selections have improved (not that they were mediocre before, but I just think the variety is better). Also, the menu has changed a time or two, and we have eaten here a couple of times since the first yucky experience, and the food is really good! My favorite is the We Built This City burger with pretty much everything on it. It was decadent! The fries were also tasty. I also like that the staff recognizes us and seems to care about our business. For the most part, they know the beer, too. Additionally, the music they have in here is pretty darn great! One of my favorites, Truckstop Honeymoon, often plays here, and they alone are worth the trip. Throw in delicious beer and food, and you've got a hit!
(4)Alexis R.
The taproom is great! It's just across the street from Martin City and has 6 amazing house beers. The Abbey and the Saison were my personal favorites, but the Bitter, Coewit and Porter were very solid also. I got the sampler tray ($10) to try them all. The place gets busy really fast, even on weeknights so I was glad we got seat at the bar ~4pm. Chatted with the brewer a bit (former Doodle Brewery brewer) and got more insight into the operation at Martin City. All the beers were really tasty and growler fills were reasonable at $10-12. The pizza was outstanding also. We got a large which would be more than enough for 3 people. I love the wide selection of toppings and the crust the perfect thickness and chewiness. Everyone was really friendly and I liked the personal touch from the owners and bartenders. Overall a really great place...just wish it was closer to where I lived, because I would totally be in ALL the time! Can't wait to go back.
(5)Abby J.
Food was delicious! Brews were tasty. Cool little atmosphere. Great service. Definitely a must stop. We got the black and bleu mac n cheese and the cowboy burger. Both were good, but the mac n cheese was exceptionally good. A must try! Tried a few of their beers on tap and they did not disappoint, as well. We will be back!
(5)Hannah T.
The beer is always delicious and the pizza and tap room has some great pizzas! The bacon and eggs or the cheesesteak are some of the best! The staff is nice and they are very up neat and keep the atmosphere fun! Both sides are delicious but get there early of you want a table! It always fills up fast!
(5)Tom S.
I gave it 2 stars because of the staff, they are great. The food is average at bast. I had the cowboy Mac and cheese. This dish is what I would expect at a school lunch. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich. Again below average. If in KC not worth the stop.
(2)Mike B.
Something's up. Normally the food is exceptional and service is great. It's Tuesday night and we have been sitting here for 45 mins for our food when I asked I was told the kitchen is really backed up. There are fewer than 20 people in here. Had to edit my review at the 1 he mark I call the waitress over to cancel our order she tried to convince us to wait and take it to go...what??? A water overheard and shouted that the kitchen is running over 40 mins. Like we are to accept that?? This will be the last time I go there. Like I say. "I would sooner forgive a lie as I would bad service"
(1)Gary K.
This is a great place to go to for lunch or dinner. I always get the steak sandwich which is awesome!! They also have many beer choices. The food is way above average bar food.
(4)D V.
My wife and I went here for dinner on Friday night based on a positive write up in a local magazine. It's great to see non-chain restaurants with decent food and drink south of 435, so we were excited to check it out. Unfortunately, this place is clearly trying to operate way beyond what it can actually pull off. The overall service was absolutely terrible in nearly every regard, and probably the worst we've ever experienced in Johnson County in recent memory. We arrived at 6:45, and weren't greeted by any host/hostess. Additionally, the space is cramped and there is no place to sit or stand while you wait. [Parking is a hassle as well but I don't fault the restaurant for that]. Finally, my wife stopped a random server walking by and they wrote our name down on a list. We grabbed a round of drinks at the bar, and I overhead another customer say, "Do you happen to have any Parmesan cheese for our pizza?" to which the bartender quipped rudely, "No.. where is your server?" Seriously? Who says that to a guest? Anyway, for some unknown reason, a party of four was seated before us, and had already received their food before we were even seated. With multiple parties waiting for a table, open tables sat for 10+ minutes without being bussed... The entire staff was running around in a completely chaotic and disorganized manner, with absolutely no customer orientation whatever. The party of four that arrived after us had finished and left before we even received our basic pizza, which didn't come until around 8:30pm, a full 1:45 after arriving! Our server said the kitchen did it wrong. Nonetheless, when the pizza finally came out, we didn't have any plates or tableware. Someone from the kitchen literally just dropped off a pizza on our empty table. After several minutes, we finally got up and asked another server to get us some plates. My wife asked for dressing on the side of her salad, which was ignored as well. Also, her water was not refilled the entire night, and we also were never asked if we wanted another round of drinks the entire time we were seated. We would have ordered another round had someone actually asked us as their beer is pretty good! Anyway, we finally asked another server to speak with the manager, to which they replied, "I'll get her, she's in the back." When 10 minutes went by with no one to be found, we asked again and this time a gentlemen came out and apologized, saying there was an event going on that never should have been scheduled the same time the main restaurant was open. Anyway, he was apologetic but our service was so poor across the board we will not be going back. :( Food - Decent Beer - Good Service - Absolutely terrible in nearly every way imaginable

