Love this place! Always have!!! GREAT chips and a wonderful variety of salsas to dine on while you are waiting for you for you to come. The staff is always smiling and helpful!!! Fantastic menu with a great variety of gluten free items. REALLY WISH THE STUFFED AVOCADO WOULD MAKE IT TO THE REGULAR MENU...hint hint management and chefs!!! If you sit in the bar, make sure Mariah is your waitress! She is simply fantastic!!!! So observant, never lets your drink run dry and absolutely pays attention to detail!! Thanks Chewys!!

I'm not one for chains but we love Chuy's. The service is hit or miss but my most recent experience was great! It's always busy so we usually opt to sit in the bar. Very well priced for the plaza and love their happy hour! I would recommend the corona-Rita and tacos carbon. I get both steak and chicken fajitas in my tacos and they are freaking great. Make sure to ask for their creamy jalapeño sauce for the chips and to add to your food. It tastes like dreams come true.

Very fun place to go to eat. Lots to look at on the walls and the service is great. The food is very affordable and everything I have had so far has been good. FYI- Lots of kids there!

Had the chili rellenos. Seasonal Hatch chili with pork filled, wrapped in bacon. Also the tried and true meat filled with deluxe tomatillo sauce. My go to fave. Service person was new so slow as she needed help to enter the order.

Average Tex Mex Located on the edge of the Plaza, Chuys is upstairs, yet you can enter around the back. Not really much to report here. The decor feels really dated, the cutlery was served in sanitized packets and the servers are slammed to the point where they were serving the wrong dishes to the wrong tables. The food tasted like plastic! The soft tacos I order were average at best. The chips that were severed with the meal broke apart even just to pick up. The one star is because the server was very nice Overall: Forget it

Chuy's is a great food option in the Plaza area. The food can be a bit spicy, but very good. Ask for the creamy jalapeño dip with your salsa, it is a blend of ranch, jalapeños, and cilantro very tasty. Got the tacos al carbon probably some of the best steak I've ever had in a taco. We also had the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas very good. Only downfall might have been not enough help in the bar area, one waiter was trying to serve about 6 tables at once.

Tex-Mex Margarita Martini, garnished with olive stuffed jalapeños. So amazing. Chips and finely chopped salsa just made it a great evening. They came to refill more chips when we were almost ready to go but hey, it's complimentary so I'll be nice. They used to have the wonderful Nacho Bar but not sure why they took it down when it made the business more busy. It's a perfect bar for a huge gathering. I've been here a few occasions and they don't say anything when we combine the tables. Bartenders are sweet. I asked for more olives and I got it.

My wife and I came here on the recommendation of a friend, and boy are we glad we stopped in! At first blush, Chuy's is a very silly place with goofy shirts and crazy stuff on the walls. But there is a lot more than that here. Good food and good service wait if you can get past the shenanigans. On our visit, we were wowed by our server Olga. She was very helpful and attentive. Our drinks were never empty for long and neither was our basket of chips. She was very helpful with the menu and made suggestions when we couldn't decide. Can't say enough great things about her! Per our usual, we started off with the queso dip. It was very good with a kick to it. Some spice, but not too much. My wife loved the salsa too. Very fresh and tasty. My wife got her usual test meal, a chicken chimichanga. I got a bean burrito smothered in chili con carne. Everything was delicious. My wife did like the rice, but she couldn't stop eating the beans. Other places, she will forgo the beans for more rice. Here, she left rice on her plate to eat more beans. The chicken in her chimi was very tasty. She got a sauce that was very much like a jalapeno ranch. She liked it and put both that and some of our leftover queso on the chimi. My burrito was huge! I couldn't finish it! The chili con carne was listed at 2 peppers, which concerned me a bit, but when I tried it, it was really good. Top notch experience! My wife said this place would be her new favorite if we lived closer. We will most certainly come back!

The atmosphere was wonderful as were the wait staff. It was a Friday night and I waited only 20 min; not too bad. I had the stacked enchilada plate. While the green sauce, rice and beans were great, the large chunks of chicken were a bit dry.

In my mind, the Chuy's in Austin is probably the best Tex Mex that I've ever had. And, believe me, I've had a lot of Tex Mex! So while strolling through the Plaza over the weekend, I was a little surprised to find a Chuy's right here in the Midwest. I was sure that it was some sort of knockoff trying to capitalize on the name of the Austin-based chain. After some deliberation, we decided to forgo dinner at one of my favorite KC spots, Houston's, in order to give this one a try. I was not disappointed. This place is every bit as good as the Chuy's in Austin. The steak fajitas were fresh and tasty as my wife's taco salad. After our meals (not to mention two baskets of fresh chips), we entered into a food coma of happiness. Fortunately, we had the walk back to the hotel to work off some of that meal. Next time I'm in KC and in the mood for some Tex Mex, you better believe that I'm heading to Chuy's.

I'm a fan of Chuys! I've been to a few and I was so happy to see it coming to Kansas City. I love their twist on traditional dishes! Everyone has to get the jalapeño ranch or maybe it's called spicy ranch? I can't remember but it goes awesome with the yummy chips. The decorations inside are awesome!! So much to look at and pretty funny stuff! The wait staff is always upbeat and happy and attentive! I'll definitely be back!

Whoa. Went here for the first time tonight. Dinner was pretty disappointing. The food here is really bland and boring. The rice on our plate was inedible -- It was overcooked, and tasteless. Hardly any vegetarian entrees on the menu, and practically no seafood options, either. The salsa was good, though. Very spicy. Festive atmosphere, but really bad Mexican food.

It was my first visit to the Plaza location since opening in October 2013. To be honest, I had some hesitations about going because I'm not a big fan of Tex-Mex (or chains). But Chuy's won me over. The decor is over-the-top bright and a little loud, but hey, I'm there to eat not decorate. I loved the made-from-scratch speciality sauces that come with the (free) never-ending chips and salsa. Ask for the Creamy Jalapeño - a sauce so secretly delicious it's not even on the menu. Also try the Deluxe Tomatillo sauce made with sour cream, fresh herbs, cilantro and spices. Chuy's Frozen Peach Margarita ($6.95) is one of my favorite cocktails on the menu. Made with Exotico Silver tequila, triple sec, real peaches and fresh-squeezed lime juice, it's surprisingly refreshing for a margarita. Not too sweet and just a touch tart. From tacos to taquitos (and even margaritas) the Austin-based restaurant chain certainly proves that everything is bigger in Texas. Like the Green Chile Chicken Taquitos, a Chuy's Thursday special ($8.49) made with hand-rolled flour tortillas, shredded chicken and green chiles, rolled up and lightly fried - then topped with Creamy Jalapeño sauce and served with green chile rice and refried beans. It's a HUGE plate of food (especially for the price), but I didn't mind taking some home for later. The portions are certainly a bonus, but the taste really brings it home. Chuy's marinates their meat for 24 hours in a signature blend of Shiner Bock beer, serrano peppers, lime juice and spices. It's some of the most tender, deliciously marinated meat I've had at a Tex-Mex restaurant. Overall, I'm impressed.