Sunday afternoon, Royals Game and first time there. Don't let the moderate outside fool you, very pub like inside. Decent menu and very fine selection of craft beers. Moderate prices. My daughter and I had the Woodsman burger, fries and Mac n Cheese. my redhead had the Tuscan burger with salad. Service 5 stars! Food AWESOME 5 Stars! We will be back! Thanks guys!!!
(5)Duane K.
Craft Beer and Pizza? You can't go wrong with the combinations at Martin City Brewing Company. I personally like the Saison craft beer but tonight I also had a pint of the Octoberfest; very good. I also took a pizza home for the family, the Black and Blue topped with marinated skirt steak in a Marsala sauce, glazed mushrooms, red bell peppers, red onions and blue cheese. There is another winner in the Southland for casual dining.
(4)Derek N.
Another fun night at The Brewery, but the service suffered this night. Good news for the owners, the place was very busy. Unfortunately, the staff had a hard time keeping up. Our server was hustling all night, but it seemed like the bar and kitchen had trouble keeping up. I love the beer selection, but this night, most of the special taps were out and it took a while for the beer to arrive. I had the steak sandwich and it was great. Perfectly cooked to order and great flavor. Unfortunately, the fries we're undercooked. I attribute that to the kitchen being slammed. A bit unusual for these guys. This is one of my go-to places, but this night they let me down. I'll be back.

Cowboy Mac & Cheese = mac & cheese topped with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, bacon and jalapenos. I mean, that's all you need to know, right? Go get some. When I'm feeling in a healthier mood, the Fried Goat Cheese Salad is excellent - fried goat cheese (obvs), cranberries, avocado and a spicy dressing. There's always a few draft beers on special, so check the chalkboard.
(4)Tara C.
This is my all time favorite restaurant. The first time I ate here I had the four cheese Mac with steak which was delicious. The next time I had the fried goat cheese salad and now I can never look back. It is the best salad in the world. I have tried a variety of appetizers and beers as well. Just about every one on the list. You just can not go wrong with eating and drinking here. The service is also on point. A restaurant is a MUST try!
(5)Beth P.
3.5 rounded up for what I am expecting next time. Good super filling appetizers. Great draft selection (first time I recall stumbling across firestone in kc). Slow service but it was the nicest day of spring so it was probably extra busy for a Sunday evening. Great train watching from the patio.
(4)Katharine P.
Way beyond what I expected for bar food. Everything was wonderful. Great unique atmosphere. Cozy without being so crowed that your chair is constantly being hit. They were really busy this particular Friday night, however our service went smoothly. Can't wait to go back!
(4)Ron D.
Have always loved this place. Tonight ordered sandwich with side salad an d both were good but salad full of nuts, no mention of this on menu and when I ask why was told that was my fault. This is bullshit, I'm now sick from this and require meds. I just wanted them to understand that this is real thing and if it's on menu I don't order . Thanks Fuckers.
(5)Erin W.
This was the first time here and we had a large group. It was a little confusing that there were 2 locations, right next door. The pub side doesn't serve their own beers but the brewery/pizza side does. The food here was great. Mac & cheese balls could've used a little more flavor, but they were still good. I had the soft shell crab po boy sandwich and I was a little nervous about it because even though I like crab, I've never ate the shell before. It was really good (once I got past my fear of shell eating). Waiter was terrific and was very attentive (but not too much) to our large group. Will definitely be back and can't wait to try their beers at the brewery too!
(4)Kevin Z.
One of my favorite places around town. I'd recommend any of the Mac and Cheese options and the Reubens are great as well.... Pretty much everything I've had has been great! The tap selection isn't huge, but ALWAYS has solid selections. I have generally had very positive experience with service here as well.
(5)Courtney C.
Excellent beer selection, excellent food and fantastic environment That being said I would recommend going on a night other than Fri or Sat unless you are prepared for a substantial wait and semi-slow service. This is a relatively small space with limited capacity staff and somewhat of a small kitchen however it's true what they say; good things come to those who wait. I assure you that your patience will pay off and you will become a devotee of this wonderful neighborhood brew pub. Also the brewing has begun. Was informed that home brew should be available in the next 2-3 weeks. Cant wait!
(4)Kara G.
This is a great place to eat at whether your on a casual date, or bringing the whole family. Menu has lots of great sandwiches (adult style Mac and cheese rocks!) and the burgers are fantastic. My husband loves all the craft beers on tap - plentiful - and likes that they are always rotating. We tried the cowboy nachos on our last trip and boy they went fast! We have yet to try the pizza and tap room across the street (we have some minsky faithfuls in the fam) but will definitely do so soon.
(4)Austin H.
Martin city first trip...won't be the last! Great beer selection and a killer good palette menu! Rueben is great if that's what you're into. That's what I got! Had several awesome craft brews! Taps are elite!!
(4)B S.
Cowboy Mac n Cheese - YES Homemade ketchup is a huge plus Premium beers (I tried 5) were disappointing but that's just me
(5)Mike W.
Martin City Brewing Company is definitely a place you need to try. Those of you who have frequented Martin City eating and drinking establishments over the years would have known this place as the Martin City Pub in the way back - a real dive of a bar where you could get PBR in a can for like a buck . . . and when we were younger we'd actually sneak our own beer in the upstairs back door by the pool tables. (sorry!) The place was loud and obnoxious, and there was always a pretty good chance you could get in a fight without trying too hard. Then for a short period of time it was a Chinese joint - never made it in to try it out, but it didn't last long so I guess that says a lot . . . Well jump to the present . . . the owners of Martin City Brewing Company have transformed the place into a great little restaurant/bar. They put a lot of personal elbow grease into the furniture and decoration - great ambiance. It can be a little loud at times, especially in the downstairs front area. The upper level back dining area is a little quieter though. They've got a great beer selection - twenty beers or so, so you can definitely find something that suits if it's beer you are after. They also have a full bar if you'd like something a little stronger. At the last time we were there they did not have any of their own brews, but I understand that will change if it hasn't already. Food is pretty good, with an interesting variety, and the menu changes fairly regularly so watch the specials. There is one thing for sure . . . if you've got a hankerin' for something with cheese in it this is your place - Mac and Cheese entrée is a MAN'S MEAL and there are about eleventy-six other cheese items to choose from as well. Their burger and reuben are both tasty and well done. In summary - Good food Good drink Good (but sometimes loud) ambiance A bit pricey in my opinion for what you get, but not grossly over-priced Be prepared to wait at times - the place is small (guessing less than 100 patrons can be in there at a time) and if you get a drinking crowd tables don't turn over too fast We like it and will definitely go back when over in that part of town - unless we're headed to Jess and Jim's across the street for a steak - See you there - Cruiser