You know for all the crap reviews of this place... It is what it is... Its on the Plaza... Its a chain... Its texmex... blah blah blah. Its not bad! Happy Hour is where its at. The Nachos were awesome! large size nachos (about 10 of them) that you could just pick one up and it was yours... with everything you want on them. The salsa and guac were meh. But to be expected. Just ask for lime and whatever else you need in there. Tasted the steak burrito... Not too shabby... Steak was seasoned well. The tortillas were made in house. Mine was a tad under done but still tasty. Tasted the Chicken enchiladas... very good. I loved the green chili cheese sauce on them. If you want authentic mexican this aint your place. But if you want a good HH and a nice place for drinks and food with friends on the plaza... Id try this place out.

I was at the Chuy's in Kissimmee FL last week it was 75 degrees. I come to Kansas City on another business trip this week and it's 12 and four inches of snow on the ground. Story if my life. First time at the Kansas City location. The service has been awesome. I have had great service at Chuy's before but I'll say this location has been the best. If you are trying to figure out what to eat you need to try the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken. It is an excellent choice. Nesmiah was my server. You should ask for this gentleman to be your server. Very attentive and polite. Makes you want go come back.

Since Chuy's originated in Austin Texas - home to my alma mater - I get super exited when I get the opportunity to eat an old Tex Mex favorite in a new place. Their jalapeño ranch is to die for and you should ask for it alongside your chips. The atmosphere is super funky and unique. It's a hodgepodge of random decor. Both times I've been here for dinner on work trips, it's been relatively empty. That being said, I've always received great service. From this location I've ordered both Baja shrimp tacos and the deluxe chicken enchiladas. I also ordered a dinner salad - who does that right? Well if you do, don't get the cilantro vinaigrette like me. Get some yummy ranch and indulge instead.

The happy hour here is amazing - even on a Friday night. Every day 5-7pm the drinks and appetizers are absolutely delicious & cheap. My husband and I eat here often! Wonderful margaritas, creamy jalapeño dip, & entrees (homemade tortillas & fish tacos!). Highly recommended!!!!

Went back and had the veggie enchiladas this time. They were great and, as always, the creamy jalepeño was on point. Service was wonderful, meal was ever-pleasant.

Chuy's is one of my exceptions to the chain restaurant rule. Is it the kitschiness? The tackiness? The tasty Tex-Mex? Oh yes, it's definitely all three. I was happy to stumble upon a Chuy's close to the hotel where I was conferencing in Kansas City. This Chuy's is snuggle right in the middle of Country Club Plaza, so it's easily accessible to anyone in the vicinity. The service was good for a quick lunch, and the food satisfying as well. Thumbs up!

Let me tell you something about Chuy's though.... The food is FIRE!! LOL! No but for real, I love it. You must get the prickly pear margarita, no lie, so good!!! I had the Baja shrimp tacos with beans and rice on the side and ohhh man, I was so stuffed and so satisfied. Everything was delicious, only down side, wish they had endless chips like Los Tules, but besides that it was a wonderful dinner and will most definitely be back again!

This place is a standard, american chain who serves up ok food. The atmosphere was 'creative' but so similar to those other chain restaurants (Red Robbin) where they just put a whole bunch of crap on the walls to make it feel local. What this is really hiding is the bad service, terrible chips, and so-so food. The food lacked character which anyone who's gone to New Mexico, Texas, or Mexico could immediately tell you. I'd rather eat the food from a street truck on the streets of Albuquerque than this tasteless grub. The drinks were just sweet and tasted like Kool-aid mixed with tequila. The sauces were lackluster. The inside was quite loud. I will not be back. I recommend finding another place for mexican/texan/new mexican food. It really has very little character or reason for you to go there.

Really very good. Better than your typically TexMex Combo plates are huge. Speciality drinks are huge. But very tasty. We came mid afternoon so it wasn't very busy. Got right in and service was attentive. Been to other ones, but this was certainly one of the better ones I've been to. Would definitely come back.

I judge Mexican restaurants by 3 criteria: 1. Chips and salsa: Not only is Chuy's house salsa made fresh daily, it's delicious and is a nice compliment to their warm chips, which aren't too thick/thin. They also offer +/- 5 other salsas you can choose from, which are complimentary just like the house salsa. 2. Margaritas: this one is simple. Chuy's margs taste good with the perfect amount of tequila. An extra shot is $1.50 during happy hour. 3. Food: the food is fantastic. Their homemade tortillas are a great consistency and really stand out on dishes like Tacos al Cabon. The menu is diverse, tastes fresh, and has tons of flavor throughout. A+

I am from Austin and SO happy that there is finally a Tex Mex (NOT the same as Mexican food) choice in KC that does not include Velveeta. While this is a chain, it is a small chain and I am very proud of them for adding this location. It is just as bit as good as the original back in Texas. My favorite is the Southwest Platter or sharing the Elvis Platter. Their enchiladas are the bomb. No other restaurant in KC can touch their homemade tortillas or salsa. And thank you, thank for finally supplying KC with swirl margaritas! For you gringos that means a mix of frozen lime and frozen flavor of choice-Mango, Raspberry, Strawberry etc. KC Chuy's has filled a void in my heart and I love them forever!

So...if you're a Mexican restaurant you better have Huevos Rancheros or else you won't be pleasing this little yelper. Chuy's may not have Huevos Rancheros on their menu, but they went out of their way and made it for me anyway! This, my friends, is the reason Chuy's has become one of my favorite Mexican joints to eat at. As an undiagnosed ADHD guy, I love how they decorated the place. It's like 54th Street Grill and Buca de Bepo, where they just stick a bunch of random things on the wall but make it work! The place was clean and service was great! That waitress really did go above and beyond and got the cook to give me what I wanted! For about $6 plus tax, my dish was a steal! I got a heaping amount of Mexican rice, refried beans, and two sunny side up eggs, just the way I like it. PLUS YOU CAN ADD MEAT! For me I added roasted chicken! (lol the only healthy part of it) For other dishes on the menu that had this amount of food, their prices were roughly $10-12 each, so I was definitely happy getting such a good deal! Pair it with their sauces, they were bomb! Forgot to ask what they were, but trust me add their sauces on top of your meal and you will be a happy customer! Thanks Chuy's! I will definitely be coming back here! Happy Eating!

So excited this place is expanding! We were visiting KC from Virginia and were happy to learn they're coming to our area. Decor is eclectic and bright. Hubcaps, old cameras, and lights were part of the atmosphere. Service was friendly and prompt. Ask for Tanner Scott, the manager: he knows everything about the company and is super helpful. He's been with the company 21 years!! Food was really good. Chile rellenos are the best I've ever had! The creamy jalapeño and the cilantro sauces (that you ask the server for with the chips and salsa) are delicious! Homemade tortillas (again, you have to ask) are soft and yummy. My Perfect Margarita was just ok; not well mixed or salted. But I guess frozen margaritas are more their forte. We're excited to come again closer to home!

Sometimes I have low expectations for new plaza restaurants and also when Tex Mex is involved. I was pleasantly surprised at what Chuy's had to offer. Several Tex Mex inspired dishes, and I had the chicken flautas. Delicious and the flautas were smaller than normal and you got 5 of them. I liked that and the refried beans has a great flavor to them. They had really awesome Texas martinis and it's nice that they give you the shaker with liquor/ice so you can pour at your leisure. The service was really good and our server catered to us frequently and got our food out fast. Great place for families or large parties.

Love this place! The first time I ate at Chuy's was in Fishers, IN. The KC one is just as good. The salsa is amazing. The stacked enchiladas are my favorite. This place has a fun atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone.

Yeah, I just don't know that I can get behind Chuy's. I've visited a few times now, and while I will admit that the food is pretty tasty, the atmosphere is just too much. WAY too much. Every single inch of the space is covered in kitschy bric-a-brac and they're so obsessed with shoving fun down your throat that it left a bad taste in my mouth. Hubcaps cover the ceiling. Glass statues line the bar. The entryway is covered in old cameras. Hundreds of wooden fish hang from the ceiling. the walls are covered in pictures of chihuahuas. The staff all wear "funny" t-shirts with somewhat stale pop-culture references.I'm all for being organized, but with how overly-themed every corner of the restaurant is, you can tell that it's hyper corporate, and that's just not my cup of tea. This place was designed by committee, for sure. That being said, the food is pretty dang good. The chicken chimichanga was a-ok, but I really preferred my combo fajitas. They were an incredibly ample portion, and the chicken and steak were both perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tortillas are phenomenal, made fresh at a little station you pass as you walk in. A hefty portion of fixins come on the side (rice, beans, guac, sour cream, cheese, lettuce) that guarantee you'll be enjoying pretty awesome fajitas, indeed. The enchiladas were good, and the large appetizer portion of guacamole was fantastic! They make good food at Chuy's, and affordable to boot. The affordable thing is a double-edged sword, however. This place is a ball-pit away from being Chucky Cheese. OK, maybe not really, but the number of families and screaming kids has to be addressed. In concept, I'm all for family-friendly and affordable restaurants, but for me personally this is pretty intense. The bar was a madhouse of children, and the kids directly behind me in the dining room kept touching me. Annoying. Another positive is the service. Brandi was our waitress on our last visit and she's great. ZERO complaints. She really knows the menu, anticipates our needs (more chips, refills and so forth) and has a really magnetic personality. I bet she makes a killing. Her co-workers were all great as well, this place excels at teamwork. The staff is always buzzing around the floor, making sure people are well taken care of. So, if the things I identified as negatives aren't negatives to you personally, I say get to Chuy's ASAP. For me, the place is just alright. If people wanted to go, I'd be glad to accompany with little-to-no hesitation. But I don't think I'll be seeking it out, especially considering how many fantastic (and significantly more laid back) Mexican restaurants there are in KC.

What a very bright, kinda quirky atmosphere...very tourist but I still enjoyed it! The food was very good for commercial tex mex!! I had the fried stuffed avocado special and it was divine, although I walked 3 miles that evening because I'm pretty sure I ate my calorie intake for the week! Chips were light and crispy, which I like...service was good!! I will go back and try other items soon :-)

I've made plenty of trips to Austin over the years, so it was curious that I had never eaten at Chuy's. I'm glad we now have the opportunity in KC, though. It's kitchy and fun and a good time. Our waitress was great - she navigated us through the menu, was prompt in her service, and, when she overheard me making a comment about the blackberry frozen margarita, brought us samples. The place had not been open very long when I went, and she was noticeably knowledgeable about everything. While the servings are large enough that you probably don't need additional food, the nacho bar was still worth a visit. I had the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, which, ridiculous name aside, was very tasty. Everyone in my party liked their food and was anxious to return.

My mom loves this place so i took her there for lunch. I didn't have really high expectations because I don't like most of the Mexican restaurant's she does. I ordered cheese dip and a chicken fajita burrito. Both were amazing. I would have given 5 stars but i hate going to the plaza and trying to park. The food is excellent though.

Rating 4/5 because we went on a beautiful day when we could sit outside. The food was 3.5/5. Mom told me to let everyone know you get a great portion for the prices, so I can't leave that out. She rates the ground sirloin tacos (comes with 3) above average. I enjoyed the baja grilled shrimp tacos (2), but they lacked cream sauce. We both added the chile con queso to our entrees which made them tastier. Also, the soft tortillas were quite puffy, but I actually liked the thickness. No low card there! Refills are not free. My two diet cokes cost $5.18. The staff was friendly and our waiter was attentive, but it was not busy. Also, I was not asked if I wanted a refill; it was just given... at a hefty price! The chips are very thin and crispy and so good with the spicy pico de gallo salsa! We didn't ask if they had a more "salsa consistency" salsa, which we typically prefer, yet we loved the chunky stuff this time.

Went here a few weeks back with some of my family and it was a great time. We were seated promptly when we arrived and got great service. The food was very well made and came out in a timely manner. We got a variety of things so we could try it all. Most of the dishes were great. They were even kind enough to change the YV station to a local sporting event. I would def. recommend this place to others.

Chuy's on the Plaza has a neat aesthetic. But it is loud, service is only so-so, and food is good, not great. Lets face it, you can get Mexican and Tex-Mex anywhere. So just having a bunch of crazy pictures on the wall doesn't do enough to make it stand out. The food is good. They make the chips and salsa in house which is always a plus. But while good, it really does not stand out in any significant way. The prices are fair, but they seem to be campy for the sake of being campy.

Oh Chuy's, how I've missed you. I'm originally from Austin, Texas so this joint is all too familiar and beloved in my household. Therefore I can't even begin to tell you how glorious it was to hear they would be opening one here this past year. After trying the Kansas City Star's "Best Mexican in Kansas City" picks a couple of years ago, I was sorely lacking some good Mexican food (sorry Ponak's, it just didn't work out!) Now I have to say...this particular location leaves a little to be desired. I've gone a few times now for happy hour and while the drinks and food were great, the service leaves a bit to be desired. Our waitress had trouble getting our order correct, and then stood there mean-mugging us after we finished our meals and continued to drink for another hour or so. Unfortunately for her, the only thing dying from her death stare was the little bit of tip she still had left after our food debacle. That being said I personally think the food here is miles above other joints in the city, and the margaritas are TO DIE FOR. This is the perfect place to go for happy hour (free chips, queso, salsa, jalapeno ranch *waggles eyebrows*) and as long as you get there fairly early you shouldn't have to wait very long. Overall I will continue to give this place my undying loyalty considering it is the same great Tex Mex I've lived off of my entire life...however I'm hoping future visits will result in better service.

Very nice find. Baja tacos good after adding a side of Guac n their hot sauce. Thumbs up for the granddaddy brew. Party also tried the crunchy tacos n the Elvis chicken dish and both were yummy. Not bad at all

I took 3 new people (first timers) to Chuy's tonight, at 9:15 pm. As usual, the experience was awesome. We had a different server, but she was just as amazing as the other two were. Very attentive and seemed anxious to get whatever we wanted, without hesitation. One person in our party had weight-loss surgery, and they had the perfect small-portioned meal to suit her needs and desires.

Chuys has decent Mexican food. Not great, but not terrible either. I prefer tex mex (like my beloved Carlos O Kellys) and finding a great tex mex restaurant in KC is apparently impossible. That being said, a restaurant with average food can really save business by having amazing service- and that's been my experience at Chuys. Last night I ate there and had a server named Steven. He was prompt and polite, we never ran out of chips & salsa or water, and our food came out in just minutes. When we first arrived we were also told it would be a 15-20 minute wait, but only waited like 5 minutes. Crazy good customer service, especially for a Saturday night.