I love a place that I want to keep going back to, over and over, because there are so many things on the menu I want to try. So far, Martin City Brewing Company is a winner. The spicy chicken wrap and spicy avocado salad were both great. A dining companion had the macaroni and cheese with his burger and raved because it was still so creamy, where a lot of the more gourmet mac and cheeses you get in restaurants these days are drier. A group of us also came here for Happy Hour and enjoyed several of the starters, including some really solid wings. The beer selection is impressive, and the service has been great each time I've been there. On a recent lunch visit, it seemed like half of the people who came in were greeted by name by the wait staff or the bartender. It's just that kind of place.
(4)Roshelle H.
Cozy nook with a good beer selection, on tap and in bottle, and pretty good food. It's a small place with an interesting layout. They also have a small patio with music playing on the weekend when it's nice out. The place really comes alive on Sporting KC nights, and you might have to wait for a table when there's a match on TV. Two things you need to try: the burger and the mac and cheese. The burger is a good portion and comes with fries. It comes with a ton of toppings, including mushrooms and your choice of cheese. Bacon or a fried egg is a dollar extra. They don't have my favorite mac & cheese on the menu anymore, but you can ask about it -- it's called Wildcard mac & cheese, and it has buffalo sauce, bleu cheese, and bacon bits in it. Perfect amount of kick and flavor, I can't believe it didn't sell better. Other things I've tried -- the spicy chicken wrap (very good), and the nachos (didn't like). It's a perfect little spot for a low-key night out with friends.
(4)Stephanie A.
We looked forward to eating at Martin City Brewery and trying their own brews. Unfortunately, we didn't know that the pub and brewery are separate places. We ended up at the pub and had poor service and mediocre food. We got our lukewarm food an hour and a half after being seated. The fries weren't hot and the chicken in the salads was dry and obviously leftover from another day. We won't be going back .
(2)Michael P.
Have dined here for lunch twice in the last couple months. Unfortunately my second experience was not as positive as the first. First and foremost, MCBC has a great selection of beer and terrific entrees. The food is expertly made - so much so that you wouldn't believe you were dining in Martin City. My second visit was marred by spotty service and REALLY slow turn around time on food. I struggle to have patience with slow service when a restaurant is nearly empty. That particular day our server, although really nice and positive, was painfully slow and aloof. It was also one of those situations where I felt like I could see my food in the kitchen window waiting to be picked up, but never expedited to the table. I was actually surprised after nearly 45 minutes for food that the fries were crisp. It could have been a kitchen gaffe or server error, but any way you slice it, it was slow and awkward. I'll go back when in the area. It's a great spot to have a drink and some lunch or dinner. I'll look past the last slip-up and consider it an usually unusual experience.
(3)Jerry B.
Incredibly disappointing. We ordered their Reuben and also their corned beef and cabbage. The beef consisted of chunks of fat and gristle. The Cabbage was inedible slop. I was tempted to give an extra star because the beer was extremely cold...just the way I like it. In the end, the food was so bad, I couldn't bring myself to give an addition star.
(1)Patrick B.
Let's take a moment and talk about mac-n-cheese. This place knows exactly what to do with it. KC may claim to know BBQ, but Martin City knows mac-n-cheese. This is the best m&c not cooked at my home. It is creamy and flavorful. I didn't even try the tricked out offerings. Oh... And the burger was great too. Don't miss this gem.
(5)Nicole R.
After hearing the glowing reviews I was expecting to be swept away by an amazing place. My husband and I sat at the bar, he ordered some beers, and I had cocktails. The 1st cocktail I had said it was supposed to have basil &fresh fruit in it. When my cocktail came it neglected to have either. When I told the bartender she said yeah we're out of basil and fresh fruit, never offered to make me another drink. I tasted it and it tasted strange, I told the bartender. Instead of immediately offering to make another drink, she badgered me...Why does it taste strange, what's wrong with it. She finally made me another drink. My husband and I had 4 drinks between us and some nachos. Our bill came to about $36, we were there for about an hour. He left a $6 tip which is reseasonable. When he checked his statement a few days later the bartender added $4 on it to make it a $10 tip on $37. He put a dispute in with American Express. We won't be back. To those of you that choose to go the Martin City Brewing Company ask specific questions about ingredients that are described on the menu. If you are being waited on at the bar by a young, thin, blond look at your receipt and statement afterwards because apparently a 15-20% tip isn't sufficient and she feels she deserves more like 30%. I hope she gets fired if not now, than eventually. Adding on to a tip on a credit card is dishonest and is stealing no matter how many $$$ you are talking about.

Barrel aged beer is amazing! Uses Dark Horse barrels, even better. Food, beer, and service have never disappointed - been here more times than I can count.
(4)Katie H.
I have been here with my vball team and decided to take my family while they were visiting. The wings were great, people raved about the mac and cheese and we had a delicious flight of beers to try.
(5)Rhonda W.
Great selection of beers, including flights where you can select the beers. The fried egg sandwhich with sage and mozzarella was yummy and definitely super tasty and worth it! My friend had the fava beans with the special and hmmm... No comment on that :/ Outdoor seating available and plenty of parking.
(4)Kathy M.
This was our 2nd visit and we were not impressed. The food and service were lacking. Hubby requested bacon for his burger at an additional cost and received one very small piece of bacon on his hamburger, which seemed a little chintzy since you paid extra for it. I had the wild card chicken sandwich and I just felt like it lacked flavor. The fries were just ok, so definitely not worth the calories. Hubby requested his fries be extra crispy and they were no different than anyone else's, so that was disappointing.
(1)Reed N.
Quite possibly the best mac and cheese I have had in town. No bacon... just gooey goodness and a gratin top. Oh Lord. My mouth is watering. It is that good. : ) Now for the warnings: It is still loud inside. They still regularly screw up tickets... to their benefit. Two of the 5 tabs last night had issues. Mind your money! They still have weird service here. A little too familiar in some cases for me. Sometimes I do not like sarcasm from strangers I am about to give money to. LOL Don't let that keep you from bringing out the Mac and Cheese though!
(4)Caleb L.
Made it here last week and had the steak salad for lunch. The service was prompt and courteous. The food arrived after about 15 minutes and looked very appetizing. It did not disappoint, either. The only thing I would say negative was that the salad portion could have been a bit more generous. I was very satisfied with the flavors and freshness, and the steak was pretty tender. I just felt like dessert was a good idea when I was finished... so I ordered a miniature homemade coconut cream pie. It was quite delicious, with lots of toasted coconut on top and a flaky, buttery crust. This was even a little small though, not even as big as many slices of pie. My colleage ordered a turkey blt with fries and her portion seemed more than sufficient as she ended up taking a lot home. The place wasn't very big, but the area is not very busy so there was no problem finding a table. Overall, very good, and I would eat here again!
(4)Lindsey G.
Do yourself a favor and don't come here. I ordered a burger for $9.00 and it has no flavor. It tastes like some meat was just thrown on the stove. Save the money and make one at home, same quality and much cheaper. I WON'T be coming back.
(1)Sherry L.
In general, this place is great. Friendly staff, service can be slow sometimes. Food is great. Love their egg sandwich, grilled cheese and cowboy mac and cheese. However, their Valentine's Day (2012) special wasn't all that special. We had reservations but our table was in the 'bar/lounge' area in patio chairs and a wobbly table. My boyfriend got the bacon wrapped filet special and asked for it to be medium but it came out well done. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't tender. The waitress asked how it was and we told her that it wasn't medium but we didn't want to wait and bother them and told her we were fine eating it. Later the manager (I think) came and offered a free Chocolate Ale to make up for the steak. What I have come to learn (from going back and eating more), is that you have to order beef one level more rare to get it made at the level you want. So if you want medium on beef, ask for med-rare. Otherwise you will get well done.
(4)Marie F.
most expensive mac and cheese ive ever had...creamy yet crunchy and oven baked....still just mac and cheese. got it in place of fries for an upcharge to see what the fuss was about. pass on the fuss. burger was unremarkable. asked for sauteed onions and they were more like wilted and stringy... bread was thick and not soft. was hoping it would be great but it was just bar food...cause its a bar. wont return unless its for a beer. they did have good selection of beer....cause its a bar.

OMG! With every bite we can't help ourselves from saying, " This is the BEST pizza ever !! Ever, ever!!' Matt we r so proud of your success!! I MC Brewing Co. & Pizza & Tap!! I your success TracyO & Donnie Brack!!!
(5)Mark L.
Great pizzas and fast friendly service. Beers are terrific. Love the IPA and Bitters. Both sides of the Brewery are great. Spanish Pizza and Meat pizza are very tasty. Also, they have a lot of great music when it warms up outside. Nice to have such a great place in Southern KC area.