It was exactly what Yelp 3-stars says: A-OK. Our party of 4 was seated fairly quickly. Our server was nice but spacey. The kitchen messed up one of the orders, but it was replaced pretty quickly (although the order the server brought out was nothing like the actual order). Service was good. The food was okay but nothing to write home about (burritos, taco salad, enchiladas). All in all, a convenient place on the Plaza to come to with friends when the restaurants we wanted to go to were closed because it's Sunday or crowded.

Chuy's is like a quintessential 1950′s diner on Mexican acid. Seriously - eating at this place is a real trip. Hundreds of old-fashioned cameras are glued to the walls of the entryway. Inside, every area of the expansive dining area has a theme. There's a palm tree room. There's a hot rod room, ceiling covered in hubcaps. The bar's theme is chihuahuas. Pictures of them - and framed photographs of staff dogs - hang all over the walls. It's the next best thing to being able to bring your dog inside, I guess. Really, there is so much to take in visually at Chuy's that I didn't have high expectations for the food. But everything was honestly delicious. We tasted a whole platter of different homemade salsas. Surprisingly, even the pico de gallo that comes standard with every bowl of homemade chips had serious heat. The "Perfect Margarita" and Texas Martini were both made strong enough that one was plenty. The chile relleno was among the best I've ever eaten. The breading was crispy, the pepper was spicy and the cheese wasn't greasy. And the veggie enchilada was filled with actual vegetables, like squash and red pepper. If you go to Chuy's, there's no way you will have room for dessert. But if you make space, the Tres Leches cake is a sweet way to go out.

The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa, and the salsa wasn't all that great. I asked for hot and was given some mild and smoky onion/tomato mixture that had an odd flavor. The food was also oddly seasoned and had no spice to it at all. I had hoped the service might redeem the place, but it too was far from acceptable. My server's greeting when she first approached the table was "Are you ready to order," not "hello" or similar as is customary. She checked in with me shortly after my food was delivered, but then I was left on my own. During the meal she walked by my table three times before I finally stopped her to ask for a refill, even after I had moved my empty glass to the edge of the table to make sure she could see it. Post-refill I didn't see her again until she walked by and noticed my credit card out which prompted her to bring my check. Overall, I was not satisfied and will likely not return.

I've been here a couple of times and have had different experiences. Mostly, good service. I think one of my visits was when the location was just opened and the staff was new. The food has been consistent and good. When you walk into the dining area there is a person making fresh flour tortillas. Today I had chicken soft tacos with grilled chicken and the tortillas were very good. I loved the grilled chicken in the taco. The fixin's were not thrilling. For some reason they put lettuce on the chicken and then the pico, cheese and guac are on the place. After I removed the lettuce and added the fixin's. Good tacos. The rice and beans are not necessary. One thing I found is that I prefer the creamy jalapeño sauce over their chip salsa that they bring to the table. Surprise!! I like the tasty fattening dip. Oh, well. It goes good with their fresh corn chips which are refilled at your table when you run low. Price is good and I really liked the fresh grilled chicken in my tacos.

Happy hour specific: Free nacho bar and strong tasty drinks. Can't beat it. My friend and I each had margaritas with a dash of strawberry in them. Now, typically we don't like frozen margaritas (we prefer on the rocks) but these ones were our exceptions. Yum. We each had two and lots of chips with salsa, taco meat, queso, and the options of beans. Well worth your time and a long happy hour too! :)

We Austinites know that Chuy's is a go-to for excellent Tex-Mex. If it's got a good reputation in Austin, than you can bet that it's a quality restaurant! Something is lost in translation at the new Kansas City location. Nevertheless, as far as Mexican goes, Chuy's is as good as it gets in this town. It's my go-to when I am missing my hometown Mexican fare. My husband and I went to Chuy's for happy hour on a Friday night, craving margaritas and endless chips and salsa. We were impressed by the friendliness of our hostess and other servers. The patio view of the fountain made for a relaxing ambiance. Service was prompt and professional. Our waitress, Frann, could not have been more attentive. She was a fabulous server and made the experience all the better, and her recommendation of the Mexican Martini was spot on. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that free queso, ground beef and refried beans were included in happy hour. We ate enough to call it dinner. What to order? Start with a house margarita on the rocks, with salt. My favorite items on the menu are the Chile Rellenos and the Chica Chica Boom Boom chicken enchiladas. In fact, I'd recommend requesting a side of boom boom sauce no matter what you are ordering. It's hot cheese sauce, spicier than queso. My husband always gets the Chuychanga, he always will, and he is never disappointed. The bottom line is that if you want the best Tex Mex in Kansas City, do like the Texans do and go to Chuy's! The chips are fantastic, and I'm convinced that they have the best margaritas in town.

I admit it. I think TexMex food is my favorite type of food. KC's new Chuy's location didn't fail me. It's crazy to think think this bright, fun and Mexi-designed place was Figlios. If you had been to Figlios you won't recognize it at all. It is totally redesigned. Lots of funky Chihuahua pictures! The person who was seating us (just two of us) tried to seat us at a 6 top...really? We pointed out the empty-ish bar and ended up sitting there. The bartender, Molly, was engaging and never left us waiting for refills. She also had plenty of recommendations as well. The menu is full of choices. There should be something for everyone. We were served pico and the creamy jalapeno sauce to dip our complementary chips in. The chips are awesomely crispy. The pico was too watery and really didn't have any flavor. I liked the creamy jalapeno dip. It was something different to have but definitely not spicy. For lunch, I had the steak burrito which was topped with their "hotter" Hatch Green Chili sauce. In my opinion, it wasn't hot but had plenty of flavor. The steak was cooked well and had a lot of flavor too. The charro beans, served on the side, were unexpectedly tasty. I am normally not a fan of refried or even black beans but these were good! I bet they have bacon in them. BTW - for me, the burrito was large enough to take home about 1/2 for later. Except for the person who wasn't sure where to seat us, my lunch at Chuy's was great. The portions were priced well. Yeah, the beer is a bit overpriced but hey it's not a dive bar. I'm glad I wasn't disappointed because I really looked forward to trying Chuy's. I definitely wasn't let down.

We have eaten here several times now and I think this is an excellent place if you have kids! The servers are VERY friendly, the service is great, they give kids some coloring paper and crayons to start with (which keeps them busy until the food arrives), they have a special sippy cup just for kids.....its just a great place and very laid back and kid friendly. The food is really good. The tortilla's are freshly made (you can see them make it in front of the kitchen) and are phenomenal! The chicken (which I have mostly ordered) is very good and the chips/salsa are good too. With the fajita's, the rice and refried beans is pretty good. All in all, reasonably priced place, very fund decoration inside and a nice place every time we have had lunch there during the weekends.

If you're looking for some southwestern enchiladas and Hatch New Mexico green chile, this is it! One of the enchilada plates came with blue corn tortillas and an egg on top. Folks from New Mexico understand. Atmosphere was relaxed, everything's homemade and the price was right.

Chuy's slapped me in the face! Not literally, just figuratively. When driving past the beautiful street and landscpape of the Plaza, looking at the Spanish skyline of towers, domes and tile roof lines through the dancing waters of the Nichols Fountain it happened.....slap....a tacky, brightly lit and oversized sign for Chuy's hit me in the face. Well, i guess that Tex-Mex restaurant that I've been hearing about has arrived! The signage, very much their brand, doesn't fit within the environment they placed it. Highwoods and Chuy's didn't seem to balance the two brands very well, in my opinion. But I'm sure my eyes will unfortunately adjust and accept this oversized eye sore eventually. Of course I still wanted to try the place out and here are my thoughts.... decor- busy, colorful, found object stuffed kind of space (very Chili's 1990's and Benningans before that but within a TexMex style). service- good, nice, overstaffed with a lot of people walking about without much direction. food- really good TexMex food, fresh, flavorful, beans and rice much better than they looked but really disappointing guacamole. It seems like a great place for families or groups of people celebrating something to go to when the Cheesecake Factory is too busy and has overflow! Or if you are looking for good Tex Mex food. Something for everyone.

I miss Chevy's being in KC and if you do too, you'll love this place. The salsa isn't as smokey, but there are so many other dips to have here. We split the fajitas and took enough for another meal for both of us home. We had spectacular service and the view on the east patio can't be beat. We will be back again and again. The beer-ga-ritas are out of this world!

Free nacho bar for happy hour? OMG. Yes, please. Chuy's was a favorite of mine when I went to school at UT - when I heard they came to KC, I was more than ecstatic to give Chuy's KC a whirl. Their menu can be a bit overwhelming; just ask your server what they recommend, or look for "Chuy's Favorites"...or something along those lines and go from there. Don't mind the decor, this place was born in ATX; "Keep Austin Weird" ring a bell? It's eclectic and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the decoration. Martinis are $7.50 during HH and did I mention the free nacho bar? mmMmmMmMmmmm...

My service was quick, friendly and responsive. The hatch green chilli was outstanding. The relleno was prepared with a crunchy breading and I like it. The only miss was the seasoning in the beans and rice and the chips.

Not even worth 1 star. Fiancé and I went back last night, hoping for a better outcome than our first experience. Wrong! We sat in the bar. Big mistake! Huge! Happy Hour had just ended so the bar tenders were cleaning (mopping, restocking, and shutting down margarita machines). Should've seen this as a red flag. Who shuts down their bar at 7pm? Briann, or something, eventually found the time to approach us and ask us for our drink order. She asked if we wanted menus. No, we came here for the iced tea....needless to say her service was awful and she was the only one working 6 tables, one of which was a 12-top that was giving her a hard time about their bill. I don't know if she was stoned or genuinely didn't care but a service dog could have taken better care of us. The best part: waking up at 3:45 this morning to the worst stomach pain I've had. Dine if you dare. Someone in the kitchen has questionable hand washing. Thanks for the food poisoning, jerks.

This review should be considered a PSA to the rest of Kansas City's Tex-Mex loving population. As a huge fan of the style--those plates piled with steaming rice and beans smothered in a flood of gooey cheese--I feel obligated to let everyone know what they are getting into at one of the newer restaurants on the Plaza. I've been to many Tex Mex places around KC--Sabor Y Sol (formerly Sol Azteca), Taqueria Mexico, Rudy's, Mi Ranchito, Jose Peppers, Panzon's, Mi Pueblito, Manny's, etc., so I have some context in place. And Chuy's could certainly hold it's own from a food/service standpoint against any one of those restaurants. I was actually a big fan of their classic Tex-Mex sauce, and the taco I had was good as well. The problem with Chuy's however, is that it fails to deliver on the great economical value that most of the aforementioned restaurants do. The fact that it's on the Plaza should be the first clue that it's going to be a bit pricier for what you get than your standard SW Boulevard Tex Mex fare. The prices aren't astronomical, but it seems like you get less food for the money than you could elsewhere. If it delivered gourmet-quality food, like Frida's out in OP or Port Fonda in Westport, the portion sizes might not be as big a deal. But I finished my enchilada platter and was still hungry, hence my chance to try one of their tacos. The atmosphere is... ah, atmospherey--like you'd expect from a chain Mexican restaurant that fully embraces the idea of flair and personality. In the room we sat, the ceiling was covered with a monstrous piece of art constructed of a mish-mash of car hubcaps and wheel covers. The colors are vibrant and bright, and there is just a ton of loud decor all around. It definitely gives off a party-like vibe, but in a garish sort of way. And as noted, the waitstaff is good--we had an army of servers attending to our rather large group, and at no point did they seem exasperated or overworked. If the price-to-portion ratio were better at Chuy's, it would be a solid 3-star rating. But given the plethora of other options in the KC area, I can't reasonably recommend Chuy's to anyone on the lookout for Tex-Mex.

So...here's my review of the ORIGINAL Chuy's in beautiful Austin, Texas.... yelp.com/biz/chuys-austi… Now, a few things to let everyone in Kansas City know. First, Chuy's is NOT, I repeat, NOT Mexican food. It is TEX-MEX. A wonderful Texas, Mexican fusion that has evolved over time. This is something that is its own culture -- a culture that someone who is not from Texas (or hasn't lived there) can ever hope to fully understand in their heart & soul. Second, if all you have to compare Chuy's to is another KC Mexican restaurant then I'm sorry to say that whatever you think you know about Mexican food is wrong. Lastly, the decor is loud and obnoxious on purpose. All the restaurants are modeled after the original, which I can assure you, evolved organically. A simple google search would tell you that. I understand the decor may not work in most cities but it most definitely works in Austin and why should they change their look just because they decided to expand? If you ask me changing it to anything but would be bad branding. So on to my actual review....food equals awesome as it's always been. The bartenders; however, leave little to be desired. Perhaps they need a little practice but my margaritas are all over the place. Some are perfect, some are too sweet, some are too weak, some are too tart and it's just a risk right now. So that's something they need to work on because I LOVE a good Texas Margarita from Chuy's! I even made a new friend. My server on my second night there just happened to be from my home area, the Rio Grande Valley. AKA South Padre Island (or Mexico) to the rest of the country. ;-)

Service started out quick and friendly. After meal was delivered the server disappeared. After five minutes or so I asked the wandering manager for a water refill. After several more minutes the server showed up and checked on me. A good 15 mins after food delivery. Now I'm wondering where she is to pay the check. I guess I'll have to wander around and find her. Not busy at all, only a few tables with people. Started out good. Fell quick.

First time here and I liked it. Our waiter made the experience so much better. He gave us a sampling of all the sauces, which they typically don't do, but we were first timers. They also make everything from scratch everyday in the kitchen. Love the t-shirts!

  • Todd J.

Great food and drinks- kitchen staff needs work Having lived in Texas for 6 years, I ate at chuys in Dallas and Austin. In KC, the restaurant is a faithful transplant. The food and drinks are fantastic! Only problem was that the kitchen staff can't follow the check order. I had the burrito with boom boom sauce and green chile rice. I got the burrito with the nacho sauce and regular rice. Another party at the restaurant was complaining about a mistake in their order as I sent mine back. You have to do better if you want to stay in business

Go there for happy hour! Amazing drinks (margaritas and martinis) and half price from 4-7! They also have a free nachos bar during happy hour that includes ground beef, cheese, salsa, and refried beans. So good!

  • Brinna B.

Margaritas are to die for. Tres Leches is a must (flan too, when I'm not stuffed). Fajitas are all I need. Salsa is out of this world. Ask for the creamy jalapeno dip (you won't be disappointed). And finally, tortillas, GET THEM. I grew up on the original Chuy's in Austin TX, my parents had their first date there and hence I owe it my existence (no joke). This one is up to par with the ones in TX. I was a bit disappointed in the service, but hey, that has nothing to do with the food which is WORTH IT!