I visited Martin City Brewery for the first time today for lunch with some friends. I honestly didn't even know this place existed, I usually zip past all Martin City establishments on my way to bigger and better things (sorry Martin City). Let me start this off by saying that I don't drink, so I won't be reviewing them on their alcohol selection, taste, etc. I liked the layout of the restaurant and the upper level seating area, but from my seat I could see into an open attic area that was being used to store random tubs full of supplies or decorations. It definitely made the restaurant seem a little run down (for lack of better words). I ordered the Cowboy Burger (which comes with a side of fries) and a ginger ale. All of us at the tables had finished our drinks well before the food came (they put A LOT of ice in the cups and not much of your beverage choice), but the server never came to check up on us for refills until our food arrived. I kind of felt like that since we were the only ones in the upper seating area and in a corner behind a wall that we were forgotten about. Our food arrived in a good amount of time. The burger was great but the fries were not, you could taste that they had been frozen. I'm not naive and know that most restaurants like this use frozen french fries, but I shouldn't be able to taste that they were frozen. I think it would have helped if they had been salted a little bit more, I had to drench every fry in ketchup to mask the frozen taste. I don't think I'll be recommending Martin City Brewery to any friends, as the overall experience wasn't mind blowingly awesome, but if I find myself craving some classic bar food and a good burger, I may visit again.

Num-num-num. I ate, I drank, I conquered. If this restaurant wasn't 35 minutes from my house I'd go there more often. Maybe it's the small place, maybe it's the tiny 2-level bar, maybe it was the friendly people, but I found Martin City Brewing Company to be cozy and charming. Martin City has a really good beer list, which is what drew the hubs and I to go there. We went on a Saturday night and they were packed! So we scrunched ourselves into the bar area, ordered a frothy brew and patiently waited our turn. Once seated, it took a long while for our server to come 'round. And when I say "a long while" I mean "a...long...while." However, once we were waited on the service was fine. We chalked it up to being busy on a Saturday night! The hubs and I were having a brew so burgers were ordered and enjoyed by us both. I'm anxious to go back, maybe try something different off the menu and delight in their rotating beer menu. Martin City Brewery, I give you 2 mugs up!

I might have a new obsession, and that is to work my way through the menu at Martin City Brewing Company. I have heard marvelous reviews about this establishment and it didn't disappoint even with the build up! I had the steak and veggie kabobs over their Sonora salad. The marinated steak kabobs were juicy and delightful, the veggies (zucchini and onions) had that wonderful and flavorful grill mark on them. I was so pleased, so deliciously satisfied. The atmosphere was humble and welcoming, it was a casual dining area with a small town bar feel. The waiter was helpful with an ease that felt non-pressuring. I look forward to returning for the mac & cheese, the blackened fish sandwich, the fried herbed goat cheese... they might start to recognize me :)

The fried mac'n' cheese balls were pretty good (but foods like these are why the coasts poke fun at us-like deep fried sticks of butter), and the cheeseburger was, simply put, plain. My son loves the egg sandwich which seems to be popular on here, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I just picked the wrong burger, who knows. Not a bad place, just not memorable either way.

I love Martin City Brewing Company. They have quite a few beers on tap - but they are all GOOD beers. (For instance: Lagunitas Cappucino Stout, Stone IPA, etc.) We ordered the mac and cheese with blue cheese, bacon, and wing sauce as an appetizer ... and also the bruchetta with bacon, blue cheese, red peppers and pesto. SO good! Both of them!! We also got a reuben and burger, and my boyfriend is convinced that the reuben is the best he's ever had. (Side note: there were only two of us :( ...but we had to try it all!) The price range is typical - and they run beer / drink specials during the week. This place is a must try if you appreciate a cozy environment, "bar food" done right, and great beer!

OK! I have been in this pub at least a half a dozen times. Their beer menu is to die for! Their menu is well thought out and quite tasty. The kitchen is very small and the ventillation is sub-standard....you will smell like the kitchen the rest of the day. Lana is a great bartender. So now you ask....Only 1 star? Located only 1 mile east of the KS/MO border, their main hostess/waitress/know-it-all (Melissa) makes no bones about hating KS and giving some Norm Stewart BS about never spending a nickle in the state of KS! Buy local!! Seriously? As I work in MO, live in KS, and pass the place frequently, its too bad that such Civil War sentiments still exist. But as Melissa says... buy local! Won't be going back any time soon. Sorry Lana! Say hello to my Nectar Ale for me. DAMN!

Oh dang. I haven't written a review since LAST YEAR. Whoopsies, Yelp. It's not you; it's me...I've been busy. Please forgive me? Anywho. I headed out to Martin City Brewing Company tonight. I'm so, so excited that there's a cool new locally owned restaurant/bar (with SO MANY microbrew choices!) near me. I practically live in Martin City. There are few *good* places around here. We've got Jack Stack and Jess & Jim's -- but I rarely ever eat steak. Whoa. Off track again. So the BF and I went to the restaurant tonight to take advantage of the BOGO offer on hamburgers for KC Magazine's Burger Wars. All tables were already taken in the small space, but fortunately a couple seats at the bar opened up not too long after we got there. I adore the bar. It's a split-level, and it's interesting to watch the bartenders *reeeeaaach* up to serve drinks to the barflies up there. It's a cozy space, with capacity of 80. Warm, red walls; exposed brick; tin ceiling titles. I love it all. It was busy when we were there, and I expect it's busy every night of the week. The bartender made some beer recommendations and let me taste a couple before I ordered. Then a fellow bar-mate suggested I try the Bell's Hopslam, which had just been tapped. OMG, Yelp. Fucking delicious. It's the best, sweetest double IPA I've ever tasted. I'm sold. If you sit at the bar when you go, make sure to glance to the right. See the size of the kitchen? IT'S TINY. And that would be why the restaurant offers only sandwiches and salads. Both the BF and I were digging our "We Build This City" burgers. Martin City Brewing Co. does bar food well. This burger can be stacked pretty high -- Dagwood high. Fortunately, I was good with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, cheddar, garlic aoili, fried egg and bacon. You can never go wrong with bacon. Actually, that is quite a few toppings. I could barely fit it in my moth. The burgers were solid. Juicy, flavorful. I'd get it again for sure -- BOGO be damned. Did I mention that I love how many microbrews are available? Both on tap and by the bottle (Freestate, represent!). The owners are working on building a brewery so that the joint can finally live up to its name. And they don't waste time with the typical domestics -- Bud Light, PBR and the like are only offered by the cans. Yeah, keep the taps free for the good stuff. Bands also play here some nights, according to the menu, but there wasn't one tonight. I have no idea where the band would go, actually -- it's pretty tight. Also, and this may sound ridiculous, but the logo reminds me of a koala. My most favorite animal EVER. Maybe if you view it from further away? How about a smaller version? Still don't see it? That figures. Oh well. Still pure happiness.