We recently moved to Kansas City and found this amazing mexican chain. Their nachos with salsa and jalapeños creamy sauce is to die for and by far the best I have ever had. They make it fresh and serve hot. Also, we tried boom boom chicken and fried chicken. Both entrées were drooling! Definitely a must try restaurant.

Service was outstanding. Queso was great. Speed was terrible. We actually walked out after 45 min past our order because we hadn't gotten our food. We did see the manager around the 30 min point but nothin changed. I think it wools have been great aside from the unintentional hunger strike.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR THE KANSAS CITY LOCATION ONLY! So, we went to Chuy's with high expectations since we were raised near Austin and have been eating there most of our life. We ordered our go-to dishes and were pleased with the food with a few exceptions. The waitress was good although one dish was never delivered. Two hairs were found in an enchilada plate and the waitress had the manager come over. He offered to provide another plate and comp the specific plate. Even with this offer, he was a little detached from the issue and didn't seem to be very involved in the overall service or experience. If you go during the winter, I recommend asking to sit in the tortilla room. Our room was very cold with people at all of the tables wearing their jackets. We mentioned this to our server and watched her relay it the manager who shrugged and walked away.

I think this is my new favorite mexican restaurant! They start you off with some good tortilla chips and I always get the creamy jalapeno sauce for dipping. I had the steak burrito this time with the hatch chilli sauce. It is their hottest sauce but I dont think it was to hot but just right. The steak in the burrito was really good. My daughter had the chicken nuggets off the kids menu. They are handmade and really tasty and crispy. You would expect this place to be more expensive since its on the plaza but it is about average price for mexican food. I would have given it five stars but our waiter wasn't the best but not horrible.

Delicious food, amazing service like, interesting atmosphere. Imagine a few a 50s diner served Mexican food dishes named after Elvis. Make sure to ask for creamy jalapeño dip with the chips.

This place is gross. The atmosphere is weird and the food is worse than on the border.

We went during a pretty busy time, right before Christmas week. And it was actually not that crowded when we got there about 6:30. They sat us (a group of about 12) right away! The service was good, especially given the size of our group. I ordered the tacos and thought they were ok. I don't think anyone in our group raved about their dish but it was decent. I would definitely go back and check out the happy hour nacho bar!

  • Steve W.

This place serves large portions for a really good price and it's within walking distance of home. What more can I say? Oh, yeah, the food was good, the server was "pitchy" and the view of the park was awsome!

  • Nick M.

This place is wonderful. The service and value are exceptional. I had the steak burrito. It was a slice of heaven with a hot kick. The staff was kind and even allowed my daughter make her own tortilla. Take a framed 5x7 picture of your dog and you receive a free appetizer. The pup will also make the wall. Please eat here and thank me later!

I'm sorry, but what did the plaza think they were doing when they allowed Chuys in there??!!!? I thought it would at least be On The Border-esque, but it's a disappointment. Their salsa is very acidic and their food is just bland - not at all what I expect from Mexican fare. So do yourself a favor - try elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Lauren R.

We had the worst service I have experienced in a very long time. She asked our table's drink order 3 separate times and still came out with a few that were wrong. After ordering our food, half of the table got their food in a timely manner and the other half didn't get any food for another 10 minutes. A long time after finishing our meals, we actually had to pay a different server because ours wouldn't bring the check after 3 requests.

  • Jordan B.

Not impressed. I agree with whoever said chips and salsa was the highlight of the meal. Chips-best I've had in a restaurant. Pico was okay, not much flavor. Jalapeno ranch was different but good. My friend and I both ordered the "chuys brew"....a beerita. For $9 per drink I figured they would be a lottttt bigger. Came out in a tiny cup only half full of Margarita with a baby coronita in it. Any other place I've had one, they come out as a full size Margarita with a full size Corona for cheaper. Way too much beer to margarita ratio.skip drinks. Onto the food,I ordered the Chuychanga with the charro beans and queso instead of a salsa. The tortilla was really good, the filling and chicken were super bland. The queso,I paid extra for it,was a tiny amount and equally as bland. It's also topped with a tiiiiny drizzle of sour cream. Rice and beans were not flavorful at all. My friend ordered the combo #5 and she said it was really bland as well. No spice to anything at the table. Not worth it for the price.

I must admit I wasn't thrilled to have another chain restaurant appearing on the Plaza restaurant scene, but "Welcome Chuy's!" Our daughter goes to college in Fort Worth, Texas (where Chuy's is very popular) and encouraged us to check it out. There was a 40 minute wait, but the bar was a great respite from the cold weather. The Chuy's martini is a must, it's basically a margarita in a Martini shaker served with a martini glass. You get to carry the shaker with your second drink around with you (a bit inconvenient if you don't have a table - how do you eat the chips with full hands?). They have a chips and salsa self serve car (yes it's the trunk of a real car) in the bar, which is a nice touch. The decor does not resemble the old Figlio's in any way. Be prepared for a loud, vibrant, tacky decor. I wasn't offended by it, but not my style either. The menu is huge. Our server was a big help in deciphering the plates. I like my food hot (spicy), but beware here, they really mean it! The green chile sauce is HOT! I had the steak burrito, it was very good. Nice large sliced pieces of steak in the burrito - wow. The serving was huge. I had the black beans instead of refried beans and the spicy rice; good but really spicy! Others enjoyed the enchiladas, tostadas and tacos. Everything was very good and just a hint different/better than your typical chain Mexican restaurant. Our service was a bit slow, but the chips and drinks kept flowing, so all was good!

We went to Chuys last night (a family outing). Service was good they were attentive and gave suggestions, which I appreciate. The food was very basic nothing special or even notable to mention. I was expecting a little flare of something special since it is on the plaza. It was not special it was average. I even ordered a top shelf margarita on the rocks and didn't get excited. I would go back with my kids but won't make it an intentional dining experience.

Outstanding! Just like we remember it from Austin! Be sure to ask for the jalapeno ranch!

Wow. Worst service EVER. My friend and I came down here not too long ago around 6:20 (happy hour is 4-7 I believe) to have a drink and some nachos (they have a free nacho bar during happy hour, which is cool but it tastes like Taco Bell. Not terrible, but you'll regret it an hour later.) Anyway. Tila (I believe that was her name) was bartending, she was sweet and friendly and the only good thing about this visit. Unfortunately she was just getting off her shift. There was another bartender, (dirty blonde hair, short on the sided and longer on top) couldn't tell you his name because I don't think he said a single word to me in the 50 minutes I was at the bar. My friend either. Tila brought us a menu before clocking out as my friend and I were both wanting to order some food from the regular menu. This dude. Did not come back. One. Time. He stayed at the service well the entire time talking to who I'm assuming were friends from outside of work. My friend and I were the only other people at the bar. I tried to make eye contact to signal him over. Never happened. It's like we weren't even there. Finally when we were done and had been sitting with empty drinks (I only had one, would've ordered more) the ONE time he walked by us to grab a glass, I quickly asked for the check. He brought it back, said thanks, and that was that. Most likely not going to come back here again.

Average Tex Mex...located on the edge of the Plaza across from the J.C. Nichols fountain, in what use to be Figlios. The decor is dated and very loud, lots of kids running around made for a not so awesome atmosphere. Remember folks its a chain restaurant with a chain atmosphere...I had the Elvis platter, which for the money was a good portion, however they quickly add in the charges with overpriced drinks and queso...$6.99 for queso...when are Tex Mex restaraunts going to learn...include queso with the purchase of a meal...avoid the margaritas, over priced and they use pre-mix instead of made from scratch...people want good quality margaritas for their hard earned $$$. I don't mind paying for a margarita, but I want to get my $$$ worth. The cutlery was served in sanitized packets and the place was clean. I would like to come back and visit during happy hour to see what the drink specials and atmosphere is like.

We go here a lot, three main reasons- my Husband could eat Mexican every meal, we can walk there, and the freshly made tortillas! It's a nice option on the Plaza because you don't have to make reservations on a Friday night and it's not crazy expensive. Good food and service. I'm sure we'll be back!

I've lived on the Plaza for a year and can't believe I haven't made it in to Chuy's yet! I was very pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. It's a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and the decor is so fresh and ecclectic. We sat on the patio and had a great view of the fountain. Chuy's makes fresh tortillas, fresh salsa, and guacomole. There are several different sauces to choose from to go with your meal. I had the bean and cheese burrito with the creamy jalapeno sauce and it was excellent. We will definitely be going back!

This is by far the best Mexican food that we've ever had!! So fresh! So delicious!!! We have been all over for Mexican food and even in Mexico. This is the best!! Fajeta meat is marinated for 24 hours. Their margaritas are not a mix. Fresh squeezed limes and the best tequila. Their salsa is the freshest and best ever!!! We will be back soon!!!!

I didn't know what to expect when we decided to go to Chuy's. All I heard was that it was a relatively new spot in the Plaza area. I wish I never heard about that place. I order a fajita chicken burrito. The burrito was full of refried beans. I think I had bean burritos that had less beans than this chicken burrito. Chicken was very strange. It left some sort of aftertaste in my mouth. Its like I was eating chicken but it tasted like fish. It was the worst burrito I had in my life. Rice that came with the dish was super dry and tasteless. Chips were not cooked all the way. Half of the chips they brought were rubbery and uneatable. It took the server about 10 minutes to bring us new chips and a drink refill. I am not planning on coming back and would not recommend this place to anybody.

My wife and I were invited to Chuy's by the manager and I really did not know what to expect. From the moment I walked in the door I was met by an enthusiastic greeter and wonderful mixed aromas of fresh tortillas, grilled steak and the sizzling of a fajita platter on its way to a fortunate diner. After being seated, our server brought us the best tortilla chips we have ever had. The were very thin with a hint of salt and had obviously just been fried. We chose the Fajitas and were blown away by the fresh beef and traditional rice and beans. Our experience was 100% positive and we truly look forward to bringing family and friends back to this wonderful restaurant. Bill & Latonia Rock

What can I say...I really like Chuy's! It's a fun place to go and the food is pretty darn good....and reasonably priced. How can you go wrong with a free Happy Hour nacho bar? They have pretty cool margaritas too...I like the Dot Margaritas...frozen strawberry with a dot of lime in he middle. The guacamole is really yummy too. The service can be a little slow at times but I typically don't go when I'm in a hurry so it's not been much of an issue.

Wait was 25 minutes even though lots of open tables. Took 25 minutes to get queso dip because "kitchen was backed up", entrees arrived shortly after, overcharged for an item, food is pricey for the quality and saw employees in the restroom who left without washing their hands. Decor was fun but the personnel's attitude didn't match. Left a lot to be desired, especially after the hype we heard. Not likely to return.

Meh kind of sums it up. Chuy's doesn't have bad food, but it is a far cry from great food. Have Kansas Citians not ventured to a Mexican restaurant since the last Chi Chi's closed? If not, I understand the excitement, but KC has a lot of Mexican restaurants and many that are superior to Chuy's....Tex Mex or other! Don't get me wrong, nothing was bad or horrible I just left thinking everything was "ok" and there was no need to return. It seems like an odd fit for the Country Club Plaza and more like a misplaced suburban hot spot.

This place really surprised me! Now it IS Tex-Mex, so don't expect to get authentic Mexican cuisine. But what they do serve is great service, great decor and great food! I was sad to see Figlio go away. This place is in the space they used to have on the plaza. But I can say for sure that I'll be back to eat here again. Lots of their dishes feature green chiles. And if you're one who loves a good dessert, I highly recommend the flan and the tres leches. Enjoy the very fresh salsa, and try the Queso Compuesto. It's SOOOO good! Let me know what you think!

chuys is a great place to go for a fun unique tex mex experience. The salsa is great along with the warm chips. I tried the Elvis which was a chuys original chicken breast breaded in lays potato chips. Really great service as well. Prices werent bad.. if your not drinking alcohol. I'd definitely go back.overall a great place!

A couple of weeks ago, I went here with a large group of friends (about 25 people). The service was great for the amount of people we had there. This was the third time I had been here and I finally found food on the menu that had flavor. Most items on the menu have sauce covering the entire entree to give it flavor. The chicken is poached and has no flavor. SO, I recommend getting the fajitas because it has a actual flavor and is from what I have experienced the best thing on the menu. Another item that I would recommend is the grand dad margarita, it is a margarita with a beer and a shot on the side. The other margaritas are very plain and usual, so go for the grand dad margarita. I am giving it a two because it took three visits to actually like this place when I typically love Tex Mex food.

Service was quick, although the waiter seemed a little stressed. He didn't card myself or my boyfriend when we ordered margarita's. We were in a group of four people ranging in age from 22-26. Chips and salsa were good, served with a ranch dip. I had a chicken enchilada w/ beans and rice. They were smothered in a green chile sauce, very good. Poritions were HUGE for the price. Very impressed with the decor, and free postcards to grap on the way out!

Not worth wasting your time or money. Gave Chuy's a try for the first time on Wed 10/23. I had very low expectations for a chain that serves mass produced Mexican, and sadly it did not even meet my low expectations. Decor is eclectic to say the least, but a fun change from the stodgy decor of most Plaza restaurants. We were greeted immediately at the door and taken right to a table. The host then recited the rote corporate speech about her two favorite items on the menu, but when she tried to describe them she couldn't and picked up my menu and read the descriptions to me. Sadly, our server recited the exact same rote speech, recommending the exact same 2 items, and he too could not describe them. When I asked what beers they had on tap, the server's response was a blank look and the statement that he did not drink alcohol and did not know.... Amazingly we did get two bottled beers, and they were ice cold and reasonably priced for the plaza. Chips and salsa were the highlight of the meal. Thin fresh chips and a fresh, delicious salsa.. The creamy jalapeño was a nice touch for dipping. We wanted to try the queso, but even though he took the order and it was on our bill, it never made it to our table..... I tried the Southwestern enchilada..sounded good. Instead of a traditional enchilada it was three flat corn tortillas with a pittance of unseasoned chicken layered between them. It was topped with a spicy sauce. The tortillas were gritty and chewy, and the dish flavorless as was the Mexican rice. Charro beans were delicious though and the fried egg on top was perfectly done. My partner ordered the shrimp tacos....3-4 pieces of breaded shrimp that looked like it came off a Morrison's buffet line in each flavorless taco. Flavorless Mexican rice accompanied this meal. If you want some good chips and salsa and ice cold, reasonably priced beer this may be a good place. If you expect even basic service and no more than mediocre food you will be disappointed.