Great food, don't miss the chef specials. A must have is the cowboy Mac and Cheese. Also try the turkey sandwich with the egg on it.
(4)Debra L.
Not your average bar food. Great menu, atmosphere, and over 50 beers --14 on tap! Service friendly. We had a great time.

Well. Um... where to start. Martin City Brewing Company. The name suggests that they brew beer. I don't think I am the only person who would assume this by the name of the place right? I guess they make up for it in the varieties of bottled beers and what they have on tap. Mr. C and I were out for a typical "let's get out of the house drive." Once we were thoroughly satisfied with our distance from home, I jumped on Yelp and searched "Nearby" and this place came up on the list. I had heard about it from another friend and I know that many of my cyclist friends when riding south of the city frequent several bars in that area. We walked into a pre-game St. Paddy's Day party. We parked behind the building and the sidewalk had a few sickness piles along the way. I could hear some loudish music and was immediately starting to regret venturing there. I like going to bars and hearing music, but when I'm not expecting it, I kind of don't know what to do with myself. Since we had driven that far, we decided to bite the bullet and go in. We walked in to an Irish band playing in the corner complete with drunk dancing girls. Upon walking in 20 more steps, we encountered a sea of green. In Kansas City, St. Pat's Day is HUGE and I wasn't quite sure why they were celebrating early. I doubt on the actual day they will experience less of a crowd. They had a special St. Pat's menu, replete with Reuben Sandwiches and Corned Beef & Cabbage. Luckily for the vegetarians, they had spicy hummus on the menu. And was it good? It was genuinely the worst hummus I have ever had. It was flavorless to the 10th power!!! I wonder what they consider spicy at MCBC. We ordered some fries and well, if you read my reviews I always say it is hard to mess up fried foods. They were good. I don't know what the regular menu looks like, I guess I can look it up, but from other reviews I see that they have mac 'n cheese. I doubt this place is an "Irish" bar and probably serves traditional American fare, ie Hamburgers. The Guiness was on special for $4 and we had some. Probably the best part of the visit on that day. I will say this, the building in which the restaurant/pub is in, is small and old. It is kind of industrial rustic looking which makes it cool-looking in my opinion. However, I don't tend to go to places for the decor. But it doesn't hurt when all the places are in alignment. Decor adds to the ambiance of a place, especially if it's good. Food: Gross hummus Service: Our server didn't know anything about beer or what the food tasted like. Would I Go Back: I plan on trying this out when they are off their St. Pat's menu. I just saw the regular one and the food looks decent with lots of vegetarian "hot" food options, not just salads.

How have I missed this delicious little place? I just tried MCBC over the weekend, and I must say the food is fantastic! The menu was so appealing we had to have our server check back on us 3 times before we were ready to order. Once the food was on our table, not only did it look amazing, but tasted wonderful. I will be going back in the near future.

I had high hopes for this place. I went for lunch last week and they didn't have any of their own beer on tap. They did have a good selection of other beers though. The food was good, average bar food. Service was average too. I probably would rate it higher if I could have tried their own beer.

This place has been on our list of places to go for a while since it is near several friends' houses. We finally got around to trying it and it was definitely worth the wait. The place is tiny and when it is as full as it was last night, not much room to move around. But, the bartenders were paying attention and getting drinks for everyone who was milling around. We waited for about 45 minutes for a table while having a few of the beers from their extensive selection. Friday seems like a good day to go because they have different beer specials eache week so we were able to get a couple of different choices for $3 each. They also have a pretty cute signature drink menu which includes a drink called a "Polar Ice Cap" that is served to you in a glass made of ice! We didn't have a chance to try it but will definitely the next time around. After perusing the appetizers, I decided on a seafood a-la-mer dip with bruschetta. It was pretty tasty. I ordered the special, a burger topped with mexican pork with a side of tortilla soup. I didn't know what to expect, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Fantastic is all I can say. It also had fresh salsa on top and an avocado dressing which completed the mix nicely. Also, the tortilla soup was more like a chili so it was different but had a great flavor to it. This place will be one to return to!