I've been a fan of Chuy's for years, and was thrilled when I heard it was coming to the Plaza. We've been three times, all during off hours (lunch at 2 PM & dinner at 5 PM), so we haven't experienced it during the busy times. Service was outstanding and the food...oh, the food! Fresh flour and corn tortillas. The best queso. Every entree I've had has been great. The kids' menu items are only $4.50 and come with a push pop. During happy hour, there's a free nacho bar (with my beloved queso!). Decor is garish and fun, like all the other locations. This will definitely be our go-to Tex-Mex joint.

We venture down to the plaza once a week and hit up random happy hours. This happy hour wasn't so happy. The first clue should have been we were the only people in the place for happy hour. Yes, they have a free taco bar but it's nothing special. All it did for me is confirm I didn't want to invest in purchasing a meal. The margaritas came in the smallest margarita glass I have ever seen and I am pretty sure there wasn't any alcohol in it either. It tasted like a glass of sweet and sour mix that made me queasy by the end of it. We won't be back . Sorry I don't get the hype.

Grew up on the original back in Texas and the KC location doesn't disappoint. Authentic Tex-Mex with the freshest ingredients. Sauces, tortillas, salsa made from scratch daily and more often than not hourly. Moist, succulent chicken, flavorful ground sirloin and a sauce choice for every palate. Welcome to KC!!

Nice atmosphere. The. Worst. Sangria. Ever. Wanted it to be delicious. Sangria ought to be. Really very awful, makes me think that folks in this area haven't had sangria before.

I think their prices are pretty reasonable. My coworker and I called in an order. It was ready in 15 minutes (like they said) and when I pulled up, they came right out. The food tasted great and we got a reasonable amount for what we paid. I think the only downfall is that their menu is somewhat limited. I would eat there again. Next time I'm going to try eating inside to see what it's like.

Ask for the creamy jalapeño sauce to eat with your chips! Yum!! I'm not a huge fan of mexican food, but since this was Tex-Mex I thought I'd give it a try. I was very pleased to see a restaurant I'm familiar with in Houston finally come to KC! We had the fajitas after asking for a sample of the meat.....I'm super fajita picky. They were pretty good, not the best I've had, but probably the best I've had in KC. I would definitely suggest trying them though. I also had a mojito and it was very good....wanted to have another, but figured I needed to drive home and not spend the afternoon there! The service was very good, but of course I was there on day #2 of opening so they had tons of management there to help out and make sure everyone was taken care of. In fact when I sat down and ordered the creamy jalapeño sauce the waiter was super impressed that I knew about it and even later I had a manager come by and say she heard I was from Austin! Now I did tell the waiter I was well connected when he asked how I knew about the sauce, but I just meant I had friends that love this place in Houston & had text them about what to get....not that I was coming there to secretly spy on the opening!! It did make me laugh though :)

Cool venue, solidly average food, nice servers, overrun by huge tables of families with kids everywhere. We were there for dinner, probably better at lunchtime.

While it may sound blasphemous, Chuy's is probably my favorite Tex-Mex place in KC, beating even the row of solid restaurants on the Boulevard. Although it's maybe a little uncool to rate a chain Tex-Mex place five stars, the food is really good, and the service has been impeccable, at least during lunch on the weekends.

great service here. The dips and sauces are legit. This is Americana Tex-Mex at affordable prices. oh, and solid margs too.

Misplaced Texan finally having decent tex-mex in Kansas City? A dream come true. As a Houston transplant, I was so excited for Chuy's to open up in KC. It doesn't disappoint. Have a beerita and the jalapeño ranch dip to go with your chips and salsa. You'll smile, I promise. Service is great. Pony up to the bar and enjoy yourself.

We came with a pretty large group to celebrate some birthdays. We had to wait a over an hour to be seated since they don't take reservations so we all were hanging out in their bar area. We were all spread out at different tables and had to ask for service after about 20 minutes. After being seated they started taking orders. With such a large group (about 30 people) it took about another hour to get our food. The food was okay. I'd been here one other time before and really liked what I got (the chuychanga), but I wanted to try something new so I ordered the steak burrito. It was freakishly big! It came with a side of rice which was bland and dry. I think they serve different kinds of rice so I may have to look into that next time. The burrito tasted alright - I wouldn't recommend it. The guacamole was also mediocre (I thought it was weird they put lettuce in it). Overall I wouldn't mind coming back. I just wouldn't recommend this place for large groups.

Went with two girlfriends one night for dinner. We sat at a table in the bar and took 10 minutes for someone to greet us. When our server came over, we each ordered a margarita. Since we were sitting in the bar area, we could see our frozen drinks just sitting at the bar waiting for her to come pick them up. It took forever. This whole time waiting for drinks we didnt even have menus to look at for dinner. We had to ask her for menus and silverware. The food was horrible. Enchilada sauce was disgusting. Will def never go back.

HAPPY HOUR IS A TOTAL RIP OFF!! Yes, it comes with a free nacho bar if you buy a drink. BUT- the margaritas have NO ALCOHOL! We had a group of 10 people and everyone said the same thing. They also offer a "shooter" to come with the margarita for an extra 1.50. BUT, instead of putting the shooter in a test tube in the glass or hanging off the cup somehow like most places do, they just put the shooter in and mix it into the drink..... seriously? So, you're just supposed to trust that they added the extra shooter (wink wink). Seriously. A complete rip off and a lie. So what if the nachos are free? You're actually paying for the nachos and a virgin margarita. A huge disappointment. I can't believe this place is on the plaza. In addition, the server wasn't very attentive. I guess she didn't really want to sell us very many of their virgin margaritas. I definitely won't be back.

I had a Chuy's special "enchilada" that was very unappetizing. This was the worse tex-mex I've had in KC. Given all the tasty authentic restaurants, there are much better places to go!

Amazing food, great service, great location and a nice atmosphere. Had the combo fajitas and my wife had the Chicka-Chicka-Boom Boom enchiladas. Both dishes were out of this world good and a nice value for the money. Will be back again soon!!!

We had good food & good service & decent $5 margaritas once my Corona was delivered 10 minutes after I ordered it -- geez, ugh. Yet this Austin-based chain has FALLEN HARD from any level of competent mgmt. Happy Hour should be called the horror hour here on the country club plaza. Off work employees & their kids occupied the best tables & ransacked the free nacho bar, which, I admit, is a free nacho bar and by definition cannot be considered good stuff, and then the staff passed the ecigs freely while openly shouting out their personal dramas like they own the place - and probably do. My point is this: if you operate a free nacho bar during a World Cup game, keep it stocked; if you understand customer service on a basic level, have some sort of managerial presence on the floor. -- not just a string of young dudes with nice arms. Also, I might start bartending there just to be able to drink on the job so brazenly. Well done. It was a sad yet semi-delightful experience (for the people watching) and I won't be returning despite the allure of the fish tacos.

As a native Austinite, I was THRILLED when I learned a Chuy's had opened up in KC. I was a bit nervous that maybe the quality of the food and full experience wouldn't have made it all the way up North from Tejas, but our first time in didn't disappoint. The food was as good as I had remembered and the restaurant has the same fun/funky vibe you would expect from Austin. Make sure if you go you ask for the jalepeno ranch - delish! And anything with tortillas is good since they are made fresh on site.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