Only open for 6 days but has a reputation as a friendly, neighborhood restaurant. All the staff was great, very helpful and were glad we were there. The place was busy when we got there at 7:30pm and was still hopping at 9:30pm, when we left. The front of the brewery has a garage door, which they opened. Fresh air and a breeze prevailed as we sat there and ate dinner and drank some beers. The menu is small but has something for everyone. Chicken speidini meatballs, pork sandwich, mac and cheese, something for everyone. They have an outdoor patio with plenty of seating.

Not a great first visit. Went there on a really hot evening and it as almost as hot inside. The staff managed to screw up the orders of our table and two around us. They tried I bring us a salad three times that wasn't ours. Finally brought my wife's side dish after a long wait but the rest of her meal and the rest of our meals were no where in sight. Finally one of three meals came out and then another. Many long minutes later the final one came out but I sent it back. We asked two times for refills on drinks but never saw them. Manager finally came by and apologized and comped the meals. Got a nice scowl from the server on our way out the door. Not sure we'll give it another chance. On the up side my wife did really like her steak sandwich.

Stopped by for lunch today. We were greeted cheerfully and were given menus immediately. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. The food was fantastic. Huuuuuuge beer menu. Fair prices. I have nothing but good things to say

The one thing to remember is get here early. This place gets crowded and seating is very very limited. I've been twice now, and I've noticed that the crowds can really start to get backed up. With a limited number of tables and patrons that stay a long time due to the large variety of drinks, watching the games, etc. tables don't open up as fast as people continue to come in. As far as the food is concerned, try a burger. These may be the best burgers in the Kansas City area. For a starter try the risotto balls. For a side, get the awesome mac and cheese. Another interesting thing I noticed is the level of familiarity between the staff and the customers. These people really know their customers, and they treat them like family. It was really refreshing to that type of interaction so many times during my visits. In everything I've read, the restaurant indicates that they planned to begin serving their own brews in 2012; however, I don't think that's actually happening yet so the name is still a little misleading. Given the excellence of the food and the consistently large crowds that I've seen, hopefully they'll be able to get their brewing operations up and running in 2013.

Great setting for any get together. The beer list is excellent and the "on taps" are premium. There aren't many places left that are like home as soon as you walk in.

The more times we go to Martin City Brewing, the better it gets! The special appetizer that night, was a seafood medley. I died and went to heaven eating this dish. The sauce was something I could have drank thru a straw! Mussels, shrimp, clams, and crab in a white garlic parmesan sauce, served with toasted baguette, Yum Yum! The live music on Tuesday's adds to the great experience of coming to this establishment, not to mention, the kind greeting and attention given to you by the owners.
(5)Michael R.
Went with a group on Saturday afternoon. I had to go with a burger, since that seemed appropriate for a what was explained to me as a brew pub. The burger was not only cooked properly, but was so tender it can be described as melting in my mouth versus chewing it. At my table of 8, there was not one single person that did not remark how fantastic each meal was. This place is on my list to visit over and over again, as there were so many things that need to be sampled including the large beer list.

Cowboy Mac and Cheese - a hit. Great atmosphere and old town feel. Rustic and refreshing - live music was a plus in the outdoor area

Being a total nit-pick when it comes to beer......I love the Beer Selection at Martin City Brewery.. My Favorite is Odell's 90 Shilling and to have it on tap!!!!!!!.....is just awesome. I had the brisket sandwich and it was delicious. My wife have the bacon/chicken sandwich and she loved it too. I recomment this place for those who like cold beer, good food and great company!
(5)Lea K.
Okay so this place is awesome!!! The food is sooo good that it makes up for the slow service and dingy atmosphere. The menu is surprisingly eclectic. I ordered an appetizer of ricotta balls which were super great. They had a wonderful flavor and texture. For my entrée I ordered the grilled cheese which was one of the best grilled cheeses I have ever had. Rated on the food and menu alone I would give this place a rare five star review... But alas, I cannot do that, the atmosphere is a little too dingy. I had to change my infant daughter and they didn't have a single flat surface in the bathrooms to change her on, so I had to put a blanket down on the bathroom floor and change her diaper there... gross.
(4)Chris O.
The food is solid and they have the best beer selection around. Always love stopping by when I am in the area. Only downside is you have to watch soccer on the TV. That is usually the only thing on. Try the Risotto balls and the grilled cheese.
(5)Sandra B.
We've been to MCBC on several occasions and had great food and good service. The selection of beer is good. Tonight we had terrible service that made our guests decide they would never return. Granted it was a busy Friday night but this went beyond the busy excuse.
(3)Robert H.
If you are a Sporting KC fan on the south side of town, this is a great place to watch an away match. Great selection of beer (bottles & tap) and good specials on game days!
(5)Mark L.
Great beer selection. Good food. Matt and Mark are terrific bartenders. Rueben, Patty Melt are stellar. Homemade ketchup is also good, use it.
(4)Mark M.
EXTREMELY pleasant afternoon place. Great food and beverages and the bar tender and waitresses- I already feel like I am "NORM!!!" But.... Building needs more ventilation because of the kitchen. Will give it couple of more chances, but I don't like to go back to work with the smell of kitchen (grease?) on me. The smell of fantastic beer (selection) on my breath is bad enough! Hope they clean up the air in there. Will post again.

We have been here several times and each time, it just keeps getting better. The last time we went, the bartender brought us over free shots and they were unbelievable! The food is out of this world amazing and pretty unique when you think about other restaurant menu offerings. I can tell that they're really trying to offer something new and we've always gotten top-notch service whenever we've gone to dinner there. They continue to think up new and creative dishes to serve and none of us have had anything less than awesome. Ask for the MCBC Toxic drink next time you go. SUPER yummy and actually made with dry ice. Love going here and would recommend it to anyone. Sure, they get a bit busy late at night on the weekends, but our wait has never been longer than twenty minutes.
(5)Sam P.
Call me crabby, but any place with "brewery" in the title needs to be brewing their own beer. Our waitress told me that they're still working on licensing and such and hope to be brewing in 6 months - so likely not intentional false advertising, but I likely wouldn't have made the drive from OP had I known. Anyway, my steak sandwich was pretty good and the beer selection nearly made up for not brewing their own. My 2 year old had the kids chicken tenders and they brought it out SUPER HOT. After he cried after touching it, I put my hands on it and realized how hot it was. First, for a kids meal, most restaurants will not let food that hot be brought out. Secondly, at least warn me. Maybe I can blame that on the restaurant still being new. If I remember about this place, I may try them again when they're brewing their own beer.
(3)Patrick B.
Great food, service and great beer selection!
(5)Adam A.
Beer list is phenomenal! Make sure you try the Reuben if you are an aficionado of reuben sandwiches as well. The best time to go is off peak because it gets pretty busy and packed at peak (be ready to wait)
(5)Kellie W.
Met up with the Beerlord beer drinking group here as there is an extensive list of beers that provided options for all the beer types: ale, stout, etc. My husband and I ordered hamburgers and found that selecting numerous toppings didn't result in a higher price...fabulous! The burgers were juicy and tasty, one of the best I've had in a long time and the homemade ketchup had a bit of zing. Only complaint: my husband ordered one of their larger beer bottle options and they brought him a different beer when the one he ordered was out of stock instead of asking him what he would prefer as a replacement. When ordering a $9 beer these things matter.
(4)Sheila G.
I have had the opportunity to go here twice. Both times the staff and food were excellent. There is something for everyone on the menu. I am a picky eater and I think they have the best burgers and macaroni and cheese around. The beverage selection is very unique giving guests lots to choose from. The Martin City Brewing Company is an excellent addition to the South Kansas City area.
(5)Amanda F.
Just recently opened and absolutely worth checking out! I recently had lunch here and I was completely impressed with the food! I had the broiled mac and cheese and it was excelent, my friend had the brisket sandwich and it said it was amazing. The set up of this place is fantastic, lower level seating and upper level seating. The only downside to my experience is we went in during lunch time and there were only two other parties there at the time and enough servers to each table to have excellent service, the server gave us the menus and said she would give us a few minutes to decide, in the meantime we decided what we wanted quickly and 20 minutes later when she was filling up our water we had to tell her we were ready to order. In most other situations I would completely understand the wait if it was actually busy, however it was not. Other than that I really enjoyed this place and am happy to see a great new business doing so well!
(4)Ryan H.
Great little place! Good beers, service and food in a fun atmosphere. The spicy chicken wrap was delicious, and their side salad is fantastic!
(5)Mike D.
Once again, so impressed here. The place was so crowded there was nowhere to sit except outside where it was quite cold. My beautiful waitress didn't mind and I had everything I needed in several minutes. I ordered the pan seared steak and it was truly phenomenal. Great price for a wonderfully cooked and flavored meal. I seriously can't commend my waitress enough. I don't think she was even covering outside but when I asked her if there was any seating and told her I would be sitting out there, she didn't hesitate to make sure I was doing well. Love coming to Martin City.
(5)Amy R.
This place was fun. Great service and great food. We went early on Friday night and were not disappointed. Got a great table in front and got to watch the sun set. It was one of the FEW incredibly nice evenings to sit outdoors and we enjoyed every minute of it. The food was great macaroni and cheese delightful, I had the we both had sandwiches. They were really yummy and the beer, service and atmosphere rounded out the relaxing vibe.
(4)Ryan R.
I absolutely love both locations. I haven't eaten at this spot yet just the Pizza Tap room but I plan to try the food here in the future and update accordingly. First word of advice is get here Tuesday night. I don't care how far you have to drive. I make a 30 minute commute for their Rare Beer Tapping. Last time I was here I got to try Perennials Abraxas and I can say without a doubt it was one of my favorite beers. Martin City Brewing also has amazing beer too! So don't pass it up! They have a wide range of beers from light to dark that fits everyone's preferences. The bartender was very helpful the last time we were here. She spoke to us about the different beers on tap, and a few of the specialty bottles of liquor they keep. One was a Roasterie Vodka which I hadn't seen before. They had a lot of other options as well and I would love to go back and see some of the cocktails they can make with them. One of my favorite things about this establishment was their restroom set up, you went into the restroom as you would normally but the sink is on the outside of the door in the hallway. This keeps you from having to open a potentially dirty door after you washed your hands. Sure you still have to shut off the faucet but in my mind it was a brilliant move on their part. Kudos to you Martin City Brewing for setting a high standard in not only beer but cleanliness!
